The prologue and ch. 1 of Lost Stars are incredibly heartbreaking on a reread when I know how this all turns out. The child-like wonder for space travel and connections between Thane and Ciena are so well done. It won’t be long until the wonder is gone as they (both of them, in the end) realize how much the Empire grinds people down and takes away any semblance of love or empathy.

Ok today we're going to review Star Wars: Lost Stars (or *Estrellas Perdidas* since i have the ESP version)
Note: Includes Spoiler Free and Spoilerfull section, you'll be warned
Tumblr media
It a really old book i decided to read cuz i had it in my house and i heard good things about it.
Spoiler Free Section:
The book is pretty good, the author already had a good number of releases earlier. It doesnt drag that much its very fluid, one or two chapters that takes place halfway across the book feel slow but its not a deal killer. For a YA novel no character feels horribly corny, at least not cornier than a regular star wars character, although they do start introducing a bunch of characters halfway that i mostly couldnt remember.
The legacy characters are used pretty solidly, they dont take all the screen but they arent sidelined entirely since they are pretty important to the story, aside from Darth Vader and Princess Leia most of them only get namedrops here and there, and those that do appear regularly arent particularly famous. You dont need to know who Mon Mothma or Admiral Piett are to enjoy the book. The romance is good enough, its not god tier but you can tell the author has experience writing and she makes it very natural, the romance itself doesnt start until halfway making it feel fluid with the character arcs.
One thing that did bother me for some reason was the cliffhanger, I thought it would be a sell for Episode 7 or some sequel to the book, but its just an open ending for a character that will never appear in another piece of media, and a very unsayisfying open ending at that.
I'm gonna give it a 7.5/10, closer to a 7 than an 8. Recommended for anyone who likes Star Wars and/or YA novels, if youre not into either you might not like it, but its not amateurish like most YA novels post hunger games, it has essence.
Ok now it's time for the spoilers:
The biggest detail that I found odd but I grew to appreciate deeply was the characters never getting over Alderaan and the Death Star's respective explosions. The EU and New Canon have both wanked Star Wars powerscaling so much we forget blowing up a planet is a big deal and this book makes the characters feel that. Having an imperial from alderaan who witnesses the event and instead of defecting doubles down on his loyalty is really interesting.
I also like the change in characteristics from the rebel and imperial main characters, SW usually portrays the empire as rows of rich white people (and a blue man or two) and the rebellion as a very diverse group of humans and aliens so making it so the loyal till the end imperial is a black woman who sees it as a way out of space detroit and the rebel who defects after the events of a New Hope a rich white guy who sees the empire more cynically is an interesting take, although this may be up to personal interpretation.
I did mention that the legacy characters are handled very gracefully, much better than those Disney+ shows could manage, but there was a chapter that did feel too fanservicy, where the imperial main character, Ciena, is the one sent to tow Darth Vader's ship after the death star blows up, it seemed too forced of a meeting between the two, seeing as Ciena ends up in Darth Vader's Star Destroyer anyways for the events of episode V and VI, besides that I didnt feel any problem with the og characters.
The alderaanian imperial, Nash, left a lot to be desired, the book employs a lot of timeskips so it can extend over all the inportant years it needs to, but Nash's character arc doesnt adapt to these, seeing him go from a cheery imperial pre episode IV to an angry loyal commander during and after episode VI isnt handled *horribly* but you dont see the progression since they dont take enough time on him to make you feel the change, I do like that he isnt made comically evil and he does love his friends even at his worst, that is appreciated humanization.
Finally, the post Return of the Jedi events are a bit rushed, you can tell Claudia Gray wasnt allowed to spill too much details on the events since this was released before The Force Awakens, but the insider look on post Endor empire is pretty good, I dont necessarilly agree with the empire surrendering one year after Endor in the new canon, but the book makes it clear that the Emperor quite literally was holding the empire together by himself via duct tape and lightning and how him and Vader dying sent everything downhill, the Battle of Jakku is a great example of it, showing the Empire just getting completely pummeled.
Any character I didnt mention by name I dont have much to say about other that they were either very good if they first appeared on the first half (The other protagonist Thane and other imperials like Jude or Kendy), or a bit forgettable if they first appearned on the second half
That's all

Okay so I finished Lost Stars again and it's being sad that Thane and Ciena haven't shown up in canon since hours. They just. Deserve a break?? Okay??
Also, Ciena deserves a Hera hug. Because I just know if Hera caught wind of her story she would commit an instant adoption.

Reading Lost Stars is fun, but a really weird thing when your brain is trying to make it mesh with subsequent canon stuff like Rogue One.
Like, I can only assume that Tarkin himself ordered that, in order to fuck with the newbies' heads, no one aboard was to tell them that actually, the Death Star was used twice last week.
But seriously, the book is worth a read.

May the 4th be with you!
Happy Star Wars Day, friends! This has been one of my longest running fandoms in some form or fashion. It's one of the few series (aside from Indiana Jones) from around the 80s that I actually watched growing up.
It's got something for everyone no matter what format you partake in. Movies, books, tv shows, video games, you name it. Yes, the fandom can be toxic, but I've met so many wonderful people in the SW fandom that have become real friends.
Lost Stars is one of my favorite Star Wars books. It's set before, during, and after the original trilogy, but that's just the backdrop. It follows two childhood friends, Thane Kyrell and Ciena Ree. Both end up at the Imperial Academy to become TIE fighter pilots. But due to the Empire being the Empire, things don't turn out how either of them thought.

Salty post: why do people complain that a character has “too much screen time”? Like… what does that even mean? Just don’t consume the things that have them.
The best explanation I can come up with is that they would rather that screen time be devoted to their blorbo. Which is fair, we all want more time and more information about our favorite absolutely not real people, but must it come at the cost of someone else’s favorite not real person? You can wish and hope and want for more story and more information, without saying “the people who love this other character are wrong for wanting to know more”.
Stop being needlessly antagonistic.
Stop tearing down what others love because it is not the thing you love.
Be happy for others getting their stories answered, be vocal about wanting the stories of others, and headcanon until it happens.

Star Wars is a dystopia, and why Lost Stars is my favorite Star Wars novel.
(Vague spoilers only) Really, I just love any Star Wars media that strongly represents the dystopia that Star Wars is. Lost Stars, Inferno Squadron, Aftermath, Fate of the Jedi, and Andor all spotlight various parts of this dystopian galaxy.
In lost stars the main characters, Ciena and Thane go from being children on a planet not yet part of the empire, to training as their planet begins to change, to being well oiled cogs in the imperial machine.
It shows very clearly the change a person must go through to be within the empire without breaking. How it starts with the compromises you make with yourself, justifying atrocities in the name of peace. Dehumanizing entire groups of people, with the help of the propaganda around you telling you the rebellion are vicious terrorists that must be destroyed at any cost.
From one angle lost stars is about a very special relationship two people have with each other even though the most turbulent of times but what I see is an incredibly well done description of the internal struggle of two imperial soldiers as the Empire grows and fights to crush the rebellion.
How can someone who is not entirely evil be complicit in the destruction of an entire planet. Of millions of innocent lives. Of cultures.
How do they become more biased, desensitized, and cold to the plight of other beings?
what comprises does it start with?
The time of the Empire was one where absolute control at any cost was valued. Alderaan was turned into rubble, to send a message to the rebellion. Jedha city, a place with incredible cultural significance, was leveled to kill the rebels, the terrorists as they were called by the empire. Mandalore was glassed. How do you justify that? Again, an armed populace, some of which joined the rebellion whom I reiterate were called terrorists in imperial propaganda.
There are so many more layers to the dystopia that Star Wars is but for now I leave you with this. For me, Star Wars as a dystopia is so captivating because it’s so familiar.
The dystopian elements of Star Wars are familiar to me.

As I begin work on making the bracket for the Star Wars Pilots Tournament, there are unfortunately many characters that will not make it into the showdown. These characters were submitted very late in the game and/or only got one submission each, so they are sadly not eligible.
So, ladies, gentlemen, and all other associations of being, I invite you to join me in raising a glass to those pilots who simply did not qualify.
Tumblr media
Dak Ralter (The Empire Strikes Back)
Submitted propaganda: Look he's not really piloting and also he dies in his only scene but I love him
Tumblr media
2. Col "Fake Wedge" Takbright (A New Hope)
Submitted propaganda: Totally would have kicked ass in the Battle of Yavin if he had been there
Tumblr media
3. Thane Kyrell (Lost Stars)
Submitted propaganda: An ex-Imperial who defected and fought in the Rebellion, including the battle of Hoth, Endor and Jakku. He’s also in a very beautiful romance story with his childhood friend and Imperial pilot Ciena Ree
Tumblr media
4. Oddball (Clone Wars/Revenge of the Sith)
Submitted propaganda: none :(
Tumblr media
5. Greez Dritus (Jedi Fallen Order/Survivor)
Submitted propaganda: none :(
Tumblr media
6. Jarek Yeager (Star Wars Resistance)
Submitted propaganda: Rebellion pilot who fought in the Battle of Jakku! Became a racer after the Empire fell but quit after his brother cheating in a race led to an explosion that killed his family. Moved to an out of the way fueling station and decided to run a mechanic's shop instead of piloting. He's drawn back into flying by Kaz when the First Order rises, and becomes a squadron leader/teacher for the next generation of pilots.
Tumblr media
7. Venisa Doza (Star Wars Resistance)
Submitted propaganda: Badass Rebellion pilot who convinced her future husband to defect from the Empire! When the First Order started to rise she immediately joined the Resistance to fight them. Awesome pilot and really good at convincing Imperials/First Order people to defect.
Tumblr media
8. Mara Jade Skywalker (Thrawn trilogy)
Submitted propaganda: none :(
Tumblr media
9. Ooryl Qrygg (Rogue Squadron)
Submitted propaganda: Ooryl is unique in what his contributions mean to his people. There are very few Gand in the Lore but Ooryl qualifies for Rogue Squadron, the best pilots of the New Republic. He also arcs to earn the right to use "I" pronouns, which is extended only to Gand who are famous enough to be known to literally every Gand that exists.
Tumblr media
10. Garik "Face" Loran (X Wing - Wraith Squadron)
Submitted propaganda: none :(
Tumblr media
11. Myn Donos (Wraith Squadron)
Submitted propaganda: Pulled off a nearly impossible rescue (ultimately failed as the other pilot was unconscious and unable to aid) and was the only surviving member of [???]
Tumblr media
12. Wes Janson (Rogue Squadron + Wraith Squadron)
Submitted propaganda: none :(
Tumblr media
13. Derek "Hobbie" Klivian (Rogue Squadron + Wraith Squadron)
Submitted propaganda: none :(
Tumblr media
14. Nawara Ven (Rogue Squadron)
Submitted propaganda: none :(
Tumblr media
15. Temmin "Snap" Wexley (Sequel trilogy and Aftermath trilogy)
Submitted propaganda: none :(
Tumblr media
16. Kazuda Xiono (Star Wars Resistance)
Submitted propaganda: Resistance pilot who joins the Resistance because he wants to make a difference against the First Order and the New Republic isn't doing anything. Very good combat pilot and much more graceful in the air than he is on the ground.
Tumblr media
17. Torra Doza (Star Wars Resistance)
Submitted propaganda: 15 year old racing pilot! Learned how to fly from her mom. Super good at flying and clearly has a lot of fun flying also.
Tumblr media
18. Hype Fazon (Star Wars Resistance)
Submitted propaganda: Super good race pilot who has to adjust to being a combat pilot when the First Order rises. Has a tendency to run from things that frighten him at first (the First Order, added responsibility, growth) but always comes back at the end. Also is delightfully cocky about his piloting skills.
Tumblr media
19. Isabella Garcia-Shapiro / "Pilot Isabella" (Phineas and Ferb/Star Wars crossover)
Submitted propaganda: Okay so she’s the Han Solo of the episode despite Han also being in that, but also I just think this is the funniest technically legal submission I could do I’m not a Star Wars fan <3
Tumblr media
20. that one ufuck (???)
Submitted propaganda: hhrrhhhghgngnhghghggngnghg i hve no fucking clue what any of this means im delirious right now im not even a star wars fan either
Believe me, y'all, I am as upset as you are over some of these not making it in. However, I made the rules and I would just be a hypocrite if I didn't follow them.
BUT stay tuned for the actual bracket with the 32 characters who DID make it in!

13. 14, and 17 for the ask game please!
yay! answering this ask game:
13. What is your earliest Star Wars memory?
okay I love this question. I remember watching ANH when I was like 4 ish? so funny story, like many 4 year old girls, I was DEEP in my princess phase, and my parents got me to watch it with them because they told me there was a princess in it. and let me tell you I felt LIED to lmao. like yeah Mom I guess she's a princess but where's her ballgown and stuff. which is absolutely hilarious to me in retrospect because once I did get into Star Wars Leia was instantly my favorite character and she's still my #1 fave character. honestly she's just one of my favorite fictional characters ever. the other early memory I have is seeing TFA in the theater with my family bc that's what got me into Star Wars :) I was like "wait this shit is fun lemme go rewatch those other ones" and I started reading fanfic and stuff and that's how I got obsessed (although I was a die hard OT only fan for a while haha). sorry that was long lol
14. BESIDES THE ROTS NOVELIZATION What is your favorite Star Wars book?
confession: I have yet to read the ROTS novelization. I know, I know, I really want to I just haven't gotten around to it yet. BUT it's okay because I have VERY strong feelings about another book... Lost Stars by Claudia Gray. if that book has 0 fans, it means I'm dead. I read it for the first time in middle school and I've probably reread it at least 4 times since then. the writing is great, really unique story, I love Thane and Ciena. everything about it is just so good, the angst, the drama, the romance *chefs kiss*
17. Pick one Star Wars line to describe your life, what would it be?
probably "I have a bad feeling about this" because I'm just... constantly anxious 💀 and I regularly have to ask myself if something is actually wrong or is just ✨anxiety✨

Are there any couples/pairs that you really like in star wars but have never gotten to mention or never talked about as much as you'd like? (Ships or just two people who you think rock when they're together)
Have nice day <3
Hi there! Hmm let me think
I like Bly and Aayla (I drew them few times tho haha). Also I am fond of Barris and Ahsoka.
I like Han and Leia. While reading Rebelcaptain I saw few time Luke and Bodhi and I think they could be a cute couple! I also love Baze and Chirrut. And of course Vel and Cinta ❤
Thane and Ciena from book Lost Stars ahhh
You know about Thrawn and Eli but I also loved Ar'alani and Faro dynamic in Treason 👀
Another one that I've been thinking of drawing is Kannan and Hera. I also love Kalluzeb 🙈
As for sequels Rey and Rose is cute! I also like FinnPoe and have a soft spot for FinnRey. I used to like kylux a lot, it passed but I still have some fond memories from that time (and I am currently working on a commission with them which is cool).
I think that's all for now :D
Have a nice day and thanks for asking Anon ❤

15 questions, 15 mutuals
tagged by @viciousland
1. are you named after anyone?
yes, my great-grandfather who had a big impact on the family despite / owing to his early death. his first name is my middle name.
2. when was the last time you cried?
phew, the last time i remember was in late 2019, early 2020 when talking about my grandmother’s death in therapy. i may have cried since, but i don’t remember. unfortunately, i don’t cry easily.
3. do you have kids?
no. i think would like to care for children some day, in some capacity, if i’m ever in a position to do so. i wouldn’t reproduce for ethical and personal reasons, but i might adopt.
4. do you use sarcasm a lot?
oh yes.
5. what sports do you play / have played?
the only sport i really pursued is martial arts. judo, karate, kung fu, kickboxing, mixed martial arts. i’d started training with tonfas and katanas as well, but that was some time ago. i still train with and without my tonfas every now and then, but only solo these days.
6. what's the first thing you notice about people?
really depends on the person and under which circumstances i encounter them. different things stand out for different people. if i just pass them by on the street, it’ll probably be how they move. that is to say, where are they going? how slow or fast are they? do they see me? are they looking at their phone? are we in danger of bumping into each other? do they expect me to step out of the way? quick vibe check to determine if too many or not enough people step out of their way. everything i can gauge without looking at them directly for too long.
even in passing, i’ll sometimes notice when someone’s wearing something particularly elegant, is very beautiful, graceful, or has some other peculiarity. another thing that can be hard to miss and that i pay special attention to are people’s voices and their volume.
7. what's your eye colour?
results are inconclusive. the most accurate description i can give is blue-green-grey with light brown/golden rings around the pupil. people tend to become more puzzled, the more they try to settle on a colour.
8. scary movies or happy endings?
yeah... these are not mutually exclusive, but it’s gotta be scary movies for me.
9. any special talents?
language/s and low-level telepathy.
10. where were you born?
a small town in southwest germany, close to france.
11. what are your hobbies?
reading, writing, singing, translating.
12. do you have pets?
no, alas 😢 my parents have two cats and a dog, and i still think of the cats as ours even though i don’t live with them anymore. pretty sure the cats still think of me as part of the family, too. they’re always really happy to see me. haven’t met the dog, so we don’t have a relationship yet.
13. how tall are you?
170 cm or 5'7''
14. favourite subject in school?
probably english
15. dream job?
anaesthesist (get it? because you put people to sleep?)

Tag Game: Ten First Lines
Thanks to @foibles-fables for the tag. Let's, err, let's have a go at this.
Rules: share the first lines of ten of your most recent fanfics and tag ten people. If you have written less than ten, don’t be shy and share anyway.
After each line, I’ll note the fandom/ship in parentheses with a link to the fic, in case you’re interested in checking the rest out! Starting from the most recent:
Above Scarif, Thane felt a different kind of weightless than usual, as his squadron followed the reverberations of the Death Star's onslaught. (Star Wars: Lost Stars, Thane Kyrell/Ciena Ree)
Major Blyer Towast of the First Order surveyed the world below him and cursed his fortune, just as he did every morning. (Star Wars: Sequel Trilogy, Rey/Kaydel Ko Connix and FinnRose, but it's mostly action and friendship. Can I say Finn vs Phasma?)
It started with a perfectly innocent and sensible suggestion by Lula, after the Nihil attacked the Republic Fair. (Star Wars: High Republic Adventures, Lula Talisola/Zeen Mrala)
"Ahem." (Horizon, Talanah Khane Padish/Nakoa)
Rey couldn't remember a time when it hadn't been there, in her dreams. (Star Wars: Sequel Trilogy, there is no ship there is only the Force)
The rain was heavy among the Sentinels. (Horizon, Chekkatah/Ikkotah & Kotallo/killing the enemies of Hekaro)
“I know you’re not going to like hearing this,” Varl said. (Horizon series, nonship character study)
He still got looks. (Star Wars: The High Republic, not shippy but Sskeer & Keeve Trennis' bond means the world to me)
“More dangerous than the bounty, you say?” (Star Wars: The High Republic, Ty Yorrick/hunting monsters/getting paid)
One night, traveling up the Cut to seek an audience with CYAN, Aloy and Ikrie found themselves around a campfire with a small Banuk hunting party, swapping tales.  (Horizon series, Aloy/Ikrie)
Tagging: If you're keen, you :D Anyone who wants to do this and share out, feel free to hit me up as your tagger. I’ll keep an eye out.
