Hey there! Love literally all your fics. If you don't mind me asking, what got you into Steve and Dustin (stustin? deve? lol) as a pairing?

So, like pretty much everyone else I started out a huge fan of their S2 friendship. They were adorable, and I loved it, and I ended up reading every single friendship fic that AO3 had to offer. And then I decided to check if there was a ship tag because 1) I had run out of genfic to read, and 2) I legit have no shame.

Turns out there was a tag, and it had a handful of fics in it (!!!), and a few of them belonged to TurtleNovas' Amelioration series, which I ended up reading and absolutely adoring, and an hour later I was a Steve/Dustin (Stustin, I guess?) convert!

Side note, but I have a long history of shipping rarepairs, and these two are honestly the easiest I've ever had to deal with. There's just so little work that needs to be done to move them from friendship to actual ship, y'know? Dustin, canonically, worships the ground Steve walks on, and Steve, in turn, is so attached to Dustin that he spends 90% of S4 in A Mood all because Dustin dared to make a new friend.

The difference between "Idiots Who Love Each Other" and "Idiots in Love" is but a tiny step, and I absolutely adore that about them.

People love him because he was kind of an asshat in season one, but had a genuine redemption arc that was really well done, where he actually had to take action to redeem himself, and learn to apologize and try to be better, and then in season 2 he kind of...got thrust together with the kids in the series and ended up being their long suffering big brother who was gonna protect them no matter what, whether he liked it or not, and it was all very endearing and refreshing.

Not sure how you can make it so you can't see other people, but there's an option in your account settings (it's called Availability) for your own status (this might be a both way fix, I don't know). Also, if it helps with the anxiety/feeling you're being ignored, it will show people as online, even if they just have the tab open and haven't been tabbed in for hours. It's super stupid.

And I completely understand people not replying right away –– rationally I understand that I’m not always in an emotional place to respond right away or that I might pop online but be too busy to answer my messages, or might just lose track of a message here or there etc, and other people have the exact same things going on –– but I’m still hella anxious/depressed/insecure by nature and I hate that there’s this giant green dot now that’s going to make me freeze, check my instinctive “I did something to make them hate me” panic, and rationalize my way through them not responding constantly now. :/

TBH I thought Tumblr had given up on this update. I had it for about an hour last month and then it vanished –– I’d assumed they realized what a shitty idea it was and taken it down, but I guess not :/

SZPURKA'S FIC RECS 1 – HARTWIN EDITION

I’m starting my #CommentForChristmas bullshit with one of my oldest fandoms - the Kingsman fandom that I watched die after the second movie which I’m forever sad about because Kingsman: The Secret Service is my favourite movie. It was also the first fandom I was active in and the first fandom that made me realize fandoms can be a safe space and most of the people there were lovely and awesome and cool and because there Hartwin was the major ship there was little to no ship wars and hate on ships I could see in some of the major fandoms and I hated it and I hate it now, please we all like fanfics and fanarts and different ships, why must we fight all the time instead of encourage each other?

I hold the Hartwin ship and Kingsman fandom close to my heart and that’s why I started with this. They’re not all the fics from my bookmarks, because I honestly don’t remember some of them, because I read them so long ago, but there are some fics I hold close to my heart and after reading a lot of different fic and being in a lot of fandoms, I still love them deeply and I hope you can find something for yourself and made it read some of the stories I mention and give the authors some more love :D

Then I wandered off of tumblr for at least 5 years? (IDK. Time is a difficult concept.) But I have come back.

Why I made a returned to tumblr: Very recently I returned to ‘active’ participation in the TMNT fandom and have tried to use this side blog as a compartmentalized space where I can be obsessively fannish without upsetting folks who followed me for original projects and stuff back on the main blog.

Side blog @deadlyflan ! In hindsight, I wish I’d known from the get-go that I was going to turn this into a fannish blog. I would have used my Kyabetsu handle from FF.net, a ton of old forums, and AO3 and made things easier for myself. ALSO I WISH that I knew that tumblr wasn’t going to ever let me instigate messages with people or reply to posts WITH MY SIDE BLOG HANDLE before I followed 5,000 glorious turtle-people and reblogged their entire brilliant blogs on this account. So yeah, if you wanna talk, turtle-people, you gotta talk to me first, because tumblr won’t let me message you until I’m replying to something you sent. (I can reblog you and comment though! And be in chats! And um... post things.)

God, I envy you! You must really live the perfect life, every day to the fullest, since you find time to send hateful messages to people online! It must make you feel really good about yourself! Here I myself struggle to find the time do everything I want to do, I’ve been meaning to get more fic writing done but it’s hard to find the time you know, first it was school, then you’re with your friends having fun, and family and tbh the world cup has distracted me a lot too. Oh btw, I can’t find that user, have they changed their name or deleted their account? When I searched for it I just found posts where you mentioned them and thanked them for content (that’s nice, that you have a friend!). But anyway, yes I agree (and think every Jancy fan does) that their plotline in s2 had problems, it was underwritten and shoved aside, if I could’ve impacted it I would’ve done it very differently. But hey, lets hope we get better writing overall for the show in s3!

Also btw geniuses: Yes Jancy risked their lives infiltrating the lab, didn’t you realize that upon first viewing? That’s the thing about them, they’re incredibly brave and willing to face bigger dangers head on to get justice and take down the enemy. It’s pretty great that we have characters who think like that instead of just those who insist there’s nothing they can do about all the wrongdoings. Like uh, what’s-his-hair? Right, Steve. Stevie Stevie Steve. Poor Steve who turned his drunk and depressed girlfriend having a breakdown into that it’s his hurt wittle feelings that matters. Poor poor possessive, insecure, toxic masculinity, frail male ego, obsessively-marking-his-territory shitty boyfriend Steve.

Btw, at the end of s1 Jancy saved Hopper and Joyce and Will by catching the Demogorgon in their trap and setting it on fire. And at the end of s2 Nancy saved Will and Joyce and by extension everyone else in the world by getting the Mind Flayer out of Will.
