Like an Infant

(...) Mama, I just wanna stop hurting. 

I have people that are dear to me. 

Their fire is never-ending, flames scorching my calloused hands and stiff shoulders and big legs. And I’m tired, so I hate them sometimes for it. I lay distance between them when I feel that way.

Mama, I push people away. Always have. But sometimes, I so desperately want to tell them it is because I’m no good. I don’t deserve their warmth and welcome. I want to tell them that I’m capable of tearing their ribcages if I let them linger too close.

Mama, I know you’re hurt by the things I’ve done. When I lay awake at night I pray that you’ll take me back one day, erase all of me until I am bare and pure. I pray that I could be loved just like an infant.

This is from a few years ago but it doesn't change how grateful I am for my mom and everything she does for me. She's the one who takes me to appointments, cares for me and gets up in the middle of the night when I have episodes. She's always a text or phone call away while she's working and she's left more than once to come to my aid. She makes my days special and meaningful in little and big ways that I could never express to her. i love you more than life itself. i never appreciated or understood every little thing you did for me, and for that i am so sorry. i now understand. i now understand why you did the things you did. thank you for always putting me first. for picking me up and driving me around when i couldn’t drive. for always making sure i was fed enough. thank you for still choosing to love me even through my ungrateful, spoiled hateful teenage phase. thank you for always being my number one savour. for picking up the extra shifts to be both an amazing mother and father. for always making sure i had everything i wanted, because you didn’t want me to feel left out from the other kids. for always being there for me, mentally and physically especially when i thought i could handle life on my own. i can’t. i am who i am because of you and i am terrified to live in a world without you. i don’t want to live in a world without you. losing you is something i would never be able to handle or move on from. you taught me that life doesn’t come easy, to be the best i have to do my best. you always pushed me into the right direction whether it was to be a good person, or to focus and do well in school or at work. you were always there. always by my side through everything. and i know it’s your duty as a mother to be there, but thank you for being the best mother a girl could ask for. i love you beyond words could explain.
