And June is here. And June is here with fluffy white clouds and gray heavy clouds and blue skies and bright stars and a glaring sun and a warm drizzle and a cold downpour and green grass and healthy leaves and cool breezes and damp soil and humid air and chirping birds and butterflies and buzzing insects and croaking toads and happy lizards and a breath of fresh air. June is here.

Kucağına yatıp ağladığım günü hatırlıyorum. Annemler beni büyük şehre gönderip unutmuşlardı, ablam bana küsmüştü, yalvar yakar beni eve çıkmaya ikna eden Meltem çok büyük bir götlük yapmıştı; yalnız başıma üstlenmeye çalıştığım, alıştığım dertlerim vardı; bir de sen vardın. Sen her zaman vardın.

Truth in Advertising- Help The Beerless I saw this individual while in San Francisco for a while at a conference in the Summer of 2005. I loved the humor and honesty in the sign. I don’t know if the law was going to bother the panhandler but I hope they just let it slide - after all it is San Francisco. #Humor #Humour #Panhandler #Begger #HelpTheBeerless #Summer2005 #SanFrancisco #SanFranciscoCalifornia #BeerLover #Fun #FunnyPhoto (at San Francisco Waterfront) https://www.instagram.com/p/CLxFrExFTmf/?igshid=n0djq2k3bwu6

Assignment Four: Literature Review on The Idea of Hegemony and Media Representation
Over the last decades, an important ideology that remains very questionable and debatable is the concept of ‘Hegemony’ which means the powerful demonstration of interests of the honored groups or people in respect of common interests, which later become recognized by the masses as the social order, and normal political (Orlowski, 2012). Hegemony is also defined as the power used throughout consent as well as coercion and it has suggested domination across ideology or discourse (Lash, 2007). Moreover, hegemony forms how persons view life by forming rituals, meanings, and values (Orlowski, 2012).
As a matter of fact, media representational forms of application and how media uses its power to portray, imply stereotyping, or discriminate certain groups or individuals according to sex, race, color, religion, domestic, or social background is an essential part of applying hegemony. In other words, “Media Stereotypes Analysis is the identification and analysis of stereotypical images of people, ideas, events, stories, themes and etc. in media texts,” (Fedorov, 2015). In fact, Stuart McPhail Hall who was a cultural theorist defined and analyzed in his book “Media Power and Class Power” how mainstream media uses its power in portraying people.  Hall mentioned that “What we know of society depends on how things are represented to us and that knowledge in turn informs what we do and what policies we are prepared to accept,” (Hall, 1986).
Miller (2002), defines that media has an opposing role in respect to class power. Therefore, media creates representations against some groups or individuals in order to maintain some ideologies and policies, but how does that work? Hall mentioned that this representation is called “Ideological Power” where the media uses:
“language – words, text, pictures still or moving: combined in different ways through the practices and techniques of selection, editing, montage, design, layout, format, linkage, narrative, openings, closures – to represent the world to us,” (Hall, 1986).
Parallel, Fedorov (2015) agreed with Hall that the conspiracy and type structure in media context has certain stereotypes such as “fable situations of a media text action (scene, historical period, etc.) characters, their values, ideas, language, facial expressions, gestures, clothing, image pickup, etc.”.  Some of the above-mentioned techniques and practices no matter whether they are factual, investigative, fictional, or even entertaining, all work on constructing the world around us (Hall,1986).
As media is constructing the world for us Hall mentioned that there is “a way in which the hierarchy of power in the society is reproduced, in the media, as a structure of access”. Accordingly, Miller (2002) mentioned that there is a significance of control and ownership as well as direct and indirect censorship that is created by media in limiting diversity. Thus, media and ownership play a part of exposing and highlighting some ideologies or certain representations to limit diversity by constructing the notion of “stereotype”. Stereotypes are typically negative and provide improper viewpoints over certain social groups; however, some supporters believe that stereotypes play an important role in the social life because they save the intellectual energy when building judgments among others (Zhang, 2005).
Media representations and stereotypes are very hard and challenging to understand. For instance, Hall said in an interview with Jhally (2012) that “The struggle to open up stereotypes is often a struggle to increase the diversity of things which subjects can be of – the possibilities of identities which people have not seen represented before – it is very important”. Moreover, signifying that stereotypes mainly utilized by inverting the “cause and effect”. Accordingly, Seiter (1986) mentioned an example of the stereotypes of the “Blacks” who have differences in education between them and the whites who are more able to have education service. In that contrast, this mentioned example shows a deep-complex effect and representation of the blacks as they are less intelligent than whites by nature because they lack the same education services that the whites had.
The main problem behind the media representations or stereotypes is the generalization, Seiter (1986) revealed that the main problem behind stereotyping is the generalization because media researchers have frequently used stereotype in some poor representations of realism that are untrue and also by the methodology of application that mistakes the clarification to justify their common presence in the media.
Finally, the abovementioned points and reasons sufficiently clarify the need to have people’s recognition of hegemony and the role of media as a hegemonic device that establishes the interests of the elites (Orlowski, 2012). In fact, media power of representations or stereotypes can be very visible among certain groups and individuals by using the previously demonstrated techniques to maintain media power and ownership. Throughout this literature review the main focus was on defining and deconstructing the hegemony or the power of representations that are created by the media.
