"Seven years ago we all went through the flames; and the happiness of some of us since then is, we think, well worth the pain we endured."
Although Dracula was published in 1897, some think that it takes place in 1893 because of the way the days and dates used line up. If that's the case, Jonathan Harker's epilogue, seven years later, would have been added around 1900. A new era bubbling with new change and new conventions. The story ends with Jonathan looking ahead to a new century filled with the unknown and being able to look on the past, despite its darkness, "without despair."

Table of approximate life years of the characters in the Hazbin Hotel
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/13P-IBVWjQCxdTBugDELkhP3F_iyFwNqSTmufVLmV__8/edit?usp=drivesdk
Made it because many people don’t seem to realize that a huge part of the characters were alive at the same time

I have just reached the 2000s era of Columbo and it's wild seeing him shambling around in the middle of the dance floor at a rave like a lost puppy on the side of the road

Hello?
Ok important to the story he was on a reservation in the dead of winter. One of his neighbours (his sister/my grandmother's mom) had recently gotten a gas lamp for the first time and was showing it off to him so he decided to get one for himself. My great grandma had stayed over to help him get it set up but was turning in for the night before he was, and so she just told him to turn out the light when he was done.
The issue is that they were speaking Cree and the specific wordage used was more akin to "blow out the light" and so when my great granduncle tried to blow it out like a standard lamp, nothing happened. He then panicked and chucked the thing out into the snow, then went to bed.

Fun Facts About Jira, my world building project #2
Jira can largely be classified as a Science Fantasy world but because of the scale of the Jira project it's more accurate to categorize the different eras of Jira into different genres. For now they are as follows:
Prehistory - Speculative Biology
Surface era - Medieval Fantasy
Dispace era - Underground Fantasy
Early Island era - Fantasy
Era of science - Steampunk
Modern Era - Modern Contemporary
Cyber era - Scifi
Post Cyber era - Eco Scifi

Do your cats make jam? If so, with what fruits? Man, I can’t help but picture Amaranth making jam for the kittens! Also, I’m confused. If a tom is staying without going to the coalition, he is forbidden from mating. But what about Ursinia and Larkspur? I’m confused.😐
Hmm a quick jaunt over to wikipedia suggests that they wouldn't quite have the resources to preserve fruits in the form of jams. More likely, Amaranth is teaching the kittens how to dry meats to keep over the Sleeping Year <3
Ursinia and *Honeysuckle got permission to have kittens from the Matrons because Honeysuckle was an outsider .o. theirs was an uncommon pairing, it doesn't happen too often

it can be hard to fashion a critique of contemporary painting without accidentally coming across as somewhat conservative. Having said that, learning that a lot of painters project photographs onto their canvases and trace them rather than sketching stuff out breaks my heart a little bit

As much as I prefer hard magic to soft magic in just about any setting, I would argue that hard magic isn’t actually magic, it’s fictional science. I will explain.
Consider the laws of thermodynamics. In this setting we call life, they are immutable. Energy can neither be created nor destroyed, and in any practical application a system will operate at a loss because the energy takes the form of inefficiencies like sound and heat. So if you were doing an energy balance equation for a system and you found that it was gaining energy, the only explanation (assuming you’ve done everything correctly) is magic. Something impossible has happened.
So if you have a setting that operates on hard magic principals, then you are establishing a new set of rules for what is and isn’t possible. In a world in which the process by which someone shoots fire from their hands is theoretically measurable and follows a set of consistent rules, regardless of whether or not they are known, fire being shot from your hands is just a perfectly normal and valid expression of the laws that govern the universe. If it is replicable, explainable, and objectively true, it is science. The science may not be real or applicable to the world we live in, but within the context of the setting, if it follows the rules it is science.
Shooting fire from your hands in a world where there is a fundamental truth allowing you to do so is no more magical than air conditioning is in this one.

my brain ? stuck on the idea of bucky going to places or experiencing things where who he is or was doesn't matter :')
yes i am thinking of him in a planetarium in those rooms where you can see the stars, it's a little cool in the room, dark ... holographic stars twinkling and moving about with some recording echoing throughout, talking about some constellations while he walks around. he doesn't shy away from new technology, he is amazed by a lot of it tbh .... perhaps he'll even tell you later on in the night about the stories he remembers his ma telling him. making up their own constellations and stories about them. bucky's imagination being wildly vivid as it is in his dreams and nightmares ...
( but also my brain hurts thinking about bucky in love with the stars, only to have a star on his left shoulder ...? don't talk to me i'm fragile ... )

Consider this a spiritual successor to my Re-Animator Youtubers post, but boy howdy do I love being part of niche ass fandoms that have a surface level audience of cishet guys in their 30s who’s experience with nuance in media starts and ends with knowing Raleigh wasn’t really the main character of pacrim. I’m fighting for my life in these fucking YouTube comments.

I think I’ve said this before on here but. it really baffles and somewhat annoys me sometimes how people hear that a character is in their 40s-50s and immediately assume they should be weak or feeble or less attractive than they are. like. no. i think everyones just been brainwashed to think that attractiveness/health/worth is determined by how young someone is. why is it more understandable to view a teenager as more attractive and capable than a fit 40-50-something year old. kinda wack
