So I'm back from the Slovenia trip. (I was there bc Animateka film festival screened Entbandung there, invited me for an Q&A and paid for the hotel stay.) I went there by train, and not only did I end up stranding on my way there and having to spend an unplanned night in a small Austrian town - I also ended up stranding on my way back home, again ending up spending an unplanned night...
...in the same little Austrian town. At the same hotel. In the same hotel room even.
Definitely one of the weirdest things that ever happened to me.
Luckily, Austrian Federal Railways had given me a hotel voucher every time that happened. And the town is very charming, with a lovely Christkindlmarkt. So I didn't mind too much. But my way back home did double from 15 hours to 30 hours. Once I was home it still felt like I was still in a train and the world was still moving and shaking around me, until I fell asleep.
Ljubljana and Animateka were great by the way. It was nice to explore the city and get to know other student filmmakers at the festival. I hope I'll one day get to go there again.

One of my favorite moments in the finale is Sokka using his pristine acting skills to announce to the whole airship that they will be celebrating a birthday during one of the most important missions in fire nation history, and then everyone on the crew collecting in the drop chamber like they were asked and acting like it's the most normal thing ever because apparently it's common to have birthday parties on fire nation war vessels during extermination missions.

some of you never grew up in a small conservative town as a (gay) nerd that was bullied, harassed, and excluded for years on end for not fitting in and for visibly and enthusiastically liking geek things—geek things that then branded you a satanist in everyone's eyes and as something Other, Lesser, and Undoubtedly Unworthy of Basic Human Decency even though you were literally just an actual child with harmless interests and not a satanist or an evil disgusting subhuman thing, and it shows.
you cannot apply modern views and beliefs to a show that is set in the eighties, especially not when it's set in conservative midwest eighties which is a whole other beast. being a socially awkward and nonconforming geek is something that people STILL get bullied for if you don't do it in a way that the majority deems "acceptable", especially if you live in a conservative, religious area.
your experiences are not universal and your inability to relate to a certain motif or story does not make it "lesser" or "bad writing."

I think you should be made aware that theres a minidrama on twitter claiming Shiver fans to be racist. Which...some might be. My mutual in law got DOGGED recently and i saw all of it (all they did was make a lil joke i think
so i’ve heard… :( the entire situation is terrible , honestly. i’m not big into splatoon but i am a brown person, and seeing the infighting between fans about the racism and colorism in the fanbase is. stressful, to put it VERY lightly
i’m very sorry to hear what happened to your mutual-in-law. the recent splatfest has a LOT of people agitated. thankfully nobody has been rude to me yet, but knowing the internet (and how things are going right now) who knows how long that’ll last

Alex fell through the Mists and landed in another world after everything has settled in Tyria aka I like to create the same character in different action games because I like putting him in different scenarios and worlds
It's morning it's the best time for silly ideas, partially based off @clearlitebergaming 's post on the WoL and Commander

In Absolute Being AU it’s interesting how Jinwoo and Jinchul’s progression differs
Jinwoo was gradually growing into his strength having time and space to figure it all out and practice even having literal guiding material with him all the time
Jinchul in this case is completely opposite: he wasn’t growing into his strength, it just hit him like a truck at critical moment, he has no one to guide him through his own ‘can’ and ‘cannot’, he has no guide and no idea what to do with it all
Ashborn’s strength allowed Jinwoo to bloom and take roots, while Absolute Being’s, while creational in it’s core, literally hurts Jinchul.
Jinchul’s health started to become worse even more than usual, some S rankers can feel that something is wrong with his mana, it’s in state of chaos and unrest as opposed to usually calm and stoic one. And then one day nothing seemingly is wrong until Gunhee notices that Jinchul is having a strong nosebleed, Jinchul just touches his leaking blood like ‘oh’ and then he just half coughs half chokes half spits splutter of blood and it’s an absolute mess.
Jinchul’s mana pretty much slowly tears and eats him from inside because human body isn’t supposed to host literal god in it. And since AB’s unlimited pools of mana slowly absorb Jinchul’s, it’s ain’t helping either, and Jinchul himself just can’t take this wild force under his control without outside assistance but from where?
Ashborn is helpful beyond any reason, Jinwoo is gradually becoming more panicking but old man is here on back of his consciousness giving instructions and explanations. Jinwoo felt his shadows that he assigned to Jicnhul being unrest and panicking and he instantly teleports here only to see Gunhee trying to keep Jinchul standing and leaning forward so he won’t choke on his own blood he just keeps coughing out. There’s so much of it, Gunhee’s hands and chest is covered in it, there’s small pool of it on floor, and then Jinchul lifts his head greeting Jinwoo with ‘Ah, good day, hunter Sung’ with hoarse bubbling voice and Jinwoo wants to yell (Ashborn later notes that he did yell extremely loudly inside) because Junchul’s lower half of face is completely smeared in blood, his suit has so much of it that it seems even darker. Man is extremely pale and barely focusing his eyes on Jinwoo’s face and Jinwoo can see how prominent shadows on Jinchul’s face are.
Jinwoo just grabbing Jinchul’s face no questions asked and starts to tune this wild strength in man while making sure that Jinchul coughs out all the blood from lungs. And then Jinchul’s breathing evens, all three stand here still on adrenaline and Jinchul just tiredly closes his eyes for a minute only to fall asleep, Jinwoo and Gunhee silently agree that today Jinchul is having a day off.

what i appreciate about midnight motel is that it’s super fast paced, in a really engaging and hilarious way, but it’s also slipping out details about the characters in what feels like the slowest way possible.
the details get fed to us in tiny slithers, flashing unobtrusively up onto the screen in between the beats of the main story - and that makes the pacing of those reveals feel dissonant to the rest of the episode in a really cool way.
and it’s fascinating because it feels like they’re just leaking out small drips of information and then not talking about them again.
but because this is a dark comedy, it’s so hard to know how seriously to take it all - like, are these tiny bits of character story clues as to what’s actually going on? or should we just be taking it at face value, for the wild heightened reality it is?
we’re halfway through and there are all these tiny little plot threads that are appearing without being resolved - like who has pat’s money, what was up with that conversation between mote and doy about kat, who is the boss, what the fuck even happened to pat exactly. also why could tawi from not me track pat’s car, but not his PHONE? bitch, you don’t have find my friends on? also i have questions on literally everything involving sun and kat. so so many questions. also is mote really a teenager bc off jumpol is my age and i look youngish but “teen” is a stretch and like… off… off, my hetero husband, i swear i’m gonna save you from being cast as a teenager one day like i KNOW you’re talented but you don’t deserve to be teencoded like this like i’m gonna help i’m gonna get you out of here-
i’m just so curious as to whether i should be paying closer attention or not to the little things the show has been quietly telling us, or if it’s simply better to just go with it, because it’s a 6-episode comedy that repeatedly breaks the fourth wall, and why think about it too hard.

oh my god i'm so in love with all the fic ideas you talked about, but especially the last two with the castles kidnapping matt in like a friendly and well-meaning way. it's so funny to me and also the dynamic here would be absolutely excellent. never realised i needed a pro-crime hyper-competent maria castle in my life but apparently i do???
the dynamic in those, but especially the christmas one, is fucking hilarious. i love it so much. i'd write it tomorrow if i had the time
like the castles are treating this like one of those times where you pick up a puppy out of a cardboard box in a kmart parking lot and like, it's a little scrawny and underfed and feral and yeah, it probably would have been smarter to pick one out of the shelter where at least you know they've been checked out and have their shots and everything, but you know, the kids wanted one so bad and it's christmas, and it's cold and the poor thing's probably going to freeze to death in the cardboard box, so you bring it home, and suddenly it's in these new and unfamiliar surroundings and it keeps trying to skitter out the front door every time it opens, so maybe you have to keep it in a back room or tied up for a while and you hand feed it treats until it stops trying to run away and like, you know eventually the puppy's going to warm up to you as long as you treat it right and when that happens you'll have a happy new member of the family that you can probably shove felt reindeer antlers on for the family christmas card
meanwhile matt's treating this like a fucking kidnapping
