I was rewatching Max's Enemy, and how the hell is that I either didn't notice, or I forgot, that literally all of the pub thugs, Eugene, and Lance, all make 'Oh, shit' faces when the woman yells, "Stop! Theif!" at the beginning of the episode.

Do you have palettes saved for the tangled characters? If you do, do you mind sharing them? (Especially for varian, I have trouble trying to find his skin tone, since the screencaps/screenshots I have of him have different lighting😂)
I actually do have some! I created these back when I was making art for “Alchemist Out Of Corona,” but I still use them for all of my art of these characters.

I didn’t create ones for the animals, but these are specific screenshots I use for Pascal, Owl, and Ruddiger since they’re in normal daylight on the show. (Fun fact: Ruddiger’s eye color is the exact same color as the stripe in Varian’s hair! 😜)

As for Maximus and Fidella, I have lost the original screenshots I used to color them. So I just use previous arts of mine for their colors.😅
I hope this helped! 🥰

I find it interesting how the main group everyone thinks of when they think of the main cast(new dream, Cass, Lance, and Varian) ended up almost never together as a group. Lance was introduced slightly later than everyone else, Varian didn't appear a lot before queen for a day, and by the time Varian became an ally again, Cass already left. It's also funny how Hook Foot ended up practically a main character in season 2, since he's kinda forgettable (at least in my opinion)
And I know Shorty was on the caravan too, but I don't really consider him part of the main cast, he's more of a supporting character.
Yeah, I've noticed that, myself.

At this rate I wouldn’t be surprised if the entire gang (plus Max, Pascal, and Hook Foot) is afraid of heights

Something I feel that was a lost opportunity...
You know, we added some of the pub thugs, namely Hook Foot, to the main cast of RTA, but they never really utilized him in any sort of meaningful way aside from letting him help Lance do the Actual Physical Heavy Lifting when it came to the caravan, and then there was that whole thing with the mermaid and the storyline with Hook Hand... but they were standalone episodes, I'm talking about something that would have made him important (besides physical labor) to the actual main cast.
They could have used him when Cass's arm got burned after the Great Tree. They could have shown him trying to help Cass, not in a "romantic interest" kind of way, because that wouldn't make sense for either of their characters, but just in a friendly "I know you're in pain, I've lost a limb before I know what this is like, it's okay." way.
Because that's exactly what Hook Foot has - his leg is not actually a fashion statement (well, it kind of is), but rather it's a functional part of him that allows him to live his every day life in a modified way. Does it look bad-ass? Yes, but have you seen the guy move with that thing? That means it's functional. And before any one of you tell me that it's simply a body mod... as someone who lives as an amputee, let me tell you that nothing about an amputation is optional or even in the same realm as 'body modification'. (We're not talking about that psychological syndrome in which people want to chop off their limbs, we're leaving that out of the equation for one minute.) So please do not confuse an amputee's life with someone who is dedicated to body modification, because it is not the same at all.
That being said, when Cass went evil, it would have been a great exchange to see Eugene talking it over with Hook Foot or one of the other disabled pub thugs (there are several who are missing limbs) and having one of them ask him, "Have you ever lost a part of yourself, Fitzherbert? Why do you think we turned to a life of crime? We had other dreams, you know." and it would've been perfectly on-brand, but maybe a little bit too introspective for TTS. Before some of you say, "But that's going to frame people with disabilities in a bad light." speaking as someone who has an actual physical disability - no it would not. You would definitely have to write it properly, and do your research, but it could have added a layer to Cass's grief besides the petty "you took my Mom away from me" argument.
The sibling rivalry angle is kind of old, and did not really apply to Cass and Raps because they were not raised together as sisters. I'm not saying that they couldn't end up viewing each other in a similar light but it's kind of a reach, IMO. Also, a conversation like this would have provided a good opportunity for Eugene to actually - oh I don't know - act like a Big Brother to Cass and act concerned about her well-being instead of constantly trying to one-up her or make her look bad. Give me something to work with besides the throwaway line, "She's like a sister to me."
Oh yeah, buddy? Fuckin' prove it.
Tumblr media
What I am not saying with this post, is I'm not saying that anything would have worked. Just because you are nice to people, just because you give people the benefit of the doubt, just because you give them every opportunity to do the right thing, doesn't mean that they will. In that case, they could have turned Cass into a Real Villain by actively not accepting any help that she was given... but what pisses me off about Cass's arc is that it seemed that no one actually tried. Ya'll can fight me about that.
Going back to the disabilities thing though, it would have been a profound way to expound on disability awareness because when you are forced to modify your every day activities then that comes with its own levels of grief, anger, and resentment and wishing that things would just go back to normal so that you could just get on with your life - nothing about having a disability is fun, especially one that gets in your way of physically getting around.
While Cass's disability was not leg related, it still hampered the way she lived her life, if you look in certain screenshot after the Great Tree it's clear to see that she is in PAIN while using that arm and pain can cause you to react in emotional ways that aren't always logical to someone who is able-bodied and not in pain. I'm just saying we lost a valuable opportunity.

Days of having anxiety build up wasn't fun, but Damian wouldn't dare admit his feelings to anyone. It's weakness, he can not be weak.
"Timothy, I wish to spar with you"
"Hm? Sure I have time"
"You know how to wield a katana?"
"I'm okay with it"
"Good, get ready then" Damian grabbed his katana as Tim grabbed one of the spare ones.
"Rules?"
"First one to fall"
They got into a stance, not a second later they began. The steel clanging at every strike, the adrenaline making Damian forget his problems. Tim seemed to be having fun himself.
The steel clanging echoed as Damian and Tim were at a standoff facing each other hoping to win against this force of strength.
"You're lacking Dami. I think you're getting soft"
Damian smirked "Tt. You wish I was, you're just afraid I'm gonna kick your ass" "Oh yeah?" Tim twisted his katana at an angle to which it hooked under Damian's and he flung it to the left. Damian's katana struck the wall and clanged to to the ground. The force of being unarmed had caused Damian to fall back, when he frowned and looked back at Tim, Damian's heart pounded. Tim was holding the katana close to his face as Damian couldn't do anything, but watch the blade.
No. Not now. Don't do this now... not now not now not now
"I win"
Stop it! Go away! Get away from me! It's not real!
Not real not real not real not real not real not real not real notrealnotrealnotrealnotrealnotreal!!!
IT'S NOT REAL!!!!!!!!!!!!
"No comeback? That's new, what you too stunned to speak?"
Damian's heart was beating as he kept his eyes glued to the katana that was aimed to his throat. One slight shift and it would kill him again. Again... just like grandfather would do.
"Hey, keep your eyes on me, you look pale" The katana in Tim's hand was put to the side and Damian shook his head as he fumbled backwards "NO!"
"...Damian?"
IT'S NOT REAL!
IT'S NOT REAL!
"NONE OF IT IS REAL!" Damian got up as quick as he could as Tim reached out, making a run up the stairs and to his room. Damian locked his door shut before collapsing to the foot of his bed sobbing.
"It's not real! It's not real! It can't be real! None of this is real! Get out! HE'S NOT HERE! GET OUT OF MY HEAD!"
But he is... he's watching from the corner of my room. I'm disappointing him. I'm going to be replaced. I DON'T WANT TO BE REPLACED!
I HAVE TO BE USEFUL OR ELSE I'LL BE THROWN OUT LIKE TRASH!
PLEASE DON'T DO THAT TO ME!
I CAN BE USEFUL!
I CAN BE WORTH YOUR TIME!
"I WON'T BE A BURDEN! NO NO I PROMISE I WON'T FAIL! PLEASE DON'T REPLACE ME, DON'T GET RID OF ME!"
He screamed and pulled at his hair, it was too much. The voices, the pain, the fear, the denial. The fact that Ra is a few feet away watching him be so pathetic. Ra isn't speaking, he's not scolding or punishing him. Yet the look that Damian can't see feels like it speaks more than words could.
The door that Damian had locked was slammed opened and the person who caused it was Tim.
Not him.
NO NO I CAN'T DO THIS!
"DON'T KILL ME!"
"Damian! I'm not here to kill you"
"GET AWAY! DON'T TOUCH ME! I DON'T WANT TO DIE I PROMISE I CAN DO BETTER! DON'T REPLACE ME! DON'T GET RID OF ME! I CAN BE USEFUL! I-I CAN BE WORTH SOMETHING! I WON'T BE USELESS I CAN'T BE USELESS! I'LL DO EVERYTHING YOU SAY I'LL OBEY EVERYTHING!" Damian's voice was cracking and succumbing to the pressure of shouts. "Please..." Damian looked at Tim, he's sure his face is red and ruined with tears. "Please don't get rid of me... I don't want to go away. I don't want to be killed. I'll be better. I promise-" Damian lowered his head to the floor, he has to show respect "-just give me another chance"
Damian's heart wasn't going to stop beating so quickly anytime soon. Everything was catching his attention all his senses overloading to high just so he wouldn't fail at whatever was coming his way.
Then everything drew to a blank, his mind snapped, light leaving his eyes as he stared at the soft carpet floor. "Damian, hey can you hear me?" "Yes" "Try to look at me" Damian gave his full attention to Tim. "Yes sir" "Oh... oh no you shutdown didn't you? Oh God what do I do?"
...
The window was foggy, Damian could only drift with his thoughts overtaking him as the outside world seemed to be but a speck.
"Come here"
He did as told. Tim's hands were trembling, he doesn't always see this side of Damian. It's terrifying to know that in a matter of seconds a child can become an obedient solider. Tim grasped onto Damian and pulled him in as close as he can. "Stay with me. Your tougher than this, I know you are. Which is why, when you falter I'll be here as well to steady you. So stay with me Damian and breath"

The Island-Episode involving the idle gave me feels, so here is an AU-Centric edit for it!.
(It is my Head-Canon that Varian seldom smiles whilst in the early weeks following Quirin’s Amber-ing, as all of his joy is currently obscured by mountains of angst. Enter everyone being super surprised when the first thing he does is smile once Raps hands him the idle in order to demonstrate it’s power upon first finding it, cue tons of Hurt/Comfort after the idle is destroyed.)
I tried giving Varian his own “Beach Outfit”, LOL!.

Why do you think they even put Hook foot on the caravan anyways? I understand Shorty for comic relief, but why Hook Foot? They may have wanted someone to balance out the two duos of Rapunzel and Cass and Eugene and Lance, or someone to fill the slot Ariana would’ve had on the caravan trip, but that didn’t have to be Hook Foot. And was Lance (and for that matter, Varian) even developed during the point where Ariana would’ve been on the trip? If not, that point may be moot. They may have wanted to put another guy on the team for when Lance was out of commission during the S1 premiere. But my personal opinion for why they chose Hook Foot specifically is that they really, really wanted to do both the Seraphina episode and the episode with Hook Hand, which afterwards Hook Foot no longer mattered to plot so he left. I think they wanted to bring back Hook Hand for an episode and have him and Hook Foot interact, and I guess they figured the best time for that was when they were on the road, but I can just imagine someone who worked on the show just really liking the concept of Hook Foot and a mermaid having a romantic thing going, and then they decide to make an actual episode about it, and that being the main reason they put him on the caravan 😂
So, fun fact from what I know about Hook Foot existing at all: They wanted it to be Hook Hand, but Brad Garret wanted them to pay him way more money/amenities to play him than they had the budget for, and they weren't going to get a sound-alike. Their general rule was: if the original cast can't be the character, that character won't be in it. Ultimately, they got Brad for one (1) episode, and I believe that was agreed upon much farther down the road, not when they first asked him to reprise the roll. In fact, there are early storyboards where Hook Hand is included, and Hook Foot is nowhere to be seen. (Unfortunately, I can't seem to find said storyboard at this time, or I'd show you.)
I have no idea why they ultimately decided not to include Arianna on the trip, but I think that was decided on well before they decided to include Hook Foot. So it's not a case of "instead," more a case of "they went in a different direction".
As for why Hoot Foot was included in season two at all, while I don't have any hard facts about this, I feel like it has something to do with making Eugene more serious during the season (especially towards the end), and so they needed comic relief to balance him out. They (and by "they" I mean "probably Ben Balistreri") seemed to really like the gag where his hook foot was used as a tool. And, yeah, probably also to balance out the traveling party, numbers-wise.
But primarily, I feel like it was because they wanted an excuse to have him not be at the wedding (I guess, even though Hook Hand ultimately was). Like, Hook Foot was the first of the cast to leave the party permanently. I think we're meant to assume that, between him joining Hook Hand on the road, and then not being at the wedding, that he either got his solo career and/or ultimately went off to be with Seraphina (like the end card implied, even though that was just one artist's personal desire). Either way, someone in the crew (again, probably Ben) really liked him enough to include him.

Thanks to reading Rise of Flynn Rider for the millionth time I'm now picturing an au where the gang actually finds Miss Clare during Beyond the Corona Walls and she's just with them for the rest of season 2. She scolds Eugene and Lance for running off, then gives them a teary eyed welcome home. She gets to meet Rapunzel and give her the stamp of approval (cause let's be real, Rapunzel would be SO psyched to meet the woman who's basically Eugene's mom). And of course, Cass and maybe Hook Foot too beg for all the embarrassing kid Eugene stories.

Reasons why Varian should have replaced Hook foot in the entirety of Season 2 :))))
1. Hook Foot was practically useless. He served no real purpose, and was mostly in the way
2. Hook Foot left like halfway through as well
3. Rapunzel could've offered Varian a spot on the trip, proposing that along the way they could've found a cure or a way to melt/shatter the amber to free his father
4. Rapunzel could've totally helped him through his anger, rather than locking him away
5. It isn't really Rapunzel's nature to lock someone away when their situation is like that. Especially since Varian was so young. Rapunzel would've tried helping him. Also the fact that she typically forgives people, even if they've done wrong. I mean, look at Cass?
6. Varian could've deciphered the scroll pieces everytime they found more, since he did mention he was able to decipher the first piece
7. With that one in mind, Varian could've helped discover the second/third piece, which had the hurt incantation, which would've freed his father
8. Varian could've helped with alchemy and such to get them moving along faster and smoother
9. Varian is quite smart and definitely could've helped make weapons and such to get them through certain obstacles
10. Varian was only unstable since no one offered him help when he was in a dire situation.
11. Plus, putting him in a cell with someone much much older, and manipulative is a very bad call on the kings/guards part. Stoopid.
Personally (although I'm probs not the only one who thinks this) I think Varian just deserved... More. Better. Yknow? Like, we're like 99% sure his mom is dead, right? So when his dad was encased, it's probably no surprise that Varian was upset and sad.
And at the end of the episode (s1 ep23), it was almost like Rapunzel was like... Rubbing the fact she had a full family in his face. I know that wasn't the case, but.. He's just a small, hurt kid. And the fact that all that happened and no one really helped, it's just... It lowkey makes me want to cry. Varian deserved much, much better, and I just think he should've had a chance to re-prove himself on their massive journey, rather than just locking him up and saying they'd get him help (since clearly they didn't).
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk :))
