Going insane thinking about Gortash missing Durge only to see them again and realize that they are a different person, trying to resist the urge.
Or better yet
Durge fighting the urge all the way to when they meet Gortash. Him being the only sense of home their body physically remembers, and upon realizing Gortash accepts, no, embraces, all of them, urge included, they let it go, and just are themselfs once again.
No matter what their moral compass says, what their companions say, nothing matters because of they finally found that one piece of home, the only one.
on the topic of astarion being useless, I accidentally built him to be so wildly competent he's the one I break off from the group and send to do every annoying or difficult part of a quest. which I know he would bitch and moan about incessantly if he was aware of this
