[ cw: death mention / family death mention / ]
Mhmm I sure love thinking of the reality where we did get more time to really know Karai and her dynamics with the bros. Losing her hit hard in the finale, but it would’ve hit much, much harder had we known Karai longer and really saw her relationships develop with everyone.
I especially would have been interested in her dynamic with Leo, as past iterations often have the two of them clash in ideals and the like while still sharing many characteristics. Two sides of the same coin, and all that. Her specifically being the bros’ Gram-Gram also adds a whole new dynamic as well.
Imagine how interesting it would be, to have Karai start off on Leo’s side for once, showing wholly just how alike the two are at their cores and bonding as family without the worry of betrayal or animosity that other iterations suffer through, only to have Karai die anyway. Their parting hug and the desperate look of horror Leo wears later on would have hit that much harder, I feel.

Another thing I love about Merlin is that Merlin tells Gaius almost everything that happened right away. He's not the stereotypical good guy who "bears it all alone because misery asked me out on a date, just the two of us and no one more" for example, he literally poisoned Morgana and by the end of the episode he and Gaius are having fireside conversations about tough decisions. Like yeah, don’t keep it to yourself, everyone needs support on this show

My greatest personal source of pain is that nobody has ever watched the show DCs Legends of Tomorrow (i mean i guess SOMEBODY has since it ran for 7 seasons on the CW. but none of my fags and dykes on here have) which I know is cringe bc it was technically a CW superhero show but god. that show had everything. they literally did alien mpreg

the thing i always loved about team rocket in the anime (i.e. jessie, james and meowth) is that they would never ever ever approve of hurting pokemon. steal them from their trainers, sure. maybe keep them in a cage temporarily. but every single time, their only wish was to deliver rare pokemon to the boss. in their minds, the pokemon they stole would live a rather lavish lifestyle as the boss' pets. its basically like theyre fully unaware of the experiments giovanni did with mewtwo and team rocket's other dealings that would hurt pokemon. i don't think they would be a part of team rocket at all if they even knew about that classified stuff. they're only a part of this because they're broke milennials who want to strike it rich quick. jessie in particular tries achieving this goal in other ways like being a coordinator and/or actress. beyond that, jessie and james are great pokemon trainers who have consistently shown how much they deeply care about their pokemon. they all share food together, they all blast off together, they are one big family and that's the gospel truth. every time they part with one of their pokemon, it's with tears (hate to say it but... unlike ash, who keeps leaving his entire team behind every time he travels to a new region without so much as a fond farewell to the group!). james in particular cried buckets leaving victreebel, weezing, cacnea, and chimecho. and then you have jessie parting with arbok and dustox. it's like, damn. these silly fuckers love their pokemon and they love pokemon in general. they care for meowth as well - there are multiple times where they show that they'd never leave him behind.

As much as I love dragons and I am overly invested in dragons in this setting and always get incredibly sad and emotional when they suffer/die I do not forget that at their core they’re flying metaphors for power. They’re weapons used for enforcing and maintaining power by people whose interests lay in feudalism, patriarchy, and monarchy.
They do have personality and spiritual/magical connection to their riders but they are not sentient. They represent an age that was doomed to catastrophically collapse because they were created with blood magic and suffering and deployed to enforce an empire created on the back of chattel slavery and conquest.
It was practically written in the stars that the Targaryens would inevitably turn on each other and tear each other apart and their dragons would die in this conflict long before their house’s collapse.
It is my personal wish that Dany’s children are the true last of their kind. She brings change and hope and a future for society and a fighting chance against the Others but I don’t think her dreams are sustainable on the backs of a renewed dynasty of dragon riders. It makes me sad bc I think dragons are such a fun and romantic and exciting part of fantasy writing but I also like GRRM’s world and attached commentary. And what dragons mean in this setting is ultimately an unsustainable fiery grip on absolute power. Dragons plant no trees.
I hope that Dany is the last Targaryen because in her quest of looking forward to the possibility of a new world, she builds her dreams on a foundation that is not doomed to rot and burn away.
