modern AU where all clowns are one big family

GHB is the father of course. Others are his kids:

Chahut - 19, almost 20, Kurloz - hit 19 recently, Marvus - 17, Gamzee - 13, almost 14, Barzum and Baizli - 12, Karako - 8.

GHB is somehow connected to religion (and maybe organized crime) and Chahut often helps him at work. She’s most close to him among the kids. She also likes painting and photography. When father isn’t around, she’s in charge of the family. Also she’s the only child who calls GHB ‘father’ - others call him just ‘dad’.

Kurloz is a chill guy who usually just minds his own business. Sometimes he also helps GHB at work but less than his older sister. He’s mute (lost his tounge) and a boyfriend to Meulin who can’t hear. They speak in sign language. All Makaras also known sign language but at different degrees. Kurloz also taught Karako his way of communication and they two are close to each other.

Marvus is a young rap star with pseudonim Xoloto (Zoloto). He’s not really into his father’s business and spends a lot of time with scene trainings and something like that. He have a friendly nature and never fights with his siblings. He also caries about his skin and hair more than all his family if put together.

Gamzee is... well, Gamzee. He sometimes invites his best friend Karkat over and when Karkat saw Barzum and Baizli for the first time he stared at them because he has never seen twins before. Gamzee himself likes to spend time with tweens - he calls Barzum ‘lilttle sis’ and Baizli ‘little bro’. He also goes to the same school as Kurloz have and knew little siblings/nephews/kids of people Kurloz knows from school.

Barzum and Baizli usually spend time with eachother but like to hang out with Gamzee and Marvus. They like to play pranks at their siblings but usually Chahut aren’t included because she’s big and can kick their asses (figuratively). But they love her anyway.

Karako is the baby of the family. He goes to special school where they teach him to talk and use other ways of communication. Usually he communicates with honking noises but also uses sign language and he can spell some words: yes, no, honk (as a word), dad, knife, clown, hurt, carnival, and something else. Among things he can spell is a lot of weird curses. He also friends with Wanshi who’s a nephew to his school’s principal.

Besides all that, all Makaras are professional clowns. They often perform at streets juggling, showing tricks etc. They also host a yearly (or once-in-some-years) carnival. Mostly it’s GHB, but older kids help him with it.

Looking at the wiki, it's vaguely irritating that Karako Pierot just seems to mean "clown clown". Zero information. And the quasi-viable alt etymologies I can think of just underline clown things. What if Karako were a misreading of the Russian for carousel (карусель) since the s sound is represented by a c? Well, that's still a clown thing; even if it were true, you've learned nothing. What if Pierot means pie, from the Russian Pirog (пирог), with the G misused as a T? Still a clown thing; learned nothing.

One desperate turnabout would be to claim that the lack of information is itself the message, further emphasizing Karako's near-silence. The staccato speech patterns of the "silent" Damara represented possession by Lord English... should we infer the same rationale for Karako's gold tooth? (if read as Japanese, Kara-ko could mean "empty child", negating the premise of our current argument even as it supports the conclusions) His facepaint is somewhat reminiscent of Aang's airbending arrow... should we infer Karako is an avatar? Eyes and horns are linked as media of psychic influence... should we infer that Karako's striped horns, forming as they would concentric circles of black and white when viewed from above, invoke LE's hypnotic gaze?

That last one probably feels like a stretch, but I include it because the thought of LE-hypnosis reminded me of a moment from Homestuck:

...isn't this the plot with the 3 seadwellers, who are literally just standing around making fun of you? though the revenge is executed with a burst of psychic clown powers instead of delicious pie filling magical dog vomit.

YES. My trolls are taller than my humans, and purplebloods are usually the tallest caste among fuchsias. The height le

vel actually drops at violet for pelagic seadwellers, and gets taller the deeper they go.

As for the canon trolls, i think Kurloz is the lankiest of them all because he's the oldest of them that isn't on Ancestor level (id say nearing 230cm as a young adult), followed by Chahut and Marvus (same height, older teens to young adult, 197cm or around that), Gamzee (older teen also 180cm), the Soleil twins (teens 169) and then Karako (145, because he is a literal child)

I wouldn't be suprised if Lonner is shotacon bait considering a lot but not all Karako and Amisia fans gave off those vibes or were straight up shota/lolicons.

There is some eyebrows raised in the writing for Chahut's route that MSPA Reader asked if she and Chathut were a thing that Amisia denies this. But Chathut comments that she has met other trolls that were younger than her that got into quadrants. It may be just world building that this Alternia would have even trolls equivalent to 3 or 4 years old enter sexual intercourse, but still questionable once it opens up to things like age gap too, since Chahut doesn't seem too bothered by MSPA Reader thinking the two girls were a pair. And this is the same fandom that would give Meenah flack for hitting on Karkat. They probably give Amisia a pass if only because her friendship with Chahut would give way to make her lesbian and most women do no wrong, so she'll be fine even in an age gap relationship. Not only Karako being a shotacon, but also hinted to be a mutant due to his discolored horns. Making the troll be more sympathetic that people want to protect this mysterious uwu boi child. As it hints in his own route and in FEFERI'S route to play some important role. tfw a shota clown steals the spotlight in your supposed character development Feels bad to be Feferi.

ALICE FROM FATE/EXTRA!!

no one talk to me about the anime. that anime's dead to me and it doesn't exist :o)

BUT if there's a character that I really adored as a kid, it's Alice :> her story still sticks w me a lot but Fate/Extra as a whole hits a lot of aesthetics. Hers in particular is all about fairy tale esque themes, playing a lot on Alice in Wonderland with powers like Jabberwock and being able to create the Nameless Forest :> But yeah, I still get choked up that it turned out that she's another data ghost like the protagonist of the game too and just pain.

I just love her character and her character design it's a lot of fun !! But Man..... Pain.

okay so I never finished reading the manga for Deadman Wonderland? I've been wanting to but I never got around to it buuuut

Karako! She's actually one of my big faves from Deadman Wonderland. I only watched the anime, but where we leave off there, she doesn't take a big role? If I recall? But I was always so excited when she did show up in the anime ' v ' very cool. also I think she can fight? Her power is that she can turn her blood into a shield-like bodysuit so it makes her body invincible against attacks. And she can punch people so yay!

My NOTP for them - I... Do I have any Gamzee notps? None of the general ships you see around really get to me all that much?

This is gonna sound weird, but I'm so picky about end game gamtav that it ALMOST creeps into notp territory. It's really, really hard for me to enjoy endgame/Earth C gamtav unless it's very specifically done. It's so hard for me to see a future for Gamzee at the end of Act 7. They're at such points in their lives that I absolutely would NOT want to see them in relationship immediately at the end of canon. There would need to be countless amounts of emotional progress, growth, and/or redemption on their own terms first, THEN they can get together :3

Not a notp, but I am pretty strictly pale gamkar. Not a flushed gamkar person, but I still find it cute so shrug???

My second choice pairing for them - Pale gamkar all the way. Love me some opposite moirails. I realized recently why I think Gamzee is so good for Karkat.With almost anyone else Karkat talks with, Karkat gets push back in some way, and I’m not saying that’s a bad thing! Or that it’s bad for Karkat! I was just thinking about that one chance Gamzee got to calm Karkat down post murderstuck and it was Karkat literally just so ready to fight and Gamzee is just “nah man :o( just maybe thinking you should try to calm down a little” and Karkat just seemed... so floored? By the lack of fight? And he’s basically just, “OH. RIGHT. OKAY. YEAH, YOU’RE MY MOIRAIL. YOU’RE SUPPOSED TO CALM ME DOWN. OKAY. I’M CALMING DOWN.”

And it just made me think of Karkat not knowing how to deal with Gamzee’s lack of pushback so he just... runs out of steam? Because he has no conflict to cycle off of? And idk it just makes my heart soft...

And speaking of opposite moirails, Karkat is just the HIGHEST strung motherfucker while Gamzee can be THE most pliable pile of soft goo. They balance each other :’D

My fluffy pairing for them - Not a romantic ship, but I adore a familial relationship between Gamzee and Calliope and Caliborn. Either with him just really caring about them as babies or AU's where he can be more of a dad to them (CALLIOPE SEEING GAMZEE AS A DAD POST CANON FUCKS ME UP DON'T TOUCH MEEE I'M IN THE THROES OF EMOTION.) Or humanstuck AU's where he's actually their dad, older brother, or adopts them ugh they get me. Dads who don't know what they're doing, all they know is they care a lot and trying their best? So good.

OH AND I GO STARK RAVING MAD FOR PARENT/CHILD DYNAMIC KARAKO AND GAMZEE. OLDER TEEN/YOUNG ADULT KARAKO TAKING IN TINY BABY GAMZEE??? AHHHHHHHHHHH???????

My angsty pairing for them - This is just copy pasted from my Terezi ask:

If I don't fully indulge with bffs Gamzee and Terezi in an AU, then I love me some ashen Gamzee♣️Rose♣️Terezi when it comes to more canon compliant material. With how upset over his qudrants Gamzee was in openbound? Plus it being post murderstuck? PLUS Rose having to deal with some of the most difficult trolls? I feel like there's a whole slew of really delicious angst just waiting there. A Gamzee afraid of losing Karkat, a Terezi lost in her guilt over killing Vriska, and both tearing into each other in some ugly, misdirected pitch flirting, Rose would absolutely have her hands full and probably get a kick out of it. I also love the idea of Rose just seeing it as a fun social learning experience "oooh troll quadrants and getting to play therapist" type thing, but then she really starts to understand the depth of the bonds ashen relationships have and she really comes to care so much for both of them.

Honorable mention to pitch Aradia♠️Gamzee with Gamzee being full on servant of Lord English and Aradia trying to be the keeper of time and the two of them meeting and clashing over and over throughout time and space as two opposing forces.

My favorite poly ship for them - Oooh, ho ho ho, love me some Gam♥️Equius♥️/♠️Tavros. Gamzee adores Equius so much tbh. Gamzee was just a huge sweetheart to Equius pre-game and just loved talking to him. Equius seemed pretty pitch (and I love Gamzee♠️Equius) towards him, but I think I like the idea of Equius letting himself be loved and recieve soft red affection from Gamzee is so cute.

I have a lot more thoughts about them, but it mostly focuses on Tavros and Equius’ dynamic, so I’ll save it for my Tavros ask.

My weirdest pairing for them - Probably the weirdest I've got for Gamzee is him pailing his auspistice, Arsast Aporia, a fantroll from Miracle Child. I call it "The Naughty Auspistice" series. It really all started while talking about the idea of Gamzee and Arsast kissing in a hypothetical game of truth or dare and then they realize, "Uh oh, they kind liked it," then Arsast gets the funky idea to distract Gamzee's desire to pail Sephar (the other ashmate), by pailing Gamzee himself. It's just... I've explored 'rails with pails before, but this is this the first time considering clubs who pail (there's probably a more clever term for it out there). It's just some silly thing I've come to really enjoy eheheh, especially with the social inappropriateness of it and them kind of needing to sneak around to do it.
