i feel like the writers fumbled a bit with Jay’s character but I think it can be easily fixed:

(most of these revolve around if him and leia stay together) first when him and leia first address sex, which is likely to be next season as that’s when she’ll be 16, i think he should reveal he’s actually never had sex because of what his mum says it did to her and his dads relationship and how his dad accidentally knocked up brooke and he doesn’t want to put a girl in brooke’s position but he lets everyone assume he has had sex because of his family reputation and he thinks if he goes along with it because he’ll look ‘cool’. i also think it would be good if maybe he didn’t want to have sex while leia did because he didn’t want to change their relationship, this would also be a good time to reintroduce betsy as his half sister and have jay phone her up for advice because although i think he relies on his mom a lot i don’t think he’d go to one of his parents about sex. i also think theyre dumbing him down a bit to be another kelso and i think they should let him grow into his own, not particularly be the smartest but have a basic grasp of the world around him. finally i think he was a little too lovey dovey ‘stab me in the heart if i ever even imagine a life without you’ with leia and suddenly switched up in the last episode and was like ‘it only makes sense to break up’. i feel like the best way to go from there is have the relationship basically build up from scratch again next season. maybe they lost contact over the year and when they come back maybe nate and nikki are in a rough patch so leia has her eye on nate a bit and doesn’t catch herself being drawn back to jay until suddenly she wants him again and then they can sort of build up again and this time they aren’t all refusing to let go of each others hands head over heels in love but a bit more low key.

I hope Jay's character develops next season. He is one of the more charismatic actors in the new cast. He & Ozzie have the best line delivery. Although I loved Gwen, I found her acting more staged than the rest of the cast.

Overall I liked it but it's a show that would have benefited more by having at least a 16-episode season. I didn't feel like the new gang had time to develop an organic chemistry.

Also, I didn't mind Leia and Jay as a couple. The only thing I didn't like is how their storyline revolved only around one another after they got together. However, I don't understand why people dislike them. Although I get that everyone has different opinions and I love that.

Leia is a 15 year old that is looking for validation from her friends at the start of the season, she was coddled by Eric and Donna all her life until she met this group of kids, she can grow a lot if they make other seasons and I think this show has great potential to explore all of the characters better and make them feel more real while still being a funny show, I think we can see some glimpses of seriousness already and I personally loved it, it felt familiar but new at the same time and it was able to make me love all of the new characters even with only this introduction
