#we're expected to ignore the double standard
Note
I think some of the accuracy critiques of 2019 LW are totally legitimate (the hair, my god), but Jo wearing men’s clothes has never flown for me as something “wrong” with the movie. She generally does so around her family and apart from what the actors said (actors are....actors) it would make sense that she had some access to men’s clothing through theater costumes and Laurie and would want to wear them. I think it’s a perfectly legitimate interpretation of how her character would dress and I’ve never understood critiques of it. (I know Abbie Cox has said this is well—in her “not like other girls” video (where she. wildly misunderstands that term) which makes me extremely uncomfortable in general. So that may bias me but.)
I don't think it's WRONG exactly; I do think it's lazy and belies their claims of historical authenticity. because she doesn't just wear those clothes in private- she wears them while working as a governess AND in her freaking publisher's office
would that have worked for an already-famous author? yes. look up George Sand; she pulled it off splendidly. for a young woman just starting out in the professional world, c. 1870? hell no. she'd have been hewing much closer to the line of respectibility- in an accurate setting, which again is a standard they set for themselves
it would have been more Authentic, in my view, to dig into how a woman like Jo would actually have incorporated masculine elements into her clothing to feel at ease while still maintaining baseline Respectable Female AttireTM. but, you know. that would have required effort and a respect for the lived reality of Victorian women's experiences, neither of which this movie's team had
also...I liked that Abby Cox video. I think a lot of viewers wildly misunderstood her meaning- she was talking about tropes used in historical fiction and a tendency going back centuries for writers to use androgynous or masculine presentation- or simple disinterest in clothing -as "proof" that a woman is more clever/innovative/generally interesting than her feminine peers. not whether GNC women existed in history- which is, of course, indisputable. so there's that
(don't even get me started on the How Dare You Criticize Perfect Infallible Saint Mary Wollstonecraft discourse that said video sparked. or the misogyny and professional invalidation leveled at Cox herself by many of those responses)

Standard 'cultists demand the ghost king destroy and remake the world,' but danny answers with:
"Been there, done that, its not nearly as satisfying as it sounds."
Because, canonically, he HAS. Multiple times.
Not only has he aborted the timeline that created dan, but he also had another alternate timeline adventure to try to stop vlad and cure the ecto acne.
He also used the reality guantlet to fix the changes that freakshow made.
If one is generous, you can also count any event in which a rogue was on the verge of 'taking over the world' and he stopped them just before they could get into the swing of things. This includes but isn't limited to: pariah dark, technus, ember, undergrowth, and nocturne.
And if you're being generous about that, you can count the infi-map adventure, where he repeatedly prevented vlad from taking over the world AND left his mark on history.
(But we're all just gonna ignore the disasteroid, unless we want to make it canon with a mindwipe that erases everyones memories, then it counts TWICE.)
And THEN, because this is already a ghost king au, you can imply any number of other events that are a consequence of the title. Maybe clockwork has used him a few times to deliberately alter some event for the better.
So danny just drops that bomb on the cultists, and they're just like, what? And danny just rambles on that the world is already the way he wants it and they're cultists that worship him so they shouldn't question his judgment, and the cultists are like, 'no we're binding you to us to do our bidding.'
Danny, because he already knows he's immune to binding spells and expected that answer anyways, just doubles down, 'do you really think I'd remake the world in a way that would allow someone to take away my agency? You should be grateful you even exist with the agency to come up with such stupid ideas.'
The justice league slash bats slash whoever crashed the summoning or got used as a sacrifice, have no idea how to handle all of this information. Danny is a 'capital G' God, and God is a snarky teenager who clearly doesn't get enough sleep. One of these days, he's gonna get summoned and just snap, and there's gonna be nothing they can do about it.

Hey hey hey just quick question, have you come across certain individuals arguing that Luke's death was justified or deserved bc "he ran away like a coward" and that Aemond had a good reason to kill him? I certainly am appalled by the idea of justifying or even cheering on the death of a child regardless of what he did or didn't do at like 7 years old (especially considering not even Aemond himself was planning on killing Luke, tried to prevent it from happening once he realized he lost control of Vhagar and the look on his face afterwards clearly indicates how shocked/full of regret he himself is), sorry for the long message I'd love to hear your perspective on this
Ugh yes, I've seen some of them pull this shit. Apparently TG stans enjoy infantilizing their favs while hating the blacks for actually acting their age.
They excuse Alicent's actions for the entire twenty years the show covers because she was a child bride. Meanwhile, Rhaenyra must act like a mature adult when she's fourteen and be completely understanding of Alicent marrying her father when she has no context for what happened.
They excuse Aegon constantly bullying his siblings and being a literal rapist because his "daddy doesn't love him". However, Rhaenyra is expected to be grateful for being allowed to pick the man who's going to view her simply as a baby maker, which she thinks because of the unaddressed trauma of what happened to her mother.
They excuse Aemond never maturing past one prank done by his brother (the pig prank) and believing blood purity because he was bullied :(. Meanwhile, Luke is demonized for attacking the older boy about to kill his brother (at least it looked like it, if we're being generous).
Now, Luke is being mocked for being actually more mature than Aemond and reacting completely reasonably to his situation. Luke chose to ignore Aemond's insults and stayed true to the oath he swore to his mother. He tried to leave Storm's End peacefully, tried to leave the situation without making the tensions explode into a full out war.
Aemond, who is three fucking years older than Luke, acted like a goddamn middle schooler, trying to get a reaction out of Luke. He chose to antagonize Luke and tried to start a fight in the middle of a dimplomatic mission. Then he chases Luke and his barely old enough to ride dragon on his giant war dragon through a storm yelling maniacally about maiming a child.
What sane person wouldn't run away from that? Luke was smart enough to know that he'd die if he stuck around Storm's End and he'd die if he tried to fight Aemond.
Both of them lost control of their dragons, Luke's trying to defend him and itself, Aemond's trying to kill Luke (which Aemond was basically communicating). Aemong somehow didn't realize that chasing a child through a storm on the biggest dragon alive wouldn't end badly, yet his stans constantly make excuses for him.
It's only TB that's expected to be perfect and act perfectly mature. The double standard is endlessly frustrating and headache inducing. The greens are ridiculous and infantilized by both the show and their stans.

Rhaenyra committed high treason by her having bastards and putting them on the throne
I mean... Yeah, exactly. That is the point. I'm not sure if you're implying that she thus deserved everything, but if you are, critical thinking is necessary to understand Martin's writing.
We're meant to employ critical thinking here and realize: okay, she technically broke the law. But:
What if the law is wrong here?
In what ways might the law be wrong? What does the ways in which it is wrong tell us about what society values?
Just because the law is wrong doesn't mean that everyone will come to see Rhaenyra rightly. That's where the gritty dark Romanticism Martin is known for comes in. Case in point: Ned, Catelyn, Robb. They did what they thought was the best thing to do in that moment. But the world didn't agree with them just because they are protagonists, which is the case in a lot of genre fiction.
So, to break it down:
Why can kings sleep with whomever they want whenever they want, but queens can't? It's a double standard. Rhaenyra's problem is that she lives like any man in her society, sleeping with whom she wants when she wants, and society won't forgive her for it. But that doesn't make Rhaenyra wrong in terms of morals.
What about those morals? Rhaenyra, in terms of her relationships, did nothing morally wrong at all. She and Laenor seem to have had an agreement (that the show made explicit) to have an open relationship. Laenor loved the three boys as his own. They are his sons, just not in blood, and that indicts society more than it indicts Rhaenyra or Laenor or Harwin. Society stressing blood ties is a problem. This line of thinking--who parents are in line of blood--will likely be explored in the main series through Jon Snow struggling with the revelation of his birth parents and deciding that he is, in fact, Ned's son, just as he always believed.
Is just Rhaenyra not having her husband's blood sons a valid problem for lineage or inheritance? Do we have any other examples in the text? Surprise, surprise: yeah. The text itself clearly indicates it's not the blood lineage that is the problem: Rhae's sons are just as much Targaryens as Alicent's are--one parent is, one parent isn't. So, it is just that they were born outside of marriage, except they were born within marriage and no one has an issue with it. So, at every turn, Martin is encouraging the reader to ask: what is the value of marriage or of such a societal law? Why does this matter? Should it?
The problem is sexism. That is what critical thinking gets you. Sure, this is illegal, but should it be?
And even then! Even then! Rhaenyra's hubris manifests in terms of Rhae at once relying on the flaw of blood lineage for the throne while also going against tradition--that's what creates a tragedy. You can't rely on some traditions that are thin and fall apart with some good reasoning and ignore the others so blatantly and expect not to have issues.
That said, if Rhaenyra had clearly had Laenor's sons, do we think Alicent still would have stood by and let her become queen? Rhaenys exists to tell us the answer: nope, no, not remotely. This was going to happen anyways.
The point of a tragedy is pretty much never "they deserved it." It's a crash of bad choices brought on by character flaws and also cruel worlds and circumstances that limited such choices. We're meant to grieve.

But my actual point about New Jeans and why I'm annoyed is thay I keep seeing from all over especially people from the west who are making such a huge deal about their ages when how many boy groups have debuted as teens? 14+ I have seen "This video is cute but they're just so young" and "This is a promising start but (insert the 1000th comment about their ages here) and it is truly mind boggling and looking more and more sexist as time goes on. For example take Enhypen for instance: at the time of debut in 2000 their ages went as 14, 16, 17, 18, 17 almost 18, 18 and 19. Comments I've seen were "They're young but they're so good" or "They're so good and I can only imagine how great they'll be when they're older" etc etc... or it wasn't even brought up that much at all. With New jeans, I'm seeing the opposite. It's not like with Enhypen "They're young BUT so good!" It's a lot of "They're so good BUT so young" which is a huge difference and pisses me off. The males are complimented for being young and so good. New Jeans are so good but too young. This is not new. Whether one thinks nobody under the age of 18 should debut is not the point nor is Ms Weirdo. The point is that teens 14 and older have been debuting for ages yet why is New Jeans so different? What is so fracking different???
Hi Anon.
Ok - I remember your last Ask and I see your point here. It's the sexism and double standard. But can I ask: are you truly surprised by it? Sexism is inherent in K-pop. I'm not saying that since it's a given, we should ignore it, but are you shocked the sexism would be extended to age?
Also, we can consider how we're in the age of extreme protectionism toward idols (I mean, let's not forget how "everyone" thinks SuJu are sexual predators toward Jimin and Taemin...). Gen Z are re-contextualizing a lot of old content so it doesn't surprise me that new content that features minors is facing a high level of scrutiny. Billie Eilish has become a pariah for daring to date someone older than her (and it wasn't too long ago she was accused of queerbaiting, too...). There is a trend right now toward protectionism of age and gender and sexuality that sort of appears like an overcorrection. What you're seeing could be a symptom of that.
Putting aside the re-contextualization, female groups don't get the opportunities that boy groups do, traditionally, despite being bigger draws generally (exclude BTS because they're a fluke -- generally speaking girl groups are known to have more appeal and sell more). Arguably, Hybe could begin to break the mold with Le Serrafim and New Jeans. LS have had a false start and their trajectory remains uncertain, but New Jeans came out swinging, and I do think everyone agrees they're a "rookie monster."
Women always have to face the criticisms that men evade. It will always be "they're good but..." instead of "they're good and..." and in Korea, a place where equality between men and women has one of the lowest rates in what is considered the economically developed world, this disparity will always be worse. Blackpink are up there with BTS in terms of popularity, but do you see them getting the auteur-level chances for their art? No, instead their focus is modeling with albums and tours here and there.
The question for me is what will Hybe do to differentiate its girl groups? GFriend were never treated well. The content they got, even in shared promos with the likes of BTS and TXT, was laughable in comparison and blatantly sexist. Will things be different with New Jeans? They started off rocky with the whole cookie debacle and that very sus creative director who used to work at SM. However, I've noticed they are much more careful about their styling now, and that actually goes a long way to changing the trajectory of the group. If they can just be girls now, I think that's powerful.
People deride aespa for not meeting expectations, but there's more going on with aespa and their concept than meets the eye. People were worried about the alter ego aspect (the aes), but what it has done is center the girls as heroes in their own mythos. That mythos and the aes side of things will continue, and that world-building is quite revolutionary for girl groups. And considering that, isn't it interesting how quiet everyone is about it? I'm not surprised given female idols are criticized for anything remotely feminist. Let's never forget Naeun from APink had to apologize because her phone case said "Girls Can Do Anything."
I guess I ask: when this is the standard, is anyone surprised at people saying New Jeans are too young to do what they're doing, which is killing it and making lots of noise as girls?

This is the message from the Damon Torrance Hate anon. Below the cut is a message I received from someone who has less than favorable feelings (complete disdain, actually) for Damon Torrance.
If you are a fan and might find yourself upset over someone not loving your fav, read at your own risk. It literally opens with the disclaimer: "This is not a safe space for Damon Torrance or Kill Switch fan" so, uh. heed the warning.
Editing Note: Not as bad as I thought at first. It is long though. Edited with some added thoughts.
Tumblr media
I actually don't interact with fandom outside my blog or responding to select posts. I mean, I saw people hating on Em on goodreads and was immediately like "this is not the place for me" and promptly created a blog so that I could curate my experiences.
So...I guess this is the rest of the fandom, huh?
Tumblr media
(psst, the pizza boxes contain all my love for willemmy)
I don't know. I've always been partial to the "find people who like what you like and you'll have a great time" idea. And I think I've done a pretty good job so far.
These are the only PD books I've read, other than Punk 57 for obvious reasons. I have no interest in the others, so I can't relate on devouring PD's books. And honestly, I was bored with Kill Switch too. I was bored with Hideaway, and Corrupt my second time reading it. I almost didn't get to Nightfall (oh, what could have been. I could have saved myself all this DN brainrot...but alas, here we are).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't know where you got the idea that having money and privilege equals competency... but that's very much not the case. In fact, I would argue the opposite? Doing without the things you need and not have access to tools creates creative problem solvers; people who aren't used to having excess tend to know how to get around that or learn how to deal without it.
Added Edit: Also, Winter went to a school for the blind for years. She didn't live with her abusive, non-accommodating family. They accommodated her by sending her to a school where she could dance and that would cater her disability. They also go her a guide dog when she came back, and tried to speak to the school about what she wore as part of the uniform because she didn't like it. She was just as privileged in that regard as the other wealthy people in the story. Her family may have been criminals who valued money above loyalty, who basically sold their daughter for financial security, thereby setting Winter apart as "different," but they didn't ignore her blindness. Arion grew up with a younger sister who got a lot of attention for her disability and being a victim of the Torrance Boy. She acted selfishly and stupidly, but it's easy to see how not being given a fair amount of attention after Winter fell might have given her a complex.
Either way, I didn't walk into DN thinking I was going to get a perfectly planned heist story with intelligent criminals, where you have to study their every word and move because you never know what's coming next. I would have loved it if that were the case, but it's not what I was expecting.
The horsemen in general have double standards. They see things from their point of view and only caring about what they want. I'm not sure if we're supposed to see this as character flaws, a result of their privilege, or if this is something we're suppose to ignore so that we can root for them. *shrugs* it's not really that deep, is it?
Tumblr media
What do you mean Michael and Rika got it together by Conclave? These two are a mess every day of their lives. As long as they're happy, I guess? I mean... Rika changed all their wedding plans at the last second to accommodate the multi-wedding party and Michael was just like 'yeah babe whatever you want' ? They don't ever talk about anything.
I have no thoughts on Rika being mayor at 22 other than it's dumb. I guess it's a good thing they live in a town that watched her grow up so she's the town's darling? Who's gonna vote against her, and risk the Torrance sibling's ire?
I'm not sure what character growth you're referring to. I haven't looked at Rika that hard. But I agree that the other characters needed a chance to shine. It should have been more balanced. Come on, PD, share the love. It can't be the Rika and Damon Show all the time.
Tumblr media
I always forget he's only have Russian. I really didn't like the surprise mom storyline. Half Russian, half Dutch South African.
I'm not sure if it's "fetish" with Russians or just a love of mafia stories? Because I see just as much for the Italians and Irish as I do for Russians...
The thing about Damon is that he has a valid excuse actually, let's go with "reason." He had a valid reason for the way he is. Between all four boys, I'd say that Damon and Kai are the only ones who can actually explain why they do the things they do.
Damon didn't just experience "abuse." He was neglected and experienced CSA and punished for things that weren't his fault, over an extended period of time. With no one to come to his aid until he forced Banks to stay with him. And the most truly unfortunate part of this is that there are far too many readers who can relate. Too many readers have gone through the exact same or similar enough experience and find comfort in Damon's inner thoughts. Not that they support all of his actions (I truly hope not), but maybe they understand where he's coming from and the journey he has to undergo to being a better person? Also, sometimes people just like fictional men who like to draw blood.
Now, all that is to say... I didn't find Damon any more interesting that the other guys. He wasn't more twisted or darker. Just a different shade of gray. For me at least. I wasn't here for the hype, having read the series long after it finished. I don't completely understand all of the Damon love either. I wasn't impressed, but I was sympathetic to his story. I liked him a lot more in the past scenes with Winter than most other parts of the series. But because he was such a wild card, I usually was paying attention to what he was doing. Was I overall entertained? No. but I was paying attention.
Tumblr media
I think a big part of this series was supposed to be "These men underestimate and don't appreciate women...except for the few that can keep up." Banks and Rika (and Emmy and Winter) are supposed to appear more competent than the boys sometimes. Otherwise it's just dumb, hot girls getting strung along by even dumber, hotter boys. And that's no fun. So yeah, of course Rika and Banks are going to pull the rug from under Damon sometimes.
Tumblr media
I'm not gonna pretend that if Damon had tracked down a brother in addition to Banks (come on, we know he probably has like at least ten siblings somewhere out there), that Gabriel would have chosen the male heir over Banks. Banks was a last resort and a way to piss Damon off. I can't remember if it worked or if Damon was happy to be rid of the responsibly. And honestly, Banks was happy to take it. She'd been underestimated her entire life and finally had the chance to do what she knew she could. I hope that Banks and Damon had a good long talk and he was happy for her.
But oh, Damon standing back and letting Banks kick ass? Love siblings who support each other. Can we at least agree on that?
Damon biding his time was weird. But I think that had a lot to do with the fact that the story was tied to only happening in October, so Damon had to simmer for a year between books. I think it might have been interesting if we had seen through the narrative that Damon had been making moves and October is just when it always came to a head because of the pressure of Devil's Night. But Damon has a tendency to go to extremes, so being overly dramatic (throwing an entire wedding to Arion to get access to Winter and her family's fortune) or being completely invisible does fit his MO. He's a drama queen, after all.
I would have loved if we'd gotten to see more of the relationship between the guys. If we knew how Damon's bond with Michael and with Kai worked, instead of only with Will. I think their friendship should have had more emphasis overall, since it was such a catalyst for events in Corrupt.
Tumblr media
I've never watched VD (and I'm not going to) so I have no idea how they compare. I know who you're talking about - just not the details of the character.
No worries. We'll crown you ruler of Damon Hater Nation. Here's your crown.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah, i didn't feel much towards Winter one way or another. On my part, I was mostly confused. It seemed like she liked to tempt and tease Damon and then convince herself she was innocent? But again, I haven't re-read Kill Switch so I don't remember very well.
But I will disagree with you on the Emmy front. Winter was immediately accepted by Rika because of their past relationship in school. Kai and Michael didn't have a problem with Rika bringing her into the group, and Will was all for using Winter to get to Damon, but did seem to genuinely like her as well.
Winter had the benefit of being the enemy of their enemy, until the Damon was no longer the enemy. And then they were all just friends, except for Winter and Damon, who were also lovers. At no point was Winter on the outside of the group or made of feel less than because of what she did to Damon (other than by Damon at his worse moments). Those boys, whether intended or not, tried to make Emory feel like she was the worst person for sticking up for family.
You bring up an interesting point about Alex. Unlike Banks, Winter, and Emory, she was in the books from the start. She got the chance to interact with every single character. So even though she not a main character, not even deserving of her own novella, we have plenty of interactions of her to pull from, and barely any from the other three girls with each other or other members of the group. That's really not fair.
I have no thoughts on the group sex scenes. I basically read DN for the character dynamics and wanting to know about the little nerd Will loved enough to commit several crimes for. I could do without them and it wouldn't change the story much for me.
Added Edit: I thought Winter was trying to comfort Will and herself from the trauma they just experienced together. I think Will went along with it because he finds comfort in sex. It could have been anyone and he would have been in the same spot. Damon was the one who put limits on their interaction because he has control issues and doesn't want anyone else to be "in" Winter, ever.
Beyond that, I have no thoughts on what it says about their characters.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I haven't read ZA (zodiac academy, i think? I also won't be reading it).
So wait? You hate Alex but hate the way people treated Alex??? I have no idea what you mean, honestly, because one of my biggest gripes with NF was the scene where Alex was laying in a hospital bed while the boys made all sorts demands of Aydin because "Alex deserved it". like. Those boys very much did love Alex and consider her one of their own. Will didn't go after Martin until after he shot Alex. Because who did Will fight when it came down to it? Not Martin.
He picked Aydin.
He left Emory try and fight Martin.
So don't start with "the group doesn't love Alex." Because that is absolute nonsense.
And why did Emory have to stand there and watch them act that way in the hospital??? When they'd never said or did anything for her? They never even apologized!!!
Tumblr media
I mean...Alex said it was her job? At least he respects her right to claim it. Rika was always trying to get Alex to do something else, like she was still stuck on her friend wanting be a sex worker. I think Alex could have gotten any job she wanted (Rika could have hired her for literally anything; Alex worked at the dojo; she was helping Winter plan tours). The job she chose to introduce herself with was clearly a point of pride for Alex (healthy or not) and Damon acknowledge it was her right. Was he gross about it? yeah, probably. It's Damon, after all. but he didn't shy away from it. She owned it and he respected that.
The group/share scenes mostly went over my head.
Added Edit: I think I do understand what Anon was saying now. They hated Alex for being in everything and the way she treated Emory, but hated the way the Horsemen and occasionally the other women treated Alex as if she was disposable.
My only response to this is Alex made it her job to get close to powerful, wealthy men. She was also the only one unattached romantically in Conclave, so she wouldn't be "cheating" on anyone by preforming her "job."
For PD, I feel that Alex was whatever they needed her to be, and that's Alex's biggest failing as a character.
Tumblr media
Did Rika do that more than once? Must have missed it...
And I'm not sure if that scene was more about Damon than it was about Winter comforting Will. At that point, Damon and Will's friendship had been reestablished and Winter held some affection for Will as well. So similar to the Rika comforting Kai scene, Winter wanted to comfort Will and Damon just had to let that happen because he couldn't "control her" or tell her what do to. But he could control Will, so Will got the limits.
It was the exact same situation with Michael, Rika, and Kai. Michael couldn't impose his will on Rika anymore than Damon could with Winter. I have a lot of sarcastic thoughts about this scenario, mostly because it does conflict with Michael and Damon's characters up until that point, but PD needed it to happen so...
But that's what I meant when I said PD uses the same scenarios over and over again. What happened with Michael/Rika/Kai was the same as Damon/Winter/Will. And what happened with Will/Emmy/Alex/Aydin was the same thing that happened with Michael/Rika/Banks/Kai. It's the exact same situation, and even similar motivations, just with different faces.
I'm so tired.
Tumblr media
What do you mean they don't matter to Will? Everything Will did was for the family. Will was gone for over a year, and I'm sure he thought about home in that time. We come into the story with Emory, which is what consumes Will's thoughts from that point forward. The circumstance changed for Will but we didn't get to see the before, only the after.
Alex was shot by Martin while Will was fighting Aydin so Aydin couldn't get to Alex. And then Will threw Martin and himself off a cliff, nearly dying. Like...Will clearly cares too much sometimes.
Wait wait wait are you switching tracks of the Damon hate train? You know that any Damon sympathy is strictly forbidden in Damon Hate Nation! Do I have to revoke your crown????
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Why would Emmy need to make it look like she wanted nothing to do with him? In high school, she didn't want anything to do with him. After, they had that bond over you know...killing a person...And he was the only one who defended her (kinda). She didn't need to pretend to avoid him, and she didn't even really try to.
I mean, I think of all the boys, Will would have probably been the most likely to help Damon. But Damon wouldn't have let him. Mainly, he'd have to explain his abuse, which would tarnish Will's sunshine view of the world, and embarrass him. It might have changed the dynamics of their relationship, and Damon couldn't allow for that. But I think if Will wasn't out getting drunk, or was getting drunk in the cemetery instead of the bus, and had stumbled upon Damon, he probably would have helped. He's a ride or die kind dude.
I mean...overall, the guys do suck. They're also just not meant to be analyzed to this degree lol. I mean, I do with willemmy only because I want to write silly little stories about them. I really don't think this deeply about the rest of the series usually, unless I'm asked...
...and I certainly didn't intend to become any type of voice in this fandom.
Tumblr media
I...have no thoughts.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Did you mention Em???? I mean yeah...Damon and Emory did have a deeper connection that Winter and Will!
Where were their moments? I want me some Damon and Emory non-spicy moments. The scene at the end wasn't enough.
Tumblr media
I guess they're over hyped but maybe I only feel that way because I think Willemmy isn't hyped enough?? and technically they're also just a bland white couple with a boring trope for a backdrop (I mean, rich popular jock and the scholarship nerd? GrumpyxSunshine? Golden retriever bf and black cat gf? who's never heard of that???)
I hope you rested after all that. Do you feel better having gotten it off your chest?? I sure hope so, that was a lot. It's okay. this is a safe space. deep breath in....and exhale.
It's okay. Damon Torrance can't hurt you.
You're fine. My day wasn't ruined. I don't consider myself a Damon hater and I was a little confused at the start (for some reason, I only get these messages right before I go to sleep so I'm half awake when I read them for the first time), but we got there in the end.
Tumblr media
If you have anything to say to me or the anon, all I ask is that we're respectful in the comments and replies. Thanks!! This is all meant in good fun (at least from my end).

people are now back again with the double standards, blaming Adrien and making him out to be stupid and oblivious because he has troubles believing that Ladybug suddenly loves him for real when we had the development of 4 seasons of Ladybug rejecting Chat Noir, making him understand that she is not interested in him which had its last finale episode in s4 Glaciator 2 where LB angrily chucks CN into a trashcan, throws him up on a roof in it and then kicks him out of it. She said she needed him to understand and accept that she doesnt love him and he did make that effort for good.
I find absolutely shitty that people are giving Adrien crap for being "oblivious" and "stupid" when he is doing exactly what Marinette asked him to do for 4 seasons: Not immediately interpreting every bit of affection from her as a romantic chance. Wasnt that EXACTLY what the discussions in- and out of universe were about? That just because Ladybug shows (flirty) and genuine affection doesnt it mean its supposed to be read by him as her suddenly having changed her mind entirely, that she suddenly loves him now?
I dont like how the fandom, encouraged by the show to a certain degree, just pulled a 180 here and its exactly what I expected to happen. That the moment Marinette changes her mind absolutely NOTHING about the prior rejecting of 4 seasons gets to matter anymore as if the rejecter is the only person in this whose feelings and emotional development has any importance. Chat told Ladybug at the end of Determination that he has discovered his true feelings (for someone else) too and sees LB and himself as the best partners in the world...
...
...
So for the fandom ignoring being rejected and being told that someone has feelings for another person is okay now when its the GIRL doing it? After 4 seasons of rejecting and enforcing the "no" means "no" message, THATS the morality we're going with now? Just throwing it out of the window the moment the BOY is the one saying "no"? Really? The fandom is actually going to give Adrien shit AGAIN, just this time because Marinette herself doesnt act accordingly to the situation at hand and her partners mindset regarding the topic she herself asked for to be like this.
I just... Marinette changing her mind is not even the problem. You can absolutely change youre mind in romance even after several rejections, thats not the problem and it was obvious from the start that it would happen at one point here in Miraculous. But the sexist double standard the fandom is pulling once again for a sorely Marinette-focused Morality as per usual is honestly ruining the Lady Noire and Mister Bug interactions for me.
Just let this boy live for 2 secs in a state where he isnt returning marinettes love the way she wants it without branding him oblivious, stupid and "not treating her right". How is this NOT the female equivalent of fuckboy logic the fandom is spitting out?
And for all it is, wouldnt it make MUCH more sense that Adrien IS noticing that Ladybug's approach to him has changed in the romantic direction, but he is interpreting it as "As I know Ladybug is currently emotionally totally overwhelmed because of everything that was thrown at her, she lost the miraculous, the entire team, she probably fears to date the boy she loves for real bc of her position as Ladybug and thought that I would leave her too because of how things stood between us. Ladybug isnt in love with me but she thinks she is because she is confusing her blooming platonic affection for me, as her partner who is still on her side and takes care of her, for love. When all of this settles down again she will be able to properly sort out her feelings again"
That is the most logical take for me right now for how Adrien approaches Ladybugs love. And that isnt offesive or infantilizing her, confusing platonic affection with real love is not uncommen for people in Marinettes position and emotional state. I'm pretty sure thats how I would approach the situation if I were in Adriens shoes. So isnt it GOOD that Adrien is not immediately taking Ladybugs love as face value, since that would basically be him taking advantage of her overwhelmed emotional state? Isnt this what we as a fandom should WANT him to do?
Dude, this FANDOM
I haven't actually seen Adrien getting any flak, but I'm pretty sure I've blocked or unfollowed people to the point where that just doesn't happen as much. Everyone I follow has just been squealing about how cute Adrien's blushing over Marinette is. So I can't totally relate to this ask? Like I can believe that there are segments on Twitter somewhere that are yelling at Adrien for supposedly being oblivious (especially the people who already hate Adrien, though the level of Adrien slander you're outlining here is very mild by those standards. Adrien salters are WILD), but it's not a take I have personally seen in the wild so far.
Anyway, I don't think Adrien deserves to be yelled at any for not grasping that Ladybug IS returning his feelings now - I mean, his relationship with Ladybug has always had a flirtatious element, and she's returned his banter flirtatiously often enough. Plus, like you talked about, she's made it pretty clear in the past that she doesn't view him that way. Of course he doesn't think she's changed her mind. Even just in Jubilation she was still denying her feelings for Chat Noir, how real that Gift would be, to his face when he directly asked.
And yeah, I'm thinking that Adrien's probably noticed the change in Ladybug's approach to Chat Noir, but personally I think he's noticed on some level that it's reminding him of Marinette more than anything, so he might just be thinking she's being endearingly sweet and funny.

Chapter 7 - Traces - Part 2
"This is Rea's work, most certainly," Obi said, holding up a half-burnt stick, one end of which had been whittled to a peculiar spiral point.
"She makes carvings like this when she's on watch. Says it helps her stay awake and pass the time."
"This is almost more troubling than finding no trace at all," Triss remarked, taking the stick and examining it.
"Why?" Behn asked, puzzled by their unhappy expressions.
"Doesn't it mean we're on the right track?" Obi answered.
"Yes but Rea took pains to erase her trail thus far. This carelessness is out of character."
"Either she left this sign on purpose for some reason or something forced her to abandon her campsite unexpectedly," Triss explained, and shivered as the hairs on the back of her neck prickled.
Suddenly, the forest, so peaceful a moment before, now seemed full of unseen threats.
"We will proceed with caution," Obi said.
"No talking. Hand signs and whistles only. Guard standard."
Triss snuck a glance at Behn.
He looked alert but not frightened and gripped his walking staff determinedly, as if ready to face anything for his friends.
He was full of spirit and good heart.
She'd seen young recruits like him before... The Guard chewed them up and spit them out like a dog with a bone.
Triss shook her head and moved forward to take the lead.
As Triss and Obi moved ahead, Behn fell back to cover the rear.
It was just as well, he thought... he didn't know 'Guard standard' signals any more than he knew how to do magic, which is to say not at all.
He did his best to stay quiet and alert, nonetheless, eyes peeled for signs of movement among the vibrantly colored trees.
He didn't expect to be of any real use and never imagined that he might notice a sign that Triss or Obi missed... so, when something soft squished beneath his boot, he nearly ignored it and kept walking.
There was something unpleasantly familiar about the sensation, though... something he recalled from his earlier childhood, which had partly helped to form his dislike for his uncle's prized beasts.
Pausing, he crouched and carefully pealed back the thick layer of fallen leaves, beneath which were the unmistakable leavings of a horse.
Behn looked up but the others had not noticed he had stopped and continued along the path.
They were almost out of sight.
He knew the Guard used the calls of various birds to signal different things... one for 'halt' and for 'danger spotted' and so on but he didn't know which meant what.
He did not know the calls of many birds to begin with but figured he must do his best with what he had.
"Cah-caw," he called softly with his hands cupped around his mouth.
Obi paused and looked back at him with a quizzical expression and further ahead Triss rolled her eyes.
Doubling back, they crouched at his side to see what he had found.
"Horse dung," he whispered.
"About two days old."
Triss swore and began brushing more leaves off the path.
The thick red and gold carpet gave way to bare earth, revealing the marks of shod hooves.
"Shit. It looks like a whole squadron passed through here," she said.
"The Guard?" Obi asked.
Triss shook her head.
"No. The Guard don't mark their horse's shoes like this. These are imperial cavalry."
"What would imperial cavalry be doing out here?" Behn asked.
"No idea," Triss said.
"Probably headed to Lastiff for a change of horses or maybe to Dern or somewhere else in Thryn. Who knows but I bet this is what spooked Rea. Her fire looked about the same age as these tracks."
Obi straightened and stretched, releasing his breath in a sigh.
"Well, the good news is they're long gone. We can relax, I think. Good work, Behn."
Triss scowled and Behn resisted the very childish urge to stick out his tongue at her.
She was always the best at everything... surely, she could afford to give him one small win.
Triss didn't like the fact she'd missed such obvious and important signs, even if they'd been covered by fallen leaves.
She should have thought to look beneath the detritus covering the trail.
That's how a tracker had to think... to see events in sequence in time and to extrapolate from observations in the environment.
Obviously, in a forest full of fall leaves, it made sense that the leaves would fall and cover the traces of what had come before.
Her only consolation was that Obi hadn't thought of this either.

At A Distance, Spring Is Green -BL Version (Yeo Jun x Nam Soo Hyun)-Chapter 9 :The one who makes me feel miserable and also makes me feel happy
"Choose your side." Gung-Ho said to Yeo Jun as they got ready to leave the classroom.
Nam Soo Hyun spun in his seat to look at Yeo Jun.
Yeo  Jun looked at Nam Soo Hyun."Of course I'll come with you. Where else would I go?"
Gung-Ho was pleased "I knew you'd join us. Don't tell me you were torn. That hurts my feelings"
"I almost doubted you and thought you were ditching us." Chun-Guk added.
Jun smiled at them. "Let's go."
Keeping his eyes front, Yeo Jun left the room.
Nam Soo Hyun sighed deeply as he watched him go.
"What happened?" So-Bin asked Soo Hyun. "Why did he leave?"
Soo Hyun looked at her. He knew he was the reason Yeo Jun left the group. It had been a few days since the restaurant incident. Yeo Jun hadn't called him once. Just like he wanted, he'd gotten lost. Just now, he hadn't even looked at him. He'd finally gotten what he wanted. So why didn't he feel thrilled?
"We already have the material we need." Soo Hyun told her. "We can work on it ourselves." He handed her the report from Yeo Jun.
So-Bin still looked confused but she didn't press the matter further.
"Hey. Nam Soo Hyun works part time at the cafeteria." Chun-Guk announced as they sat at the cafe.
"The cafeteria? " Gung-Ho asked. "What about his backer.?"
"Let's go there and....."
This conversation, all these words being passed between them were as distant as the stars to Yeo Jun. For the past few days his heart ached and his head was cloudy. For the first time he'd genuinely, sincerely made efforts for someone to be his friend, without asking or expecting anything in return. But the person he'd chosen was insistent on rejecting him at every turn.
Thoughts of Soo Hyun were occupying his thoughts when Hye Ji called his name.
"Jun?"
Pulled back to the present moment he looked at her. "Yes?"
"Let's do the assignment at your place." she suggested.
"Uh..my mother is supposed to come by that day." he replied.
"Your mother?" Gung-Ho questioned.
"This is my first time  hearing you talk about your mom." Chun-Guk pointed out.
"Did we mention what did it would be?" Hye Ji said
"I'm hungry." Gung-Ho changed the subject. "Let's go grab something to eat."
"I'm safe here." Yeo Jun thought to himself "No one is curious about me.And I'm not curious about them. No pain. And no joy.I'm safe here."
Gung-Ho slammed his tray on the counter.
"Give me lots of meat and I don't any onions." he said to Nam Soo Hyun. "I'm allergic to onions." Soo Hyun looked at him before issuing the standard portion. "Are you ignoring a customer's needs?" Gung-Ho looked at his tray in displeasure.
"He just doesn't care." Chun Guk commented. "He doesn't care if you die after eating the onions."
"Are you here to see me?" Soo Hyun asked.
"You must be busy working. So we'll take care of the team project and give you credit. No need to thank us."
"I'm doing my team project with So-Bin." Soo Hyun replied "And we're not giving you credit."
"Do what you want. We'll see who wins in the end." Gung-Ho sneered.  "By the way, where's Jun?"
Nam Soo Hyun bristled at the name.
"Jun is afraid of Soo-Hyun." Chun-Guk replied. "He keeps stealing money from Jun." Nam Soo Hyun gripped the ladle tighter in his hand.
"Oh.I see. He's stealing money from his junior. tsk tsk." Gung-Ho's face and voice bore disgust. "That makes me feel so ashamed as your senior."
"Is he a loan shark?" Chun-Guk asked."He lends him money and makes him pay it back with hefty interest."
Gung-Ho laughed."Does he have a double personality or something? Is he a psychopath?"
"Don't you have a brain?" Soo Hyun asked.
Gung-Ho's face turned ugly. "What?"
"I was wondering if you ever use it or maybe it's just there for decoration."
Gung-Ho lost his cool and shoved the tray away, making a mess as the contents of his tray spilled into the main line of food.
"Cool down." Chun-Guk held on to him.
"I can't take it anymore." he shouted.
Ignoring Gung-Ho, Nam Soo Hyun busied himself to clean the mess amidst the eyes that were now staring because of the commotion.
Yeo Jun took another drink from his beer as he sat in his apartment.
A message came in on his phone.
Group chat :Hye Ji: You didn't go home right? We're at the school cateria. Hurry up.
Jun sighed. He was about to put his phone down when another message came in.
Group chat: Chun-Guk: UP and Gung-Ho had a fight at the cafeteria.
Jun's eyes widened and he sprang to his feet.
"You had a fight with a friend while working?" Soo Hyun's superior reprimanded him. "This place isn't a playground."
"I'm so sorry." Soo Hyun bowed deeply.
"Pay back the money for the ingredients you ruined " his boss demanded.
"You can deduct it from my pay."
"What are you talking about? You're fired!" Soo Hyun's heart dropped. "Kids today are so shameless.I was going to go easy on you since you go to school here but making money is no joke." His boss flounced away.
Soo Hyun ran after him, clinging to his hand. "Please! Please give me another chance." he begged. "I'll do better."
"Let go of me."
Soo Hyun was desperate. "Please just give me another chance."
"Let go!" The man demanded.
"I'll do better."
"You're fired!" he shouted. "Get out of my sight."
Soo Hyun sighed and bowed his head politely before heading to the back.
Yeo Jun slowly followed the path Soo Hyun had taken earlier.
Making his way past the kitchen he found a door ajar with a streak of light shining through. As he walked closer, he could hear strange sounds.
Being careful not to get too close, he looked inside.
There, on the floor, huddled in the corner, Nam Soo Hyun sat with his back to the door.
He hung his head low and sighed as he wiped his tears. Even without seeing his face, Jun knew his tears were still flowing.
Soo Hyun's sobs and sniffles were a heartbreaking sound. He wanted to go forward, to open that door, but his legs wouldn't carry him forward and his arm wouldn't move. In the end, with a heavy heart, he turned and silently went back the way he had come.
His thoughts were mired with this scene as he walked languidly in the night.
"Yeo Jun." a voice called from behind him. "When did you get here?" Soo Hyun asked as he ran up to him.
Yeo Jun slowly turned to face him. "Oh. I guess the group meeting ended." With a polite nod, he took his leave.
"I shouldn't have called you there." Soo Hyun called after him. Yeo Jun stopped walking "I'm sorry."
"Why?" Jun looked at him "I had a nice meal." he lied.
"I pitied you." Soo Hyun said "I saw how anxious you were . I think I was relieved.Life was fair after all. Just because you're unhappy doesn't mean I am happy.I was wrong."
A gentle breeze blew between them and Yeo Jun smiled a little "You don't even have a place to go to and you're pitying me? Don't be so arrogant. I was so ignorant. Then again, we don't need to be on the same level to have an actual conversation. I was curious, but it isn't fun.I don't want to do it anymore."
"Habits are hard to fix." Soo Hyun replied. "People live the way they used to. Even if you try to change, you go back to the place your heart and mind remembers." He looked into Yeo Jun's eyes. "It's the same for me. No matter how hard I try, I go back."
Yeo Jun's heart slowed. "What are you talking about?"
"I know you don't mean it"
"What do you know?!" Jun shouted. "Just get over yourself and go away." He turned and walked away.
Soo Hyun watched him go.
"I'm afraid to leave my safezone." Yeo Jun thought to himself as he walked away, not daring to look back at Soo Hyun. "I'm scared."
A few days later
"What are you doing?!" Yeo Jun shouted at the 3 people surrounding Kim So-Bin.
"We were just trying to get the material back that you gave their group." Gung-Ho replied.
Yeo Jun looked at So-Bin as she clutched her chest, looking on the brink of collapse. He was disgusted. "I'm quitting this team." he announced as he led So-Bin away.
"Are you betraying us?"
Yeo Jun looked at them and left.
"Are you okay?" he asked So-Bin as they sat on a bench outside.
She nodded. "I am. Thank you."
He frowned. "Those guys are really something else. I'm sorry. This is all my fault."
So-Bin looked at him. "But really. Why did you quit?" she finally got to ask him. "Did something happen?"
Jun's chest tightened. Something did happen. That bitter memory of what happened at the restaurant floated to the fore but so did Soo Hyun's words the last time they met.
"You should come back to the group." So-Bin told him
Jun thought about it for a moment. "But Soo Hyun---"
She smiled at him reassuringly. "Trust me."
So-Bin stood and headed back towards the building. Yeo Jun followed.
When they arrived, Soo Hyun was poring over a stack of papers.
"I don't know if you'd accept my back." Yeo Jun began
Soo Hyun glanced at him. "Have a seat."
"Soo Hyun told me to bring you here." So-Bin informed Jun before pushing him to sit.
"I guess I'm useful in a way." Yeo Jun commented as he took his seat
"You should get the right credit for your work." Soo Hyun replied, still looking at the documents. "So don't let it get personal. You carried your weight."
"I didn't think it was personal." Jun sulked.
"So what now?" So-Bin interjected. "Should we have a team dinner?" Silence. She sighed looking at the state of things "Not even us three can get on the same page." She stood to her feet. "I'll get some coffee."
"Let me--" Jun offered
"No." So-Bin shot him down "I need to get some fresh air, so let me do it."
"You did a good job." Soo Hyun commended Jun when So-Bin was gone. "I doubt it would have been easy."
He was right. It hadn't been easy. He'd had to do something he swore he never would, all for the sake of not letting Soo Hyun down.
He didn't say this, instead, as casually as he could, he replied "It is for me. I'm not you, remember?"
"Nothing in this world is easy." Soo Hyun stated.
"All I ever did was bother you, so I'm glad I could be of help.I guess I did well."
"You didn't have to do a good job or be of help." Yeo Jun looked at him. "Atleast you kept your promise."
Jun was momentarily stunned by what Soo Hyun said . "I won't be fooled anymore." Soo Hyun sighed deeply and looked at him. A fleeting gaze passed between them. "Anyway, don't mind me. I won't get in your way again."
Soo Hyun kept looking at him. He was obviously one to hold a grudge.
They managed to complete that day's portion of the project and in no time, they were parting ways.
As was common these days, Jun's thoughts were clouded with thoughts of Soo Hyun.He was so confused.
Walking in a daze, he only called to when he collided with someone. "I'm sorry." he apologized immediately.
"Are you alright Jun?" Professor Park asked. Seeing the hesitation on his student's face he smiled at him. "Are you free? Let's take a walk."
Jun nodded and they walked around in silence for a bit until they sat on one of the many campus benches.
"Is something bothering you? You can talk to me. Or ask me anything." the teacher encouraged.
"I'm curious about the one who makes me feel miserable and also makes me feel happy.I don't know what it means."
"Love." Professor Park replied.
"Love?" Jun looked at him.
"They're both forms of love." he explained "But don't begin. You shouldn't fall in love."
June made a face. "Didn't you say we should experience everything when we're young?"
"Not that you should.I mean it will happen naturally. Your will isn't a decisive factor when you are young.More so when you are younger. One's heart is quicker than reason and rationality. What can be more out of control than the heart in one's body." Professor Park pointed towards the horizon "It will be out in front before you even realize it.After making a mess, it expects your rationality to clean it all up." Jun listened with a distant look in his eyes "Did I talk to much?"
"No." Jun shook his head. "Then I just have to let my rationality win against my heart and body that's out of control."
Professor Park sighed. "If it were that easy, my life would have been a different story."
Yeo Jun mulled over Professor Park's word.
Love. He spun the word over and over in his head as he thought about that person.
Was this....love?
"Soo Hyun is not one to run late." So-Bin stated, looking at the empty chair at their next group me.
"Maybe he's sick of someone here." Jun replied casually.
"Me?" So-Bin questioned. "Did I get on his nerves? But I've been working hard."
"You're here. The one who's never late." Jun jabbed as Soo Hyun trotted in 1 minute later.
"I'm sorry I'm late." Soo Hyun apologized as he took his seat.
"Nothing is up is it?" So-Bin asked.
"Something's always up." Soo Hyun replied "Who should do the presentation?"
"Could you do it?"
"How about you do it as the team leader?" he countered.
"Maybe I should do it." Jun offered
"Go ahead if you can." Soo Hyun replied
"It's not like I can't." Jun sounded annoyed "Tell him that being a freshman could lead to issues though."
Soo Hyun looked at So-Bin. "A freshman took a class that was meant for third years, so tell him that he shouldn't purposefully try to be a nuisance."
"Please ask him to tell me in Five Ws and one H, what I should do to not make myself a nuisance."
So-Bin looked uncomfortable "Guys. Please don't be this way. I'd do it if I could but--"
"Then I'll do it." Soo Hyun interjected.
"He won't be satisfied unless he does it." Jun frowned. "So ask him why he suggested otherwise."
"Please tell him to stop this childish banter." Soo Hyun said to So-Bin.
That was it!
She banged the desk and stood to her feet. "I can't stand situations like this. It feels like I'm suffocating." Without another word she left.
Jun and Soo Hyun looked at each other briefly before Soo Hyun aso left.
Soo Hyun frowned as he walked in the quad. Why was he so childish? He really knew how to get under his skin.
Never in his life had he met a person like Yeo Jun. So persistent, so annoying, so nosy...there were endless adjectives he could use to describe him and yet...yet there was something else, bubbling just beneath the surface. Something else he had never felt before and dared not try to describe.
Soo Hyun's phone rang.
"Hello?"
[Is this Nam Soo Hyun?"
"It is." he confirmed.
[I'm calling on behalf of the board to apologize for your wrongful termination. We have seen the clip and we are deeply embarrassed that this happened. With immediate effect, you have been reinstated. We will also compensate you for the damages."
Soo Hyun merely listened, clouded with confusion.
He was still very confused until he received a text with a clip. It was taken that night, in the cafeteria. He was stunned as he watched. There were already many comments, people expressing their dissent and ire. Soo Hyun was concerned about only one thing--- He needed to find Yeo Jun.
It didn't take him long to put two and two together. It must have been him. He was there that night. Why hadn't he said anything?
He dialled Yeo Jun's number.
No answer.
"He won't stop calling." Jun looked at the caller ID. He lost count of how many time's Soo Hyun had called him since that clip had been posted. He knew once it was posted, he would know it was him who did it.
He wasn't sure why he'd done it either. He shrugged. This was probably one of those moments Professor Park spoke about, when his reason and rationality left.
Nam Soo Hyun :  Let's talk after the presentation tomorrow.
Jun read the message and sighed. He wasn't sure what kind of reaction he would face from that person.
Would he be grateful for his help?
No. He would probably chastise him again for sticking his nose where it didn't belong.
Still, he could't get the image from that night out of his head. Soo Hyun looked so broken and pitiful as he sat in that corner, lonely with just his tears. It had moved something inside of him on a deep level.
He bit the side of his lip. He would deal with tomorrow when it came.
Soo Hyun sighed as he looked at himself in the mirror. Yeo Jun hadn't responded to his last message.
Since he'd seen that clip, he'd been deeply troubled. There was no doubt in his mind about the source of the clip.
Yeo Jun no doubt done this to help him.
How did he feel about this?
By his normal methods of operation, he should have been angry. He never had or needed anyone's help to solve his problems. A person like him hated to be in anyone's debt but as he thought of Yeo Jun, he couldn't help feeling a sliver of gratitude growing.
He wouldn't let him escape. Tomorrow he would say his piece.

Me: can I ask you something?
Him: sure
Me: You for sure will 100% say no but I need a date to a reception on the 3rd of next month...and I just thought id ask you before I ask someone else. No pressure, just wanted to ask you first
Him: okay, so 🥺 1) idk if I have to work that day or not... 2) if i don't work that day I have to go to a family reunion which will be hell for me im sure
Me: okie dokie 👍
Him: sorry
Me: Nah its cool, I didn't really expect you to say yes 😂 doesn't seem like your thing.
Him: honestly its not, mainly bc I know it would be a bunch of strangers and then you..
Me: yeah i get it.. lol
Him: 😘
Me: It won't like...bother you if I take someone else tho right? Bc I might, which is why I asked.
Him: not at all
Me: okay 👌
Him: Just dont go fucking whoever you take lol jk jk
Me: I won't lololol
Him: I don't care if you do, but thanks lol
Me: LOL you're so charming 😭😂
Him: or just take a girl and fuck her all you want
Me: thats a double standard for sure
Him: I know im sorry lol
Me: turd
Him: But seriously if you wanted too you could, i dont care.. im not gonna control you... in that way 😈😈
Me: I most likely won't, ill just take a friend, but good to know you don't care, I guess? Honestly not sure how I feel about it but 🤷‍♀️
Him: We arent exclusive really, so i dont wanna tell you couldnt do it if you wanted.. i know it sounds weird
Me: Yeah I know what you mean, I think? ...just kinda.. weird. I can never tell if you actually like me, like even just to talk too.. and you never really want to spend time with me, which makes me feel stupid somehow. But I also want to fuck you really bad so...🤷‍♀️
Him: I get it, its my fault in a way.. im just not a super social person even when I like the person, the living at home and always getting questioned shit ruins a lot of my drive to do much of anything...
Me: I get it, just kinda...idk...idk how to explain it. Like, sometimes I want attention from you and you don't seem to want to give it? And I know im worth it...so it just kinda bums me out sometimes. But I understand not wanting to be questioned and stuff bc I hate that too...I just..idk?
Me: Sorry, I didn't mean to bring up a whole thing.
Him: It's fine
Me: Okay, see...this is not the case where "its fine" covers as an answer to all that I just said....😂
Him: Sorry, i wasnt meaning that for the whole paragraph.. just the last part
Me: 😂😂 okay....
Him: I 100% understand where your coming from and I wish I was better about that stuff
Me: Its fine, just kinda want to hang out sometime...but I know you don't really want too. And...not to toot my own horn or nothing... but im a cutie....and it doesn't seem like you think so half the time. You gotta give me a compliment every once in a while or something. Or like...actually want to talk to me besides when you want to naked...
Him: understood
Me: 👍👍Im sorry to come at you with all of my ~feels. I was just finally feeling brave enough to voice them to you.
Him: You need to speak on this stuff, its not a problem.. i guess im just not as committed to whatever this is or maybe it is my introvert self idk at this point
Me: I don't like speaking about it bc im always afraid it'll be awkward. Its not even that you have to commit or whatever. I still don't know what I want either, but...I just need some reassurance that you actually like talking to me or want to be around me at all. I require some attention at the least. Heck, sometimes I second guess whether you even think im cute bc you never tell me unless its trying to be spicy. Like, I look cute at work sometimes, you could give me a compliment when no one is around 😂
Him: Okay you do have a point on the compliment thing, i guess im keeping it down-low even when no one is around lol
Me: Yeah..I understand keeping it on the dl, I hate everyone at work gossiping about every little thing. But sometimes we're alone and you still ignore my presence and that hurts a little 😅
Him: Understandable, I will try and work on that...I promise...
Me: 👍👍
Him: *sends a video of a super comfy chair that rests your back while you read.
Me: I would totally buy that
Him: for reading right?
Me: of course 😊😉

Controversial opinion... but very predictable to come from me, seeing as I'm a classic rock, pre-1990 music fanatic:
The advent of the CD was the beginning of the death of the quality album.
Why? It's just too much space, and now every album is expected to fill it. Look at the LP. You can fit 20-25 minutes on a single side of LP vinyl. Every LP has two sides, so we're talking 40 odd minutes of music (and obviously a single track is limited to 20 minutes maximum) Any more than that wasn't physically possible, because then the grooves would become fragile and break after a few listens. Shorter sides also meant that you could pack a better range of frequencies on there because the needle could move further without issue. (That's why modern vinyls are often advertised as being extra thick 180g, by the way. It means better sound and more plays before expiration. Up/down is amplitude, left/right is stereo. Vinyl is worn by the needle ever so slightly during every listen.)
A "double album" meant four sides of vinyl, i.e. 4x20=80 minutes. Theses weren't common, and back in the heyday of albums (i.e. the seventies), bands often had to put up with accusations of "filler" if a listener deemed any of the space to be wasted on material that was only put on there to get the album to reach the 'full length' or 'double album' status. (EPs... lets not talk about them. They weren't really standardized very much and could often be released on 12" records the same as LPs are. The only rule was "shorter than an LP"... This often was 4 songs) Just think about that for a second... Fast forward to many years later. The old time limit for an LP, of 40 minutes, which a band could knock out EVERY YEAR and this was thought to be NORMAL, is now HALF of what can be fit onto a single CD. For a "single" album! Not double album. Single. And currently artists & bands only release new albums... what? Every two years? Three? More?
Now, officially, the time minimum for an album (by the Grammy awards rules, yeah I know but stay with me) is still said to be 30 minutes. But because there's no longer any physical limit, artists are making the most of that space.... and usually for the worse. Whyyy?? Because we expect it. well, not me but you know.
Fast forward again. Everything is streamed and sales of physical media is way down. What's the time limit now? Is there one? But more pressingly, people are using streaming to listen to specific songs and pretty much ignore the album altogether. Does the album still carry that significance it used to? I wouldn't know I suppose...
Imagine if any famous classic album had been forcibly expanded to be twice as long.. that albums power and greatness would have been watered down extraordinarily.
And yes I'm a progressive rock fan and yes I do enjoy those longer 20 minute tracks and yes concept albums are essentially 40 minute long pieces, but you know what? There are very few people with the talent to do that. There are many bands that I've listened to that tried and failed. There are many bands who tried and failed to make a 40 minute album... how many of them would have fared far better and been given more of a better chance to succeed if they didn't feel like they had to pump out 80 minutes every time they did an album?
Anyway jesus fucking christ this is a rant....

Okay I probably should've articulated myself better but tbh I was not expecting my original post to get as much attention as it did.
Anyways: yes the epilogues and hs^2 are dubiously canon and ignored by a vast majority of the fandom, including myself. This is why I don't think that every single depiction ever of Roxy should be transmasc, because that version of Roxy is only 'canon' to the meat timeline and even then, the 'canon-ness' of the epilogues and hs^s vs the original homestuck is negligible at best.
However: as for June, the only degree of 'canon-ness' is the Toblerone arg, regardless of whether June was stated to be canon vs just-epilogues-and-hs^2-canon we all know that that's a fast and lose term in regards to homestuck and the fandom are actively encouraged to not take the comments of Hussie or anyone else who's worked on official homestuck content as word of god. To clarify, I am NOT saying I dislike the June headcanon/au/interpretation, it has a solid basis and even if it didn't it'd still be a fun and interesting take on Egbert's character. I also don't think that depicting Egbert as John is bad, provided the people who do so aren't being transmisogynistic about it. Again, if we're going by 'canon-ness' here as reasons for portraying characters as trans vs just personal enjoyment and headcanons, then June's transfemme-ness is just as equally debatable/non-canon as Roxy's transmasc-ness.
Also: I am aware that there is a complicated history in regards to Roxy and transness in the fandom. Many, many people headcanon(ed) Roxy as transfeminine, including myself, and it was upsetting for many people, especially transfemme people who really saw themselves in Roxy, to have that headcanon/fanon utterly disregarded. Additionally, as a transmasc person, I feel the execution of Roxy's 'gender arc' was stereotypical, distasteful, and poorly executed at best, especially the inclusion of Dirk, who much of the fandom headcanoned as transmasc and who a lot of transmasc homestucks, myself included, really saw themselves in, as horribly transphobic to Roxy (and Calliope) for no good reason.
So ultimately: I don't have an issue if people want to portray Roxy as transfemme or even just as a cis girl, either because they don't feel that the epilogues and hs^2 are canon (I certainly don't feel that they are), or purely because of personal preference. Where I do have an issue is that some people, especially on twitter from what I've noticed, will argue that June is indisputably 100% canon across all of homestuck because of the Toblerone ARG and comments from Hussie + other homestuck writers and that any depiction of Egbert as anything but transfemme is inherently transmisogynistic (which it can be, don't get me wrong! But it isn't always) but then turn around and depict Roxy as transfemme or cis female in their fancontent as well and make the argument of 'the epilogues and hs^2 aren't canon' when you point out this double standard.
Again: I don't think there is inherently an issue with people having both June and female Roxy coexist in their fancontent, my issue is that people will act like June is an indisputable truth of Egbert's character, but then act as if Roxy's transmasc-ness can be ignored when when it is arguably, if not more canon than June, if we're deciding to acknowledge the epilogues, hs^2, and other non-original comic official content.
And the worst thing is I'm still going to get labelled a transmisogynist for pointing all this out even though I'm just as upset as anyone else over both the completely insensitive decision to make Roxy transmasc (which hurt both transfemme and transmasc fans) and the complete lack of progress on including June as June in hs^2 or any other official content. I honestly just wish homestuck had left every character's gender as open to interpretation, which I know isn't great representation wise, but at least would've avoided all this discourse and hurt and anger.

I keep falling for boys and mistaking them for men
series sum: After several failed relationships, you decide that you’re over waiting for Mr. Right to come around and help start a family. In a drunken ramble, you ask your best friend if he’ll be your donor. You didn’t expect him to say yes. As you and Angel enter uncharted waters, you both realize neither of you fully thought the initial proposal through.
words: 1.8 K
Tumblr media
What is it they say…hope breeds eternal misery.
Or, as Angel Reyes likes to say, “I don’t know why you’re wasting time on that asshole.”
Asshole is the nicest term you can dub your boyfriend--correction, your ex-boyfriend.
Ex-boyfriend.
It’s strange how quickly two letters--a simple prefix--can change your life.
One minute, you’re joining your boyfriend and his family on a getaway to the beach. The next, you’re being kindly escorted out of a restaurant for tossing a drink in his face.
When you’d left Santo Padre Friday afternoon, you had a single thought in your mind. He’s finally going to propose. The nervous behavior, the talks about moving to a bigger apartment, him inviting you to a weekend getaway with his family.
How else would a rational person explain this behavior?
Well, according to Michael, all of those things do not add up to a proposal. They add up to “softening the blow."
As you sit on the curb waiting for your uber, with Michael's big splurge of the evening in hand--a bottle of Cabernet, you realize his explanation was complete bullshit. How is dragging you to Santa Monica for the weekend "softening the blow?" If he was going to break up with you, he could have done it in Santo Padre.
As you double-check the ETA on your uber, you remember.
Michael didn't drag you to Santa Monica to break up with you. He dragged you to Santa Monica to ask you to "take a break."
Apparently, there's a difference.
As Michael put it, with his birthday fast approaching, he'd had an epiphany. He needed time to "get out there" and "explore" his options.
"We're in our thirties," he'd explained. "We only have a few years left before we're expected to settle down, have kids. I think we should take this time to get everything out of our system, so by the time we come back together, we're ready to start that family you're always talking about."
The nervousness you'd seen the past two weeks? Had nothing to do with hiding a ring, or trying to find the perfect opportunity to pop the question. The nervousness was Michael trying to find the right time to ask you not to renew the lease of the apartment, you share, at the end of the month.
The talk about upgrading to a bigger apartment? Had nothing to do with having an extra room for the kid you've both talked about having. It was so that he could move in with his two best friends.
Michael’s epiphany left you in shock. You were caught between realizing the entire revelation wasn’t a complete joke and realizing you were expected to ride home with his family in the morning. The drink tossing didn’t come until Michael rubbed his hands together, a knowing smile sliding onto his face.
Taking your shocked silence as a lack of protest to his idea, Michael nodded over his shoulder. “You wanna head back up to the room...have some fun our last night together?”
Tumblr media
The weight of Samantha--wait. No. Savanna...Sabrina? No, Salena.
The weight of Salena’s body presses Angel into the mattress. Her body is nearly directly on top of his, her face nuzzled into the warmth of his neck.
He’s not used to women sleeping over. Angel has one rule. He wants to sleep alone. Translation, be gone when he wakes in the morning.
That’s why, when he wakes to the sound of a slamming door, Angel is pissed.
His initial thought is that Salena let the door slam on her way out. The only problem is, Salena is still in bed with him--sleeping soundly. If she wasn’t, he would have been up able to react quicker. Because if it’s not Salena leaving, it means that someone is coming in.
“You need to go,” Angel mumbles as he manages to escape her grip.
Salena responds by rolling over and ignoring his request.
When he leaves his bedroom, Angel finds his entire house in darkness. His hand runs down his face as your voice fills the air.
"Ow--shit!" Your keys and purse fall to the floor as you bump into the coffee table.
"Y/N, what are you doing?"
“What are you doing?” You counter the slurring of your speech causing Angel’s head to shake. “...standing in the dark like a fucking creep.”
“Are you drunk?”
Your head shakes. Even if half-asleep, Angel knows you’re not drunk. You’re hammered, at least by your standards. He’s known you long enough to realize you’re a lightweight. A two and a half-hour ride with a bottle of Cabernet meant you were well past your limit.
“And why are you back early--did you drive here?”
“No,” you scoff. “I took an uber obviously--”
A second trip into the coffee table silences the rest of your response.
“Alright, come on--” Angel takes your hand in his, preventing you from falling forward.
“I don’t need your help.” Yanking your hand free of his grip--with more force than necessary--you stumble backward. Between the late hour and his body still attempting to shake off its grogginess, the action is too fast for Angel to predict. “Or any man’s help for that matter...fucking men--always thinking they need to save me--”
“What the fuck are you talking about?”
“I’m talking about you--and fucking...fucking Michael--that piece of shit...” Despite your previous attempt to escape him, you turn on your heels causing Angel to bump into you. Instinctively, his hands find your waist. An innocent attempt to help maintain your balance. “--I said I don’t need help walking, Angel--”
“Clearly.” The smirk on his lips narrows your eyes.
The pathetic attempt of a shove you apply to his chest is enough to tip your already unsteady balance.
In his defense, Angel isn’t used to “rescuing” you from a drunk faceplant. Usually, the roles are reversed.
It may not be the smartest move, but it’s the quickest way to prevent another one of your escape attempts. Angel tightens his grip on your waist, pulling a small yelp from your lips as he lifts you off the ground throwing you over his shoulder.
The sudden shift in your posture blurs your vision--sending the room spinning. The rush of blood to your head causes your palm to come down hard in frustration against Angel’s back.
“Put me down…” Angel’s head shakes as your slurred speech trails off for a moment. Seizing the break in your resistance, he carries you across the darkened room towards the security of the sofa. “...what the hell are you doing in my house anyway?”
“This is my house.” Angel huffs as he lowers you onto the sofa. “If you get up, I’m not stopping you. I'm serious, I'll let you bust your ass this time.”
But moving from the sofa has already left your mind. Instead, your focus has drifted. Scanning the living room as Angel disappears. Despite his words, you're still not sure why you've ended up at his house and not yours.
“Here drink this,” Angel sighs as he returns. He hopes the glass of water will miraculously sober you up. Between failing to kick Salena out, and you showing up drunk at 3 in the morning, Angel is considering giving up women. At least for a few hours.
Angel’s steps come to a slow halt as he rounds the sofa to find you gone. Somehow, in the time it took him to fill a glass with water, you have slid down to the floor. Your back against the sofa, you’ve given up the impossible task of unfastening your heels. Instead, you’re tugging at them. Groans of frustration fill the air once the heels remain in place.
The shaky breaths and trembling of your fingers widen Angel’s eyes.
“Shit--are you crying?”
“I’m not crying.” The shaking of your head only seems to push the tears out faster. The blurring of your vision makes the task at hand impossible. “I’m not crying.”
“My bad, you’re not crying,” Angel repeats, hopeful it’ll make the crying stop. Handling a crying woman is not his strongest suit. In fact, he tries to avoid crying women at all costs. He focuses on the easier task of removing your heels. He offers you an encouraging smile once he’s done. “See, you’re all good.”
“No, I’m not.” Reaching forward, you grab the nearest heel, launching it as hard as you can. “Michael got me these.”
You manage to grab the second heel before Angel can. You launch it in the same direction as the first.
“I’ve always hated those ugly fucking shoes.”
The second heel doesn’t land in the middle of the floor like its predecessor. Instead, it flies straight into Salena’s arm as she rounds the corner.
“Ow--what the fuck? Angel!”
The overhead light cuts on, temporarily blinding both you and Angel. When you open your eyes, you find a half-dressed Salena standing over you. Your discarded heel in her left hand, her narrowed eyes focused on you.
"So, this is why you wanted me to leave? Your girlfriend is home?"
"Neither of us is his girlfriend, sweetheart." you correct.
Tumblr media
“I’m not sleeping in your bed ever again,” you clarify, your voice muffled against your palms. “Not until you wash your sheets.”
In the time it took to get Salena out of the house you’ve found that your body has begun to crash. The idea of laying down the only thought of your mind. That’s why the moment he’s settled alongside you on the floor, Angel’s shoulder becomes your pillow.
“Please don’t say I told you so.”
Passing up the opportunity to be right, is not in Angel’s nature. But one look at you, he’s biting his tongue.
“I never liked him.”
“You've never liked anyone I’ve dated,” you laugh quietly.
“That’s because you only date assholes.”
“Takes one to know one.”
“Exactly.”
Angel's arm drapes around you, the gentle squeeze he gives bringing a weak smile to your lips.
“That’s it,” you sigh. “I’m done dating. Forever.”
“Dating is overrated,” Angel notes.
It’s a phrase Angel has told you nearly a million times over the years. Typically, after you’ve watched him ensnare yet another naive woman with his smile. You typically roll your eyes at Angel's mantra, but right now, you don’t even bother.
“I’m serious, if you see me even blinking at the same guy twice grab me.”
“Yeah, okay,” Angel chuckles.
He knows there's no point in taking the promise any further. If Angel is a cynic when it comes to dating, you’re the poster child for hopeless romantics.
When you fall in love, you fall hard. When you get heartbroken, the fallout hits the hardest.
“I can’t wait until my forties to have a kid.”
“What?”
“I’ll be in my sixties when they graduate high school--my sixties!”
“That’s what this is about?”
“...he doesn’t want kids...at least not right now...he wants time to explore other options before being shackled to me forever.”
“I’m going to kick his fucking ass.”
“When you do, can I watch?”
“Fuck that, you’re getting in a few hits.”
“I can’t believe I wasted three years on him, thinking he was going to help me start a family,” you groan. “When I could’ve just asked you.”
Angel laughs, his smile growing as you giggle.
“I’m serious. Definitely would’ve happened faster.”
“If you want to have sex with me, there are much easier ways--”
“Shut up, it is not about sex,” you assure him as your eyes drift shut. “I actually pride myself in being one of the few women in this town you haven’t slept with. Being immune to your charm is a superpower.”
“You still ended up here tonight,” Angel grins.
You softly smile.
“That’s because you’re my best friend, and you always give the best hugs when I feel like shit.”

NO WAIT THAT MEME MADE ME THINK
Alma with brulores
Like isamira is a hot pocket on its own
But her second oldest granddaughter and her only brunito?
Like
She’s not Isa so it’s not probably crazy but still, still
mmm. mmmmmm so, I imagine she'd freak out somewhat equally, because in one hand, you have her golden child and her personal punching bag scapegoat. One of the fun things about Isamira is that, usually, the older one is the one experiencing the most inc3st guilt, right? The older one gets blamed the most, right??? However in this case the older one is the Golden Child so, even though logic would indicate she's the evil scary predator hurting the younger one, the younger one, who should be protecc, is being blamed for everything. Which is fucked up like lmao imagine if the situation was actually realistic like OBVIOUSLY any normal grandmother would be right to assume the older adult sibling is the predator in the situation, like lmao who blames the 15 y.o for shit like this it's INSANE actually and they're lucky this is all fiction and we're suspending our disbelief to pretend it's cute because it would be really fucking dangerous for Mirabel if Alma blamed her. That's how you end up with a severily abused child. And while it's obviously not happening in this scenario because i'm a baby who likes fluff and wholesome ships Isabela wouldn't hurt Mirabel like that, it shows how cold and uncaring Alma can be towards Mirabel. Like lmao yeah risk endangering your youngest granddaughter like that by blaming for *checks notes* being (supposedly) s3xually abused lol. It's cruel and irresponsible and unloving and it hurts me to think of ouch ouch like in order to blame your youngest granddaughter over something like this you need to REALLY FUCKING HATE HER. Maybe it's my big sister instincs making me go PROTECC but jnjnknjjn Alma what the fuck are you smoking.
The idea that Mirabel is "a bad influence" on Isabela, that she's "ruining her" somehow, when all she does is to innocently offer her love and affection for who she truly is, an affection that Isabela returns, is one of the factors that adds angst to the ship, and I love angst, I think it's great because there's always the underlying knowledge that you will never be as loved by your family as your sister/partner is, but at least you have her, who loves you more than anyone else. Meaning: BIG SISTER PROTECC. Big sisters who protecc are very important. Nnngnhhhhgh scapegoat child x golden child dynamic my beloved. Ahh i could talk about isamira for hours.
BUT
On the other hand you have Dolores and Bruno, and I don't think Alma thinks... much... about Dolores... at all. Like, sure, she loves her, but she's not one of the cool colors sisters u know. The cool color sisters always seem to be at the center of everything for better or worse, while the warm colors children kinda fade into the background, and I've talked about this before. I think they're lowkey trying to make themselves invisible on purpose, to avoid the exact kind of attention their cousins receive. Dolores isn't a golden child or a scapegoat. She's not exactly disappointing Alma because Alma never expected anything from her lol which is lowkey what Dolores wanted. Now, she's at the center of this whole ordeal, which must bring her a lot of stress, but Alma isn't blaming her - she's blaming Bruno, because of course she blames Bruno. Bruno, I think, is even worse a scapegoat than Mirabel. He's been punished for every little thing for fifty years, even when he wasn't present. Not to mention he has a bigger age gap with Dolores than Isabela has with Mirabel, so any pretense about the younger one being a "bad influence" on the person that anyone else would have assumed was abusing them gets thrown out the window. Double standards, you say? Very much, indeed, now the younger one is innocently ignorant at worst and a poor brainwashed victim at best, because even if Dolores isn't Alma's favorite, she clearly doesn't have the power or ability to force Bruno into any kind of situation (she has enough blackmail material to start a war but who cares lol), why are we even asking that question? You don't need to ask how come Bruno is to blame - of course he is! He's a man, he's old enough to be her dad, he's her uncle, he's Bruno... of course it's all on Bruno. In fact, it's so bad, that I think that if both situations were presented at the same time, Abuela would dedicate much more time to punishing Bruno than to punish Mirabel - partially because he's her son and Mirabel already has a mother to punish her, and partially because he's Bruno, he's even worse than Mira.
I think it would be a highly stressful situation for Alma. It terrifies her, and her fear comes out as anger. Honestly I don't know which situation would anger her more, but I'm inclined to assume she's angry about brulores mostly because of Bruno, and angry about isamira mostly because of the impact Mirabel has on Isabela. As usual, Dolores is forgotten, pushed to the side, regarded a victim of Bruno's scheme, rather than someone capable of causing harm herself. I imagine that, if she's brave enough to speak up, she'd try to accept as much of the blame as Bruno, even more if possible, telling Alma she pursued him first - really, anything to be there, because this is a situation that involves her and she can't stand seeing her partner be punished like this when everything "bad" that they did, they did it together.
Though I'm honestly suffering for Mirabel the most because she baby and the way her grandma is treating her is fucking insane.

And I'm sorry but his role in P&T didn't really stand out to me so I don't quite get the hype. Tommy isn't that interesting. He's a fucking literal douche and it frankly says a lot about Seb that he's all buddy buddy with him. /////
Dear Anon 5, we don’t give a shit about your opinion on his performance, critics, experts and the general public, as well as people who know tommy lee definitely know better than anon number 5….no one is holding their breath waiting for your critical acclaim lol and tommy doesn’t have to be interesting or a good person to be portrayed in a show or a movie many people less interesting were portrayed in hollywood its about the art, they saw good material for an actor to play with and ran with it….also it doesn’t matter if its a fucking serial killer you played in a movie, if its a real person, you would want to meet them, you would want to know their opinion of your portrayal, you would want to compare your version with the real them. And lets assume its tommy who asked sebastian to go out for dinner? Do you expect sebastian to say no when he literally just profited off of this mans life? That would be shitty as hell even if tommy is not a good person…the same treatment was extended to tonya harding and no one gave a shit because it was margot robbie but lets not talk about the double standard. yall are so narrow minded its insane.
Anon 2: //////// Anon your existential problems reek of privilege. If this is what you complain about considering what's currently happening in the world, than to me it's clear what kind of person YOU are 🗑️
Anon 3: Dear "gross" anon: Adults have dinner with people who we're not buddy buddy with all the time. It's called a Work Obligation.
Anon 4: The Tommy Lee haters need to get over it. Pam has. Not saying they have to like him, because let's be real, he's an ass...but treating him like he needs to be shunned by everyone forever when Pam has been getting along with him for years is ridiculous.
Anon 5: And I’m sorry but his role in P&T didn’t really stand out to me so I don’t quite get the hype. / Who cares. For a lot of people, Sebastian stood out in that role, so your opinion is insignificant. You are not that important to make a difference.
Anon 6: I can’t deal with people calling seb a supporter of domestic abuse for having dinner with Tommy when people have Literally overlooked his other actions lol. Like at this point you seem as human or you still have him on a pedestal and will cancel him for every mistake. They might as well leave him behind then don’t know why they still hold on to him if they’re so done with him
Anon 7: Why are these anons more upset at Seb than they are at Tommy, you know the actual abuser? Could it be that TL/Crue fans will either ignore them or tell them to go F’ themselves and there’s no social media clout in that? Crue is getting ready to tour, go trash Tommy’s career if you hate him that much.
Anon 8: I’m just tired of people dragging this on. Like either accept seb is human who makes shitty choices or just move on and find someone new to stan? Idk why ppl keep following him if they’re so disappointed seems like a waste of time to me
Anon 9: Tommy isn’t that interesting. He’s a fucking literal douche>> These are the best characters!! Douchebags are great characters, they are challenging, especially for an actor who wants to show acting skills. From the way you say it, you don't watch many movies. List of actors who won Oscars playing douchebags: Denzel, Joaquin Phoenix, Jack Nicholson, Daniel Day Lewis, Christian Bale, etc. You must be a Disney girl Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Anon 10: And I'm sorry but his role in P&T didn't really stand out to me so I don't quite get the hype. Tommy isn't that interesting.
/// That's because you're projecting your resentment for the character towards the actor playing it. Seb did an awesome job portraying all of Tommy’s douchiness. You simply don't see because you don't want to see it. You're part of the gang who wants him to play only fantasy characters, preferably just one, forever and ever, so that your smut fanfics don't get ruined.
Anon 11: will side with him despite any shit he does for PR that he doesn't need at the moment, especially one like this one.>> Yikes PR anon, but if I worked for Disney and they said to do PR for their show, I wouldn't say no to the biggest studio in Hollywood. This is career murder. But that's what you want, Seb without a career, depending on the cons ie you fangirls.
Anon 12: When it comes to the whole Sebastian and Tommy dining controversy. The thing is I feel everybody is benefitting off of The Show and not just Seb, Tommy and Lily. Because even Pamela Anderson is doing Chicago right now and apparently is getting good reviews for it. And while I am genuinely happy for Pamela. Still the timing of Her doing Chicago just 2 Months after Pam & Tommy Debut is definitely eyebrow raising🤨 to me.
Anon 13: they are deaf >> The women of this blog are woc, deaf is what they are not, but they have a life unlike you who do activism for likes or feel good. Every time this blog is attacked because these women don't act the way you want them to. There's one thing, respect people's choices, if they don't want to do something, leave it, walk away, or say why you and other minions don't really like the mods here.
We keep saying it and we will keep repeating it: if anyone feels they are over Seb, his career choices, his choice of friends/girlfriends, they are absolutely free to leave the fandom. No need to announce their departure or disappointment, because we *absolutely* do not care.
Be a grown up and move on all by yourself, or choose to scream into the void. We shall remain unbothered.

tbh... people would rather discuss his name than have to have more painful discussions about the role they and their faves have played in the racism he faced, lbr. a LOT of 1d fans have done racist things over the years. some of them blatantly openly racist (the ones holding terrorist signs, throwing things at him, etc) but a lot more have been passively racist (pushing ugly narratives, having double standards, believing unsourced tabloid nonsense about him that they'd instantly question about the others, the whole "he's so mysterious~ and brooding~" shit, etc).
we've ALL done it at some point, as much as it hurts to admit. i'm a woc and zayn has always been my #1, but even i'm guilty of holding him to different standards than the whites. it's a societal thing. we've all been raised in a racist world and we've all internalised certain messages, even those of us who are literally asian sjfhsjf.
it's like women claiming they shave their legs because they "want to". we all know that's nonsense and we do it because if we go outside hairy we'll be ridiculed and considered lazy and disgusting, but none of us like to admit we've crumbled to societal misogyny. "i just like having smooth legs!" we say, even thought we are all aware that when we're home alone and won't be seen, we never shave or do our makeup or anything. racism works the same - it infiltrates every aspect of life and all our interactions and none of us have escaped its web of deceit.
i mean, hell, how many of us have gone "omg i'd love a 1d reunion" or "i wish zouis would talk again" or whatever? i would NEVER talk to any of my white ex-colleagues who had stayed silent while i was being racially abused en masse, and yet, despite that fact, i still expect zayn to put himself through it just because i like louis. even if the individual 1d boys weren't the issue (zayn has the bus1 tattoo for a reason - clearly louis was his friend and not just a colleague), having to put himself back into 1d territory would undoubtedly stir up a lot of traumatic memories of things and people who WERE racist.
and we all know that! we're not stupid! we are 100% aware of the trauma he faced in that band, both from the fandom and the management and the media. and yet we still expect him to package it all up into a neat little box, tie a bow around it, and hand it to us like a gift. even those of us who are poc, who have similar trauma, who KNOW who awful that would be to go through. it's so insidious! we're all guilty!
and i think a lot of fans are stuck in a very childish mindset where you are either a good person or you are a big scary racist. (to be cringey and quote sirius black: "the world isn't divided into good people and death eaters, harry"). but that isn't how it works. no one is perfect and pure. no one has escaped the societal pressure of racism. it isn't a moral failing to put your hands up and go "damn, i'm part of the problem, i'll try and do better in future". like, that's literally all it would take! no one is expecting white fans to start whipping themselves in repentance!!! but a lot of these fans are struggling with that, clearly lol. they'd rather hyperfocus on one little line of cathartic and pretend it's a big deal, cus it's easier to talk about "zayn vs zain" or whatever than it is for them to analyse their own behaviour. but, like, their refusal to discuss the part they've played in the fandom's racism is literally just reinforcing the issue!! this is what zayn meant when he was said nobody is listening!
sfjsfhs sorry i've written you such an huge essay lmaooo. might set it to a cool beat and drop it on soundcloud, @zayn hit me up boy!!! sjfhsfjs
Oh my gosh, this was such a great read. Thank you for sending this to me! And quoting Sirius Black! And your joke at the end; this is iconic. You also touch on some very real and important points.
I have always felt so deeply for and sympathized with these issues, but I could never truly understand because while I am white and hispanic, I am white-passing and have white privilege. I hate evil and discrimination and racism, but I'm also sure I have at times contributed to it, even unintentionally. As you said, it is deeply engrained into our society, our entertainment, our jobs, our conversations, our jokes, our lives, our thoughts, our homes. It is in fandom too and I've always noticed a different tone (mainly when I'm on twitter) when people speak about Zayn. They cut him no slack. They question his motives. He is always judged so harshly. His music and lyrics are often ignored. And the Zouis breakup is usually always placed on his shoulders, even though we don't know the actual truth of what happened between the two. I've been thinking about this the last couple of days and even more so after listening to Cathartic. Zayn Malik is a grown ass man. A POC who was mistreated and discriminated against while in One Direction and still. He knows his trauma and is allowed to do what is best for him (Calamity). I wish Louis and Zayn would publicly be friends again, that is no secret, but it's not necessarily fair of me to put that on their shoulders because it has more to do with me than what is best for them. I still love and always will love Zouis, but it's in the past and that's how I'll celebrate it from now on because I do think they cared for each other very much.
@anon thank you so much for sharing this perspective. It’s always welcome and appreciated.
