DU PAGE COUNTY (CBS) — DuPage County investigators are again seeking assistance as they continue investigating the Feb. 23, 2007 disappearance of John “Chicago Johnny” Spira.
He was last seen in unincorporated West Chicago. John Spira, who was 45 years old at the time of his disappearance, is five feet, nine inches tall, 165 pounds with brown hair and eyes. At the time, it was known that Spira was recruiting investors for business opportunities and start-up companies, police said.

His sister Stephanie McNeil told CBS Chicago three years ago that she has led searches and given interviews about her brother, hoping somebody will give her answers.
“It’s hard to talk about. And it’s funny, the longer that time passes, it almost gets harder,” she said at the time.

Spira was headed to Oak Brook and never made it, but his truck was still at the West Chicago cable company he owned, Universal Cable. He played area blues clubs with the Rabble Rousers band. He was a well-known guitarist.
The DuPage County Sheriff says Spira is missing “under suspicious circumstances.”
McNeil believes her brother is dead and that the wife he was divorcing knew something. But she died more than nine years ago.
“There are people out there who know. I feel like more than one person knows. And I really wish they would come forward, even anonymously,” she told CBS in February 2017, the 10th anniversary of her brother’s disappearance.
The DuPage County Sheriff’s Office is requesting that anyone who invested money with Spira to contact Detective Dave Chiesa at (630) 407-2364 or by email at [email protected]

THE DAY THE MUSIC DIED - Near Clear Lake, Iowa. It was here, in the early morning hours of February 3rd, 1959, where rock legends Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J.P. “The Big Bopper” Richardson (along with pilot Roger Peterson) perished in a tragic plane crash that shocked and saddened the nation and a generation. Known as “The Day the Music Died” - after its melancholy reference in singer Don McLean’s 1971 song of innocence lost, “American Pie” - this rock-n-roll tragedy is still remembered by fans to this day. #thedaythemusicdied 64 years ago today, February 3rd, 1959 Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper's (J.P. Richardson) plane crashed outside of my hometown in Clear Lake, Iowa. They had just played a concert at the legendary @thesurfballroom & Museum. Waylon Jennings was Buddy Holly's bass player at the time. He came down with the flu, and gave up his seat on the plane for Richardson. Tommy Allsup who played guitar in Holly's band, lost his seat to Ritchie Valens in a coin toss. They were headed to an airport in North Dakota to play their next show on the tour in Moorehead, Minnesota. It was poor winter weather conditions, and the pilot lost control of the Beechcraft Bonanza just after take off, and subsequently crashed into the cornfields. Unfortunately, all 4 died that fateful night. People come from all over the world to visit our little podunk town, and see the memorial site. I am so incredibly lucky to share a small piece of history from this tragic story. I had the honor of performing a 4+ hour show with my mom for Buddy Holly's wife, Maria Holly for a private Buddy Holly Memorial Anniversary event. My dad Roger Mikkelsen was a chef at The Diamond Kay (now Rumors) in Clear Lake, where the event took place. That night was something so truly magical, I will cherish it forever. After all, it's not every day a small town Iowa girl gets to meet, perform for, and hang out with a legendary music icons wife, and to share that memory with both of my parents is incredible. This is a photo I took at the entrance. There is a memorial at the actual crash site about .35 mile into the cornfield. The entrance can be found on the corner of Gull Ave & 315th St. Navigate your GPS to 22728 Gull Avenue, Clear Lake, Iowa and look for the giant glasses on the side of the gravel road. The section of land leading to the crash site is mowed for easy access. Don't forget bug spray! #legends #thedaythemusicdied #buddyholly #ritchievalens #bigbopper #restinpeace #SurfBallroom #music #musicians #history #legendary #onthisday #alyssaruffin #recordingartist #womeninmusic #musicjourney #therufflife #highway83records #memories #music (at Buddy Holly Crash Site) https://www.instagram.com/p/CoNwQ_3PiRD/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Music has endured over time. It now faces its toughest foe yet. “The greatest trick the devil ever played was convincing the world that he did not exist.” 🤔 Another piece finished, awaiting its framing treatment, that will debut in Miami in just a couple weeks. #artbytai #penart #spotify #music #thedaythemusicdied https://www.instagram.com/p/CoFf5Gcufrl/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Hey everyone, did you know that the original manuscript of Don McLean's iconic song 'American Pie' was sold for a whopping $1.2 million at a New York auction at the Christie's sale in 2015? This song is considered a masterpiece and has captivated audiences for decades.
McLean has described the songwriting process as a "mystical trip into his past," and it's no wonder why. 'American Pie' is filled with references to events and people that have shaped American culture. For example, the repeatedly mentioned phrase "the day the music died" refers to the plane crash in 1959 that killed early rock and roll performers Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper, and Ritchie Valens.
In my early teens, I first listened to it, from the moment I heard it, I was completely hooked. I remember borrowing my dad's CD and recording it onto a cassette tape so that my best friend and I could listen to it over and over again, pausing and playing in order to meticulously transcribe the lyrics. While it may seem like a lot of work compared to the convenience of simply Googling the lyrics today, the effort was more than worth it for a song that has stayed with me all these years. Looking back, I can't help but smile and chuckle at the memories of those simpler times.
The lyrics are full of other references, such as "the joker stole the crown" which is believed to refer to Bob Dylan's rise to fame, and "while Lenin read a book of Marx, the quartet practiced in the park" which is a nod to The Beatles' early days.
Did you know that McLean once said he has never revealed the meaning of the song's lyrics and that it's up to the listener to interpret them? So, what does 'American Pie' mean to you? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

On February 3, 1959, rock and roll musicians Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J. P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson were killed in a plane crash near Clear Lake, Iowa, together with pilot Roger Peterson. The event later became known as "The Day the Music Died," after singer-songwriter Don McLean referred to it as such in his song "American Pie" in 1971.
At the time, Holly and his band, consisting of Waylon Jennings, Tommy Allsup, and Carl Bunch, were playing on the "Winter Dance Party" tour across the United States Midwest. Rising artists Valens and Richardson had joined the tour, as well. The long journeys between venues on board the cold, uncomfortable tour buses adversely affected the performers, with cases of flu and even frostbite. After stopping at Clear Lake to perform, and frustrated by such conditions, Holly chose to charter a plane to reach their next venue in Moorhead, Minnesota. Richardson, who had the flu, swapped places with Jennings, taking his seat on the plane, while Allsup lost his seat to Valens on a coin toss. Soon after takeoff, late at night and in poor, wintry weather conditions, the pilot lost control of the light aircraft, a Beechcraft Bonanza, which subsequently crashed into a cornfield. Everyone on board was killed. The event has since been mentioned in various songs and films. A number of monuments have been erected at the crash site and in Clear Lake, where an annual memorial concert is also held at the Surf Ballroom, the venue that hosted the artists' last performance.
