Another song for Pride month about breaking social norms, this one goes for aromantic people and all people who don't want to pair up.
The song is "Ai, mare" by the band Tito Pontet (a band that mostly makes cumbia, reggae and calypso music) featuring Noelia Llorens "Titana" (a singer of traditional Valencian music).
These are the lyrics in Valencian Catalan and the translation to English:
Nits i vespres plens de festa, / juntes 'nem perdent el seny, / el meu cor balla amb la resta, / que sense elles no soc res.
Nights and evenings full of festivities, / together we gradually lose common sense, / my heart dances with the rest, / for I'm nothing without them.
We will sing our life, / this is our choice, / I don't care anymore about all that narrowing down, / I don't want more redemption.
I don't want to have a man, / better maiden than married. / And to all those who criticise me: / you'll never hurt me again.
With no fear we face the wave, / we swim in front of sharks. / Shaking off the norm / because the prize is so much better.
We will sing our life, / this is our choice, / I don't care anymore about all that narrowing down, / I don't want more redemption.
Jo no vull tenir un home, / l’altar mai he de xafar. / Consellers i xafarderes, / ja m’haureu de perdonar.
I don't want to have a man, / I shall never step on an altar. / Consultants and gossipers, / you'll have to forgive me*.
*this last line is made in an ironic tone.

Another example of linguistic discrimination from this week.
News of 12th November 2021
(Note: "Valencian" and "Catalan" are two names for the same language.)
The band Tito Pontet had a concert in Montanejos (in the Valencian Country), but Montanejo's city hall has made them cancel the concert because the band sings in Valencian.
The concert was scheduled since September, but on November 11th the mayor found out that the band's lyrics are in Valencian and decided to cancel it and, instead, they will look for a band that sings in Spanish to schedule it when Tito Pontet should have been playing.
The reason? According to the city hall, singing in Valencian will provoke "far right-wing individuals and we [the city hall] want to avoid riots."
Sadly, that can be true. Speaking Valencian, even in our own country, is often faced with prejudice. Neonazis / Spanish supremacists attack cultural centres that do activities related to Valencian/Catalan culture and language: remember the constant attacks to the Tres i Quatre bookshop, the annual gatherings of neonazis in Blanquerna, the bombs in Joan Fuster's house, the murder of Miquel Grau...
And, since this is Montanejos, remember Guillem Agulló. He was young Valencian boy who was pro-independence and antifascist. Guillem was on a camping trip with his friends when he was 18 years old, when a group of neonazis murdered him while singing Franco's anthem and doing the fascist salute. Read my previous post about how Guillem's murderers were set free by the Spanish justice system that refused to treat it as a hate crime.
So yes, maybe our existence "provokes" neonazis. But the answer can NEVER be to give in to the neonazis' wish and stop us from existing in public. If we can't speak Valencian in the Valencian Country, if we can't speak Catalan in the Catalan Countries, then where? Are we not allowed to exist in public because neonazis' wishes are more important than our existence?
This is just another case of neonazis and politics working together, using each other as a justification, for the purpose of imposing Spanish on the territories that Spain occupies but that have their own language and culture. If they were truly worried about neonazis, they would do something about them instead of barring the people they hate.
Stop the discrimination of Valencian speakers! Valencians have the right to speak and sing in Valencian in the Valencian Country!
