Blame the Cat
I'm not late, I swear. Anyway here's the last of my Phic Phight fics, for the honorable @five-rivers
Prompt: For centuries, the cult has anticipated the glorious rise and return of Lord Phantom. That time is at hand. All they need to bring him fully into the mortal world is the perfect sacrifice: Danny Fenton.
Summary: A story in which Danny really needs to stop getting in trouble on purpose.
Ivan Petrovitch wouldn’t normally field calls from mayors of small American towns, even those as wealthy as Vlad Masters. After all, an individual like that is unlikely to have a legitimate interest in his own illegitimate business. Facilitating the sale of endangered fish is a rather niche profession. None the less, he did a cursory internet search of the man. Nothing caught his eye until he saw an image of the man.
It wasn’t Vlad himself that caught his eye, however. The photo depicted the Mayor, a man in a suit with long grey hair in a low ponytail, standing in front of a large building. Ivan wasn’t looking at the mayor, his eye was instead drawn to the boy whose shoulders Vlad had his arm around in a fatherly fashion. The boy looked uncomfortable, and familiar.
He had to check to be sure, but his soul was certain; This boy was the key.
You see, selling endangered fish was just Ivan’s profession. It was how he made a living, not his calling. It was his more esoteric interests that gained that honor. Ivan was a member of an international group of individuals dedicated to the study an veneration of a figure most thought mythical, if they knew he existed at all. And this boy looked almost exactly like him. A change in hair and eye color, and the boy would be identical.
In the past decades, this group had toyed with the idea of summoning this being, a god really, to the mortal plane. This would serve the purpose of bringing the being closer to his disciples so that they may worship him more closely, and make requests of him more directly. He was told to have incredible powers, and many sought to be rewarded for their faith.
With that goal in mind, many of the groups members began to develop various strategies to summon their god. The ritual and material needed in each plan varied wildly, but most agreed that one thing was essential. A sacrifice.
Ivan read the caption to the photo. ‘Mayor Vlad Masters (left) accompanied by his godson Daniel Fenton (right) celebrating the renovation of Amity Park’s historic City Hall building on Wednesday.’
“Daniel Fenton,” Ivan murmured. Yes, he’d have to send a message to the group. They would see if there were any members in this ‘Amity Park’ that could investigate further. In the meantime, perhaps he should give Mr. Master’s a call. Far greater things than money could come of working with him.
. . .
Okay, so Danny probably shouldn’t be letting this guy lead him away from the main crowd at Vlad’s party to. He also shouldn’t have accepted the drink of sparking juice the guy handed him. He was pretty sure that he was all but immune to most poisons at this point, but it was still bad practice.
And he definitely shouldn’t have played along with this guy’s attempt to get him out of the ballroom by acting woozy and disoriented. Sue him, he wanted to see where this was going.
“It looks like the poor boy must have gotten the sparkling wine rather than the juice, it’s a bit strong isn’t it,” he heard the man say as he led him Danny toward one of the doors near the kitchen. He pulled out a key and unlocked it before dragging Danny through.
If this Ivan dude was interested in him in that way, then Danny could easily kick they guys ass, get him arrested, and ruin Vlad’s party in the process. If he interested in Danny in some other way, then Danny would still take the option to get away from the fruitloop’s flirting with his mom.
On the other side of the was a short hallway with only two doors: an all gender restroom, and an elevator. Ivan tugged a staggering Danny toward the elevator.
‘Door number two it is,’ He thought to himself, almost sad about losing the opportunity to make Vlad look bad.
Once he got Danny in the elevator and leaning against one wall, Ivan pressed the button marked B. The doors closed, and the elevator went down.
. . .
“Danny?” Tucker said again. “Danny! Sam, where’s Danny.”
“I’m sorry, I have to go to the restroom,” he heard Sam say through the Fenton phones. She must be extricating herself from her parent’s friends. He waited a few minutes to give her time to get away, then Sam responded.”
“Last I saw he was talking to Vlad and Vlad’s shady business partner.”
“Is he still with Vlad?”
“Vlad’s hitting on Mrs. Fenton again. Alone though. Danny and the other guy are . . .” She paused, and he guessed she was looking around the ballroom. “Nowhere,” she finally said.
Tucker took a moment to activate the tracker function he’d added to the Fenton phones. Sam’s had her firmly in the North corner of the ballroom, while Danny’s had him outside it entirely.
“Not nowhere, actually. Tracker has him in what I think is a staff passage. Can you take a look.”
“And miss this wonderful party?” She said sarcastically. “Yeah, give me a couple minutes.”
She made her way across the ballroom at Tucker’s direction and found the staff exit he was talking about. The door was unlocked, so she just walked through.
“Is Danny in the bathroom?” she said, mostly to herself. There were nicer bathrooms in the main hallway, so unless he needed to transform there’d be no reason for him to go this out of the way.
“You can check, but I don’t think so. Danny’s tracker went offline. What else is over there?”
“An elevator,” she said, then realized what that meant. “So he’s underground?”
“That would explain the Fenton phones cutting out,” he said. Despite being made to withstand unholy amounts of radiation, a few feet of concrete could block the Fenton phones’ signal entirely.
Tucker was about to suggest that she follow him down, when Sam spoke.
“Where are the stairs?” she asked.
“Why not just follow him down?”
“Because he was probably taken down by that Ivan guy. Who knows what this elevator opens up to? I need a back way.”
“Point. There should be a staircase near the front entrance. That should lead to the parking garage in the basement.”
“This place has a parking garage?” Sam asked, and Tucker could hear the noise of the party resume as she walked through the ballroom.
“I know, right?”
. . .
He could hardly contain his excitement. Weeks of planning had let to this moment. First, convincing the other higher ups of his theory, then sucking up to that insipid mayor, and finally getting local members in place to perform the ritual. And now here Ivan was, sacrifice in tow, ready to usher the being he has so long venerated into the mortal world. And perhaps, gain his favor.
The elevator dinged and the doors opened. What was normally an inky expanse of darkness was lit by dozens of candles. They might normally have lit the underground parking garage with bright LEDs, but the designers of this particular ritual insisted on keeping things traditional.
“Here he is, the man of the hour!” a voice said excitedly. It was one of the locals. Apparently this town had the fasted growing group membership in North America. In the world really.
“I’m Nolan,” the local man said as he began to usher Ivan and the boy further into the garage.
“A pleasure.” Ivan said.
Nolan gestured toward a large circle drawn on the ground with a smaller circle inside of it. Intricate symbols were drawn between the two circles. Several other people meandered about, setting up candles, talking in hushed tones, or just gawking at Ivan and the boy.
“Just put him right here.” Nolan said, indicating the inner circle. Ivan set the boy, now fully unconscious, carefully on the concrete floor.
“Oh lord he is perfect,” Nolan said. Before Ivan could respond, he continued.
“When Phantom first came to our town I knew we had been blessed by our god to see his form in this world. But he always disappeared before we could speak with him.”
Ivan stood stoically, but scoffed inwardly. He’d heard about this heretic offshoot of the group claiming to see their god in the mortal world. They would have been barred from the international group if they weren’t the single largest source of new members.
“And to think, someone from outside the country would discover what we had overlooked this whole time. The perfect sacrifice for our god. A mortal, human, host.”
For a moment, Ivan thought he heard a muffled snort coming from the boy, but when he looked down at him the boy was a still as ever. He dismissed the thought, then walked over to one of the supporting pillars of the garage and leaned against it. Just a little while longer until his god arrived, and Ivan planned to become his most favored disciple.
. . .
Sam’s phone lit the way as she took the stairs in twos and threes going down to the basement. It was hard with the shoes her mother had made her wear for this party, but she couldn’t waste the breath to curse. It had been mere minutes since Danny’s tracker went offline, but she was almost down to the basement.
‘There,’ she thought, and stumbled to a stop in front of the door. Panting a little, she checked in one last time.
“Tucker, can you hear me?”
His response came laced with static, but was still understandable.
“Yeah, but not for long. You got what you need.”
Sam pulled a Fenton wrist-ray from the pocket of her dress.
“Always,” she said, and she opened the door.
She turned off her phone’s flashlight and lit her path by the light of the screen. It was harder to see, but less noticeable as she walked into the basement. It looks like Tucker was right. The floor, ceiling, and supporting pillars were all the same gray concrete you’d find in a parking garage. You could even see the lines marking out parking spots, faint as they were through the dust.
There were footprints in the dust, two pairs. Sam sucked in a breath then slowly followed the footsteps, keeping an ear out for anything suspicious. Soon she started to hear the faint noise of people moving around and talking, and see two figures silhouetted against a faint light.
She drew up close to the pair and was about to do something violent when she heard a voice gasp out.
“Danny!”
“Jazz?” Sam hissed out. What was she doing here?
. . .
It was all Danny could do not to bust out laughing. This group didn’t seem to really know what they wanted. They wanted to sacrifice him, to summon himself. Or to have him possess himself, it was hard to tell.
He kinda wanted to see what else they wanted, but he didn’t like the look of those symbols. Just because they didn’t seem to know what they were doing doesn’t mean they wouldn’t do something. He was just about to make himself invisible the moment everyone looked away and hang out to see everyone panic, when he heard a familiar voice. Two voices, actually.
‘Jazz? And Sam? What are they doing here?’ He opened his eyes just enough to see.
Apparently he wasn’t the only one that had heard them. Vlad’s creepy business partner shouted, “Who’s there,” and someone make a high pitched squeak. A flashlight shined at the noise and illuminated three figures.
He could see Sam, Jazz, and Jazz’s friend Spike. Spike had his hands clasped over his mouth, making it obvious where the squeak had come from.
‘Crap,’ Danny thought,’So much for ghosting out of here.’ Spike was looking right at him.
Everyone froze for a moment. Danny held his breath, ready to intervene if necessary, secret identity be damned.
Then Jazz looked at Danny, and seemed to come to a decision. She bolted back toward the stairs, dragging the other two with her. Danny felt a little betrayed for a moment. Was she going to leave him to be sacrificed! Then he realized; she was drawing their attention and giving him an opportunity to go ghost in private.
Everyone started chasing the three teens, so Danny took his chance. He went invisible and changed into phantom, leaving the magic summoning circle. He didn’t go after everyone else though. Instead he went to the elevator he came down in and broke a few important looking wires and cables. He didn’t want anyone to think of beating the three teens by taking the fast way up.
. . .
Sam, Danny, and Jazz met on the steps of the ballroom. Spike had gone home. Apparently he managed to snap a picture of Danny lying in the summoning circle with the old-school film camera he had on him and wanted to develop it tonight. Something about how it was perfect for his project.
Jazz had just finished lecturing Danny on his stupid decision to play along with the guy about to sacrifice him, and Sam had Tucker on speakerphone ready to talk about what just happened.
“So you and Jazz barricaded the door to the stairs,” Tucker said.
“Yep,” Sam replied.
“And Danny killed the elevator?”
“Yep,” Sam said again.
“So Vlad’s creepy business partner is trapped with his creepy cult in the creepy basement of City Hall.”
“You’re three for three.”
“Well that’s convenient,” Tucker says. Danny frowns.
“Why?” he says.
“Because those FBI guys are coming to investigate him.”
As if on cue, a black sedan pulls up to the curb in front of City Hall. Three men come out and start up the steps. The first two are unfamiliar, but Sam seems to recognize them.
“Its the FBI,” she whispers. “You can tell by the shoes.”
All three of them continue up the stairs, and the third one glares a Danny before following the others. The third guy is a GIW agent working under cover at the regional FBI office. They’ve had dealings.
Besides the last guy, none of them spare the three teens a glance as they disappear into City Hall.
“Ooookay,” Jazz says as the door shut behind the men.
“I almost feel sorry for him,” Tucker says
“Who, that Ivan guy? I don’t,” Danny says.
“Did we ever learn why Vlad was working with him?” Sam asked.
“Oh yeah, remember how this guy’s deal is that rare fish?’ Tucker said.
“Yeah.”
“And remember how you told Vlad to get a cat?”
“Ugh, yeah, and he named it after my mom.” Danny made a gagging noise in the back of his throat.
“Well I checked his google history and it was all searches about how to get your picky eater of a cat to eat, then searches of this rare fish . . .,” Tucker trailed of meaningfully.
“You’re serious?” Sam asked with raised eyebrows.
“So it’s all the cat’s fault?” Danny said.
Sam scoffed. “Not the cat’s fault Vlad’s crazy” Neither Danny nor Tucker could refute that.

What the heisters do on Boxing Day:
Clover: begins shopping for Christmas Day the following year in the online sales. She meticulously tracks her purchases, money spent AND 'saved' (i.e. money off) on a comprehensive and colour-coded spreadsheet.
John Wick: walks the dog. Plays fetch with the dog. Goes on a jog with the dog. Gives the dog a bath. Naps on the sofa with the dog.
Rust: he attends one of those biker runs where they collect gifts and distribute them to needy children throughout the capitol.
Hoxton: nurses his very sore throat after carolling and karaoke-ing various Christmas Classics the night before (and the night before that, and the night before before that-).
Duke: reads various Christmas-themed stories or poems aloud. In previous years he read A Christmas Carol (Charles Dickens).
Dallas: avoiding eye contact with/answering his phone to Vlad, because he always gets sent on those wacky Xmas heists for the Ukrainian and he has had it, nope, not this year, not this time - "Dallas speaking, who is i-" "MY FRIEND!!!"

Galileo tinfoil hat time:
In his story for the anniversary sale set (which for all the other suitors are supposed to reference how they met MC and such) she's showing some origami to some of the university students and gives him an origami moon and star when he comes along. Galileo mentions how he'd been given a similar one before a long time ago, but it was more crudely made...and she notices he's got a sorta soft face over this.
OK HEAR ME OUT what if we get the reverse of Vlad meeting MC as a child with Galileo? What if he met HER as a child, and little MC had given him that origami?? Maybe he saved her somehow, or maybe she inspired him in some way. And it might explain why MC doesn't recognize him per se but she's been so perpetually haunted by his eyes and voice. She has this massive sense of deja vu when she meets him that we're supposed to assume is because she'd dreamt of him the night before but is that really all???
If so he clearly doesn't know she's the same person, or I would assume not. I haven't seen any evidence of him acting as if he recognizes her at all. But it seems too significant to have her give him something he's been given before, in a manner that sounds almost childlike, in a story with the overarching theme of first meetings doesn't it?!

We've reached a point in our lives where nostalgic bait is at an all-time high. From the thousands of reboots; remakes; and sequels to beloved cult classics from the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s, it is shameful how many of these we have, all varying in terms of quality and almost always with the intent to pocket money off of us peons.
What can I say? We were desperate for anything because we hardly ever got anything back then.
Even the darling favorite of many a fandom back in the mid-2000s, Avatar: The Last Airbender, was hurting for merch back in the days. And Danny Phantom's was practically non-existent. It is astonishing this comic exists, but not at all surprising because now, Nickelodeon knows to cash in on the products that fans have carried a torch for decades later.
I'm sounding really cynical here, I know. And while Ol' Nicky is seeing dollar signs, it is worth noting A Glitch in Time was clearly made with the most utmost love and respect for the show. Gabriela Epstein gave so much of a damn crafting this near 200-page behemoth, covering almost 90% of the hanging plot points the show never got the time to answer and simultaneously wiping off the backwards series finale that left a bad taste in a lot of people's mouth.
Like altogether, this comic explored Danny's story and what his purpose is post-"PP", Vlad's redemption arc, Pariah King's artifacts (and why Vlad was collecting them), and Dark Danny's return, all while working around a plausible narrative that retooled "PP" using time manipulation and newfound lore. And it's amazing how seamless it flows.
This comic isn't just incredible, it's a miracle.
And in spite of all that, the author still had the balls to leave some of the dangling plot threads and character arcs unfinished for a potential sequel hook, as if they knew this comic would sell enough to justify one.
Well, as of this writing, this motherfucker is still the #1 top seller in Amazon's all-age for graphic novels. Fool on me to rely purely on that hell site's sale counts to accurately know how well it did, but I imagine that's pretty damn good. If you had told me years ago anything DP-related beyond lame ass Box Lunch shirts would officially come out of the woodwork, I would have laughed. That the possibility of a second comic book seem plausible would be chuckly-worthy, but now... damn, I think it genuinely could happen.
And I hope it does, because A Glitch in Time still finishes with a couple of snags left to untangle.
The first major incident is the controversial matter of a one Miss Danielle Phantom. Now that Vlad has been given a second chance to raise a child, and do it right this time, what does that mean for Danny's clone? How will she feel knowing Vlad has changed? Or that he has a son? Would he have been a better father by the time she flies back to Amity Park? What has this kid been up to in the few years since "PP?" How would Danielle feel when she reunites with a Vlad that looks to be genuinely trying? Distrustful on his true intention? Angry that this man had the gull to change? Jealous that Dark Danny had Vlad's unconditional love when his fatherly affection is all Danielle ever wanted?
Dani is never mentioned at any point in the comic, with any hints that she still exists the Danny clones lingering in Vlad's secret base. I understand why she wouldn't be relevant for this comic. Dark Danny, for one, is such a huge entity that an entire spotlight dedicated to him and him alone would be worthy of a full graphic novel. But Dani's existence, her dilemma as a lone wanderer with only a distant relationship with Danny, and the unresolved tension between her and Vlad means her story is worthy of a full comic, too.
Now that Vlad is on the path of redemption with promises to be a better person and a father, his relationship with Danielle is going to invite a lot of questions, conflicts, and hurt feelings before it presumably and hopefully treads into happier paths. And Danny is likely gonna be stuck playing the awkward monkey-in-the-middle family member in all this. But damn, the setup is there.
The other Big Huge Plot left is Valerie.
In her last major role prior to this comic, Valerie was confronted with a moral dilemma: will she take the life of a human if said human is a half-ghost? Danny, in desperation, had to confess to Valerie that Dani is a half-ghost, meaning Valerie would have the blood of an actual mortal on her hands should she kill her.
And mind, this was the best Danny could do. We've seen that ghosts in DP are their own species with their own (dead) lives and free will. I'm not sure if Valerie has killed any ghosts or if she's just thermos'ed them back into the Ghost Zone, but her unscrupulous and, by the end of the show, downright brutal nature, seem to imply if she hadn't already murdered any ghosts, then she's more than willing to should the issue arise.
And so we have Val in A Glitch in Time, still doing her ghost hunting thing (her father hasn't been seen since season two, is he okay with her doing this or is she hunting ghosts regardless of any concerns he might have), a job I'm sure she's positively thriving in now that Amity Park is gung-ho for some ghostbustin'.
Indeed, though she's not as prominent as the main trio and Vlad, Valerie gets enough time in the spotlight to meet Dark Danny. In a particularly brilliant callback, she gets a couple of one-on-one battles with Dark Danny, with both the tone and even color scheme echoing so much of what her alternate, older counterpart has countered with Dark Danny from that timeline.
And I'm sure Dark Danny is just thrilled at the deja vu.
The damning part is how Valerie reacts when she realizes Dark Danny is, well, Danny.
Tumblr media
Keep in mind, this is post-"Phantom Planet." This is post-Valerie has known Danny Phantom is Fenton. She says this after knowing the town's hero was a fellow student she once liked and dated, and whom she nearly gave up her ghost hunting career for.
Yeah.
This has implication.
Valerie's first reaction to meeting a future Dark Danny is to straight up tell him, "you're evil." Is that how she felt about Danny Fenton after "Phantom Planet?" Did she feel betrayed that the boy she fell for was secretly half-ghost? Did she feel manipulated into saving Dani? Given the exceptional story Gabriela Epstein has expertly crafted, this one piece of dialogue cannot, under any circumstances, be accidental.
Valerie saying this straight up to Danny fuckin' Fenton after everything that has transpired is one of the biggest bomb drops in A Glitch in Time.
Tumblr media
The end of the comic implies she remembers the old timeline, meaning she's still aware of Fenton as Phantom. The tragedy of her character is that Valerie has always been strictly one-minded in her goal. Her downright hatred for ghosts and the absolute destruction of Amity Park before Clockwork fixed everything means in her eyes, she has justifiable cause to kill Danny Fenton. The current Danny Fenton. After all, if he is capable of turning into Dark Danny, then why shouldn't she get rid of him before it's too late?
Valerie is also intricately connected to Dani through "D-Stabilized", meaning there could be a way to tie all of these into another Big Damn Comic Book down the line. And while I had problems with how Valerie's dialogue was written in that episode (sounding deviously supervillainy as oppose to her feeling like her actions are justified), having her as the central villain in the next book sounds about right.
I've always been opposed to the idea of Valerie being an outright baddie (as oppose to a just being a dangerous obstacle), but the potential dynamic and high stakes tension for her to be the biggest obstacle to Danny, Dani, and Vlad (since she also knows what the latter is, too) in her pursuit to kill all ghosts and protect her home has nuances and character exploration that I think Gabriela Epstein is more than capable of dissecting.
Whatever the outcome may be, should another DP graphic novel come to light, I, for once in so many, many, many years, look forward to it.

Ok so I read glitch in a time finally
Loved it. Can barely comphrend that it's real
I still don't like the clone plotline (just, jeeze,) but if it means Ellie can come back???? 👀 can she finally have a home pls. For the love of God she is not even a year old why is she on the streets
But yeah I'm very happy with Vlad's redemption and whatever the fuck Dan has going on. Love to see it.
I'm a little?? Nervous? About Vlad's secret is still out? I THINK? Because he's not mayor anymore. But the wording of only saying Masters makes me think they don't know he's Plasmius??? Personally I want him to still be rich. And I want him to tell Jack and Maddie his secret. Praying I'm correct on this 🙏
And then with Valarie- I'm happy there's consequences! I like that she's a main character again! Canon did her so dirty. I AM nervous she's going to blame Danny for Dan- the whole "I knew you were always evil" makes me think she might.
And that's interesting but also kinda hard to think about. Cause on one hand, it'd good to acknowledge it! Good. Confront Danny on his flaws.
But only on things he's actually done pls. I hate that her whole story hinges on a misunderstanding about cujo. Danny HAS flaws he's a dumbass teen. That's more then enough room for him to fuck up without it being "sorry I can't wrangle this dog :/ my bad"
But yeah with how Vlad was handled and how a lot of things are handled and just the sheer FACT Val is important again makes me hopeful.
I have no idea how the sales of the comic is going and if they'll get another comic or not but. I'm hopeful we'll get more. (Tho I am nervous and hesitant because how much of this money goes to Fartman. '_' I know he's not involved anymore but surely he still gets paid right?
I'm torn on that. Eugh. Hate that man.
Anyway I liked it, I'm still comphrending it, but it was a good story and thank GOD PP is retconned. I was already spoiled on that detail but I'm still so so happy about that. Get fucked PP
Also clock work was chefs-kiss. Love that dude. And new lore yahoo!

*hands you dan* i love your headcanons for this sad miserable man. Keep talking pls
aaaa tyyy!!! i find it wildly fascinating how the fandom portrays dan in such different and varying ways, specifically the many ways they translate dan's self into his obsession and all, but sometimes it just feels like there could be something more yknow? and this isn't throwing shade at anyone, i enjoy reading all kinds of interpretations, it's just that at times it seems like dan is viewed as a sort of means to an end kinda thing, as just one more drop to the whump bucket that is danny, and while yes, the whole situation would definitely have had a huge negative impact on danny (even tho the show never acknowledges it again >>) i feel like in some cases it's a bit, misshandled? maybe that's not the best word, so maybe more of a missed potential thing? miss interpreted even
one thing i did see in some posts was that some people expressed a bit of discontentment with the way dan is portrayed as solely a danny thing, and by that i mean that they thought that putting all the weight of dan's existence onto danny was bogus because vlad was in the mix, and like, i understand where they're coming from, i really do, but there's actually a lot going on in TUE that points to this being explicitly danny's ghost half actions.
before fusing, danny's ghost half deliberately took the surgery gloves, he smiled while he wore them, and he, out of his own volition, dug them into vlad's chest to take 'plasmius' out. furthermore, even before the procedure vlad had already been showing signs of remorse for what had happened:
Tumblr media
this is vlad's face after seeing danny somberly looking at a photo of his family and friends after the explosion, he'd been, seconds before this, smirking and acting smug about getting what he wanted, but i think this is the start of him finally realizing just what they both had lost for that to have happened, and in my personal opinion, he might've been wondering if it had been worth it. on the other hand:
Tumblr media
this is what danny's ghost self looked like before attacking vlad. some people have pointed out that vlad's story shouldn't be taken as truth given his manipulative nature, but honestly i think that he would have no particular reason to lie. he may have lost his ghost powers, but do you think he wouldn't have taken the opportunity to try and take down present danny since the chance was right there? in a way, future danny ruined him, it was a type of violation that people don't really want to talk about since it's vlad, but it's what happened. danny isn't a saint, he's far from it really, he does a lot of learning on how to be a better person through different instances of the series:
- Attack of the Killer Garage Sale- selling his parent's invention scraps and parts for money so he could buy clothes for a party (he gave the money back at the end of the ep but he still went against his father's instructions to not throw the parts out)
-Spitting Image- danny uses his powers against dash after getting bullied (he learns from his mistake but still repeats it later in the series)
-Fright Night- danny steals frightnight's sword with the intent of cheating the halloween competiton
-The Ultimate Enemy- you all know (him cheating the test by stealing the answers)
-The Fright Before Christmas- lack of empathy after destroying ghost writer's story just for it being christmas themed; his stubbornness also ruins christmas for his friends and family
-Eye for an Eye- literally swatting vlad
and so on. the point being, yes danny can be extremely selfless and takes on the responsibility of fighting ghosts since he opened the portal, but he's still human, and most importantly, he's still a kid, he's 14. that being said, it doesn't mean he can't be infuriatingly petty and stubborn to a fault, so while wanting to attribute a part of dan's personality to vlad, it should always be extremely important to remember that danny also has the capacity to do wrong.
i think i went a bit off topic there aqndjwf, anyways-
i think what i want to say with all of this is that dan's an entity of his own. he has neither vlad's nor danny's motivations, none of the feelings either had for the fenton's in their own way: (he had no issues mocking maddie and killing her, something that love obsessed vlad would never do, neither would danny who loves his mother although a bit distantly), he singles jazz out throughout TUE's events, and also has no qualms with making her die ( jazz being danny's most loved familial tie, the one person he trusts outside of tucker and sam), and he also doesn't view himself as danny unless he's taking a jab at someone's feelings.
-"i am your boy" he says to maddie when she asks him what he's done to danny, even though she isn't her son
-"what kind of parents are you anyway?" the world's leading ghost experts, and you can't figure out your own son was half ghost" he doesn't say "you couldn't figure out I was half ghost", he said they couldn't figure out their son was a halfa, which contradicts his previous "i am your boy" line, confirming that he only uses those terms when he wants to hurt
another point for the 'dan is separate from danny' deal is that he exists outside of time. he wasn't worried about danny defeating him in TUE's finale because he said that he was still there, therefore danny still turned into him, but he loses, so that couldn't possible have been true. by his own logic he should be gone, and by the show's logic (as seen by the other time travel instance during Masters of Time), undoing a timeline means it has no impact on its original. (stopping the cause [college portal incident] meant there were no repercussions [plasmius jack, married vlad/maddie]). by those guidelines, danny stopping the explosion should mean no dan at all, but he still exists, so he isn't tied to danny's fate specifically.
he is a possibility. it could mean that the burger joint explosion wasn't the only way he could be created, but the knowledge of that possible outcome should be a sufficient deterrent to thwart it, so it's back to square one. that's actually another complaint i've seen- that danny being afraid of turning into dan doesn't make sense since he made sure that that future couldn't happen, but i think they all miss the principle of it- that being that danny saw his potential to be his own worst self, and that he doesn't want that. but now that he knows he can, he'll always wonder if what he's doing is the right thing, or if it'll have a domino effect that leads him to becoming that, since the exam cheating was such an inconsequential action and all compared to the many other acts danny has pulled off.
tldr for this section is that dan is actually more like dani in that they're derivatives from danny, but still their own person. (i might make another post later about what i think dani's obsession would be [spoiler: i think it's life itself] but i suck at writing </3)
dani was created by vlad, but that doesn't define her, and neither should plasmius aspects define dan. or danny's for that matter. their similarities are mostly physical, and even those are vastly altered, and there isn't much personality wise. on top of havig the trauma of witnessing his family and friends die, living with a man he hated and growing distance with your other half, dan has 10 years on danny, and by the looks of it that decade was spent on his own, wreaking havoc. he's very much not sane. that mental unbalance doesn't mean that vlad is at the metaphorical wheel, it just highlights that the human mind just can't deal with the stress of the circumstances danny went through at age 14. his own death went unprocessed, and that's why i think dan redemption is very viable.
since we spoke of dan redemption, and this will be the last topic since this is getting extremely long (sorry asker 😔), i think jazz could help him. despite holding a large amount of animosity towards her in TUE, jazz could still be the best shot dan has at proper therapy. jazz would have to be convinced i'm sure (she'd have to remember TUE events for her to properly help, and i dont think she'd be too thrilled), but that's still a version of her brother. she'd help not as a sister, but as a therapist. (i actually have a mini fic in the works for that but who know how long that'll take so </3) the trick with therapy is that people need to want to be helped/ they need to accept needing help, and dan is very much,,, not willing. but therapy is nothing if not a work of patience and a space for learning, and if there's one thing to counteract the personification of grief, then it has to be acceptance. and time too :)
once again ty for the wonderful ask ajhdwj, sorry for rambling so much 😔

Part 10!
Like a week late because I meant to finish this before a cabin in the woods tried to final destination me, but I didn't. I have internet again so posting now.
Lots of variety in this one, but a lot of funnier ones. Everything from "A Snapping Sound" horror AU to vivisection to ridiculous reveals and Cujo being a good boy.
Identity reveal, Danny gets a tattoo
Danny gets careless and his parents are perceptive for once
This legendary piece of work is a horror AU with a side of mystery! Best read in a cemetery in the middle of the night and I will 100% be snagging myself a copy if they ever go back up for physical sale (or get published) Character interactions in this are fun and it made me cry.
Danny being creepy/ghostly. Technically incomplete, BUT each chapter acts as its own story so there are no cliffhangers.
Jazz and Elle interactions.
Protective Cujo doing giant puppy stuff.
Vlad gets Danny a car to flex on Danny's parents.
Parental Vlad with a side of vivisection
Drabble collection, many different types and topics.
Added because I like the idea of Danny having a prosthetic and pulling pranks with it.

Tbh I'm really looking forward to how hyv plans to dig itself out of the Shneznayan hole they dug themselves into. Like at this point they made all Sneznayan citizens deeply shady and/or the bad guys.
Like I know that character sales won't drop from Sneznayan characters because hot > evil, but hyv still always tries to somehow make the characters in the right.
So at thiis point I'm taking my enjoyment where I can, and I'm looking forward to the mental gymnastics they're gonna do.
I think you need to lower your expectations more. Not in regard to quality, specifically, but in terms of shits given.
My guess for how they’ll square everything the Fatui have done with getting them summonable and on passable terms with the Traveler is that they’ll simply never mention anything they did.
How did we deal with Ei’s puppet killing multiple people in the Vision Hunt and plunging the entire nation into a civil war where even more people died? Simple. We just never bring it up to her.
How did we deal with Scaramouche wiping out entire clans, leaving their descendants to suffer the repercussions even in the present day? How do we deal with Scaramouche selling delusions on Watatsumi, making him one of the people culpable in Teppei’s death, among other things? Simple. We just never bring it up to him.
We already have fun things like Tighnari giving no indication of knowing what Dottore did to Collei, while talking to Dottore directly. Does he seriously not know? When he’s so close to both Collei and Cyno? Or did the writers just not want to deal with that bit of backstory, so they swept it under the rug?
In general, this is my guess for the Snezhnaya situation. The writers will just refuse to address any conflicts that might inconvenience their story lore exposition.
(In regard to how they treat Snezhnaya and the Fatui, it’s actually been rather weird in tone. We have multiple quests where the rank and file Fatui was actually normal people and very sympathetic: Viktor in the Cathedral, the guys in the Chasm, Nadia and Vlad’s romance, etc. But we also get stuff like having the option to just murder the dude in Vimara Village... after we spare the fake shrine maiden in Inazuma... it’s extremely inconsistent.)
