Sneak peek/Partial cover reveal ... . My #NaNoWriMo project is to finish book one of my Magical Reformation fairy tale retelling trilogy: Mark of the Red Wolves ... . #amwriting a bit today . “So once we have my ax, then what?” Theo interrupted her thoughts. “We find the ashen elf,” Ruby told him. "Sounds so simple.” “Well, as long as the ax is charmed,” reminded the elf. “How will we know if it is?” Theo asked. “And, I’m sorry to put a damper on our high hopes, but why would my ax be charmed?” “Well, somebody’s has to be. Why not yours?” Ruby asked. “Why does somebody’s ax need to be charmed? They looked to the elf. “I’d hope this guy wouldn’t lead us on a wild goose chase,” Ruby surmised. The elf drew his cape up around his shoulders. The braid he’d woven into his hair glistened with golden strands whenever the sparse sunlight hit it. Ruby spun on him. “Do you in fact know a charmed ax exists?” “I do.” “How?” “I asked for a favor from someone and that being told me to find a charmed ax to accomplish the task.” “What task is that?” Ruby crossed her arms and narrowed her eyes. “What is it you are after?” He brushed non-existent dust off his shoulder. “That is none of your concern. Find the ax and you get what you want, I get what I want, and perhaps all of the kingdom gets their memories back.” Theo stomped his foot, a rather immature yet adorably boyish gesture. “What about me? What about what I want?” “Let me remind you, you invited yourself along on this mission. You aren’t required to stay.” “Ahem.” Theo raised an eyebrow. “You need my ax?” “Oh, right.” Ruby sighed. “What do you want? Wait—I know. You want safety for the beings. You want to kill all the wolves. I don’t know how we can help with that.” He didn’t smile. She noted, thankfully, the idea didn’t thrill him. But he said, “I’ll think of a way.” Swell, thought Ruby. “I am a digresser. I digress all over the place, and over the years my tendency toward random and often off-topic chit chat has become an increasingly painful process for my listener. The gentle art of conversation is like the verbal version of an oil spill to me. It begins as a slow leak, and pretty soon there is information all over the place. For some reason, I am unable to leave a discussion that is sufficiently informative well enough alone.
