Daemon Age: Inquisition
Blackwall & Leojeanne AKA Thom Rainier & Marta
Wire-haired Dachshund (C. l. familiaris)
When Thom Rainier settled, his father did not say anything of note, and his sister could not, for she was dead. The first comments on Marta’s form were made by the dog-hangers, and they said, “Fitting that your daemon would be a little bitch, Rainier!” Thom and Marta both wanted to beat the living daylights out of them. They chose not to. They chose to do nothing.
Blackwall, the real Blackwall, had a black bird. Small, and unnoticed most of the time. The imposter Blackwall could lie and say, “No, no, I have a black dog, not a black bird.” No one did anything. How could someone have the audacity to imitate another man and his daemon?
Blackwall is often covered in bites of unknown origin. Well, he knows. They come from Marta, who delivers the punishments she believes are deserved. She bites and growls and hisses insults at him. Nobody loves you. They all hate you. Thom believes her.

Zaranni refused to go to the festival. She's not very much into festivals. She's more keen on proving herself in battle and showing just how tough she is. But that didn't stop her from entering the forester competition. Of course there was skill to be tested there. And she won(even if she didn't win against anyone).

Sneak Peek of Part 2 of Through Your Eyes (Joel x Reader) - More than Meets the Eye - Coming Soon!
Tumblr media
A/N: So sorry this took so long! I have 14k to make up for it, though, coming soon. 😉 (Under the cut for those who want to avoid spoilers.)
“Joel? Where’s Will?”
He smirked with a gentle shake of his head. “Don’t worry ‘bout it.” Gripping the reins of his horse, he clicked the side of his mouth softly as he got near the creature's head, stroking it gently with one hand as the horse nickered at him.
You led your horse over toward him, reins pulled tight as the giant, powerful, dapple gray wonder named Delilah balked, digging into the earth and tossing her head side to side with a discontented snort.
She’s as stubborn as he is.
Dropping the reins you closed the last few feet between you and Joel, arms coming to cross over your chest once you landed behind him. “Well, I’m gonna.”
Joel sighed, resting his head against his horse’s, who let out a soft contented bray, before pulling back to look at you. “He’s okay,” he said softly. “Now, leave it alone.”
“How do you know?” You swiveled to follow him as he walked over to gather your horse’s reins, shushing the large mare until she, too, was nickering at him, then he led her back over to you.
Joel shrugged, pulling his face tight in amusement as he placed the horse’s tack back in your hands. “Jus’ do.”
“If you don’t tell me….”
Joel mounted his horse with a groan. “I patrol with the man. I just know his little quirks, okay?” Looking down at you, his horse stepped back and forth, eager to get going. Joel reached out to pat the back of the large chestnut’s head, muttering calming words. “Shhhh…. Calm down, Old Beardy….”
“Your horse's name is-”
“He’s not in trouble…. Yet,” Joel cut you off, sitting up abruptly on the back of Old Beardy. “But if he keeps pestering Jane like I think he’s wantin’ to, that could all change very quickly….”
You scoffed. “Really? Was that a not so subtle dig at me to stop pesterin’ you?”
Joel shrugged. “You said it. I didn’t.” And with that, he nudged his horse forward, trying hard not to smile.
Xxx

I immediately think it's a workout plan to be big and strong like our Beardy Boy here.
And then I see the words "for stubborn fat belly."
ARE YOU FKN KIDDING ME.
Look at Beardy Boy! That man has a defined adonis belt. There is muscle tone here. He could pull a truck with his teeth. Do you even understand what real strong dudes look like? Get out of my face with Mr. Sculpty Bland Man up there.
Istg I almost made noises. Angry ones. Then whiny ones.
C'mon, Beardy. You're coming home with me. You throw me over your shoulder like a sack of sexy potatoes and I'll point the way.

watching my sisters leopard gecko, and her (and my) bearded dragon, is such a funny difference.
beardies are clearly aware of their surroundings and situations. they’ll look at things and listen to noises and react accordingly. they’ll beg for cuddles and be stubborn and have attitudes and just Know things.
leopard geckos are like :3 i exists.

Wellll happy Freyja Friday ❤️
How have y'all been? No more heat wave right, is the baby girl more energetic now that it's a little bit cooler? Any more shedding?
How's school going? Are you both getting more used to your fall schedule? Miss Freyja have any complaints? 😉
Does Freyja play? Does she have toys? Can she have toys or will she just destroy them or does she even care lol Lizzie has been trying to give Nova a toy every now and then except she immediately regrets it and wants it back 🙄 the utter drama queen
What're we liking to eat lately? Did you get basil from your partner's dad's garden? I love the communal garden idea it's why I'm part of so many seed exchanges 😆
Nova has really come out of her shell and she LOVES to bark 😭 she seems just very vocal in general she's made a lot of different noises I don't typically hear dogs make lol
Sometimes when I'm down I go look at the gifs of Freyja shaking her little booty in her bath 🥰
HAPPY FREYJA FRIDAY ❤️ c:
We’ve been relatively good, and Freyja is just being Freyja. Heatwave or not, she’s unscathed and as unbothered as always lol c: you know… aside from mealtime, and snacking Freyja’s never energetic. I’d like to think she preserves energy and depletes it when it counts 🤭 another surprising thing is that she hasn’t had any shedding this far 😆 it makes me so happy for her since it brings on (an unknowing) discomfort for her 🥰
School is a tad stressful but I miss it? I do in a weird way… I guess I like the stimulation it brings sans anxiety shrug🤷🏾‍♀️ and I think that Freyja and I are adjusting forsure. Now that I’m home more often, I find time to spend with her while working on assignments. That’s the beauty in being a reptile mom, they’re simple and don’t require more than closeness c: I appreciate that about her… 💓 I guess the only complaint she would have is to offer her more worms and to serve them elsewhere lol
Look here! She was struggling this morning to get the past worm 🤣
Tumblr media
(I can’t help but to think she’s a little too stubborn… and she gets that from my partner lmao)
Freyja doesn’t have any toys now that I’ve considered it… but I’m super down with trying to see if she would be into that. I know a hammock isn’t a toy, but it’s the only object that I know she would love in her enclosure. There’s times where she will pancake on the couch rest and it always reminds me to get her one… maybe I’ll get her a toy while I’m at it c:
So I didn’t get the basil the last time I was there but I did get parsley! Annnd she didn’t even blink at. She gave it a sniff and that was it 😗 quite literally her food (🦗) was more into the parsley… If I don’t get her basil the next time, it’ll be because I’ve finally decided to try out butternut squash; I’ve heard it’s pretty popular among beardies so I’ve been meaning to incorporate it into her diet a while back 😅
NOVA and LIZZIE are getting along?! That warms my heart 🥹❤️ especially after all that you’ve told me about that possessive gal… she’s very sweet for trying and for just being somewhat selfless… I think it’s very comforting and thoughtful of Lizzie to (attempt) gift Nova something that is so significant to her like that c,: and what?! Miss Nova carries a tune or more?! Wowowow this is so exciting!😆 you HAVE to show me or gift me audio of her antics! She sounds so fun and lovely 🥰
I am glad that Freyja impacts you in that way. I’d have to say that she picks me up too c: I can definitely say she has this spunk that makes it all okay even though I know none of what she does is all too intentional… is it ironic that a cold blooded creature like her is such a heart warmer? I feel like it is even if she legit siphons heat from me whenever we cuddle 🥰 thank you for sharing that with me ❤️

my boyfriend's beardie is shedding but his back is taking a long time to loosen up, should we try and soak him in warm water to loosen it up?
you can! sometimes it just takes a bit for it to start peeling. if you mean its Already peeling but there's some stubborn spots, a soak can definitely help
you probably already know this but just in case, don't try to pull skin off before its ready!

Ok! So, this is a reference to Holes. Holes is a great book, but I’d say the movie is better, for the sole reason that there’s ‘venomous aggressive lizards’ and they’re played by beardies, the most tame and chill lizards you can get. Reminder that there are three parts of this story, I am just telling you one part
So basically, Madame Zeroni made a deal with the great great grandfather of the main character, Stanley Yelnats the first. Stanley wants to woo a girl he fell in love with. Madame Zeroni warns him that her head is full of air, and America is where his future laid. He was stubborn, so Madame Zeroni got the smallest runt of a pig she had.
She gave it to him, and gave him these instructions. He had to take the pig up a mountain, and as it drank to sing it this lullaby:
“If only, if only, ” the woodpecker sighs
“The bark on the trees was as soft as the skies”
As the wolf waits below, hungry and lonely
He cries to the moo-oo-oon, “If only, if only”
Then, Madame Zeroni said, after, to carry her up the mountain, and let her drink,
He does so, and the pig grows fat quickly.
Stanley the first brings it to his crush’s dad. It is the exact same weight as his competition. The dad lets his daughter to decide. Between Stanley, who is about as young as her and with heart in his hand, and his competitor, an old man who is marrying her with no love. She can’t decide, so she tries to think of a number. Stanley, angry and heartbroken, leaves and lets them keep the pig. He moves to America like Madame Zeroni suggested, but on the boat, he realizes he forgot the promise he made.
His entire bloodline is cursed. One Stanley gets rich, but mugged in the desert. Another can’t find the recipe for his work. And Stanley the fifth, the main character, gets imprisoned wrongly. He teaches them all the lullaby.
Stanley is brought to this horrible place, where its inhumane and probably illegal. He makes a friend with someone named Hector, who eventually runs away.
He runs after Hector, and finds a mountain, which looked like a hand. Now, his great grandfather who got robbed survived, and no one knows how. He just muttered about “God’s thumb” He carries Hector up, and they find a stream. They both eat onions, and Stanley drinks some water and collapses. He hums the lullaby, as it turns to night. Now, because the descendant of Stanley carried the descendant of Zeroni up the hill, let him drink while singing the song, they become uncursed
Thank you!

I don’t think I’ve mentioned this yet, but I’ve adopted a son!
Meet Hephaestus, my 2yr old beardie. He likes sunbathing in the window, running amok in my living room, and bonking his head on his terrarium glass until I take him out. His favorite thing to do is cause me deep grief by refusing to eat any fruit&veggies despite them being supposedly like 80% of his diet.

The Mortal Instruments – Graphic Novel Vol.2 Story by Cassandra Clare, Artwork by Cassandra Jean
Yeah… so I bought volume 2 immediately after reading 1, and honestly, I’ve already bought and read volume 3 as well! For those of you who do not know these graphic novels are adaptations of a series of six books written by Cassandra Clare. Graphic novels volumes 1 and 2 complete the events of the first fiction book City of Bones, and I’m assuming that each original book is adapted into two volumes of graphic novels. Volumes 3 and 4 are already out and I believe cover book 2 City of Ashes, and volume 5 which will probably be published this year will be the start of book 3 City of Glass.
A new volume is published once a year around October or November. Quick maths calculation: in theory there should be 7 more volumes… published once a year… I’ll be done with this series in 2028! But that’s ok. Because illustration takes time. The art by Cassandra Jean is absolutely lovely and I wouldn’t want an artist’s work to be compromised in terms of quality just to get the volumes out quicker.
For this review I’m not going to discuss the events of volume 2, I haven’t read any of the original novels but I have seen the 2013 film The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones and also clips of the TV series, so I’m actually more interested in taking the time to do a light comparison of some of the characters and how they’ve been interpretated differently.
As I already said in my previous review, I really love the graphic novel version of Clary, she’s so cute and stubborn, and is similar to the film Clary. TV series Clary has the most hideous hair colour I’ve ever seen, it looks so artificial and neon at times, and in general all the young characters seem older in the TV series.
Like Clary, film Jace and graphic novel Jace feel very similar, both versions feel young and angelically beautiful but with a touch of vulnerability. I really dislike TV Jace, he seems too old, too blokey.
For me the biggest character change is Alec. Both in the film and the TV series Alec is older looking, more masculine and strong, almost buff. In the graphic novel he looks more like a teenager, more feminine, and physically and mentally more vulnerable. I don’t dislike any of the interpretations, although film Alec is a little ugly to me and aggressive, but in fairness, we don’t get a chance to see much of his character, and there is a hint at awkwardness and vulnerability. What I find curious is how the same character can be interpreted so differently.
Magnus is another character that is slightly different in each version. In the film we don’t see much of him but he seems like a very sexy, early-twenties trendy New Yorker type. In the TV series he’s a little bit older, more flamboyantly gay and eccentric, he has so much personality that he’s a delight to watch. Graphic novel Magnus is younger, looks like late teens / early twenties, sort of a cool urban hippie, the sort of young man who looks like he believes in new age spiritualism and goes surfing all the time. I do enjoy all interpretations.
Valentine played by Jonathan Rhys Meyers in the film, looks like a sexy urban pirate, vs the graphic novel interpretation of him as a sophisticated, handsome gentleman villain. TV Valentine looks more like a regular bloke, unlike the other two, this one isn’t as physically attractive to a younger audience.
Luke is the only character which I feel is similar in both the graphic novel and the TV series, both have this tight t-shirt wearing beefcake vibe, I love that the TV series went with a black actor for Luke, because why not? The story is set in present day New York, there’s no reason, not even story-wise, why main characters can’t be ethnically diverse. The Luke of the film is more homely, beardy and has wavy hair, there’s something about him that mutters “hello I’m a secondary love-interest and will never get the girl”, a very “Simon” vibe, whereas the graphic novel Luke is a definite hunk and clearly worthy enough to be a lead love interest for Jocelyn and to go up against Valentine.
Having written that, it does raise some potentially problematic issues about what we perceive to be leading man and secondary man traits. But I’ll leave that for a future review to cover.
Side Note: I don’t think I mentioned this in my first review of volume 1 but the only thing I don’t like about this graphic novel series is the production quality of the cover, nothing to do with the illustration design but specifically the finish or lack of finish to be honest, on the printed cover. Usually book cover can have a range of final finishes, the most basic of which are either a shiny, gloss finish, or matt with lamination layer. The lamination gives the paper some protection and a thicker feel. The covers on these books look like they’ve just been printed and received no finish at all. They might have but they don’t feel like they do, they feel cheap and a little flimsy, at first I thought perhaps Amazon had sent me one of their Print-on-Demand books, oh the horror, but no, when I ordered from an independent bookshop it was the same. It’s a shame because they books are really beautiful and it’s the production side that has let them down slightly.

Hope there's worms for dessert~🤤 (Yes, good boys who eat their greens get wormies~ ✨ Also, he still insists on eating whole leaves or chunks of leaves over salad. Good thing it's more exercise and better for the teeth, lol) #beardeddragonsofinstagram #beardiesofinstagram #beardiesofig🦎 #beardiesofig #beardielife #beardielove #beardiesofinsta #beardiesrule #beardies #beardeddragon #lizardsofinstagram #lizardsofig #lizardsofinsta #lizards #reptilesofinstagram #reptilesofinsta #reptiles #petstagram #petsofinstagram #pets https://www.instagram.com/p/CRjvcdfMw-9/?utm_medium=tumblr

My Animals~
I haven’t posted much animal news lately, so here’s an update!
Freddie the Spide (avicularia avicularia) passed away. :( I got her as an adult and I think she was older than I thought. Probably a retired breeder, as the spider is very popular in the pet trade. Avics reproduce readily and they’re pretty docile for an arboreal species. They also have the cutest salmon-pink toes. Freddie’s claim to fame was being as mercurial as her namesake, Freddie Mercury. She would only eat if presented food in JUST THE RIGHT WAY, she would regularly shit out the vents of her cage all over my desk, she had no idea how to make webs (much like freddie mercury couldn’t cook) and one of her molts was a dramatic upside-down affair off her cork mark after she’d glued her feet to the surface. She never disappointed. I’ll miss her.
Cricket the Bearded Dragon is FAT. She loves roaches, but it’s a struggle to get her to eat greens, so I ordered some beardie buffet Repashy and she LOVES IT. omg. I think I need to made the cubes I give her just a little smaller because she tries to swallow them whole. XD But she’s doin’ good for an old lady.
Daphne the Ragdoll Recently had a bladder/UTI combo and was in pain for a while. But after lengthening the time it took to give her medicine (by learning to hide every time I opened the fridge) she did manage to take the full course of her antibiotics and is doing AMAZING. I also worked on trust exercises for months until she was comfortable with my touching her belly, and I finally worked out a stubborn mat that’s been there for a long time. She steals all my needle felting projects and hides them.
Saturn the Moggie and Kobol the Bull Terrier Are both great. Kobol’s getting old so we’ve had to increase her potty times a bit because she’s peed in my bed a couple times. Regular outside breaks and no water an hour before bed time seems to be working well. Saturn is her partner in crime, knocking over the trash can so she can feed on the spoils.
The Snekkos are doing well. Evie and Stop Box have even joined me at work for show and tell! I’m considering taking Deacon in, as well. Evie could definitely be an ambassador animal. She’s so gentle and calm.
The Spides ...I suspect Luka and Stella are females. I think Nephilim might be male considering the rate at which he’s growing. Then again, he is a goliath bird eater and may just be hyooge. Stitch has a giant ass but also molts a LOT, so I’m not 100% sure of their sex just yet and they shred their molt every time. Then there’s little Linus, who’s just adorable and growing well, and Ozzy who keeps me company on my desk. <3

Hello please infodump reptiles to me, I would like to Know Things
YAY I’m gonna talk about Pancake cause his reptile brain is finally maturing and it makes him do weird stuff in the winter lol.
so, a little background. as babies, bearded dragons need to eat a TON of protein. like, hundreds of bugs a day. granted, they’re tiny bugs for their tiny mouths, but still. their diet is almost all bugs, several times a day. as they get older, they slowly transition to eating greens more and more until their diet is mostly greens with just a little bit of protein throughout the week.
so as Pancake’s been growing, we’ve been trying to wean him off of bugs as much as possible. he absolutely would not TOUCH greens for quite some time, which was troubling. we tried all different types and he just didn’t care, he only wanted bugs. so a couple months ago, I tried just giving him greens and not offering bugs at all. even after DAYS of this he didn’t try the greens. I was like, ok, I know they can be stubborn, but this is ridiculous. something else is wrong. why isn’t he hungry at all??
and THAT is when I realized, he is just now at the age where he’s old enough to brumate! brumating is the reptilian form of hibernation in the winter months. in the wild, Pancake would probably burrow into the soil and take a nice long nap for a few months, absorbing water in the soil through his cloaca to keep him alive. of course, in captivity, there’s no need for this. so while many beardies will still go through regular brumation (yes, some people’s pets actually go to sleep for the good portion of 3 months and only wake up occasionally for water), others will do some weird half-way brumating, where they just eat less and sleep more but are still waking up each day like normal.
so, basically, my little baby WAS still being stubborn, but it was mostly because he just wasn’t that hungry in general and was trying to brumate. I felt so bad when i realized this 😭 I adjusted the times his lights turn off at night so he could start going to bed earlier (he was already going to his sleep spot around 3pm anyway), and started alternating bugs and greens each day without worrying if he didn’t touch the food.
and now he’s a happy sleepy boy who eats a little bit each day (both greens and bugs!!) and is happy that his mama isn’t yelling at him for avoiding food anymore :-)
