Monthly Satellite Times update

apologies for a whole lot of nothing lately, despite having obtained 12/13 of the LaserDiscs, my project momentum kind of hit a brick wall bc depression been kicking my ass lately.

Good News Though:

-Stage 1 is nearly complete, it's fully scanned and stitched, currently working on the cleanup for page 3, which is the last one that needs cleanup. It's taking a long time bc this one was a bit tougher to extract the background from due to the sketchier artwork in the settei on the Production Preview pages and I'm very nitpicky when it comes to cleaning things up, haha. Also had to rescan and restitch this entire insert due to my scanner software having automatically sharpened all the scans, which causes issue on the cleanup process. These were my first scans done on my new pc so I had not realized that option was on by default on my software and simply forgot to check, oopsie. but yea i am about 1/3 done cleaning page 3. hopefully can have it done this week

-I managed to get to the library and try their large format scanner, which was large enough to scan the LD sleeve & obi strip I brought to try as well as whole pages of the entire Monthly Satellite Times, which means no stitching will be needed! the scanner is also much faster at 600dpi than mine is, so I'm going to try to get the rest of the inserts scanned that way to save me the stitching trouble as well as get all the LD sleeves & obi strips. the computer has a 1hr time limit for use but i was able to get everything i needed from the 1 LD in about 30 minutes so it will be multiple trips to get everything but hey it'll get me out of the house right ? haha

The Not Good News:

-I have been misattributing the Vash the Gallery artists, which I hadn't realized--the artist credits are for the artist featured in the previous volume! this was described on the Stage 1 insert (using google lens for translation) and due to my inability to read the language I had not figured this out sooner. oops. once the proper artists are figured out I will go edit the original posts featuring those detail scans. I know they have been reblogged many times already some of them and i feel bad for spreading misinfo....something i am trying to do the opposite of... I'm sorry !!!!!!

-I am still missing Stage 12 and on the lookout for a copy, preferably the LaserDisc but I'd take a tape if it has the insert included...idk just lmk if by chance you find any listings for Stage 12 !!!! i've been poking around a bit and have yet to find one..... also lmk if any listings for a complete LD Box 2 shows up, I am unhinged enough about this series to buy duplicates of 6/7 of the LDs I already have just to get 1 missing one + a cool box to match the LD Box 1 I do have, and also hopefully get the Stage 8 obi strip (which is the only obi I am missing)

And to end off, here's my entire Trigun original Japanese home media release collection at the moment, tehe (i forgot if i posted this pic already so sorry if it's repeat).

(I am planning on reselling one of my Stage 4 LDs, and any other potential duplicates I may end up with should I manage to get my hands on a LD Box 2)

hello Virgil when you have the time you should explain your coloring and lining process

they way i do both lines and ESPECIALLY color changes basically every time i draw but yeah sure! im also p bad at explaining myself so idk if this is gonna make sense to anyone but me!

(first off dont draw on pure white canvases!! itll psyche you out and intimidate you because of the blank canvas, also its fucking eye bleeding!! i like going with a medium/light grey but ive seen people use a beige or light brown too just anything but pure white. also helps to just get SOMETHING onto the page if your having trouble w/ artblock, doesnt matter if its good it just has to be something u can work with. trust the process 100% and if it doesnt turn out good theres no shame in restarting from scratch, at least the idea is out of your head and easier to work through what was wrong)

my sketches are usually super messy and i go through like two to four different layers of refining it before starting lineart, and with lineart i usually use either a simple hard round brush or a sketchier one if im doing painting? my go-to ones are the default G-Pen in clip studio edited a bit to fit how i like pen pressure and 1834113 and 1761353 in the asset store but i like messing w/ whatever i can find on there and whatever feels fun at the time lmao so its not very consistent

i try and keep my lines pretty thin on the inside and thicker on the outer edge? as well as adding bits of cross-hatching and hatching both in the lines and when i go in with shading!

i keep my lineart brushes pretty minimal with the pen pressure as im not the best with my pen control and just change the size of pen as i go lmao. More prevalent when i'm doing super clean lines for comics and not sketchy ones like this for painting but its generally the same, i'm not the neatest person when it comes to lines

I draw a lot of the individual parts (head, facial features, hair, clothes, hands, etc.) on separate layers so if something looks wrong i can either wipe the layer entirely or go in with the transform tool and not mess with the rest of the lineart in the process lol

(also i saw someone keep the eyes and facial features visible under the hair but erase where they meet the lines for the hair? and just yoinked it for myself because it looks super nice lmao.)

starting colors is almost always the same, where i just go in and block in the base color for each part (skin, hair, clothes, etc.) on a separate layer to make going back and editing colors a lot easier. with painting like here i also go in and add basic shading, mostly around the skin! usually i add a darker & warmer color around the cheeks, nose, eyes, fingertips and joints as well as in places where theres shading like under the head and under the nose.

also in the darkest parts of the shading like under the head/neck and under the nose i like to add a light bluish/purpleish color very lightly as a bounce light! it doesnt always fit with the piece but it does look very nice when i can make it fit so i try to remember to do that lol.

(I dont take many progress shots or timelapses so i apologize for not having the best reference images lmao)

if im doing painting, after finishing the base colors & light shading i put everything ive done into one folder and make a clipping mask over top of it and paint over it!

i usually add more detailed shading + heavier highlights on places like the nose and edges of the skin showing to make it look nice and shiny lol

(i dont have any recent drawings i can show progress pics of but just trust me on this) if im doing cell shading though i do the same thing with putting the lineart and colors into a layer, but add a multiply layer on top of it and pick a pretty saturated color to go in with the shading. if i have a background i try and keep in mind what colors are in the background and what the lighting situation is to make sure the characters blend into the background more realistically. also airbrush tool and the add glow layer is your best friend in this situation

usually after that i go back and color the line art! I pick the darkest color in a part of the drawing like the clothes or hair, make it warmer and darker and go in on the innermost parts of the lineart with it and keep a lot of the outer lines black for contrast

then i just go completely fucking ham with overlay layers and gradient maps lmao, they ARE the fucking best and are usually what i use to finish off a drawing lol.

usually i use a combination of just fucking with the default "sky" graidents in clip studio or one set i got from the asset store (1814319) on a soft light layer at like, 10-30 opacity because it gives it a REALLY nice look. again just keep in mind the lighting situation (darker night? daylight? funky bright colors?) and just go until it looks good lol.

that's basically it? though tbh i tend to just grab onto whatever technique or tip i saw on tiktok or someone on youtube do and use that, as well as changing how i color hair/skin depending on what i think looks nice at the time. none of my shit is consistent what so ever so i just kinda change things or try new brushes/coloring styles on the fly if i think it looks nice lmao. pure essence of fuck around and find out every time i open clip studio

“(Y/N) sweetie, are you listening to him?" Your mom asked from her hospital bed, bringing you out of your trance."You're going to live with your uncle when Im- when I'm gone."

"I don't want to go, I want to stay with you." You said with silent tears running down your face continuously.

"You can visit every day until-" your mom started but paused seeing the hurt in your eyes at what she was going to say next.

"But you can't leave me..."you said quietly as your uncle put his hand on your shoulder.

"Oh baby, if there was anything I could do to stay with you I would. But- but the doctors only give me another couple of days, you know that. There's nothing we can do." Your mom said to you, looking down at her hands so she wouldn't break down, she had to stay strong for you.

"You should go back to school tomorrow, I don’t want you to give up when I'm gone. You're smart just like your uncle and you're a good kid, you can't let this ruin the rest of your life."Your mom said.

"How am I supposed to focus when you're stuck here with only a few days left? I can't leave you now. They'll understand why I didn't come to school for a couple of days while you were dying!" You said, yelling a little bit at the end because of how unfair this whole situation is.

Your mom locked eyes with you and you could tell she was about to cry.

"Could I talk to your uncle for a couple minutes while you wait in the hall baby?” Your mom asked quietly, you could tell it hurt her too.

You got up and walked out of the room silently only looking back to get a good look at your mom in case it was the last time you see her alive. Part of you wanted to respect their privacy but you had to know what they were talking about so you stood outside the door, thankful for how quiet this section of the hospital was.

"I don't want her all over the news, Tony. You have to keep her out of the public eye, at least until she's 18 or she does something amazing, I'm talking curing a disease, solving a world crisis or something like that which I know she'll do but until then, no one knows about her."

“I underst-"

"I'm not done, I don't care what you have to do but you keep her safe. I will come back to life and kill you if you let anything happen to her, understand?"She sounded harsh but you could tell she was about to cry.

“I understand I wish-" he stopped and took a deep breath in. I wish you would’ve told me this earlier. I could've gotten you every treatment, I would've." His voice breaking with every word.

"Shhh, there’s nothing you can do now. This is better anyway, you’ll be able to actually provide for her. Better than I ever-” then her voice faded out."

“(Y/M/N), come on. Don't do this. Doctor! I need a doctor!"

You burst open the door and froze when you saw her lying there, motionless.

"Mom? Mom no! You can"t leave me!"

"Go wait outside (Y/N)" your uncle ushered you out of the room. “She's going to be okay, they'll take care of her." He said to you with a few tears on his face before he rushed back into the room.

“Time of death 9:47 pm.”

As soon as you heard that you ran, you ran straight out of the hospital and down the dark streets of queens, you didn’t stop until your lungs burnt and your legs were about to give out. You leaned against a wall and slid down to the ground, you realized then that you ran into the sketchier part of queens, at night in the dark.

You started to walk back, you really didn't want to run into anyone. Your mom had signed you up for basic self-defence classes two years ago when you were 14 but you didn't trust that you were there enough to fight right now.

"Hey pretty lady, what you doing out here all by yourself at this hour?" Your shoulders tensed up as you kept on walking, picking up your pace.

"Hey! I was talking to you. Don't ignore me bitch."He sounded angrier this time so you picked up your pace again when suddenly you felt his arms wrap around you, effectively stopping you.

"Let me go." You said but not loud enough.

"What was that?” He said and started to try to pull you into the alley.

"Let me go!" You yelled and a wave of green energy shot out all around you, throwing him back and creating a shield all around you. He looked up at you in horror and yelled freak before running away.

"(y/n), you still with us?" your chemistry teacher asked you, bringing you out of your thoughts.

"Oh um yea, sorry."you said.

"You okay?" your lab partner asked you quietly.

You and Peter met when you were both running late to class and you ran into each other- literally. It was like one of those scenes you only see in the movies, paper everywhere, you landing on top of him the whole thing. Both of you apologising and trying to organise your papers resulted in both of you being extremely late for class but luckily your chemistry teacher loved you so she let it slide this once but, unfortunately, the only seats left were together and that’s how you became lab partners with Peter Parker.

"Yea I was just thinking." you replied before the teacher announced that you would be doing a group project before giving the class the remaining time to find a partner and plan out the projects.

"How about yours, I haven't seen May in awhile." you said with a smile.
