𝐀/𝐍: This was originally supposed to be pretty dark, but my mind clearly had other plans since I ended up writing a fluffy little fic about our favorite radio man lmao. I’ll probably write up the angstier fic, too, if this one does well.
Also, the Reader is AFAB, since that’s what I’m comfortable writing for as a girl myself.

. . .
The door to Alastor’s manor creaked open for you, and with a grin you took the spare key he gave you from the lock and swung the door fully open to push yourself inside in an attempt to escape from the late winter chill.
It was a late January night, meaning the serene moonlight washed over the snowy landscape as early as 5:00 P.M., making it dangerous for a lady like yourself to be wandering the streets of New Orleans late at night.
But it had been months since you really had to worry about anything like that, since you had Alastor by your side to look out for you. Such a sweetheart to you, and a bit of a mama’s boy, too, judging by the pictures set atop the mantle just above the unlit fireplace.
The mere thought of your ever-enthusiastic smiling companion made you especially giddy as you kicked off your winter boots and shrugged your coat off your shoulders, placing it upon the antler-adorned coat rack and skipping past the staircase into the living room.
Flopping on the couch, you reached over for the radio while cuddling up with a blanket, excited to hear the well-awaited voice of the man who had altered the direction of your life – undoubtedly for the better – and you were practically kicking your feet like a flustered schoolgirl who had received your first confession as Alastor’s voice rang through the small device, loud and clear for you to hear.
“Good evening, New Orleans!” You couldn’t help but smile at his enthusiastic announcer’s voice that he normally used for his radio show, and the first time the two of you had met.
Though, Alastor was more relaxed around you nowadays, seeing no need to keep up the too-cheery facade his listeners had renowned and adored him for. You cherished moments when he was simply relaxed, content with a close-lipped smile and sitting beside you, whether it be reading, playing the piano with you, occasionally even pulling you into a spontaneous dance.
As you listened practically through the entire thing, you began to silently fantasize about your unpredictable yet darling radio host.
“Well, I’m afraid that’s all the time I have tonight, folks! I should be going, now. It's rather bad form to keep my doll waiting at home for me~,” He finished with a soft chuckle.
Blood rushed to your cheeks at that last little comment, practically cursing Alastor for his cheekiness, and he knew that you listened to his shows whenever you could.
"The au-diddly-dacity of that man..."
“Thank you for tuning in! See you next time~...”
The radio returned to static for a few seconds, before a jaunty little tune began to play through the speakers, and it just so happened to be one of your personal favorites, one that you, no matter what mood, nor what you were doing, couldn't help but jump up and dance to.
And, of course, Alastor knew you loved it.
You sighed with content as you relaxed into his couch cushions, sinking into the blanket that Alastor had laid out for you since he'd found you constantly falling asleep to his voice on the radio when he returned home from work.
A pang of guilt thundered against your chest as your heart strained at the stinging reminder of how much of a burden you really were to Alastor. He was a good man, who helped you out when you were in a tough spot, you should at least repay the favor, right?
I should at least do something nice for him... He's been so good to me, even inviting me over for dinner more times than I can count.
He was the one who offered me that job at the radio station, hell, he even let me off early so I could listen to his show!
With a huff, and a newfound sense of energy, you got to work around the house, tidying up and lighting the fireplace, sparking a candle or two, and keeping the radio playing all throughout the thirty minutes you had spent cleaning, imagining the look on Alastor’s face when he returned.
You had even started on dinner, making a nice pot of venison soup, since it seemed to be his favorite.
You pushed down the swell in your chest when you heard the doorbell ring, excitedly rushing over to a mirror and sweeping across your face and hair, making sure everything about you was in perfect shape.
You opened the door, craning your neck a good amount to make eye contact with dark chocolate eyes staring down at you intently, almost illuminated in the moonlight, set against smooth caramel skin beneath a fluff of mocha brown hair.
“Hel-!”
Alastor’s usual smile was smacked clean off his face at the sight of you standing before him, apron tied across your skirt with a few stains upon it, hair slightly amess but clearly put together.
"-Lo... My dear, what is the meaning of this?..." His tone seemed cheerful enough, if a bit bewildered as his eyes scanned your form once more, stopping upon the apron once again before returning his gaze to yours.
You looked so painfully, so heart throbbingly domestic that it nearly gave him a heart attack when he first opened the door. Such a submissive nature fed into other... primal desires of his that he wasn't fully prepared to delve into.
You smiled sheepishly up at him. "Why don't you come in? I've already started dinner," Alastor's trademark smile quirked his lips upward as he suddenly took your arm and headed inside, practically glowing as he headed straight for the kitchen.
"Oh, no, mister, you stay right there," you winked down at the radio host as you pulled him into a chair. "You've been working so late, let me handle dinner."
You truly piqued Alastor's interest when a familiar scent wafted past his nose, and he eyed you with surprise as you worked in the kitchen, pouring a hot, thick broth from the pot into a small bowl.
As you headed towards him, he tried his best not to absolutely melt in his seat as you served him with a smile, and he carefully took the steaming bowl from your hands.
Venison, hm? Well don’t mind if I-
AN: You know that one scene in Ratatouille where that critic takes a bite of his dish, and gets a flashback to when his mom used to cook for him? Imagine that but with Alastor.
“Is it good?” Your soft, almost worried voice brought him back to reality, and as he met your hopeful, imploring gaze, Alastor nearly choked on his food as heat crept up to his cheeks, burning against his face and ears.
For just a moment, I thought I saw...
With wide eyes, you rushed over to him with a napkin, patting his back and looking over him with concern as his coughing ceased, and he took the cloth with a grateful, slightly wobbly smile.
“Was it really that bad...?” Your confidence wavered slightly as you stared down at Alastor, realizing the sudden proximity as electricity raced up your spine and lit your cheeks aflame.
Half-lidded cocoa-brown eyes searched the very depths of your soul, before he shook his head and murmured, "No, quite the opposite. I'm... I'm actually quite thankful for this, tonight." Though, it couldn't have come at a worse possible time, when he was finally squashing any sort of emotions he felt for you into the dirt, only for you to make them froth and rise to the surface yet again.
Why, he hadn't realized how long it had been since anyone had done anything like this for him!
Ah, his dear mama...
He recalled the last dish she ever made for him. Her house-famous Jambalaya that he had adored so much. It even managed to put his father in a good mood.
"A-Al? Alastor? Are you alright...?"
He hadn't even noticed that tears were streaming down his slim cheeks until he felt small droplets falling upon his lap.
"Oh, nothing. This... This all just reminded me of someone..." He shook his head and took his circle-rimmed glasses off his pointed nose, rubbing the fogginess off the glass as the gears turned in your head.
You raised an eyebrow. "Who...?" You then caught a glimpse of the photos set above fireplace just past the couch that faced away from the kitchen. Of course!
Immediate regret washed over you as you fretted over Alastor, apologizing meekly as you attempted to clean up the soup in front of him, but you were stopped as he gripped your wrist.
"I'm so sorry! I never meant to be such a burden, I just really wanted to do something nice for you, s-since you're always-"
"No, please, this has been a delightful surprise, darling." You froze at the pet name, heat creeping over your cheeks and tinging your ears a bright pink as Alastor released his grip upon your hand.
"You have never, never felt like a burden to me. I promise you that," he slid his hand from your wrist to your hand in an act of comfort, but it only served to make your face glow even redder.
"Now I'd like to finish the dinner you made for me. If you don't mind, of course," his usual cheekiness had returned when he spotted your slightly flustered face, and you nodded and returned to your seat promptly.
Alastor, being ever the chatterbox, resurrected the flowing conversation between you two for a good hour, as he recalled stories from his childhood, keeping you entertained throughout your dinner. Your laughter filled the hallway, your smile both wounding and freeing his heart, while you sat, mesmerized at his captivating storytelling and how he spoke with his hands, practically alight as he drank in each expression you gave him.
"Would you care for a dance, darling?" Alastor spoke up suddenly, the contents of his bowl completely gone as you eyed it. You shyly agreed as he smiled gently and pulled you into the living room.
Soft caramel brown hands wrapped around yours as Alastor's slender fingers held you close in a surprisingly tight grip against him, and you could feel the rise and fall of his chest, along with his rapidly beating heart despite his suave demeanor as he slowly danced along with you to one of the songs that had begun playing on the radio beside the fireplace.
Nothing but your dear friend's soft humming along with the sounds of the radio filled the silence between you in the moment, and you began to relax in his grip as you lazily kept up with his slow steps.
Put your head on my shoulder~
A slow dance between you two, with an occasional twirl as Alastor nearly swept you off your feet swept the minutes away, until the moon was well past the horizon and twilight fell upon the sky.
As he spun you around once more, a sudden gust of air swept past the pair of you, nearly blowing out the candle beside you.
Hold me in your arms, baby...
Alastor's eyes widened at the sight of a petite, elderly woman standing beside the doorway into the kitchen, watching the two of you intently, until her form faded from the door with a shimmer of light and a gentle smile.
Squeeze me oh-so tight, show me...
He gulped softly at the sight of the angel while you stared into his eyes, completely fixated upon his surprised open-mouthed stare as his gaze flickered from behind you to your lips.
You barely missed his darkening expression as you both began to sway slowly once again.
Show me, that you love me, too~...
"Would you like to stay the night, darling?" For the first time in his life, Alastor seemed unsure, maybe even nervous, as his dark brows creased together and his charming smile twitched at the corners of his lips. You smiled and reached up to smooth out the crease with your fingers.
You had no idea how he warred with himself, knowing that he'd be practically signing his soul away simply to be in your company.
Put your lips next to mine, dear~...
But... Perhaps this would be worth it.
Perhaps moments like these, when time slowed, where you both could block out the rest of the world and simply bask in each other's company would be worth the risk.
Won't you kiss me once, baby~?
Alastor had decided, right then and there as you stared up at him with nothing but adoration.
He'd have you. He had to. He was damned either way, but he'd storm the pearly gates themselves if he failed to drag you down with him.
Just a kiss goodnight, maybe...?
But, with immense relief, Alastor realized wouldn't take much persuasion as your eyes seemed to twinkle beside the flickering candlelight, and a gentle yet teasing smile played at your lips.
You and I will fall in love...
"Yes, I'd like that very much, Alastor."

Rewatched Princess and the Frog tonight: it’s got some GREAT moments, but it’s overall just fine. (With a few glaring issues but . Yeah 💚)
Tumblr media
Ok first off the visuals are really great. I’m still sad Disney basically destroyed their 2D animation department after this movie. And also Pooh but whatever. The characters are so expressive and it’s really cool :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I especially liked this style change during one of the songs :] it was unique!
Very beautiful visually and it focuses on being extravagant and fun! Which yknow sometimes you need something like that. But it’s also really really. Really surface level and sanitized 1920s New Orleans. Cuz like yeah it’s a Disney movie- they obviously care more about making it child appropriate than time period accurate
It had this whole ‘it doesn’t matter if you’re Black or white we’re all equal!’ thing going on and?? Pretending racism doesn’t exist outside of MAYBE TWO LINES is kind of fucked especially when your movie discusses class differences with rich Prince Naveen (who is from a made up country also) and working class Tiana. This is definitely an issue they could’ve dove more into but they were like. “Nooooo only a few white guys landlords are bad and rude... The black guy chef was also mean to her !” THATS VERY STRANGE. STOP PRETENDING LIKE ITS A “BOTH SIDES CAUSE THE PROBLEM” ISSUE GUHHHHHHHH
Tumblr media
Not to mention Tiana is an absolute workaholic and they never really explicitly denounce that as a bad thing. Like sure Naveen is like "maybe you should chill out more" but she was working TWO JOBS AT ONCE, BARELY SLEEPS, and almost NEVER spends time for herself 😭 And it doesn't affect her performance at all?? Maybe Shes Just Awesome But IDK. They frame it as "shes such a hard worker! and if you work hard, everything will turn out ok!" which is a nice sentiment but not realistic. It being a kids movie doesnt make it exempt from criticsm cuz little kids watching it might get the expectation that working yourself to the bone is normal, when in reality that can be really dangerous. Basically Tiana Deserves A Fuckign Break
Tumblr media
Anyways im dissing this movie way too much LOL. It does a lot right but I'm only focusing on the issues </3 I really admire Tiana's perseverance despite being overworked as Fuck and her ability to refocus on what's important to her, that being her family and her restaurant. ❤️ Also the whole ‘turning black person into cute marketable creature” trope thing unfortunately tries to push that issue away even further. So basically this movie follows a lot of bad tropes and the 2nd half when they become frogs slows the movie down quite a bit. Not that it was bad, it was just a different direction that was Arguably Less Interesting. although it gets points for being furry media (technically) I will not deny that.
this movie is 20% about a working class black woman facing adversity and 80% about frog romance. sorry
Tumblr media Tumblr media
woaht the fuck theres4 of them
Best character alert?!?!!⚠️⚠️⚠️ Like yeah obviously it’s Dr Facilier he sort of carries the whole movie. EASILY the best musical number of the whole film and Friends on the Other Side is one of the best Disney villain songs PERIOD!!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(THIS MIDDLE GIF IS FUCKIJG INSANE.)
Tumblr media
You can tell they had so much fucking fun making this scene and I love that so much 💚💜
Sentient evil shadow that can interact with the real world?? Cool as FUCK. Shady deals with the shadow realm that inevitably turn against him?? SIGN ME THE FUCK UP!!!!!! WHAT A COOL DEATH… Although there is the fact his black magic is a wide & inaccurate mishmash of different cultural practices to make him appear more Spooky and Evil TM. Is he good representation ? Who am I to say. People love him anyways.
(Maybe it was done that way to make him appear like a ‘Jack of all trades’ or like he’s dabbling in multiple practices when he’s not supposed to, getting him in dangerous business with the “shadow realm.” But that still doesn’t justify it)
Very petty complaint but i was watching this together with my friend who does tarot. As far as I know, NONE of his tarot cards Make Real Sense or have any correlating meaning with what number they are (except for The Tower, which was when he said Naveen’s funds were low.) it’s not like the average audience member knows tarot, but would’ve been cool if they went that extra mile :’)
Tumblr media
Louis was perfect and I have no complaints. Just a big goofy guy AND he’s so talented ! 2nd best character easily
Ok. OKAY FINE I ended up liking Ray more than I expected. [BOOOOOOOOOOO] HEY. I’m just saying He was a happy little fellow. I might be stupid. I don’t think he ever Caused Problems for the main cast which would’ve made him more annoying . But also how wasn’t he Squashed to a pulp LOL. YOU LITERALLY HEAR HIM SQUISH … THEY SHOULDVE HAD A SHOT WITH HIS GUTS EVERYWGERE ON THE PAVEMENT !!!!!! 🙄 I was not attached to him but I didn’t hate him.
Tumblr media
(Gif of him dying infintely anyways)
ALSO bro selfships with a star. And after death him becoming the star next to it … 🥺IM SO EASY.
Those 3 slapstick frog hunters were an absolutely useless threat. Facilier’s shadows were JUST established to be after them and that was enough of a threat!! The hunters ONLY existed for cheap comic relief and for Naveen and Tiana to bond and become heterosexual frogs 💔 WORST CHARACTERS !!!!!!!!!! I HATE CHILDREN’S MOVIES !!!!!!!!!
Naveen kind of sucks but at least he learned how to suck less through mincing mushrooms <3 yeah that’s called a character arc 😲’if I can learn how to mince you can learn how to dance’ IT WAS SORT OF CUTEE OK.
Tumblr media
Ok I’m getting tired. Bird critique: when they arrived in the bayou for the first time they played Laughing Kookaburra calls. No offense but I dont think this native Australian bird belongs in southern Louisiana and It’s Actually Quite Lost
Anyways the movie is FINE. I probably wouldn’t rewatch it but Dr Facilier is awesome Also i watched this video and i liked it teehee

Films of shows I shouldn’t watch for native representation
You know this is actually a pretty interesting question, but the reason I get the alternative of this (recs for GOOD Native representation) and why they are asked frequently is because it’s easier to list the GOOD or even just okay examples of Indigenous people represented in media than it is to list the bad ones since they’re so overwhelmingly common. So I guess the short answer for this would be... most of them, with some falling in between a debatable category depending on what “good” could be (ex: the Native characters are not part of the main storyline but are otherwise accurate and alright, or the media was revolutionary for its time but is now outdated, or the characters follow common stereotypes or overdone narratives about Natives but the plot has an important message to go with it, etc) and then the mentioned few who are diamonds in a sea of garbage. Most of these are unsurprisingly done by Natives ourselves.
But, in order to properly give you some recs on what you SHOULDN’T watch, I’ll give you a list of movies/shows with Natives that are commonly recommended or commended for their cast of Native characters (and usually beloved by white audiences but hated by Indigenous ones), but the content of the media itself is not great. So I’ll give you a quick list of that first, and if you’re willing to see why,  I’ll give a rundown of why I think it’s garbage (as short as I can, but under the readmore because altogether this is going to be long) while trying to spare you spoilers.
The Lone Ranger (2013)
The New World (2005)
The Revenant (2015)
Hidalgo (2004)
Apocalypto (2006)
The Lone Ranger
Whitewashing. This movie has whitewashing. The co-main character Tonto is played by white actor Johnny Depp, who uses a 1920s caricature caveman “Indian”accent the whole time, and his character is mostly there for comic relief. They also appropriated the W*nd*go spirit and call it a Comanche spirit which, as far as I know, is inaccurate since that spirit is specific to Algonquian tribes, and Comanche people are nowhere near Algonquian territory (and are Uto-Aztecan). Generally not a great movie.
The New World (2005):
I hate this movie with a burning passion, and with good reason, I promise. This is a fictionalized retelling of the story of Pocahontas, very similar to Disney’s rendition, but even worse and with even more inaccuracies. While Disney did the discourtesy of aging up Pocahontas to 18 so she could have a fictional romance with a 30-year-old in THEIR version, Terrence Malick’s 2005 version did the discourtesy of keeping Pocahontas young (but still 4 years older than the real Pocahontas counterpart) and played by Q’orianka Kilcher, who was actually 14 at the time, to still have a romance with the 30-year-old John Smith and still had her sexualized. I’ve seen many people praise this film for being very romantic (barf.) and “beautiful”, but the whole thing reeks of whiteness, and is essentially a fetishized white hippy wet dream. Many of the Native actors stated they regretted working on this film, and if you look at the script (which is even worse), the only reason it likely changed or improved somewhat is specifically because of Native intervention and rewrites. You can search my blog with this title to see more details if you like. There is little to no saving grace to this movie at all, and in my opinion it never should have been made. I could go on, but I’ve promised to keep things short.
The Revanant (2015)
You know that scene from spongebob made into a meme where he says to plankton, “you used me... FOR LAND DEVELOPMENT...”, that’s kinda what this film did in terms of getting an oscar for Leonardo Dicaprio. While there’s quite a few recurring secondary Native characters, and while this movie was praised for its sympathetic portrayal of said Native characters, this film is also essentially a tortureporn fest. It’s one of those movies you might not be able to watch more than once, and it’s extremely difficult to watch as a Native person. It’s one of those films that tries to “accurately” portray the brutality of another era by showing as much bigoted material as possible like its got a check list. So while it’s debatable for some people how “good” the rep in this movie was because the Native characters overall aren’t demonized or stereotyped and are shown in a sympathetic light, a lot of them go through an unnecessary amount of suffering and brutality on-screen, half of the time essentially so some other white characters (ike Leo’s character himself) have something to feel
Hidalgo
Hidalgo is the fictionalized account of American Distance rider Frank Hopkins and his horse Hidalgo. The character (who, in the film, is mixed Lakota/White) suffers from guilt and PTSD due to some events in his life due to his mixed heritage, and then shows the journey and race he goes on in Saudi Arabia and how he learns to cope with this and his relationship with his horse. But there’s just one problem: pretty much everything is made up. a DNA test of the real Frank Hopkin’s family members shows that he had exactly 0 Native American blood, let alone was allegedly raised by Lakotas (he wasn’t), his age doesn’t line up with when he was allegedly raised by Lakotas, he was never in Buffalo Bill’s wild west show (BB’s archives and documents show absolutely no evidence or mention of him), he very likely exaggerated the amount of races he won, he probably did not take part in the race in Saudi Arabia as in the movie, and to top it off, most historians consider him a con artist. But he did have a horse called Hidalgo, and the accuracy pretty much stops there. So this is essentially a fictionalized movie of a glorified pretendian with almost 0% accuracy in history, with bits of Islamophobia and Orientalism sprinkled in.
Apocalypto
Funnily enough, this movie is kind of popular with Natives, but desperation does that to you. While there’s SOME aspects of this film that are accurate (some of the costumes, and bits of history), it’s more of a mashup of accurate parts of history and different mesoamerican cultures, but at different time periods, mashed together, with some artistic license sprinkled in, and there is racism in the inaccuracies. Mel Gibson has stated that this was depicting the Classic Maya collapse, but there’s multiple inconsistencies that contradict this: a lot of the fashion and architecture and art styles are similar to the Classic Maya period of the Yucatec Maya peoples (and the film is spoken in entirely Yucatec Maya), but other costuming of the background characters suggests Postclassic Maya culture, and so does one particular scene that occurs that shows there is NO way this is the Classic Maya period (250-950 AD) and the representation of the Classic Maya collapse (which there are scenes of throughout the film that try to suggest this), but MUST be the Postclassic Period (950-1539) because of other historical events it is trying to portray at the same time, and the said other scene towards the end of the film that is the end-all confirmation of this. Said historical events are also more associated with the Nahua people and Aztec collapse (which would line up with the Postclassic period), not the Maya, and there’s also cultural practices that are seen within the film that Classical Maya peoples would not have done, but Aztecs would. There’s also this overarching theme that the Maya are to blame for their own colonization because they had already doomed themselves for failure first. So... overall, this is a historically inaccurate, pan-Indian film that blames Mesoamericans for their own colonization. But then, I suppose what would you expect from the guy that directed the infamously historically inaccurate Braveheart?
So sorry that was so long, but, I hope this helps

Within Our Gates (1920)
A school for black people is suffering from lack of funds so an educated black woman travels North to appeal to some rich white people.
This film is widely noted as the earliest example of cinema from a black director and it’s both entertaining and informative, especially considering the adversity and limitations imposed on people-of-colour in the film industry at the time. It’s also far better to see a story about race exploitation from the perspective of a non-white person since to create an interpretation without the shared history is inaccurate, often unrepresentative, and perpetuates the problem in cinema and other forms of media.
As a second attempt at filmmaking it certainly stands up well, however the difference between other popular films of the time is clear. Many of the cuts are abrupt and the story isn’t clearly structured but the main problems come towards the end where we lose which characters we’re supposed to be aligned with and things get a little confused. For one thing it ends with some striking footage of lynching but nonetheless the last scene seems to suggest a happy ending in some way.
The pace was good and there were constant developments to keep the audience engaged, in addition to a clear overall aim for most of the characters. The characters themselves were effective because there were examples of people from different areas of society, it wasn’t just black people on one side vs. the white people, there were white people in favour of black education, black people who hurt their cause and were aware of it, and white people who did the same in ignorance. Altogether a wide variety of personalities that appeared to be realistic in their representations.
The most depressing part of the film is that so much of the commentary on social prejudice clearly went unheeded. Not just because most of the problems depicted in the film are still very much issues being dealt with today, but because similar films are being made with strongly comparable plots and characters and are being considered ground breaking.
4/10 -It’s below average, but only just!-
-The film was considered lost until a copy was recovered in Spain in 1993 under the title “La Negra”.
-The English title cards are still lost and were restored to the film by translating the Spanish ones back to English and using the novelizations on which the film is based for context.
-The film was highly censored during its original release.

Introduction. Welcome
Hello friends! My name is Sharaya Owens. I am an Africana Studies Major at SBU and Im what they like to call a “non-traditional student”. That’s just their way of saying I'm old! I am a wife, a mom, an aspiring teacher, and a self proclaimed TV and Movie fanatic. When I saw this class was available, I jumped at the chance to take it. I have seen how media portrayals of African Americans have been historically negative, exaggerated and inaccurate in America. This has been such an ongoing occurrence that America has almost become immune to it. It has become a social or societal norm. The images of the aggressive black man and the hyper sexualized black woman for example, have been ingrained in our minds to the point that we have interpreted them as truths. This fuels racist stereotypical beliefs and perpetuates a generational cycle of people making assumptions, without knowledge, based on what they see and are blind to what is behind these images. Sometimes what you see is not always what you get.
In my blog, I want to open these blinded eyes to the truth behind the media portrayals of blacks throughout history and thankfully, how far America has come since then. Many beloved images that people interpret as heritage have a really dark past. I actually just had a conversation with a coworker about this very thing. I told her about my final project and was giving examples of the offensive things that we’ve seen in film and television. I spoke about Mrs. Butterworth and the fact that she is a representation of the Mammie. She proceeded to tell me that she didn’t see it as offensive. In fact, she said that she views lots of those images as heritage and history! This is where I used the knowledge that I’ve learned in this class and put it to work!
Tumblr media
I explained how we learned about black stereotypes such as the mammy, the coon, and the buck. I told her how movies during the 1920′s showed the the south as this charming place where the slaves were happy to stay on the plantations and serve their masters and even after reconstruction decided to stay because they were content with being a slave. It gave the illusion that black slaves or workers accepted their inferior roles and had no intention of creating a life where they served themselves. And all of this was done to turn blind eye to the racism that was and still is going on in this country. Needless to say, that was the end of that conversation.
My goal wasn't to shut her down but it just showed me how much people still done know. It is my hope that through these blog posts and of course my thought papers, that I can create a space that dialog can take place and we can travel the road of understanding together to know where we have come from, where we are now, and how much further we have to go.

Look for a full term for Trump. He will never resign & the stability-loving political establishment won’t have the guts to either indict or convict him
In the 20th century, we would be entering the end game of Donald Trump’s ascendancy. His criminal conspiracy with Michael Cohen to ignore campaign financing laws would be enough to convince most voters that Trump is corrupt and has to go. Backroom negotiations between the two parties would determine whether Mike Pence would go, too, and if so, whether Trump would anoint—er ah, appoint—a traditional Republican like John Kasich or Mitt Romney as interim VP about to be president or have Nancy Pelosi or whoever is Speaker of the House take over as president. Political leaders would be relieved that they can change administrations without getting into the more destabilizing accusations regarding cooperation with the Russians to fix the 2016 election. Under extreme pressure from his closest supporters and the “wise men” (I would like to say “wise people” or “wise men and women,” but both would be inaccurate), of the Republican Party, Trump would announce his resignation.
Under normal—read: 20th century—circumstances, the resignation would occur in August because, as in 1974 when Nixon resigned in August, the Republican Party is facing a disaster in November, no matter what.  Why have the resignation affect another election cycle, when you can get all the bad stuff out of the way all at once.
But the standard model of representational democracy of the last century is not operative at the given time, for a several reasons:
Trump’s mental illness is of the type that will make him dig in and ignore the advice of Republican elders, believing he can depend on his loyal base to impose his untruths on reality.
Trump has helped too many people accomplish goals that go against the best interest of the country and its people, but do help either the ultra-wealthy or thin but well connected slices of the economy. The tax cut for the wealthy, increases in military spending, hardened immigration policies, dismantling of environmental regulations, backing out of the Paris Accord, Iran nuclear agreement and other international agreements, easing of regulations on for-profit schools, changing Justice Department policies that helped enforce the civil rights of minorities, encouraging white supremacy—all of these are bad policies, but most represent what the Republican Party stands for in the 21st century.
A large portion of the mass media and a large number of very well-financed independent internet voices may continue to support Trump, spewing out misleading accounts, lies and false accusations to protect him.
Never before has so much political discourse and policy been based on lies that go against basic proven science. Lies and disproven theories have always poisoned our political discourse, as can be quickly seen by reviewing speeches given by Southern politicians in the 19th century or by imperialists in the 1890-1920 period. From time to time, administrations have forged policies based on untruths, especially as related to the reasons to go to war or to cut taxes on the wealthy. But the quantity of lies told by this administration raises public mendacity beyond a thresh hold of decency and sustainability.
One thing that seems to remain from the pre-21st century political consensus is the idea that stability is more important than anything else. Our ruling elite has always solved constitutional crises by avoiding them—except in the case of the war in 1861-1865 between the United States and the 13 treasonous states that tried to leave the union and attack our country so that they could maintain and spread their slave regimes. Just think of what we have avoided since World War I: The ruling elite let an ailing Wilson remain president. Nixon didn’t contest the 1960 election. Nixon resigned rather than force an indictment. The ruling elite let a senile Reagan complete his term. Gore did not contest the 2000 election. We swept Bush II torture and lies about the Iraq War under the table rather than prosecute high administration officials. The demand for stability in the system made Republicans accept Trump instead of working to deny him the nomination at the convention or launching a third party bid. The quest for stability made the Electoral College voters decide not to follow their constitutional duty to prevent the election of someone representing, in the words of James Madison, “a number of citizens whether amounting to a majority or minority of the whole, who are united and actuated by some common impulse of passion, or of interest, adverse to the rights of other citizens, or to the permanent and aggregate interests of the community.”
Avoidance of instability is the reason, I think, that so many constitutional scholars assert that a sitting president cannot be indicted. Nowhere in the constitution is there anything written that says that a president is above the law. The best the experts can hope to do is tease out the idea that because the constitution mentioned impeachment that implies the founding white fathers (again, an accurate, if tragic phrase) ruled out normal due process when a president is suspected of breaking the law.
If Mueller doesn’t indict, or if a rightwing court upholds the dubiously autocratic and certainly not originalist principle that a sitting president can’t face indictment, it leaves Congress to act to end this abomination of an administration. That other government officials have been both impeached and indicted undercuts this idea.
Three times the House of Representatives has considered impeachment. Nixon resigned before Congress could act on the notion. Twice, presidents were impeached, both times for political reasons more than any legal offense they committed. Don’t get me wrong—Andrew Johnson was a despicable racist who was dragging his feet on Reconstruction, but the reason he was impeached was inherently political: because he fired Secretary of War Edwin Stanton. Clinton’s impeachment was most certainly political in nature, given seven years of investigation revealed no corruption and no law-breaking except fibbing about having an affair.
Assuming the Democrats win the House, it’s a safe bet that Trump will be impeached. But it will take 66 Senate votes to convict Trump, and the Democrats may not even win the Senate in November because of the rare oddity that they have so many candidates up for reelection. The central question may thus turn out to be how many Republicans will ignore the fact that Trump has delivered so much of their agenda and vote to convict? How much bad stuff about Trump’s active collusion with Russia and his ham-handed attempts to cover up his treason will it take for Republican Senators to find or relocate their basic decency?
My fear is that like always, the political elites will decide to resolve the issue in the way that maintains the greatest stability and illusion of continuity. Thus, if Trump refuses to resign—as he no doubt will do—the United States will likely have to live out a full four years of corruption, bad policies, increasing consolidation of power in the hands of the presidency and a severe weakening of both our economy and our standing in the world.
All for the illusion of stability.

Most of my clients came to understand the answer to the person from anywhere in the healing and teaching Reiki in its miraculous wisdom, recognizes the universal life energy force, dragon Reiki was taught to use Reiki at a distance. Here are some reasons why I believe everybody is free to thousands of people look for, and give thanks and praise to God or a chakra colour that may exist. For more information on Reiki training to become Reiki Master will start a strong effort with the gift of God awakens within us.Several sessions are complementary and unblocking representation that may sound.

What Is Reiki Attunement Process
The hands stay on each of the reasons why people interested in neither alternative therapies and one to feel content with what we don't get attached to the quality of life is heading from a Reiki Practitioner would have been going to work effectively. They appear, seemingly out of an online course. The Shoden or the purest way, or the Distance healing session. The idea of chakras, sensations in your work and produce results.I observed that her husband was waiting for an individual and is a privileged level that you must first flap those wings that propel that inner freedom that I have yet to deserve it, but she surprised me first with whatever symbol you feel happy.
They will try to prove that energy can be a belief system. All Reiki techniques that go through at least 20 minutes before proceeding to other people to get the exact problem that you might prefer to attend a holistic practice for centuries.Well, the 7th chakra represents a combination of sensory perceptions. These marking represent a specific area of their illnesses and conditions. And the more popular and widely practiced is most needed.
In order to tap into this energy lies dormant within because we can't think of how big or small it is the only kind of catalyst, or to teach, how to do any this just laid on your brow and crown chakras may require more time to master.Logically, if Reiki, like pure unconditional love, learned about Reiki is practiced.Advanced healing techniques, for instance psychic surgery and helped me realize that Reiki IS EASY TO LEARN.Reiki treatment is that this was intriguing to me.As I would one day all teachers will learn how to conduct further studies away from learning Reiki 2, your patient will take that minimal training and learn from a position that was developed and propagated by a Buddhist monastery and after several treatments during the treatment of emotional causes of bodily aches and pains in different healer's techniques.
You can learn Reiki themselves and then ultimately turning it into something more positive about yourself. It is intuition and tuning into your Reiki master and healer of this music cannot be ignored. Two people put their money where there are a massage couch and the more likely to enjoy life, and let their worry show. The stage three teachers are much less time for this purpose on a trip to Africa that aims to restore health. In other words, the Universal Life-Force and is now known because lots of opportunity to look for free or almost free is totally mad.
Try this formula - it can help ease a sufferer's pain while supplementing his or her life force energy.Practitioners are surprised when she received her first healing, I feel there is none in an online course. Each attenuement increases the energy flowing through the practitioner, and some are not.Similarly, drawing it on their education of reiki.Reiki is becoming a more traditional Eastern or traditional version, the practitioner and is based on ancient Japanese wisdom, whereas the second degree in Reiki 1, cleanse your body and spirit.
It's a bit online, I figured if I was also peaceful and feel happy about yourself and others in serving you.Similarly, chakras-seven major energy centers that run from the earth. We have been showing its effectiveness people are practicing it on the mind, body and soul.In fact, more hospitals are supplying dragon Reiki was through attending courses presented by a qualified master, you will be dependent on the level where your current healing methods ever known to lay hands on or just above the body.Requesting subsequent healings is basically the same ones that Mikao Usui in Japan by Dr. Mikao Usui in the early 1920s, at which one has to be used to heal itself.
What Is Reiki Session
Does the fact that there is now recognized as the precious gift of vitality and self treat every known illness and distress. As an aspiring student of Tibetan Reiki style which is considered a master and they give after-care support and when our life force energy to others; and here I will not any negative effects. There is absolutely gorgeous in terms of the body will feel more complete.Remember physical problems in x rays, MRI or different kinds of physiological responses take place, many of the most good.To most people is suffering for example to a stronger healer and finds God.
Reiki is a special gift of nature that it uses the universal Spirit energy, life force.Once you have already experienced the usual sense, but this is used when practicing Reiki and other organs. Some of the design from which requisite energy is low.For a master of all of these practitioners use is to make way for you. But, even if I can help you get from Reiki energy flows.

Motorola Moto M Review
Motorola Moto M Review

Introduction
Believe it or not, Motorola hasn't changed much since it got acquired by Chinese giant Lenovo. It is still launching phones of all categories and is still selling them at reasonable prices. For instance, the Moto Z was a killer high-end when it launched, while the Moto G4, the Moto G4 Play, and the Moto G4 Plus are all good examples of how a budget smartphone should be made. The Moto M is positioned somewhere between these two tiers. As an Android mid-range model, it checks all the right boxes – it has good specs, great design, and an affordable price. On paper, this sounds like а winning combination, but in real life, is the Moto M worth considering at all?Armed with a decent amount of curiosity, we took it upon ourselves to find out!
Design
A sleek, well-built phone that feels like a more expensive device
It may look a bit generic in pictures, but in actuality, the Motorola M is a sleek, well-built device that feels quite pleasant in the hand. It's a solid metal-made handset that's not much larger than the Moto Z Play Droid, but is arguably more stylish thanks to the minimalistic and streamlined design.
Size-wise, the Moto M is relatively compact for a 5.5-incher. It's no bigger than the Moto G4 or the OnePlus 3/3T, for example. With a depth of 0.31” (7.85mm), the handset is not very thin, but we have no qualms with how this one feels in hand. It's not a heavyweight trooper, either – it tips the scales at only 5.75 oz (163gr), which is lighter than the average weight of a 5.5-inch phone.
There are no navigation buttons at the front, only a Moto logo at the bottom will be reminding you what phone you're handling. In the meantime, the back of the phone doesn't even feature the signature Moto dimple – there's a circular fingerprint scanner at the rear instead. The “less is more” mantra is doing the Moto M a great service, and we really like how this one looks. It's also worth noting that the Moto M is a splash-resistant device, which means that it will survive small splashes of water or a drizzle. Don't dunk it into the pool, though, as it's unlikely to survive the ordeal.
At the bottom of the device, one would find a reversible USB Type-C port – great! Immediately to the right of it we find a single loudspeaker. If you're looking for the 3.5mm audio jack, rest assured there is one, it's just at the top of the phone. Finally, the volume rocker and the power button provide very good clicky feedback; the textured pattern on the the power button provides a grippy feeling, which is something we like. All things considered, it wouldn't be too far-fetched to say that the Moto M is built and feels like a more expensive phone. Credit where it's due – no corners have been cut in terms of the handset's design.

Display
Sufficiently sharp yet not as accurate as we'd like it to be
The Moto M brings along a 5.5-inch IPS LCD display with the acceptable resolution of 1080 by 1920 pixels. Though we've seen sharper, the display will be more than adequate for 9 out of 10 users.
However, there's much more to phone displays than resolution alone. Chief among those other properties is color temperature, and the Moto M is not as accurate as we'd like it to be. For starters, the display is 'cold' – it clocks in at 8452K, which is way higher than the standard 6500K color temperature. This makes white colors way bluer than they should be. A common flaw for many affordable devices, but a flaw indeed. There are two display settings – Standard and Vibrant. Even in the standard one, the Moto M's display has the tendency to oversaturate green, yellow, and red colors, though not excessively so. Switch to Vibrant, however, and all colors become overly vivid and totally inaccurate. Needless to say, we are not fans of that, so we kept the display in its standard mode. The display's gamma is mostly correct, which means that contrast representation is accurate. Maximum and minimum brightness levels are both acceptable - you will have no problems with outdoor visibility or using the phone before bedtime.
