Another one of this girl, this time with her boy.
(I have A LOT of art of these two. I use them as warm up drawings.)
By the way! I FINALLY updated my personal print shop, including with the other pieces I posted this week. And they're having a sale! Check it out if you're interested~

Tam is so refreshing amongst the boys in that he doesn’t like Sophie.
It’s just nice to have one boy who isn’t interested in/ doesn’t have a crush on her, you know?

Hey guyyyyys…
If all goes well, I should be able to publish 7 Days for Fae in the next month or two!! This is my figuring things out book so I am still working on people knowing it exists, which currently means (1) hoping the local bookstore approves my request to order it, (2) letting my therapist recommend it to parents she knows, and (3) posting about it here.
I haven’t talked about it much on tumblr because I was done with the first few drafts before I found writeblr, so if you don’t remember it’s this one:
Tumblr media
A middle grade book about a 10-year-old autistic girl (who also has a neurological disability) navigating life as she struggles in school, makes a new friend, tests her own limits, and has to find a way to communicate with her well-meaning but ignorant aunt. Featuring supportive parents and a b-plot about her nonbinary parent and the adults who are weird about that.
Most of my writing buddies on here are more in the adult genre of interests, but I would really appreciate people sharing this post so that parents or teachers or anyone interested might see it. (Follow me for updates or if you don’t want to be following me feel free to send me a message/ask to be told when it is available)

A gentle reminder that our middle-grade debut novel releases August 6, 2024 from HarperCollins!
THE MONSTROUS ADVENTURES OF MUMMY MAN AND WAFFLES tells the story of 11-year-old Wen as he and his new friend Tanya accidentally bring a basement full of old horror movie props to life. The only good monster in the bunch is MUMMY MAN, a goofy, big-hearted movie mummy who adopts a creek turtle named Frank. Together, they battle the bad movie monsters to stop an all-out creature invasion.
This has been a labor of love for me, the first in a new spooky humor middle-grade series dedicated to my love of old-school fright films, movie monsters, and super heroes — written purely for my inner 8-year-old.
Fans of That’s Believable will find that I write for kids pretty much the way I write here. And with amazing illustrations by the incredibly talented Robb Mommaerts, it’s going to be a great time!
If you like what we do, if this sounds interesting (and/or you have younger siblings/nieces/nephews), and you’d like to support us, a great way to do that is to PRE-ORDER the book HERE!
Thanks for listening, and we return you to our regularly scheduled nonsense.

Considering the success of the Percy Jackson TV series, I do hope this graphic novel series is adapted at some point.

“I am but paper. Brittle and thin. I am held up to the sun, and it shines right through me. I get written on, and I can never be used again. These scratches are a history. They’re a story. They tell things for others to read, but they only see the words, and not what the words are written upon. I am but paper, and though there are many like me, none are exactly the same. I am parched parchment. I have lines. I have holes. Get me wet, and I melt. Light me on fire, and I burn. Take me in hardened hands, and I crumple. I tear. I am but paper. Brittle and thin.” ― T.J. Klune, The House in the Cerulean Sea.

That is why I think the first, most basic step in these matters is to start with the moments of real feeling in your life, when your heart is truly moved, and to think about the meaning of those. The things that you feel most deeply, from the very bottom of your heart, will never deceive you in the slightest. And so at all times, in all things, whatever feeling you may have, consider these carefully.
Genzaburo Yoshino, How Do You Live? (translated by Bruno Navasky)

Cover illustration for Farther Than The Moon by Lindsay Lackey!
This was my first middlegrade book cover and the story hit close to home. My little sister is also someone with special needs so the process of making this illustration was definitely an emotional journey. Lindsay did an incredible job capturing that sibling relationship and I did my best to match it with the same care and tact. Thanks so much to AD Samira Iravani for trusting me with this one!

I love how Sophie really convinced herself Keefe was going to reject her like my girl… you two have basically already been dating since book three.
The nature of their intimacy has always gone beyond friendship and Sophie is so insecure and oblivious, largely due to her relationship with humans, that she really couldn’t say it.
