Some don’t seem to understand why I do what I do. In this case, and I’ll quote my father “Watch idiots play video games, pretending to be something they’re not.”

Let me start with, my father is wrong. When we watch these “idiots” play video games, we are not watching them pretend. They are who they are behind that camera. There is no acting. That is who they are.

And why do I watch these “idiots”? Because they are my life.

When I was younger, I was convinced that I was alone. It was a dark time for me and I had no one for me. I felt like dying. At first, all I knew from YouTubers was a bunch of people playing video games. But as I dug deeper and discovered how every YouTuber’s channel was different and their content was different, I became more and more interested.

And soon, I didn’t even really watch the video… I was just happy for somebody’s voice. Being alone for so long, it felt like they were speaking to me… Like I was included in their content. I went through everybody’s channel that I could find. I watched for hours, smiling, laughing, and happy. I was happy again. I forgot what hating myself felt like.

These “idiots playing video games” are not idiots at all. They are life savers. They may not know it, but I am sure that they have not just saved my life, but countless others as well.

I want to take the time to thank every single YouTuber that saved my life.

Achievement Hunter/Rooster Teeth @roosterteeth: your raw jokes and amazing group of people made me realize I could have friends just like that if I searched hard enough, just like I’m sure you all did.

Markiplier @markiplier: Your videos, although very funny, also reached my heart when you felt emotion beyond words. The silence and your facial expressions made me feel the same things you felt.

Jacksepticeye @therealjacksepticeye: When you offered to be a voice in the background for me, and many others, I barely turned down any of your videos. You have become my voice in the background to make me happy.

LaurenzSide @laurenzside: Your approach to video games was different and you introduced Sims 4 series to me. I was hooked instantly and it was so nice to see a beautiful person feel emotions like the ones you have felt on camera.

WatchGirlsPlay @watchgirlsplay: Some may think you are sexist for just letting girls play on your channel but that’s what it’s about, right? People say girls can’t play video games, but they are incredibly wrong. You all stood up for gender equality and for that, I am eternally grateful.

CoryxKenshin @coryxkenshin: To see a YouTuber who never swears on camera no matter what is completely iconic. It was such a pleasure to share your amazing content with my family and my little cousins, who absolutely loved your videos.

The Kubz Scouts: This is mainly just to thank you for making me smile and laugh, even through my dark times. Your creative insults and hilarious phrases make me smile beyond words.

And for every YouTuber that is out there that I haven’t mentioned, I thank you, not just for myself, but for all of the lives you have changed. I hope to one day, meet every YouTuber I have mentioned in a convention.

What’s a pet peeve of yours? I swear to every motherfucking god that if you bring up something in my past that I specifically told you not to bring up or you KNOW is a sore spot for me, I will throw EVERYTHING humiliating back at you until you submit before me. Don’t fucking bring up my past unless you want me to bring up yours.

Good advice to give? No one takes my advice anyway, so I’m not sure if I should give any. One thing, though. People do change. I’ve changed significantly over the course of being on this website and I still have plenty of growing to do. People change. Holding a grudge for something they did over a year ago puts into question whether or not YOU can change.
