age of calamity is so funny. when you get a new playable character, you get a little mini quest with enemies so you can get comfortable with playing as said character and getting used to the combos and whatnot. the enemies are usually a moblin or two, lizalfos, bokoblins, the usual

but with sooga, his whole training quest is like. a silver lynel. a black hinox. multiple moblins

he is canonically very strong and is kohgas right hand and crazy skilled in sword fighting etc etc. the fact that they were like “mmm yes let’s make his training the most difficult bc it’s accurate to his character”

PLUS. the title is something like “soogas daily drills” or something which made me laugh. like yes sooga goes out every day and just fights a lynel and some hinoxs for fun to train up. sounds about right

the last unicorn post from earlier has me thinking about the master. that yana is still in there, you know? is still someone he was, if even for a brief flash across the life of a time lord. there’s no way to unlive that life. there are ways to twist it later, sure, to make utopia into hell on earth. but the life was lived. in much the same way that the doctor can remember, can feel, the love he held onto as john smith even as that life is ripped out of his hands. the doctor choose denial and then grief and then to shutter it all away. and so john smith died, and so professor yana died, and the doctor and the master live on. the doctor has done this before, and he lives in orbit around humanity, trying to keep the best parts of them and hold them deep enough to take root (which he can pretend he gets to choose, as a time lord. as a human, it all floods in and can’t be dug back out.) but what about the master, right?

to borrow a turn of phrase: i think there are two time lords left in the universe, and they both learned how to regret.

I think I realized how severely humor infects all spaces when I witnessed two of my coworkers at the neuro clinic I’m interning at laughing at putting in a patient as deceased

toddler iceland, finding that playing with denmark’s hair is one of the most entertaining things a toddler in the middle ages can do. and denmark letting him do it whenever he wanted.

denmark, in the midst of the collapse of the kalmar union, ignoring his own declining health for the sake of keeping iceland happy. denmark, refusing to let iceland see the actual carnage of what norway had left him as even though he knows he knows.

teenager iceland, who is standoffish and hates to get emotional, that willingly watches sad movies with denmark because he knows that denmark will shed the first tear. iceland who likes to hang out with denmark, because he still treats him the same as he did before he grew up.

adult denmark who always tries to involve iceland. adult denmark who makes it clear that he is there for iceland; that he wants to be the shoulder that he cries on. modern denmark who is prepared to make up for what he lacked in his prior years.

teenager iceland who has taken up denmark’s offers on midnight baking because he couldn’t sleep. teenager iceland who tries to remember what denmark was like at his (physical) age, and often remembers being cuddled into denmark’s arms. teenager iceland who catches himself humming old lullabies denmark used to (try to) sing to him when he was younger.
