New collection of some recent creek finds!
Found a nice old coyote or dog tooth, a leg from an old porcelain doll, a really nice crinoid stem, a fossilized bivalve shell broken in half with innards that look like a weird pearl, old glass fuse, some really pretty bits of colorful pottery and glass, massive chunks of bonfire glass and melted aluminum, a nice little geode with some chunky little quartz crystals inside, and tons of other rad crinoid, brachiopod, bivalve, bryozoan, and coral fossils!
And there’s not just one secret surprise find this time—

Midden
There was no residential trash pickup in rural areas early in the 1900s. When Madeline and Earl lived here, from 1940-something to 1963, they had very little to throw away (packaging was not like it is now) and probably anything that could be burned was just tossed in the furnace. Glass, though, they had aplenty. Madeline stashed a truly bizarre number of glass jars (she really liked Heinz catsup, for some reason) in the basement. Glass she didn't want got hauled up in the woods and dumped. I could show you where - because it's all still there.

It doesn't look like a dump anymore, does it!

I don't know what it was about those octagonal catsup bottles. They must have eaten catsup by the cupful.
Sometimes the glass becomes a tiny greenhouse!

And sometimes there is just. A little guy.

To continue the story, recently I was walking the dogs there right after a rainstorm, when things were shinier than usual. I picked up a piece that looked like the bottom of a heavier bottle, only to find that it was an intact vintage canning jar lid, one of the reusable ones. I brought it home.

Many years ago i used to deal in bric a brac, vintage clothes and some antiques but I always wanted to keep more than I sold, a couple of old favourites I couldn't part with, art deco opalescent glass vases designed by Barbara L Pigott.

Moodboard: browsing vintage fruit ornaments on Etsy. Nothing quite so whimsical as a frivolous little bauble. I am obsessed with little objects and silly things like this because I'm so curious about who designed each one. Now that we live in an age of countless novelty ornaments these might seem less special, but I imagine the person who chose that firey translucent orange hue and made the mold for that little carrot ornament, hand applied the little white indentation lines. Who decided to put a face on that lemon??? I wish it was my job to make weird little things like this, that's all.

Here’s the latest plate of creek treasures. Quite a few blue and green beauties this time!
There’s lots of great vintage tumbled glass and pottery, some gorgeous fossils including the biggest and nicest blastoid I’ve ever found, neat bits of melted metal including a piece that looks like a weird stomach haha, and my favorite—my little bisque porcelain skull!
