I think each member of Dethklok represents a different kind of shortcoming creative people need to overcome in order to reach their full potential— whether they call themselves artists or writers or musicians or whatever. Whether they do it professionally or as a hobby. Here's the way I see it:

Murderface represents self-deprecating and self destructive tendencies (i. e. not feeling good enough, wanting to quit, throwing tantrums, general low self-esteem)

Pickles is the drive for instant gratification whether it's via actual substance use or general hedonism ("I'd rather take a nap/smoke a joint and chill for a bit right now, I can totally get to this project later", etc)

Toki represents overly idealistic expectations and maybe also a different type of hedonism, one more focused on literal fun and games ("My art will be so good I'll be famous and everyone will love me, yay! ...Whaaat? I'm supposed to actually work on it? Nah, I'd rather play some videogames today")

Skwisgaar is perfectionism and a general ego, basically the other side of the coin he shares with Murderface ("I am the best and a literal fucking god at this"/Having meltdowns over the slightest mistake you make/"If I'm not as good as I expect myself to be then who even am I?")

Nathan is the tendency to get easily distracted while placing high expectations on one's own work. Plus the persistent guilt of past or potential failure.

BONUS: Magnus represents the resentment felt towards other, more skilled or more "successful" artists, whatever that might mean for each individual person; as well as resentment towards perceived external "threats" or obstacles to one's own success

Yes my point is that every artist has a tiny version of Dethklok living inside their head and whenever they're falling behind on their work it's because one of these guys is winning

You were mid-conversation as your family member called you. You excused yourself and picked up the call, talking to your family about an upcoming birthday.

Hongjoong listened attentively as you spoke in your mother tongue. You laughed at his expression, offending him. "Whaaat? I wanna know what you're saying."

Seonghwa

"Seonghwa yaaa- I'm hungry, I want some.... what is the word...," you sighed. Your Korean skills weren't the best yet and you sometimes struggled with some random words.

You kept repeating the word in your native language, making him giggle. "You sound so cuuutee... I should learn your language too."

Yunho

"Sweetie, did you have-"

Yunho walked into you in the bedroom, calling with your best friend who tried to help you pick out an outfit for your party the next day. You were gossipping about your sex life just as he walked in.

You grinned and kept talking anyway, knowing he doesn't speak your language. "HEY! You said the word sex. You said sex. You're talking about sex. With her. Hey. HEY! Come here you!"

Yeosang

"Babyyyy, only speak Korean when you're around me, I wanna know what you're saying~" he whined as you switched mid-sentence to your native language, figuring out the translation.

"Well you should learn my language then," you giggled as you kept speaking your own language. Yeosang whined like a kid, making you laugh uncontrollably.

San

"Sannie, Did you know...," you spoke before switching to your native language, telling him how much you love him.

"What does that mean? Are you saying you love me?" He said happily. You nodded as you kissed his cheek. San repeated your words, making you so proud to hear him try to speak your language.

Mingi

"Yah! Stop killing me you-" you cursed at him in your native language as he killed your character again in the videogame that you were playing together.

He laughed loudly as he pointed at you. "What are you calling me?" "Well learn my language, maybe you'll find out, dickhead."

Wooyoung

"Kyungmin said he really liked you the other day," Wooyoung said smiling as he played a game on his phone. "He did? He's such a cutie," you giggled, speaking the last word in your mother tongue.

"A what?" Wooyoung laughed. "It means cutie~" "Well, you are a cutie too!" He said before tickling you, making you scream to stop him.

Jongho

"Y/N, are you ready to go?" Jongho asked after putting his shoes on. You muttered something in your native language about not being able to find the right shoes.

"Babe, you know I don't understand what you're saying," he laughed. You repeated yourself again, before realizing you weren't speaking Korean. You laughed and facepalmed yourself. "Sorry, looking for the right shoes!"

red dead redemption 2

a genuinely incredible game, and i think it takes the spot as my new favorite game ever. it helped me through a really tough time earlier this year, and even after finishing it i find myself back in the game time and time again just to explore the scenery and ride around the mountains :]

death stranding

ok so i never actually got very far through this, i just look back fondly remembering nights of playing this at 1am so my parents wouldnt know i didnt eat lunch for 2 weeks to afford this game. also shoutout to the guy who is now my coworker for selling this to a 17yo me without asking for id

uncharted: the nathan drake collection

all 3 of these games are just a good time. shooting army mfs while nate says funny one-liners. what more could you want. so glad my friend persuaded me into playing this series. started 4 too, which btw, absolutely fucks <3

gta 5 (fivem)

it’s ridiculous, but i actually became good friends with a couple of my coworkers through grinding for drugs and money when i first started at my job. we all made so many trips to pillbox together after wrecking cars or tackling each other to the ground and then we dragged more friends into it all and i made memories i think i’ll keep for a very long time :)

the last of us

it’s so hard to put into words why i love this. joel and ellie, i would die for you. spoilers, but at the end i did not hesitate when i walked into that surgery room.

the last of us: part ii

this game is yet another reminder of why naughty dog is my favorite game studio. the gameplay and visuals make it feel like perfection and the combat makes me feel like a god damn maniac. i dont know any other aaa game that has prominent lgbt characters, and although it has flaws it really does mean a lot to me. i watched someone stream the entire game last year before i got a ps4 and even though i knew the ending i still cried so hard my nose bled for an hour lol

splatoon 2

this game is one of the best multiplayer shooters currently available and you cant tell me otherwise

forza horizon 5

this was my my most unexpected videogame love this year. i may not be a good racer like my friends, or be invested in much of the story, but i’ve enjoyed just spending my time speeding over hills in off road cars like a maniac while listening to the in game radio

kirby’s dream land 3

started playing this on my commute to work every day and it’s just delightful. i grew up with kirby’s dream land on gameboy so having this game to play in the mornings on switch has been lovely :]

animal crossing: new horizons

feels good to play this at last! i’m a long time fan of the animal crossing series so playing one on a current gen console instead of cracking out my 3ds feels great

metroid: dread

whaaat a fucking masterpiece of a game. this is my favorite thing on switch so far, the whole thing is delightful and very difficult, and as always samus feels so badass to play as. looks very visually impressive for the switch too. absolutely my favorite new release of 2021.

resident evil: village

i watched this game about 5 times over through streamers this year so i built up the balls to play it myself over christmas. maybe i overestimated myself because it’s still terrifying to me and im still stuck in the cellars of castle dimitrescu

pokemon: brilliant diamond

my first new pokemon game :) i think the most recent proper game i owned before this is for gba, so it’s been really interesting to play through. sure, it’s not known for being the most high-quality remaster ever, but i’ve been enjoying it.

there’s a bunch of stuff i didn’t add to this list, like super monkey ball bbhd and red dead 1 :] but i just added my favs that i discovered this year and the ones that hold the best memories!

Dude, if you want to talk to him - just talk to him. Yeah, I know, big help when you're shy! But it's really the only way to go about it.

Do you have any classes together? Ask him if you can borrow his notes, what's his favorite class or teacher. Ask him about what he's studying/planning to major in, you know, school stuff, maybe you could share lecture notes or - hey, do you want to study for an exam together?

If you don't have any classes together, still cool! You can just say hi, could you help me find the library/gym/whatever, what's the food situation around here, where do you buy your lunch, wanna grab a bite together sometime?

You’ve seen each other multiple times, so it’s weird to ask newbie questions? No trouble! Hey, aren’t you Kevin from my math class? Ah, Michael, hi, I’m Steve, I knew you looked familiar. I was actually just about to go to the [building he’s closest to], are you heading there? Yes - let’s walk together! No - alright, see you around! (you can always try later) OR - oh, I’m just waiting for a friend, she has one more class than I do - actually, I could use some coffee, do you know where I can get one? Yes - let’s get coffee. IDK - ah, shame, I love coffee, especially [your favorite]. No - whaaat, you don’t drink coffee - no way, what do you drink then?

If you smoke, it’s a goldmine of opportunities. You can ask for a lighter, a cigarette, you can go for a smoke together. But it stinks and it’s harmful to your health and the health of people around you, so don’t start if you don’t!!!!!!!

Most people actually love helping each other, so ask for a pen or a notebook you could borrow, or ask for directions, just - something small to start the conversation. And then you can be like, oh wow, you're so cool and helpful, thanks man, see you around! Give him some praise and make him feel special, flash him a smile, fist-bump him in the shoulder. Then, next time you see him, wave at him and say hi, and so on.

Of course, you should be honest, there is no point in coming up with elaborate schemes only to be caught in a lie. There is nothing shameful about wanting to meet and get to know new people! Just tell him you want to make friends and he seems like a cool guy, so it would be great to hang out sometime, catch a movie or something. Ask him about what he likes to do, what he's interested in - lbr, guys love to talk about themselves, so he'll probably jump at the chance. Your university must have some events/activities on campus, see if you can invite him there.

Prepare a script of sorts, think of the questions you can ask him during a lull in a  conversation. What kind of music he likes, does he do any sports, does he play videogames? BioWare games are great, you love RPGs, what’s his favorite genre? What’s his favorite band? Oh, never heard of them, what’s their best album to start from - oh hey, I love that song! You know, all that standard get-to-know-the-person stuff.

Just make sure he's not in a hurry to get to class when you approach him first, and then it's more or less smooth sailing from there. Just chat and enjoy yourself. It may develop into a true friendship or a romance, or it may not, but - you won't find out until you try. So try!

If he's a good person, he won't make an issue of any of your traits. And if he has an issue with your skin color or gender, then he's not a good person and he's not worth your time, so good riddance. Either way, it’s win-win.

Don't sit steaming in your doubts while your life passes by. If you like someone, talk to them! It doesn’t have to be a life-changing profound conversation, just saying hi to each other on a regular basis is already something.

Dream highlights:

I was staying on this awesome little island in a house where if I stuck my legs out the window and stretched my toes, I could reach the ocean from my bedroom. At one point I did this and grabbed a laptop so I could take a picture for you guys, and the neighbor’s two tiny adorable dogs (one of which was wearing ozzy osbourne glasses) scampered across the beach to investigate my feet and everything kinda got put on pause because when dogs want to climb all over you that’s just what happens

Lots of random scenes where I got to just kind of leisurely wander around looking at stingless jellyfish and collecting shells and poking around tide pools and stuff. And also I guess I tested a bunch of text based adventure games for Andrew Hussie?? They were really intense and interesting.

At one point The Iron Bull showed up and he was comparing the island to what it was like where he grew up, and then the thought formed in my head that Bull being on this lovely serene island was more like that Dead or Alive Xtreme videogame with the earworm-y themesong where all he’d do is wear booty swimtrunks and play volleyball and drink fruity drinks all day while Posing--but I couldn’t vocalize this thought because I was too busy laughing hysterically, so all he could do was grin all confused and go, “What? Whaaat? What’s so funny?” and then I woke up before I could explain.
