Eli is maybe not the most perfect father, but he loves his kids and his wife SO much! Family means a lot to him, probably it's the most important thing to him. Yeah, there's this kind of a rivalry between him and Nucky, but it's not really hate. I also love that he took care of his old father, even though he's clearly not a father of the year.

7. the moment of theirs that made me the happiest

The moment where Eli is reunited with his family in season 3 - I even made a gifset :)

Also I love the Easter episode!

14. what i liked about the way canon portrayed them

Eli and June met when they were like 17 years old, and according to Nucky he never looked at anyone else ever since. Maybe we don't see very much of their relationship, but there's this tenderness between them. He tells her to go have rest, suggests washing the dishes himself - little things like that, and we see it in his eyes that he just adores her, even after many years of marriage (and many kids)

(yeah yeah, there's been an "accident" in the last season, but I believe they talk it over and they'll be fine because we all know she's the love of his life :D)

A sort of retrospective on this blogs’ 4 years on Tumblr...

I think my best fandom year was 2014. I was pretty active, writing out posts, translating, engaging with the fandoms. I even wrote fics!

Then in early 2015 it started going downhill, I think for a few reasons:

- my ever declining mental health (I had failed exams again and my thesis wasn’t writing itself; it’s around that time that had some suicidal ideation, and also when I finally started to get help. But getting better took a long time).

- the beginning of a string of terrorist attacks in Europe. I still remember how shocking the Charlie Hebdo attack was. I was almost obsessed with following every news on the subject, then. That kinda put things on the backrunner for a while tbh. (Now it’s almost frightening and terribly tragic how I’m not even surprised when something happens. It’s kind of like “Oh no, again?” Not apathy, far from it, but the surprise and shock is just... gone. Replaced with sad resignation. I wonder if others share this feeling...).

- Tales of Zestiria came out, and the fandom moved on from Xillia to it. Since I wasn’t as invested in Zesty, that contributed to losing enthusiasm for the series. Plus all that drama made me weary.

If you look at my archive, you can see the dramatic drop in text posts between 2014 and 2015 lol. I did have some bouts of productivity though, did some translations, wrote a couple one-shots... (especially in December).

Funny aside, it’s in 2015 that I got Missy, and gawd did the cat posts increase in numbers from then on haha.

The first half of 2016 had little Tales activity aside from the random ask memes and answers to asks. The stress of school was over but now there was the stress of unemployment and how badly I approached it.

But in August 2016 I was back into fandom because of Berseria. I liked it a lot, and I talked about it a bunch. sadly i never did a second playthrough, which i totally should now

Then came Fall and my stressful night job, my first experience in education... and my dad’s death.

I... honestly don’t remember much about the end of 2016 and 2017. I was like in a daze, I think. I vaguely remember spending a lot of time in bed. I also immersed myself in Dragon Age a lot, partly to have something to distract me, partly to flee Tales fandom, as I didn’t feel like interacting much with people. My archive of this period is mostly a lot of reblogs. I also - I don’t remember when exactly - unfollowed a bunch of people from Tales fandom. I kinda regret it now, but I think back then I didn’t have the mental strength to be in the fandom anymore, even if I missed it from time to time.

I also got pretty into kdrama around mid-2017 iirc, but I didn’t really have a fandom to interact with, so, again, it was pretty passive.

In November 2017, after a year of passive fandoming and distancing myself from Tales, I officially decided to leave Taleslations. I didn’t see the point in trying to pretend I would produce anything again anymore.

I wanted to focus more on kdrama but tbh I’m still mostly reblogging stuff, not producing active contents. Most discussions I have about what I watch are done in private. I do post a bit about what I’m watching sometimes, but it’s far from the long analyses I would write before. idk why I never managed to openly talk about it much. Maybe because my main followerbase was from Tales and it felt weird to talk about something else? Didn’t prevent me from reblogging pretty gifsets and other people’s opinions, though. But, again, passive passive passive.

That was the trend for the end of 2017 and most of 2018. Spring 2018 was a mess because I tried to do everything health-related at once (wisdom teeth, weaning off antidepressants, losing weight...). July-August 2018 didn’t see much posting because I was in Japan yaaay vacation. September was busy with exams and the beginning of the school year, October was busy with the move, and November...

That was when I started “waking up” and wanting to get back into Xillia, (in a way retrieve a part of who I was before). I was still busy and didn’t post that much, but my mind’s been pretty active about it, and now I’m slowly setting the path to come back.

So what changed? Why do I feel I can do it now, after nearly three years of inactivity?

I think the main reason is, simply, my mental health. 2015-2017 was a sometimes dark time with a lot of high and lows, and I think that’s the main thing that contributed to my passivity. Now I’m much better, and most importantly, stable. I’ve weaned off antidepressants completely, I’m in a better living environment, I have a good job and now enough experience to be able to balance life and hobbies.

This is the perfect time to get active again, and, honestly, the Tumblr thing prompting moves and archiving to other platforms have kept me occupied and active (though mostly behind the scenes), and I think that’s a good stepping stone. I look forward to seeing what I’ll be able to do when I’m done with that.

Also I’m (unofficially as of now) back in Taleslations. Who would have thought. But you know what? This feels right. I had no idea how much I’ve missed this.

I think, for the first time in three years, I finally like what I’m doing here again.

Ahhhh thank you, and I’m not quite sure how in depth you want but I’ll try! :D & I use Photoshop CS6 (but a lot of other programs are used in the process). Everything will be under the cut ♡

*I do have to warn you, I’m pretty sure my process is a little more time consuming and different programs are used compared to other gifmakers because my Photoshop doesn’t load videos directly and I’m only an amateur gifmaker so I’m still learning :)

1. Download the video in HQ! Honestly I find online video downloaders to be fine, they don’t decrease quality much. I use flvto.com or this program for Youtube videos and this site for VLives. 

2. Then, I clip the parts of the video that I want to gif (as well as crop while I’m at it just in case I can’t crop correctly in Avisynth or PS// I use the panning tool if people move out of the frame or something). I use a video editor called Sony Vegas but honestly, iMovie or Windows Live Movie Maker works just as fine. Make sure to render in the highest quality setting! 

Tip: I don’t know if other video editing programs have this, but on Sony Vegas, make sure to disable resample when rendering! To do this: right click on your clip > Switches > Disable Resample. 

Resampling is needed whenever frames need to be synthesized due to mismatched frame ratesDisable resample prevents frames from being blended when the source and render frame rates differ, so frames are either dropped or duped (at least that’s what I got on online places since I’m not quite sure how to explain it, I just know there’s a difference in playback).

3. Now it’s Avisynth! It’s only compatible for Windows, so sorry if you’re a Mac user and you’re looking at this tutorial for reference (however I’m sure this other program called Vapoursynth is compatible with Macs! I just don’t use it). 

Anyways, I used this tutorial to install Avisynth and learn the basics (I’m still learning so I can’t help you too much with this area of the tutorial if you have other questions. But I also go back to this tutorial when I get confused about something). 

Here, I just resize with this chart in mind:

Also I set the Preprocessor to debilinear! 

4. After Avisynth, I have to convert the video into frames since my ps can’t load videos. I use this program to do it. Make sure to check the “every frame” option!!! 

All my files are on the desktop so I could find it easier by the way because I end up with 2 video files and a folder full of frames each gifset.

5. Once I load the frames into PS (and set my frame rate to either 0.04 seconds or 0.05 or 0.06), it’s coloring time!! Just mess around with the adjustment layers. I often use Selective Color, Levels, and Curves but Color Balance and Brightness/Contrast are easy for beginners! 

I often times color on the frame animation timeline rather than the video timeline but honestly you can color at anytime.

And I find that reaaaallly contrasting the gif makes the overall look much cleaner and crisper (especially if you don’t want to go through the hassle of Topaz). Upping the Vibrance just a little bit makes the gif more colorful as well, since I feel like the color gets washed out a bit when you export the gif. 

6. After I color, click on the button circled in the photo and click Flatten Frames into Layers.

7. Convert back to the Video Timeline and select all those flatten frames. After highlighting all the frames on the Layers panel not the Video Timeline, go to Filter > Convert for Smart Filters. That’s how you start to sharpen your gifs.

8. Sharpening: I used to do the thing where I duplicate the smart object and Gaussian Blur + Sharpen and I still sometimes do with only HQ videos. 

These are my settings (make sure your blur layer is on top and set the opacity/fill lower. I use 60% most of the time. 

Now, I go through the pain that is Topaz:) Topaz is a bunch of plugin filters that you have to download and install and it takes FOREVER and I only started using it but basically I do Topaz Denoise, Topaz Clean, and then Smart Sharpen. 

These are my settings and the Smart Sharpen depends on the gif but the Amount is still at 500 and the Radius usually just ranges between 0.2 and 0.5.

I’m still an amateur so I really have no idea how to use Topaz correctly haha.

9. NOW YOU’RE NOT DONE YET UNFORTUNATELY ;___; You have to click those three lined bars at the edge of the timeline again > Convert Frames > Flatten Frames Into Clips. Here’s a tutorial with pictures!! 

10. When that’s done, convert it BACK into the Frame Animation Timeline (video tutorial), find those small, three lined bars again on the right side and Make Frames From Layers. 

For some reason, Topaz converts one extra frame from the gif from wherever you were on the timeline so remember to delete the first frame after converting it back! 

11. Set your frame delay rate.

12. File > Save for Web AND YOU’RE DONE YAAAY

These are my settings! MAKE SURE YOUR GIF IS UNDER 3MB OR TUMBLR WON’T LOAD IT!

follower celebration

hello my lovelies!!

yes, that's right, i'm finally here to celebrate my 300 follower milestone with some radnom stuff because i suck at these things yaaay !!!

first of all, i never ever thought this would happen with me and my silly little blog which i started like 10 years ago but never got really active on it until almost 1 year ago. i knew how to make gifs for a while so i started making some crappy ass mando gifs and they got fairly popular so i decided to hang around. then, after i watched bloodsucking bastards (purely just for pedro, obviously) i fell in love with that bastard vampire max phillips and i noticed the lack of max gifs on this site. so i made it my mission to gif every.one.of.his.scenes even if it takes god knows how long haha

i figured if those gifs got like ~80-100 notes then i'd be happy and continue to make them since he is not as big of a character. but my gifs started to get very positive feedback and much more notes than just a hundred and i was completely blown away. i kept learning new stuff about coloring and giffing from amazing blogs from here and i feel like i got so much better in it in the last couple of months (still much to learn tho) and i cannot thank you guys enough for all the support and positive feedback i got since i started doing this more seriously and i hope i will be able to continue to feed you with some amazing gifs y'all like and praise 🤗💗💗💗💗

but anyway, enough of the stupid rambling, as part of my celebration i have decided to:
