I think when Mikami's body crashed into the hard floor in the Yellow Box warehouse, his watch broke. Not only that the strong glass shattered, but the machinery also stopped working, now always showing one moment - the exact time when Mikami died. As everyone else went after Light to get him, Gevanni was the only one who stayed with him, that's when he noticed. He carefully unstrapped it from his wrist, and held it for minutes before he got up to gave it to Near.

After the Kira case ended, Gevanni immediately announced that he quits. When they last saw each other, Near gave the watch to him, without further explanation.

So as mentioned in my previous post about this bingo, my birthday is next month. And for that occasion I wanted to host another bingo! Like my last bingo in October 2021, this one will have moodboards to the squares. An AU where Mikami and Gevanni were already in an relationship for a while way before Kira existed. Lets just say Gevanni was in Japan at the time. However, as the news of Kira spread around the entire world, Gevanni joins the SPK. During this time he notices Mikami acting more distant around him, but he brushes it off and focuses on catching Kira. Meanwhile Mikami is literally killing people under Gevanni’s nose and is growing paranoid of him finding out.

Mikami knows Gevanni is working against Kira, aka God himself! That makes him an enemy that should be eliminated, but his heart is screaming at him not to. He will never dare harm him. Though he worries that Kira himself will instruct him to kill his own lover when the time comes.

Sooner or later, Gevanni secretly finds the notebook. He tried to convince himself that it wasn’t the actual notebook, but as he turns the pages to find more and more names, his entire world is shattered to pieces. No…Mikami would never kill anyone, would he? He isn’t Kira. With trembling hands he takes photos of every page.

It still didn’t make sense to him, even as he was crafting the fake notebook.

Hours before the warehouse incident, they share one final meal together in their shared apartment. The air around them is tense, as if both of them knew the truth but were too cowardly to speak up.

Minutes before the warehouse, they had one final kiss before leaving.

Gevanni stood by the rest of the SPK, across from the Task Force and Kira himself.

They were waiting for someone. He already knew who that someone was.

Gevanni froze when he heard the familiar voice outside, maniacally repeating delete over and over again as he scribbled everyones names into the deathnote. One of the Task Force members—Matsuda, if he remembered correctly—took out their gun, and without thinking Gevanni took his out too and almost shot him, completely forgetting who the “true enemy” was.

The man—Mikami—enters the warehouse. For a moment, Gevanni could barely recognize him.

He had this crazed look in his eyes, his stare completely glued to the brown haired man who smirked at the ground. This was nothing like the Mikami he knew.

Mikami counts down. Kira gives himself away at the last second.

Everyone is still alive.

All hell breaks loose. He and Rester rushed to detain Mikami. He did not struggle or yell, allowing himself to be handcuffed.

Upon his orders, Gevanni brought the fake over to Near. The boy read the names out loud, though for a fraction of a second the detectives black eyes locked onto him, before averting back to the pages. His real name—Stephen Loud—was not written down.

They try to arrest Kira with no success. He went on this whole monologue, before thrusting out towards the scrap hidden within his watch.

Gevanni’s vision went blurry. Before he knew it, Kira was dead, and his gun was in his hand.

Kiras reign is over. Mikami is sentenced to death.

Near finds out about Gevanni’s relationship with X-Kira. He allows him to visit Mikami in his cell a day before he gets executed. During their meeting, Gevanni completely breaks down and apologizes to him over and over. Mikami is silent throughout the entire exchange.

The day after his execution, Gevanni rests in their shared apartment. He goes through Mikami’s belongings, when he finds a folded piece of paper.

Written on the front, there was a lengthy letter that showed his gratitude, and if only the circumstances were different, he would’ve happily married him.

Written on the back, it says: “Stephen Loud dies peacefully in his sleep on February 20, and happily reunites with his lover.”

Mikami often had nightmares.

The worst dreams he ever had were decades ago, back when it was common for him to spot bruises all over his skin. In those dreams, he'd get beaten and bruised and laughed at a hundred times until he woke up, as if the bullies weren't satisfied with torturing him at school that they resorted to harassing him in his sleep as well.

Though as time flew by, those dreams didn't affect him anymore. He wouldn't wake up with his heart thundering against his chest and tears streaking down his face. Mikami just woke up like it was a normal day and continued his routine. That particular dream happened so many times he'd gotten used to it.

Until now.

The upper part of his body lunged forward the moment the nightmare came to an end. His eyes were wide open in the middle of the night, absolutely petrified at what he saw. Mikami’s hands were trembling like there was a mini-earthquake. His chest rapidly rose up and down as his heart slammed repeatedly against his ribs. Rooted deep within him was a panic that was about to be set free from its thousand year cage.

“No, no, no,” he muttered, his head buried into his knees. “Please, no.”

Mikami thought he was going to die at this moment, until familiar arms wrapped around him and patted his back.

“Hey, calm down.” Gevanni whispered. “What happened? Nightmare?”

He nodded.

Gevanni sighed and brought him into a hug. He gently caressed the sides of his face, brushing away the dark locks of hair from his teary eyes.

“I-I’m okay now. We should sleep—” Mikami stammered, but they both knew damn well when the other was lying.

“No you’re not,” he said. “You don’t have to pretend it doesn’t bother you. I know it’s tiring, being strong all the time. It’s okay, Mikami. You can be vulnerable with me. Let it all out.”

For the first time in years, he let his stoic exterior collapse and allowed the tears to flow.

Gevanni was now 37 and living a comfortable life with his wife and children. He had stepped away from the SPK and decided to never take part in another investigation again. Even after all these years he could still recall every second of that day vividly. The weight was still heavy on his shoulders and it refused to leave.

Sometimes the memories were too much to bear, and he’d have to go to the attic to calm down. Gevanni didn’t know why it specifically had to be the attic—but it was quiet and peaceful. The attic had photos of relatives and a few of his old belongings.

And…a watch.

It wasn’t his watch. Or his parents. It belonged to someone he wished he could forget.

Teru Mikami.

Known as ‘X-Kira’ to the SPK.

It had been a while since he last saw a glimpse of that watch.

It wasn’t anything special. It was a thing that carried nightmares and occasionally Gevanni wanted to throw it into the ground and crush it under his feet—however he never had enough courage to do so.

The former SPK member bent down to pick up the small treasure box the watch resided in. Gevanni wiped off a thick layer of dust and cobwebs from the wood, hesitating to open it.

He exhaled, closed his eyes, and lifted the lid.

There was the watch, as broken and as motionless as it always had been for 10 years. It was in fair condition—if not for the broken glass and slightly stained metal—but it could never be worn or used again.

Every so often Gevanni wondered if it was cursed.

He reluctantly scooped it up onto his palm, analyzing the structure. Shivers went down his spine as soon as his skin made contact with the metal. A nervous lump formed in his throat and his arms were rough with goosebumps.

He held it by the strap, squinting. The hands didn’t move, instead, eternally fastened on the time Mikami died.

The time Kira was defeated.

Gevanni rubbed his thumb over the broken glass and instantly regretted it.

It was like he was reliving the scene. With his own eyes he saw the blood rush out of Mikamis chest and the deafening scream that followed soon after. He saw him collapse to the floor, the watch shattering on impact.

While everyone else was chasing the main culprit, Gevanni stayed behind and watched the killer take his last and final breath. He had approached the body and stripped the watch off of his wrist. He was careful to avoid his eyes because he felt he would die, too, if he caught his gaze.

Gevanni handed it to Near without a word. The day he quit, the boy gave the watch back to him with a firm look.

It ended up in his palm, 10 years later.

Gevanni pondered the man Mikami once was, before he had ownership of the notebook. Maybe under vastly different circumstances the man would still be alive. He never knew what the man went through as a child, except for the vague confessions he would utter on TV.

Something about abuse and injustice; It was all fuzzy to him, so he couldn’t recall it word for word. All he knew was that Mikami was a tragic case of a tragic past.

How unfortunate.

Gevanni sighed, carefully placing the watch down into the box and shutting the lid. He needed to move on and stop dwelling in the past, but he just couldn’t.

Especially when it ended like that.

He placed the box on a shelf and turned around, greeted by his child standing near the door.

“Who did that belong to, Dad?” she would ask, her head tilted and gaze wide with curiosity.

“No one important,” He lied after a pause, his mind wandering off to old wounds and a traumatizing experience. “Just an antique.”

His daughter blinked, an expression of doubt on her face. Then she smiled and began to exit.

“Come on Dad! We’re having dinner. Mom cooked our favorite!”

Gevanni took one last glance—eyes full of melancholy and a mind full of ‘what if’s’—before following after his daughter.

Gevanni never really cried.

The last time he balled his eyes out was when he was merely a child; soft and curious about the outside world. Too curious, in fact, which made him nastily scrape his knee against the pavement.

His mother ran to his aid, scolding him while carrying him back inside. She shook her head in disappointment when he told her what he was doing prior to his injury.

"You shouldn't get yourself involved in things you know will end badly," she muttered while bandaging his wound. "That's how you get hurt."

Gevanni shouldn't have gotten personally involved with him at all.

But it was his idea, and now he has to suffer the consequences.

The consequences of watching your own lover slowly die before your eyes, and there was nothing you can do about it.

Gevanni was like a child again; sobbing on the floor of the warehouse as he held onto his body like a broken toy. He didn’t care if he was basically sitting in Mikamis blood, he just wanted to comfort him in his last moments before he passed away.

Mikami coughed and shook before gazing up at him. “Ste..phen..” he strained, cupping his face with a bloody hand.

“I’m here, I’m here, I’m here.” He held onto that hand for dear life because he knew that was the last time it’ll ever feel warm and alive. “I’m sorry for everything, please don’t leave me.”

“It’s okay,” Mikami told him, gazing up. “I can’t…blame you…”

For a man that grew up wishing for the death of others, those words hit like a truck. He didn’t seem to be lying, either. Those words seemed the most genuine he’d ever been.

“I’m sorry for betraying you, I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” Gevanni repeated the same phrase over and over like a broken record—but no amount of sorrys could ever bring him back.

He shouldn’t have gotten involved. He knew it was going to end with one of them dead, but he still said yes, still came over to his apartment, and still laughed and blushed when having a conversation with him. They hung out, they kissed, they had dinner at restaurants, they did all those things a couple did as if there would be no consequences.

Gevanni had explained to Near that being closer to him might help the investigation. But he didn’t think that he’d end up falling for his suspect, much less wake up on his bed.

If they never got to know each other then maybe it wouldn’t hurt so bad. But of course, Gevannis foolish antics made the pain a billion times worse.

“Please don’t leave me,” he said,

Just before Mikami’s hand went limp.

Gevanni never really cried, but that day he was wailing and screaming until his voice got hoarse, until he could cry no further and just sit there in silence in unbearable pain.

“You shouldn’t get yourself involved in things you know will end badly,” his mother used to tell him.

If only he had listened.

Bonus ending if you’re sad and want fluff

Gevanni woke up.

He looked around himself frantically. He wasn’t in the warehouse, instead, he was in his bedroom like nothing ever happened. Gevanni sighed of relief. That dream felt so real, so heart breaking, so..tragic—

“Are you okay?”

He looked behind him to find a familiar long haired man half-asleep.

“Was it a nightmare?” Mikami questioned with a raspy voice, pulling him back to bed by the shirt. “Sleep..we have work tomorrow.”

Gevanni obliged and laid down beside him. He stared into the drowsy face of the other male he was married to.

“Mikami?”

“Hm..?” Came his reply.

“You know I love you, right?” He said as he reached out to his face, brushing black locks out of the way to reveal his handsome features.

Mikami nodded. “Of course.”

They weren’t the type of couple to declare their love every minute, but sometimes, when things got hard for the two of them, it was nice to hear that phrase.

Gevanni scooted closer and wrapped his arms around him, inhaling his scent. He wasn’t affectionate most of the time, so this was quite out of the blue for him to do.

‘I love you’ were 3 words they didn’t say often, but after that dream, Gevanni was glad to feel his chest rise and fall as he slept.

Mikami often found himself staring from afar at the hot-shot male who sat beside him.

It wasn’t even on purpose either, sometimes he’d just zone out and would find himself staring at his face, drinking in those features that complimented each other so well.

All of his features were sculpted to perfection—but Mikami really liked his eyes. It was such a beautiful shade of blue; something very uncommon in Japan. He wasn’t wearing any contacts either—Gevanni was just born with it.

His looks just added flavor. His personality was the cherry on top.

Gevanni was a hard working man, highly skilled in almost every task Mikami could think of. He was also highly intelligent and didn’t settle for easy things. He sought out the answer to any equation, no matter how difficult it may seem.

He was a kind and ambitious person. What more could a person ask for?

They partnered up only once for a project. The other students sometimes joked and complained, saying that it would be unfair putting two valedictorians together. Mikami had turned around and firmly reminded them that it all came from hard work, then when he faced Gevanni again it seemed like there was a hint of admiration in the mans eyes.

It only lasted for a split second though, before he went ahead and began planning out what needed to be done.

They used this time to get to know each other more while also accomplishing their task. Despite being classmates in almost every advanced college class, they barely exchanged words with one another. The only sentences they would utter to each other would be a simple ‘congratulations’ or a greeting.

But it still gave Mikami butterflies.

One day after school, Mikami worked up the courage to invite him over to his place. It wasn’t the easiest thing in the world, but after a few minutes of pondering he eventually decided to try. However, maybe he waited for too long, because a long haired blonde girl approached him first and struck up a conversation.

Mikami isn’t the type to get jealous easily, much less over a man that wasn’t even his, but there was this lingering feeling in his chest—the exact same feeling he used to have as a child whenever someone talked about their parents.

He never felt that way in years, so his mind was in shambles when it resurfaced.

Mikami eavesdropped from afar. The girl introduced herself as Halle Lidner and was eager to get to know him. In return he replied with his name and asked if she were a transferee.

He didn’t hear the rest of the conversation because he had already left the premises.

The next day came and it was just the same. They talked about the project, got work done, and said goodbye when walking home.

But that girl did appear more often in his view, and soon Mikami found himself congratulating his friend on his new relationship.

It was a bittersweet feeling. Sure, he was happy for him and all, but deep down he longed for that, too. Mikami longed for that feeling of being wanted back. Sometimes he wondered what it would be like for someone to talk about him with stars in their eyes.

Just like Gevanni’s eyes when talking about Halle.

He noticed it every time. Every time Gevanni saw her, or when she entered the room, his blue eyes would light up while Mikami’s brown ones ‘sigh’.

Every time that happened he pretended to be preoccupied with the project. Erasing perfectly written words just to write them again and again until she finally left. Fixing his school uniform. Cleaning his glasses. Anything to keep his jealousy under control.

The worst thing? Mikami couldn’t hate Halle. Not at all. She didn’t kill anyone, she didn’t bully, she wasn’t purposefully obnoxious.

She was perfect and beautiful.

Halle was… Halle.

Months passed and graduation happened. Much to his surprise there were two valedictorians: him and Gevanni. They recited their speeches to the faculty and students at the podium and celebrated with their family.

Gevanni took photos with his girlfriend and relatives. Mikami went straight home.

A decade has passed since he last heard of him. Mikami was now 27, employed as a prosecutor and earning good money. He was in his usual outfit—a suit and trench coat—with a briefcase in his right hand. He was on his way to work, exiting the public transportation vehicle and stepping down onto the sidewalk.

Mikami felt someone tap on his shoulder. He turned around, and his eyes ever so slightly widened at the sight.

There was Gevanni, standing before him, just as handsome as he remembered. His hair was the same length and he didn’t seem too old or young. The only thing that changed was his height as his structure. He got more muscular, that’s all.

They talked for a while; catching up on how life had been for the other and their current occupations. Mikami told him all about being a prosecutor, while Gevanni informed him of working for the FBI.

Of course. A man as skilled as him would be handed an important job.

They stood there in silence for a few moments. Mikami shifted uncomfortably—he was off by just 4 minutes, but even that felt like a life time. He nodded his gratitude to Gevanni and turned around, ready to leave, when the other man suddenly called out his first name.

“I just wanted to ask you something,” Gevanni said, making him halt in his tracks. He turned around, slightly irritated, but calm nonetheless. Mikami stared at him with expectant eyes.

“Are you free this Sunday?”
