ZAL! Headcannon question for you—it’s a Stelena ask, so here goes…

Say Damon made the big sacrifice at the end—he compelled Stefan, knocked him out and rushed him to safety, whathaveyou, but Damon finally did right by his brother and he died at the end.

I know you’d change the actual storyline because yeah, it’s garbage, but let’s just say everything happens as it did on the show, but with the twist at the end. Damon does instead of Stefan.

What is your headcannon for post-Elena coma? Bonnie wakes her up, and. . . ?

Hmm...

My head canon would be basically be another version of Cristina and Teddy + Henry's death. Where Cristina had to operate on Henry and he died and then in the next episode Teddy makes Cristina go over and over and over and over how she did the procedure and you think it's Teddy punishing her but she's just asking so she can memorize all of Cristina's decisions and can recite the entire surgery by heart and when Cristina apologizes she tells her not to because she did nothing wrong

I wouldn't have Elena make Stefan go over and over everything that happened but Stefan would feel this overwhelming survivor's guilt (because he would) and he thinks Elena hates him for living while Damon is dead because she hasn't been around (I'll get to why in a minute) but then she sets the record straight with a) I could never hate you but also b) since it's supposed to be a continuation of the show, also her giving a version of Stefan's 8x16 speech. Not the "better man" stuff because that was stupid but the Damon "became the man I always knew he could be" stuff, so she's just like, you've given so much of yourself, you've done so much for him and he could do this for you,

because you deserve to live, you deserve to be happy,

and he knew that and he wanted that for you and I can live knowing he was the type of man who could ultimately do this for his brother,

which would keep in line with

Because I'm a Stelena shipper and because I just think this is true, I would also have Elena grapple with guilt of her own and that's why she hadn't been around Stefan for a bit because maybe I would have her do a half-assed attempt to see if she could bring Damon back and then after like the first obstacle to that she's like OK he's gone

and in that moment she realizes that if Stefan had been the one to die, she wouldn't stop until she found a way to bring him back

and that sends her reeling because her sadness about Damon's death is connected to the gratitude of Stefan being alive and maybe Damon even left her a letter that just says, "I forgive you" or something like that because he knew of course he'd know

but shutting Stefan out is just making things worse for Elena so she stops and they connect and they lean on each other and they're there for each other and they understand each other and Caroline is just there like ....

but there would obviously be a lot of angst, a lot of guilt, a lot of pain because they're feelings things, things that didn't go away that they feel like they shouldn't feel.

My vampire diaries ships opinions.

8/10 I actually like stelena they were my favorite ship I was rooting for them since day one of TVD there love was pure and I love the way Stefan cared and protected her and how Elena was there for him, but I'm not saying they had their toxic moments in their relationship. But in my opinion I feel like Stefan didn't really love Elena. I feel like he loved the idea of her Innocence just like him in the past with Katherine he's basically reliving his past, and I feel like he likes the power he has over her Innocence. and I hated how when Stefan would move on from Elena she would just have a heart attack, and I feel like Elena would do anything for Stefan but not like romantically. But when they broke up I still kinda missed them, but I still love this ship even if they had there ups and downs.

6/10 , honestly I'm not a big fan of delena they were toxic and I feel like they had no chemistry when they started dating they always argue, they're relationship was based on lust than love in my opinion, I will admit they had some good qualities in their relationship I liked how Damon brought some confidence in Elena and I like how Elena made choices but not stupid ones, I feel like Elena started falling in love with Damon since season 1, but I also feel like Elena wanted Damon with Stefan qualities and also Elena showed Damon how to be vulnerable but still be strong at the same time and Damon cared more, she did play a big role in Damon's character development.

10/10, honestly I really wish they were a ship and actually got together they would've been so good together, I love how they grew a bond at the end and how Damon learned to appreciate Bonnie more than Elena did, Bonnie was like that physical support for Damon and they had more connection than Damon had with Elena.

9/10, I honestly like steferine, I really think Katherine loved the fuck out of him and the only reason she saved Damon too was so that Stefan the love of her life wouldn't be alone for as many years she needed to run if they gave Katherine a chance I think she would've changed, and I feel the whole beef Stefan had with Katherine was dumb but the beef Damon had with Katherine was deep because she played with his emotions and really did not care about him and faked being in the tomb and she led him on.

0/10 feel like there relationship was dumb and unneeded and I feel like they were better off as friends, I feel like the only reason they're together because they had no one else to be with and they were both single and everyone was just pushing them to be together, and honestly I don't think Stefan really love Caroline and their relationship was boring.

5/10 they would've been my favorite couple in the show but their relationship wasn't the same I don't think there love was really love I think that Tyler just loved that Caroline took care of him and that she was there for him, and Tyler feelings were off when came back from time to time and he would just act like nothing was wrong and just go back to normal instead of trying to rekindle what they already had I feel like after Tyler turned into a hybrid he just really didn't give a fuck about her.

I don't think they were ever in love to be honest, I think Alaric just liked that Caroline carried his children and because his children were obviously what's left from his previous fiance. 0/10.

100/100 They are my top favorite ships on this show and fuck the writers and producers for not letting them be together, and I feel like they just hate the idea of Klaus liking Caroline because he terrorized all of her friends but I honestly think if Klaus didn't try to kill Elena they wouldn't have been like that towards him, sure he may have killed a lot of people but I honestly I think Caroline would've changed him and I don't think Klaus is a terrible person they made it seem, I just feel like he was just alone and I feel like if they were together Caroline would've changed him.

0/10 I thought they were cute at first and I was all for them being together but this ship pissed me off so bad. They started dating and Jeremy cheats on Bonnie with his ex girlfriend who is a ghost, And I felt so bad for Bonnie because she brought Jeremy back from the dead knowing she could die but she loved him.

10/10, they robbed this ship, fuck Stefan. Bonnie should've killed his ass. They were one of my favorite ships on this show and Bonnie was so happy for once in her life and wasn't worried about bullshit Because Enzo brought her that peace and Stefan took all that away I don't care Bonnie should have killed Stefan.

Thoughts on 3x01-3x11, lol I WROTE SO MUCH but this season (especially this half) has so much happening it's kind of impossible to not have a lot of thoughts. This is also where the show starts to embrace being more comedic (like this show is really a dark comedy at it's heart) so that helps. More characters being involved in the supernatural business also helps and up-powering Tyler is great for the plot IMO. I don't think Klaus was as strong of a villian as Katherine was last season (he is so whiny in the first half) but he started to get a little more interesting after he came back, maybe he just needed his hybrid minions to become more interesting. More below, I even broke it up in episode order!

Isn’t Elena’s birthday in June? She said Ric spent half the summer on the couch but that would mean it’s gotta be late July early August, right? (don't know why I'm even trying to make sense of this show's timeline)

I forgot that A Drop in the Ocean was played during a montage and included Forwood sexy time! What a moment. When I first watched the show the Stefan and Elena scene at the end is when I actually started shipping Stelena, it was the first time I really felt like they truly loved each other (song helped too because WHAT A SONG I always sing-a-long). I didn't feel that same buzz this time though, but maybe too much time as passed (and that damn scene in 6x02 saying this was when Elena fell in love with Damon takes a lot away from my old feels). I'm getting such a buzz from Forwood though!

Elena’s getting on my damn nerves with this stupid rescue mission in the woods during a full moon… I don’t understand how Ric and Damon agreed. I fail to see any reason for this nonsense plan.

The moment in the 20s flashbacks when Stefan is looking at Rebekah while Klaus is talking to him and then he turns and looks at Klaus with the biggest heart eyes I have ever seen him use how am I supposed to not ship it? The way they keep using "brother" to hide the extremely heavy gay subtext too I S2G. If this show was made 10 years later on a better network with better writers that subtext would be straight-up text! Think Louis and Lestat on AMC's Interview with the Vampire. In that just world I would have gotten canon Klefaroline dammit!

Caroline is a much better person than I because she's protecting her Dad meanwhile I'm counting down the episodes until he drops dead.

Stefan is really off his game (happens when he's too emotional about something) I cannot believe he got out-manipulated by Rebekah one of the most easily manipulated characters on this show. Pathetic really.

As soon as Beremy started being cute the writers start fucking it up for Bonnie. Makes me madder watching it all over again and how much they never give Bonnie the devoted love interests like Caro and Elena. And I like Jeremy and Anna but I’m so annoyed at this whole storyline in how it’s treating Bonnie I can’t even enjoy it. GFY Julie.

Completely forgot Bill Forbes taught himself how to resist compulsion (IDK why too it's a big plot point oops) and I can't believe none of these idiots bothered to learn how. I like to believe Caroline did and there's a class at the Salvatore Boarding School that teaches it.

The gym buzzer countdown was a nice touch lol.

I like that Rebekah narrowed in on Caroline and was like “you, I want your life” because she sees the vision and the potential! In all seriousness though I wonder if Rebekah having an interest in Caroline is why the writers picked Caroline to be the love interest for Klaus (since it parallels with them and Stefan in the '20s). Things that make me go hmmm.

I'm with Ric and Caroline, every time I see or hear about Damon and Elena I was to scream "stop molesting her!" UGH! He is always invading her personal space and it annoys me! The part where Elena said Damon needed to use his charm to distract Rebekah and Ric said "better luck finding a dagger" and you see Caro in the background laughing was the best.

Kinda happy to get a break from Klaus for a few episodes, he's just so one-dimensional during this time period and frankly annoying.

3x06 made me laugh so much even though I'm not sure I was supposed to laugh as much as I did. I mean Ripper Stefan is never not funny (a jerk but a hilarious jerk) but the scene were Ripper Stefan and 1,000 year old Rebekah are sitting in Ric's HIGH SCHOOL HISTORY CLASS just kills me, like what even is this show. Also laughed at Tyler being a "d-bag" baby hybrid, and you knew he was sired as soon as he didn't want to help lock up Stefan. HA!

Elena dealt with Ripper Stefan for like an hour and was like "absolutely not, Damon you do it" LMFAO which reminded me of the gifset that made everyone mad.

The Defan convo in 3x08 about Stefan always saving Damon for the bajillionith time even without humanity reminds of the convo in Damon’s head in 8x10 a little. This is a good season for them if I remember correctly, obviously I always enjoy them more when their causes of contention aren’t solely about Elena.

Elena making the Beremy breakup about herself, she really does have a gift. Even Bonnie was like really?

Bonnie ignoring Jeremy and giving him a death glare 1000% BB you deserve better you brought his ass back to life and lost tons of witchy power doing so he deserves to feel like shit!

Oh this is the first time Tyler and Caroline get into it about not including each other in schemes. This is kind of always a cause of conflict in their relationship but it’s a good cause of conflict because it makes sense. Tyler has a pack mentality (werewolf/hybrid) whereas Caroline is more independently driven (vampire). Like Caro said so much supernatural boyfriend drama.

Elena stabbing Rebekah in the back with the dagger is one of her best moments (even if I RME at her “I care too much” moment after).

Elena giving Tyler shit for being sired to Klaus (something he has no control over) is pretty funny considering what happens to her next season... insert well-well-well-how-the-turntables.gif.

Stefan’s spin decapitation of one of Klaus’ hybrids in front of him is so extra, I love it.

The symbolism of Elena “crowning” Caroline is not lost on me. Neither is Klaus forcing his way into Caroline’s house through the doorway.

Yeah the Wickery bridge scene was rough, no one knows how to psychologically torture/traumatize people quite like Stefan does.

Lines that made me laugh:

Bonnie: You think you're bored? My dads family is like wet paint that never dries. (oh I’m saving that one!)

Stefan: You’re into Tyler now, huh? That’s kind of fickle. (He's the worst but the comedic timing is *chef's kiss*)

Stefan: We should all listen to Elena, right? I mean, her plans always work out so well, don't they? (I’m saying! Damon agreed too LMFAO)

Starting with our Main Character, Elena Gilbert!

• My NOTP for them: Might be (definitely is) controversial but D*lena. Anyone who follows me and has seen a few of my posts about TVD knows this about me but I just do not ship, do not like it and wish they weren't endgame.

• My BROTP for them: Ooh, okay, either Jeremy or Tyler. The only problem I have is that I ship Tylena, so I should probably choose Jeremy. I genuinely love their dynamic, they make me very happy <3

• My OTP for them: *Deep breath* STELENA. It will always be Stelena. Despite the fact that I totally agree with people who say that both Salvatore brothers were bad for Elena, I can't help but love those two and wish that Elena and Stefan were allowed to be endgame. Early seasons Stelena will always have my heart <3

• My second choice pairing for them: Probably even more controversial but my answer is Matt. There's something so sweet to me about their relationship in the beginning, and how much they genuinely cared about each other, and I just think life would have been a lot better for both of them had they gotten back together before everything went completely wrong, and I just love the idea of them getting a happy human life together.

• My fluffy pairing for them: Oh god, that's hard because I still want to say Stelena or Mattlena but... they've been through some shit. They're both really fluffy though! Okay, no. A genuinely fluffy pairing for Elena would probably be Elejah. I KNOW there's some history and angst stuff but the IDEA is SO FLUFFY. I just know Elijah would worship the ground she walks on, and just AHHHH.

• My angsty pairing for them: I think I've already answered this three times above. However, if we want to go REALLY angst then Beklena is the perfect candidate. I really don't need to say anything else about this. I love them and their angst.

• My favourite poly ship for them: Probably Barolena <3

• My weirdest pairing for them: Probably Elena/Tom Avery considering she literally never met him lmao but I like the idea of Elena with her actual fated doppelganger!

• My intrigued-by pairing for them: I think I want to choose Tylena for this one because I didn't initally ship them but I was super intrigued by the idea of them because of a few posts that came across my dash!

Now for our Queen, Bonnie Bennett! <3

• My NOTP for them: B*nkai. I just can't quite see their dynamic being anything but hatred after everything they went through. Bonnie was too hurt by him for me.

• My BROTP for them: Baroline <3

• My OTP for them: Okay, maybe a tad hypocritical considering my first answer but Bamon. The dynamic between her and Damon was just so interesting and special, and there was a genuine mutual love for the other in both of them that breaks my heart over and over again. Not to mention book!Bamon!

• My second choice pairing for them: Bonenzo <3 I didn't love them at first because I was (and still am) an avid Denzo shipper but they grew on me and now I really appreciate the love between them and how they found a bit of comfort and security in each other. They deserved to be happy together in the end, honestly.

• My fluffy pairing for them: Bonora because witchy lesbians <3

• My angsty pairing for them: God, Bamon and Bonenzo both qualify for this as well lmao but I'd say Bonenzo wins this ones considering Enzo actually died in the end. Their entire relationship is a ball of angst.

• My favourite poly ship for them: Probably super obvious but Bamenzo. I love Bamon, Bonenzo, and Denzo so it just makes sense to combine them! Bonnie has two hands <3

• My weirdest pairing for them: I'd probably say my weirdest pairing for Bonnie is Klonnie but I just think the idea of Klaus and Bonnie is a very interesting one!

• My intrigued-by pairing for them: Stefonnie. I don't absolutely know that I ship them, but I'm intrigued by them. Especially if Stefan got with Bonnie in the beginning of the show instead of Elena. I loved the scene between them during the dinner episode when she said she had witches in her family and Stefan was genuinely curious and made her smile.

And last but certainly not least, my fave little werewolf, Tyler Lockwood <3

• My NOTP for them: Tyler/Vicki is just a no-no. Their dynamic was awful pretty much the entire time and just. No.

Ok so I’m in early season 4. I’ve always really liked Bonnie, but she never gets anything to do and when she does it’s always just “here’s a random guy for you to have a relationship with and that will be your story for a while” (her and Jeremy 🤮) and it’s never interesting (although I wouldn’t mind if they went anywhere at all with her and Damon tbh).

I also very much like Damon, by far the better brother. I really don’t care about anything Elena-related anymore and I think it’s mostly because they’ve played everything out with her several times through already. Also sorry to Nina Dobrev but she’s not a great actor and I’ve kinda had it with the character by now. The less said about Stefan the better. Jeremy and Tyler too.

Now that I’m several seasons in though it really is feeling like they’re stretching for content. The world and season threats got too big and they have no idea how to stop the power creep so they just keep adding stuff that totally breaks established lore. One of the things I love about Caroline is how well she grounded the story (sure she’s a vampire but she’s also still really into regular high school drama and trying to be a normal person still).

Hello!! It's been a long time since I watched the show so I apologise in advance for any inadvertent spoilers or vague plot recall.

Okay so Bonnie has legit been done the dirtiest even though she's one of the coolest characters. I like some of her plot lines where her witch roots means she's actively opposed to the vampires but she still wants to be on Elena's side, the conflict could have been interesting but it's never mined deeper. I hate her and Jeremy too and I agree that she and Damon have some legit chemistry (explored in further seasons, so you do have something to look forward to!)

Yeah Elena is annoying, and I got tired quickly about how everything was always about her. I'm not sure if I prefer Damon over Stefan, but Stelena is defs more boring. I prefer Stefan as a stand alone character or his friendship dynamic with Lexi, Caroline etc (more on this later).

I agree with you that the world building gets bigger than the writers can handle, but I really enjoyed the cure storyline in s4. I'm in the minority, but I really liked how there are all these factions with their own agendas competing to get the cure, and well, i always like it when the Originals have to team up with the Mystic Falls gang.

Talking about the Originals, I think they're the best thing the show has ever done. The casting, the acting, the group dynamics, the lore, the integration with the core tvd group... Perfection. What do you think? Who's your favourite Original?

Yes, Caroline is such a breath of fresh air in the show. I absolutely love how she's one of the few characters who actually LOVES being a vampire. I related to her even before she turned, when she was talking about being second choice "no matter how much I do, its never enough". She's thriving as a vampire as well as retaining her connection to her human side, without any of the angsty brooding that Stefan and all do. One of the reasons I love Klaroline is that Klaus is the ONLY one who recognises this, that she wants a life bigger and better than this. He accepts her as she is, and I just looove how much he changes throughout the course of knowing her, how he consistently puts her first. Sigh. I can go on and on about Klaroline. They have such epic moments, my god. What have been your favourite scenes??

running like water - a Zutara oneshot

AU Post-finale, that time when an assassin crashes Zuko's 18th birthday. Luckily he has a master waterbender by his side. Ft. a badass Katara, Fire Nation political intrigue, and Bloodbending as flirting.

(Realised I'd written this years ago but never posted. Hopefully this gives me some much-needed inspiration while I muddle through my WIPs. Happy reading!)

It’s Zuko’s 18th birthday and he is nowhere to be found. By all accounts, he’d made an appearance at the Royal Ball for a respectable amount of time and then disappeared into thin air. Katara hurries across the halls of the palace, one hand gathering the skirts of her formal gown, her heels clicking on the marble floor. The palace staff haven’t seen him either—he wasn’t in his bedchambers, nor in the library, and she’d even checked under the willow tree next to the turtleduck pond. Katara fumes, her annoyance rising. She’s laboured over his gift for days, the least he could do is not get kidnapped or whatever.

It’s nearing midnight and Katara is about to contemplate hiring the services of Jun and her shirshu when she remembers the one place she hadn’t yet searched: the rooftop. While the rooftop was largely inaccessible, owing to its steep pagoda architecture, there was a flat alcove, hidden to the public, that opened up to the sky. Zuko had shown it to her a while ago when he was making plans for renovation, but it was dirty and in disrepair then, which is why it had slipped her mind.

The entrance to the roof is hidden behind a tapestry, a rather heavy, ugly thing the colour of blood. Katara twitches the tapestry aside and slips behind it. A narrow spiral staircase stands in front of her, illuminated by a hanging dusty lantern. Clutching the wrought iron railings, she begins the dizzying climb. An unexpected sight greets her at the top.

The place has been transformed into a charming rooftop garden. Vines climb the walls and trail down the parapet. Rows of potted herbs are flanked by beds of exotic flowers, the spicy and sweet scents intermingling in interesting ways. Fat beeswax candles stuck on iron stands are placed strategically in recesses, giving the entire garden a low, atmospheric lighting. And lounging on a profusion of cushions, eyes shut, his top knot undone, is Zuko.

“Took you long enough,” he says lazily, cranking one eye open.

“Happy Birthday,” Katara snaps, flinging the wrapped parcel at his stomach with a little too much force.

Zuko straightens immediately. “What is this?”

“Your present, dummy. I’ve been running around everywhere looking for you.”

He frowns. “Didn’t Oromi deliver you the message?”

“What message?” she asks, sinking into a cushion beside him.

“He must have misplaced the note again.” Oromi was the new palace gardener, a country lad, kind-hearted but rather forgetful. He was a magician at his work, though—he could make the stubbornest of saplings sprout and the most exotic flowers bloom under his care, almost like he was bending them. This little rooftop garden seems to be his doing. “I wrote you a message asking you to meet me here. I could not stand all those dreadful festivities.”

“Yes, yes what a bore having people throwing grand parties in your honour.”

A sheepish smile spread across his face. “I appreciate it all, I really do.”

“The royal cooks roasted an entire hippo-ox in your honour.”

“And I savoured every bite of it…but it exhausts me, having to put on this stern, aloof, regal front.” He does look exhausted, there are lines around his eyes that have no business being there. He also looks older; the planes of his face have sharpened and there’s stubble on his face on days he has no official business. “I hate pretending to be someone I’m not, especially on my birthday, when I’d rather spend time with the people I like.” His eyes flicker to her and her stomach flips.

Clearing her throat, Katara gestures to the package lying in his lap. “Open your gift.”

Zuko picks up the gift, examining it from every angle. Katara watches him carefully as his deft fingers unwrap the parcel, untying the strings and peeling off the layers. Nestled in the folds is a stack of small, unassuming-looking, semi-circular cakes.

“It’s a mooncake,” says Katara hurriedly. “A traditional Water Tribe recipe. Probably not a very special gift but my mom used to make them for birthdays-”

Zuko is already digging into the stack. He takes a bite, makes a sound of appreciation, and polishes off the whole cake. “Is there fruit jam inside?!” he asks in delight, mouth full. He offers a cake to her and picks another for himself.

“Yes!” She grins. “Salmonberry jam. I spent days in the palace kitchen, trying to get the thickness of the filling right. It needs to be the right amount of oozy…”

The words die on her tongue. Zuko is licking the jam off his fingers. She puts down her cake, suddenly very flustered.

Zuko looks up as she falls silent. Their eyes meet and the moment holds still. They’ve been dancing around each other for the past two years, longer than that, if she’s honest. Lingering looks, not-so-accidental touches, charged banter…she’s been noticing it more in their interactions lately, whether it’s quiet picnics beside the turtleduck pond or heated fights during state meetings. And now this connection, whatever it may be, is threatening to make itself known in very real ways. Katara has half a mind to brush off the moment with a flippant remark.

It’s Zuko who breaks the silence. “You look beautiful, by the way,” he comments. She’s wearing a traditional Fire Nation gown, richly embroidered in threads of red and gold, but her hair—

“Your hair is braided Water Tribe style. It looks good on you.”

She smiles, fighting off a blush. “Thank you.”

Longing - a Picturesque prequel (Klaroline fanfiction)

Hellooo, the Picturesque prequel from Klaus's POV is finally here!

Longing

Summary: Klaus likes his life, mostly. He has his own flat in New York City, a great group of friends, a budding career as an artist, but as he's navigating all the ups and downs the city throws at him, he realises that he's longing for something more. Or rather, someone.

[The long-awaited prequel to Picturesque! As promised, this is from Klaus's POV and tells the story of how in the process of figuring out who he wants to be, he's more and more drawn towards Caroline. Too bad she doesn't think of him as anything other than a friend...]

I cannot believe how long this took! Writing from Klaus's POV was challenging, and I felt like my writing style had changed in the years since I wrote Picturesque. Anyway, here's my labour of love, hope you like it! This will be a two-parter, the second chapter will be up next week. To new readers, this is a prequel to Picturesque so PLEASE read that fic before this! You'll enjoy this fic better *after* reading Picturesque. While chronologically/plot-wise Longing comes first, I feel like from the progression of my writing style and the work I've put in the characterisations, it makes more sense to read Longing after Picturesque. Also, if you're a familiar reader, I'd still suggest you read Picturesque, just to brush up (I've made some slight edits for continuity, especially in the last chapter)

Stefan's POV

"Bhhh." Elena puckered her lips together, looking at the sky, I noticed she sat laid out messy, on the bleachers."I used to know every constellation, how did I forget them all?" I walked up the bleachers putting my hands on my hips.

"Your drunk, you need to go home," I said firmly as Elena looked over at me laying her hand loosely on the bleacher, reaching out to me. "Fine!" Elena said in defeat. She then said, "Let, me find my car." she stood up unbalanced walking, towards the railing she then bumped into it making a clanging noise it rang for a few seconds.

"Your joking right?" I said, watching Elena carefully. "Uh, oh it's the fun police," Elena said putting her hands up in defense.

She then continued to say, "I thought that ripper Stefan was supposed to be the life of the party?" 

I scoffed when she said this. "Yeah, all right I'm driving you home come on," I said, motioning for Elena to follow as I started to walk down the bleachers. I realized she climbed to the other side of the railing I turned around and looked at her.

"What are you 5, get down!" I said trying to convince her to get down.

Elena smiled drunkenly, "Why? Are you afraid I'm going to fall?" Elena lets go for a second and grab onto the railing quickly. My heart skipped a beat as I watched her almost fall.

"Oooh, that was close. Klaus would not be happy with you." Elena said tipsily, as she pointed towards me.  Something in me twitched almost aching and worrying. 

"Your hilarious!" Stefan said, I raising my voice trying to get her to attention. "Look, Stefan no hands." Elena lets go for a second but quickly grabs the railing. I tilts his head watching Elena carefully. Something in me snaps knowing what's about to happen. She then lets go again, she leans back and falls.

"AHHHH." She screamed, she reaches her hand out, I quickly run with my diligent speed and catch her. "Uhh." She thuds into my arms. Before she knew it she was safe, on the ground in my arms. Her hands were wrapped steadily on my back, she open her eyes slowly and looks up at me. I slowly helped her up into a standing position. "I knew you'd catch me." She breathes harshly, for a second watching me.

I looks into her chocolate brown eyes and she looks into my forest green eyes "Please, turn it on I know there is still good in you with or without humanity. Why? Because that's who you are in your heart in soul Stefan, your a good person who cares, who just lost their way long the road." Elena said, cupping Stefan's face "Please." Elena whispered softly.

"I've hurt so many people, innocents," I said. "But that was Klaus, he manipulated you into wanting the blood and he compelled you." Elena said softly. "How am suppose to come back from this?" I ask, raising my brow and looking strait into her eyes. "We'll, get through this together like we always have." She said unclutching her hands and intertwining her hands into mine. "Well, do it together." She said softly. 

"I said I know you'd catch me, that wasn't Klaus that was you wanting to help me." Elena said. "I know there is still humanity left and that is why I need to do this. To prove to you that there is good, love, compassion."

Do wha..." I ask but was interrupted by a soft and tender kiss. I wrapped my hands around her waist and she wrapped her hands around my neck. She pulled away after a minute, she looked strait into my green eyes and smiled she then said "That, you would have pulled away if you had no compassion and humanity left. I smiled as I felt like a curse had been broken just like in a fairy tale. I smirked and then said "So, your not drunk?" Elena laughs, and hits me playfully on the shoulder. I wrap her into a bear hug and spins her around. "Ahhhh." Elena squeals and then become a giggly mess.

Alaric came running he was side tracked by some of the drunk teens. He raised the the vervain dart to only realize Stefan was tickling Elena and laughing with her. "So, you turned his humanity back on?" Elena and Stefan looked over at him and smiled and both replied "YES!" Alaric smiled and walked back towards the party.

"Let's head home we have some catching up to do and we need to tell everyone what happened." "Definitely." Elena said. "But first I would love a kiss from my prince charming." Elena said leaning in to kiss Stefan. "Ah, Yes my princess." Stefan said with a smile and leaned in to a Sweet tender kiss.

I know you don't love Stelena---which I totally get, because even though they're an all time OTP of mine, I can also see why some don't ship them, especially after all the delena stuff in later seasons! Anyway, I was wondering if even someone relatively 'meh' on Stelena like you feels that Stelena has more chemistry and natural romantic connection than Steroline? I'm so curious! I can't trust my own judgment on this because I have such a pro-Stelena bias :)

Oh, definitely! Stefan and Elena had wonderful chemistry. It was palpable. You could feel the magnetism between them. It was so natural and seamless and passionate, yet also soulful. They were kindred in a way, you know what I mean? They fit. They clicked straight away and seemed to understand each other without need of words to fill in the space all the time. I always loved that about them.

Their soulful bond and star-crossedness always reminded me of Bangel a little. Which—💔💔💔

Stefan and Caroline had good chemistry as well. Though, it was their friendly “I’ve got your back” rapport and respect for one another that grew over time that I found to be engaging, not so much their romantic connection/tension, which was lacking for me on the whole. Or, at least it was in the later seasons. Their romance always came across stilted, awkward, and imbalanced to me as it played out and I still don’t understand why haha. I am a huge friends-to-lovers trope gal (as well as a multi-shipper), so they should’ve ticked a bunch of my boxes but they didn’t. Still breaks my heart a little to know I couldn’t get behind them as a ship, because I tried so harddd. 😭

Do you have any advice on writing scenes that are showing not telling?

Aww thanks, it's not for everybody because I don't say things have to be one way, I don't give rules to follow, I just provide as many examples of different ways to do things as possible and some students wanted a, this is what you have to do to get a good story but those profs always annoyed me in uni, lmao.

In terms of showing vs telling it's basically description vs explanation soooooooooooo ok, i'm just going to assume you're a tvd fan/stelena shipper so think of stelena vs delena so when you show something you would describe a stelena scene to prove a point to your reader so it would be describing let's say the compulsion scene

where it would be like:

The clock was ticking down and it was getting harder and harder for Stefan to resist what he had been told to do. His body was urging him forward and he could feel his fangs start to descend, everything in him pushing him to feed from her -- everything except his heart. He could not hurt her. He would not. Elena watched him struggle with himself and could sense the words he'd uttered before were true: his love for her kept his humanity intact and so she whispered, "Stefan. I love you."

The clocked stopped. Buzzer sounded. And then whoosh! Stefan flew across the gym. Elena screamed. But he did not hurt her. Like she knew he wouldn't.

"Elena run! Go!"

She listened. Elena charged down the hallway and Stefan tried to give her as much of a head start as he could, slamming himself into lockers, trying to control the hold Klaus' compulsion had on him.

so that's showing their bond through description and action.

instead of describing the action of the compulsion scene to prove that love it would just be summarizing it or explaining it:

Oh my gosh, I LOVE what you pointed out about how Elena's martyrdom was not just an indicator of how wonderful she is but actually a sign of her darkness - how part of her no longer valued her life as highly, secretly wanted it to be over and felt like she should have died when her parents did. You're right that she's a more layered, cerebral and interesting character than she's given credit for. She feels like she has to be the perfect girl but does have real issues underneath. I always felt like she's one of the few TV protagonists I could have deep and really interesting conversations with. I would love to know whether you believe that she was genuinely in love with both Stefan and Damon at various points? I'm a Stelena shipper (sorry---please don't hate me!) but I do believe her love for both of them was very real. I would also love to hear your thoughts on Bonnie---other than being like an Elena Light, I don't get what her personality was supposed to be at all, especially because she was SO different in the first few episodes of the series!

I don't mind Stelena at all, so it's no problem haha.

Is it really possible to be in love with two people at the same time? Honestly, I don't know much about love. Society has drilled into us that we can't truly be in love with multiple people, but that's surely not true, considering we can love multiple people at once, like friends and family. I think being in love with more than one person must take a lot out of you, because of how intense romantic love and relationships can be, but, in Elena's case, she had a big heart and she fell for Damon when he was there for her and Stefan wasn't. When Stefan left at the end of season 2, Elena was still in love with, and faithful to, Stefan, but I think that, like she said, Damon "snuck up" on her; he was her rock throughout that whole Klaus period and his obvious love for her, as well as their mutual attraction, made her fall for him. But I don't think she ever stopped loving Stefan, especially after her feelings for Stefan were "rekindled" by his return to normal. It's very likely she loved both of them in different ways for most of season 3, but, imo she loved Stefan more than Damon, and I'm not sure she fell for Damon all the way in that season. In season 4, though, again Damon offered her something Stefan couldn't - freedom, acceptance, attention, because Stefan had become so obsessed with finding Elena a cure - and Elena and Stefan's relationship which never truly recovered from the blow delt by Klaus's interference, just couldn't sustain itself anymore. Elena and Stefan became too distant and her connection with Damon too strong. Truthfully, Elena had felt an attraction to Damon even in season 2, and the more distant she felt from Stefan and the closest she became to Damon, the harder it became for her to repress or ignore those feelings of attraction, which were not just sexual, but on a romantic and intelectual level too.

After Elena chose Damon, she laid her relationship with Stefan to rest. She had truly given it her all and it hadn't worked out; she loved only Damon after that. If she was ever in love with both of them at once, it was in late season 3 - very early season 4. I think in late season 3 her connection with Damon faltered because of Stefan's refocus on her, yet, because of Damon, she couldn't truly commit to Stefan. She then chose Stefan in the season 3 finale, but her world changed right after that, and Stefan quickly stopped making Elena feel loved. An important character trait of Elena's is that she didn't like looking back. She loved Stefan and stayed true to him in season 3 because she was loyal and they had never truly broken up but she finally ended things when she felt she couldn't move forward with him. She gave it one last try - it didn't work, she moved on and didn't look back, imo.

I don't know why Bonnie is called Elena Light? I've heard that before, but Elena wasn't a dark person, so Bonnie wasn't the light to Elena's dark? Is it because in the beginning Elena was depressed and Bonnie was so bright?

I don't think Bonnie's personality changed after the first episodes. She only became less trusting, a bit hardened, and closed-off, after her powers began to manifest themselves and she got caught up in vampire business. But Bonnie was always loyal and protective of her friends, kind, selfless, brave, caring, assertive, moral, stubborn, careful, and suspicious of vampires - which, truth be told, also caused her to, at times, distance herself from her closest friends. In the first episode of the series, when she touched Stefan and got a bad feeling, she immediately became cautious of him and protective of Elena. It was only after Stefan saved Vicky that she warmed up to him again. Also, in the first episode, she looked after Caroline, who was drunk and had been rejected by Stefan, and coaxed Elena out of her shell. That was pretty normal Bonnie behavior. I think her personality was very consistent. She just became a bit bitter and harsher, but 99% of the time that was only to vampires and other supernatural beings, who were all murderers. Bonnie was a witch, so it was her duty to protect humans, even if she helped her non-humans friends out a lot. Her priority was always to help others, never herself...

If anything, Bonnie became an Elena Dark. Morally, she didn't lose her morals like vampire Elena kind of did - though her choice to protect people like Damon didn't reflect well on her principles - but while Elena was protected by everyone Bonnie did the protection and was sacrificed for everyone else's well-being - so she became a tad darker than Elena in many ways, especially season 6 Elena.

Stefan knew that he very well couldn’t insist that Elena not run headlong into dangerous situations when he did the same thing. Werewolves were deadly to vampires which meant ,even if he was strong and capable, one bite could send him into a drug induced journey to death. His girlfriend had clearly been worried as the look of betrayal in those honey brown eyes and the small tracks of tears. How was he supposed to leave his brother in the hands of angry wolves? Damon was a pain in the ass, but he loved him more than anything on this earth. It was his fault that he had become a monster as well. With Elena, he felt human in a way that meant he was loveable to someone who didn’t share his DNA with the knowledge of the ripper rampage he was added. Maybe in the beginning he had liked the idea of this girl because she was Katherine’s doppleganger, but he had never known a love like this. He was a sword forged for the hand of this warrior woman. Guilt had furrowed his eyebrows though the adoration he felt for her leaked from his bright orbs. Leaning forward, the Salvatore vampire pressed a gentle kiss to the underside of the woman he loves doe eyes were the salty remnants of tears tasted on his lips. Stefan had never been impulsive though his love would always move him over his self preservation. “Darling, I am okay. We are all okay. I am so sorry for being so unfair and scaring you. I guess I am used to being the big strong vampire that I don’t take the time to think of the dangers I still hold or how it would feel to the most beautiful, intelligent human that I have ever laid his eyes on.” The larger hand moved to take her waist and forcefully though elegantly pulled her to his side. “I love you. Can I make it up to you? I promise that I will do my best to make decisions as a team. Not just the whole scooby supernatural gang, as my life partner.” With that he found her mouth to claim with his own again in a sweet though passionate kiss. The blunt edge of his teeth making a request for their tongues to tangle in the gates of their mouth.He would always be a besotted suitor to this queen giving her everything she wanted that was in his power. Stefan could be called many things over the years, but liar wasn’t one of them. Besides, the gilbert girl had been the only one to be allowed such entrance to his very soul. His heart was only ever hers to break. A smile pulled against his lips as they parted to claim eachother’s eyes in intensity. While the vampire was a picture of contrision, his manicured eyebrow couldn’t help dancing suggestively.

Thoughts on 4x01 - 4x12 again I wrote a novel. This is probably my least favorite rewatch half since S1 and it's because the stuff I liked I really liked and the stuff I didn't like I really didn't like. It kind of ebbed and flowed for me, I didn't like the first two episodes (they felt weird I don't know how to describe it) but then I liked Connor and the hunters mythology. I liked the Klefan team-up and the hybrid sire bond breaking with Tyler (I liked his plot the most of anyone) and obviously I liked that the show remembered Steroline existed and all the friendship and sober sponsor goodness. But I didn't like when the hunters mark turned to the cure and Silas because I honestly lost the plot on the convolution of that. I loathe LOATHE the sire bond stuff and DE in general and while 4x09 was a highlight the next three brought it back to not enjoying myself as much (I blame the lack of Caroline).

I don’t really see how the animal diet wouldn’t cause more duress since you have to kill an animal, as opposed to just drinking from a blood bag? IDK Stefan you need to maybe reassess your vampire training manual because this doesn’t seem to be a diet anyone chooses unless they have drinking problem. Plus the dramatics over Elena feeding and possibly killing someone come on man, there’s like six people watching her I think you can all manage if you do it in shifts.

Damn I forgot how hot Conner is *bites fist* and I love that he shots first questions later! Someone who gets shit done and actually shook the table around here!

Tyler is the only one around here actually willing to put himself in danger to cause the least amount of casualties. A motherfucking G!

These past few episodes have been so overly emotional and dramatic it’s a bit much for me. I think it’s because the show is making us “feel” Elena’s transition like we’re doing it along with her, but please show I don’t ever want to be forced to relate to Elena.

Klaus getting so excited to try and breakup a high school couple is both sad and hilarious. Like he is glowing at the thought!

The motorcycle scene is so bad!

I know I get more of a buzz from this than most but the Steroline scene is really just a nice scene. There is so much self righteousness and postering going around in these episodes and finally someone is like “I need help will you help me” “of course” and it is so nice! Stefan gives her these heart eyes when she says she's good at it because of him that just make me melt. I don't even think it's about the boost to his ego, I think he just really needed to hear that he did something right. This is also such a huge moment in relation to Stefan because it's the first time he ASKED for help with his blood addiction. With Lexi, Damon even Elena they told him they'd help him and they all did a bit but Caroline was the first person he sought out help from. And he trusted her when she said he could come to her whenever he wanted and she wouldn't let him lose control. Because Caroline is a genius at self-control. I always liked how we got the line "you don't have to pretend with me" from Stefan to Caroline in 2x13 and now you see how Stefan starts to learn he doesn't have to pretend with Caroline either.

Even the voiceover recap is dramatic!!

Stefan’s “we’re not in a fight this is our resting phase get over yourself” comment was hilarious.

How does Caroline not know how hard it is Elena hmm not like she woke up all alone having no idea what was happening to her since NO ONE told her about the supernatural world before that! The only possible information she had was visions of Damon abusing her, raping her and feeding on her! Not like she didn't have to work her ass off to prove to EVERYONE she could do it (only Stefan had some faith in). Then after that she was tortured by her own father despite being "too good at it". Yep no idea how hard it is.

Klaus sitting at the bar with a glass of wine smirking at Rebekah’s failures should not be as funny as it is but I am DYING!

Klaus’ smile when Stefan figured out his motive, what a sap! At least he's using new methods to get his (boy)friend back now. Instead of ruining his life he's like "wanna manipulate people and be shady" the best way to Stefan's heart.

While I do enjoy the Bonnie/Shane storyline (mostly) I am immensely tired at how often Bonnie loses her powers. This never seemed to happened to the witches on TO... and of course we all know why (racism).

Everything about Damon in this episode disgusts me. When he basically described S1!Caroline as the perfect "feeding victim" I wanted to reach through the screen and stake him. Can't even enjoy Bamon crumbs during this time period.

Stefan manipulated Rebekah into giving up all the information after one conversation… I just cannot. If Rebekah wasn’t mostly indestructible there’s no way she’d have lived this long, she will give all her secrets away to the first person who shows her a modicum of warmth.

Elena is so out of the loop and I love it (because I am a HATER)

I'm glad Bonnie got to just vibe with Shane instead of being forced to help this hostage situation, good for her.

The Hunter plot is good, I do like how they have their own symbols and the tattoo only other hunters can see. It gets a bit too complicated when Silas and the cure get introduced but it was good while it was just about the hunters.

The cracks in Forwood are starting :( because Tyler is right, Chris was his friend and more importantly Tyler wants to keep everyone safe and values everyone's life not just those he believes are important. But Caroline doesn't believe that, she'll try to save everyone and she'll at least feel bad but she will always save her friends first. There's also the fact that she's already started picking Stefan's side over Tyler's which will come to a head soon...

Caroline’s grin at tricking Klaus LMFAO

They would make Elena be haunted by her first kill after telling me how SHE JUST CARES TOO MUCH and her compassion is her greatest weakness the last five episodes. I hate it here.

Jeremy being so eager to stake Damon LMFAO!! I mean can you blame him? You know how many problems would have been fixed if they killed his ass.

They make it the Stelena break-up all about Elena's feelings for Damon which... is not the full problem here. If anything the problem is Elena's feelings for Damon mean her and Stefan aren't in sync like they were in S2. Because when SE works it's when Stefan can be the ideal boyfriend who respects Elena's choices and always protects her (at the expense of others if needed) and Elena can uplift that. She'll even remind people of it, like Elijah in 2x19 or when she would remind Damon, like when she invited Stefan into the boarding house first and embarrassed Damon on the condition he follow her rules (and Stefan smiles smugly). I mentioned it in my 2x12-22 recap thoughts how Elena wants to have a relationship with both brothers, but it only works if Elena isn't in love with Damon. Because then the roles don't work anymore, and Stefan has more self respect than Damon and quite frankly has zero interest being a side piece. Because we KNOW Damon will be in love with Elena no matter what like he was in love with Katherine for 145 years (until he transferred that over to Elena) but Stefan can move on (and does fight me).

When Caroline is talking to Stefan about her disgust at Delena and goes “and you’re you” the way Candice says it and her body language is PERFECTION! You see that small part that feels a tingle for Stefan pop out for a second after she buried it when they became friends in S2 (it stays there until S5 IMO).

Klaus is such a dick lol, he knows exactly what’s going on (that Elena is sired to Damon) and he just gives Caroline another riddle.

Everything with Damon and Elena this episode (most episodes lbr) makes me ill so I'm just going to ignore it :)

The Klaus and Caroline scenes at Miss Mystic Falls are kinda cute, I liked when he was teasing her with the application lol. The hummingbird analogy was kind of like "what TF is he talking about" though. Also why didn't we get Caroline saying if she'd take the cure or not, feels like they purposely wanted to keep that lingering.

I do like how much shadiness is going on this season, like not really knowing Hayley's motives and now we know she's working with Shane. Stefan and Klaus' team-up and how that brought a lot of hostility to the trio and also makes Caroline a more primetime player.

Another precious moment! When Caroline is going on her pro-Stelena rant and she’s like “her and Damon” *shakes in disgust like her whole body icks over the idea* (samsies). Then Stefan does this d’aw look and shy smile trying not to laugh because Caroline is Caroline and just BEING HER makes him forget how crappy his life is.

Now one of my favorite eras begins aka "Stefan and Caroline figure everything out by the fireplace (and fall in love)" era.

Stefan is being more sanctimonious than usual and if it were any other character than Damon I’d be like "let's not throw stones from glass houses..." But since he’s Damon and he still doesn’t do the right thing after all this, I'll allow it.

The show tried to push the side bond as feelings but like that’s not why the sire bond is bad. It’s the lack of consent because you are forced to act based on what you’re told by one person and it prohibits free will. THAT'S THE PROBLEM! No one thinks Elena didn't have feelings for Damon before she turned we fucking know this.

The scene with Caroline, Elena and Bonnie drinking and partying in the Salvatore living room is very cute and funny and I love it and it sucks that every other interaction between them this episodes fills me with hate. The part where Caroline says "It's not your fault, Elena. Damon took advantage of you!" you really hear the fear in her voice.

Elena is a bit too intrigued watching the hybrids bow to Tyler...

I thought Stefan was going to say "because he's my brother" when Caroline asked how he could trust Damon and how utterly annoyed it was going to make me, his excuse was a least a little better than that. He was wrong of course, because Stefan never learns when it comes to Damon.

The first scene of this episode is… why? They just established the lack of consent with the sire bond and Damon and Elena are laying on top of a bed together.

Caroline looks ETHERAL (and yes the very petty part of me loves that she gets to look stunning while Elena looks dull and miserable even her hair doesn't pop like it used to *evil grin*)

The way Tyler says "you told HIM" AJSHBCFJSFHJ god I love this scene, and the way Stefan moves in front of Caroline to protect her from HER BOYFRIEND, god I love it. I love when two characters just straight-up do not like each other based on personalities and not plot contrivance. Because Tyler and Stefan have never gotten along and they would never speak to each other if they could help it but they have to, because they both care about Caroline. That's how you do a triangle. Love how Tyler threw in Stefan's face that he already got one of the hybrids killed so he doesn't owe him anything. Sterowood you deserved more.

The Klefaroline stuff is also so great, the little art critic remarks and Klaus saying "you've been dodgy and Caroline's been lovely which I've come to recognize as a tool of distraction" (took him long enough lol). I do really enjoy the Klefan conversation about loneliness (which was what Caroline said about the snowflake) and memorializing their dead. Then the remorse that Stefan and Caroline feel at leading Klaus to slaughter and then cutting to... Klaus brutally murdering 12 hybrids to a Christmas carol. This show!

Watching Tyler find all the dead hybrids... damn I just feel so awful for Tyler. He was just trying to help them and never really wanted to be the alpha and now he has to feel immense guilt over them trusting him.

Stefan is such a drama queen this episode. Look the sire bond is gross and the way Damon is using it to his advantage is gross but like... Stefan is mad at Elena having feelings for Damon because of the sire bond but HE KNEW SHE DID BEFORE HE LET HER DROWN! And again maybe you shouldn't have been so comfortable with your brother being in love with your girlfriend Stefan because it "proved their was a part of him that was human" or whatever bullshit he used to say.

Sorry not sorry but I’m ready for the Original family to leave for their spin-off. I don’t care enough to even understand their issues now it’s so zzzzzzz, Klaus is the only one who mildly entertains me and that’s only when he’s around Stefan, Caroline or Tyler.

I know he's just trying to aggravate Damon but Klaus saying "Stefan would never dream of hurting Elena" um sir we all know that is not true. You were on the phone with him when he threatened to turn her into a vampire and drive her off a bridge! So much so that you actually stood down!

For someone who wants to be human so bad Rebekah is obsessed with Ripper Stefan and I don't get it! Do you know what Ripper Stefan does to humans? He eats them! And not in the sexy way! I'm also forever over these vampires say they want to be human so badly when they clearly love their vampire powers.

Two episodes in a row with no Caroline WTF I don’t deserve this!

I know Bonnie’s Dad literally appeared out of nowhere but he’s not wrong in basically everything he’s been saying. She can’t really protect the town like she says when she’s working in vampires' interest. And thank god someone put vervain in the water supply!

It’s kind of sad to watch Bonnie’s parents finally give a shit about her and started telling her to stop putting herself in danger for Elena. Because they are completely right with everything they’re saying and Bonnie just won’t listen now.

The Stebekah 80s “date” does a good job of showing the duality of Stefan. I think he’s being completely genuine in having fun with Rebekah and that it reminded him of his time with Lexi who always made him happy. But he’s also doing this to distract her while Elena and Jeremy try to kill her brother. And I like that he doesn’t have Matt dagger her because she was honest with him and he didn’t want to betray her after she did. But then he manipulates her into being back on his side to get the cure and to not be mad Jeremy and Elena killed Kol. Oh when he’s good he's good.

There’s so many mentions of burning Elena’s house down lol. They couldn’t wait to torch this sucker.

The Klonnie scene where Klaus is like "witch" and she gives him a death glare... they could have been a fire hateship man!

Bonnie’s face was like oooooo watching the triangle drama lol (samsies).

Lines that made me laugh:

Klaus: For future reference, one voicemail is just as effective as nine (this was an ongoing theme with Klefan and it was hilarious)

I am so much better after having received this request. You are truly after my heart, this is the au that I LIVE for. So, I only did the drabble, no moodboard but if you DO want a moodboard for this au, feel free to just ask and I will be more than happy to make one because, again, this au is EVERYTHING to me. And now, for some domestic Forwood with some mentions of Stelena and Bamon:

“Are you absolutely sure you want to do this?” Tyler asks sceptically. He sets the plate down on the table and then rests his hands on the back of the chair in front of him. “Don’t you think it’ll be… weird?”

Caroline breathes out a laugh, saying, “No,” then stops, whips around, and stares at him with wide-eyed alarm and a plate still in her hand. “Why? Do you think it’ll be weird? Oh god, it’s weird, isn’t it? This is insane! What was I thinking?”

Like a switch flipped, she dove right into the deepest end of the pool and sunk right to the bottom. Tyler’s gotten used to it over the years, but truth be told, he hasn’t quite adjusted to just how heightened she’s been since having the twins. 

“No, Care, that’s not what I said,” Tyler quickly soothes, moving over to stand in front of her. He reaches out and gently strokes her forearms. “You’re not insane. I was just thinking about you. You know, what with everything that’s gone down with Stefan and… with Damon. Are you going to be okay in a room with both of them?”

She looks him dead in the eyes like a startled little chipmunk for a good second or two. Then, with a sigh, she deflates like someone’s popped open the little seal on the back of her neck and let out all of the air that was filling her to bursting point. 

To his surprise, she flings her arms around his neck and hugs him tightly. The forks in her hand jab a little uncomfortably into his right shoulderblade but he chooses to ignore it for the moment. He instead chuckles lightly into her hair as she takes a deep breath into his shoulder. 

“Hey, you okay?” he asks softly, stroking a hand up and down her back. He wonders if he should go and get the twins for her to focus her attention on; it calms her emotions right down to have them in her sights and be looking after them. 

“I just…” She pulls back to look at him with startlingly crystal-clear eyes, full of clarity and sincerity as she holds him at arms-length and smiles at him like he’s the only other person in the world. “God. I just love you so much. You know that, don’t you?” 

“Yeah, of course I do,” Tyler says with a twinge in his chest. He knows it, and he hears it often enough that it shouldn’t still make him feel like the romantic interest in a cheesy teen movie, but here he is anyway. “And I love you, Care.” 

Her smile stretches until her eyes crinkle like a joyful kitten, then she continues, “And I love that you care so much about me, and how I feel, if I’m okay. I really do. I promise you that I am going to be okay tonight. It’s all in the past now, and we are moving forward with our new life. We have the twins, we have our home. We have each other, and I could not be happier about that.” 

Tyler’s cheeks positively ache from trying to bite back the full extent of his smile. “Yeah?” 

“Yes, you dummy! This is everything I’ve always wanted.” She rolls her eyes. “I know it may have seemed like I wasn’t really one for the domestic, settling down… white picket fence life when we were at school, but… deep down, I wanted it. I hoped that I could have it, that I could actually do it and be good at it. Being a mother and… a partner.” 

There’s some emphasis on the last word, Tyler notices. He’s not stupid. But he’ll let her continue to think he is for another hour or so, just until they have the appropriate audience and dessert is about to be served with a particular piece of silver included. 

“You are amazing,” Tyler tells her fiercely, sliding his hands up the side of her neck. She leans into his touch, her bottom lip pushing out a little. “And, I totally believe you when you say that you’re all good about this dinner party idea. But be totally honest with me: how do you actually feel it?”

“Oh, I’m a nervous wreck,” Caroline says without missing a beat, confirming what he’s been observing for the last twenty-four hours. “Mainly just because I’m worried about a fight breaking out between either Stefan and Damon or you and them, but also because both Elena an Bonnie have confided some news in me that they’re planning on sharing tonight with each other and I’m not totally sure how they’re both going to react.”

Eyebrows raised, Tyler takes a step back, going back to setting the table as he prompts her with a simple, “Oh? Why? What’s their news?” 

She groans loudly, head thrown back, hands out at her sides. “Okay, so, technically I’m not supposed to say anything because I promised both of them that I wouldn’t, but you don’t count. I know for a fact that Elena tells Stefan everything, and the same for Bonnie with Damon, which, frankly, I think is even more insane than this dinner party because I wouldn’t trust him to keep a surprise party a secret, never mind anything of any importance.

“But anyway. Get this, would you believe, Elena and Stefan eloped.” 

Tyler’s eyebrows are practically off his forehead. “Wait, seriously? Wow.”

“I know! I mean, they’re married now! Which is totally crazy, right?” 

Biting hard on his cheek to keep a straight face, he nods with furrowed brows, and swallows hard before speaking. “Yeah, no, it’s crazy.”

He catches Caroline side-eyeing him, but he makes sure to give nothing away as he adjusts the last plate and she sets out the last of the cutlery. 

“And Bonnie’s news?” he asks, steering her back on track. 

It’s successful, too. Her eyes immediately widen and she’s talking a mile a minute, saying, “Oh god, that’s even crazier. I don’t think it’s even fully sunk in for me yet, I mean, I just can’t even picture it – I don’t want to, either, to be frank. Right, yeah. So… Bonnie’s pregnant.”

Tyler whistles through his teeth. “What? And it’s–”

“Definitely Damon’s, she says,” Caroline confirms, nodding.

“I can see why you’re nervous,” he says faintly, to her passionate agreement. 

He’s still processing that piece of information when the baby monitor crackles – not that they really need it when they both have hearing better than anything that requires a battery. 

Caroline’s head perks up like a dog’s ears. “Oh, is it five already? I need to feed them again.” She rubs her temples. “Do you think it’s worrying that Brianna is drinking more than Lucas is? Maybe it’s me. Maybe my milk is making him sick or something, do you think that’s possible?” 

“I think that they’re both perfectly fine,” Tyler says calmly, “but if you’re really worried, we can check in with the midwife again with any questions. I’m sure it’s just because Cas was a bit later than Bri. There’s always the formula stuff, see if it makes a difference for him.”

“True. I might try it,” she muses, biting her lip. 

There’s another groggy cry from upstairs. Seeing Caroline’s obvious need for a minute to go over her thoughts, he kisses her cheek and says, “I’ll get them.”

“Thank you, you’re the best, I love you!” she calls after him. 

“I know!”
