hi hello 👀🖤. dropping by to ask if you have any metal songs that you associate with our boy mickey. i'm partial to fuel and nothing else matters by metallica because i've used them as fic inspo, but the unforgiven also reminds me of him 😌🖤
🖤 VICKS. Omg. Yes. Hello. I do. Some of these are headcanons but I can't hear these songs without thinking of Mickey anymore.
Admission by Torche gives me heartbroken Mickey feels. I really can't listen to this song without thinking of him. (listen to this song listen to this song.)
I always pictured his brothers and/or cousins being into black metal and Mickey getting into it too when he was really young, like that just feels so real, but then he eventually leaned away from it as he got older and didn't want to listen to a bunch of nazi/nazi-adjacent bands. However, he keeps Darkthrone because they're fun as hell and truly harmless, and he's fascinated by Gaahl because he's amazed that someone so scary and badass could also be gay. I know I didn't mention specific songs with this one, I'm sorry!
Turbo Lover by Judas Priest lmao. Listen, we know Mickey appreciates the cheesier stuff (livin on a prayer hello hello anybody) but Judas Priest is badass and this song is gay as hell, of course he would love this and of course I would associate it with him.
Ohhh Red Fang. I just feel like he'd really like them. And I do specifically associate the song Wires with him, which is their most popular single, I think. I picture him getting baked and laughing his ass off at their music videos and Ian having to beg him not to buy a katana after watching Arrows. Sludgier Red Fang songs are featured on the wake and bake playlist he definitely has, but the playlist kicks off with God Luck and Good Speed by Weedeater, and also features some songs by Sleep that drive Ian fucking bonkers until he eventually gives in and realizes he's kinda into it.
So, that's a couple songs I specifically associate with him, plus some headcanons for ya. And there are more but I don't want to inundate you because you did not ask for this lol. I think I've shared some of these before, like a long time ago maybe? but the association with Torche is new and my thoughts about Mickey & black metal haven't been shared before I don't think.

CHIMPYZEE how r u doing this eve......have u listened to any good music lately :3
HI HI yes I have actually I’ve been on a massive new music kick lately so here’s some of the stuff I’ve been listening to lately!!
Tumblr media
Avant garde grindcore. Cripplingly destructive and insane. True fucking chaos. Imagine the inside of the head of someone caught in a nuclear blast
Tumblr media
Brilliant doom metal band. Sneering mustane style vocals but with a growl that makes it not just listenable but also charming instead of mustane’s irritable whine. Brilliant riffs that don’t A- be too stonery le epic weed doom bullshit B- not too groovy or funky I prefer my funk as disco (I also dip my toes into Philadelphia soul every now and then but I wouldn’t call myself a super fan but there’s a couple artists i have consistently enjoyed but I digress) and C- not too masterbatory so no long noodly shit. Lyrics are a bit silly but in a way I enjoy
Tumblr media
Another avant garde grindcore outfit but this time turned alt-metal experimenters. Great great discography. Nice and short. brutal stuff highly reccomend these guys first
Tumblr media
Horrorcore artist with some really good hooks and funny ott lyricism. Doesn’t fall into some of the usual trappings of horrorcore and keeps it feeling genuinely funny while balancing the derangement
Tumblr media
Classic metalcore. Clean vocals and catchy leads. What more can you want. Pure consumable candy. Blending the old school of metalcore with the at the time uprising of the boybands with breakdowns style.

personal update, I'm moving again so I won't be with irresponsible amoebas anymore! I convinced one of my friends to get an apartment in the same complex, and I'll be staying with them instead!
Huge bonus: they're a petite stonery trans guy who shaves for me and loves watching me jerk off or doing it together, since they can still barely take a finger or two. It's like a dream come true. Will update if I accidentally get them pregnant someday.

What are each of the dateables’ favorite music genres?
TATE: Shoegaze, 80's-90s industrial & goth, to a lesser extent old school emo (like Sunny Day Real Estate era)
JUNO: Likes industrial/goth like Tate and noise like Sawyer, but definitely is also into more stonery/complex stuff too like doom metal. Nonzero chance they're a big Aquabats fan
HEX: Dubstep dubstep dubstep wub wub wub!! Also REALLY loves rap metal.
SAWYER: Our sweet pretentious boy! We know he loves acid jazz a lot, but he's also into anything experimental/noise AND regular jazz, too. I can also see him liking folk punk but Sawyer would DEF see it as a guilty pleasure
LAILA: Singer-songwriter/acoustic stuff, and she has a soft spot for hyperpop and house (especially deep house)!

Fuck me, Fuck The Algorithm is fucking fucked-up …
… in a fucking good way, obviously.
Eclectic is an over used term in music reviews: usually merely indicating that a country/Americana act strays occasionally into CSNY territory, or a blues outfit manage at least once to leaven their relentless Chicago dumpa-dumpa-dumpa-dumpa with a splash of NOLA syncopation …
And there’s nothing wrong with either of those, but in the eight tracks of manic, maniacal, genre-mangling mash-ups of Fuck The Algorithm Mango Thomas redefines ‘eclectic’ as an ADHD chameleon on acid in a kaleidoscope during a laser-strobe light-show.
The opening track alone, Pjunkle, careens between a blizzard of high-speed machine drum, guitar and incandescently furious growled vox, and Eastern-spiced spacey electronica interlaced with lithe bass lines, burbling synths and melodic harmonised guitar… via a metal-cum-drum’n’bass maelstrom. Oh yeah, plus a closing ferocious excoriation of the www.
Musically that pretty much sets the template (of there being no template) for what comes after: a relentlessly-grinding deconstructed boogie opens Punk Bitch, breaking down to a beats-and-Parklife-on-steroids rap interspersed with fusiony guitar squiggles and playfully venomous music-hall psychedelia; a surprisingly stonery laid-back late-night jazz passage from electric piano and loose-limbed drums gives way first to minimalist jamband death metal twin-guitar lines, then a double-speed pogoing anthem, before a hanging close reprise of the ‘stoner jazz’ piano…
Hypnotically deep trancefloor bass, bubbling marimba-like accents and textured string synths underpin the increasingly urgent mantra of Whaddya Want, which canters (via some nice 80s samples and a Moroderesque hook) into a wall of melodic prog-fusion guitar and tricksy timings, ending in a staccato, punchy dead-stop.
Headlock almost convinces you it’s just the one thing: the complex percussive techno banger runs nearly half its 4-plus minutes with no more quirks beyond a bit of rapping and an occasional (very accomplished) noodling fretless bass… until that bass line returns in a full-on rendition augmented with guitar and increasingly abandoned multi-voice wordless “Na, na, na-na”s sounding like a terrace-chant Bond theme, rising to a wild peak.
As with Mango Thomas Goes De.EP his previous release, Fuck The Algorithm includes a trio of mini-tracks: Did You Mean’s spoken voice/SFX humorous rant against the Siri-tyranny of patronising suggestions; #fuckthealgorithm, a reprise of the polemic from Pjunkle set over a rather Hawkindish interstellar overdrive start-up; and Frosty Mornings, which actually does stick to its single groove of smoothly-swaying soully electric piano, heartbeat pulse rhythms and lush synth strings (although the swirling modulation, panning and phasing add an unexpected off-kilter spacey edge).
By seven tracks in, we’re all Mango Thomas veterans now, so Algorithms’ light and airy acoustic picking and mellow folky troubadour vox-led ‘love song’ aren’t fooling anybody… sure enough, the expected Oi-meets-Nu-Metal explosion of syn-drum and gutsy guitar heralds a blokey belted-out “We’re all algorithms” denunciation of the foregoing syrupy delusions, topped with very Frippish atonal guitar and a deconstructed brassy jazz-funk finale.
Now, this might all sound like a recipe for disaster, or at least a cacophonous dog’s dinner, and in the hands of someone less adept it could well be... but Mango Thomas pulls the feat off with considerable aplomb. Fuck The Algorithm is one of a handful of home-grown albums that has had me grooving and grinning simultaneously and, even more rare, laughing out loud at its invention, audacity and sheer joyous insanity. It’s fucking brilliant!
Oh yeah, almost forgot…

MY SISTER JUST CALLED ME AT WORK AND TOLD ME THAT DIEGO LIKES ME BACK!!!!!! Bro this is fucking crazy cause literally like a week ago I was losing my shit about this. And yesterday night I told my parents I was going to Emma’s house but actually we all went to Luke’s house and Diego and some stonery people I didn’t know were there and I didn’t really get to talk to Diego he just talked the the stoner people while I talked to my friends and Luke so I was worried I was too dorky for him or something or he just wouldn’t go for me. But Kate hung out with Maggie (who is close with Diego) today and apparently told her I like Diego (bitch) and Maggie said Diego said he thinks he’s like developing a crush on me or has been since we talked at that party which is like exactly how I’ve felt. Man I was just talking to my friend Cecilia like yesterday about how I wished I could take him to Homecoming. And I’m not saying that’s necessarily going to happen, I have no fucking clue where this is gonna go, but I’m just really happy. Like just walking around the ice cream store smiling. Goooooood that shit is crazy. I’m just so excited

hi hello now i must know what your top 5 metal subgenres are 👀🖤?
Hello yes!!!! 🖤
This is so hard! And really I don't listen to a ton of bands in each genre. I don't like, seek out a subgenre and dig into all the bands I find there. I'm going through my collection rn and it's really all over the place. But the bands I've been listening to the most sort of fall under the following categories, with a ton of overlap between genres:
Blackened shoegaze
Stoner metal/Heavy psych
Doom
Post black metal
Aaaaand. I don't know. Sludge I guess! Like people consider Mastodon and Baroness sludge and I kind of don't? But I listen to both of them all the time, along with other bands that are definitely sludgy
In reality I think I'm most likely to like something if you show me something riffy and stonery. In my twenties I tended to go way more for like atmospheric black metal but I try to stay away from black metal in general these days, with some carefully vetted exceptions.
I've also found that there's a ton of bands considered "post hardcore" that all sound nothing alike but I like so much of it. Also like, I'd say Alcest and Deafheaven both fall under post black metal and blackened shoegaze but they don't sound alike. Khemmis is doom, but so is Monolord, and they sound nothing alike. Etc etc. Shit's all over the place!

just kinda processing how much joe’s image and dominant audience have changed since he started working on the hunter s. thompson musical... like now a bunch of queer teenagers are gonna be excited about it, but it probably has a more obvious appeal to the then-late 20s-30s (now 30s-40s I guess?) stonery (and fairly straight) crowd that used to be at his shows
