Tbh idk if I could handle a Raven cycle adaptation unless I wrote it 😭 so here are some things I’d do as an (unqualified) aspiring filmmaker:
1. Film in Banner Elk and Wake Forest, North Carolina
Tumblr media
Like tell me this does not give you Henrietta vibes
2. Soundtrack with songs like Take Me Home, Country Roads by John Denver, Nightjar and the Nightingale by Roo Panes, The View Between Villages by Noah Kahan, etc etc
3. Idk how recognizable Duke campus is but
Tumblr media
Aglionby?
3. Score would have lots of acoustic guitars, a mix of like folk sounds and kind of lulling, plinking magical sounds, with a lot of rising, inspirational bits. In really intense scenes, really loud natural sounds like rain and wind rustling through trees and birdsong
4. You know when you’re outside, and you say something, and it echoes, but not really, it’s just that your voice is quieter than everything else because this is not your world, it belongs to the birds and the wind and the rain? THAT
5. Tons of focus on the idle scenes, like Noah and Blue running through Monmouth and messing stuff up, Gansey and Blue’s phone calls, Ronan street racing, Adam’s moments of thought, all things that you might cut if you were trying to focus on the plot but the plot of TRC is NOTHING without these scenes
6. That one scene in the Dream Thieves where Ronan is just sitting at the playground with Matthew, and it’s interrupted by Niall Lynch’s will. IMAGINE THAT AS A VOICEOVER just intercut with their conversation, or even as a rlly disjointed flashback
7. Adam Driver as Barrington Whelk
8. Theo James as the Gray Man
I’ll do a whole other one on characters but anyway those are my thoughts

Shoutout to my mom who let me dump a bunch of spoilers on her so I could cry about Neteyam. Finally had the chance to get all that sobbing that dehydration robbed me of yesterday out of my system, and I’m feeling a little better now. I mean, the situation still makes me sad, but I don’t think I’ll continue to have my eyes suddenly start leaking every other hour like they did for most of today. :’)
so uuuhhh now that I’ve more or less gotten over that hurdle, I can finally sit down and make a post about all the other stuff from the movie! So here’s a list of some of the other thoughts and observations I had, not exactly comprehensive cuz this is all coming after 24 hours of grieving so I may not remember every single little thought I had, but here we go anyways (also tagging @tenebrius-excellium cuz you said you wanted to hear my thoughts):
-I just want to watch the first five or so minutes on loop for a while (although maybe without the cuts to Neytiri singing the songcord because 🥲, good golly the moment I saw that shot I, already being familiar with the lore behind songcords, was like oh NOOOOO), just the scenes of those ~14 peaceful years where the kids are growing up and the RDA is gone and everyone is happy together and it’s all just so sweet, this is the content I want, I want more of it, please pretty please, I know it’ll be a while before all the gif-makers are able to get a hold of those scenes but man as soon as they do goodness gracious I’m just gonna stare at it all for hours 😭
-While I was already assuming that the Metkayina didn’t actually know English and that we the audience were only hearing English for convenience, I was expecting that issue not to be directly addressed. So I was pleasantly surprised when it was subtly addressed with Jake’s voiceover about now being familiar enough with the Na’vi language to understand it as easily English as the audio of the kids bickering swapped from Na’vi to English. Theory confirmed!
-Speaking of the Na’vi language, I did feel very excited because I was able to understand some of the unsubtitled lines, which was a goal! so yay!! I mean, I didn’t understand every Na’vi line spoken (some of the longer ones I’ll definitely have to listen to more than once to piece together), but to even understand any of it at all, especially the ones without subtitles, felt very awesome!! dopamine rush babey!!!
-And on that note, the fact that Quaritch of all characters was making an effort to learn the language really surprised me! He struck me as the type of character to not give two craps about that sort of thing but hey. I definitely got a kick of out of Spider absolutely roasting him for his lack of skills hrh (note, I very most certainly do not condone actually mocking new learners making mistakes, obviously, but seeing as this is Quaritch we’re talking about...^^”) Spider’s line here was also a place I even managed to catch a subtitle discrepancy -- iirc, the subtitles read “You sound like a three-year-old!” but the actual line was nga plltxe na ‘eveng ahì’i! you speak like a small child! Which, I mean, y’know, same gist, but it was cool to be able to understand the actual words!! I also greatly enjoyed Spider trying to teach Quaritch the distinction between na and nga, just because man that’s one of those things every learner has been through, idk it was delightful to watch it go down between canon characters hrh
-Speaking of Quaritch and Spider....wow, I was surprised just how early they dropped the “Quartich’s son” bomb. That had been a pretty popular and plausible theory for a while, but I was expecting it to either be left up to interpretation or used as a bombshell later in the film. But nope, from the get-go it’s pretty heavily implied that not only is Quaritch Spider’s biological father, but that they’re both aware of this. So. Yeah, that was certainly a surprise.
-Kiri “I would rather drink acid than have Norm be my biological father” good gracious girl! like I mean yes the idea that Norm and Grace were secretly hookin’ up is obviously preposterous, but what did Norm ever do to you to deserve that reaction ^^; haha
-I mentioned in my High Ground post the three primary theories on Kiri’s origins. Having now seen the movie, I now think the mystical-Eywa-conception theory is by far the most likely. However, canonically it still remains a mystery/up to interpretation. Perhaps we’ll get more answers in movie 3...
-Y’know what, vulgarity is not typically my type of humor, but Lo’ak flippin’ Quaritch the double bird when asked to let him see his fingers did get a chuckle out of me hrh
-hey um yo the Metkayina kids were absolute JERKS, what the heck?? like good golly heckin’ rude. Except for Tsireya she’s chill I like her :)
-Personally I don’t think the story of this movie is a total rehash of the first one overall, but I can very mostly definitely see how people would consider it so. There were several lines in two scenes in particular, the one where the Sullies arrive at the Metkayina clan and the one with the tulkun hunters, that were just soooooo similar to lines from the first movie, not quite verbatim but certainly awkwardly close. I can absolutely see this becoming a common complaint from internet critics.
-Tuk pretty much solely exists to make the audience go d’awwwww!!, and y’know what, that’s ok because boy did she succeed :’)
-unfortunately, Quaritch’s ikran has by far the coolest design of all the ikrans, like bruh that color palette is heckin’ dope. what a shame ur now stuck with this jerk lol. Though I did snicker at Quaritch feeling the need to bond with the ikran “the hard way” solely because he couldn’t stand to be outdone by Jake lol
-I liked Lo’ak and Payakan’s friendship, it was very sweet. Also very interesting design-wise that a tulkun’s queue is in his mouth, and that the mouth has more of those bioluminescent patterns on the inside.
-The fact that the tulkun hunters are 100% aware that the species they’re hunting is fully sapient feels very ick to me. Sir that’s...that’s murder. Good gracious. and um “tulkun brain juice stops human aging” wh...what?? can uh...can we get some more explanation on that??? like is that gonna be somehow relevant to later movies or is it just some arbitrary thing to make the brain juice valuable, valuable enough to attempt to justify murder idk but uh....yyyyyyeah 😬
-minor thing, but I was surprised that the swimming baby from the trailer was, in fact, not Ronal’s. In fact, we never actually meet Ronal’s baby, which, again, surprised me. Why make her pregnant if we don’t get to see the baby, it feels kinda random ^^; to link her to her spirit tulkun who just had a calf I guess?? idk. once again, maybe it’ll become more relevant in movie 3.
-until proven otherwise, I am heretofore declaring that final “a son for a son” line to be Spider’s official adoption into the Sully family 😭😭😭
anyways, I guess that’ll do for now. I’m sure there was other stuff but I’ve been sitting here typing for over an hour already. Perhaps later I’ll come back with more comments, idk. I’ll be seeing the movie again next week with the rest of my family, so maybe I’ll notice different things/remember stuff that got swallowed up in the feels. Will I cry more than I did on my first viewing because I’m gonna try not to go in dehydrated again, or less because by then I’ll have had a week to process and accept everything? I have literally no idea. Guess we’ll have to just wait and see...

himitsu no aipri episode 1 (a week late)
it's been so long since I've written about a priseries (or any other idol) show... I'm realizing that I legit didn't think I'd ever get the chance again. I got tired of doing it before because I felt like I was either complaining too much (planet) or just happy abt everything that was happening (primagi) and thus had nothing interesting to say either way, but ever since watching aipri on sunday I've been looking forward to this... I think I'm just happy about new idol anime content after such a long drought tbh but it's something good that aipri has already brought us, no matter what you or I think of anything else about it.
I missed the first 5 minutes bc I was reading bad fanfiction in bed to wake up (nigh daily routine) and totally forgot abt aipri... then I did remember and had to sprint to my computer, but the stream kept stopping so I missed some critical stuff throughout. I liked the ep okay, but maybe actually seeing all of it will improve it?
ohhh ok it starts off with those cute lemon coords in the op. actually this does help, those coords are easily my favs that I've seen in aipri so far. esp Mitsuki's blue one is sooo cute... I am saying this as a person that buys every single blue gingham item of clothing I come across though haha. I will say that the coord & dance totally don't match the sort of sweeping fairytale (just mistyped that as dairytale. hm) majesty that the bgm and voiceover is going for, but...
oh, I didn't know that Mitsuki had a snippet of performance in here. I've seen it in gameplay videos already, I like it ok---wow, it's already over.
the way Mitsuki is pausing for her viewers to answer is just like shows for preschoolers... they're really going after that age group, huh. (do actual streamers do stuff like that....?)
oh, I already saw Himari get a call from her sister. looks like I only missed 1 minute.
that is the ugliest anime dog I've ever seen, hands down, but Hiiro is cute. I'm sure she's well on her way to being the Non or whoever the prichan little sister was of aipri, in terms of popularity.
I do think it is very, very interesting that in this pretty series anime which is aimed at perhaps the youngest audience yet, they have put the mc in a dorm, away from her family. weird. actually I am for the first time realizing exactly how many anime have schools with dorms. you'd think japan is overflowing w boarding schools but idk of a single one lmao...
Mitsuki: it sure was the right decision to move into the dorm!
Himari: (completely ignores her statement to bring up aipri)
Himari's look out of aipri is really cute, I've finally decided. it's a shame that her twintails as an aipri are such a weird shape??? why do they curve up on the outside like that, all I can see is a large intestine when I look at them...... :(
the first time I watched this my internet cut out just as Mitsuki's face was approaching Himari's. I knew what she was doing bc of the comic in the aipri fanbook, but still it was like, oh! looks like it's gonna be another totally straight pretty series show!
oh man, the op. the song itself is cute and catchy, but this vtuber's voice is just too much, and it gets more too much as the song goes on. I get the appeal of her being a "real-life aipri", and presumably she's popular so her fans might be drawn to watch, but I hope she doesn't sing the next op too..... oh you know what would be kind of cool is if every op was sung by a different vtuber. that way if one sucked we wouldn't have to hear them again, and they'd showcase a lot of different people.
Meganee is especially exceptionally cute in her op cameo!!!
oh. A Crush. let it be insignificant 🙏 but if they become idol princesses too I'll allow it.
I like Chii's voice a lot, and her passion regarding aipri, but on the list of things I'm finding myself saying "oh. shame :( " about is her unfortunate hairstyle. also speaking of things that remind me of other things, her name Chii Mamiya sounds like "chi mamire" (blood-soaked) or "chi mame" (blood blister). surely I am not the only Japanese understander who hears this.
Yusa Kouji-sensei has by far my fav character design in this show. he is officially my favorite aipri.
wow, it's the classic post-covid tv broadcast opening ceremony... a chillingly real element in this fantasy rich kid school. irl this is the first year since covid we've had in-person opening ceremonies in many schools, it's a shame they don't get to at paradise academy yet lmao
I'm not even going to touch this whole welcome speech. I'm just going to slowly back away and pretend like I didn't see anything.
I love the aikatsu-level background character design in this classroom!! bicolor twintails is cute.
I wonder if these elementary schoolers are relevant or are just there to show how many people are watching Himari.
lmao despite what I said about Chii I think we were sharing the same braincell when she said "Her Victoria levels are out of control!!" they totally are!!
am I misunderstanding this or did Victoria not ban aipri? didn't she say "in moderation" only...? this is literally the same kind of thing schools say irl abt cutting down on screen time. just more dramatic.
so the elementary kid is relevant. Yuma... will he be an aipri too? if not, why would he even exist?
I didn't catch the first time around that this bracelet was the one uh, Candy Motif was fiddling with in the student council meeting. where'd she get it from?
this is the least amount of love I've ever seen put into a commercial break eyecatch.
are the aimus... cute? I can't see it...
it's very funny that the lipstick immediately disappears when they go 3d. they knew it looks bad, and they've still gotta cram it in there for that single second to sell toys.
this cgi. I think everyone's said it so far, but it's really not the best... I think I might like the game's graphics a little better, even. I do like seeing the coords lit up at least.
P.O.P.P.Y is a cute enough song. it's just barely on the listenable side of the line for me, but I do think it's a great match for what aipri is going for. also that is definitely a dance that was made for preschoolers to imitate.
buzzalyume... idk if anyone is aware or not, but buzz is a word that's in really common use regarding social media in japan atm. like you would say "that's buzzing" (literally I mean, figuratively it's more like "that's all the buzz" like the english use of the word) about something that's all over your timeline or whatever. so it's not totally out of left field for them to choose that word in particular, but it doesn't mean that it sounds any less forced, that's for sure!!
Bear Bear Bear's voice is cute.
I don't like these emoji reactions all over the screen. not cute.
the ed is cute.
...finally, I watched it all. whew. I have to say, I was not wowed by it! but it was fine. it's far better than having no pretty series at all. I keep thinking "I'll put off my opinion till I know more about it" about aipri and I'm tempted to say it again now--in this episode we barely met the main two characters in favor of worldbuilding. it kind of makes sense as the first ep of a little kid show, but will the rest of the show stay at this same level of character depth? it's way too early to say. but for me, that's what'll determine how much I like it.

okay this is a genuine question i have for my followers, so yes, i’ve been yapping on about my current VA project that i’ve been working on (alongside tumblr reqs) and i was just wondering, is that something you guys actually wanna hear more about?
because i’ve been thinking of making a side blog dedicated to my voiceover stuff so my fic people don’t have to hear me yap about it here. but idk if anyone actually is interested in it other than me 😭
although i haven’t announced to much about it, what i will say is it treads into fandub/parody territory. and yes, it is hh/hb related, that’s all my lips will allow me to say rn 😔
so i will say, if you guys aren’t tired of hearing me bitch about it, and enough of you are interested in further updates, then sure, i can make that happen. :)

I finished the first season of Veronica Mars! And decided to stop after a couple of episodes of season 2. Idk, I guess I got tired of the lack of closure for many plot lines. The finale was interesting tho, I loved the final villain.
Share your thoughts on the show (here's supposed to be a question mark but tumblr wouldn't let me)
Hi bestie I'm sorry it's taken me so long to talk to you about this show! I'm gonna make up for taking forever by writing like, an essay haha brace yourself
I think that Veronica Mars is a good show that runs into some classic 2000s tv stumbling blocks, manages to do some things that infuriate me personally beyond reason, but ALSO manages to have some elements that are so powerful and so well executed that I'm honestly astonished it got made. These kinda peter out and become muddled over the years, but oh well, we'll always have season one <3
In brief, the 2000s messiness, in varying degrees of offensiveness to the world and to me personally:
The aforementioned plot lines that go nowhere <3
It's case-of-the-week, some cases are gonna suck! What can you do lol
The black best friend who doesn't ever really get any satisfying arcs or attention given to him as a character who contributes beyond letting our protagonist have dialogue with him rather than exclusively monologuing in voiceover
How they handle race in general ofc. Like while I think that in the actual plots of the show there are good intentions (and sometimes good material!) in depicting the racism of this insular hiarchical society, racism in the real world affects the writing by giving the characters of color very little to do, and over all they are taken less seriously by the narrative.
Veronica's rape plot line. I actually think this plot started out very strong! But the minute the show focuses directly on it the writing gets lost in the weeds of plot twists and rival love interests, and I really think the points they were originally trying to make get buried.
Deadbeat Mom ran off she's got a single dad raising her (i feel like the number of single dads in media is exponentially larger than the real number of single dads in life. it's propaganda. and its misogynistic. but I digress)
The stuff I personally hate:
The romances :) lol. lmao, even. (I would love to rant about this but I really think that's not something that deserves to be on what is currently a measured review of the show as a whole)
The stuff that's great:
The noir homage: It's just. It's so good. It's so fucking good. This is to noir detective stories what american vandal will be to true crime 20 years later. I want to give whoever first thought "hey, being an ostracized teen girl is kinda like being a hardboiled noir detective," a raise and a kiss MWAH <3 A+ for tone! Veronica lives on the edges of her society (high school), allowing her to see all of it's pieces and hypocrisy, turning her cynical and aloof. And she's a teenager who solves crimes :D She's funny and self aware of her role, but never in such a way that it feels like lampshading or winking at the audience. They take it seriously--they take HER seriously, and that makes the show work.
Lilly: The central case of the show, the murder of Veronica's best friend and Veronica's revenge-driven mission to find her killer, is where the first season gets its power. Veronica gets to have the noir detective plot line of being haunted by the death of a woman she loved and driven by revenge, and it is so much more powerful here than I've ever seen it in its original form. Lilly is a tragedy, she is an unflinching look at the sexual exploitation of teenage girls and the casualness with which violent men will turn that violence on them, she is a messy bratty bitch of a sixteen year old, and Veronica loves her. Lilly gets to be complicated because Veronica, who knew her and loves her, is telling us her story. There are a lot of people who are affected by Lilly's death, but this show is about Veronica, and her reaction to the murder of her friend is what matters to the writers and the viewers. Once again, the show takes Veronica (and her grief and her rage and her love) seriously, and there is a lot of power in that. I think the reason the later seasons struggle is because they simply can't stand up to the emotional intensity that made up the core of season one.

hey idk if you've shared it before and I missed it in The Everything of the past week but I was watching Hulu and I think there's a new 6B trailer? It's pretty short but it has a little bit of bobby's voiceover from 6x09, some stuff from 6x10, the shot of chimney and maddie at the hospital in 6x11, I think a scene at the lafd training center, a car driving into a funeral (?), and some other shots I don't recognize
I'm looking into this because I haven't been watching Hulu lately and I just got two back-to-back asks about it lol. Hopefully, I'll have it to post soon!

What would u recommend as the best way to get into genshin preferably without playing it (i would but my computer sucks shit and it'll overheat real bad </3) could try playing it if you'd say that's 100% the best experience but I mainly wanna interact with the story anyway :P
UM I think probably just watching YouTube compilations of the Archon quests (main storyline) starting from the beginning. There’s probably decent play by plays out there. Outside the main archon quests I honestly recommend people just…pursue any character or lore tidbit they hear about and look into that. Especially if they’re content to just be a more casual fan + also considering the fact genshin is sometimes super cluttered and overwhelming in how u catch up on 3+ yrs of material.
I think I enjoy genshin the most because of the experience of actively playing it, but idk considering genshin being so big and having a lot of limited events, and all characters having profiles of their lore u can only access in game when you have them…it’s not uncommon players go to YouTube videos and wikis for stuff anyways LOL
Like, for example. If someone wanted to understand my posts about hat radish (wanderer and Nahida) as characters, they’d get 90% of the vibe from just playing the archon quests and maybe reading their character wiki pages (lore & voiceovers mostly)…but you might get a little confused on some fandom jokes or common characterization details you’d see around because oh it turns out nahida calling wanderer “hat guy” was a joke originating from a limited event that ran like 10 months ago, people using xyz imagery with wanderer comes from his character demo/trailer, in a nahida meta post I may mention I’m inferring part of her personality based off what she does in her story quest. This sounds kind of confusing but it’s a lot simpler once you’ve kinda absorbed the archon quests and just, go digging into where lore/characters you’re interested in show up outside of that. (But also. I think genshin struggles w being digestible esp for new fans/players) Idk!

#there will be no scuttlebutt slander at least not on my watch // 😂😂
I think another reason too people hate it is because of who the voiceover actor was. I personally don’t mind Awkwafina, but I didn’t know that she apparently used a blaccent and said (or did) other racist stuff before filming TLM. Idk if she does that anymore though.
see, i didn't know about any of this. i mean, to be fair, i know absolutely nothing about awkwafina & i was never interested enough to do any research. i only know some people say her voice is really annoying & this was one of the reasons they hated the song, true. but some of them were also rude to lin for writing it & for making daveed diggs rap again (i mean, let's be honest, he doesn't even rap that much in this one, it's mostly her sooooo... plus, if you hate daveed diggs rapping you can just go fuck yourself).
objectively tho (yeah right), it's a fun silly song, it's not a masterpiece but we have to keep in mind that it was never supposed to be one & actually, the target audience of this movie was kids, & they clearly had fun during this scene so that's a win if you ask me.

Spoilers for Renfield!
So in honor of the return of Daily Dracula, I went and saw Renfield today, and ngl it is such a fun movie! It's campy, and to say there is gratuitous blood and gore is um. An understatement. But there was an underlying love for the source material that was so awesome to see. They did yoink our Good Friend Jonathan Harker's backstory for Renfield, cause now he's the lawyer trying to land a real estate deal, and I do think they could have gone with the source material backstory for Renfield at least a bit considering it was explained in a short voiceover, but Awkwafina's character is named Quincy, the cartel(?) that joins up with Dracula are the Lobos, ie wolves, the whole bug thing.
Aside from that, I think the story itself is really well written. Someone really went, how do we write a vampire-familiar relationship as a co-dependant relationship with Dracula as a narcissist, and while I haven't studied much psychology there was definitely a lot of stuff that was accurate to what I have read. Just the 0 to 100 Dracula does as he's manipulating Renfield is so believable, and also makes you believe that yeah, Renfield has stuck around for so long because he hasn't had a way to recognize how Dracula manipulates him to stay.
The actors are great in this too, Nic Cage is over the top and campy as Dracula (seriously he wears a suit jacket with like sequined lapels at one point) but really makes it believable how this guy can just charm and manipulate victims left and right. I don't remember the exact chart for the differences between poor little meow meow and such, but Nick Hoult is such a poor little meow meow in this. Just has a single kinda-high and then gets body slammed into a low, it's great. The dumbass Freddy Lobo is cartoonishly stupid and incompetent and gets weirdly fixated on being better than Renfield who goes dude we've met twice. Also his mom has chemistry with Dracula, which, look, I ship it. It's believable on her part, idk if Dracula is capable of not seeing people as food but I 100% would see her making him turn her and then stepping on him.
This has been kinda incoherent but dude this was such a fun movie. Plot beats and character choices made sense, there were nice little callbacks. I just had a lot of fun watching.

#0 L.A. Without a Map (1998)
Tumblr media
⭐⭐
A British writer pursues a young actress to Hollywood and needs all the help he can get to win her love. - Summary from IMDB
The good:
Holy Young Tennant Batman!!
Moss is a literal king, best character in the movie.
Their bromance was the 2nd best relationship in it.
Barbara is a girl's girl fr (ref the scene in the parking lot at the club thing).
Richard being truly terrible at fighting.
All the Johnny Depp hallucinations.
Barbara talking to her dead dad. Awww they both have imaginary friends.
Julie x Moss is the 1st best relationship
The bad:
Oh boy second hand embarrassment.
The plot was, um, interesting ig. Idk it was kind of lacking but that could just be me.
Richard sucking at fighting goes here too cause it was too embarrassing to watch sometimes.
So many bad vibes from like everything
This series of stuff I wrote in my notes "Jealousy is not a good look for him. Oh god he's going insane. God why is he such an asshole. I was worried about her but he's the problem. He's kind of sucking actually."
Where are the likable characters.
I had to stop a few times
Random:
The voiceover is kinda silly but I like hearing his voice
Did they really get Johnny Depp for this movie??
He's so charismatic and also such a loser
Moss stays winning
THEY DID GET JOHNNY DEPP
God his hair is stupid (1:32:00 ish)
Overall rating is a ★★★. I would have given it two stars but it had enough redeeming qualities that that felt too harsh. To be honest I didn't enjoy the movie. The ending was unsatisfactory and I didn't even really want them together at that point. It becomes pretty hard to root for Richard about an hour in as he devolves into madness. Ik they sort of covered that but I didn't care enough about his character for it to be interesting. That being said it was very funny and the acting is good at least to my untrained eye. The soundtrack was pretty decent too. And of course the best part is that you get to stare at David Tennant for almost two hours.
Edit: No actually you know what after thinking about it for a day this was a fucking terrible movie. I think my detachment and utter lack of investment in the plot and characters blinded me to how awful it was. Richard and Barbara's relationship is supposed to be the main plot point except it's so dull that I didn't care about it at all. I couldn't even care enough to root against it. Richard is an asshole that you don't want to succeed but Barbara isn't likable enough either. AND THEN, when you think that maybe he might be facing some minor consequences for his repeatedly terrible behaviour SHE GOES BACK TO HIM. Who's wish fulfillment self insert is this. The only redeeming qualities are that it is consistently very funny and Moss is a king.

tilts my head at a 45° angle curiously. like cat
Tumblr media
so the song itself is about a guy's crush getting with someone else and him trying to move on from her but being unable to
the video. god. okay.
so, theres this constant usage of minigames with two characters (the baseball one, the one with the guy and girl & the meerkats, the golf one, the seesaw one, the one with the like. factory? idk how to describe it lol, etc etc). one interesting thing is that in lots of these the characters are physically separate or not very close which is probably unintentional but its very fun.
theres also plenty of innuendo, im thinking specifically the screw minigame and the fish minigame which can both be seen as innuendos for sex (the fish taking the bait, and screwing).
theres also games about hitting stuff away which one could interpret as rejecting advances if you wanted
AND THEN. THE FLAMINGOS. CHEER READERS. the constant couples or singles turn into a group, probably symbolising a party or other such gathering. the couples are still there but it's more frequently singles or groups, with more fakeouts (i.e making the player input on one game, but it changes to another game as they make the input).
ALSO. the factory minigame w/ the balls. in the start it was both of the thingies that were inputting, but later on it becomes just the one, further symbolising the distance between thsi guy and his crush.
THE WRESTLER GAME. come ON its so obvious. big strong guy w/ a girl its SO obvious what this is symbolising.
and then. built to scale is the most obvious innuendo of all of them, featuring a literal tube going into a literal hole it is glaringly obvious.
it goes back to the tennis game w/ the planes and while the characters were physically separate before, this is even more separate! and it keeps going!!
the small fish getting chased away by a bigger fish. do i need to say anything
the previous couples and singles turn into constant trios, with fakeouts too; the player (i.e the guy w/ the crush) is never able to hit the ball in the baseball game, always getting a fakeout into a trio. im not even slightly normal about this. and then at the end the girl is gone from the bench, and the feminine voiceover for the baseball game is gone…. im so normal. im ordinary.

hey who are you and how do you know matsujun were you in the arashi fandom or did you just like his dramas? i must know i keep looking for LJ arashi people circa 2010-2012 and you are right that is the vibe
heyy im sorry to say im not an arashi fan and i know jun from his dramas but youre giving me an opportunity to talk about him and ill go berserk, can i? thanks
im pretty sure i know jun because of hana yori dango (its been so long since i last watched it that i forgot that was my first encounter with him); i was in middle school, the show was everything to me, i had the fattest crush on mr. curls-for-days, you know the drill - checked his age and got depressed - i was like twelve? he hadn't turned 30 yet but it was still a bit too big of a gap for our love to succeed :') (not to mention the gap between japan and and my eastern european ass)
anyways i decided i am here for him, im loyal, lets see what hes all about; so i find out hes a part of arashi and not only that, i find their tv show (in quite the abominable quality cause the good old days); so i started listening to them (i had a fave song, i just remembered it was "bittersweet" smth?) and one thing i remember clearly is how i was determined to learn japanese so i could enjoy their variety show without subs (barely any translations available, saw some subtitled bits here and there that were enough to get me hooked and leave me blueballed) so arashi were, in a way, part of the reason i studied japanese in high school.
i recently sought out matsumoto jun's dramas again so i rewatched kimi wa petto (and loved it sm more??) and watched some other stuff and i just- idk hes just lovely (also i stumbled upon this audio of arashi doing a voiceover of that one domyouji scene; screw it, i just searched for it so ill link it, i still cackle every time i see it)
all in all, im just one of many girls who were honoured with knowledge of matsujun (and arashi) in their tween years
