I finished majority of my assignments and I just got home from work so, amillow (+huntlow) prediction/ hc/ fic for labyrinth runners.

*somewhere during the ep*

“I don’t get it Willow, how can you trust him? After everything he’s done to you, me, Luz, Gus and your team?” Amity says in an accusatory tone.

“He stood up for us against Darius when he thought he was going to hurt us. He’s not as bad as you think Amity,” Willow says in a neutral tone of voice.

Amity pouted at her a bit. “Just because you guys are talking on penstagram doesn’t mean he deserves to be trusted. I tried to help him back in eclipse lake and not only did he attack me, he threatened Luz! I don’t want him to hurt you too.”

Willow is starting to feel a little frustrated. “And just because you had a bad encounter with him doesn’t mean he’s a bad person-“

“You’re not understanding Willow! (No pun intended) He can’t be trusted!”

“No you’re not the one who’s understanding Amity! You talk about Hunter leaving a bad impression like you haven’t broke your friendship with me because I was a late bloomer and picked on me for years! So don’t start acting like you didn’t betray me too!”

Amity face widened with shock from Willow’s outburst, but she also felt hurt. Willow was also taken aback from her sudden outburst and felt tears forming in her eyes.

“Amity, I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean-“

“No, you’re right. I-I thought that we were progressing after what happened a couple months ago, but….it looks like we still have a long way to go…..I just want us to be friends again, and it upsets me that you chose to quickly forgive Hunter over me and-I don’t know I just-,” Amity pauses, feeling the tears well up in her eyes.

“Amity, it isn’t like that at all. I do want to be your friend again it’s just…..I just need more time. I do acknowledge that you’re trying and I’m thankful that you’re doing better but I’m still hurt Amity. Hunter on the other hand, I wouldn’t necessarily say I completely forgive him too, it’s also a work in progress, just like us.” Willow paused for a moment and sighed.

“Look Amity, both you and Hunter were scared and manipulated, and that caused you guys to hurt others, including me. I gave you both a second chance because I know deep down, you aren’t bad people and I think you guys deserve it,” Willow says with a teary smile.

Amity sniffles a bit and quickly wipes her eyes,” I know sorry isn’t going to make for everything I’ve done to you and I’m a hypocrite…..it’s unfair of me to project onto Hunter since we’re basically in the same boat, but I don’t know…..I don’t think I can forgive him…..especially when he threatened Luz……”

”I know you can’t forgive Hunter for what he did and it will take time but in my opinion, he’s worth giving a second chance. And you are too." Willow smiles to herself and Amity notices.

A sudden noise interrupts them.

“Anyways, as much as I would like to continue, we have to go!” Willow says as she holds her hand out to Amity. Amity hesitates a bit but she grabs it and they’re both running down the darken halls of Hexside, hoping that they’ll find Luz and Hunter safe.

TL;DR at the bottom... Even before the decision to include the Collector, I have to wonder if the writers always intended the backstory of a great war between the Titans and a group of celestial beings that descended from above, who smote each other and left only King behind as the survivor. The Season 1 finale alludes to other Titan corpses, with the Boiling Isles being the only fully intact one discovered; So there’s already that implicit question of What killed the Titans?

Likewise, there’s the angelic imagery surrounding Belos, that we also see introduced in S1. And while this could just be a reference to actual Christianity in-universe, I do recall speculating there having been a war between the Titans and divine beings from above during that time in response to this... Not to mention!

The Elsewhere and Elsewhen storyboards have Philip seeking a Song of Stars instead of the Collector, and we know there originally would’ve been three figures that cornered the Owl Beast in Knock, Knock, Knockin’ on Hooty’s Door’s storyboards. Sounds like...

I’ve speculated on these three as a motif since S1, with their first appearance being in Young Blood, Old Souls, where we first learned of the other Titans and their butchered state. Obviously, we must keep in mind that the crew changed the story after writing Eda’s Requiem, in response to the show’s shortening (this was told to them the week after Agony of a Witch aired, production takes a while), so K3oHD and EE’s storyboards may not mean much in regards to the pre-shortening plans.

But storyboards could’ve been written concurrently; They may have always intended an Angels vs Demons war between the Titans and visitors from the stars, that resulted in a mutual extinction. And the Collector and their backstory wasn’t totally made up in response to the shortening, either; Dana said they were a character concept the writers always wanted to explore.

So it could be that the shortening convinced the writers to make the Collector the face/representative of that extinct species, rather than a more conventional Archivist. And/or the Collectors would’ve remained purely posthumous characters in the backstory, the way Caleb and Evelyn are. The Collector was suggested as a kid of this celestial species to flesh them out, only to be truncated into just the trio; But with the shortening, the crew chose to actualize them as the lens through which we learn of their people’s genocide against the Titans, since they had so much fun with their concept.

Even before the show was shortened and the story changed, the writers might’ve always intended for the Titans to have been wiped out in a war against some celestial beings from space. They entertained the idea of a kid of that species, just as King is for the Titans; And when the shortening was announced in Summer 2020, Dana went F it and decided to elevate this cosmic child from the backstory and into the main story for our protagonists to actually deal with. Instead of an adult trio being this species’ representatives, the writers settled for the Collector.

Even if we didn’t get the Collector, that trio may have taken their place anyway. The background of their species’ genocide against the Titans would’ve remained; Philip’s plan would’ve been to use a leftover spell from that war, the Song of Stars, to enact a genocide upon witches as it was used for Titans (he may have mistaken the Collectors for literal angels whose mission he was finishing; Not unlike how he gets people to project divinity onto the Titan).

And since S1, he was always intended to be aware of and inspired by these celestial beings, who may have come in the form of a trio; Hence the Petrification statue, with the Owl Beast scroll as another hint. The curse is also red magic, which I compared to Belos’, and since he learned from the Collector...!

TL;DR I don’t think the Collector’s inclusion in the story changed it that much, since they’re just an extension of lore that was always planned, possibly filling a role originally intended for others of their kind anyhow; And it sounds as if Dana always considered the Collector, and thus might’ve gone through with them even if TOH hadn’t been shortened. Not that it really matters, because I find the Collector a legitimately compelling character in their own right, who in addition to their contributions to the themes, story, and other characters’ arcs, has justified their inclusion.

as per my good friend @sepublic’s req, here are some quick notes from dana’s talk yesterday that i somehow managed to get into and wrote as it went on to remember everything, now that i’ve put my brain together and processed all the stuff dana said that y’all might find interesting :)) long post!

when i walked into the room she was just sitting on a chair eating cookies which i guess is irrelevant but it was a huge reality check because like… holy shit? dana terrace is a real human? and she’s eating cookies? i literally could not process her presence but that made it settle in a little more

first answer to a question was that after the shortening of toh she never quite got used to it and just had to suck it and learn to work with what she had. she says that she also feels uneasy by the current reality of the industry and wonders what’s in store for creatives, but hopes the landscape will change in the future

her first reaction upon learning about the shortening was to say “fuck you” and then lock herself away in her room to cry :,)

she heavily considered ending season 2 in an insane cliffhanger and then never actually finishing the show to spite disney, but was convinced by a couple of her friends (including matt braly!) to keep working on it

cancellation news came by the time eda’s requiem was being produced

she was asked about amphibia crossovers and she said that she likes to think anne and luz have crossed paths

a girl in an otter onesie thanked her for making the show. dana got emotional and cried, then got up to hug her

we were her first live event since the show aired!

she’s currently throwing ideas around and working on pitch for a new series (she’s not set on anything tho)

king was originally meant to be very tall

one of the projects she’d love to get to the most is a graphic novel

she’s also interested in writing for live action

hexside was not on her original plans (at least the version we know now) and the execs pushed her to add a school setting into the show

she found making season 1 a lot more challenging due to execs’ restraints

she would’ve liked to dive further into bump and eda’s relationship

the inspiration for belos comes from cult leaders (obviously) and matthew hopkins, as well as many of her own conservative family members, particularly those with homophobic ideals

she doesn’t like writing belos at all

when i told her my name she went “oooo” which made my soul melt from within

i asked if she was able to disclose any unused or potential plot threads she would’ve added if not for the short s3! she said that wasn’t something she could say anything about so she let me ask another question (we were talking for real and she saw my person there in the room can you fucking believe that. she passed me the mic with her hand. insane. i touched dana terrace mic)

so i asked if she was met with any challenges when pitching characters who were part of such a diverse cast, not only in regards to queerness, but also for not quite fitting into a box and just being overall very… different (neurodivergent for the homies, lol) and if the execs had any trouble understanding them

unfortunately i think because i used the word “cast” she misunderstood my question and thought i was talking about the voice acting cast of the show, and said that disney didn’t have any issues hiring diverse people and she always wanted to make sure a character’s diverse traits matched the actor, mentioning avi roque and raine as an example

when she first heard sarah-nicole robles’ audition for luz she didn’t like it because she used a voice that was too high-pitched. thank fuck people in the studio suggested she give her another chance with a more neutral voice, and that’s show she landed on her to voice luz

actually, she said voice casting was the easiest part of her job

disney is not interested in producing any more owl house content

a girl asked about huntlow and she said that was something she couldn’t answer specifically because she didn’t want to give away any spoilers (?)

even though she doesn’t regret what she wrote, she would’ve liked to see how the story would’ve progressed if luz hadn’t been admitted into hexside. she thinks not much would’ve changed; she would still be friends with gus & willow, fall in love with amity, and, eventually, slowly prove to bump how capable she is

she really, REALLY wishes she had gotten to do another episode with young raine and eda. she LOVES those two, and mentioned how much she dreams about doing a series of them as teens

she went through a period of really neglecting her health and sleeping only about two hours a night due to the stress of working on the show and her busy schedule, which really drained her, and advised everyone who wanted to become a showrunner to learn to take care of themselves even in stressful times

i told her how much the show meant to so many people and that every sleepless night had been more than worth it, that everyone was grateful for everything she’d done and keeps on doing, that her efforts had paid the fuck off. also that i hoped she was doing better lately and taking care

she wants to take a good fucking break once the show is over

i also thanked her for making lilith aroace, as no one in the room had mentioned it, and said she was glad people were able to resonate with that

she pitched another show alongside the owl house, and will show the pitch later

they took some pictures with her and the people in the room before wrapping up

respectfully, she’s so fucking fine

i don’t know what else to say man, she just really manages to light up a room. her presence is something so special and those couple hours of just chatting with her alongside other people became easily one of the best moments of my whole life. she really is incredibly passionate about what she does and so eager to help aspiring creators, which is why we were all ultimately there for. i don’t think the past two years of my life would’ve been the same if it hadn’t been for her work impacting me the way it has. i feel like the luckiest person on earth :,)

Ok so I just finished rewatching eclipse lake and I just realized something

When I first watched the episode, I wasn’t too sure what to make of this. When Belos said that the Titan had big plans for hunter, I assumed that meant that he was planning to sacrifice hunter in the name of the Titan, and therefore he had to keep him intact for now. Then hollow minds happened and it became clear that Belos didn’t really care what happened to hunter. So maybe hunter is right that Belos was punishing him for what happened with the parlismen.

Then Thanks to Them aired.

We get more context for what it was like in the emperor’s coven. Hunter wasn’t allowed the other scouts; the only time he gets to interact with anyone other than Belos is during his missions.

In the time between Hunting Palismen and Eclipse Lake, I think it’s reasonable that at least two weeks have passed. In Eda's Requiem, there had to have been at least a week where Luz and King were training for the race. In Knock Knock Knockin' on Hooty's Door, it had to have been a week at least since King sent out the message to the Titan Trappers at the end of Eda's Requiem (I'm estimating a week because of the events in Labyrinth Runners, where Luz had been out of school for a week while she was travelling with King to visit the Titan Hunters. Kind of a stretch, but I'm imagining that on boat, it takes a week to reach the Titan Trappers from the Owl House). That's potentially two missions Hunter had missed--two weekends where he had to remain in the castle, by Belos' side. And there's no doubt there would have been more time Hunter would have been forbidden from missions, had he not snuck out to beat Kikimora to the Titan blood.

Belos didn't just keep Hunter from leading missions because he was frustrated in his abilities (or even that the Titan had "big plans" for him)--Belos kept him in the castle because he needed to keep Hunter under his control. It's another abuse tactic he used to alienate Hunter from the real world. By blocking Hunter from missions, Hunter has seemingly no choice but get closer to Belos.

(It's sad to think that Hunter is the predecessor to the grimwalker that Darius was close with. I wonder if Hunter was isolated and monitored as closely as he was because Belos was trying to repeat the same mistakes he had made with the previous iteration of his clone brother.)

I just think it's super fucking cool how everything in this show paint Philip in a worse and worse light. I hope he has a very die <3

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Doctor Who but specifically The Paternoster Gange sub-fandom, Oz books, Steven Universe, The Owl House, The Dark Crystal extended universe. In high school I was really into Hellboy II.

4. What are your top 5 fics by Kudos?

1. In the Night We Trust ~ It was a week out from Eda's Requiem and I'm from SU fandom so I was shocked that there was yet to be smut about the two pining grown ass adults and apparently other fans felt this way too.

2. I Thought Maybe We Would Kiss Tonight ~ This one is also horny and about the same characters so the Kudos tracks.

3. Words - My Vastra/Jenny soulmate au. Good. I'm proud of this one.

4. Blankets ~ This one??? The first time I tried to write using my senses.

5. Courting Miss Flint ~ THIS ONE??? I had a crush on a friend in college and didn't know how to act on it. This story about violently anxious women is never going to be finished.

Sometimes, if there's enough to reply to. "Nice work!" I'll forget about probably even though I appreciate it, however "I like how you blah blah blah" will get something from me because I love talking process.

Uuuuhhhh. Of the ones I like, We Speak Our Vows and Sorry Whispers which is the Tavronica wedding fic.

Blackberry Stone will be I just need to finish it I swear I will finish it

8. Do you get hate on fics?

If I have I am not aware of it. At the time of my life when it would have hurt me the most I was oblivious to it and now it's just like "whatever, I'm not in charge of other people's feelings". On a side note this morning I realized I react to the word "cringe" in much the same vein as those tiktoks about Americans unable to take British gangsters with any seriousness.

9. Do you write smut? If so which kind?

Yes but I don't post as much as I'd like. I don't like to post smut for the sake of it even if I love when others do. I need it to be in character and have something to say about the characters.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest crossover you've ever written?

In general I despise reading crossovers. I will almost always skip unless I really like the author or I'm desperate for more of a character or rare pair.

By most insane do you mean meticulous like my Gentleman Jack/Doctor Who crossover "Never Meet Your Heroes" in which BBC's singular blue waistcoat for leading Victorian lesbians gets referenced?

Or least likely to crossover as in Wonder Woman 2017 and Pat Gang fic in which Etta gets some sword advice from some local spinsters on the eve of The Great War. It's called "Protect it With Your Life".

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I'm aware of, but I wouldn't be surprised if my work has been farmed to sit in the belly of some great AI beast somewhere.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Not that I'm aware of. If it has I can't think of the example at the moment.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

No but I feel if I did I would just tweak the co-author's grammar and characterization and do nothing else. I take so long to write my own fic, I couldn't be accountable to handle another's work in a timely fashion.

14. What's your all time favorite ship?

AU Dorzma. The rest are tardigrades being subjected to various violent science experiments.

15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Vastra/Jenny laundromat AU. I'm better at Victorian commentary than contemporary commentary.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Sensory writing. Keeping things in character.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Starting with a plot instead of a feeling

I don't do this really but I'm a fan of using the << >>

Coin toss for the original Oz books or Syfy's Tin Man (2007) when I was 13. Both were Scarecrow/Patchwork Girl.

I Keep My Hands, 'Til You Come Into the Water ~ Missing Tavra and Onica and Tae scenes from J.M. Lee's The Dark Crystal Flames of Resistance which is so hyper specific but this is the one I like the most. It came out as I envisioned and wanted it with hardly any typos.

Rewatching "Eda's Requiem" after "Oh, Titan Where Art Though" and picking on details of Raine and Eda vs Darius and Eber, I realized something.

When Darius was more upset about his cloak, he was actually more upset about his cloak, that wasn't acting. And Eber was like "Dude, don't blow our cover yet, we need to make this look real! You should be upset that they are a traitor, not that they stained your fashion statement!"

I can only imagine Darius and Raine later when the truth comes out.

Raine: So, all of that...was acting?

Darius: Oh, no, you're still going to regret what you did to my cloak!

Raine: For your information, you ruined Eda's favourite pair of boots!

Darius: First of all, I said you will regret what you did to my cloak, not her. And second, I was doing her a favour, those boots were...ugh...

by far my most popular fic, I wrote this IMMEDIATELY after Eda’s Requiem dropped so it is no longer canon compliant but it was for one second before Eclipse Lake came out. Canon divergent, Hunter comes across a detained Raine and is curious why anyone in their right mind would ever risk the emperor’s wrath.

I didn’t get the parental Raine that I wanted from canon but a bastard can dream.

Cut For It (The Owl House, Hunter centric, 829 words, rated T)

Short and sweet exploration of what Hunter was up to when (for lack of better phrasing) Belos put him in the ground. I understand why this isn’t as widely read since it’s a shorter fic and it is just a character study and me projecting but I like some of the lines a lot :)

Eddie the Phantom (Stranger Things, steddie, 11.8 k and that number is going to go up in the next two hours if someone can answer my damn question about eddie’s guitar girl HELP so far, rated t)

It’s a danny phantom au baaaby. The steddie isn’t major but I am excited for it to come into play, though I’m also sprinkling in my ace Eddie headcanon. I may be King of a barren field but it’s MY eddie lives au and I can do what I want.

When Eddie dies, something in the Upside Down seeps into him. He has vague memories of everything going dark and then a sort of… electricity flowing through him. And suddenly he’s waking up next to a crack in the earth. But something is different.

(Something weird happens to you when you die in the Upside Down. Your molecules get all rearranged, so to speak.)

Since this is a newer one I understand it not having as much attention but please I need other people to care about this au with me I have so much in my head.

Wow.

Tons of cute sandwiched in pain but also hope.

I went back and checked, and Raine whistled softly over their tea before drinking it back in Follies, too. Which means... either it took a while to work properly, or they were putting on an act with Eda in the alley? To try not to hurt her by getting her involved again? You beautiful dingus she is already involved. Eda better pop them one when that comes out. (I meant smack them but she should also kiss them.) God, I’m so proud of them, though. They’re fighting, they’re fighting. It’s incredibly encouraging-- and it looks like Darius might be working with them as well, now? He seemed pretty on board with tormenting them back in Requiem, but maybe he’s come around since then?

...or maybe that’s why Raine was able to escape from the goo back then, though that leads to the question of why Darius acted as pissed off as he did when there was no audience... except Eberwolf? Would he have been putting on an act for Eber? Was he seriously just pissed off at his co-conspirator for soiling his cloak? No, that makes no sense, Raine was genuinely trying to kill him and Eberwolf. They weren’t working together then. But they are now?

All these coven heads are playing 4D chess and Eda needs to pop them all one.

(and then kiss Raine.)

Okay so most of this episode was just adorable as hell, Eda and Raine as kids immediately hitting it off, being each other’s anchors through a bullshit school activity, being both a little on the outside in different ways. Eda saying Lily was her only friend... oof ow fuck ow. And she’s already losing her to the EC, but she found Raine, so at least she’ll have them for... the last bit of her time in school.

I was trying to hash out a timeline for my fic, actually (which will now require some significant rewrites but I’m excited), and I think Eda’s in her sophomore year here-- well, third from last year, as it looks like Hexside isn’t really separated in an elementary/middle/high kind of way. Lilith is two years older and she’s still in school, but also we know that she was still at home for at least some time after her coven acceptance because she was there when Eda attacked her father. We also know that Hexside doesn’t seem to have a summer vacation-- or if it does, it’s at a different time of year, since Luz’s ‘new semester’ started up while she was already in the B.I. for camp. So maybe this is near the beginning of Eda’s sophomore/Lily’s senior year, Eda gets cursed at the coven tryouts in seven months, Lily is accepted into the coven like a college acceptance and has to finish out her senior year first so she has a couple more months? During that period, Eda’s attacks continue to get worse, she puts out Dell’s eye, and she runs away from home for good, ditching school. (Maybe there was a cushion between the attack and her running away if Dell was in the hospital for a while, but she says she hasn’t seen him since it happened.) Obviously she stayed in contact with Raine, since they were together as young adults, but that still means they had... maybe a year at school together. Ow.

Seeing young versions of adult characters is always fun-- it’s been pointed out to me that the Hexside oracle kid whose design I was admiring might well be Perry, Gus’s dad, and I can kinda see it, since oracle makes sense for television/news and entertainment. I have a lot of Thoughts about young Darius because of course I do (look... listen... muck monster good) and am absolutely wrapping several of them up into this fic I’m working on--

man. Lilith said she was going off to an EC study group. Study group. That’s the kind of place you make friends.

The only things that bugged me this episode were Raine’s head being too dang big at several points and Terra pulling the exact same “I’m impressed you disobeyed me” thing that Darius did two episodes ago. I want to believe that means something, like it’s a quality Belos looks for in his minions somehow (though it doesn’t seem his style) but there’s a part of me worried it’s just uncharacteristically non-fabulous writing. This show is so good, you guys, it’s wild something like that sticks out so much. 

I am 100% gonna watch this one again soon for all the delightful Eda and Raine cheese.
