From the author of the multimillion bestselling A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder series and Five Survive comes a new true-crime fueled mystery thriller about a girl determined to uncover the shocking truth about her missing mother while filming a documentary on the unsolved case. Lights. Camera. Lies. 18-year-old Bel has lived her whole life in the shadow of her mom’s mysterious disappearance. Sixteen years ago, Rachel Price vanished and young Bel was the only witness, but she has no memory of it. Rachel is gone, long presumed dead, and Bel wishes everyone would just move on. But the case is dragged up from the past when the Price family agree to a true crime documentary. Bel can’t wait for filming to end, for life to go back to normal. And then the impossible happens. Rachel Price reappears, and life will never be normal again. Rachel has an unbelievable story about what happened to her. Unbelievable, because Bel isn’t sure it’s real. If Rachel is lying, then where has she been all this time? And – could she be dangerous? With the cameras still rolling, Bel must uncover the truth about her mother, and find out why Rachel Price really came back from the dead . . . Top 5 Reasons to Read
There are *a lot* of reasons to love this latest book from YA thriller queen Holly Jackson, but I've tried to capture here my top 5 for you!
It's Holly Jackson. Enough said! I mean, not only does she have the best name (ha!), but she is quite possibly *the* reigning YA thriller queen! Seriously, I must not have even looked at the synopsis when I signed up for this, because I thought the title referred to a teen who'd gone missing--that's how eager I was to read the next HoJay book!
The book is a great examination of how our past traumas shape us, even if the event itself happens when we are far too young to actually remember it. Because trauma isn't just a one-time thing, is it? There are residual emanations that last--sometimes years, sometimes forever. Traumas shape who we are as people, and they affect our relationships with other people far into the future.
There is an amazing bond between Bel and her cousin Carter that I loved so much and just really had me missing my older sister.
The mystery is *so* well-done, I was quite literally oblivious until the moment Bel discovers the truth herself. And I'm not saying this in a cocky way, but that literally almost NEVER happens to me at this late stage in my life when I've read hundreds of mysteries and thrillers.
The book is a great examination of the lengths to which a parent/parents will go to protect their child. What do you do if you find yourself suddenly a single parent of a 2-year-old, with a missing spouse and suspicion on you for their disappearance? What would you do if that missing spouse suddenly reappears? What do you do if you are instead the missing spouse who has returned--do you tell your child the truth about what happened to you? So many points during this book had me questioning just what I would do for my own son!
Seriously, I cannot recommend this one highly enough. And in typical Holly Jackson fashion, it's not only twisty and thrilling but also deeply emotional. Also, she never writes as if teens are too young to handle the horrors of the world, which is one reason I especially love reading her books. Go pick this one up, you won't regret it!
Rating: 5 stars!

☀️BOOK TOUR REVIEW☀️ 🐉RATING:🔥🔥🔥🔥/5 Happy book birthday to Daniel Aleman! His sophomore book, Brighter Than the Sun, releases today and I’m happy to join in the celebration with my stop on the book tour. Brighter Than the Sun is a YA contemporary novel set both in Tijuana, Mexico and over the U.S. border in San Diego. Soledad - she prefers Sol - is the only member of her family with a U.S. passport. Every day she wakes at 5:00 am and commutes across the border from Tijuana to attend school in the suburb of Chula Vista. The daily commute is tiring and the border checks are stressful, but Sol values her evenings and weekends with her family. That all changes when Sol takes on a job in San Diego to feed her family. Sol and her family struggle to navigate a very dire financial situation, but their story is not all bleak. Aleman balances Sol’s struggles with new opportunities and hope. I think 13 and 14-year-olds are the target audience for this book. The story is told in such a gentle way, that despite some underage drinking and teen romance, it could even be shared with middle grade students. Soledad is a well-developed multi-dimensional character. She works hard, but also takes advantage of her new social opportunities. She resents being the sole provider for her family, yet wants to do more for them. She acts as a maternal stand-in for her younger brother, but also aches to be mothered herself. She is often quiet, but uses her voice when it matters most. Immigration and border laws are hot topics. Books like Brighter Than the Sun, which depict Mexican characters with respect and empathy instead of the threatening caricatures used in political debate, provide a positive resource for educating students about Mexican immigration. Thanks to @littlebrownyoungreaders and @tbrbeyondtours for gifting me a finished copy of this book. [Book Tour] Hello everyone!! Today I am really excited to share with you Midnight Strikes by Zeba Shahnaz (@zaybashahwrites), which is a YA Fantasy. The book will be released tomorrow March 14th. *** About the book: In this explosive fantasy debut with a time-loop twist, a provincial girl must work with a roguish prince to stop an attack on the royal family and escape a nightmarish curse that forces them to relive the same night again and again. Seventeen-year-old Anaïs just wants tonight to end. As an outsider at the kingdom’s glittering anniversary ball, she has no desire to rub shoulders with the nation’s most eligible (and pompous) bachelors—especially not the notoriously roguish Prince Leo. But at the stroke of midnight, an explosion rips through the palace, killing everyone in its path. Including her. The last thing Anaïs sees is fire, smoke, chaos . . . and then she wakes up in her bedroom, hours before the ball. No one else remembers the deadly attack or believes her warnings of disaster. Not even when it happens again. And again. And again. If she’s going to escape this nightmarish time loop, Anaïs must take control of her own fate and stop the attack before it happens. But the court’s gilded surface belies a rotten core, full of restless nobles grabbing at power, discontented commoners itching for revolution, and even royals who secretly dream of taking the throne. It’s up to Anaïs to untangle these knots of deadly deceptions . . . if she can survive past midnight. *** You can find the rest of the tour schedule on their website (link on my Linktree). *** @tbrbeyondtours #MidnightStrikes #TBRBeyondTours #ZebaShahnaz #fantasyreader #fantasybook #bookaddict #bookcommunity #readingismagic #bookblogger #bookreviewer #greekbookstagram #instavivlio #vivlio #diavazo #eucitesc #mybookfeatures #over30sbookstagram #bookstamums #booknotes_athina (at Sitia , Crête) https://www.instagram.com/p/CpvafWHLH2e/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Blog Tour: Top 5 Reasons to Read THESE BODIES BETWEEN US by Sarah Van Name! #tbrbeyondtours
Tumblr media
Welcome to Book-Keeping and my stop on the TBR and Beyond Tours blog tour for These Bodies Between Us by Sarah Van Name! I've got all the details on the book below, plus my top 5 reasons to read this YA magical realism novel. Read on!
About the Book
Tumblr media
title: These Bodies Between Us author: Sarah Van Name publisher: Delacorte release date: 12 March 2024
Four girls. Four girls skating home, both sides of the road, fearless. Four girls at the mouth of an infinite ocean, sugared and salted with sand and seawater, the tide licking their sunburned feet. This summer, they’re going to disappear. For seventeen-year-old Callie and her best friends Talia and Cleo, every summer in their small North Carolina beach town is as steady as the tides. But this year, Cleo has invited enigmatic new girl Polly to join them, creating waves in their familiar friendship. And Cleo has an idea, gleaned from private YouTube videos and hidden message boards: they’re going to learn how to make themselves invisible. Callie thinks it’s a ridiculous, impossible plan. But the other girls are intoxicated by the thought of disappearing, even temporarily—from bad boyfriends, from overbearing families, from the confusing, uncomfortable reality of having a body altogether. And, miraculously, it works. Yet as the girls revel in their reckless new freedom, they realize it’s getting harder to come back to themselves… and do they even want to? Content Warning: eating disorder, death, abusive relationship

Top 5 Reasons to Read
She's a hometown author! I was so excited to see a book from an author who actually lives in my town (Durham, NC).
The book explores the unique pressures of being a teenage girl through the use of magical realism, with the girls learning how to turn themselves invisible.
There is an unflinching look at an abusive teen relationship, one that's important for teens to read about because it doesn't involve (*yet*) being physically abusive. It's important for teen girls especially to recognize the signs of a toxic relationship and to have the strength to get out.
There is also a sensitive look at eating disorders, and how being invisible would appeal to a girl who hated her body and had body dysmorphia.
While a lot of YA (and adult) fiction often involves toxic female friendships (which, don't get me wrong, I also love reading about!), I love the fact that this book focuses on the purity and strength that actually exist in most friendships between girls and women. These girls would do absolutely anything for each other, and in the end that is truly put to the test.
I encourage you to read this, and to put it in the hands of the teen girls you know. I think it will speak to them, as it has done for me even at my way-past-teen-years age!
Rating: 5 stars!
**Disclosure: I received an early e-copy of this book for purposes of this blog tour. This review is voluntary on my part and reflects my honest rating and review of the book.

🌲BOOK TOUR REVIEW🌲 🐉RATING: 🔥🔥🔥🔥/5 Welcome to my tour stop for Lucha of the Night Forest by Tehlor Kay Mejia! ➡️Scroll for publisher’s summary. Lucha of the Night Forest begins in the Scar, a desolate drug-ravaged community run by the merciless Los Ricos. At age 16, Lucha knows the biggest dangers to survival are trust and hope. Her father is dead and her Olvida addicted mother is missing, leaving Lucha and 13-year-old Lis to fend for themselves. From the start, this story is dark and heartbreaking. Mejia doesn’t pull any punches and Lucha’s desperation is palpable. The reader, too, finds their own hopes for Lucha repeatedly dashed as she and Lis fall victim to Los Ricos. At rock bottom, Lucha makes a deal with El Sediento, a nightmare incarnate from the mysterious Bosque de la Noche. His power will allow Lucha and Lis to escape, and together they will destroy Olvida and Los Ricos. The author’s skill in world building is clear from the first page. As Lucha moves through Robado, the city and its inhabitants were as clear in my mind as a motion picture. By weaving mood and mythology through this detailed imagery, Mejia truly brings this world to life. The constant sense of unease and danger were acutely felt in the pit of my stomach. As much as I love stories with magic and fantastical creatures, this book’s strength is in the truths it tells about human nature. Mejia explores the lure of power and how it corrupts, along with the choices we make when we’ve run out of options. Themes of freedom, loneliness, forgiveness, free will, and responsibility are integrated throughout. Lucha of the Night Forest is a YA fantasy, a coming-of-age story, a sapphic romance, and a critique of those who wield power. Readers who travel with Lucha won’t be disappointed and might even find hope at the end. Lucha of the Night Forest is available 3/21/23.
