underverse 0.7 part 2 i am going to fucking talk about some SHIT
Tumblr media
me when i promote owners sans propaganda. WATCH THE SEASON 2 PROLOGUE YOU IDIOTS. ITS IMPORTANT TO THE STORY. JAKEI LITERALLY ANIMATED THIS FOR A REASON, SO WATCH THE FUCKIN THING.
youtube
i wrote this LAST SUMMER. owners sans tickles my brain so badly. he scuttles around there like a fucking menace, traumatized and haunted:
rarely do i think about owners, but every time i do, i feel like it's an overlooked little short that people don't often talk about.
how that sans feels the weight of responsibility after frisk glitched the code
he doesn't have determination to reset or manipulate the code of the world, but because he is the owner, theoretically, he has the power to delete the code. he never would. gods i need to rewatch 0.5 for the billionth time to see the little detials again, but the reason sans is insistent on not resetting is because there is already a happy ending. he doesn't think he can handle going through another timeline reset. he doesn't know if resetting will let frisk regain ownership, but at the same time he just, doesn't want to relive everything all over again. sans and frisk promised. and that's important to him.
this isn't sans undertale by toby fox
this is sans owners by jakei
HES NOT CLASSIC SANS FOR FUCKS SAKE AND IM TIRED OF PEOPLE CALLING HIM THAT
ok thanks for reading now i'm taking a nap bc i woke up at 7am for this, and then i'll be back to actual video analysis <3

Just discovered a massive fucking plot hole that completely ruins 0.6 and Cross’s arc as a whole.
Being: What the fuck caused Cross to suddenly not trust Nightmare in the first place?
And you can’t point to the season one credits as those don’t actually provide any dialogue or context. Cross interfered with an altercation, sure, but he didn’t even get any time to talk to Nightmare about that, consider anything, hear anything, he just did that and got dragged to the Omega Timeline.
There is absolutely no fucking reason for Cross to no longer trust Nightmare. There is no reason for him to suddenly be going “I was used for his own benefit” when Night never did anything that Cross wouldn’t have expected from him.
Nightmare explicitly said “hey but you’ve gotta help me in return” WHEN THEY MET. Cross KNOWS Nightmare is evil and bad news and he DID NOT CARE. Nightmare kept to his word the whole time and never did anything that would have caused a sway in loyalty from Cross (aside from the obvious threats). He genuinely helped him out how he said he would and encouraged him through his struggles in his own dark, twisted way.
SO WHY IN 0.6 IS NIGHTMARE SUDDENLY THE EMBODIMENT OF CROSS’S INNER DEMONS AND HURTING HIM? Don’t get me wrong, Nightmare is possessive, Nightmare is reckless, Nightmare would 100% do something stupid in the name of regaining a follower, but why is he suddenly Cross’s enemy when he NEVER WRONGED HIM!?
You can point to what he said to X!Chara, but that’s X!CHARA, not Cross. Cross probably wouldn’t know about that and besides, once again, it’s nothing that Cross hasn’t seen before from Nightmare.
But all of a sudden Cross regrets being on Night’s team, Nightmare is a big baddie, and we’re supposed to just trust Dream for no good reason??? Jakei, I love your work, Underverse is one of my favorite things ever, so it is with a fan’s concern that I say that THIS IS BAD WRITING. Underverse does way more telling and not nearly enough showing.
This disgrace of a plot hole has completely ruined Cross’s arc and Nightmare’s character as a whole, and all in the name of shoehorning in a “redemption arc” for Cross when he never needed one and pushing useless Cream propaganda(though the latter may just be my own suspicion).
As someone who cares a lot about this series and wants to see it absolutely shine, what the actual fuck?
edit: additional thoughts and other notions have been added onto or changed since this initial essay was posted, see notes for further development, discussion, and analysis.
Edit 2: y’all this is over a year old please fuck off

So, Underverse 0.7 Huh?
As you may or may not have heard, Underverse 0.7 Part One released on youtube and it was BEAUTIFUL, absolutely incredible stuff as always. I, however, am a freak, and while all of the episode was wonderful and a delightful next part to the Underverse story, there is only one thing I plan to talk about.
If you know anything about me you know what we’re here for.
Tumblr media
Let’s talk about Fresh and his most recent appearance in Underverse.
For this post specifically, let’s talk specifically about him in combat- Magic especially.
First off I’m making these for two reasons!! Reason one is because I’m incapable of being normal about Fresh and seeing him delights my heart immensely. Reason two is because I’ve seen a lot of people surprised or confused about things that I was so intimately familiar with that it baffled me people DIDN’T know!
And then y’know I remembered that most people didn’t spend weeks at a time hunting down every scrap of information about fresh from any source that was connected to the source material whatsoever (be it LoverOfPiggies herself, friends that interacted closely with her, or creators that had reached out to ask for information themselves).
SO now I’m here to share what I know with everyone else!! With the fair warning that I am deep in it and also have very strong opinions and an ego the size of the sun, and also the warning that this is also my interpretation of what happened based on what I know and an analysis of Fresh’s portrayal in Underverse compared to the information on Fresh available.
Let’s start with one of the most shockingly unknown facts I’ve seen people be surprised about;
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Fresh’s Furbies blew up!?? They were BOMBS?”
Yep!!!! This has been a part of his arsenal for a LONG time, along with the baseball bat- and this information was in fact straight from CQ, answered and public for the past 6 years
Tumblr media
Fresh has essentially always been able to do this!! Or, more accurately, HAS been doing this? Same thing I think, you get the gist. Furbies rigged to blow and a bat (wiffle in the answer, but I’d say baseball bat is a fair substitute) to smack someone around with has been a weapon he uses for a long time.
This is also the best place to bring up how physically capable Fresh is. Fresh is FIT, and SKILLED, he knows how to move and how to use a weapon- or at least how to hit someone real hard with something. As seen in the first pictures he is using that bat beautifully against Error- but he does this twice actually!!
Tumblr media
Fresh seems, at the very least, familiar with blunt weapons like bats, using them twice in the span of a single episode, wowie- and there are a lot of reasons I could see this being the case! All of his weapons are things he can easily explain away- the furby bombs? Little friends! Baseball bat? That’s just a sport objects, y’know, something for games! Stick of markers connected end to end? Honestly who hasn’t snapped those things together and pretended to have a very long marker or an epic stick when given the opportunity.
This would be MUCH harder to do with something more traditionally recognized as a weapon. You think he can walk around with some kind of KNIFE?? Absolutely not! That’s dangerous! Someone could get hurt! Or suspect him of being a threat! He would never want to do that- and any physical weapons otherwise fall under similar issues. Sure he probably COULD get ahold of swords, hammers, tridents, or any other kind of weapon- but those are decidedly weapons and he is decidedly harmless.
There’s also the matter of his spacial awareness and body control
Tumblr media
Look at the pose he has here. This is a pose he holds for multiple seconds, up until he’s counter attacked and physically pulled out of it. That’s INCREDIBLE balance, and potentially a testament to how strong or how lightweight ink is- but also, LOOK at that pose! That’s not just any pose to me. That looks similar to a handplant- a skateboarding trick that involves pausing upside down on one hand while you hold the board and other hand above you. Obviously, there are differences, including but not limited to a distinct lack of board…
But that’s also not what I’m getting at. I’m getting at the fact that physically, he’s OBVIOUSLY skilled. He TRAINS himself- and he likely pulls from the knowledge and skills around his “interests” in order to do some of the movements he has! We absolutely saw him doing little skateboard tricks when running from ink, this is very much so in line with that and completely in the realm of possibility for him. Don’t even get me started on how he manages to heely backwards at high speeds without absolutely wiping out.
This DOES bring up an interesting question though!! What about other magic?
The answered ask by CQ is a bit vague, honestly- and there are PLENTY of examples of Fresh using magic drawn by CQ herself that eludes to a higher capability than just physical objects set up for violence (Coloured bone magic attacks and the “FRESH POOF!” come to mind immediately for me, in art with Pacifrisk and comics respectively), so what CAN Fresh do?
Tumblr media
It’s… hard to answer that solidly, honestly. There’s a lot of interpretations for this answer, from a variety of sources that were (at the time) in close proximity to CQ and Fresh especially- The most typical interpretation is that Fresh is able to at minimum use the same magic as his current Host, and this DOES seem to be the interpretation Underverse runs with!! You can tell based on the second (third?) fight scene, more on that when I get there in another post.
I will say! It does seem like Fresh has some abilities not explained wholly by his host, unless what he’s capable of is partially because his host isn’t sans, it’s some other kind of skeleton who may just be able to do those things.
Tumblr media
Fresh has shown to be able to definitely use: Teleportation (Both with Fresh Poof and without if he chooses to). I think it’s also fair to assume he has access to other kinds of magic- Dimensional Magic being an option here given the retrieval/stashing of various objects throughout the episode (putting the furbies in place, suddenly having Ink’s sash visible, and suddenly having a skateboard being prime examples).
I would argue that the ability to censor people’s swears also falls under magic, as do his visual effects (like the question marks) and the word changes on his shades, but THAT is also dependent on whether or not you see “fourth wall shenaniganery” as a magic or not. There’s also a point where he jumps up and flips upside down in order to avoid getting blasted by ink that I could easily relate to the gravity-esque magic Sans has- y’know, that thing where he makes your soul fall in a certain direction? Like that! Food for thought.
Tumblr media
There’s also the possibility that Fresh has the magic of being funny. And that’s only mildly a joke- magically being able to do things that would be funny or amusing in a given situation IS very in line with the kind of character he is and could explain a lot of the nonsense he has access to- of COURSE he can just summon stuff at will, it’s hilarious when he does that and it makes him a delight to watch. Again, Fourth Wall Shenaniganery Magic in that case though.
By the way. Fresh is very, VERY aware of the fourth wall. This I’m going to be making its own post about.
Tumblr media
ANYWAYS I think that’s all I have to say about the magic use on his part in underverse- I have NOT gotten into the possession here because that is it’s OWN thing but do be aware that possessing people is also obviously something he can do and you love to see that. Enjoy and look forward to my further upcoming posts about Fresh!

Analyzing Dreamtale
This is just another one of my theories. Seriously, Dream has been my comfort character ever since I was in middle school and I'm in college now. I was a dumb-dumb kid back then, and I returned to watching Underverse after I saw Dream fighting and now I've been sucked back to this hellhole. Now, this isn't about Dream or Nightmare, though. This theory is about Nim and Dreamtale.
Dreamtale belongs to @jokublog ! I'm not claiming to own it in any way. It does not belong to me. Just making a theory about it. ♡
Tumblr media
From the wiki itself.
Tumblr media
From another analysis in amino.
I always get annoyed when people harasses creators, especially when they go, 'DrEaMtAlE iS iN uNdErTaLe So It'S aN aU'.
It's stated that Dreamtale is and is not an AU at the same time. It didn't happen in the multiverse of Undertale. The trees are in the middle of each multiverse, in a world right next to one another — which would mean that the trees are located in the center of the ommiverse? For a quick context;
Tumblr media
While the word 'ommiverse' has various meanings and interpretation, the fixed meaning would be the entirety of fiction altogether. Each book, each shows, each games have their own multiverses and all those multiverses are part of the ommiverse. For example, Undertale has many AUs so it has its own multiverse. But so does Pokemon, Harry Potter, and other works of fiction. They all have multiverses, which makes up the ommiverse. Ommiverse is the home to all multiverses. So to say that the three trees (life, feelings and mana) are located in the middle of the multiverses would be saying that these trees have existed amidst the ommiverse, delivering a balance of magic, emotions and life to each verses — Undertale included.
The other definition of would simply be an accumulation of multiverses from a single franchise or something. For example, DC. They have their animated multiverse, the dark multiverse, the main multiverse etc etc but with their very same characters just different stories and worlds.
I'm highly leaning towards the first one because Joku stated that Dreamtale is outside of Undertale in the first place. Dreamtale is not a part of Undertale nor is it an AU. It's a separate story, a seperate world with its own seperate tale.
Now, in this image of Nim, created by Joku herself, it's stated that Nim found out something terrible about the other guardians and slowly distanced herself from them before eventually cutting them off completely. In the wiki, it says that she felt unsafe around them and relocated to the Undertale multiverse altogether. They didn't originally belong there, she simply entered Undertale for refuge.
They were not from there. Maybe the world where the tree of feelings is in is just called 'Dreamtale' to make it seem like a part of the Undertale multiverse or maybe that's what it's originally called; The tale of dreams. We'll never know. But what we do know is that they're outsiders. They don't belong in Undertale whatsoever, no codes, no nothing. They occasionally break the fourth wall, too. They have no connection to this universe aside from the fact that they give emotions to maintain balance.
We all know that Dream and Nightmare aren't Sanses. They're energy balls, souls with the vessels of Sanses. They aren't humans or monsters. They're different entities altogether.
Joku made a post saying that even Dream and Nightmare believe that they're from the Undertale multiverse, but soon enough they'll know. They grew up in Undertale so they think that they're from there when originally, they aren't. The only relation they have to the game and AUs is that their vessels are in the forms of Sans but aside from that, there's nothing more. They don't have the blasters, the bones, or the eyelights. But based on the speculation that they're omniversal, I'd immediately assume that they're powerful entities. Hell, even Joku confirmed that Dream can jump from one multiverse to another cause he doesn't belong to Undertale in the first place. Dream can casually exit the game and go to another. Imagine that? Only that Nim forced him to Undertale altogether. How? We'll never know either. But the fact still stands that Nim and the apple twins are major anomalies to the Undertale multiverse. Dreamtale is and is not an AU at the same time.
Again, this is just another theory since I'm a fan of the story and have the tendency to over-analyze things. :)

UNDERVERSE 7 PART 2 SPOILER WARNING
i have such awful brainrot and i'm a really big fan of ink; i love doing character analysis and will pay attention to small details in animation or any type of media (and as an animator myself I love looking at details)
spoilers under cut
Now I'm not sure if this was intentional, but Ink's eyes only turn to this magenta / pink when he is looking at Cross / Cross is on screen in the newest Underverse (7.0 part 2) --- This is my first watch through, and I notice a lot of people head-canon that the pink in Ink's eyes mean love of some sort examples being: - Cross and Ink fighting in their initial meeting, Ink getting punched in the face and looking up with a magenta-ish tint to his eye (6:26) - Cross grabs Ink by the scarf, and while letting him go, brushes his thumb against Ink's cheek. Ink's eye turns a pink toned magenta. ( This is a slight color difference from the previous frame ) ( 6:41 ) - Geno and AltClassic Sans (forget which one, but I don't want to go back at the moment) say [ * that's how the x-event incident come to our memories the moment we look at your face. ] Ink and Cross share eye contact, the frame that they look at each other, Ink's eye is a noticeable, bright shade of magenta (6:02) - ( a similar shade, but more purplish, but NOT the same color of purple as the "nervous / pain" feeling is shown when Ink is pinned to a tree by Cross' sword (5:20) ) - Cross is laying on the floor with a slash through his chest, talking about how it was kind of nice that they fought, and that this probably won't be the last time. Ink's eye changes to a pink / magenta, and only changes when XGaster starts speaking (15:10) I noticed that this doesn't happen with other characters within this episode (such as Dream or Classic, even when he's excited to see him), and it's been a few weeks since I've watched the entire thing, so I'm not sure if this is a re-occurring detail. any thoughts? just wanted to bring this up for discussion, as i've not seen other people notice it :)?
i did NOT RE READ THIS but i've been rambling about it to my friends for the past 30 minutes and my good friend looked through to see if anyone else had mentioned it to no avail

Le cœur a sa mémoire :(Heart got his memory)
Another theoretical analysis about Underverse! More specifically about Error's character, his development, his personality and what might be going through his mind in the context of the series.
When you look at Error's behaviour in Underverse and compare it to his behaviour in the original comic, you quickly realise that it's not the same. And when you browse through the various versions of Error to be found in fandom, whether in fan fiction, comics or simple gags, it's this version of the Underverse that's found with varying degrees of nuance. In other words, a serious, grumpy, tsundere Error who hiss at the first person he meets. And... I'm really not a fan of this Error, because in my opinion it's less interesting and, above all, leads to received ideas that head straight for the cliché highway. Why do we have this skewed image of the character? Is it really inconsistent and unworthy of his integrity? Is this a bad thing, and does Underverse follow this line? Should we limit ourselves to saying that Underverse isn't canon so there's no reason to criticise constructively or even try to find connections?
Obviously not, because with a bit of imagination (and philosophy), there's (almost) always a way to put the pieces of the jigsaw together to give it concrete form! First of all, let's dissociate the Canon version of Error from its Fanon version.
In terms of personality, Error Canon is more like the Collector in The Owl House than the vampire-spider Miguel O'Hara in Spiderverse. An unhinged and paranoid Collector, but all the same. He's chatty, he smiles, and has no trouble talking to anyone, whether it's the creators who ask him questions, his prisoner Swap!Sans, or that strange visitor, the Sans that Fresh usually owns. It's a far cry from the grumpy, withdrawn character who refuses all human contact. In the comic, his reticence is often relatively controlled, and in any case, if he does do any harm, it very rarely comes back to the Gaster blasters. When Swap gives him a completely off-the-wall speech about friendship, yeah, he abandons him temporarily in the Anti-Void to teach him a lesson, but even in a panic he doesn't hurt or attack him. When he thinks he's being manipulated by Darkblitz8, he hangs her high into the air with his strings, but nothing more. Then he calms down straight away and quietly puts his hands back in his pockets and says, "What a nice lady, I love making new friends."
"Love. Making. New friends."
Yes, that's Error saying that, can you believe it? It's said as a joke, but OF COURSE he's sincere... And for a thousand and one reasons. What I mean is that, like every Sans else, he more has a tendency to hide his thoughts behind jokes or false humour than to reject or attack others. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but it's a tendency.
The only time he pulls out his blasters (outside of destroying AU's) is when he gets a surprise hug from behind and when FRESH shows up out of nowhere. So it's relatively legitimate (but only relatively because there's nothing legitimate about exterminating your neighbour Ú^Ù).
Nevertheless, the Fandom version and the original version have one thing in common: Error is completely anti-social, fearful of others, and hates himself viscerally without admitting it to himself. But the "Tsundere" version is highly caricatured, with temperaments that are sometimes the exact opposite of what Error is! He is portrayed as cold, distant, incapable of not shouting when something displeases him, and so on. But in reality he answers questions, accepts a handshake from a stranger and even describes it as "pleasurable", talks about his tastes, admits word for word that he likes having people to talk to, concedes to requests... The only sensitive subjects are his personal problems, which include Papyrus, Toriel and, of course, himself.
But he hates glitches, right? The AU's and all that, he hates them?
Yes, he hates them, but subconsciously he makes a dissociation between the mass of shapeless glitches and an individual. When he goes to destroy AUs, they're glitches. When he meets someone at random and starts to build a human relationship with them (Swap), he almost forgets that he's supposed to hate him.
Canon Error plays the villain, but in fact he's a frightened little beast in denial about his extreme loneliness and strong self-hatred. This also fits the fandom version, but in a kind of misunderstood inverse: not only does he lose all his glitched, unpredictable, paranoid and nightmarish side, but above all he also loses his cute and childlike side, naive, unaware of social references like the term "ship", with surprising tastes and a real desire to form bonds when he feels it's safe to do so. As a result, he loses that strange duality that creates a feeling of unease, a mixture of fear and attachment, because we sense that he has totally human emotions but is too deranged to be able to be a truly healthy friend with anyone... He can hardly even be described as a narcissistic pervert, because he has already shown real compassion and even if he blames people for his misfortune, he won't tell them directly or make them feel guilty about it; he's more likely to say it to himself. He's more direct when he's in "destroyer" mode, but it's still accusations about people's glitch state in a general sense, like a "hate you all". No, he's not even just an asshole, he's just.... Insane. We forget that he's insane.
Also, when he feels threatened, Error will automatically step into his villain role with sardonic laughter and striking retorts. The Fanon version, on the other hand, will spit in the person's face and express his anger. He's rational, hateful, sinister, a killjoy and stable in his tempestuous character. Of course, there are fanarts and gags where the cute side is brought out... But they're usually just gags, and in fanfiction and comics they're rarely shown and often anecdotal without much imagination...
OK, I've been talking about the Fanon version for a while now, but does Error in Underverse have this problem?
Well...
No ┐( ∵ )┌!
Firstly because in Underverse it's moderate, and he's presented in situations where it's understandable (the majority of his interactions are with Ink, his sworn foe so obviously he's going to be on the defensive), but also, we'll see later, because the series raises an important side of who Error has become over the course of time, and confronts him with an ultimatum, where his status quô goes is smashed to pieces.
I'm not in favour of Error being ultra-aggressive and cold in stories in general because I find it makes him interesting as a dead rat, but portraying him as more serious, intelligent and aware of the world around him isn't a bad choice. How can we explain it?
Well... He grew old, that's all.
The Error of Underverse, and by extension of the Fandom, is a character who has evolved, been revisited and experienced in many different ways. He's gone from the "guy who messes things up in the AU's" to the "Destroyer", his overall power too has increased as fans have seen his potential for danger, which may be a parallel to the fact that he's... simply trained and toughened up as he goes along? There's nothing to stop us imagining a future based on the Canon we've been left with. He simply accumulates memory. Even the fact that Ink and Error are enemies, it isn't canon, but... Well, it makes perfect sense, because by putting universes in danger, of course he had to face the protector at some point!
Error has visited AU's, encountered situations that have taught him lessons... He has grown in maturity. Fine, he still gets nought for emotional maturity, but he has grown anyway, which is normal and a good thing (because if the characters never evolved in an open world, we'd be a bit bored all the same).
That said, there's a rather annoying glitch that's going to mess things up a bit...
It's her again, Ma'am the Canon description ! ✧◝(⁰▿⁰)◜✧
In Canon, canonically, in real real real real.... Error is incapable of evolving. It's in his nature, quite simply. Because he's an "error".
According to Crayon Queen, the ending of Error's comic should have gone like this: Swap! Sans, as a result of being exposed to the Anti-Void, becomes an error in his own right, an erratic and unhinged being whose character and memory become dislocated and distorted. He retains his positive and heroic character, so it doesn't make him a villain, but he remains unpredictable and difficult to follow, and therefore dangerous. Error will feel horrible about this and will even be confronted with a deep guilt that will convince him to let him go. "Blueberror" will then be guided into the Omega Timeline by Core Frisk where he will go to live. And Error will find himself alone again in the Anti-Void, alone in this white nothingness, alone in the middle of All. As time goes by, he will forget all about the experience and return to the person he was before without questioning, for such is the destiny of errors. Corrupted things with no hope of salvation.
Yes, it's tragic, but that's the way it is! And Passive!Night is dead, get used to it!
(Never! QwQ)
(*Rubbing her hands) What if we tried to slip through the cracks and get round this restrictive element, all the while respecting the character and his universe?
Come on, let's get started?
We're off!
So why does Error lose his memory?
Because he's an error, all right. But is that all? Aren't there other remarkable factors that make him forget?
Already, exposure continues to the Anti-Void, where living leads to harmful consequences. To explain why, I had theorised that, being the opposite of the Void, it was the Core of the Multiverse, also known as the Great Whole, where codes intersect and aggreate. –I've done some research in the meantime and the Doodlesphere can't really be a Core, because it's Ink's 'private' dimension. It's an empty zone (perhaps an empty AU which is recognisable by its nature as a white or off-white nothingness without, however, corresponding to the properties of the Anti-Void) where the painter has grouped together some sort of links to access the AUs. It's a bit like a custom Doc document with thousands of URLs, but not a Heart.–
Exposed to the Anti-Void for too long, some of our codes end up merging with the dimension; we lose some, we receive some, until we become errors, a bit like a slow dissolution. Our memory is obviously affected. At the moment of transformation, but perhaps also as we continue to be exposed to it?
If you don't like this theory, there's also the fact that, well... It's a void. White. No wind, no heat or cold, no light, no shadow, no palpable matter. EVIDENTLY it causes an alteration in the brain and memory. If Error left the Anti-Void for somewhere less... Creepy, it's easy to imagine that his continual amnesia would be less severe.
And finally, the last and most important reason...
Error is alone and bored shitless.
Now let's going to do a bit of philosophy, because philosophy of the real world is science of fiction.
What is Memory (and owh shet I don't have fucking idea of the nuances of vocabulary in English philosophy–) ?
(Well in French "Souvenir" is meanging like memory and "Mémoire" the global uniting of the memories, I suppose there exists a term to make the nuance but I don't know enough about it so... Let's say that Souvenir = memory and Mémoire = Memory, okay?
Sorry ...TwT)
So, roughly speaking, it's the collection of our memories recorded by a stade of consciousness of a moment that was present but is now past. Not to be confused with storage medium: there's a lot of information recorded by the brain that we can't remember (in Error's case it's most certainly out of order too, at least in part).
The conditions for a memory are as follows: to fixate on an object, situation or person in order to take aware of it. Reflecting enables this to happen, because reflecting is about taking the initiative and interrupting the flow of thought in order to consider a specific idea; thinking that you've had that thought. It's like a computer: there are lots of images stored inside, but you won't have access to them, or only with difficulty, if you don't think about printing them out in physical format. In any case, to have a Memory, you need a trigger, something that connects you to reality and makes you say: I remember that.
And Error doesn't have that. There's nothing memorable about his life as an anomaly. He is alone, all the time, in a nothingness where nothing happens, where there is nothing beautiful. A memory is only a memory if we have a consciousness of a past and a present. But Anti-Void has no day, no night, no timetable, no real time. And the only time Error goes out is to kill masses of people he doesn't care about and doesn't even consider to be living beings. He doesn't care about the AU's he destroys. If we were to make a scrapbook of his holiday memories... It would be limited to sewing, sleep, Undernovela, destruction, conversation with imaginary people (his dolls or even us), Outertale, sewing, sleep.
He's alone and he FEELS alone. So lonely that he hears voices in his head, so lonely that he talks to his own dolls. He needs others. We can even assume, in the Canon at least, that he's an extrovert.
Yes, I just said Error was extroverted, and that's extremely weird 😅
But really, it's not so crazy. An extrovert is defined by the way the person resources themselves. Introverted, by being alone, extroverted, by seeing people. It's perfectly possible to be extroverted AND asocial and anti-anti-anti-antisocial. And there you boned a bit.
I'm not making any claims, what I can see is that Error has a certain ease in expressing himself and talking about himself (as long as it doesn't have to do with his problems) and that he's quite talkative. But then, maybe he's something else, intro or ambi, because in his condition of absolute solitude, ANYONE would have an immense need to be with other people.
Besides, don't you think that in his comic, the longer he lives with Swap, the more logical, stable and thoughtful he becomes? It's experience that accumulates. It's the Memory that works. Because with Swap, a friend at last, he can remember what's going on and realise how much time has passed. When he learns to knit with him, when he watches Undernovela with him, when he answers the creator's questions with him, and so on.
It's only after Swap has gone that Error closes in on himself again, letting the Anti-Void devour him once more.
To have a Memory, Error needs to get out of Anti-Void AND have a face, someone he can see fluently to remind him of his past experiences. And who fills that role perfectly in the Fandom, I'll give you three guesses?
Ink.
This is arguably the strongest no-canon relationship in the Undertale Multiverse. His exchanges with Ink, whether it's a confrontation, a tempestuous dialogue or a bullshit funny, all these little interactions help to forge an emotional bond between the two nemeses.
Whether fans develop this into a rivalship, a bromance or a romance, who cares,
EVIDENTLY Ink is very important to him.
EVIDENTLY he sees him, in some twisted way, as a friend.
Because Ink's the ONLY stable, long-term human relationship he has. And the only way to keep that bond is to keep destroying over and over again to get the painter's attention, and maybe even other people's attention. And given that Error's incapable of being healthy with anyone, because he hates himself too much and is too afraid of other people, what better way to show his attachment than with an "I hate you"?
I'm going to use a really stupid reference here, but Error has a bit of a Dory memory. She forgets everything as she goes along, but from the moment she meets Marlin, she forgets less and less. All she has to do is look at his face and she remembers everything they've been through. And afraid he'll abandon her all alone again, because she doesn't want to forget again.
What if that's what Error was afraid of in Underverse, when Ink 'abandons' him to go and play with X-Gaster? What if he's afraid that if he loses him, all his progression he accomplished so far will go up in smoke?
Ink is Error's Memory. It's very ironic.
And the icing on the cake is that Ink has a lot in common with Error: faced with extreme loneliness in a white void, loss of Memory, ignorance of the conscious state of the beings around them... Ink expresses this suffering through a desire to protect, and Error through a desire to destroy (it's superbly explained in THIS comic you'll found just after validated by the creator, I recommend it!) Isn't he the perfect friend? The funny thing is that in Underverse, the roles are 'reversed'. Ink is prepared to destroy everything, while Error is prepared to do anything to save what attention he has left. OK, he destroys the AU's, but he doesn't care about the AU's, he cares about Ink. He had the chance all along to do it, but he waited until the ultimatum. Because his battles with the painter and his status as quô are vital to him. He was pushed to the limit to commit the irreparable.
If that, is not two lunatics walking on a beam, I don't know what is.
I'm extrapolating here, but imagine that the odd island in the middle of the sea had been requisitionee by Error to be his new den precisely because he'd had enough of the Anti-Void and the memory loss it was causing him? Perhaps, having had a truce with Ink, he no longer felt the need to protect himself from him by staying in the Anti-Void (since Ink has a great fear of white spaces, it makes a good lair) and he was able to move in later. After all, the only time we see him in the Anti-Void is when Ink kicked him back in the arse and in the 2nd Xtrascene when he's snoozing. It's as if he's been sleeping off his wine or something, as if he's gone back there in a fit of rage to forget everything again in frustration at seeing Ink having fun without him. Haven't you noticed that the dolls and the footstool he sits in only exist in his dream? And that when he wakes up, he's on the floor with nothing around him? Why didn't he sleep in his footstool? It's as if he's actually moved all his stuff, except his souls, since they're best kept in the Anti-Void by Ink. The footstool isn't on the island in Xtra scene 1, but it is in Comic the Truce, Error moved it. Maybe he really leaved the Anti-Void and is only using it as a repository for souls? All this just to... Stop being mad? Live a more or less normal life? Become aware of who he is and... Simply be?
Very capylotract but I love this theory xD
And I also think that Error doesn't just see Ink as a tool or a means. I think he really thinks the two of them have a special relationship. Because he's romantically inclined, which is suggested by his Sans past, his taste for Outertale and the fact that he watches a rosewater series with a ship where his alternative version and the alternative version of the woman he loved are in a misunderstood and forbidden relationship, because he's afraid but also wants to be loved deep down given that he's incapable of giving himself self-esteem, because he shows intense frustration when Ink doesn't show him that it's mutual...
And because RIVALSHIP! It would be a perfect match for the Joker/Batman relationship in the Lego Batman movie and I think it's HANDSOME!!!! (*shakes fan-girling head)
(I don't know if Jakei will go with what I have developed but whatever she does will still be super awesome, I wouldn't worry about it ✧◝(⁰▿⁰)◜✧!)
.
Error belongs to @loverofpiggies
Ink belongs to @comyet
Underverse belongs to @jakei95

my thoughts about underverse .7pt2 :0 most of this is xvials adjacent. but its also... not? i try not to let my romanticizing of them get in my way but its mostly analysis of their friendship and minor jokes strewn in.
Tumblr media
OKAY FIRST THINGS FIRST. 'welcome home, pink.' /ref (thats it JDVSKABDKWM)
okay, really tho??
loosing my mind. cross and ink fighting ??? geno and sans literally watched a son punch his dad okay??? embarassing. HAHAHA.
but oh my god. idk where to start so i guess it might be a bit sporadic.
i honestly thought ink was going to start crying in the forest when they were talking about xgaster. "hes hiding somethinf from everyone." I HONESTLY THOUGHT THEY WOULD CRY BUT THEY DIDNT. I THINK IF THEY TOOK THE BLUE VIAL THEY WOULDVE.???? BUT MAYBE THEYRE SAVING IT FOR XG (AS MY FRIEND POINTED OUT) AND IM INCLINED TO BELIEVE IT BECAUSE IT SOUNDS... RIGHT???
how do you,,, how do you experience *pain* for the first time EVER, from your best friend!???? and not react at all. ink has to be feeling *SOMETHING* in that moment. or maybe theyre running on empty and trying to hold themself together after experiencing xg's pain. :'( i mean. THEY EVEN SAID THAT THEY *THINK* FATAL'S STRINGS HURT BUT THEY WOULDN'T KNOW BUT . U JUST EXPERIENCED IT LIKE. TEN MINUTES AGO WITH FRESH GOD DAMN IT SOBS!??????
"i just want to know what it is." U GOOBER. u fucking goober,,, u love him so dearly you can't understand the idea of him being in pain.... you need him to be alright. ,,, theyre so fucking romantic./j
lays down. honestly the fight was okay n i liekd the music (nyx always make bangers man???) but i don't really have much. xgaster fears making mistakes and the uncertainty of it all, whatever his grand plan is. he still keeps his favorite people close however, xfrisk, xchara, cross, xpapyrus, and ink. i do think gaster and fatal were working somewhat together, tbh that scene is working too fast for my brain to handle and really read in depth, but also. its kinda irrelevant to me but ill analyze it later like i always do.
the thing with cross tho. thats what gets me. i know that xgaster hadnt intended to kill cross, but the opportunity seemed to present itself in that moment. destroying cross would stop gaster and/or fatal and would allow cross to return to his 'owner' xgaster.
but theres also the uncertainty. that that was the end of cross- and yet; ink never lost that. they were SO certain xgaster would bring cross back, so sure cross would wake up with xg again... (lays down. try not to cry. cry a lot.) its not ideal, but xg wanted him back, and by any means hell have it.
the last bit of thought i have is the... "dont be stupid." i cant read that as condescending or anything, its simply a warning to ink, and it doesnt make it right how he says it, but it just. "ink. dont be stupid." he referred to them by name. he knows that ink is starting to go against him and yet... he doesnt want ink to.
"dont be stupid." it ironically makes me rlly happy. maybe im reading too much into it but.
his last stance. his last reminder. he doesnt want to loose ink, but if ink is 'stupid', he *will* shove them away. ink needs to save xgaster. that is what is important. im so sure of it. yes the multiverse and everything is at stake but. the core of it *all* is xgaster. and if xgaster isnt stopped, by ink themself, by frisk n xchara... im so sure of there ability ot help xg. im so sure that ink will put aside everything to help their friend.
okay the real last bit i have; and its related to cross and chara. i feel like this might lead to some sort of apology between chara and cross and that makes me want to yell with happiness !!!,,, they shared a soul, they shared a scar,,, i wonder if chara and cross ever shared thoughts or feelings like they did with xgaster's soul half. "its a painful and lonely past." they both suffered. they both survive... i think cross misses chara.. just a little.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
idk, the way he looks tonthe side, like... hes not proud of using chara for world hopping, but chara used him too. they werent healthy but they were together,, chara owes him an apology, just as much as cross does too.
okay i think thats all. my nonsense is unstoppable.

major underverse spoilers please go watch beforehand
HOW WAS I RIGHT THE FUCK HO WHNE HOW
I KNEW XGASTER WOULD PULL SOME SHIT WITH INK
AND FATAL
AND OG GASTER
SHIT
okay okay let's get my thoughts together
it was really well done, the animation was wonderful, loved seeing Geno survive.
I really liked how she tied in the whole 'multiverse it literally fucking gone rn' part which I've been wondering about and wondered if it even meant much?? good to know it did like
I loved that she didn't have the normal text box for fatal since that's accurate to the og comic
And cross..... cross fucking dying...... augh that hurt me in the feels
I'm happy that Ink got punched too, he deserved it
I'm going to go back when I'm not still shellshocked to give a better analysis but great new episode, great music, and great animation.

I am still on that Underverse analysis high SOOOOOO
This time, it’s the soundtrack. It’s more so just going over the soundtrack and connecting the (pretty obvious) dots between song titles and animation, not much of actual “analyzing” because there’s not much to analyze. But ho BOY the names for each OST reflects what is happening in the animation WELL. Nyx did a phenomenal job with these and I can’t give him enough credit for this.
Tumblr media
Uncertainty starts us off with the crew at the city and, indeed, uncertain of the situation and how they should approach. Undyne decides to follow along the human military, but everything is unknown. They don’t know what they are facing.
Wicked Extravaganza and Overdrive are reflective of xMuffet’s and xMettaton’s themes (Insurrect and Guardian Automata). They use similar sounding instruments, so you KNOW who the main character on screen is. Love that.
A Cure for Amnesia plays during xGaster confrontation with Frisk, and Overwriting all the monsters to recover memories from different timelines. Amnesia is where you constantly lose memory, so xGaster recovering all of those memories by force. Ironic how cure is being used here as a positive word in a conflicting situation.
Breaking Point features Frisk running from their consequences and afraid to face them, while xChara’s calls xGaster out, telling him that he’s gone too far with pressuring Frisk to abide to him. Also, you can hear xChara’s leitmotif during his scenes (Overwrite).
Remembrance is a flashback to when Ink first started talking with xGaster, explaining how his vials work (which does set up the how Fresh possess him during that fight). Ink comments in his destroyed doodlesphere that “We’ve come so far that none of this seems real, or feels real.” Everything seems so long ago yet it feels like it happened just yesterday, doesn’t it. Remember how the plan began from simple beginnings? And look where we are now.
I’m not really going to comment on Mismatch and Sweet Sweet Swagger mainly because those are character themes and not episode related. So uhhh there aren’t really dots to connect here to the animation.
Subliminal Gift is an interesting song. Yes the title reflect what is happening, Fresh asking Ink about the gift that isn’t at all useful to him, but the sound design makes me MMMMM. It’s very subtle, but the background music uses similar instruments to (the beginning of) Brushwork and the main theme uses a synth, which does reference early 90s synth computer sound, and also his character theme (Sweet Sweet Swagger).
Now, Prologue is the one that has me stumped. I am genuinely confused by this name and what it could imply, and also the main reason for writing this mini analysis. Why is Prologue the title of the end of 0.7? There are probably a few ways to interpret this, and what I’m going to write is my own thoughts and rambles, but I don't know how accurate it could be.
My best cohesive thought process was that this episode, but more specifically the entire confrontation between Ink Fresh and Error, also serves as a prologue to Phase 3, as mentioned by Ink himself during 0.5, although it also seems a bit on a nose. But that could also just be it. A prologue to Phase 3. It seems the most probable to me and makes the most sense. Core even speaks in a way that made it seems like this is next new mark in this story (and Ink outfit change as well :D)
I would love to see other interpretations and thoughts about Prologue, or if I nailed it on the dot. I wonder tho haha.

Pin post cause I wanna set ground rules before I do anything on here
Updated: 5/22/2024 :3
Make sure to read the DNI part, that part’s important
I will give you a gold star if you manage to get through this
You ready? Mkay.
🎀🎀🎀🎀🎀
- Main info
Hi! I’m perry, it’s short for Peregrine :3
I’m a minor
I support Palestine so already off the bat if you don’t like it, you can leave. I try to keep this a positive space but stuff like supporting Palestine are important no matter the situation. I previously said I’d make a mini post for links on how to support the cause but this is an agere account, and I felt like that’d be too uptight. Still, Free Palestine. No matter the blog. :>
I study psychology and some history for fun.
I really enjoy theories, analyzing things, and headcanons
I usually enjoy horror but in this blog, this is my safe spot where I can take a breather from that stuff cause it’s nice to take a break every once in a while :]
Please be patient with me :>
I’m still pretty clueless about the tagging system and will mess up so telling me about it helps loads
I’m trans, transmasc, and genderfluid, I go by he/him or they/them, and I’m also on the a-spec!^^
This blog was originally made for Agere, but because I’m unfamiliar with Agere accounts on tumblr especially it’s gonna take me a hot minute to really post anything, and I most likely won’t.
I do dream regression (idk if that’s the correct term, I’m still new to this). I try to actually regress but it’s hard, so I don’t have much of a small age. I’m still a minor, but my big age IS 10+
I’m interested in the indie film industry, and I enjoy art :3
🌙🌙🌙🌙🌙
- Extra info
My favorite color is pink! :]
I believe cringe culture is dead
I enjoy lemon demon and jack stauber and I make references of them a LOT.
I enjoy over analyzing everything so I’ll mostly reblog headcanons
This blog is completely sfw.
I like to ramble a lot, and tend to do so in tags
I enjoy mixed media of all kinds :>
I’m multifandom
I’m a multishipper, but I don’t usually ship in the fandoms I’m in due to creepy ships I come across so the ships I do enjoy are either very popular or never once heard of
I’m pretty inactive, and this is because I struggle with pretty bad social anxiety that tends to stop me from interacting with any sign of human life, but because I’m trying to cope, I’ll do my best
I’m a radical inclusionist so this is pretty much a safe space if you want it to be one
I’m an older brother
I’m also really weird
I might attempt to draw but I won’t draw often.
Cringe culture is pretty much dead and whoever is keeping cringe culture alive are clearly people who don’t belong on this blog or my main blog either
DMs are ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS closed, again, I’m a minor and I’m uncomfortable interacting with strangers especially on the internet, if I DM you it’s either on accident or because I know you irl
I don’t talk much while I’m in this partial headspace so I don’t talk much. There won’t be much tags, and a very bad tagging system, or lack there of, I should say.

I know there’s a lot but I can’t fully relax without knowing there’s some wall rigidly keeping me from being face to face with actual creeps and strangers I don’t know, so this is my version of a safe space and stability.
💥💥💥💥💥
The end.
I’ll update the main info or extra info if I need too, but this is mostly it for now.
Did you read it? Did you read all of it?
If so, here is a gold star.

Okay okay, but personally, I have a really hard time getting a proper grasp on Cross' character? I know he can be extremely goofy from snippets we've seen from his past, but the majority of the time, we've seen him dealing with some pretty heavy shit and not taking it well. I try to give him some impulsive and whimsical moments when I write him, but he usually comes out pretty serious anyway. There's just not that much canon stuff to go on when it comes to his more chill side.
On the contrary, I think I have a pretty good grasp on his character, at least as good of one as I can get with what I have.
Cross is impulsive as hell. Consistently, he makes decisions based on how he feels in the moment and never thinks anything he does through beforehand. (Examples: Attacking people who get in his way or whom he thinks is bad news. Trying to steal Overwrite without understanding how it works. Suddenly trusting Chara. Deciding that he’s better suited to look like a bad guy and adopting the title of X-Event. Basically throwing temper tantrums on a regular basis. Turning his back on Ink just because he found out that Ink can’t help him with his universe.)
He assumes that he understands more than he does. Kind of tying in with his impulsiveness, Cross constantly makes decisions based on his own assumptions rather than actual fact. And he assumes that those theories of his are truth until someone tells him otherwise–after which he tends to freak out and start the hating the person who told him otherwise.
Sometimes he just does things out of spite. He didn’t even think Frisk’s plan to overthrow XGaster was bad, but he likes screwing over people he doesn’t like. Sure, Frisk was fricked up too, but it points towards how immature Cross is.
Yes, he’s immature, and has a very childish attitude in general. This isn’t just because of the shitposts and interactions with Epic–no, this is actually part of his personality. He regularly acts like a little kid. Doing things out of spite. Throwing temper tantrums. Trying to be all evil but just making a fool of himself in the process. Holding grudges for no reason. Clinging to things rather than just letting them go. Assuming he knows everything. Hating to lose or be wrong. He’s just… kind of a self-absorbed dick.
Cross is the very definition of an adult who never stopped being a teenager. Except he’s violent and has no one to stop him from making stupid decisions, which he makes a lot of because he doesn’t understand how to function as a mature person, especially because he wasn’t raised properly and wasn’t taught these things, but that’s another story.
Plus, it’s really obvious that he has anxiety, and it’s easy to see why. He’s got a lot of pressure on him all the time. But that’s not the reason for his flaws–he’s always had them regardless. Even with his whole “I was never trained to be lazy” line, it means that he was taught to always be on guard all the time. That’s definitely a source of ingrained stress and anxiety on its own; that and a domineering ‘father’.
And of course, Cross does have some nerdiness in there somewhere, so then comes in the whimsy and the funny stuff. He’s melodramatic and just seems like the type to make a lot of noise and to make sure everyone knows how he feels at all times, so he’s kind of a drama king. But he’s also the type to just be an asshole for no reason.
Basically what I’m trying to say is that, interpret details as you will, but he is far from a calm person. XD
