KinnPorsche: Episode 13
notes: Spoilers! content warning: mentions of suicide Ep 12 /// TOC /// Ep 14 Part I
In this episode: Hot tub sex, international bank fraud, crashing your own funeral, introducing your boyfriend to your dead parents and putting all your plot twists in the last 5 minutes.
Tumblr media
We finally get “that scene” from the trailer. You know the one I mean.
Timecoded Review
1:52 These two.
Tumblr media
dude you abducted someone and tortured them- you kind of are a freak
Tumblr media
unless you're a kidnapping torturer, in which case maybe don't be true to yourself
2:57 Kinn and Porsche move back to bodyguard HQ. They have soup w/dad, but Porsche can't stop thinking about the picture from the end of the last episode- what's Dad's connection to his family? Is it the fish maw soup?
Tumblr media
5:54 Vegas makes lunch and his dad comes in to ruin it
Tumblr media
14:30 Tankhun, I love you. Tankhun is apparently clairvoyant as well as being a fashion icon. He senses something is amiss with Pete.
Tumblr media
17:00 Pete's had enough of the hostage lifestyle. He gets a knife away from Vegas and threatens to kill himself. This relationship makes absolutely no sense to me.
Tumblr media
20:00 Finally, Pete escapes!
Tumblr media
21:15 Tankhun has roped the bodyguards into holding a memorial service on the lawn of the compound. He's worried Pete's soul won't be able to find his way back.
Tumblr media
Tankhun is a very conscientious friend making sure Pete has friends to accompany him as well as an eternally full ATM.
Tumblr media
Pete interrupts his own funeral.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But Tankhun doesn’t care if Pete is an undead revenant or not; he’s just glad to have him back.
Tumblr media
27:23 Kim tries to call Chay, Chay won't answer. Kim looks through old photos of Chay and realizes he is catching feelings.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
31:00 Vegas sits sad and alone in his dungeon. Let's see if I can conjure up any sympathy for him. Yeah... no.
Tumblr media
34:38 Worst idea ever- Tankhun taking Pete out to Yok's
Tumblr media
36:00 Porsche has turned to Vegas for help with the photo- but first he gives him a couple punches for Pete.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This partnership will end well, I know it.
39:50 Pete and Vegas have a reunion that's pretty much what I expect from them.
Tumblr media
43:30 Kinn takes Porsche to his parents' graves, and they have a very sweet scene with Porsche introducing Kinn to his parents.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
47:26 ITS THE SCENE FROM THE TRAILER Y'ALL! They bang it endlessly in the pool, while the Deutsche Bank sign (and probably all the neighbors) bear silent witness. These actors have really earned their pay because we've seen pretty much every square inch of them at this point.
Tumblr media
This seems like a great opportunity to remind you that Deutsche Bank was almost solely responsible for the subprime mortgage crisis that caused a global financial meltdown.
Tumblr media
Deutsche Bank was also found guilty of laundering money for its Russian clients- 10 billion dollars worth in fact.
Tumblr media
"It was a grave mistake to take Jeffrey Epstein on as a client in 2013." -Deutsche Bank
Tumblr media
Basically what I'm saying is that if Satan exists, he would definitely have an account at Deutsche Bank. But don't take my word for it- here's a top ten list of their most egregious scandals- so far.
52:05 Vegas has found some info about Porsche's family. Porsche wakes up Chay and they sneak out of the compound.
Tumblr media
55:57 Wow if I ever tell you I'm laying low in Thailand, catch me at the temple. Everyone seems to hide out here.
Tumblr media
We meet up again with Uncle Bitcoin who tells Porsche that his parents were shot- they weren't in a car wreck. But who shot them?! We don't find out because Uncle Bitcoin himself is shot. Porsche has some flashbacks to his childhood.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
59:18 Dad is accosted by Porsche who demands to know why he shot his parents. Wait- is that something he remembered from the flashback? Dad reveals a secret:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So Porsche’s mom was Dad’s sister, making Porsche and Kinn cousins.
Bonus Round: Dad’s Hobbies
Dad appreciates work/life balance. So far we have seen Dad:
raising fighting fish
making pottery
playing chess
playing the piano

Still jetlagged and couldn't sleep, so I finally watched the KinnPorsche World Tour 2022 concert and here are some reactions no one asked for:
(kind of in order and I had a lot to say about the end apparently 😅)
Why is no one talking about the mom's performance??? Jaw. Dropped. 🤩
Barcode, Build, Us, Nodt, Job, Bas, Perth, and Tong are always invited to karaoke.
Jeff. Satur. I said as soon as he was casted that it would be a huge mistake not to have him on the OST. I got goosebumps when he (and the audience!) sang Why Don't You Stay.
MY KIMCHAY HEART! WHY DON'T YOU STAY ENGLISH VERSION?! No. Jeff took us to church on that one.
Kinn took Porsche to achieve his dream of having a beach bar. Stop! 🥺
Ex should only ever be referred to as "Daddy" out of respect. I was staring at him and only him during the Minor Family's stage. 😂
The Sailor Moon stage proves that literally all of us who participate in this industry, whether it be cast or fan, are a bunch of dorks and I love that for us.
Build and Us had me screaming my kpop stan heart out. Like y'all really going to do Mirror Mirror, Mommae, and Bang Bang Bang like that?! Back-to-back?! 🙌
Imagine being a rich boy who happens to live out his own y/n story with a boy he crushed on in college who looked like his celebrity crush and successfully got said crush to dress as that character for a live concert your company has put on after you two starred in a globally successful gay mafia drama where you two had many many spicy scenes together. Yeah, Mile did that.
Every single one of those backup dancers and singers were amazing. They did all those stunts and quick changes. Like everyone at Be On Cloud is so talented. Damn.
Build: I'm glad my mom could be here today. *Pony bodyguard strip show stage begins*
Bas and Nodt putting it out there that they're single and ready to mingle. 🤣
Us 🥺😭💕
Tong and his mom and him finally feeling like he made it! 😂🥺😭💕
Build 😭😭😭💕
Barcode, sweetie. He's going to be trouble if he ever learns just how much power his cuteness has over everyone.
I felt Bible's speech in my soul. I truly hope one day you realize that you are deserving of all of this love and more.
I started crying as soon as they showed Apo on screen. He has been through so much just to stand in front of us on that stage today. He almost gave us so many times because of how unkind the world was to him. I'm so grateful he tried and tried again. I'm so glad he met these other wonderful human beings and can have this happiness and success.
"Not 5 hours like yesterday!" *Mile sits down* 🤣 It's his company! He gets to do as he pleases!
Thank you to the translation team (and fan translations too!) for making this a more accessible show! They didn't necessarily need to provide that but I'm extremely grateful that they did that for us international fans. Thank you!
OH MY GOD CUMULUS LET'S GO!!! 🔥🔥🔥
(This concert is giving me emotional whiplash. 😅)
Excuse you, Bas, who decided you got the voice of an angel too?!?! Someone marry this man, please!
Build on that sax is everything.
Mile proving that with enough money you too can live out your true y/n wishes. But in all seriousness, Mile is multitalented and seems to be a genuine guy. And as long as he stays true to his passion with this team and not let success get to him, I will always respect and support him.
That has to be some of the sexiest drum, guitar, and bass playing I've seen on stage. Get it, kings!🔥🔥🔥
I change my mind: all of them are always invited to karaoke!
Perth hanging with Nodt by the keys! YAS! Love my besties/ghost ship.
S/O to all the fans who took kpop lightsticks to the show! I see you and love you!
The MileApo movie trailer is fucking gorgeous and is giving me goosebumps! This movie is seriously going down in cinematic history. I just know it. It looks spectacular already and I will fly to Thailand to see it without knowing any Thai just so I can appreciate it and show my support.
YO! TA DJING?! LET'S GO! TURN THIS PLACE INTO A CLUB!! 🔥🔥🔥
BRO! I would pay serious money to get into any club Ta is DJ'ing! HE IS KILLING IT!!! I WISH I WAS THERE JUST FOR THIS!
BUILD, TONG, AND US STRUTTING LIKE THAT!!! YAAASSS!!! 🙌
Okay, please, if there is any sort of higher power or diety in this world, please allow me the privilege during this lifetime to go clubbing with this cast with Ta DJ'ing. 🙏
I didn't need English subs to understand that closing. This group of people truly is something special, huh? And they really did make something special too.
The show just ended and I finally looked at the clock. I didn't even realize the show was over 4 hours long. That was amazing! I really hope they announce a US stop close to me, so I can experience this live. Wow.
I said it before and I'll say it again: KinnPorsche (and Be On Cloud) is changing and will change this industry.

From Oliver's official website
The following is a recent Q&A from my Facebook and Twitter pages.
Q: From Jack Forbes Oliver, the Yellow Shirts in Thailand want to displace the current Prime Minister, Yingluck Shinawatra, and her Administration, with an unelected "People's Council" and have gone to great lengths to disrupt elections and disrupt commerce in Bangkok to achieve their goals. They demand "reforms" pertaining to elections procedures and perceived corruption, but have little to show for what reforms they wish and what corruption they suspect. The military is, so far, taking a "hands off" approach but has not ruled out a coup. Yingluck is making her case for democracy, asking the protestors to vote and to integrate into the Thai political system to resolve political differences. There seems to be no end in sight and experts believe that civil war is possible for the near future. What is your take on all of this?
Oliver: My take is as an outsider. I’ve traveled many times to the country and admire their collective sense of harmony in all things. Makes this recent civil strife almost incomprehensible to me. I’m hardly knowledgeable about the complex interior politics of the country, but my feeling is generally ‘the majority rules’—in other words, live with it. As bad as Thaksin may have been and may be, I would imagine time has, and will, softened his impact. Things change. Do not fracture this beautiful country.
Q: From Ben Bracken It seems everyone successful in film has a connection to some rich people or a rich dad in the film business that gets them in the door. I have neither. I have no money, just the ambition to succeed everyday in a world where 20% of American males ages 25-54 are unemployed. I'm not lazy and will never collect unemployment, so I work everyday at a shit restaurant for $4.95 an hour plus tips (that you never get anyway) and work harder than anyone you've ever met. I have self taught myself to be a DP, an actor, and barely afforded to put myself in school for screenwriting. I don't know anyone famous or anyone's rich uncle to help me get my foot in the door. So, my question to you, Mr. Stone, is a simple one. Would you please hire me? I don't care if it's shoveling the elephants shit on the set of Alexander or getting you coffee. I will still be the hardest worker you've ever seen. I humbly thank you for even reading this as I know you will probably not respond to my question as I've seen the other questions people way smarter than me have posted about you and your work. Either way you're still one of my heroes. Thanks, Ben Stiller
Oliver: This is a tough question but I’ll try to answer it. Just to keep things clear, I had no strong connections to get me into this business. I wrote my way in, and it took many scripts and much rejection until some of them were read and gradually I was able to find more and more work.
That said, when I actually penetrated it as a writer and then moved, after a few setbacks, onto being a director. I found that many young people and outsiders were vying for jobs as assistants and interns, but that the union rules were pretty strict on this matter, and that the best way in was through the assistant directors’ department. After the union regulations were fulfilled, the producer, production managers, and assistant director would interview new people for roles as assistants and interns. Generally speaking the job is a tough one—long hours—and often takes place far off the set around the trailer camps and various messengering jobs. Often people would be frustrated that they didn’t get enough time inside or close to the set (On the other hand, being inside the set all the time can be—believe me—quite boring and I think many people would be disappointed.).
Perhaps the best way to approach this is to work on low budget films as a production assistant, where one probably gets a lot closer to the action. I worked on a soft porno back in the early 70s in NYC hauling heavy dollies up and down staircases in New York City.
When, and if, we do start up a film, we crew up like a pirate ship or whaling expedition for the journey. At that time the producer/production manager/assistant director make their choices as to whom they want to work with. Sometimes I weigh in.
Q: Ben Norbeetz Why in many of your films do you repeat certain phrases, ideas and metaphors. "Kiss the snake with no hesitation" was in the doors and alexander and a motif in Natural Born Killers, your close up shots on a single eye was apart of both any given sunday and the doors, the "world is yours" is in scarface and alexander. is there something all of your works mean to say?
Oliver: Each motif is different and probably for a different reason. I wasn’t aware of the similarities until you brought them up, but certainly, I think the idea of the snake in “Doors,” “Alexander,” and “Natural Born Killers” represents a sensitivity to the issue of fear. That by going through the fear, one finds a courage that was not available before. Jim Morrison was writing about the snake long before we made the film. And of course the analogies of snakes and dragons appear again and again in mythology. Although I walked among many rattle snakes in “Natural Born Killers” and lived through my share of snakes in Vietnam, I’m still not comfortable around them.
As to eyes, I’ve been shooting close ups of eyes for so many years I don’t know which exact mention you have in mind. I think it’s a striking visual. The eye is the window of the soul and often speaks an inner truth to us that is beyond the word. And people’s eyes in general, if you look closely at them, reveal much. Movie stars often have blue eyes, because I think they give more access than brown/black eyes.
As to the “World is yours,” well, that’s a subjective frame of mind, and it can well be true if you believe it.
Q: Patrick Dailey Please give us some details about the new "Alexander : The Ultimate Cut" blu-ray/DVD. Will it have new features, new transfer, etc. Thanks!
Oliver: I can tell you the new “Alexander” is 8 minutes shorter and has some structural changes of significance. I think it’s cleaned up. It’s a real final to me. In the 2007 version I was trying to get out all the stuff that I wasn’t able to get out in 2004. And then I was able to look at the 2007 version in various film festivals around the world (San Sebastian, Taormina, and New York.) After seeing it in public like that, I was able to go back and see some of the things that I had added were not necessary—as well as remove some of the complexity that still existed. That’s why I trimmed it. I’m very happy with this new version and it’s definitely a final one. There is no new transfer—not necessary because everything was beautifully transferred the first time.
Q: Attila Peter Of all the empires which one would you prefer?
Oliver: Very good question. I think as a Roman it would’ve been very dangerous to stay alive. There seems to have been a poison in the air, and in the capital too many Romans were killing each other. I think in some ways the British Empire must have been perhaps one of the best, at least if you were an Englishman! But not a native. The idea of going to Eton or Oxford, joining the military, or being a businessman when most people around you are ethnocentric, you think of yourself as superior. It’s an amazing illusion—but produced some amazing results.
We’re now living in the American Empire. So you make up your own mind. Many are happy with it and comfortable. Depends on your consciousness of our history. If interested see “Untold History.”
As to the best Empire, I’m not sure, but I think the Mongol Empire of the 13th/14th centuries makes a lot of sense. Although bloody (who wasn’t at that time), they had an amazing degree of intelligence. As tribal nomads and outsiders, they brought to the sense of empire a newness and ability to see beyond parochial concerns. And because they were a small tribe they were concerned about their universality. They truly brought a modern order to feudalism and tribalism, and their influence is still strongly felt today in the East.
I also deeply respect Alexander’s Empire because of his respect for local laws and customs—as did the Mongols—and the fact that he did not loot and rape the place, as the English and Americans, in their benign way, did. So I vote for the Mongols.
Q: Matthew McKenna Is there a person or persons who have been a major influence on your life?
Oliver: Huge question. We can talk in the personal sphere or artistic sphere, but let’s say we’re talking of the American political sphere. I’d say Roosevelt and JFK. And in a negative way Reagan, LBJ, Nixon, Bush (father), Bush (son), Truman, and Eisenhower. Without a doubt the U.S. has had its share of awful Presidents who’ve really destroyed what this thing could’ve been after WW2. Please see “Untold History” to understand my feelings. These are people who have directly influenced our life in a very powerful way.
Q: Mary F. Nugent On behalf of WH Wisecarver: I was on the Capital Hill in 1991 when JFK was released. It was surprising to me the controversy and re-evaluations it provoked amongst my younger peers. In lieu of your recent post on the prohibition of being able to do your MLK movie and the rehash of contrived political thrillers in today’s films, do you see a time when real thought provoking cutting edge films can be made in Hollywood again?
Oliver: You’re asking a bit of a rhetorical question. Films don’t necessarily have to be cutting edge to be thought provoking. For example, “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel” (2011) was a beautiful film about older people that really had a point. It wasn’t cutting edge in the sense of what people normally think, but who cares as long as it move you and provokes your feelings and thoughts. I said earlier on another post I really was struck by “All is Lost,” I think that “Blue Jasmine” in its way make you think about people that I knew in New York. It’s a great character study. I think good movies are coming along all the time from abroad, from here, and I wouldn’t dismiss the industry for that. We filmmakers are always struggling to get something fresh and different done. Few of us succeed. But we try.
I think that the concentration on money, as with the rest of the culture, has hollowed out the business. I know that studios are just not developing dramas unless you’re a top of the line director, and they rarely do that without making you compromise. It’s hard to get things great things made in that way. If the directors stick to their guns and develop stuff they really believe in, I think it’s possible to get films made. I know that we have many more markets available to us, as well as different forms of financing, but sometimes you have to assume you’re not going to make much money making a film, and you’re going to live with whatever distribution you can get. So I think it’s a very harsh playing field—but good stuff does get turned out because people are ‘burning’ to tell a story. I sometimes feel we’re the like that medieval acting troupe in Bergman’s “Seventh Seal.”
Q: Nathan Paul Oliver as a filmmaker myself I come across a predicament often behind the camera. Do you ever sacrifice continuity of a shot for your vision?
Oliver: Yes, I often do. The logic of the technician is often in conflict with the heart. Especially as the sun is going down and fast decisions have to be made. Best to make those decisions early in the day.
But as you can see from my editing, it’s sometimes discontinuous, and probably far more interesting because of it.
Q: Matt Higgins How is it that you were able to turn your horrific experience of being a combat soldier in Vietnam into something productive- producing great films that brought Vietnam into the focus of the American mainstream, instead of becoming one of the many casualties of PTSD?
Oliver: Well, I probably did have my share of PTSD, but I didn’t know it at the time because it wasn’t called by that name. I think that terminology started in the late 70s (not sure). I think the fact that I met a good woman who helped me reintegrate, and I did gradually join back into a film school at NYU and was inspired. I think willpower played a role in it. There was much rejection. Remember, it took 10 years (‘76–‘86) from when I wrote “Platoon” to when it was actually filmed, as well as 10 years (‘79–‘89) for “Born on the Fourth of July.”
This is the point of the artistic journey isn’t it? To take the ordinary and the oppression that’s sometimes served up to us, and make of it something celebratory.

So from aside for me wanting to make friends, I really want to talk about some of the stuff about the GMM TV revealed today. First things first: someone on Tumblr talked about how they were putting out so much content for 2022 when they haven’t even finished with content from 2021 which is so true because I know that I’m still waiting for Mama Gogo. Yes they finally gave a release date for Not Me but what about the other shows that these people have worked hard for they deserve to be on screen as well. Unless they’re planning to release multiple series in one day, which I wouldn’t complain about but it’s gonna be too much as a viewer.
I will say I am really happy that everyone’s talking about Krist being in another BL; I know when I saw the trailer I was like, who let this guy back to in after all the comments that he made saying that he wouldn’t do another BL unless it was with Singto? Mike should have headed this with Toptap. Also, another actor to throw in is Gunsmile! I always see them as friends and thought they’d be a cute pairing. Two goof balls in a serious role? Sounds perfect to me.
I am not entirely in love with the lineup, a lot of people are complaining about no GL’s and with being within the Thai drama series community it’s been something that I have been recently thinking about and I do think that there should be GL‘s. It’s not enough to have a side character I think there should be GL drama a series I think that would be lovely.
Another thing is is that I want diversity: I don’t know about you guys but I want diversity; there are darker skin Thai actors! whether they’re brown or they’re black there are darker skin Thai actors! I don’t watch Irresistible but I know that there is an actress who I believe is half black and half Thai (but I could be wrong) but either way I saw her and I got so excited (I’m not gonna watch the series) but I got excited for her because I was I was like OMG she would make a perfect lead because I’m tired of seeing the same people on screen, I want diversity. I don’t think that Jennie should be the token brown girl for GMMTV, not that there’s anything wrong with her but I feel like even Jennie being who she is doesn’t necessarily get the proper representation that she deserves and I wish I could see even Jennie lead a GMMTV series. Jennie is not side character material, Jennie is main character material and I wish they would also give more opportunities for trans actors . I need GMMTV to take notes because what they are presenting is not that great and I don’t even think it’s a complaint that’s coming from international viewers, I think it’s people from Thailand as well and I wish they would produce more realistic content. sure fantasy is great and I’m not saying that there’s anything wrong with that because I liked the Gifted Student series and I’m really interested in their alien series but they’re having, but I want realistic content and that includes diversity in relationships and diversity in actors.
Also with all the music that they have going on I’m surprised that they’ve never done a musical. I’m not opposed to it, maybe people are, but I think that would be really cool idea for a GMMTV movie musical.

This Week In BL
May 2021 Part 1
Being a highly subjective assessment of one tiny corner of the interwebs.
Tumblr media
Ongoing Series - Thai
Second Chance Ep 6 fin - Chris & Jeno were TOO CUTE we got ALL the tropes: parental passing on the torch of care (a rare one), hair drying, hair touching, the prom with everyone was in adorable suits (Tang Yi approves), GOOD kisses, confessions galore, boop (+ bonus pool boop), tumblr now thinks they’re lesbians (new trope I’ve just decided on), claiming, rooftop assignation. Conclusion? This is one of the best BL pulps I’ve seen in a really long time. We are PLEASED!
Y-Destiny Ep 7 - a pretty classic take on the “reformed player/rake” romance trope plus a ton of BL visuals like back hug, messy eater, rooftop assignation, and pillow clutch (a Cheewin signature). Cheewin sure knows his tropes (he should, he started a lot of them and his YYY Special is nothing but a trope parody pastiche, it’s Absolute BL before Absolute BL and A LOT weirder).
Lovely Writer Ep 11 - The casting closet has come to play. I really like that LW is taking the industry and fans to task. It’s hard to watch sometimes, but it SHOULD be a little squirmy and uncomfortable. This was an excellent Episode 11 and we all suffered for it. I hope they can resolve it well in the finale. They’ve done great work so far, I trust them.
Close Friend Ep 3: (Willing or Not) - sports kinda romance, it was cute because MaxNat are cute together, but it reminded me a lot of their arc in Why R U, which is to say, short and somewhat forgettable.
Fish Upon The Sky Ep 5 - am I over this? I think I might be over it. Not into the punching down humor in terms of femme or Sikhs, I don’t like Pi, and found myself fast-forwarding through most of this ep. Mostly I only watch when Mork is on screen. I wanna know why Mork likes Pi so much, but that’s all I’m interested in. Tons of tropes but I’m not even motivated to screen cap, which is saying something. Look, the characters pretty much lack motivation and so I’m losing sympathy.
Nitiman Ep 1 - oh I like it. This is the standard Thai BL delicious trash I know and love. 2 Moons university setting pastiche, check! Engineering students = gay, check! Instant hate vrs instant love, check! Seme vrs tsundere uke, check! Plus the side dishes are tasty. I’m disposed to be pleased, especially as Fish is disappointing. Sadly they insisted on singing, but you can’t have everything.
Love Area Ep 1 - I’m not holding this post just for one BL that I’m not sure if I’ll be able to find tomorrow, so I’ll let you know how it is next week.
Tumblr media
Ongoing Series - Not Thai
Nobleman Ryu’s Wedding (Korea) Ep 7-8 fin - so flipping cute, their little smiles, just GAH. Bit of a dead fish kiss but I don’t care because I loved this tiny show full of soft bois and no one saying anything directly (except our man with the poetry, I hope he finds his true love). Adorable.
Papa & Daddy (Taiwan) Ep 3 - HOW IS THIS SHOW SO WHOLESOME? This is possibly the cutest thing on air right now (and I don’t actually like children). Just GAH! The actual Taipei pride footage. I didn’t even mind all the product placement (I happen to like that bubbly myself). It’s just so cute. Everyone should be watching this. It will make you feel so good and happy. Not gonna lie, this ep is ALL about queer found family and I might have ugly cried over the teddy bear at the end - in a good way.  *** Quick note because I think it’s super important: in 2020 Taiwan Pride was called March for the World. Why? Because Taiwan managed to control C19 better than any other country, they were the only country able to hold pride safely, so they did it for all of us. I don’t feel like they got enough recognition for this.
Word of Honor (China) Ep 34-36 fin - In the end, WoH turned out to be a morality tale about the superiority of agrarian society over semi-nomadic tribes combined with a message about enduring love profoundly undermined by Chinese censorship. It’s like this amazing meal. I ate my fill, and enjoyed every bite, but had a bit too much, and now I have heart burn. Am I upset about the ending? Sure am. Good for them for manipulating my emotions! Was this a great drama? Yes. Did I expect this from China? Sure did. Do i feel betrayed anyway? Sure do. I guess these things are going to have to coexist in my psyche. Along with heart burn. Here have the actual-not-really-epilogue-ending. It's wafer thin.  I’m putting this one to bed. I feel like I’ve said my piece and I want to move on from 36 courses of pretty men in pretty robes full of pretty innuendoes and deadly peanuts. I’ll miss the big fuck off white fan, tho.
My Lascivious Boss (Vietnam) Ep 5 - still very much enjoying it, the secret identity lies are beginning to unravel, tension is increasing. I don’t see how they can resolve this in just one episode tho, so this series might go longer than 6 episodes (rare for Vietnam).
HIStory 4: Close To You (Taiwan) Ep 8 - I demand Boxiang & Zhigang (repping for the healthy LTR and marriage equality) show up in every HIStory installment henceforth. This was a cute ep, lots of good communication & tropes. Still not sure how I feel about the stepbrothers, but can’t complain about their chemistry (waves at TharnType). Speaking of, how awesome that Yongjie caught the man he always wanted, that man is a SUPER bossy bottom, and Yongjie is like ...

Gossip
Crazy rumor that Singto has a new BL in the works (totally unsubstantiated). It’s Still Just Us (frankly, the biggest strike against this being true is how grammatically correct the title is).
Vietnam is messing with our heads and hearts by putting the leads from Nation’s Brother and Most Peaceful Place together into a delightful little love triangle of... something or other. Honestly, I’ve no idea what this is. The actors playing around? A new series? An advertisement? What?
Tumblr media
Breaking News
Mandee (of Why R U fame) dropped a “mini intro” for something that they’re calling Bed Friend series. HI BEER! But I thought these two (James & Net) were the side dishes for Middle Love AKA Middleman's Love. I am so confused. (Get your titles together Thailand, no one wants you going down the Taiwanese rabbit hole, mm’kay?)
Taiwan would call it: Middleman’s Middle Love: Bed Friend.
Top Secret Together got a full trailer with subs. I’m kinda over ensemble pulp pieces (like Close Friend, Bothers, Y-Destiny) but the presence of Newyear makes this one I’m still going to watch. It starts this Friday on Line TV.
Cutie Pie the series got a teaser (fundraising trailer). Arranged marriage, home/office set, Thai BL staring Zee? Sign me tf up! I am so excited, I hope they can make this happen. Deets here. (Thanks @heretherebedork for the tip.)

I'm sick of the BL industry
To be honest, yesterday, I was very close to stop watching BLs - or I should say Thai BLs - because I lost hope things will take a good turn. It was just a thought I had for a second and it may not seem like an important decision that would change my life. It wouldn't affect me much to return to Netflix but it wouldn't mean anything better. The Thai BL industry has the same problems as Hollywood, so why bother what to consume, right?
And it's not like every BL is problematic behind the scenes and it's the same with Hollywood. To be real here, I only watch Thai BLs because I like the language, food and culture in general. And because it's about love no matter the gender in a very romantic and innocent way. I spend years with American shows and watching something from Southeast Asia is very different. I can't name the difference, but it's huge.
But the Thai BL industry has a bit of an image problem going on right now and I'm very curious how things will turn out and if shows like "call it what you want" or "lovely writer" can actually start a debate about abuse and binding contracts because they are immense problems, I'm gonna talk about here.
Casting
It all starts with the casting. Mostly, actors are being casted who are already famous on social media and I get the strategy. The company can generate more fame and popularity of the show but isn't it enough to cast one famous person and that's it? I don't know anything about BL actors to be honest, so I can't say if they were that famous before or not but even if they weren't, then they are mostly casted for a supporting role and are not the protagonist or his love interest. Mostly, I know the actors from somewhere else and it's sad and unfair for the other actors who don't even stand a chance to get the main role. If you are not famous, you won't get there, and that's clearly inequal.
Binding contracts
So, these people get casted and are now part of the crew. The next problem is the contract they have to sign. I have never seen one of those, so I can't say anything credible about it, but what I can figure out is: the contracts must be very long and detailed. The contracts are the real problem here because they put up boundaries and build lines that shouldn't be crossed that are unnecessary and even though the actors can hide it, something seems off. My favourite example is Saint because he seems nice and all but I always have the feeling he fakes everything and I can't tell were his true self begins and his professional one ends. I find it kind of creepy because I can't figure him out and feel like he's broken or at least, hates his job sometimes. I don't know. These contracts lead actors to fake their whole life, lose their identity and turn them into a**holes. It really makes me sad because these people are obviously scared of saying something wrong because then they would be over. What kind of working atmosphere is that? It's not healthy - that's clear - and the actors are always very distant with each other. It's obvious the things they say, do and laugh about are only said, done and funny when the camera is rolling and it's something I really don't like. I deteste fakery and that's why I don't like certain BL casts because I feel like they are pretending so much they don't like each other off camera at all.
Certain people have too much power
People in high positions definetely have too much power over the actors, directors and the whole crew itself. It's not only the binding contracts. What the trailer of "call it what you want" already addressed was way more than that. They are controlled and surpressed. Simply put, the companies and CEO's don't always see them as humans with a soul. It's really extreme and I know, it's not like that with every BL but I also know, it's the case with enough of them. Tracking your phone, getting you fired if you save the wrong number and keeping you apart from the outside are just the three things mentioned in the trailer.
Of course, there's also the problem with sexual harrasment and it's not only a problem, it's a challenge a whole generation has to face. After watching the video "BL: Broken Fantasy" I felt really stupid because someone who was interviewed was saying the BL industry is acting the same as Hollywood, and of course it does but I never saw it this way. Now I feel stupid for being blinded by all the promotion, shiny music videos and happy interviews because in the end it's also just a film industry, so why would things be different behind closed doors? Then of course, sexual harrasment happens a lot and even abuse. I'm even more mad now that I think about all the BL actors who also never spoke up. There must me billions of people worldwide... anyway, turning back, I just wanted to say that CEO's of production companies in Thailand can be as pathetic as the ones in America and sexual abuse is still a thing no one talks about.
Atmosphere on set
As a BL actor, you go to the casting because you personally have no problem with kissing another man. What still surprises me is actors saying they were not as open-minded when they started filming but understand the conflict much better now after they were acting it out and can even imagine falling for someone with the same gender. I thought every one of them doesn't care, but I guess they do.
What really disgusted me in the video "BL: Broken Fantasy" was when this director was talking about the camera man turning away to vomit when the BL leads would kiss. I have no words for how disgusting, inhumane and respectless this is. He even said, the whole crew tends to be homophobic which is like what the f**k?! And he added, he was surprised when he was shooting a film with a japanese crew that offended no one which is so low standard, it's sad. No wonder the atmosphere between the actors and crew behind the scenes looks tense and not that close.
Fanservice
So, here's the problem I've been thinking about for some time now because it's the most viewable one and appears everywhere. I hate fanservice. I just want a normal boring interview with the actors and I'm happy but I stopped watching interviews with BL leads because it's packed with so much wannabe-cutesy fanservice, it's actually uncomfortable. What I don't like about it is that it looks so forced and fake. You can tell just by watching they are only doing it because the contracts say so. They gain money - and I don't believe it's just a bit - to make the fans happy. It's just a part of the promotion but it leads to many problematic situations with fans. I'm not saying Hollywood is much different. During the red carpet shows are so many screaming, crying and fading fans, it's ridicolous. I'm not such a fan and will never be because I don't sympathize with this kind of cult. But at least I feel like Hollywood kind of protects their stars more. In the BL industry the fans can get very close and the promotion is more about the shipping couple than the show itself which causes these big personality cults I already addressed here.
I have two examples: MaxTul and SaintZee. They are not so different when it comes to fanservice but their chemistries are not comparable. MaxTul seem to care about each other whereas SaintZee don't seem to be very close. MaxTul have fun and much of it is fanservice which gets cut into cringey edits on YT but they have a vibe. They look each other in the eyes and know what the other thinks - at least, I have the feeling they do. Their whole friendship looks honest and healthy. In contrast, SaintZee were pretending a lot. It's pretty clear, it was all for the fanservice. They touched so much, it hurt because they wanted to please the production company and follow their contract and out of fear to do something wrong, they overdid it. And then, they had a fallout which wasn't very surprising, because I believe the atmosphere between them was very tense and all that touching was too much.
End
In conclusion, I hope things will change but it's such a long process, it's gonna take years. Now the BL industry doesn't look very bright in my eyes and it's gonna take a while to convince me otherwise. So, I decided for myself that I can consume the shows but won't care about the promotion any more.
I was too close to quit watching yesterday to just ignore it. I got mad again while writing this so I'm just gonna say, I will definetely watch "lovely writer" and "call it what you want" until the end because I wanna know more about this. I wanna know more about what happens behind the scenes.
Anyway, I hope I haven't turned your mood down 🙃

I just watched Raya and the Last Dragon. I second a lot of my original criticism of the “culture inspiration” (TM) from the trailers/teasers, heh. Context doesn’t make them better.
It’s really all feel like it’s just thrown together without thought. The little tidbits such as food is ok, the wayang-esque puppet show is ok. I had liked the Sisu summoning ritual thing. The folded dragon map does resemble a “lontar” too, which is what people used to write on. But the overall set and costume design looks so hodge podge and visually odd.
Like, somehow I almost feel that I’d be less baffled if they DIDN’T advertise the research and just let it be fantasy. I would be more “ooh I recognize this reference” at the good refs rather than just feeling confused and upset over what ends up being weird/wrong/less than ideal.
For example, uh... forgot what Namaari’s kingdom is... the architecture looks borrowed from Thailand but the Queen and Namaari’s hair is like... eh?? Everyone else are wearing more traditional/ethnic looking hairbuns, but the royalty are just randomly different. It’s pretty common in anime or Sengoku games, where the random NPCs are era-appropriate but the player characters and/or heroes has wild and fancy anime hair. It’s WEIRD here, though.
The kingdom with the purple theme. The purple is so overwhelming and it just looks comically absurd. The stilt houses on the river is okay, it’s a thing shared across the different SEA countries, but the lanterns felt weird. Like, it just felt a bit... “too Chinese”? I know some mainland-SEA countries like Vietnam has stronger Chinese influence thanks to proximity, but you know...
Speaking about “too Chinese”, the jade coins are a bit ???? too. Like, of all things, why? What part of SEA culture was that inspired by? Or is that part of the fantasy? Why not metal coins? In old Indonesian kingdoms they had gold coins. Honestly I’d almost prefer plain rock coins than jade, because it just looks funny.
Still don’t like the furry dragons. Like, seriously, why tho? You can make furry plushies if you want to, doesn’t mean the actual dragon in the movie has to be furry too. And the water-jumping. Okay, those aren’t ice, just “magical solid water” that can be jumped on. It still is very reminiscent of Elsa’s ice jumping, and they really shouldn’t have made that a thing. What is even the purpose? There’s nothing sitting on some high, fragile precipice of a mountain that requires that technique to reach. Sisu and the other dragons just do it for aesthetic shots. What, did you think SEA dragons aren’t cool enough if they can’t fly?
I mean, see, this is what makes the weird “Chinese” stuff feel very bizarre is because... the real SEA has always had trade relations with China, India, and Arab. THAT’S where the shared culture and tradition come from. Whereas Kumandra... well, maybe there is a pseudo-China or pseudo-India in the universe there that lent them the influences, but since we’re not told, it’s just there for visuals that ends up feeling out of place.
Also, a bit of a shame that the kingdoms are inland, and there’s a lack of seafaring cultures. The island nations of SEA has very strong seafaring traditions. See, the story of Makassar trepang fishers who sailed all the way to Australia back in the ye old days. I guess they don’t want to overlap with Moana? Since “seafaring” is the theme of that movie.
I guess the question is how to build a fantasy universe with ethnic influences that doesn’t just end up looking super wrong, huh? Where and how do you put the fantastic spin, without bastardizing the original inspirations or butchering them in the “fantasification”? Like... there’s definitely shared culture among nations, but how much mix and match is ok? Can you even do that at all? Or do you have to actually map each fantasy culture to a real life equivalent, or else it would be disrespectful? I honestly don’t know either.

The rise and fall of the Twilight-Craze
Let me tell you about my first encounter with Twilight - it was a “read”-week in 6th or 7th grade, and I picked up a very new book at the library of my elementary school. So I started reading it. I remember reading the first chapters, but never finishing it. I remember how I found the protagonist to be very whiny, and very disrespectful too.
Also, at this point I also didnt know that this would be a vampire-novel, as the backcover of the book - this being the first danish translation/edition of the novel - never mentioned it.
Anyway, afterwards, I forgot about it pretty quickly.
Flashforward to a year later.
I´m over in Germany, visiting my grandmother, and I buy some books - the german translation of Twilight being among them - and then I start reading it later in the fall. While I did think that the name Stephenie Meyer sounded familiar, I could not remember why. At this point I should also mention that 6th and 7th grade was a very traumatising period for me, and I had by that point pretty much blacked much of that period out of my mind, focusing on the now and future. And yeah, I was 14, so there was still much to come.
Anywway, as I start reading the novel later in the fall, I suddenly remembered that one book I never finished back in 6th or 7th grade - and am kinda amused. Yeah, anyway, I still found Bella Swan to be a very whiny girl, and I actually liked the novel, and honestly did not think that much about it afterwards. Though I did learn not long after that a movie would come out later that year, I - while I was looking forward to it - did not imagine that it would start a big craze, that I later learned from the Wikipedia article of the South Park episode The Ungroundable to be named “The Twilight Craze”.
I enjoyed the movie, actually - I watched it with my best friend (who went on to become the biggest Twilight fan I know, at least for as long as the craze lasted) and it is a memory that I like to think back on. I still think that both Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson did a good job in these movies - though more on that later.
So, flash forward to the fall of 2009, where I am in Thailand with my parents. On the way to Thailand - as we went through Germany -  I bought the subsequent books New Moon and Eclipse. I read these books very quickly, and my mom as well.
New Moon - and I´m talking about the novel here - did introduce some rather interesting ideas, such as the Volturi. One thing, however, already stuck me back then - it was the fact that Meyer completely distorted the actual folklore of an actual native american tribe, the Quileutes, for her own way, and it seemed really disrespectful back then already. And as for the Volturi, despite being mentioned early on, we didn´t really get that much from them - though as for the climax of the novel, I was pretty disturbed by the fact that the Volturi let in hundreds of tourists into their palace just to eat them after closing the doors. While that scenario is already pretty much horrifying, what really disturbed me was that Bella - and by extension, Stephenie Meyer herself - immediately forgot about it after it happened and moved on with the plot. That, and another thing - are we really gonna accept it as okay that one from Jacobs tribe physically hurt and mutilated his wifes face after wolfing out, because he feels sorry and he forgave her? It already seemed really wrong back then.
What I also noticed was the fact that Bella Swan essentially only hung out with Jacob so she could play with his feelings, and so she could get into dangerous situations so she could get these hallucinations of Edward. With that said - I also could not really see what was so special about the relationship between Bella and Edward.
Then I read Eclipse - and one thing stuck out to me there: it´s the fact that the mentioned backstories of the individual Cullens - Carlisles past with the Volturi, Rosalie seeking out and killing her rapists, Jaspers backstory from the american civil war (as I later learned from Das Mervins sporkings, she got a lot of stuff wrong there, to put it mildly), or how Alice was abandoned by her family in an asylum and pretended she was dead, where she ultimately got turned - all of these backstories are a hundred times way more interesting than the perks of being Bella Swan and her love life!
Also, I immediately knew that the vampire army was a work of Victoria, and that it was to kill Bella - only upon reading the sporkings by Das Mervin did I learn that it was supposed to be a “twist”.
On the way back from Thailand I bought Breaking Dawn shortly before leaving Germany, but I never finished it - you know why? Because some of my classmembers spilled the tea on the spoiler that Jacob imprints on Bellas daughter. I was just grossed out. I later learned that the book is what turned many fans off Twilight - and the imprinting thing was one of the reasons why, in many cases.
Anyway, then a few weeks after returning from Thailand, I went in to see New Moon with two of my best friends, and it is a memory that I cherish very much.
And that was the time when the Twilight Craze really, really went off - with all the cringeworthy “Are you Team Edward, or Team Jacob?” stuff, and how out of touch with reality some of the fangirls seemed - there were apparently some who really believed that Edward Cullen exists, and so much more. I still didnt think too much about it, as I had other things to look for.
Though - despite liking the movies and the books at the time - I really, really enjoyed a lot of the parodies on the Twilight Craze, like this one from Smosh. The thing is, that Twilight became the probably most parodied thing in the 2009-2010 period. And that may have been one of the things that killed the craze - but more on that later.
Then, in the summer of 2010 - one of the best summers of my life - I was in Miami with my family. And then my best friend and I got to watch Eclipse in a gigantic cinema in a very big mall in Miami Beach - that was unforgettable. And I also remember that I wasnt the only one who laughed over Taylor Lautners overacting. Good to know.
During that same summer, I remember then seeing a new book by Stephenie Meyer in the bookstores - “The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner”. As this was before my friend and I saw the movie, I myself did not think that much about it; but I then later realised that Bree was the girl killed by the Volturi at the end of Eclipse, and that the novel - as the title already states - was about her time with the army of newborns. That sounded like an actual interesting plot. Shortly before watching Eclipse, the trailer for “Vampires Suck” came out - and the trailer was very funny, way more funny than the actual movie.
So....Eclipse was a huge hit that summer. But you know what that also was? The end of the Twilight Craze itself. In fact, it can also be compared with another contemporary hit of the 2009-2010 period - Avatar. While that was the biggest hit of the winter of 2009-2010, as soon as spring started, everyone forgot about it. And while Eclipse itself got a lot of mixed reviews, like the preceding movies of the franchise, it simply was the end of the craze itself.
I think here are some of the factors:
Twilight was pretty much EVERYWHERE in the media in 2009-2010, not only from advertisement, product placements, and posters, but also from parodies, not to mention how often Twilight was mentioned in actual news broadcast. In other words, people got tired of it - not just the people who werent even fans of the franchise in the first place, but also more moderate fans, like I considered myself then. And yeah - now thinking back on it, I was also pretty tired of seeing Twilight everywhere even before Eclipse was released in the cinemas.
And another thing is this: The Second Life of Bree Tanner. While the novel was released in early June of 2010, mere weeks before the movie came out, it was very bestselling, because of the Twilight Craze. And the reason why it was released was most likely because even Stephenie Meyer herself had a feeling that the craze soon would end, and had to publish something Twilight-related in advance, so she could be talked about again. Officially, the novella started as a short story to tie in with her illustrated guide for Twilight.
I bought the book later that summer while in Germany - and I found it not very well written, and forgot about it very shortly afterwards. Even my friend found it forgettable. I recently read the sporking of the book on Das Mervin to be reminded of what actually happened - and boy, does it suck! And here is my point - many Twilight fans probably realised with that book that Stephenie Meyer isnt that good a writer. (A lot of people had the same reactions to “The Host” - including me, who never finished the novel because of that)
And then, as soon as the summer of 2010 was over, Twilight was over. People had enough.
I know that the final film was - because of Harry Potter - split in two parts (a decision that was continued when The Hunger Games were made into movies, and a decision that ultimately killed the Divergent franchise), and was released in the winter of 2011 and 2012. I watched both of them - and I was immediately struck by this in 2012: While there of course were trailers and posters for these films, there was simply not the same exposure to the franchise as back in 2009-2010.
And by the time of the release of Breaking Dawn part 2 in the winter of 2012, I had already been redpilled regarding Mary Sues, and had a field day of counting all the Mary Sue points in the movies.
Yeah, Bella Swan is one of the biggest Mary Sues in existence, and was created as a way of Stephenie Meyer wanting to live out an idealised version of her highschool years.
That, and Stephenie Meyer isnt that great a writer - just read the sporking on Das Mervin.
During the reading of the sporkings, I also realised the way how Meyer demonises every blonde - from Lauren to Rosalie, and how Leah Clearwater is demonised for being an independent woman who doesnt bow down to Bella Sue and who actually does something, unlike Bella Sue.
Now, onto the thing with Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson. Both are very good actors, and I think it is sad to see how haunted they were in the past decade of Twilight. Many have accused Stewart of being a bad actress because of Twilight (not to mention that they haven´t seen her brilliant performance in Speak) - I disagree. Kristen Stewart showed what a spoiled, ungrateful and dull Sue Bella is, and Pattinson what a creepy, controllable Stalker Edward is. And I´m now especially happy to see how especially Pattinson is recovering now, as Kristen Stewart did get to prove herself in movies like Camp X-Ray.
Anyway, that was my rant on the Twilight Craze.

A brief summary of Rob’s Top 5 Holiday Disasters:
(Go listen to the podcast though! Rob is a very entertaining storyteller. 😂 ) 5. The Damiani’s used to go on holiday in Spain a lot since their granddad lives there, so it’s cheap. Rob is the eldest of their three sons and was about 12 at the time. He got really sick and his parents told him to pull himself together. As the eldest, he had a responsibility for not ruining his brother's holidays. He even had to throw up into a toy bucket, alone on the street. His parents didn't want him to sit with them in a restaurant to not upset other people. When it got really bad they finally took him to the hospital. Turns out he had appendicitis and his appendix was about to burst, which is life-threatening!
4. This story happened at the end of Warped Tour last year (2018). Rob and some friends were out late, so they were locked out of the trailer park. Most of the group went under the gate, through the mud. But Rob, Matt and a girl called Caroline looked for another entrance. They couldn't find one even after a long time of searching. So Rob helped Matt and Caroline over the fence, but her pants got caught and ripped off. Knowing about his clumsiness, Rob didn't want to risk climbing the fence and kept searching for another way in. He walked through nettles for hours and finally got really emotional. It was the last day of the tour and he wanted to spend it with his friends! So he ended up climbing the fence anyway, without getting hurt too much.
3. Back to the family holidays in Spain a couple of years later. Rob was about 14 at the time. They wanted to try out pedalos, but their dad thought it's a waste of time and money as it's pretty expensive. Rob, his brothers and their mum went anyway but they got too close to the shore and the pedalo got stuck on rocks. Rob and one of his brothers had to free it while almost getting squashed and cutting their feet on the sharp rocks. When they finally freed it, they had to pedal back quickly (I think they had to return it in time), so they left Rob's brother behind. He started crying for his mum and even jumped into the water. Mama Damiani was ruthless and just said “keep pedaling” to Rob. And his poor brother even got stung by some jellyfish in the water.
2. When he was about 18, Rob went on a lads trip to Greece. They went to a shady foam party in a club called “Club Sex” (yes, this is where the old band name came from 😂 ). The floor was pretty slippery and they only wore swimming trunks. One of his friends had the “great” idea to pull Rob's pants down. As he tried to put them back on, he slipped and knocked himself out. So Rob was lying on the floor unconscious and naked in front of all these people. As he regained consciousness, he saw everyone laughing at him, but then a look of horror appeared on their faces. Rob was bleeding pretty badly from his head and it looked even worse on the wet floor. So he had to stay in hospital over night and was really relieved when they finally let him go.
1. Rob's worst holiday disaster happened in Thailand. He enjoyed chilling in the sun all day and getting a tan, as it looks healthier. But the holiday was almost over and his legs weren't tanned enough, so he slightly started panicking. He decided to leave the sunscreen away (don't ever do that kids!). Of course that ended pretty badly as he got a sunstroke. He got really sick, was hot & cold, sweating and constantly throwing up. His friends went out and left him alone in the hotel room, where everything was pretty small. Unfortunately Rob is a tall, clumsy guy, so he ran into the door frame while hurrying to throw up into the toilet – and knocked himself out! When his friends returned they found him lying naked (as it was so hot) in his blood and vomit. Luckily they were good friends and took care of him. But then Rob mixed up the dates (maybe because of the head injury) and missed his flight back home. And so he also missed the radio interview with Zane Lowe on Don Broco's first single, which is a pretty big deal.

Bits and things about movies and TV shows in 2018
It is a rather similar post to what I have done back in 2016, and I thought it would be a great way how to re-start /for at least a fifth time/ to write and share some stories of life, movies and some other things as well.  Movies and TV series have always been something that I enjoy watching. I love it for many reasons, starting with the fact that you can see a form of art displayed on the screen. Imagine how many people it took to put the whole thing together. Actors, directors, designers (costume and set), producers, editors, sound engineers and way more. Movies and TV shows in a way also provide a great escape for those who need it. You can let your imagination flow with the movie and explore something above your own life. Movies and TV shows can also change our perception of life. I am not saying it alters your life completely, but I do believe that a great idea caught in a movie can be taken home with you and it shifts your understanding at least a little bit.
This is not a list of the TOP 10 movies, created by the academy or a scientifically proven list, this is just me as a friend and a lover of the arts sharing my own favourite movies and TV shows of 2018. A fair warning ahead, these are not just movies and TV shows released in 2018, but I have included older ones, which I have seen and enjoyed in the past year. I have been nice and I linked all the titles with the IMDb pages as well. /Enough blah, blah and lets start!/
The Voices (2014) - /Told you that I ain't sharing just 2018 love affairs/ This one definitely has flown under the radar by many. Ryan Reynolds is in it, so do you need any other reason, why not to watch it? It is a very psychedelic thriller comedy. It definitely made me a bit sad the next day /and slightly relieved/ that I can not understand what my animals are trying to say.
Tumblr media
Black Panther (2018) - Of course this is on my list, not just because I am a huge fan of the Marvel cinematic universe, but also because this raised a new bar for superhero story telling. I know that a lot of people did not like the movie, it was not their taste. That is totally fine, cause we are so different, with so many opinions. But for me the movie felt great because it was engaging both on the action, I loved the story how Black Panther came to be and it was filled with color. Also in my opinion the African style was very nicely added within the clothes and each tribes specific culture. Additional reason why it is one of my 2018 favourites is also due to what it did on a social level. If you have no idea, what I am talking about, check this article. Wakanda forever!
The Office (2005–2013) - As I had no job for a month and a half, between writing job applications and sleeping /officially we stick with this story/, this was what I devoted my whole attention to. For sure this is not everyones cup of tea, but as a person who quit working in a big corporation I could relate to a lot of things within the show. Also I started daydreaming of having a similar love story as Jim Halpert and Pam, but more in reality I was driving towards being Stanley or even Creed. Not sure what I am talking about, again? Just check out the show. The jokes are still very relevant and the corporate environment is still the same.
Avengers: Infinity War (2018) - /Give them all the Oscars/ A second of many entries from the Marvel universe. Not everyone likes superhero movies, but for those who do, I think this one is one of the top ones. The sheer pressure throughout the movie and the rather dark ending of it brought many people to shed a tear. /Me included/ What in general I love about superhero movies lately is the fact, that it is not all fun and games, and being the best. It is portrayed as a challenge that actually in the end destroys you. Speaking in philosophical terms, it is the same as being nice and open to everyone in these days. Sooner or later you will burn out for the sake of others. Back to the movie, it is also amazing that they managed to connect so many characters together and bring a good story with them all. Marvel has definitely worked this out, and the result of Captain America: Civil War already showed it.
Lady Bird (2017) - Yes, standing next to superheroes there is also this film. The simple question - do you remember how you felt when you were seventeen? When I look back at things now, sometimes I would give everything to be seventeen again. Take away the responsibilities and everything, but then I also remember that even back then the world felt a bit too big to handle. Most of us have managed to step away from the idea that we need to please everyone, but still we do like the idea that people like us. Remember how it was back then?
The End of the F***ing World - There are many opinions about this TV show, from people saying that it is awesome, to people saying that they don't get why others waste time on it. I loved it. It is best if you check out the trailer and give it a try. Maybe it connects to people on a personal level and it drives them to watch it, maybe that is also the reason for such divided opinions.
The Magicians - I have not seen Harry Potter /for shame... I know... how can I even exist/ but I think this would be something a HP fan would love as well as anyone else. The premise is simple - what would you do if you would find out that magic is real? I watched the first season with a buddy in 2017 and then I binged watched the second and third once I moved back home. It is a crazy story that can also drive the question in your mind - what would do if you would find out magic exists? Watch the first trailer here and do the goddamn magic! P.S. Hurry up season 4 is just around the corner.
The Orville - I owe a lot to my buddy Marian for sharing this with me. This show definitely receives a gold medal from my side. It is funny, engaging and it talks about so many social questions and issues all at once. In our society I would expect we would be more advance and wiser, but there are still so many instances of racism and homophobia around us. This show tackles these serious notions and others perfectly. Of course in reality most probably if we would meet alien species at first it would be bombarding them and asking questions later, but just think how our belief and general acceptance would change if we would live and work side by side with aliens from many different planets. There is more to life than just black and white, and it is my belief that we should be advancing to a more open, understanding and diverse society. Second season is out now and so far it is as amazing as the first one.

Papillon (2017) - The story plot I think is not heard for the first time. A wrongly accused man gets imprisoned and forms a friendship with someone. But the story develops and takes you along with it. The sad reality is that quite a lot of people have faced it back in the day and in some countries they face it still.
A Prayer Before Dawn (2017) - The plot of the movie is based on a real life story of an English fighter who is imprisoned in Thailand. It is not an easy afternoon movie to watch, it is actually rather hard to digest, because of the simple notion that it is true. I can only be surprised how in reality the main character has survived it all and how he now works with prisoners and tries to help them.
Origin - This was such a damn surprise. Started it at the end of the year and binged watched it until the end, after coming back home from a New Years party on the 1st of January. It is a thriller horror mashup. The idea of moving away from direct jump scare and gory horror is something that I love, and this show delivered on it. Being a suspense play between hunting an alien on a spaceship, surviving and dealing with their own pasts, the survivors on the ship portray brilliantly how people in stressful situations change. The horror genre is not for everyone, but seeing that this is not the standard horror flick with gore added, I can only recommend it.
A Quiet Place (2018) - I started 2019 by really jumping into scary (or I would much rather call them thriller) movies. In a way, I blame Origin for that, because it filled me with adrenaline and I needed more suspense, and boy o boy, did A Quiet Place deliver on it. John Krasinski has directed a great movie, playing in it with sounds and sign language, adding suspense as the movie develops. It is called one of the best movies of 2018 and there is a good reason for that. I did not like the ending of the movie, but that is something you can check out and share your opinion about.
Aquaman (2018) - Yes, I am ending the list with a superhero movie. I just will come out and say it - I loved Aquaman! I am still so hyped about it, that I am even going to take my sisters kids to see it. The DC universe has been in the shadows ever since Batman v Superman (I am on of the few people who loved it), better let's stay away from Suicide Squad because it was a pure disappointment. Justice League was ok, but in all honesty I forgot I have seen it. But Aquaman... oh Jason Momoa, hats off for bringing the character that has been a bit of a joke between the comic fans on the first spot. The visual effects, the action, the story. It was all really well combined. I do hope that Warner Brothers and DC take this into account and they maybe find their vibe in creating good movies. I still don't get it, why did they get so afraid when people said that Batman v Superman was so dark.
Tumblr media
Honorable mentions:
Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018) - Perfectly stands next to Avengers: Infinity War and tries not to compete with it.
Venom (2018) - Not sure why people did not like this one.
Deadpool 2 (2018) - It is Deadpool... how can you not love Deadpool?
The Terror (2018) - Literally a chilling TV show thriller.
Bird Box (2018) - The hype is very real and deserved.
Outlaw King (2018) - Netflix definitely has the power to create great movies (most of the time)
Darkest Hour (2018) - As it turns out Mr. Churchill in real life was not such a nice guy, but Gary Oldmans performance of the character was amazing.
Altered Carbon (2018) - I like Sci-Fi and in particular I liked Blade Runner 2049, and this gave me a similar feeling to it.
Brawl in Cell Block 99 (2017) - I did not know Vince Vaughn could play such a strong and steady character. This movie reminded me Shot Caller which in a similar way undeservedly flew by people.
I did not get it:
The Predator (2018) - They had such an amazing material (first two movies in particular) to work with, but they created such a dud.
Bright (2017) - I miss the days when Will Smith was in good movies.
Skyscraper (2018) - I know that The Rock can do way better movies. Just look at The Rundown (2003).
Daddys Home 2 (2017), Tag (2018) and Night School (2018) - Comedy movies in general are facing a hard time, it could be because most of the jokes have already been said and also because it is hard to connect with a slightly older audience. /Yes, yes 27 is not that old, but it is not that young as well either/ I think comedy movies should stop dumbing it down and maybe trying to find more intelligent and maybe sarcastic approach to jokes. Not saying that the movies are bad per say, but they are not impressive enough in a genre that deserves and needs impressive, good comedy movies.
Murder on the Orient Express (2017) - Tried to watch it at least three times and could not finish it.
This is for sure a view point of my own and I am not expecting that everyone would have the same opinion about the movies selected. Movies and TV shows are something to enjoy and entertain ourselves with. It is not just the story plot, the acting, it is also camera work and playing with words and in some cases even sounds. Spending their free time in front of the screen is not for everyone, but for me, I love a good movie and TV show, the same as I love reading a good book in the morning whilst going to work. 2019 will be an interesting year for movies and TV shows, as Marvel is releasing Captain Marvel, Avengers: End Game, there will be also many great shows returning like The Magicians, The Punisher, Vikings is now running as well, and of course Game of Thrones comes to an end.
Have I missed something watch worthy?
Let us hope for a headbanging and awesome 2019 inside and outside of the big screen!

I'm trying to find a health insurance plan for me and my fiance. I currently do not have health insurance but I am on Birth Control for cyst prevention and it runs 90$ a month. ""No insurance car accident, wasn't my fault, other insurance company demands payment. What can I do?""
Hello, I need some advice. About 5 months ago, I was in a car accident where I had borrowed my brother's car to run a quick errand. I was not covered on the insurance for the vehicle. I was in a parking lot going straight about 15mph and another car from a feeder lane made a quick left turn (there was a stop sign for her) without paying attention and there was a collision. As far as I can tell, in this type of collision (left turn into a thoroughfare from a feeder) fault lies 100% with the other driver (as far as insurance goes). Today, I received a letter from a collection agency representing the other driver's insurance company demanding $10,000 in damages for repairs. They claim that the facts state that as a result of MY negligence I am responsible for the damages incurred. I cannot afford this. I don't know what to do. How is this my fault? Don't isurance companies follow specific fault determination rules? Any advice is appreciated. Thank you. I know I shouldn't have been driving that car. Only helpful answers please.""

""Driver's license address, insurance address, etc. etc. discrepancies?""
Hi guys. Well, to start out with I have my driver's license address set to my uncle's house in pembroke pines, FL, but I live here in Hialeah Gardens, FL. Why do I have it set to my uncle's house you ask? Well, back when I was 18 (i'm 20 now) my mom persuaded me to set my insurance address (progressive) to my uncle's house so it would be cheaper. It's cheaper by like $100. Now, I'm scared I can be legally held liable or whatever if I get in a crash or whatever the case. I mean, I'm sure there has to be some type of deterrent or punishment so people don't do this kind of stuff like me. Another thing I'm worried about is when cops stop me. Since those two years I have only been stopped three times for minor infractions that did not go punished. Another thing is when I have to apply at jobs. Usually employers don't really care that on the application it says pembroke pines as long as I let them know I actually live close to them in hialeah gardens. I recently applied for my security officer D license and the problem is that in some companies I have to put the address that it says on my license like in any other job but, the problem is that they locate your post depending on were you live. If anyone can shoot me any information it would be more than appreciated, thanks!""

Car accident with no insurance?
I hit a car in Alaska, no damage to the cars except a tiny tiny dent on the other car's back bumper that barely can be visible within 20 inches distance if a person keeps looking very good. I've been saving up the past 3 years to buy myself a car. I've saved about 18K for a new car, so my price range is from about 18-24K for a car, new or used. Some cars that I'm interested in are: In Order: 1. 2004 BMW 530i 2. 2004 Infiniti G35 3. 2005 Mercedes C230 4. 2004 Acura TL or RSX 5. 2005 BMW 325i My problem isn't whether I can afford the car and the maintenance fees, its the insurance. I would be under my fathers insurance. He's 55, no accidents or tickets, been driving since 16. He would be the primary and I would be the secondary. I go to college, have a 3.8 GPA, work part-time, have been driving since 16, no accidents or tickets, and the car would be parked in a garage. I also wouldn't be driving much, just to and from school (less than 7500 miles a year). How much would basic insurance be? I hate getting online quotes because its time consuming and I hate getting spam emails and phone calls. I'm thinking of buying the car soon, so please help. THANKS!""

""Speeding tickets and traffic safety school, does the insurance find out?""
I was issued a speeding ticket today in Illinois (cook county) and I have a question regarding one of my options: If you are 18 years or older, to avoid a conviction on your driving record, plead guilty, register for traffic safety school, pay $115. So let's assume that I pay the fine and complete traffic safety school. My question is regarding my insurance company...do they see that I was issued a speeding ticket but completed traffic safety school or is there no trace of it at all? I've read many things about this; some say that the ticket remains on record but simply does not count against you. Others say that the ticket will be on record and the insurance company can still choose to raise your rates but there is no penalty with the DMV for speeding. What is the right affordable car insurance to purchase in NEW JERSEY?
Hi, I was looking to buy a car insurance policy. I currently have a company but wanted to drop them due to being overpriced. The only problem is that i don't have a driver license nor have i ever had one. I was able to finance a car off the lot but it wasn't for me. I brought it for my grandson. He has a driver license and is the only primary driver of the car. Being as though I never had a license most companies won't accept it and limits me from getting a cheaper policy. He is about to turn 18 next week. So is there any car insurance companies that will accept that i don't have a license and let me get a policy with him being the primary driver of the car. Thanks!!""

They told me that we would have automatic payments made to them every month and that my coverage would stay the same. My husband and I never checked to make sure they were still automatically withdrawing the payments until today, 6 months later. I tried to call my insurance agent and she quit! I have not been covered since after the first month, and no one ever called to let me know I was no longer insured. HAD SOMETHING HAPPENED, ME AND SOME OTHER DRIVER WOULD'VE BEEN SCREWED. How to Come Home After Long Term Travel
It takes a while to come to terms with the idea of quitting your job and leaving on a trip. Once I knew I HAD to take this trip, the very next thought I had was “Great-I can leave.  How do I come back?” What follows is what I’ve learned from both Allison and my own experiences. These are all the things to consider and tips we learned on how to come home from a year living and traveling abroad.
BEFORE YOU LEAVE
If you love your job, don’t underestimate how much your job loves you back.
It’s incredibly expensive, time consuming, and exhausting process for employers to find good employees. Even if they do find a good potential candidate, that person could very likely turn out to be a complete degenerate when they get into the role. If you’re a good employee, you can use this to your advantage.
If you have a nagging feeling your employer doesn't like you, in reality, they are probably dreaming of a day when you’ll quit. For either of the strategies below, it’s best to start the conversation 2-3 months before you want to leave. If you plan on just quitting your job, two weeks minimum is necessary but if you start the conversation early you never know what you'll end up working out (an unpaid 3 month sabbatical with guaranteed job return perhaps?)
Or - negotiate with your employer to work remote. On the plus side you’ll be generating income while you’re abroad.  On the negative side your travel schedule will likely be severely impeded by the fact you’ll likely be tied to places with reliable internet. Not the biggest issue, but even in well wired places like Bali and Thailand, internet outages are more common than you would think.  Video conferencing can be extremely challenging even in the best of situations.  But hey, a CoWorking space on the beach is a hellofa lot better than your current work condition and there are more and more spaces or world-wide programs to participate now more than ever.
The hardest part though is if you’re expected to be working remote during the same hours as back at home.  This means you’d be essentially working second or third shift- not a great way to see the world.
There is - however - something to be said about the experience of being completely free from the burden of time.  From the time we enter our school years, we truly never get to take off the yoke of responsibility for more than a day or two at a time (in the US at least). It’s a big world that is begging you to get lost in it- who are you to deny that? (And the second you're abroad you'll realize HOW MANY people are doing this too.)
WHILE YOU’RE GONE
Leave and Never Look Back
This isn’t as unreasonable as it seems. We met many people abroad who left on one way tickets with a dream in their hearts and have no intent of going back to their home and normal life anytime soon.
Let’s stop here and differentiate what this looks like though.  If you are pursuing this option, the primary goal is not travel; it’s to become independent of the typical career lifestyle.  If you really want to leave the country indefinitely your focus will first be on creating financial independence.  It’s actually not as scary as it sounds- many people do this.  We just hadn’t met them yet because they aren’t hanging out in Wisconsin.  They’re hanging out in Chiang Mai, Canggu, or wherever the hell they want.
How have they accomplished this?  Many different ways. Many people are working as freelancers, participating in micro transactions “gigs”, have learned new skills abroad, or are just simply working in their normal job role for companies abroad.  There are also many ways to work abroad such as woofing or under 30yr/old work visas for countries like Australia and New Zealand.
Use your Time abroad to Change Careers upon Return
If you’ve been on a single career path for a few years, extended travel abroad might be one of the few moments where you really have the time and clarity to focus on changing careers.  You’ll have the free time to plan exactly what your new career path will look like, the time to network (even remotely) with contacts back home put things in motion, and the time to interview to line up the best possible positioning for yourself when you come home.
In my personal experience, potential employers that I interviewed with were intensely interested in my year abroad.  I was able to speak on goal setting, drive to succeed, and my newfound passion for my changing career path.  Despite what you might think, a gap of employment for a year of travel is not going to make you unhirable.  Instead, you will listen to countless stories in interviews of people wishing they had done the same thing.
Allison took the last few months on our trip and built her own HR Consulting business and has clients around the country and is able not only to work for herself but also from anywhere.  Building your own business is something that's hard to do when you're working for someone else.  Maybe your trip is also about building something yourself.
Location
When we acknowledged the fact that it was time to start our reentry plan, we knew that we’d need to be in the right spot to pull it off.  Sure, one could always travel back home and look for jobs there.  However, if you plan ahead, then you can stay abroad while you job hunt for less money than sitting at home.
For example, we chose to go to Bali for a month as our last place to visit before returning home.  We would be able to stay and live for cheap (especially booking accommodation for a month at a time). We would have access to reliable power and internet through a CoWorking space located close to our rental apartment as well. Added bonus? We got to be in Bali! One month quickly turned into two at a minimum of added cost. Additionally, when “work” was done at the end of the day, there would still be plenty of island to explore and waves to catch.
Tools
If you’re looking for any sort of professional job while abroad, you’re going to need access to a computer.  Luckily, even if you don’t bring  laptop with, it’s easy enough to find an internet cafe where you can use a PC for cheap.  One thing you’ll likely want taken care of before you leave home though is having a copy of your updated resume and references on Google Drive.
Money
We love ourselves some personal finance. Boring Excel spreadsheets, tedious budgeting apps, retirement planning, and conscious spending are passions of ours (that's how we made the trip possible - read more here!). One fundamental of any personal finance guru is that you always keep a liquid nest egg that can sustain your living costs for six months.  This 6 Month Emergency Fund should be ON TOP OF the money you’ve saved for your trip    Of course, if you’re a student or you have an awesome mom and dad you plan on living with upon your return, your emergency fund need not be for 6 months. If you’re a grown ass adult planning on leaving for extended travel, you should already have a 6 month fund- it shouldn’t be something you have to save for on top of the trip money (if not -- start now - change your lifestyle because you are spending too much of your take-home pay! Read more here.)
Costs Upon Returning Home
First off, think of the obvious- return flight, transportation, food, etc. Do a daily budget for your home country just like you're doing for your trip.  Multiply by the length of time until you anticipate to be working again.
Now here are a few costs that aren’t as obvious:
Vehicle Insurance-  Expect a small hike on cost if you haven’t had insurance in a year.
Health Insurance and the penalty of not having health insurance- (thanks Obama) your travel health insurance is only valid out of the country, so even though we weren't in the country and had health insurance we still had to pay a penalty for every month.
Interview Costs- gas, clothing, haircuts
Moving Cost- If your job is in a new location, you may need to be for movers or a moving trailer, in addition to having deposit and first month's rent for a new apartment.
Hope some of that information helps ease your fears about leaving your current job and pursuing your dream.  Before we left, know that we shared all the same fears and anxiety as you.  But just remember, time passes in days, not all at once.  If you feel like you're account is looking a little too close to zero you can always just come home early.  Not 100% the plan, but if you're responsible its doubtful the trip is going to put you out on the streets.
