One of India’s leading content distribution platform, Tata Play (formerly known as Tata Sky), announced the expansion of its OTT entertainment app Tata Play Binge, to all smartphone users, with no pre-requisite of needing a DTH subscription. OT: SANTIAGO APOALA, OAX. MÉXICO.

Este fin de semana pasado estuve de visita en Santiago Apoala...

Llegar ahí fue en cierto modo un caos.

Fuimos del centro a Nochixtlan, y de ahí a Apoala.

Primero, cuando compramos los boletos a Nochix nos dieron una hora determinada de salida, hora que no fue cumplida porque aún sobraban lugares dentro de la van... Ahí ya íbamos con retraso de al menos unos 30,40 min.

Posteriormente al llegar, teníamos la idea de que salían algún tipo de camionetas de carga que cobraban $60°° nuestra sorpresa es que no están en función por la contingencia. Así que la única opción era transportarnos en taxi. Los taxis cobran entre $300 y $450 dependiendo que tanto dejes que lo hagan.

Llegar hasta Apoala desde nochixtlan implica una hora más en camino de terraceria. Y al llegar a la población tienes que registrarte en un libro en la entrada del pueblo, donde te cobrarán una cuota de $50 por persona, esta cuota cubre el pago de un guía (qué regularmente son niños de la población) que te guía por: las cascadas, la laguna, un par de montañas que no recuerdo cómo se llaman, pinturas rupestres y la cueva del diablo.

A este par último no pudimos llegar, porque por los tiempos nos ganó la luz del día y no quedó más que montar acampado, acomodar nuestras pertenencias, descansar un poco y juntar leña para hacer una fogata y cocinar la cena.

Por la falta de transporte tienes que apartarlo desde el momento en que llegas a la comunidad (otros $350 más...)

Durante nuestra fogata, conocimos dos personas, así qué ya no éramos solo mi pareja y yo, si no también este par de amigos, con quienes compartimos el pan y el vino (jaja, si, suena mamador, pero así fué) para, luego de una larga platica ir cada quien a dormir.

Al otro día salimos muy temprano de regreso a la ciudad, haciendo de nuevo una parada por nochixtlan para desayunar unas memelitas y un rico café de olla.

En total, por persona sin consumir alimento en la comunidad te gastas alrededor de $600, será un poco más si en vez de acampar rentas cabaña. Pero vale completamente la pena.

A Karime y a mi nos han quedado ganas de regresar y ahora si poder conocer la cueva del diablo.

I spent my first ever night in a forest. THE WHOLE FREAKING NIGHT.

Got up super early (code saying “didn’t sleep at all”) to see the sun rise. Super excited to see the first sunrise of 2020 or rather the first sun rise I ever got up to see. But guess what? There was literally no sun. Just mist. Wind. Mist.

I think it was absolutely worth it though. Imagine you can see the mist moving. And shivering in cold. My instinct was to climb the edge of the rock and introspect.

That’s what I did.

My friends were against it. But I was like chuck it …I’ll still do it. I sat there for meager fifteen minutes. There were only two people that too not so close to me.

The photo is an absolute candid. I had no idea they were clicking my pictures.

Few learnings:

This trip taught me that its okay to go out of the ay and meet your old friend and even be open to make new ones simultaneously.

Even though language was a barrier, you can overcome it because there is always at least one person who will understand you. One has to hunt for that person. <3

Sometimes its okay to get out the comfort zone and explore places at odd hours when you might not even think of leaving your house. Its at midnight in the middle of the forest.

Stay in contact with people who will go out of there way to show you wonderful and unexplored areas of the earth.

You might experience the unexpected. Go with an open mind.

This could vie for possibly being the freakiest underwater experience I have had. The seven colours of our colour spectrum are absorbed one by one the deeper you go because water is denser than air. That makes it difficult for colours to pass through this density and reach our eyes. Imagine being at the exact depth where the colour red disappears and then have a look at your dive buddy’s predominantly red wetsuit. Now that’s some real life CGI! Eventually, you are left with the loss of the colour blue at 60 meters below the surface. Artificial lights and colour filters for your underwater cameras will help you there. Case in point, this bright sandy bottom which has been captured by a colour filter. Notice the change in colour as I rise and fall slightly. . .
