So, today was actually pretty good.

After watching my usual Saturday morning cartoons (plus Eerie Indiana), I did a LOT of roleplaying, went out for a nice long walk to check out my local Spirit Halloween store again (and some other Halloween stuff in other stores)--and I feel, between that and the fact that I decided to rewatch TNBC today, makes up for the fact that I ended up not going out to a corn maze with this one group (partly because of money issues, partly because I didn’t exactly feel comfortable heading out at night with a group of strangers).

Anyway, speaking of Halloween stuff, guess tomorrow I’m going to get back to my one Halloween pic...at least start inking it. I’m...not looking forward to that, but I’m not going to push myself, and hope that it turns out well.

Quick shout-out to @papabendy/ @thatradfailure for the message on my one post from yesterday...I actually really needed to see that after the night I had last night. Thanks, mate 🥲

We went through the door ||

Always the butt of the jokes. Even in early childhood, he was constantly made fun of. As the youngest of his siblings, Bastion would always sit back and take it. But as he grew older he learned to fight back. Growing up along side their cousin, Osten, he learned a few tricks of his own. Fighting back with more than just words as Sharlene and Lucien mocked him. Planting things for his sister to find (such as her worst fears lurking around the corner) and finding new ways to make his brother look like the dumb one rather than him. It was with these tactics that Bastion became his cousin’s favorite and his “star pupil”. Though the other two were never too far behind and pined for Osten’s approval as much as he gave to the youngest of the trio. But nothing was ever good enough and under his cousin’s wing he went. Besides, his little talent of making others decay from the inside out ever so slowly with only the touch of his palm was too good to pass up, right?

As they grew older, he learned that all Osten did was for revenge. Anything to get back at the Skellington family and their son, Jack. While Bastion never really cared much either way he was glad to finally find solace in his cousin. Thus going along with whatever his older cousin wanted. His job, along with his brother and sister, was to befriend the other boy and let him think he could trust the three of them. Now, with Sharlene and Lucien that was harder than they thought but with Bastion? It was a piece of cake and Jack grew rather fond of him pretty quickly. Entrusting all his plans for the future of their city with him and like a good little boy, Bastion would run along and tell Osten everything with a smile. When Jack decided to move realms for a case study, he invited the other boy to go right along with him. 

Bastion happily agreed; as long as his family could follow. Now, in a brand new realm full of opportunity the trio found themselves working alongside their cousin as he opened a casino. Though if he was being honest with himself... Bastion is beginning to feel rather guilty for what he’s doing to Jack. He’s starting to rethink his choices and whether or not he should be honest for a change. But who really knows? Osten was the first person to really see his true potential and who is he to ignore that? Nobody; that’s who.

Sharlene and Lucien Lyles-->”Kidnap the Sandy Claws, throw him in a bag!”

He loves his siblings, He really does. But most of the time his sister’s constant retorts of his intelligence gets to him. And his brother’s cruel remarks only rubs salt in his wounds. Being in constant competition with them is getting exhausting.

Osten Bogs-->”If I was on his oogie list, I’d get out of town.”

Closest thing he’ll ever get to a real brother. He was there for him when no one else saw potential in him. How can he ignore that?

I just saw some posts you reblogged from an old ask jack and sally blog and now I'm inspired \(TOT)/

I saw that they haven't posted since 2012, and as far as i know, nobody has tried to pick something similar up. I don't just want to blatantly copy this person, even though I know there are a ton of ask accounts out there. Would I do all the tnbc characters??? Would I even keep up with it??? I know asks blogs aren't as big of a thing as they used to be, but it'd still be fun.

I guess I'm just asking for your advice?? Idk you seem like a pretty good person to ask about this lol

Ooh! I think I know what one you’re talking about! I love the art, responses, and headcanons from that blog. I wish I had been around when it was active. :( Crazy to think 2012 was so long ago...

I’ve seen an ask blog or two around for Lock, Shock, and Barrel. I also remember seeing an Oogie Boogie askblog whose responses were actually voiced! Then there was a polyship askblog for Oogie, Sally, and Jack. Of course, there’s also @thetownwecallhome, who operates seasonally. Although I’m not sure if any of these blogs regularly post/answer questions. A friend of mine also used to run an ask/headcanon blog for Finklestein and Jewel, though that one’s on hiatus.

I actually ran an askblog of my own for another fandom. It’s lots of fun! I suggest trying one of your own! It’s a fun outlet to express your headcanons for characters and explore them/the worldbuilding. It’s great for writing practice! (If you aren’t an artist or can’t keep up with drawn responses, I used to respond to questions with icons of the characters!)

Also, some fun fact for this blog: I actually intended for this to be an askblog for Jack and Sally! It was going to be a muse and roleplaying blog as well. I changed my mind when I found I had a lot to talk about with TNBC in general, including their relationship. I would be thrilled to find a new askblog in the fandom! I guarantee I would send many questions its way. :)

It's really up to you, but it is a fun idea I’d love to see in the fandom again!

I said I wasn't going to do these types of posts anymore but... You are a good friend and I couldn't resist the chance to gush about characters I love, so I changed my rules!

Top 5 Comfort Characters:

5: Gengar (Pokemon)

I'm only a casual Pokemon fan since I only played one game and couldn't even beat it, and never followed the anime that closely. However, I do really love all the character/creature designs from the series and how unique and clever they can be. Gengar is relatively simple, but it's just very charming and comical. I love it's purple colour and mischievous personality.

4: Flotsam & Jetsam (The Little Mermaid)

I always liked these two and I suspect a lot of my inspiration for drawing sea serpents and dragons as a kid came from them. They have really cool creepy voices and I like how they speak and move in perfect sync. I guess, as an only child who struggles with loneliness, I often get attached to fictional siblings, especially twins. These are just one example I've grown rather fond of recently.

3: Sally (The Nightmare Before Christmas)

I'm a sucker for musicals and the whole Halloween aesthetic, so TNBC is my jam. Sally has a very appealing design and her voice is just beautiful and comforting to listen to. I love her song and all the covers of it I've heard. I think I admire her for being like, the only sensible person in Halloween Town. Sandy Claws said so himself, lol. Listen to your wife, Jack.

2: Spyro the Dragon (Reignited Trilogy)

I've always loved dragons since I was a little kid, but could never find a piece of media that I thought truly represented them well. I always wanted to play Spyro, but all I had was the dreaded "Enter the Dragonfly." Skip to years later and the Reignited Trilogy came out. I was so happy! Spyro is exactly the type of dragon character I always wanted. Fierce, cute, and feisty. I like seeing him glide and roll around in the grass!

1: Phoebe Spengler (Ghostbusters: Afterlife)

Alright, yes, I've been over this one many times already. I know I'm getting ahead of myself for getting so invested in a character from a movie that's not out yet, but I can't help it! Knowing I'll be able to see her adventures on the big screen someday gives me hope and has helped me get through some tough times. She's the main inspiration behind one of my OCs and the reason I got back into roleplaying as a hobby. I really like her look and what we know of her personality so far. I don't know what the future holds for the GB franchise, but I will defend this adorable little nerd with my life.

Are you positive you can be active?

I can be very active in my evening time on weekdays and all day on my days off, weekends not so much as its the only time I see my partner and friends. On a scale i’m about a 7/10 but at the moment im on covid-19 lockdown so I am very much available to write for the next two weeks at least.

Sadie Teage

Please describe the character for us

I would describe Sadie as the Star tarot card flipped upside down. A girl with so much potential and love and trust in her heart that was cruelly ripped from her by the real world leaving her distrustful, angry and prone to self sabotaging for her own protection . A girl who could have been a kind reflection of her mother or as brilliant as her brother Logan but who had her self confidence poisoned by her malicious father and his evil ways. A girl with a guarded heart and no faith in humanity, a scorpion in a world of frogs. A girl who deep down is still suffering silently, wanting for a better life but never being able to see past the next rent due day. A girl who constantly counts her pennies to keep food on the table for Beckham, who never once lets herself live because she is too afraid of what would happen if she did

Sadie’s dry and cracked lips rested against the battered, old chipped mug that held a substantial amount of bitter black coffee, the heat from the liquid rose up danced against her sharp chin as she shivered all over. The apartment felt as cold as Dante’s Inferno and as her bony fingers decorated with thick rings clutched onto the mug for dear life her gaze drifted towards the open door of Beckham’s room. Sadie exhaled shakily, allowing herself the time to collect her thoughts before her younger brother returned home. Against the plug on the kitchen wall and attached to a charger falling to pieces her phone began to vibrate itself to the edge of the counter. Sadie caught it with one hand just as it began to dangle and frowned at her landlords name across the screen. Locking her phone she placed it back down on the cool counter and rolled her eyes at the charger that had given up. “Piece of crap.” she muttered walking away to the kitchen table where a small notebook containing numbers rested. Setting down her steaming mug of will to live, Sadie propped her hair out of her face and took a seat alone at the table.

Budgeting; something Sadie was not the best it but something that was a necessity to how she survived from week to week. Her income stretched as thinly as she could possibly make it to have her ends met, the empty cupboards mocked her as she scribbled down a grocery list of baked beans, rice, coffee, bread, eggs, milk and porridge. Her gaze once again shifted to Beckham’s room as the temptation to borrow a few dollars built up inside her but almost as quick as it appeared Sadie ushered it out of her brain feeling sick. “New low point Sadie.. new low point” she sighed. Sadie was all too used to ‘borrowing’ from people, a five finger discount at stores, a free sample enthusiast but taking something from her family was a level she couldn’t bare to bring herself down to. Drumming her fingers against the table Sadie pondered on whether or not to contact Logan about her financial situation, ask Beckham contribute more and buy his own damn sugar if he wanted it that badly but she sadly shut down the thoughts feeling guilty. Even know she still wanted to protect them in her own way, not letting them know how bad things were getting would save them in the long run or at least that what she told herself.

Sitting back against the old wooden chair with a wobbly leg Sadie reached for her mug and swallowed a hot gulp of coffee, grimacing at the bitter aftertaste, maybe Beckham was onto something about his sugar. “Fuck– what am I supposed to do..” she whispered to the empty kitchen. Rent was due, the heating was broken, the cupboards were empty and her phone was about to call it a day. Everything was crumbling down around her, the fresh start she swore to herself would be different was now looking more like a hopeful dream she used to have a child. Sadie felt foolish, how did she let herself think she could be anything other than a pitiful, useless child. Tears stung in the back of her eyes as she tried to push back the overwhelming memories of her Father’s violence and heartbreaking words. Sadie knew from a young age she wouldn’t amount to much, that was Logan, she would always just be trailing behind on his coat tails keeping the electricity running. Hot tears ran down her face as Sadie began to imagine her life turning out like her mother’s, no escape from poverty, no happiness, just three rotten children and a house falling down around her.

Quickly Sadie rose to her feet pushing back the chair, she wiped away her tears with the sleeve of her shirt and wiped her nose after. She began to make her way across the kitchen breathing deeply to contain the emotions. Crying wouldn’t solve anything, but getting shit done would. Sadie unplugged her dead and gone charger from the wall and picked up her phone before walking back to the table. She grabbed her jacket off the chair back and her note pad from the table, stuffing it into her pockets. Walking towards the apartment door she fumbled for her key and began to type up a message.

[MSG; ORION]:: hey. you around? feel like causing some chaos.

I haven’t rp’d in like two years so this is me kind of coming back to the scene. Very rusty but if I am successful in joining your lovely group I hope to get back to speed and relearn everything all over again.
