I had these guys for a long while, because surprise I have Ben 10 and Secret Saturdays OCs. I love Ben 10 and Secret Saturdays and one day I was like "hey why won't I make a sequel to both shows lol". So meet Secret Galaxy, the rag tag team of freelance superheroes consisting of Ben Tennyson's grandson, Zak Saturday's granddaughter, Vilgax's son, and Charmcaster's protege. Feel free to ask questions about them!

Denny Tennyson - Dennis Lee Tennyson is the grandson of the famous Benjamin Kirby Tennyson. Unlike his grandfather when he was his age Denny is a quiet and reserved young boy, prefering to spend time only with himself and a select group of friends due to not trusting people's interest in him. Despite this he's sympathetic and will try to reach out to someone if he sees that they're in trouble or in need of help. Denny is also very creative and artistic, which extends to how he battles as well as him prefering to use his alien forms's powers to their fullest extent rather than just bruteforcing his way through everything. Originally during the summer he graduated elementary school Denny got his very own Omnitrix, which he was initially hesitant about but grew to appreciate and like his Omnitrix.

Sam Saturday - Samantha Saturday is the granddaughter of Zak Saturday. She is a spitting image of her grandfather even having the same cryptid controlling powers he did. Sam's a mischevious and tomboyish young girl that seeks adventure at any moment and likes to mess with people around her. However she does have a more caring side, as she deeply cares for and stands up for her family and friends. This more caring side also extends to her being willing to defend those she sees as in trouble, no matter how dangerous her opponent is. While she has inherited The Claw from her grandfather, on the same summer Denny got his Omnitrix she also found a mystrious Omnitrix-like device that she dubbed the Cryptrix, which allows her to turn into 10 cryptid like forms (and also allows her to channel her cryptid powers easier). Sam and Denny are best friends since childhood and are usually seen hanging out together, though a lot of people including their families say that they two kids sometimes feel like siblings.

Sytrax - Sytrax is the son of the feared conquerer Vilgax. He's a serious, honor bound chimera sui generis (ex) bounty hunter. He acts somewhat self centered and dislikes being underestimated or being looked down upon. However he does have a softer side that he does not like showing, and desires to have a group of people he can trust and feel safe around one day. On top of that his sense of honor makes him more fair in combat towards those he sees as weaker than him. Originally he was trying to find his own footing to carry on Vilgax's legacy, being raised to see his father as a noble but powerful ruler. But after encountering Denny and eventually learning the truth of his father's nature Sytrax started rejecting his father's legacy and went on to try to forge his own identity seperate from Vilgax, such as trying to become a plumber. Despite Ben's and Vilgax's rivalry, Denny and Sytrax end up becoming very close friends and even having a somewhat brotherly dynamic.

Curseslinger - Curseslinger is the (adopted) daughter and apprentice of Charmcaster, the Queen of the Legerdomain. She was chosen by Charmcaster for her reat magical abilities and cunning street smarts. However, Curseslinger feels that she's actually not good enough to be the student of the Queen of the Legerdomain, which results in her frequently performing on the streets and in talent shows to show off her magic powers to people and hopefully win over their approval as a substitute for her own internal approval. Although Curseslinger's very quirky and can come off as creepy to some people, she's friendlier than she appears, and is very loyal to her friends and those she likes even though she may not appear to at first glance. Curseslinger takes an interest in Sam and the Saturdays due to their connection to more mystical elements of the galaxy such as cryptids. Sam does in fact admire Curseslinger and her magical prowess, which gives the witch some confidence in her powers and have even more of a fondness towards Zak's successor. Curseslinger and Sytrax also end up as a couple, and tend to be very affectionate with one another.

Okay guys, let me tell you what the past 2 weeks have been like for me.

(Important piece of info. I work in a school for autistic students and I have arguably one of the most challenging classes in the school with multiple violent students).

So first, my class was already more heightened than usual. One of the mornings, the school bus comes in and I’m asked to go down and help because one of my students was dysregulated on the bus and was attacking people. I get down there, talk to him, offer him a hug and he jumps into my arms. I start to carry him out of the bus when something triggered him again and he bit my shoulder. Took him to class, got him settled then finally went to handle my shoulder. The pain became so bad that I had to take the next day off work because I couldn’t lift my arm. Took a few days until it was recovered enough to do anything, and this cut into my art commissions too.

Friday, my hot water at home stops working. We contact our realtor and they don’t get someone out until Wednesday to fix it. It was 5 days we didn’t have any hot water.

Monday, my students are starting to fight again. It’s getting worse each day. They break several of the things I have bought with my own money. I get injuries not only from my students, but the students in other classes. They aren’t always trying to hurt me specifically, but when they target other kids I have to get between them. I was kicked, slapped, punched in the face, had a rock thrown at me, spit on, and one of my students suddenly developed some inappropriate touching habits and started squeezing my boob and touching my butt.

By Wednesday, it becomes so bad, and the class so unruly that for the first time in the 4 years working there, I broke down crying from stress. I held it together long enough to get them calmed until i managed to go to my lunch break. I was so anxious that one of my students was going to get seriously injured (thankfully they didn’t and I was the only one who ended up with bruises.) My coworkers were very supportive and my boss offered to let me leave early, but I knew the students would struggle even more if I left so I stuck it out. On top of all this, I’m having issues with a coworker/s who keep removing my stuff from my class storeroom without asking. I’m happy to share my personal resources, but I don’t think it’s too much to ask that people don’t just waltz in and take things without asking.

Thursday I woke up with a sore throat and headache, realising I was coming down sick :|

Friday, my 1 month old computer started BSODing. It took hours to figure out the issue (turns out the ram had somehow got jostled and just needed to be reseated).

Saturday, I go to hang my washing outside and see that the water heater is spraying water all over the backyard. We call the electrician who had fixed our water issue a few days earlier and he tells us he had noticed a small leak at the time and had notified our agent, telling them to send a plumber out to fix it. They never did (presumably because we pay the water bill). Called an emergency number for a plumber and he came out within an hour to fix it.

That night as I’m telling someone I’m convinced some divine entity is playing a joke on me, I say “what’s the bet I wake up tomorrow and my period starts?”

WELL GUESS WHAT HAPPENED WHEN I WOKE UP THE NEXT MORNING?

Now it’s Sunday evening, I’m laying here sick and with cramps, super behind on my commissions and tasks, hoping I’m well enough to go to work tomorrow because we have a new student starting in our class and I don’t want his first day to be with a substitute. Whatever mysterious force out there is having fun with me, please just give me a break for a bit ;o;

i think the one good thing that's happening to me is that I finally, finally get to play Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. This game is so well done. The conversational chatter, the background conversations, the dialogue that iterates Ratchet's confidence and experience with saving the world so many times, the animation, *GARY*!!! Since recently we posted some things about tourism, I think this will be interesting to share too. I’ve translated to English a news video and an article about one of the main problems that come with the massification of tourism: gentrification and the expulsion of local people.

As a reference, when in Catalan we talk about “the islands” it means the Balearic (Mallorca and Menorca) including the Pityusic (Eivissa and Formentera) islands.

English speakers are more familiar with the translated name “Ibiza”, but in this post I’ll be using the island’s native name “Eivissa”.

Doctors, teachers or waiters, without an affordable place to live in the Islands

The price of apartments is focused towards tourism and makes it impossible for people who want to live in it to pay it, so they have to resign from their jobs because they can’t make it [they have to pay too much compared to the money they get paid]

The prices set for tourism in the Islands makes it practically impossible for people who work there to find a place to live that they can pay.

It’s not a new situation, but it has spread and is becoming worse. And this has the consequence that jobs are left vacant, from healthcare to teaching, waiters or electricians.

Journalist: Maria Margalida Perelló has been living in a hotel. She was supposed to start working as a substitute teacher in a high school in Eivissa and she didn’t find any place.

Maria Margalida Perelló: I can’t do it economically, to live in a hotel, where you don’t have a kitchen, you have to go eat out or try to manage. Every weekend I wasn’t living here, I go back to Mallorca because it’s much more affordable to do that.

J: There are more teachers in the same hotel. If you don’t join the job offer, you’re penalized [in the system that assigns teaching places]. On the internet, an active Telegram group helps substitute teachers find a flat, but now towards the end of the school year it’s impossible.

The islands are full of examples of the lack of affordable renting apartments. In general in all the islands, and in the Pityusic islands, for years it has been even more worrying.

Pep Martí, works at a shop: There has been weeks where we have gotten 10 or 12 people coming here only to look for a house, a living place, one room, whatever we can offer them.

J: It’s not possible to find waiters nor cooks. The waiting list for stonecutters, plumbers or electricians is long. Nurses and medical professionals don’t want to come. In Formentera’s hospital they have been left for weeks without any oncologist. To the problems of work stability, they must add the problem of a place to live in.

Pepo Rubio, from Ràdio Illa Formentera: Not only is it expensive on an economic level, it’s also expensive for its conditions. They should have to accept the renters who want to live here all year. For example, [renters] have to abandon their usual place of residence in summer [because landlords prefer to rent it to tourists].

J: That’s why everything is for rent. Shared rooms, garages that become living spaces. These are the 12 apartments that the police has gotten in one of the most troubled neighbourhoods of the island, Sa Penya.

About 40 families lived here in substandard housing that the City Hall of Eivissa has reformed and has now given to Policia Nacional [Spanish police] who are destined to the island. An experience of making two very different worlds live together.

Doctors and nurses are now also asking to be given a living space for free in summer to be able to come and cover the needs of the island’s hospitals.

A balcony for 500€, a room for 1,000€, a mattress for 500€... the other face of Eivissa, where it’s almost impossible to live

Flats shared with 12 people, rooms that reach 1,000€ of rent each month or only a mattress for 500€. Living in Eivissa is almost mission impossible and not only in summer. The platform Affected by Touristic Flats brings together 9,000 inhabitants of the island. Some families leave their city because the situation is unsustainable.

A room with only one bed and dampness for 500€, that’s where Alexandra sleeps with her 12-year-old son. With a job and a stable income, this is the best she has been able to find. “There are balconies for 500€, rooms with 3 beds for 600€ each bed, I have my job and even working I can’t pay for a home”, she says.

Another flat is inhabited by 13 people, until now they paid 250€ for a mattress and now their landlord want to fit two more people and raise their rent to 350€ each. Her name is Lourdes, she’s from Eivissa and she sleeps in a room with her mother and her two children. The daughter is already 3 years old but she has to keep sleeping in her cradle because there isn’t room for anything else.

Taking a look on the internet, we’ve found many adverts; we called one of them, showed ourselves interested in a room and this was the answer: “The flat is 3,000€, it has three rooms and I have to divide the expenses, it’s 1,000€ per room.”

All of this is deriving in an increase of shanty towns, where employed workers live. They can’t find homes anywhere and with their salary they can’t pay for any room. This is the other face of Eivissa.

I think these two give the idea. But there are many more examples of this situation in the islands, even more so in Eivissa, which is a hotspot for international nightlife tourism (for example, this one about paying 800€ each month to live in a flat infested with rats).

And yes, when they say “balcony” they don’t mean a flat with a balcony, they mean that the person lives completely only in the balcony, outdoors. The ones marked in red in the next photo are examples of rented balconies in Eivissa:

no yoga 04102023

yoga instructor is out of town. they did schedule a substitute yoga instructor but i like the usual instructor so much that i didn't want to go do yoga with anyone else.

i did ride my bike to my mom's house and visited with my mom and my 2 sister and brother in law and my daughter and her husband and several nieces. my sister fixed bqq pulled pork sandwiches for supper.

earlier in the afternoon, i helped son in law fix a small water leak. he was tempted to call a plumber. he fixed the leak for less than $15.

Rewrite vs. Canon: Ben 10 Omniverse

The new team consists of Ben, Rook, Kai, and Jora; so we have two girls on the team instead of it just being two guys and shitty romance subplots. Kai wants to collect artifacts from being lost in the "Time War" while Jora fully explores being a superhero regardless what anyone says. Kevin doesn't go with Gwen to school, allowing her to flourish on her own. Instead he is reconciling with his family; and has unfinished business in the Null Void. The four MCs go travel to different dimensions and meet other Omnitrix welders, not just alternate but alternates of other characters and even a few OCs. While the overgrown easybake oven is the main threat, the ultimate looming villain is Eon.

We get glimpses of Gwen in college, mainly learning more magic and creating her own team with her roommates and academic rival (Niya, Marion and a couple more OCs).

Rook gets more supernatural abilities because i think it's weird for an alien species he was too normal. So he has feline powers like retractable claws, heightened senses and aura sense. This is also why he was given the Proto-Tool (which i call the Bayotrix - bayonet+tricks and proto-tool sounds lame).

Jora's main arc has her pursue an active role in politics placing her at odds with characters like Will Harangue and Attea. She also discovers she can link up with certain elements to create powerful affects.

Ester joins as a sixth ranger and gradually becomes Kai's love interest. We also get more of cousin lucy, and how she's become the new leader of the Lenopans.

Cousin Sunny drops by with a whole new look and attitude, forced to live with Bens' parents to straightened her out. Eventually with Clyde, Cooper, Ester, Lucy, Julie, and Rook's girlfriend, they form the Substitute Plumbers. One episode is dedicated to them.

Blukic and driba pop up every once and awhile as comic relief but also GENUINELY useful.

There is no recreate the universe shite in fact that's treated as a bad thing AND eon's origin story.

The rooters are actually a vigilante group taken over by that baldy guy. Kevin's dad was a part of it but was betrayed; Aggregor comes back not exactly to male amends with Kevin but to avenge a fellow Osmosian as law dictates. OH AND WE MEET KEVIN'S GRANDMA STEPHAN E. "Really? He wasn't kidding me? Huh." There was a chance that Funky was pulling his leg too, but so far, he'd been the straight man. "Yeah. He tries all the time. Weirds me out a little; humans take baths with soap and water. If nothin' else, I wish he'd warn me first."

"Kiddin'? Bout what?" Funky chuckles, he should know better than to try to figure out what shenanigans DK's gotten into. "Ehhh, you'll have to excuse him. Didn't get much attention as a kid." He adds.

Curious, he tilts his head towards the plumber. "Hmm? Well... we do soak around in springs a bit. The licks aren't really a substitute for that. I figure it's just nerves and anxiety kickin' in. That's what momma's do anyway. They're always frazzled and ready to lick your face off." A low laugh later, he taps the counter top of his business.

"Sorry ~ DK can be a baby like that. I'll flip him over my shoulder next time he comes round on your behalf."

Research For What Did People Use Before Toilet Paper?

The reason this post on What Did People Use Before Toilet Paper? came to be was because I wanted to know how in the ancient times did people do their business so that my story would be more accurate.

This of course led me down a rabbit hole and I ended up finding out a lot more. I thought to myself I should make this a post because I might need this info again. It’ll also be convenient to have it all in place. However, at the time I forgot to include sources so I can’t recall all of them exactly.

But I do know that it was a mixed of articles on artifacts, historical documents and old texts, such as literature, personal accounts like journals and so on, because they contained brief mentions of what the people used as toilet paper in them, etc.

Oh look, some ficlet. Rook, Ben, and Argit post-’Food Around the Corner’. Meant to be for that ‘Argit on the OV team’ au, but good for pretty much any universe.

Argit didn’t even look up as they, neither would say stormed though that was damn close to what Ben was doing, into his apartment.

“Need to change that fucking lock,” he muttered at the piece of tech he was fiddling with. “So, how did Operation: Lie to Government Officials go?”

“It was a small untruth,” Rook said with a glower, “and you cannot judge the Plumbers for it.”

“I,” Argit answered, “don’t claim to be the ‘morally righteous best of the best’, or whatever havoc tracks they’re spouting nowadays.”

“Not the time,” Ben cut in with a frown. He threw himself down in one of the spare seats, glaring at Argit as he did. Rook rounded the couch to take a seat as far from the action as possible. “Care to explain why, despite having a supposed friend and a rat who are worldly and experienced, I found out today that Rath’s been going around ass naked?” Rolling his eyes, Argit finally get down his project. Immediately Rook picked it up to inspect it, throwing the occasional ‘you criminal shit’ glare at him as he did.

“Because,” Argit said, ignoring the other alien in favor of kicking back and relaxing, “Kev and I found it funny.” Ben glared harder.

“You are both the fucking worst.” Argit grinned at him toothily.

“And yet you keep us.”

“Despite my better judgement.”

“We could arrest him,” Rook pointed out for not the first or last time, holding up whatever Argit had been working on. “Just owning one of these alone is illegal in this system, moreso with the intent to sell.”

“You don’t know I intend to sell it,” Argit countered, “could be a present for Kev.”

“Somehow I doubt that is the case.”

“It’s never worth arresting him,” Ben explained for what had to be at least the fourth or fifth time, audibly exasperated- though whether at that fact or the constant fighting between the two of them no one would ever know. “I’ve never seen anybody manage to hold him for more than a week, and even that was just because he was waiting for some injuries to heal before he broke out.”

“What can I say,” Argit beamed, “I’m a master.”

“You are something,” Rook muttered, “though I am not so rude as to say what.” If anything that made him beam harder. Not as much as he did when he was getting to annoy the shit out of Gwendolyn, but a good enough substitute. Heaving a put-upon sigh, Ben collapsed back in his seat, shaking his head.

“I am seriously not paid enough for the shit I put up with...”

Oh, so they changed the intro, but Feedback isn’t on either young Ben’s side or older Ben’s side, he’s just in the beginning

But he still watched TV, or at least listened to the alien equivalent of the radio.

Is Mr. Baumann’s shop the only alien grocery store in town?

If I had a nickel for every time Corey Burton and Dwight Schultz played two supervillains who teamed up with each other and argued a lot in a children’s cartoon from the early-mid 2010s, I’d have two nickels. That’s not a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice within the span of 5 months.

Man. He’s still got it. I love his voice so much.

Which is exactly how long it took for this crossover to happen after the end of Secret Saturdays.

Welp, you failed at that.

That’s not exactly what he was asking.

So what exactly are your grades for your villains?

23 still has the original Omnitrix, too. Interesting.

He’s famous, but not rich, which is important.

That was really funny (although maybe this Vilgax just hasn’t been to Earth yet?)

So I guess Ben took over Billions tower here? Or was it Nemesis tower?

I really like the sound effects used for his electricity powers.

Also, it makes complete sense as to why the Plumbers don’t seem to be a thing here, both because they don’t like aliens and because Max didn’t live long enough to be Magister and establish a Plumber presence on Earth. Although maybe Azmuth, Tetrax, and Sevenseven Twentythreetwentythree could do that eventually.

So were they just living at the end of this one street?

Is it really a nest? There’s only 3 of them.

Basic thoughts: So this is a really good arc? I do like Malware and his team more as antagonists, but Attea is also good, and we also get a fantastic re-introduction to Vilgax in this season as well as two of the best stand-alone episodes of the series which become more important later on. Even the lower-ranked episodes are at least fun and entertaining, and I found things to like about them. And I know that the crossover isn’t great, but I still enjoyed that too.
