Hundreds of people spot biggest fireball ever seen over UK and Ireland

Residents in Scotland and Northern England were stunned to witness a likely meteor gliding through the sky, describing the event as “unbelievable” and “stunning”. The UK Meteor Network confirmed that they have received more than 200 reports of “a fireball spotted” at 10pm on Wednesday, with most sightings coming from Scotland and Northern Ireland. The celestial phenomenon was captured on cameras, showing a brightly lit object flying at a downward angle followed by a huge tail. “Did I legit just see a shooting star in Motherwell or is that something crashing out the sky?” Rhiannon Hayes, a Twitter user, said in a video now going viral. What’s this?

I picked up an object without giving it a thought, and began to work with it. Imagining I was privy to what a toothbrush’s function was, I looked at it analytically and was instinctively drawn to the bristles. Their texture, their rigidity until they bend, their repetitive formation. These qualities led to some intuitive explorations in repetition, pattern, line, negative space and contrasting value, using the toothbrush itself and Indian ink.

My #unknownobjects for the final #beachphotochallenge I have posted these before but, if anyone can tell me what they are, I'd be most grateful :) especially what kind of bottle the big green piece is from. I think the first pic is some kind of egg case. The ceramic bits are from electrical things, but what? I think there's a flip-up bottle stopper too. Then, there's the big rusty pigs nose?! Fast radio bursts: do repeaters and non-repeaters originate in statistically similar ensembles. (arXiv:2011.01339v1 [astro-ph.HE])

Fast Radio Bursts (FRBs) are the short, strong radio pulses lasting several millisec-onds. They are subsequently identified, for the most part, as emanating from unknownobjects at cosmological distances. At present, over one hundred FRBs have been ver-ified, classified into two groups: repeating bursts (20 samples) and apparently non-repeating bursts (91 samples). Their origins, however, are still hotly debated. Here,we investigate the statistical classifications for the two groups of samples to see ifthe non-repeating and repeating FRBs have different origins by employing Anderson-Darling (A-D) test and Mann-Whitney-Wilcoxon (M-W-W) test. Firstly, by takingthe pulse width as a statistical variant, we found that the repeating samples do notfollow the Gaussian statistics (may belong to a chi-square distribution), although theoverall data and non-repeating group do follow the Gaussian. Meanwhile, to inves-tigate the statistical differences between the two groups, we turn to M-W-W testand notice that the two distributions have different origins. Secondly, we consider theFRB radio luminosity as a statistical variant, and find that both groups of samplescan be regarded as the Gaussian distributions under the A-D test, although they havedifferent origins according to M-W-W tests. Therefore, statistically, we can concludethat our classifications of both repeaters and non-repeaters are plausible, that the twoFRB classes have different origins, or each has experienced distinctive phases or beensubject to its own physical proces
