Ok since tumblr is deciding to be picky today (I still love you tumblr) I'm going to make a fourth attempt and hope for the best!
Hi! I'm writing this as an explanatory presentation for the big project that I need to do for my music history class. And what better way to do this than with memes and a long tumblr post! The format of my project would be a series of blog posts diving deeper into each of the topics that I will identify throughout this post.
For context, the Korean pop group Ateez (debuted 2018 with 8 members) participated in a competition called Kingdom: Legendary War. This competition put different groups against each other for the goal of publicity, and to find out which group was the most versatile and talented. For this event, the groups had to perform some original songs as well as cover other groups' songs (for example, Stray Kids covered BTS' "I'll Be Your Man" as part of this event.) Ateez took one of their previous songs, "Wonderland" (2019) and reworked it to include hints of Pirates of the Caribbean and Antonin Dvořák's 9th Symphony to present at the show in 2021.
Tumblr media
To begin, Ateez's debut concept was one word: "Pirates". A debut concept in Korean pop is some kind of aesthetic to attract new fans that would be interested in the style of music promised, and provides a storyline for future album releases. For example, EXO's theme is "Alien" while Dreamcatcher has a more "Darkness" vibe to their performances, which makes their shows truly chilling. With that in mind, there is no denying that Ateez has put on an incredible performance with this song. The stage decor, the costumes, and the massive kraken making an appearance-- all hint towards maximalism influence. It is worth mentioning that 3-dimentional projections are relatively common in shows, but some can be really cool. (And horrifying. Check out this bigass spider that Stray Kids had on top of their stage for their performance at the MAMA 2022 award show. Rest in peace to all the people with arachnophobia.)
Tumblr media
Regardless, incorporating the musical theme from Pirates of the Caribbean makes sense with their concept, but the inclusion of Dvořák's Symphony still needs more digging to make sense.
The inclusion of Dvořák's Symphony in Ateez's Wonderland is deliberate. This unlikely fusion of musical styles is an intersection of the Korean pop culture with the Western music traditions-- which Korean pop was already doing to a certain extent. The genre resonates with people from across the world, so to make it more accessible and appealing to listeners, the artists started including both Korean and English lyrics, effectively creating a bilingual genre of music. The expansion of this toolkit not only added much more versatility and flow to the lyrics, but also helped the music reach a much wider audience. Some Kpop groups have even experimented with releasing Japanese versions of their Korean songs!
Tumblr media
In addition to the last point, the inclusion of Dvořák's Symphony complements the lyrics surprisingly well. Wonderland starts with a fragment of a movement from the symphony, which represents the "New World" (hence its nickname) or America, when it was still "new" and "undiscovered". In the fifth line of the lyrics, Hoongjong sings "gonna find a new world to be mine" which lines up perfectly with the meaning behind the 9th symphony. The fragment of the piece is played on horns, making the section all the more triumphant and epic as well as accentuating the message of the lyrics. Also, Wonderland is quite similar in title to New World...
Tumblr media
While Ateez has an excellent arrangement of this piece mashed into their song, they are not the first group to combine classical music with Kpop. For example, Jimin from BTS samples Manuel de Falla's "La Vida Breve" (1904) in his solo song "Lie" (2016), while Gfriend uses "A Poet's Love" from Robert Schumann in "Summer Rain" (2017). But while Ateez might be simply hopping onto this trend, this proves that taking the old and making something new out of it will never go out of fashion. If it does, we'll just have to bring it back and make something new from it!
With that in mind, the inclusion of Dvořák's Symphony into Ateez's Wonderland has an impact on an issue we already touched on earlier: accessibility. Many people look down on Kpop as a genre because they think of it as too basic, or cringe, or simply too formulaic for them. (To quote my brother, he told me that "Kpop songs all sound the same and the singers all look the same too".) While a lot of songs in the genre have the structure and the length of mainstream popular songs, not all of them are necessarily the same. (Some of them can be pretty bad, though-- I cringe every time I hear "Cat and Dog" by TXT, it's so funny hahah) Adding classical music to the genre might attract more listeners to the songs, where they can find something they know and latch onto it as a bridge to appreciate the rest of the music. Dvořák's Symphony in Ateez's Wonderland is appealing to the classical listeners who might not have had that point of contact to get to new music styles before.
Tumblr media
It is worth mentioning that the musical style in this song is quite elaborate and polished, which reminds of classical traditions. At a certain point, Jungho sings a B5, which is somewhat like a cadenza in the classical world-- something to show off a soloist's skills that is usually technically challenging and quite impressive. In the revised version of Wonderland released in 2021, the particular singer decided to make the top note even higher and longer than what he sang in the version released in 2019. This decision really helped maximize the impact of the re-release along with the added classical music sampling.
To summarize, it's really cool, and this entire post feels like this:
Tumblr media
I'm really looking forward to working on this project!

Pre-assessment feedback
Pre-assessment feedback
You have managed to forge a studio practice throughout the lengthy winter lockdown from a workstation at home. You return to the studios has brought a raised level of ambition.
The work is developing well, and you are working with vigour as you bring your work to resolution. The work itself it well conceptualised. The use of Perkins-Gilman’s novella, The Yellow Wallpaper (Published in 1892), is an appropriate source and a hallmark of feminist literature. The work clearly references this idea of the repression of female mental health. You expand this to include a dialogue with your own Afro-Caribbean heritage, and the use of cotton flowers is incredibly resonant. You might want to emphasise this by only selecting this wallpaper pattern. Conceptually, the figures emerging from this cotton print is incredibly effective; however, you do need to work on the execution.
Currently, the paintings are overly elaborate and emphasise the weaker elements of your draftmanship. You can clearly paint and develop rich skin tones. It is the drawing, and especially when you use a full figure that needs to be developed. This will come with time and a commitment to drawing from life. In the time remaining, it is crucial to find methods that mask this to some extent. The body prints are effective, as would the use of partial bodies. This sits more effectively with your concept and the layers within the wallpaper and the bodies you represent.
In terms of your supporting materials, this is already of a high standard, and you only need to add some reflection to the more recent posts. You are clearly aware of the artists whose practice is of relevance to you. There is a significant focus on black figurative artists at the moment, and as you embark on your professional career at this pivotal moment, you should clearly emphasise this moment and identify your peers within your contextual materials.
Your proposal for the degree seems entirely feasible. It is ambitious and will be effective. The skirting may be an unnecessary addition. A note of caution: If you intend the paste the work to the wall, then the work would be destroyed after the exhibition. This would look better but bear that in mind if you were hoping to keep the paintings. You may also wish to test the paint with the expansion of the wallpaper when wet. This expansion of the paper may damage your painting on the surface.
Pre-assessment feedback Response
I understand and agree with Davids pre-assessment of my studio practice so far. At this stage in my project I have developed a rigorous folder of contextual research documented on my tumblr. I have explored two themes this semester centred around my mixed afro-Caribbean heritage which has eventually narrowed down to my wall paper paintings. My work has become much more ambitious and the use of ‘the yellow wallpaper’ book has given my work more of a focus. I have felt less astray within my practice this semester and much more confident in my art work – encouraging me to submit to open call exhibitions.
My current large scale paintings are very much out of proportion as I am not used to the scale. To improve on this, I plan on experimenting with projections and body prints. I agree that my craftmanship could be improved – my paintings currently lack in expressive mark making due to the size of the paint brushes I am using and lack of arm movement. This is something I am currently experimenting with.
His comments on the cautions of pasting my paintings to the wall has made me think of alternative solutions and extended my contextual research in artist presentation, helping me to achieve the learning outcomes better.

US$85 000 A MONTH – THE MIA MOTTLEY ADMINISTRATION will save more than a billion dollars in principal and interest savings in its restructuring of Barbados’ debt, but it is paying a high price for the advice to achieve it. According to the engagement letter available on Parliament’s website, Government has agreed to pay White Oak Advisory Ltd US$85 000 (BDS$170 000) per month to help Barbados navigate the situation. The engagement letter, dated last May 30, between the globally-recognised company and Government was laid in Parliament at the start of the recently concluded annual Estimates Debate on February 18. It was laid by Minister in the Ministry of Finance Ryan Straughn, for public record in response to Opposition Leader Bishop Joseph Atherley’s request for information about it.   (DN)
ROCK HARD BRACES -The cement war may not be over after all. Seems Rock Hard Cement is preparing for another fight from the western hemisphere’s largest cement producer, CEMEX. Rock Hard scored a major victory in its war with Trinidad Cement Ltd (TCL) and its Barbados-based subsidiary Arawak Cement Ltd last week, when CARICOM’s Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED), along with the World Customs Organisation (WCO), determined that the cement product Rock Hard imported from Turkey should be classified as “other hydraulic cement”. But executive chairman of Rock Hard, Mark Maloney, told the DAILY NATION he was bracing for another fight from CEMEX, the parent company of TCL, which controlled most of the market share in the cement business in the Caribbean. BOSTIC KNOCKS UNWILLING HANDS – Member of Parliament for The City, Jeffrey Bostic, had a tongue-lashing for some of his constituents last night, who he said were not stepping up to the plate in helping him carry out his plans. He also lamented that many of his initiatives were being set back due to the upsurge of violent crimes in City hotspots like Chapman Lane and New Orleans. Saying he was “just one man”, Bostic, who is also Minister of Health and Wellness, urged those who were making many demands on him to “wake up”. (DN)
NUPW CELEBRATES 75 YEARS – The National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) celebrated its 75th anniversary with a service at Collymore Rock Church of the Nazarene this morning.  Invited guest Colin Jordan, the Minister of Labour, said the union and the Barbados labour Party shared parallels in their desire to improve the lot of workers in Barbados and lauded the union for its theme “75 years of Consistent Representation and Growing with Technology”.  “I think it is appropriate that the NUPW, recognising that workers are the foundations of the building of a country, society and economic structure, also recognises that people . . . have to interact with technology. [Your theme] tells me the union recognises times are changing and even though people will remain the most important aspect of any country, it has to embrace the changes developing technology brings,” he said.  Union president, Akanni McDowall also said the theme was relevant as it challenged them to blend the old and the new and moved them not to rest on their laurels but to be on the forefront of re-educating the union’s membership in light of an ever changing working environment fuelled by technical advancement. He then urged the members to take part in the upcoming activities while outlining his wishes going forward.  “It is my wish that prosperity is restored to the nation and we will endeavour to make our contribution, however small, to nation building. I wish we redouble our efforts in thought, word and deed to move our nation forever forward, onward and upward – inspired exalted, free,” he said.  The sermon was conducted by Pastor David Holder who warned the congregation not to forget God in good times or bad as this leads to a pointless life. He urged the congregation to then make a fresh commitment to God. (DN)
LATAPY ON BOARD – Barbados’ football is set to get a magical touch. Trinidad and Tobago legend Russell “The Little Magician” Latapy is expected to be announced as head coach of the Barbados senior national football team later this week. While president of the Barbados Football Association (BFA) Randy Harris is keeping details close to his chest ahead of a planned media conference at the BFA’s Wildey, St Michael headquarters on Wednesday, high-level sources close to the situation confirmed the stunning development yesterday afternoon. (DN)
WHEELCHAIR WARRIORS A HIT – The fans who stayed away missed a treat. Wheelchair bodybuilding made a rousing, historic first appearance in Barbados at the season opening Flex Championships on Saturday night at the Derrick Smith Vocational School in Jackmans, St Michael. Exemplying courage and defying all odds, the wheelchair competitors, spearheaded by a razor-sharp Randy Mathurin, stole the spotlight at the three-dimensional event which also showcased the Mr and Miss Fit Model along with the programme opening Children’s Fitness. Mathurin, who caught the attention of the audience with his rock-hard back and bulging tri-ceps, may have been the headline act, but this was a night that will be remembered for the steely resolve of the 11 wheelchair entrants, three of them female.  (DN)
BUJU BANTON DELIVERS BIG AT LONG WALK TO FREEDOM CONCERT – For two hours Saturday night, reggae artiste Buju Banton, whose given name is Mark Myrie, belted out hit after hit at his Long Walk to Freedom concert at the National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica. If there were questions about his state of mind and his ability to perform in front of a sold out crowd, after almost a decade in isolation, Buju put those to rest, breezing through his extensive catalogue of musical masterpieces.   Dressed in an all-white ensemble, Banton entered the stage with a pensive look on his face, and that was enough to indicate that he meant business. He opened his set with a worship song asking, “Lamb of God, have mercy on me”. He then smoothly transitioned into Not An Easy Road, a song many thought would have been his track of choice, based on all he has had to overcome. As he sang through the lyrics of the song, the crowd went wild. Hits like Destiny, Champion, Driver, Untold Stories and Wanna Be Loved had the crowd singing and rocking along. And he was not alone as he wrote a piece of entertainment history. The Gargamel’s set involved several collaborations as he invited the likes of Beres Hammond, Marcia Griffiths, Wayne Wonder and Gramps Morgan to share the stage. (BT)

An Interview with Interregnum
Tumblr media
Could you introduce the group? Who you are and what you do in Interregnum?
Gregory: The idea for the project has been evolving for around two years. Joshua and I met through Tumblr, when he submitted a collection of short stories to Cutlines Press (I was acting as co-editor). It turned out that we shared so many interests, from music and literature to occultism, that we began working on a publication that came out last December, a literary collection called Collapsed Cartographies. [http://www.cutlinespress.com/category/e-book/]  Other authors and artists contributed, and Joshua and I recorded an album to go along with the literary material. [https://collapsedcartographies.bandcamp.com/album/collapsed-cartogrophies]. In the group I do vocals, synth, harmonium, stick dulcimer, bells, rattles, field recordings and samples, etc…
Joshua: Hello, there. My name is Josh. I play things in Interregnum, I suppose. I sample stuff as well. Gregory and I kind of play everything. I don’t think we have set roles in the project. He plays the harmonium. I can’t play that. Or, at least I don’t own one. It’s my favorite part of our sound, though.
What's the origin of the project? Why the name Interregnum?
Gregory: As I said, we began with a pretty ambitious literary collaboration, and that has grown into Interregnum as a specific musical outlet.  The word “interregnum” means an interval or pause, and especially a period between reigns, of governmental transition. I first encountered the word around a year ago, and have found it increasingly useful in terms of political analysis. I think that, globally, we are definitely in a disorienting situation, where the coordinates of the 20th century (the Cold War, for example), are no longer adequate. I came of age during the era of the Bush administration in the U.S, which was a time when it looked like the U.S. was going to be able to set the agenda for the world, on the heels of the 90s boom, and so on. Now—after the global financial crisis, the failure of U.S. imperial policy (reminiscent of the decline of Soviet power, e.g., in their inability to control Afghanistan) all the ideas even of the Bush era seem totally inadequate. So many big projects and visions have failed, whether we are talking about U.S. imperial “democracy,” 20th century socialism, or even the new age movement – the whole millennial atmosphere of the turn of the century is dispersing. We’ve had record temperatures worldwide every month for almost a year. I mean, I saw spring flowers blooming in the middle of winter here in Louisiana in 2015. I am interested in exploring these zones of in-betweenness musically.
Joshua: Gregory and I actually met through the kind of transgressive literature scene. He published a few short stories of mine. We still connect on that level I think. I’m working as a kind of third creative mind on his novel The Ugly Spirit, which is fucking great, by the way. I’m the E.K. to his Edmund Spenser. We started making music together to soundtrack the publication and we just clicked. We both have hands in the same kind of experimental sound.
Why the choice of Scandinavian mythology as a concept for the Wolf Age album?
Gregory: I don’t have an exact answer of why we decided to focus here. I have worked with Odin and the runes in the past. The mythology is something that comes up periodically in my life. After working on Collapsed Cartographies, Joshua and I were talking about a possible EP centered around Norse mythology. I suppose I’ve always been drawn to the apocalyptic current in northern mythology (i.e. with the idea of Ragnarok), and that seems like a fitting motif for the times, given that we are in some kind of interregnum.
Joshua: Gregory contacted me regarding putting together a project based on Norse Mythology. We both have a complicated relationship with the occult. I think our concept for the album, the lack of gender binary in Norse folklore, has a good academic basis and also might stop neo-fascist, dude-bro Asatru types from listening to our music, which is good.
During the creative process of the album there was some sort of material (musical, literary, artistic, etc.) or personal experience that influenced your way of work?
Gregory: At a highly abstract level, the mood suggested by this corresponded with a number of things happening in my life at the time. My grandmother was dying and I was also coming out of a period of pharmaceutical drug addiction, so I was in a dark and foreboding mood, but also being forced to start over on various levels. Joshua began sending me skeletal tracks with titles referring to specific episodes in the Poetic Edda. From there I added vocals or whatever else I felt inspired to add. In retrospect, I think that I benefitted by being prompted to create around mythic themes, which drew me away from the purely close-up view of my own life. In everything I did, I tried to maintain a certain fidelity to the stories in the Edda.
Joshua: This was recorded during a period of immense, but painful personal growth for me. Lots of stuff changed while we were making this. As far as artistic influences, a lot of David Bowie. Old gay pornography. Death in June. Metro Boomin. The devil, perhaps.
Could you describe the process of recording?
Gregory: We did everything remotely. Joshua would send me a base track, or I would send him one. He would add something. I would add something. I think we both gravitated toward a combination of improvisational, noisy approaches, with a structured style of song writing. I definitely wanted to have choruses, verses, and all of that sort of thing, but also a tendency for that coherence to dissolve, and then come back together.
Joshua: We recorded our parts separately and then emailed them to each other. Postal Service style.
Wolf Age possesses a strong ritualist vibe. Is there some sort of proceeding to fully appreciate the music as a listener?
Gregory: My approach to music reflects my life-long interest in the occult. I haven’t made any music specifically for rituals, but the music is, as you say, ritualistic. I do hope that listeners will have some interesting experience with the music. The tracks on this album refer to a mythic temporality, as does ritual. I would like for listeners to have a sense of being transported outside of our mundane sense of being in the world.
Joshua: Not for me. Take from it what you will.
The album is going to be released in cassette, could you comment briefly about that and why this media was chosen?
Gregory: We both have a strong interest in analog musical instruments. We use analog synth, drum machine, etc. I’m a good decade older than Joshua (30), so I have a certain nostalgic interest in these formats. The first album I ever bought was on tape, and my earliest sound experiments were with tape recorders. On a very pervasive level, this continuing interest is related to my long-term engagement with the work of William S. Burroughs, and the tape recorder-fueled influence that he had on a certain moment in time, particularly in the U.K. My primary touchstones, musically, are Throbbing Gristle, Psychic TV, Current 93, and that whole occult musical scene…I see myself as continuing Burroughs’ research, as it were, to the point where I’ve literally done magical work to be in contact with Burroughs from beyond the grave. Also there seems to be a cassette revival going on now, like what has been happening with vinyl. I am interested in being part of that, precisely because it doesn’t seem to be purely backwards-looking. In fact, through the establishment of networks, particularly online, the cassette revival is intertwined with a lot of musical innovation. I like what Croatian Amor is doing, for example. There are so many new cassette releases at the moment.
Joshua: It’s just the classic underground music format. I love the scale of it. I love that it can be manipulated and destroyed and reshaped.
Do you see any relationships between the religious traditions of New Orleans and the ones practiced by the old Scandinavians?
Gregory: That’s an interesting question. In short, yes.
There has always been a lot going on in Louisiana. On the one hand, it is certainly a U.S. city, but it is also part of the Caribbean—in many respects the northern limit of the Caribbean. Many of the forces that have operated in Latin America have also been present here, so we have this kind of imported Mediterranean/pan-Latin/Catholic thing going on. For instance, I grew up outside of New Orleans in a rural, Sicilian ethnic community, embedded in a majority black town. It’s an odd experience of race and culture, considering, say, the historical composition of the Midwestern U.S. Another part of my family is from a Canary Island immigrant community, here. So I grew up around official Catholicism as well as folk Catholicism. The latter involved many essentially magical practices and orientations. Now, living in New Orleans, I see the ways that Hoodoo is still alive here, along with growing practices of Santeria, Mexican curanderismo, the Santa Muerte cult, etc. I’ve practiced Golden Dawn-style ceremonial magic for a long time as well. I feel very close to that, but there is something missing in that sort of practice, namely the veneration of ancestors and things like that, as I see in folk Catholic practices. I suspect that there are similarities between these kinds of approaches and how northern Europeans, in a shamanic culture, would have related to reality. I have more understanding of the contemporary traditions I just mentioned, whereas northern paganism is a reconstruction, except in the sense in which it survived and came down through fairy tales, folk songs, and so on. In that regard, we’re left speculating based on textual evidence and our own spiritual experimentation. Freya Aswynn has said that she sees similarities between northern paganism and West African diaspora religion. Something to think about.
Joshua: I’m actually not from New Orleans. I’ve been there a few times, though. Last time I ended up drinking absinthe with Ad-Rock from the Beastie Boys. Wild.
In your opinion, what type of role does paganism exert in our contemporary society?
Gregory: Modernity brought about a radical de-centering, so that the Christian God is no longer at the center of social life in western civilization, or whatever we want to call it. Global capitalism has created a situation where extreme mixing of cultures is an accomplished fact. I don’t see any potential in resisting that mixing; we have already lost the ground of former identities, such that they ever existed. In some respects, maybe this is like a hyper-driven version of what happened in late antiquity, where Egyptian and Greek religious practices blended together, and Hermeticism and strange Gnostic cults flourished amid wild experimentation…This was brought about by the existence of a cosmopolitan empire that foreshadowed capitalist globalization. Gods abounded. This was the death of an old world but also a time of great creation.
Joshua: Paganism IS our society. Everything humans will ever do that is not directly related to our baseline survival implies faith and implies symbolism and implies archetypal thinking.
Any message to your listeners?
Gregory: If you’re out there, I want to connect with you! I want to find others who have the same deep longings that are driving me create art and think about the world, even in the face of the major disasters that are unfolding around us.
Joshua: Don’t ask permission.

Senior Thesis Proposal
1.    Theme
The theme of this senior thesis proposal is ‘resistance’. The word resistance by definition means, the refusal to accept or comply with something; the attempt to prevent something by action or argument. In September 2018, I started the Resistance Campaign to bring awareness to sexual assault not only on this campus but to also bring awareness to the issue and how it is overlooked in the black community. I would like to further my campaign and continue that theme in my senior capsule. This capsule is a continuation from the previous semester which was initially modeled after an incident that happened to me in Bowie, MD. The collection is crafted as a representation of my different types of style which ranges from trendy business casual to an edgy femme. The collection will feature an avant-garde and feminine flair to the average pantsuit, dress, jumpsuit or blazer. This collection features fun and bold colors, symbolizing and embodying confident women wearing the clothes underneath. Lace, linen and cotton blends will all be incorporated within the capsule, with embellishments of pearls, colorful zippers and of course, the word “resistance”.
2.    Research
Over the course of the past few years, I have been growing my brand but also expending my knowledge on activism, socialism and how to become more involved in the community. Since being in college I have grown to have a stronger voice as an artist which has transpired in my artwork as time has passed. Initially, I was very fond of artists such as Kara Walker who illustrates images of rape, racial injustice, the disadvantages of the black community and a variety of other topics. Her work was so influential and so politically and emotionally charged that it was beautiful work to see. Another influential person is Kerby Jean-Raymond who uses his clothing designs to promote advocacy. Even though his social media and runway pieces, he addresses topics such as police brutality and injustices in the black community. Artists with a free voice such as theirs have drawn me to read and educate myself more on artists and authors who were just as influential. Currently, I am reading a book called Pussy by Regena Thomashauer which talks about the inner power a woman has and how beloved a woman should truly be, not only from her counterparts but to herself. It is extremely rewarding to read a book such as this because it talks about how a women’s power and uniqueness get overlooked an underappreciated in our society. A new study posted on September 16, 2019, by CNN stated that 1 in 16 US women was raped for their first sexual experience, and yet rape is still treated as if it’s a minute subject worldwide. Expressing advocacy and awareness through different art forms is needed and I want to do my best to convey this message through my work.
3.    Concept
The mission of The Resistance of Bowie State University is to be a liaison for Bowie State students and administration as an advocate for sexual awareness and safety. This campaign strives to bring social recognition about sexual assault to the student body, faculty, and administration to better security and knowledge on its campus for all genders, sexualities, and diverse backgrounds. The Resistance provides a safe haven for social interaction, activism, and acknowledgment through education, awareness, and advocacy. By using different art forms and creating clothes that illustrate freewill and advocacy, a larger and more effective message will be shown that influences a community to take accountability for their actions in an interactive and informative way. By exposing more people to activism art and fashion, it can provoke feelings within the audience to influence them to further change their actions or mindset on a worldwide issue.
For this collection, the target market consists of women who know what they want and know what is right from wrong. This collection is targeted towards women aged twenty-one to forty years of age. The Resistance represents a woman with a voice whether vocal or not, is always ready to express what she is feeling through the clothing she wears. She enjoys feeling unique and understands that confidence is a major aspect of her femininity. Being herself is her first choice always and will always be true to herself. She is a goal-oriented woman and will stand up to any task when she is needed. She strives for the betterment of others, as well as herself, by promoting well-being for all. Her attention to detail and passion for everything from her education and career to her art and community make her strive for more every day. Her annual income is $60,000 – $80,000 a year, with her educational status being some sort of college degree or higher. Her ethnicity is a broad spectrum ranging from African American, Middle Eastern or Caribbean, to Hispanic, Asian or Caucasian. She enjoys volunteering and reading in her free time to better her community and learn more about activism. Her marital status ranges from single to married, and she is comfortable with being independent if she chooses. She is an all-around dynamic woman who chooses her happiness and her freedom of expression over anything else.
4.    Plan
After properly sketching and having the outfit ideas for the collection, I would need to decide which pieces from the line I would use as interactive pieces of clothing. These pieces would include shirts that speak if a person’s heart races or clothing that would change color.  Because I want the underlying message of this campaign to be informative, placing programming software within the articles of clothing would be accounted for. I would also like this to rent out a venue in Washington DC to display all aspects of the campaign. Showcasing the different art mediums will not be able to be displayed in the student gallery and by hosting an event off-campus I can reach a different audience of people to better promote myself and the clothes. For the off-campus event, I would love to have a casting call to recruit models. The main issue with that is model cost, and properly sizing the models. If I cannot get the correct models, I will have a showcase at a select venue in Washington DC. For the senior showcase on campus, I can recruit people on campus in the following VCDMA majors (such as graphic designers, animators and music tech) to help with my promotion and set up. For both on-campus and off-campus events, I would need to talk to different coordinators and people in charge of different venues to discuss ticket pricing, opening night plans, spacing options and other amenities for a perfect show.
5.    Budget
I would like my clothes to be made with nicer materials so fabrics would cost between $500-800 for the entire collection. I would like my collection to be hosted at Culture Coffee Too in Northeast Washington, DC which would also cost about $150 an hour (and would be rented out for a three-hour period). The LilyPad Arduino or other technology I would be using in the clothing can easily be obtained because of the VCDMA department. I have an adjustable mannequin at home, but otherwise, I would probably have to pay another fee for mannequins used at an off-campus venue as well. Promotion such as business cards, and flyers would not cost as much.

6.    Create
Initially, everything would be made by me using simple sewing machines and fabrics. I currently am starting my collection for my senior thesis to potentially grow and partner with other well-known companies. This will take place between October 2019 and December 2019 to hopefully be taken public by March 2020. Since I would like to later make this into a profitable business, I would continue to promote my work through social media and create a website committed to the movement. If the demand for my brand increases to a point where doing everything myself is too chaotic, I will then either formulate a team to assist in creating my product or get in contact with manufacturers that can efficiently handle the work while still maintaining profitability. If I do take the approach of making an agreement with a manufacturer, I expect them to withhold the same level of quality that fits my company’s standards in order match my more reasonable prices due to the quality of the clothing being provided at an estimated price of $75-300 an item. Currently, I have the entire collection sketched out properly with colors, fabrics, and inspiration. The mood board for the collection is completed as well, along with a blog of inspiration pictures that is featured on Tumblr. Everything is regularly updated to show my progression on how I want this collection to flourish.
7.    Promote
People use social media for many aspects from sharing moments with friends to funny memes and other cultural aspects, and also to announce and promote events. I plan to create multiple different versions of flyers for my event(s) in order to post on both my personal and campaign-focused Instagram page. This is an easy and free way to get people to notice what is happening in the area. Advocating Bowie Students on campus through local means such as face to face also helps with gaining the desired exposure. By the time we have reached promotions, I will have ideally made stronger connections on different levels in order to help promote my events in both social media and local interactions. Also, brochures and posters are two visual ways of getting people to come where graphic designers can also be beneficial. I also understand that people continuously use Facebook as well as Twitter which will advertise to a wider audience of different age ranges. It would significantly increase the number of people who see the event flyers I am posting as well as making sure that more people at least see the information. Even if they do not attend the event, from continuously seeing the brand's information you can become familiar with the work and content created.

Bill T. Jones (born February 15, 1952) is a choreographer, director, author, and dancer. He is the co-founder of the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company. He is Artistic Director of New York Live Arts, whose activities encompass an annual presenting season together with allied education programming and services for artists. Independently of New York Live Arts and his dance company, he has choreographed for major performing arts ensembles, contributed to Broadway and other theatrical productions, and collaborated on projects with a range of fellow artists. He has been called "one of the most notable, recognized modern-dance choreographers and directors of our time." He began to attend Binghamton University, at Binghamton, he shifted his focus to dance. In an interview, Jones noted: "[Binghamton] was where I first took classes in west African and African-Caribbean dancing. Soon I started skipping track practice to go to those classes. It immediately appealed to me. It was an environment that was not about competition." His dance studies at Binghamton encompassed ballet and modern dance. He and his partner, Arnie Zane, toured the world dancing sexually provocative duets. He had danced solos. The pair formed the Bill T. Jones / Arnie Zane Dance Company, recruiting a troupe of individualistic and nontraditional performers who represented different body sizes, shapes, and colors.” “Jones, a choreographic provocateur, presents his ideas about identity, art, race, sexuality, nudity, power, censorship, homophobia, and AIDS-as-chemical-warfare with a streetwise, in-your-face attitude.” Works such as Last Supper at Uncle Tom’s Cabin/The Promised Land and Still/Here are some of his most thought-provoking works. He has choreographed more than 120 documented works. June 2019, to mark the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots, an event widely considered a watershed moment in the modern LGBTQ rights movement, Queerty named him one of the Pride50 "trailblazing individuals who ensure society remains moving towards equality, acceptance and dignity for all queer people". #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence https://www.instagram.com/p/CaADcRVrHsN7LDYoJtpg-c7jCuhQ0RhTn2HmjA0/?utm_medium=tumblr

The Caribbean's Most Popular Entertainment Hub Just Got A Boost
Like a breath of fresh air ahead of Christmas and the New Year, Caribbean entertainment news website, www.ebuzztt.com, the most credible Caribbean entertainment news website in the hemisphere, has delivered a fresh, new look and vibe. “We felt the need to spruce things up a bit going into 2018,” said co-founder and main writer, Aba Luke, adding that she’s truly excited about the improvements made by web designer and partner, Trevyn Roberts of Tippatone.com. He’s the man behind much of Soca artistes Bunji Garlin and Fay Ann Lyons’ Ground Empire artwork and digital design.
It’s been almost six years since the website’s introduction. Luke recalls her initial promise to Caribbean people, saying that it remains pretty much the same to this day. “I wanted to create a platform that would connect us to the world- a place where international onlookers could find credible stories about our culture, our entertainment, our lifestyle in these parts. I wanted to express our unique beauty and provide the fuel that our movers and shakers in entertainment needed, to be seen and heard,” she said.
Back in 2011, it was explained that the site, which at the time had been called, ETCETERABUZZ.COM, was prepared to do what was necessary to make Soca artistes and other cultural stakeholders, their work and elements of themselves, more accessible, better known and better understood. The site was also initially branded as a Trinidad and Tobago entertainment news portal, however, over the years, the enthusiastic team of Roberts and Luke felt inclined to show off the Caribbean as a whole, as much as they possibly could. “Maintaining this massive undertaking- just us two, is not easy. It takes a lot of effort, a lot of passion. More than anything, I love this and Trevyn believes in it,” said Aba.
The site has been credited by several media outlets across the Caribbean and internationally, for stories accessed and reproduced over the years. Ebuzztt.com is now the premiere entertainment news platform for the Caribbean, showing off much of what’s happening in these parts, to global audiences who visit the online hub, from countries like the USA, Canada, Europe and even Japan. “Our reach has certainly grown exponentially since we started off. The social media management, which is done by us, has generated a lot of attention and we link everything to the website so even in our Instagram Stories, you’ll find a link to the website. We’re also on YouTube, Flipboard, Pinterest, Tumblr, Twitter, Facebook- you name it… oh and Snapchat too,” said Roberts.
A Google search for “Caribbean entertainment news” finds Ebuzztt.com at the very top of the list and so to does a search for “Trinidad and Tobago entertainment news.” It’s a great accomplishment for the passionate duo who, while often daunted by the challenges faced in generating income from the website, remain as committed to the mission, as when they began. “We started this as a labour of love. The web is where it’s at now. Advertisers, who are slow to understand and believe this, will also be slow to feel the effects of their brands reaching mass audiences. No longer does a person need to listen to the radio or look at the television, or even pick up a newspaper to know what’s happening around them. The news is delivered instantaneously via the World Wide Web and on your smart device,” said Luke. She said traditional media isn’t to be sidelined, at least not yet, but in the same breath, she warned, Digital media should be taken very seriously in this day and age.
With the buzz about the Caribbean steadily making its way into the popular urban markets, globally, Ebuzztt.com continues to urge Caribbean people everywhere, to be a part of the movement to throw support behind everything Caribbean. “We have to represent ourselves as one Caribbean people. Only then will we be a force to be reckoned. Our music, our lifestyles, our food, our cultures, our Carnivals and festivals- there’s so much bubbling here, so much to be shared for the encouragement of investment, but it must be done sensibly,” said Aba.
Check out the fresh, new website and as Aba and Trevyn put it, “Advertisers we need you to come on board. Don’t be afraid to reach out.”
