Returning
"Balmorra-" Tai began, but Ivanye shook his head.
"I was born on Balmorra," he said evenly, "Unless something has drastically changed in the last decade or so, I am aware of the current situation regarding the Imperial occupation."
"You didn't say you were from Balmorra," Aluani accused.
"I'm not," Ivanye enunciated primly, "I was born there, I left when I was still young and, quite frankly, I had no intention of ever returning." Tai seemed mystified.
"Why wouldn't you want to go home?"
"Tython is my home," Ivanye said, as calm and collected as ever, "And before that it was Dromund Kaas. Make no mistake, my parents may have been Resistance fighters, but I was raised Imperial." Tai shook his head, mentally comparing the young jedi's features to various Resistance members.
"Your mom wouldn't happen to be Chemish Or, would she?" Tai asked weakly. Ivanye bristled.
"She lost any right to call herself my mother. When our parents were arrested, my brother and I were given new names and identities and adopted out to good Imperial families. If I hadn't have been force sensitive, or if the Sith had been kinder to me, I might have stayed Imperial," Ivanye shook his head, "You don't need to brief me on the situation. Just tell me who my contact is."
"A Resistance Fighter by the name of Zenith. He's pretty paranoid, so you'll need to activate jammers around Bugtown. Be careful of the colicoids." Ivanye saluted Tai with his unlit saber as he moved to disembark.
"Tharan, would you and Holiday care to join me?"
"Jedi, it would be my genuine pleasure," the scientist responded, falling into step with Ivanye as they exited onto Balmorran soil.

It’s a shame we never got to have companion comments for the SoR expansions. I mean I get why (especially when whoever my character has gotten with in the class story gets immediately cuckholded by the time I see Lana or Theron). But like, there’s so many companions I imagine would have some funny/memorable moments in SoR, the most obvious probably being Scourge, but also: - Tharan meeting Theron
- Talos absolutely losing his mind with excitement in Yavin (I know he does during the Alliance recruitment quest but still)
- Doc being disgusted yet intrigued by the Selkath experiments (he’d probably steal some tech if he can though, same with Tharan)
- The absolute drama that would go down between Jakarro and Qyzen (tbh you’d probably have to break up that fight)
- Someone (probably Theron) commenting on the smell from being stuck in a room with both Bowdaar AND Jakarro
- Kaliyo would probably just straight up quit, and if not I think she’d at least enjoy using the turret in the Rishi fp (same with Tanno Vik)
- Torian and Akaavi would also have an absolute whale of a time going after the Revanites
- Andronikos being pretty much at home on Rishi (he would 100000% enjoy the whole pirate ruse and definitely the outfit)
I know there are a heap of others and I’d love to hear what you think should also be added to the list!

Spoilers Ahoy: Consular Thoughts
I’m doing a quickie consular story  re-playthrough, and ... I have thoughts, mainly about the companions.
I do like the overall story arc until Chapter 3 when everyone except the Selkath thinks going to Belsavis to make friends is a great idea.  Awakening an imprisoned army is a terrible idea.  This is sort of how I feel about my OC confronting Malgus alone in prison recently: I don’t have a choice not to be stupid, and I HATE that.  LS is “Gonna get new friends for the Republic” and DS is more like “Gonna get new friends to serve me.”  THESE GUYS ARE NOT YOUR FRIENDS.  It’s a lot of risk and no guarantee of reward. I’d mark this as ‘a jump the shark’ moment.
The Consular also has the inverse problem of the Bounty Hunter:  BH gets all the lighter companions first (Mako most of all) and then gets DS only at the end (death to Skadge).  Meanwhile, the consular gets a Hunt All The Things Uncle Lizard, Guy Who Literally Lives in the Basement with his Holo Girlfriend, and a politically inclined Murder!Noodle. Consular only gets LS Felix and LS Nadia as the last two companions, which results in some problems -- they’re also the romance options, which gives them the least amount of development in the vanilla game.
To be fair, I think Felix Iresso is one of the least problematic guys in the SWTOR universe.  He’s so kriffin’ sweet.  He’s perfect for a young Jedi.  I totally think there was an attempt at a Jace/Satele parallel here. It’s not toxic and it’s well-paced... minus the fact that he doesn’t show up until Hoth.  Yes, I know what’s in his head...but he’s still a good person before and after the experience in Vanilla.  (I know how he was done dirty in his return -- poor sweet man.)
For perspective, Hoth is when the smuggler gets their last companion, Guss Tuno.  Corso (f!smug romance option) was acquired in Chapter 1, and Risha (m!smug romance option 1) was acquired at Chapter 1′s end.  Akaavi was acquired in Chapter 2 after Balmorra (option 2).  Even then, Akaavi’s relationship feels better paced just by having her a whole planet early.  I know @swtorpadawan and others have commented on how fast the Nadia Grell romance is.  Pair that with her relative youth -- even with the consular being super young themselves, it still feels ‘yikes’, especially in the context you romance her.
I love and hate Qyzen.  He’s a great first companion, part of a cultural immersion experience for a young Jedi.  His hunting for the Scorekeeper works in contrast to the peace that the consular seeks to establish, and yet it does provide a path to that -- sometimes, you do have to fight for the 'greater good’ end result; compliance works for the enemy.   However, on a personal level, I have my political loyalties to Wookiees, and I would cheer for Bowdaar to kick his ass.
I do like Zenith, and not just because he’s voiced by Troy Baker.   There’s a very gritty, realist element to Zenith. After the hero moves on from a planet, what happens to it?  Great, Balmorra is liberated, but it doesn’t fix everything going on there. Should there be ‘necessary evils’ done in the name of politics and managing power? All of the war, death, and other baggage can screw a person up; I read Zenith as walking PTSD, having lived in a war zone all of his life (he was born 3 years after Jace and Satele reported the fall of Korriban, and Balmorra has been a mess since). Zenith is a great foil to a consular, regardless of alignment.
...I have a really hard time justifying Tharan’s recruitment so early minus the fact he does fit on Nar Shaddaa better than anyone else.  I know the developers tried to keep all of the Pub and Imp players running on the same sets of planets in each chapter...but if there was ever an exception to be made, it should have been for the consular, because I feel like Tharan is taking up an important space that he really shouldn’t. He’s not actively evil, but he’s not a pleasant or honest person. Super skeevy vibes once Nadia joins the crew too.   I feel like a lot of time is spent on Tharan with not a lot of growth or character development to show for it.  I think I feel that way because there’s this weird ‘affair’ the consular is propositioned with early on -- it felt like filler from the start.  It’s not as well done as the Pierce one-night stand.  Some of his comp convos seem tacked on or “oh no we have to make more content for this guy.”
Nadia’s acquisition as a companion hinges on certain late stage events, but I feel as if the romance would have felt ‘better’ if her father had let her go to be a padawan as soon as she manifested on Quesh.   Then, she could have grown up a little more before the later events and would have been on more equal footing and more familiar terms with the consular, romance or not.
In sum, I think the consular’s personal story with the crew has great elements, but I feel like they got put together in the wrong order.  To me, companion order would be:  Qyzen, Felix (set him on Tatooine, the opposite temperature cesspit in the galaxy), Zenith, Nadia (on Quesh), and then... Tharan on Hoth because someone unloaded him there? or Belsavis for crimes related to unethical experiments?  Again, Tharan’s convos seem overstretched; the Vandrayk Generator could have really been done in two or three convos rather than the big thing it was in Chapters 2 and 3.

Okay but this was an amazing way to address the similarity in those two names. Of course “Theron” would be the stupid way in “Tharan”’s opinoin.

Greying
once again doing some outside perspectives of when people realise caibos is actually Baby, this time with Tharan (can you tell this is matching up to my playthrough) (also realising that they did imply that he can stop shielding and therefore no longer be weakened once vivicar's done sending out the plague signals or whatever the fuck but that's dumb i like my consequences long-lasting and heartwrenching. i handwaved it for some of my consulars but not for Caibos i am making this boy suffer)
The first time Tharan realised how deceptive the Jedi’s looks must be was when he returned with Qyzen from the Carida. Tharan had seen how haggard Caibos had looked after shielding Master Fain, but it was the greying at his temples as he returned from saving Fain’s daughter that clinched it.
“I see shielding this victim has done a number on you,” he said, eyeing Caibos as he trudged up the steps into the ship. He couldn’t help but feel concerned. He’d thought the wrinkles and occasional winces of pain were due to a life lived well and long. The rapidity of his degeneration today made that significantly less likely. Not that Tharan was any less excited to be travelling the galaxy with him, as the Jedi had certainly proved himself, but this rendered the Jedi an unknown quantity once more. Tharan only liked that in a new piece of tech, and when he knew the unknown could be made known through his genius.
“I’m fine,” Caibos said. Tharan looked at Qyzen. He couldn’t be sure, having not had the opportunity to learn Trandoshan facial expressions, but he thought Qyzen looked upset or frustrated. Certainly, it was an unusual expression for the hunter.
“Rest, Herald,” Qyzen said. “Cannot hunt on shaking legs.”
“I am fine,” Caibos said again. There was a strange note to his voice – higher-pitched and plaintive, like a boy whose voice was still dropping. Tharan’s sense of foreboding grew. “I must call Master Syo.”
Tharan trailed after Caibos and Qyzen, intending to keep an eye on the Jedi. There was something strange in Syo Bakarn’s eyes as he spoke to Caibos, Tharan saw now – and he apologised to Caibos.
“I did what I must do,” Caibos said, as though these were words he said so often he didn’t have to plan them. From Syo and Qyzen’s reactions, they had heard them before, too.
“I appreciate your commitment, young Jedi,” Syo said. “But the Council does not take your sacrifices lightly.”
“Master Syo, we should discuss Lord Vivicar,” Caibos said too quickly.
When the call was done, Tharan did not return to the lower deck right away. Instead, he followed Caibos to the cockpit.
“Is something wrong?” Caibos asked.
“It’s difficult to say,” Tharan said, unsure how to start the conversation. “It has occurred to me there are a few things I neglected to ask you when this partnership began, not being on my mind at the time –“
“Tharan, it’s quite all right. You can ask me anything.” Caibos’ voice was so soothing and solemn that Tharan felt incredibly silly for a moment. He would only insult and confuse the Jedi if he was wrong – but then again, he was a genius. Perhaps not always in matters of picking up on lies and half-truths, but Tharan had never been a fool.
“How old are you?” he asked.
He knew immediately that he had guessed right. Caibos stiffened, seeming to search for an answer.
“Fifteen,” he muttered at last, sounding for all the galaxy like a sullen teenager. Tharan supposed, to his mounting horror, that he was. “How did you know?”
“I wasn’t certain,” Tharan said. He needed now to recategorize each of their interactions. The way Caibos’ eyes skittered over Holiday’s midriff – not just a Jedi with an overdeveloped sense of propriety, but a boy unsure of how to interact. The insistence on handling everything himself – knowledge of his own competence, or a desire to prove himself?
“Then why did you ask?”
“It occurred to me after your most recent foray into shielding your fellow Jedi,” Tharan said. “That perhaps your wizened appearance is not due solely to time lived.”
“I’m not wizened,” Caibos said, sounding disgruntled.
“My dear boy,” Tharan said with no small amount of amusement. “You are now going grey.”
He reached up to touch his hair, positively pouting.
“You look very distinguished, never fear,” Tharan said. “Though I should say if anyone expresses interest in such things, you may want to disclose your age sooner rather than later.”
“Why would – Oh. That’s – I am a Jedi!”
“Of course,” Tharan said. “But if you ever desire advice –“
“Tharan, you don’t need to treat me differently,” Caibos said. “You didn’t treat me like a child before.”
“That would be my mistake, and not yours,” Tharan said more sombrely. “I don’t doubt your skill, Jedi. But it doesn’t take a genius to know a child should not shoulder these burdens alone.”
“I’m not a child.”
That sentence alone was enough to confirm his age. Tharan smiled, reminded all too well of his own teenage years. What a hellion he had been.
“I’ll leave you to it,” he said. “I thank you for your time.”
He was no expert on biology, but he resolved to see what he could find to diminish Caibos' symptoms. Especially if this plague continued, the boy would need all the support he could get. He may not welcome it, but Tharan was quite good at making his efforts so indispensable that even the most recalcitrant of people had to accept them.

sorry i am DEEPLY protective of holiday. nobody takes her seriously or gives her her flowers, not in- or out-of-universe. she's a whole and fascinating character, a one-of-a-kind learning-and-growing computer program on the level of SCORPIO, but she is bound to a sisyphean hell of being consistently underestimated because she's programmed to look and talk like a hot girl. the man she's in love with is the only person capable of understanding her technology and coming even close to matching her intellect, and even he takes her for granted because he's so utterly self-centered. what a complex situation! what interesting stories you could tell about this character!
but no she gets utterly sidelined in favor of being set dressing for her stupid boyfriend bc his quest to win the science fair and also beg for jedi pussy is more fucking important ig
