Okay it took me fat longer than it should have, but I FINALLY read Glow.
As if I didn't already love Slade enough they went and gave me vulnerable baby Slade 😭😍.
This wasn't my favorite of the series, it did feel like it took forever for anything to happen, but the background information was needed and the end was worthhhhh it.
I can't wait for the next one.

I finished reading Glow and it was by far the best book in The Plated Prisoner series.

7/10 fantasy narrative
Auren really comes into her own person in this Book 2 of her Plated Prisoner series.
Though definitely less nail biting than the first book, Auren still has a few spicy hot moments of tension with the Commander of the Fourth Kingdom Army, Rip.
I love the wine barrel inside jokes, and how she charms the captains of Fourth Army by being herself. Especially loving that they were kind enough to want to train her into being her own person.
I am pleasantly surprised and rooting for Auren at the end she finally decides to put her foot and take back control of her destiny. I am jumping into Book 3 ready to see how she escapes King Midas, and whether she develops true love with Slade…

I’m almost done with Glow, but I need to get this off my chest. Spoilers for all books.

Slade is barely better than Midas.
Why? The decision of going or not going to the trial is Auren’s to make. She has been invited and it’s up to her to decide whether she’d go. But Slade not only prevents any discussion about it with her, distracting her before she can start the conversation, he also purposefully lets her sleep through the last opportunity to voice her own decision and goes to the dinner alone to speak for her, he also purposefully withholds information about that trial that would have helped her make an informed decision.
She didn’t have her voice and couldn’t make her own decisions when she was with Midas, and she still can’t do them with Slade.
Both kings make decisions on her behalf and against her wishes, both kings have no qualms speaking for her.
And don’t get me started on “You belong to me forever, body and soul, I will always be at your side no matter what! Choose wisely because there will be no turning back.” Midas’ red flags weren’t as big as this one!
Auren exchanged one cage for an almost identical cage and it drives me MAD that this is portrayed in a positive light. Since Kennedy portrayed an abusive relationship with Midas pretty accurately, she must understand that this is not it either. This is not an improvement, and no amount of fae lore is gonna help hide the red flags Slade is exhibiting.
It all boils down to the fact that Slade and Midas are both autoritative. Yes, Midas handled his guards and subjects differently, and yes, Slade is all (pseudo-)friendly with his inner circle, but at the end of the day, Slade makes his decisions alone and disregards any dissent, his fights with Ryatt the best example of it. Slade still pushes his authority as the King, just like Midas, and he still dominates and subjugates Auren just like Midas did.
1/10, a shame because the first three books were promising.

My reaction to the last few chapters of the book was quite funny.
I went to:
"No!" to "fuckfuckfuck" to "Oh my" to "oh my god, yeah!" and "oh my god, no!" ending with "AAAAAAAAAH".
