HOW TO DO NEOGRAPHY WELL

Step 1: Base lines.

Aka guidelines. Just do an unfilled rectangle and stack it on itself twice.

Step 2: Basic calligraphy

Choose your brush. Different brush shapes have different dynamics, and different dynamics will wield different results on paper.

Best experienced on actual paper, for digital programs cannot give you the exact right feel of drag when you try to do wrong strokes. Usually, if you write by hand on paper, and it's feeling effortless, then you're doing it right.

Step 3: The execution

You might want to try asemic writing at first, or take inspiration from other writing systems that already exist. Know that it is nigh impossible to create something that never existed before, for your writing system will always bear similarity to at least a dozen others.

There are multiple methods of making scripts,

Engineered

You set up a goal and plan things up before setting up the canons. Usually used for featural scripts.

Post-asemic

Make an asemic array of symbols and assign them Latin equivalents.

Monogramic

Make a monogram - some complex symbol with lots of strokes - and break it into lesser shapes erasing some of the original strokes. Similar to the Combinatorics method. Example below:

Make particles, combine in different ways. See below:

Other useful tips:

Omniglot.com: go there and take a look at how many writing systems are there in the world. This site stores lots of conscripts as well, and you can submit yours if you want to!

r/neography is a huge subreddit that has everything about neography (aka the art of creating new writing systems).

Learn about what kinds of writing systems there are. Basically they are categorized by how much information a symbol carries. It could be one sound, a syllable, or whole words. Though there are nuances, explained on r/neography's wiki, by the way.

Practice. Doodle a lot. You will get the grip of it eventually.

There are 26 letters in the English alphabet. The middle is between M and N, as M is letter #13. If you include numerals, that's 36 symbols. If you include punctuation, that's about 48 symbols depending on how much punctuation you want.

🃏 - What in your world is so out there that it baffles everyone? An example from our world could be whales that are so huge we can't imagine it, or medical advances.

The weirdest thing in Yssaia is probably the true nature of the gods.

Basically all of my gods are body horror eldritch monstrocities. And the humans in my world don't like to think about them like this. Like, the God of Earth birthed humanity in this giant cavern. It's covered in pink fungi that are definitely not made of the God's flesh... or the God of Magic requires your eye for you use magic. Or the Radiant God is a magic fungus that makes you sapient.

The humans treat gods basically how you might treat any powerful person. But they are much more wiley and incomprehensible than that...

CHARACTERS

here’s a teeny intro for some of the characters developed so far!!!

CLIFF

The main character!!

Cliff tends to be over critical, and generally pessimistic. Going through the motions, he’s not interested in “making lifelong bonds” or “finding a soulmate”; he’s here to win the big, long game of life. And he’ll do that with as little social interaction as possible, denying his feelings of crippling lonliness, and hoarding all of his favorite treasures and trinkets collected on his adventures.

MUSTARD

The main character number two(???)

Mustard is the cheerful, bubbly sidekick. Much to Cliff’s annoyance, he’s often humming a song, spewing about the beauty of nature, or engaging with any stranger he comes across as he and Cliff go about their quests. With his banjo never far off, he finds great joy in making up tunes. He’s determined to show Cliff the wonderful things he gets to experience in life.

ANDRII

(Guys his design is incomplete bear with me 😭)

Andrii is the irritable deity of rain. Everywhere he roams he’s followed by a massive raincloud; the storm obscures his vision of the sun, leading him to suffering from an extreme lack of vitamin D, and a firm belief that the sun isn’t real. Eventually, Cliff and Mustard help him see the err of his ways, but for now he’s got the personality of a moody teen. Also he’s emo 🖤

ZEFFY

Zeffy is a reclusive nomad with a burning quest. She has a tight friendship with the wind; nobody knows how this friendship came about, but ever since she’s been searching for a way to speak with him. When she meets Cliff and Mustard, and eventually befriends them, she hires them with her secret mission: to find the whispering grove, a hallowed ground where mortals can speak with the forces. When she’s not busy with the mystical mysterious stuff, she’s working on her karate.

EZRAH AND JOEY

Ezrah (red guy with boots) and Joey (bunny folk with ATTITUDE) are experts in beasts. Also they hate each other.

Ezrah specializes in the Aviary Faction, dealing with great and terrible beasts known as birds. Joey is the head of the Feline Faction, taming creatures of cunning and power. So when a hoo-cat, the adorable cross between a cat and an owl, shows up as the next Engine, there’s a dilemma in who gets to take it. When they’re forced to work together to manage the beast, Ezrah and Joey can’t seem to stop fighting over every little thing. (but they fall in love eventually so it’s ok)

OSWALD

The hoo-cat in question. She’s a perfect little beast. Only a little murderous.

Jira can largely be classified as a Science Fantasy world but because of the scale of the Jira project it's more accurate to categorize the different eras of Jira into different genres. For now they are as follows:

Prehistory - Speculative Biology

Surface era - Medieval Fantasy

Dispace era - Underground Fantasy

Early Island era - Fantasy

Era of science - Steampunk

Modern Era - Modern Contemporary

Cyber era - Scifi

ANTI-SHIFT COLLARS: an infographic

(NOTE: description copy-pasted from DA where i normally post my works. any context that is missing here on tumblr can be found on my DA [linked here and on pinned post] )

[as a bonus to my transforgee-related stuff, i decided i'd post this here as well, as it's a key importance to the stories that pertain to shifters. also, image best veiwed in separate tab]

because i did not wanna draw it on paper and have a super long description here. so, good'ol MSpaint was used instead, so excuse any grammar/spelling mistakes.

anyways, i felt like making an infographic on the antishift collar, since i sense i'm gonna be talking alot about them. most of the information about them is on the [above] image, but i will add some other things here:

1- antishift collars are only given out by transforgee centers/clinics, often as a prescriptions like with medication.

2-the amount of time the antishift properties stay is dependent on how long the collar was on and/or how much power the battery has.

3-certain collar types can me combined, depending on the shifter in question and their needs. there may be additional symbols/colors/serial codes on the battery itself.

4-why one would sometimes need a lock or passcode to unlock the collar depends; it could be because they have a habit of taking it off when it needs to be on, or because they have severe issues that need to be address without them shifting, or because they're a safety issue to themselves and others.

5-oftentime collars are fitted with a mechanism where it'll only leave it's lingering properties IF it is taken off when it shouldn't be (IE torn/broken). the only way to NOT activate this mechanism is just simply unlatching/unlocking the buckle (basically just taking it off normally). the reasons for this specific mechinism is obvious: it's for where the being's shifting abilities presents a danger to themselves or others, or at the very least gets in the way of a normal life.

6-antishift collars aren't always collars, as they can also be bracelets and anklets. however, collars are the most effective at their job, and thus are the most commonly seen.

7-it is a common myth that antishift collars are the same a shock collars. that isn't just untrue, though; it has been proven time and time again that shock collars do the complete opposite, and instead only stimulates/activates shifter's instinct.

8-using the collar to activate inactive shifting abilities is only ever done if the process won't cause pain or major discomfort for the wearer. because of this, it's more commonly used to induce shifting on somebody who already has their abilities.

9-unless it's one that requires a lock to open, ALL collars are breakaway collars, meaning that it'll break off if their is a significant force/pressure. this is obviously a safety measure, and of course #5 applies here.
