I'm surprised by how popular cold pragmatic strategist + independent/isolated/dislikes company is for China characterizations, like on a cultural level because to be honest Chinese culture is, to me, quite hot and fast and loud. Chinese people forming hella cliques when outside of Chinese majority spaces but also

> tend to be loud > very interconnected and social culture > very touchy-feely/physical culture > some of the positive cultural aspects that come to mind for me have to do with the value of hospitality and being warm and open with sharing food and space > quite casual I feel? I'm not the biggest fan of the 'rude and loud with no filter' stereotype but like… LOL > no match for Chinese parties/big get-togethers at restaurants > I associate China with 热闹 ...

Not to say he wouldn't have a good head on his shoulders and a lot of skill with strategy, with power, a strong hold on his emotions and a level of ruthlessness befitting of a powerful old empire - I certainly wouldn't want to disregard government, the historic actions of the nation as a political entity, so on and so forth. But I also want to avoid when he becomes so political he's not recognizably Chinese on a cultural level. When I'm discussing Japan or say, France (I promise I've discussed him before just not in public LOL) there's always an element of trying to capture both the behavior of government and its members/ruling class, as well as general cultural and social elements… for Japan, I feel a lot of his 'heat' comes from government while his 'cold' comes from culture, while for China his 'cold' comes from government while his 'heat' comes from culture. And I was thinking of ways to balance that.

I loved Into the Spiderverse and it was a beautiful and game changing movie but Across the Spiderverse?? Oh it is special!!

Seeing Rio and Jeff and Miles and the way they communicate and the spanglish and Mile’s B in Spanish immediately riling his parents and the panadería with the lady decorating the cake and telling Miles to write shorter and the counselor’s let’s play up the struggling immigrant family angle that isn’t even true and everyone gathered around the way the do and Mile’s tia immediately going míralo!! Look how big you’ve gotten and the way she gets so close exactly the way tias just do and all the different dishes and the carne guisada con papa y zanahoria and Rio’s “I bet she doesn’t even speak Spanish” looking Mile’s and Gwen’s way and!!

“Bendición mami.” y “Que Dios te bendiga, mijo.”

And Miles’ grabbing Miguel an empanada and immediately going Tio!! And the ever so detailed difference between Miles’ and Miguel’s pronunciation and accents and speed and fluidity of which they speak Spanish and English and Spanglish because there’s also the generational differences and and and!!!

All of it!! Every single beautiful and wonderful detail I can’t remember right now because this is getting long but that’s so easy to see and process and feels just right and so natural because it’s done with such care and love and respect it is so so special!!

god i want. an au where it dosn't work. where it's just arr g'raha who's woken up, and he doesn't have all these memories and all these people keep looking at him like they're mourning someone. the world has changed and time has changed and all the people he knows have changed, but he hasn't changed, he was just sleeping, just sleeping, and the world nearly ended several times and apparently he helped prevent yet another end but he has no memory of this. they want him to join the scions. he does not know these people. (he barely knows the warrior of light, now, but did he ever truly know them in the first place?) his little sister is alive and well. she looks at him like a ghost. she's changed, and she's older than him now. he acts bratty and loud and brash to cover up the fact that he does not know anything it seems, and he is tired but he was sleeping for so long, so how could he be tired?

he doesn't know these people. they seem to know him. he wonders if he'd killed someone, when it was him and not that exarch who woke up. he wonders if it should have been him who was "killed" in that way, if it is him that lives and not that man who had known and become friends with all these figures from legend. he wonders if he'll always be fated to be a historian one step back from everything, because he simply cannot be a hero.

aww that sounds really fun!! i've never visited Wien before. any recommendation for places that should be visited there?? also, i hope you had fun!! ^-^

It was lovely! The most famous museum is the Belvedere, and although I'm not a fan of medieval/renaissance paintings there was also a contemporary art exhibit and boy there were some really weird artworks. Loved it. Tickets are free for people under 19 years of age so if you're young you should give it a shot!

We also visited the Prater, a big park just out of the city centre which gave me a bit of Central Park vibes. We even went on the ferris wheel :)

All in all I think the city was really visitor friendly, as they even installed loads of free water fountains to fight the extreme heat in the city, and I admit I was saved by those multiple times. Idk if what I'm saying is right, but on one of them it said they were called Brunhilde hahaha. My sister and I called them Katinka bc of Stranger Things tho. It was just so fun to run around the city and be like: "I'm thirsty! Let's see if we can find a Katinka!"

Last thing, bc I've already talked too much: the subway SLAPS. I've always been amazed by trains and a huge fan of the subway masters (pokemon characters, dont mind me obsessing over them since I was 14 lol. The fandom knew a big renaissance in the last year bc of a new game, and I'm just sooooo happy) but I don't really get to take them often as I live in a small town forgotten by god, so I was smiling like an idiot half of the time. let's go back to normal before anyone here starts to really doubt my sanity, the subway was well organized, relatively clean and not too crowded, as well as easy to understand (and mind it, I can't speak a word of german) and always on time. So yeah, sorry for the long ass ramble but the city was amazing <3
