Ok we have all the songs, time to make a top, with comments even 😳

1. Norway - I love love love this one, this eerie, thrilling melody mixed with the medieval theme and old norwegian language just makes this song perfect and no other song of this year can come any closer to it. Very unique, true to their homeland, absolute masterpiece. I'm definitely following more of Gåte's discography from now on!

2. Estonia - Well they're singing about drugs here and this song is exactly like a drug - addictive. What sells it is their awesome, slightly batshit crazy energy (I absolutely love it) and let's not forget the traditional instruments. I can see a Trenulețul scenario with this one tbh.

3. Slovenia - Absolutely magical, the structure of this song is pretty uncommon and the lil RRAH sounds are interesting, love how it takes a while to build-up and I just get chills all over. This one is a piece of art.

4. San Marino - This song is destroying my Spotify wrapped and it's not even funny, there's something about this one that makes it instantly addictive. I've listened to Megara since last year when they were at Spain's NF with Arcadia and all I can say is that I love their style. Sassy pink and punk rock with a touch of Spanish traditional sounds during the bridge, they just mesh together so well. I don't understand why it's so underrated (currently last in the odds lmfao) and I'm looking forward to their live performance.

5. Denmark - Generic pop song my beloved, why is it so catchy though? I've said it in a previous post, I just reminds me of songs I'd hear in 2013 or so and I love the "Oh-Oh" parts. Lovely

6. Lithuania - The beat hits, it's just awesome fr. Lovely staging and colors, Lithuanian sounds so pretty and melodic as well as his voice.

7. Belgium - Wonderful build-up, the song at first sounds very chill and gives me Blanche vibes (I looked it up and they have the same composer so not surprised lmao) but man, the climax is greaaaaat!! Especially with that choir in the backing. My only gripe would be that he keeps repeating the title over and over again, which can become a bit tiring. But just a bit. It's still a great song!

8. Switzerland - I don't know whose idea was to mix opera and drum n bass together but they're a genius, this is really cool, like absolutely nuts. I love how the bridge is very soft and quiet, opposing the loud and dramatic chorus, I feel like the song itself is pretty messy and inconsistent but I really like that, it's very out of the box and innovative. Genius entry.

9. Latvia - Underrated, I can see why it might fail to grab an audience in the fandom but I really like this one, especially his voice. The song flows nicely too, I only wish the staging would be a bit more...dynamic though? I really want Latvia to qualify for once, felt like it might have a chance since it could attract some casual viewers (some of my casual friend watchers really liked it!) but seeing how brutal semifinal 2 is (and one spot will be inevitably taken by...yeah won't elaborate) I'm afraid Latvia's out for this year as well. I hope at least for a surprise or who knows. That's only how I feel at this moment.

10. Spain - My biggest grower of this year and a total banger, I don't understand why it slaps so hard it has no business to, the message is SO real and it's so unapologetically sassy.

11. Czechia - Same story as with Latvia, underrated to hell and back, I know the live version is...a lil terrible but the studio one I really like. Love how you can feel the frustration through her shouty lyrics and how she's blaming herself for not loving herself more instead (also the beginning might or might not remind me of Aijā I mean the intro with the drums makes me think of it-) ANYWAY

12. Croatia - Listen I'm very happy for Croatia being seen as a most likely winner of this year, they deserve it, Baby Lasagna is an amazing man and the message is on point, even if it's not exactly my favorite I definitely root for him!! Please meow back if you agree. Besides this, the glam ethno rock sound is just 👌 chef's kiss

13. Armenia - Love love love that they brought something ethnic!! The girl's energy is infectious and she's such a joy to watch, the music video is very pretty and describes their culture so well, overall I adore this.

14. Netherlands - GREAT I relistened to it so I can rank it and now I have Europapapapapapa stuck in my head how wonderful. This tells me already that this is such an infectious bop that will never leave your head. Possible televote winner, love the quirkiness and Joost is really goofy we stan.

15. Greece - Welcome to Greece, everyone who visits the country is obligated to listen to this the moment they step out of the plane- /j It's so Greek, so fun, so ethnic, geez what's happening with everyone being so diverse and true to their culture this year? This song screams summer vacation in Greece and I'm here for it.

16. France - The raw emotions in this...he sings with his heart and soul, his voice is very deep and gruff which feels a bit unusual to hear such an intimate and emotional ballad from him, but this is what makes the song special.

17. Italy - Love her attitude and how she sells the song, it's very sassy and fun, won't be surprised to see Italy get yet another Top 5 finish with this.

18. Ukraine - Interesting mix of melancholic pop and energetic chanting and rap. Alyona just nails the rap part perfectly. Overall nice song, grew off me but still great.

19. Ireland - This makes me have chills all over my body. It's very haunting and suspenseful, I love the uncommon unique sound and how they recite the lyrics as they are a poem/creating a curse, I simply love how avant-garde Ireland are this year! Finally they're taking a risk and even if the song is unconventional i hope it will have a following that will help them get through the semi! 🤞

20. Poland - Oh look another grower, it's such a cute song for some reason and her voice is so pleasant to the ears.

21. Serbia - At first I thought it's a bit boring but now I find myself mumbling "Lila Ramondaaaa", like it has a hook even if it's a melancholic ballad.

22. Portugal - The emotions in this are immaculate, she conveys all her struggles in life so well into a ballad that's somewhat soft-sounding. Epic.

23. Australia - For some reason this song takes me back to 2015-2016 and I don't get why?? Maybe I heard music that's similar to this in that period, who knows. That chorus slaps immensely, as well as the didgeridoo(I hope that's the instrument), but I'm not extremely head over heels about it. It's enjoyable still!

24. Malta - Contrary to popular belief I enjoyed the revamp, she made it easier to sing live and it just has more oomph, good job, Malta.

25. Finland - The whole 3 minutes are absolutely batshit insane and I love it fr, these dudes are a delight to watch. The song tbh I like it but not that much to rank it higher, but I appreciate the craziness, the message, what sells it is definitely the staging and the guys' stage persona.

26. Austria - Mmmmm I know it's a fan favorite but I'm not a big fan of this, like I've said before in some other posts. The hype at first was highly irritating (especially on twitter, dear god 💀) for such a...just okay/good song? First of all I appreciate the throwback to the late 90s/early 00s eurodance/synthpop music that was popular back then, I think it does a great job imitating the vibes of it, but at the same time is it just me or this song feels so...calculated and has this eurovision-specific formula in its structure/sound? It was definitely made for it being performed live and to pander to the yass queen slay ate and left no crumbs-side of the fandom? Which honestly kinda drags it down a lot for me.

27. Sweden - I can't unhear parts of Air in this, well actually that's their style, neat electro pop tbh, I can bop to this, pretty enjoyable.

28. Moldova - Falls flat but what makes it a bit stronger is the vocalisations in the chorus, as well as the lil ethnic sounds. That drum is also quite catchy. They have to pull out a wonder-staging for this to qualify.

29. Georgia - If Georgia isn't qualifying with this one then that means their only hope is borrowing Loreen at this point. It's a competent girl bop with powerful vocals, that has a dedicated following, but I appreciate that even if it's a girl bop it's not so aggressively in your face like...other examples I've seen before. I'm personally not big on it, but it's nice.

30. Azerbaijan - Oh? Azerbaijan sends something in their language, what is this 2050? And not with a melfest reject? For the 2nd year in a row? I'm very impressed, but even with all these I don't feel that attached to the song, just glad they took a risk instead of renting a swede for safe qualification like they did in the past years. I love the ethnic touches though.

31. Luxembourg - Cute and peppy french bop, although a bit generic and that's about it, no strong feelings.

32. Cyprus - Mmm your regular girlie pop of the year, unsurprisingly from Cyprus as well. Pretty catchy, has a cool vibe but I'm not feeling anything about it.

33. United Kingdom - Just a competent mid-tempo boy bop, honestly nothing much to say since it kinda failed to impress me. Good effort though.

34. Albania - I don't get why they changed it into english, why they turned it more upbeat (I liked the balladier version more) and the rap part feels disjointed. Albania wanted to relive their 2016-2017 era I see.

35. Germany - I'm sorry but this song bores me to death and can't listen to it without zoning out which is a shame because he's a competent singer (his voice is the best thing about Germany this year) and I'm afraid they're again heading for a bottom 3 finish 💀

36. Iceland - Mmm this isn't is, Iceland. Very sorry. Sounds like it would get 13th in 2004, it's a very by-the-letters eurodance.

I will not rank Israel here. It's still mind-boggling that they're still allowed to participate.

rating Lovejoy songs based on how aspec they are

(disclamer: a lot (most) of these are a stretch. but nothing is more powerful than an aroace who wants representation.)

Are You Alright?

Taunt: off to a bad start- the only remotely-aspec-if-you-squint line is 'did anybody ever say no to you?' which implies that the singer is rejecting the subject of the song. why? aromanticism or asexuality, maybe. along with the general theme of running away in this song, although that's also a reach. 1.5/10.

One Day: again, not much. the song is about the singer's romantic partner not being good for him, which is a pretty common topic for a song. the idea of wanting to be in a relationship despite it not being good can apply to aspec people, but overall this song doesn't give much. 1/10

Sex Sells: now we're getting somewhere! I see this song as a story that 'call me what you like' and 'it's all futile! it's all pointless!' are also about: an asexual alloromantic and allosexual aromantic trying to make a relationship work. in this song, it's obvious that the singer and the subject want different things from the relationship- the more relevant of this song is that the subject prioritizes sex, which the narrator does not want. pretty aspec! 7/10

Cause for Concern: honestly, this song's got nothing. a banger, but not aspec. 0/10

Pebble Brain

Oh Yeah, You Gonna Cry?: definitely less to go on, but I hear this song as the singer helping his friend to break up with her boyfriend by implying they have the beginning of a relationship. maybe a sort of prequel to the 'sex sells' story. 4/10

Model Buses: the lines 'you're just scared/you're just scared of the future' is often something paraphrased by aphobes, invalidating their orientation by saying things like 'you're afraid of growing up' and 'you're afraid of commitment'. pretty aspec, but it is only a couple of lines that probably weren't intended to be read this way. 3/10

Concrete: not much of anything. 0/10

Perfume: that's what I'm fucking talking about. 'seems like all her friends/abruptly fell in love/and she was in the dust/darling, life was streaming past/so she learned to lie/she learned how to pretend/a drama in the futile/a means to an end'. it's aro! it's aro. to quote the writer of the song, 'you aromantics need to read my lyrics! listen to it's all futile! it's all pointless! and figure out what it's about. and perfume.' super aro, however it's only half a verse. 8/10!

You'll Understand When You're Older: same deal as 'model buses'. a lot of aspec people, particularly teens, are invalidated by being told that they are late bloomers. 3/10

The Fall: love this song, there's nothing aspec though. 0/10

It's All Futile! It's All Pointless!: aro. it's SO aro. see the quote above about perfume and iafiap. also, an entire verse explicitly about not being in love! subject is almost definitely alloaro. and general themes of doing what society tells you, despite you being unhappy with it. 11/10, aro anthem.

Wake Up & It's Over

Portrait of a Blank Slate: not super aspec. however, 'how do you all make it look so easy?/open your hearts up so quickly, it scares me' sounds arospec to me! 4/10

Call Me What You Like: this is the last song of the story that starts with 'sex sells'. some especially aspec lines include 'you could kiss the skin from my lips if it makes you feel good/not sure if you want it, not sure if you need me, too'. the first line implies that the narrator is indifferent towards sex and/or romance, and engages in it only if his partner wants to. in the second line, he wonders if his partner values him in the relationship. 'I'm not made for you/but what else is new?/oh lord, she tells me that it's nothing/I really hope it's nothing' to me references the narrator and the subject experimenting to figure themselves out- 'what else' could be new is romantic feelings. the narrator hopes there aren't any. 6/10

Consequences: One of my favorites, but there's not much here. Maybe 'I wish I tried more/wish I tried more/wish I tried' in reference to a romantic relationship, which some aro people can relate to by thinking that if they had 'tried harder' to be in love, the relationship would have worked. Kind of a stretch, though. 1.5/10

Warsaw: at first glance, there's not much but if we look closer... the subject is unhappy in her current relationship, (a common theme in Lovejoy's songs) and is sleeping with strangers, which is the same situation as 'call me what you like' and by extent iafiap, in which the subject is likely alloaro. 'the place that she got her first kiss is now a vaccination clinic' also supports that the subject of this song is the same as the one in iafiap, cmwyl, and sex sells- same meaning as 'what was your thought when you realized you'd never feel naïve love again?'. (I know I said cmwyl was the last in the story- I feel like this isn't solid enough to definitely be a part of it). my argument's a bit weak. 5/10

Scum: 'no matter how much you think you love him/you'll still flinch when his blood pool touches you.' can't figure out how to explain this one, but you get it. 'maybe he'll be jesus/maybe he'll be jesus this time.' 'jesus' in these lines might mean The One- maybe this person will be the one, maybe this relationship will be the one. I'd group this song in with model buses and you'll understand when you're older, just a couple one-off lines. 3/10

It's Golden Hour Somewhere: 'they'll tell you this is normal/they'll tell you this is love/I'm not sure if the stuff I want is even worth the price it comes'. again, can't describe it, just seems aspec. 2/10

Vaguely incomprehensible thoughts from listening to Self-ish for the first time (mostly written in real time)

(and also I try an analysis at the end despite not understanding the words)

Self: Huh, that was a very chill intro song. Probably setting up motifs or smth I'll look it up later

2012: For a guy having a breakdown this is really funky. Noticing a theme here.

Cotard's Solution:

This... this intro is the end of Dr. Sunshine. Motifs! That's cool :D but alI can hear for the rest is "*Rabid screaming* Murder look like a suicide *Zombie sounds*" I've heard not to trust people who like this song so I'm assuming it has to do with the lyrics but these instruments are fire

Mr. Capgras:

What are these rhythms and why do I love them? Not sure what the vibe is but it feels, like... an old carnival or something? Let me guess, more identity problems? HOLY CRAP THAT'S THE DROP IN DR. SUNSHINE! (looked it up afterward while trying to make this post make sense, Capgras Syndrome is a disorder where a person believes someone important in their life has been replaced by an imposter, but in this case the imposter is imposter syndrome [I think])

The Song With Five Names:

Why does the song have five names anyway? Maybe it'll make sense when I actually can read along and figure out what's happening "Gotta get to the bottom of this"??? This guy keeps reusing things and it makes me so happy. That guitar though...

Hand Me My Shovel:

YES!!!

Fun fact "Hand Me My Shovel" was my first Will Wood song. Found it on a Wilson Higgsbury playlist (I think) and it actually scared me with all the screaming. Funny how it's a favorite of mine now that I associate it with Michael Afton. And it was on a William Afton playlist, ironically enough.

Dr. Sunshine:

Yeah... as far as I'm concerned this song is my traumatized OCs having a dance battle in some spooky bar in the south west or something while yelling at each other for no reason, all just dealing with their own problems by dancing and yelling and stuff.

"Who should I be then if I'll never be the same?" is the opposite of what "Self-" was saying. All that stuff about identity and it ends with "I'm no one now, there's no one now to be." No wonder it sounds so melancholy there. Plus the clock ticking... The title of the album makes so much sense actually

So "Self" was really calm but "-Ish" sounds angry and pained. the songs didn't really amp up linearly (as far as the music goes it's pretty high energy the whole time), but the story is still there.

Someone assured in his identity (Self) loses a large chunk of his memories (2012) and rapidly downward spirals into losing more and more pieces of himself (going to need to lump the other songs together since I couldn't actually figure out what they individually were about). In trying to reinvent himself, he feels he's replacing whatever he had before (Mr. Capgras) and goes digging deeper into himself to look for answers (Hand Me My Shovel). By the time he really does hit the bottom, he's panicking and grabbing at straws for stability, not really one thing or another; not stable but not unstable, not good but not evil, not sure but not lost. Not sunshine but not moonlight. (Dr. Sunshine) In the end he has more questions then answers. All the confidence is gone and he forces himself to just be. (-Ish)

Considering I have a hard time understanding lyrics the first time I hear a song I definitely missed something, but even with what I could make out the story was there. I've heard Will Wood wrote a lot from his experiences and I can feel that in this album.

It was the middle of the night, the skies outside were a harsh dark blue, almost black, and the air not just cool but icy, rain starting to gently pitter patter against the pavement; inside it was warm, the bedroom lamp a soft golden colour that smeared across the red silk duvet on the king sized bed. The smell of apples and honey drifting from the bathroom from where you had showered not long ago; the bathroom mirrors still fogged up and the mat in front of the shower still slightly damp, not long used. If he listened closely, though, he could still hear your humming as you pottered about getting ready, a fond smile coming to his lips.

With his back pressed against the blue covered pillows, legs crossed at the ankle on the red silk duvet, Horangi listened closely to the sound of your quiet humming, able to tell where you were, but more importantly, hoping he could name the song correctly. You always got so wound up when he got it wrong, only to laugh and to pepper his face in kisses; he wanted to be correct, but he would still give you the incorrect song just so you would laugh and kiss him until he begged you to stop between giggles. It’s what he missed most when he was deployed, but he wouldn’t admit to that, not unless you begged him to. Then he would think about it.

Running a hand through his hair, knowing that he had to get it cut again soon as it was getting too long for his liking, Horangi smiled when you came into the room at last; wearing a comic book themed dressing gown and a pair of black camouflage patterned jogging bottoms. He always thought you never looked better than when you were dressed like that, little droplets of water clinging to your damp hair still, the scent of honey and apples wafting from you; but then you got onto the bed, pushing his legs apart so that you could kneel between them, your hands on your thighs as you sighed.

“What is it?”

“I heard something earlier,” you started, “and I wanna know the truth.”

“Okay.”

“Did you get into trouble with gangsters?” You asked, and when he swallowed thickly and clenched his jaw, you had your answer. “Are they still chasing after you?”

Slowly, he nodded, chewing at his lip as he tried to calm himself a little, to steel his nerves. “Yeah… but please, don’t… I can keep you safe.”

You furrowed your brows, tilting your head to the side as you frowned a little. “Yeah, I know you can, same as I can keep you safe… why… Hong-jin, kitten, I’ve always felt safe with you - why would that change now?”

Horangi shrugged. “Because the people on my tail aren’t exactly… they’d kill us both.”

“I still feel safe with you, though,” you told him with a shrug. “I was just wondering if the rumours were true - I don’t need to be reassured that you’ll keep us safe.”

He sniffled, sighing heavily, but he knew that you knew he was worried, and when you dared to straddle his waist, your hands resting on his shoulders as you let him grab your sides to keep you close, he couldn’t help but to be a little relieved.

“I should have told you from the start.”

You shook your head as you scoffed, bringing one hand to his bare chest and splaying your fingers. “I love you. I’m always gonna feel safe with you… all I wanted to know was if the rumours were true - that’s all. I don’t mind that you didn’t tell me, really.”

“You don’t?”

“No,” you grinned at him as you gently drummed your fingers against his skin. “It’s a rumour, kitten, it’s not like… I dunno, you forgot to tell me that you worked for KorTac, y’know?”

“The crime boss would kill us both if he found me,” he pointed out. “Doesn’t that worry you, puppy?”

You shook your head. “Not really. I’m in the fucking Wojska Specjalne. Not much worries me.”

He had to admit, you had a point; he knew, from being beside you at the battlefield when your unit had been sent to help KorTac, that fucking nothing scared of worried you at the best times. The only time he had ever seen such a thing as fear or anxiety in your eyes was when he had been shot and wounded in action, and even then, he only saw it fleetingly; you didn’t show weakness often, he supposed he had no reason to worry about your safety. You saved his ass enough times, he trusted that you could keep both yourself and him safe.

“But you’re not mad?”

“No,” you told him again. “Not at all… but…”

“What?”

“Well,” you cleared your throat, pushing yourself back a little. “Shabbat is coming up… and my family wants to meet you… so, if I forgive you, would you come with me?”

You scratched the side of your nose as you slowly nodded, trying to work it out in your head for a moment. “I think it’s doable - I’m pretty sure, at least.”

“So you’ll do it?”

“Yeah,” you nodded. “Kitten, it’s your mum and dad - I’m not gonna say no to ‘em… just make sure they bring food, because I cannot be fucked to go shopping.”

Horangi grinned, nodding as he leaned up to kiss you softly, starting to trail down to your neck before you pushed him down and beat him to it; making his breath hitch as he tried not to laugh and grin when you started to nip and bite at his neck, covering it in little marks.

“If anyone comes after you,” you grumbled, “then I’ll fucking kill them where they stand.”

i'm not sure if i like this version of hated john better than the original hmmm.... his voice is certainly more dynamic but it doesnt feel like he's used to singing like that haha. a lot of voice effects being used too. i guess it's not better or worse it's just different p: instrumental sounded identical to the original to me but i'll have to relisten, i wasnt paying much attention to it

LYN: I had a friend ask me the other day what I was planning next and I told them I wanted to do a modern drama. They asked me why I didn’t want to do guzhuang dramas anymore, and I told them it’s because I’ve been in Hengdian for three years- I’ve done five back-to-back guzhuang dramas. Ever since I debuted (as an actor) I’ve only done the one modern drama with Tao-jie in Chengdu and all the rest were guzhuang dramas. I’m a little... tired. But then I backtracked and said, “But if there’s a good script, I will definitely take it.” If it’s a project or role that I really like, it doesn’t matter if I have to shoot another guzhuang drama.

LYN: Honestly though, if there isn’t a good modern drama script that I like I probably... I’ll take a break. I could work on my music or join a variety show. It’ll be good to quiet my mind. But I’m just afraid- you all know me, because you’ve followed me for 3-5 years now- I’m an anxious person. If I don’t have work, I start to worry. That’s why whether it’s with acting or singing- I haven’t stopped once these past three years. But when June of this year marks the five year anniversary of my debut. Even if I don’t become popular from them, at least people would scroll past my face. After they’ve seen it in passing, THEN I would hold my concert. But look at me now- none of the dramas that have completed filming are ready to be broadcast yet. I don’t have the face to go on a concert tour- once I start it’ll be at least 10 stops. I’m sure that with my amount of fans the first 5-6 stops will be no problem, but I’m worried about the latter 5-4 stops. What happens if I sell 8k tickets and then at the end there are still 5k left over?? It’ll be embarrassing. It’s just not a reasonable thing to do, right now.

I only have 200 or so scenes- I misspoke is all. That’s why I’m afraid to say anything, now.

C: Are you watching Till the End of the Moon? LYN: All the dramas I sing for, I more or less watch. Including Nothing But You and Romance of a Twin Flower... any drama I’ve sung for I watch a little. First of all- if the platform is looking for me to sing an OST for them, it means they really have good taste. For such a good producer and platform to find me to sing a song for them means they have good taste; so the dramas they make will all definitely be well done. Of course I have to take a look. I have to watch their outstanding products. Secondly, I have to watch to see if there is anything I can learn from these young and upstanding actors. I want to see how they act and performance techniques, to learn. I also watch to see how the drama is created, from the director’s perspective. I want to gain some knowledge and experience.

It all depends on which scenes they put my song over in the drama. Actually, my song loses out, friends. I used to be called the “Security Guard of Love”, right? Why was I called that? It’s because- wait, actually can we call me the “Bodyguard”? Security and Bodyguards wear two different outfits. Security guards just wear the uniform; Bodyguards wear suits. Let’s go with “bodyguard.” Anyway, what people meant by this nickname was that once the male and female leads started being sweet with each other my song would start playing. That’s where the name came from. But the problem is, my song is at more of a loss. Because it’s an opening theme song, so it has to match with certain scenes. LYN: It’s been a while since I streamed last. These days I’ve been doing 10+ scenes a day. The most is 13 in one day- it almost dazed me. Today our drama group shoots posters- you know the kind you see normally when a drama is about to air? The FL and I have spent all day shooting posters. I was in hair and makeup at 6:30a, we did one scene, and then the rest of the day was spent shooing promo posters (海报). Not the kind of “haibao” that you see in the aquarium (seal = 海豹). If we went to pet seals, that’d be something. But no, we went to shoot posters. Up until now this is the drama that I’ve spent the most time on shooting posters for. I took so many pictures I got tired- so tired that my smile turned numb. C: Ning-ge, are you the male lead? LYN: In ZY I’m just a background actor. I know a lot of friends ask me if it’s okay for them to come be a background actor in the dramas I am cast in. Let me tell you- even background actors need an entrance card. Not everyone can do it! Don’t just assume that if even if you can’t act, you can come be a background actor. Not everyone can do it; you need to have some basic techniques. Friends, let me give you a crash course in “how to be a background actor” right now.

LYN: There are three basic ways to perform. I know a lot of you watching might have an interest in performing but if you really wanted to be a background actor- in my five years of experience acting- the group actors have to be skilled in these three things. 1. Create the Atmosphere. Usually these types of characters have some dialogue. You need to stick your hand out. Watch this. For example, there’s a drunk guy in the front- just a beggar who does nothing. This is how a group actor would perform, you’d stand at the side and do this: “Beat him to death! Beat him to death!” Isn’t it simple?? Have you learned it already?! It’s something you can understand immediately. You can’t just stand there and yell, though. That lacks feel. You have to use your fist. /pumps his arm up and down while chanting, “Beat him to death!”/ 2. Point and Comment. Usually this occurs when the emperor or a general, or the handsome male lead enters through the city doors. There are commoners on either side of the path, and they will point and comment. /demonstrates/ As long as you’ve mastered the “Point and Comment” you are one step closer to becoming a group actor. The P&C isn’t only used in this one situation, either. /gives another example of when to use this technique/ You can use this in a lot of places. You got the second technique down now, right? 3. Peddler. Among the group actors, you could be a passerby or you could be a vendor. Now you’ll need some ability to say lines. The other one was okay- we all know how to say “Beat him to death!”, right? The second technique didn’t require lines- you just need to use your hands to point. Now the third technique needs some basic training. If you’re a peddler, you’ll need to say something like, “Biscuits! One for 5 yuan! Come try it! Warm, fresh biscuits! Lady, please take a look! These are our shop’s best products.” Now for this you’ll need some basic skills; you have to be able to lure people in. Once you’ve got these three basics, plus a “art of dying” (??) down, you can come to Hengdian to be a background actor. It’s possible that you could participate in some drama. “Candied hawthornes! Come take a look!!” You have to have a loud voice, too. LYN: Of course, there are more detailed performances, but I don’t understand the nuances and I have no right to teach you. But if you want to be a background actor, come to the interview with these three basics down first and your success rate might be higher. Your success rate might be higher, but whether you actually get the job or not is a different story. Many of you want to come be background actors, so I’ve just given you a couple of tips on challenges you might face if you ever come to interview. I’ve told you the topics so now you can go learn.

LYN: Friends, take what I say in my streams as “for fun” only, alright? I don’t recommend for you to come and be background actors, because in reality they work very hard. It’s very hard work. I just want to say that this is only a small topic of my stream, and you should listen for entertainment purposes only. But I certainly don’t mind if you come; just know that it’s hard work. C: If I act as a body (corpse) would I have a better time? LYN: I know you’re thinking that all you have to do is lie on the floor. Just like when we were young. When I was young I liked to play computer games, but the games that I played were mostly pirated. I won’t try to make an example out of anyone else, let’s just use myself. Let’s say LYN’s drama has aired, and a lot of people came to watch this particular drama. Or it could be that very little people are watching the drama. There’s no way to tell which way it will go. But- they are able to tell how many people, in order to watch the rest of the drama, sign up for a VIP membership. There’s data for this and it’s a normal part of the process. However, I am not amazing enough to be able to influence this KPI at all, so the platforms don’t have any of this type of expectation from me. C: Will you sing the OST for ZY? LYN: Of course I’ve got to get myself one. Think about it- in this drama I am playing a role that will perhaps have some... emotional interactions with the FL, and then “ga”. There’s my voice. It’ll be like you can hear the sound of my heart; expressing my feelings. That’s a different type of mood, you know? So for my own dramas, I will always ask if there’s a way I can negotiate to have the honor of being a part of the OST. C: Like when you go in for a mouthful (kiss)? LYN: No! I said “emotional interactions”! That’s- you know? EMOTIONAL INTERACTIONS. Um... don’t say any nonsense! What are you talking about.. “go in for a mouthful”... LYN: But for my own dramas I will always try to participate in the OST, to make it more interactive. I’ll definitely have a song for ZY... and YNGS as well. I should be singing two for YNGS. I also sang one for ALZ. Any drama that I have personally been in, I will sing for. I have to get that for myself.

LYN: /looking at his phone/ C: What are you laughing at? LYN: No, it’s my friend. My friend was asking me when I would be having my concert. I’m guessing they went to watch some concert recently... You know this friend, too. It’s a male. I won’t say the name, though. He just asked me when I was having my concert, and I told him to keep waiting. I was just wondering why he was asking me the exact same question you all were.

C: Will ZY use your original voice? LYN: Probably. I mean, no- ever since CGX the one requirement I had of myself was to do my own voice acting. Even though it’s not the best, because my Standard Mandarin isn’t the greatest yet. But I try to strive to do my own voice acting (if the director/platform allows), so that I can make the role more complete. Secondly, if I have high standards for myself then that means that I can improve all the faster. LYN: ZY will probably use about 80% original audio- that’s whatever sound was recorded at the time of shooting the scene. So the post-production for that and the required voice-acting will be less. We might only need to go supplement if there was noise interference or if the dialogue wasn’t perfect or if there are places we need to change the lines entirely. Other than that, about 80% of the drama should be with original audio. C: Ning-ge, I saw the audio receiver. LYN: I’m not sure what you mean by that. Do you mean you saw the boom mic? Every drama has that. It’s not just this drama, every one of them has it. This drama is mostly shot indoors or inside a tent so recording audio is comparatively easier. Obviously, if we’re shooting outside, there will be a lot more noise interference. You’ll end up recording what someone else or just passing by is saying. You’ll record that someone nearby is selling buns. We’re over here trying to shoot a guzhuang drama and then you hear from nearby, “Phone screen protectors!” That’s weird. We have a lot of indoors scenes so we’ll have a better time recording audio.

C: Ning-ge, why are you wearing a wig? LYN: I went to do a scene today and later went to shoot the drama posters. I have to have the wig on for the posters, so my hair has been stuck under the cap all day and is now plastered to my head. If I want to come home to stream but show my own hair I would have to take a shower and then style it. I have to make it look good before I start the stream. But that takes up a lot of time. If I get home, take a shower, and do my hair it’ll be at least an hour. I was thinking I wouldn’t waste time and just stick another wig on and be done with it.

C: [something about a scene from the original novel??] LYN: No- The drama ZY... the scenes in the original novel that you’re thinking of can’t be put on film. Don’t think wildly. If this drama really stuck to the original novel I’m guessing that the actors and directors would all be put in jail. It’s terrifying. So there’s no need. I don’t see the need to put myself into a work of art like that. It’s not necessary. It’s too scary. C: You’ve read the original novel? LYN: The thing is, now is the age of information. Even if I haven’t read the original novel, there are all sorts of sources that will continuously relay to me information regarding the content of it. This era is like that- information at your fingertips. I will always be reminded of the contents of the novel and of the opinions of the original fans of the novel. LYN: Usually when I get interviewed it goes like this- all the people who had interviewed me before didn’t really know me, then. Of course, I don’t have the ability to stop you from watching other people’s streams and I don’t think I need to. You can watch. That’s your freedom and your enjoyment. But you don’t need to go into other people’s streams and then start sharing with them how I do things and my experiences. PLEASE do not go into someone else’s stream and then start commenting about how I used to be a waiter. They comb it until my hair is close to my head and they gather up the ends in wax and apply the wig. When I get off work they take the wig off and all my hair is stuck to my head. I’m supposed to take a shower to wash it all out but I came to stream. If I were to shower and get ready again it would be too late. It’s a little complicated like that so I figure I could just slap on another wig and be done with it. C: You can wash and stream at the same time. LYN: No need.

Because I have set the settings to 60fps- I’m not sure how many of you understand? It’s at 60fps so you can have a high quality viewing experience. But I can say they truly recognize me, at least.

Alright... for SA1 it's going to be hard.

Windy and Ripply. The echoes of the guitar and the electric piano solo are simply magical.

Windy Hill. The chime! The muted guitar in the background! The harmonica! I love this theme so much, it's so nice and relaxing!

The Dreamy Stage. As far as jazz pieces go, this one is too underrated IMO. It's so smooth, and I love how it gets progressively faster.

Be Cool, Be Wild, Be Groovy. Radical dude!!!!

Pleasure Castle. A song meant for 3D Blast, and remixed for Sonic 4, but this version will always remain a joy to listen to.

At Dawn. It's At Dawn.

Red Hot Skull. Only Jun Senoue could take a hip hop track and use it as a base for a fairly creepy volcano theme. Once again, the echoes of the guitar are out of this world, I wish he had used that effect more often.

Tricky Maze. Fumie Kumatani, everyone. I love the sense of mystery and tension of this track. And that piano solo <3

Crank the Heat Up!!. Yeah yeah sonic shorts and all, but excuse me why does an act based on platforming around swinging hammers GO SO HARD

Bad Taste Aquarium. Hot Shelter is generally slept on for understandable reasons, but you simply cannot sleep on that funky slap bass.

That's the Way I Like It. Metal Harbor is a simple, fun level (if you're not going for the A rank lol), and this track reflects it.

Keys the Ruin. I don't know how to describe it (which is one of my issues with SA2's music lol), I just know that it has some memorable riffs and I like the use of the organ.

Unstable World. A pretty simple melody, but I like the slap bass and the suddenly serious finale before the loop.

Highway In The Sky. "Oh yeah, it's on." No wonder it was remixed in ShTH.

Dive Into The Mellow. Lo-fi~

Space Trip Steps. Now this is some good hip hop <3 and once again, dat bass <3

The Supernatural. Ughhhhhh those industrial sounds. I much prefer DnB for Shadow than rock, and this and For True Story are the reasons why.

Trespasser. Very fitting for the creepy place that is the shutdown ARK.

Soarin' Over the Space. Again, I don't know how to describe it, I just like how the guitar sound <3

Me again lol. don't know why I asked the last q on anon. I just made a new blog for fandom stuff and am self conscious cause I don't have much on it. Didn't want you thinking I was a bot! Anywho, I've calmed down and actually have another question re: fic writing. I'm considering writing an Oblivion fic (thank you SO MUCH for the insp, fell in love with fic again while reading yours) and am wondering : What was your inspiration for Lucien and his relationship with Nim? It's so deliciously twisted, and I have only read one other fic that braves the territory you do (have you read Love and Blood on FF? also themes of obsession and the author's Lucien is VILE). Kinda rare to see a story that's not afraid of making him actually villainous, wicked, and believably the murderous lunatic he is in game (I dont want prince charming anymore!!!) I mean hear me out, the fanon is fun too and I got a kick out of it for years, but it's SO refreshing to read something beyond another iteration of the smooth, suave, reticent but romantic characterization in dozens of Lucien/Silencer fics.

Got any book recs for characters or relationships like the ones you write about? (hope this okay. I'm srsly just so excited rn like u kno the feeling when you finally get a fic that does it the way you see in your head and are like YES THAT LET ME CONSUME IT anywho here i'm rambling again good day)

My kind of people lmao. First of all, goodness, thank you again! I don’t know what I’m going to do with all these compliments besides become a puddle on the floor.

That is seriously so sweet of you (despite the morbid nature of the content you are complimenting). And yeah, look, it's a story about two murderers and their descent into madness. The companionship forged between them is obviously not going to be pretty, heh. For a long while, however, I was worried no one would like it cause I gleaned that fanon Lucien is a little more... tame? Or he’s sexy XD Anyway, I've had people comment on how much of a sicko edgelord he is in the fic (both positively and negatively lol). I really appreciate that you love what I’ve done with him but just want to say there is no right or wrong way to do it! There’s stuff out there for everyone’s taste, and I am not and never will write with the intention of making the story palatable to everyone. I decided to give it my all writing him menacing and icky and pyscho cause that’s what intrigued me,. I'm happy with it! And I am Infinitely more happy that you like it too 🥰

And yeah, it makes me feel weird to say aloud that I love all that dark, twisted stuff in fiction, but the heart wants what it wants 🤷‍♀️ I just love a “romance” story that's not actually a romance at all but rather a work of horror— an exploration of the dark recesses of the human psyche that breed obsession and the all-consuming need to devour. I got a healthy, fulfilling relationship irl. I want my fictional characters to squirm a bit, and damn but I want to be equally uncomfortable when I indulge, ya know??

As for inspiration regarding the relationship/Lucien, this is gonna sound so weird lol but Griffith and Guts from Berserk, Hannibal the TV show, the band Deftones (hit me up for song recs). Some creepy uncomfy books that explore similar dark themes: Damage by Justine Hart, The Vegetarian by Han Kang, Lolita by Vladimir Nabakov, You by Caroline Kepnes, Boy Parts by Eliza Clark. Also soooo many movies. There are too many to name (hit me up again hehe).

For Lucien, p much anytime I read/watch a character being a sick little freak I take note of it (see above). I’ve also listened to Dr. Ramani Durvasula’s podcasts about narcissism (she is a doctor of psychology and a leading expert in the field who was studying narcissism loooong before it became a commonly known personality trait). It really helped me understand the human capacity for manipulation and cruelty, how someone can go through life working to get what they want while only being capable of loving themselves.

Oh, and you know, I looked it up and think I started Love or Blood a really long time ago but haven’t read any fic on FF in years cause the site is p much unusable to me. Was it about Janus Hassildor? I don’t think I ever got to the Lucien bits. Maybe I’ll pick it up again. I’ve read so many Lucien fics, I can surely read another, and if it’s similar tropes, I’ll probably enjoy it.

While I have your attention, I would be remiss to not mention some other DB/Lucien fics that I enjoy. Next of Kin features a younger Lucien, and he and Tal (the MC) are delightful and dirty and so real. They have a great dynamic. The relationship feels earned. Also Lucien is believably a career assassin and rotten at the core while also retaining his humanity and the capacity for tenderness. I’m picky with romance in general. I can't do heavy handedness and often times I find the characterization of a loving Lucien kind of contrived or saccharine or just not for me (and that’s okay! It wasn’t written for me. We all have our preferences and mine do not skew tender D:), but this is flawlessly executed, lemme tell you. The writing is PHENOMENAL. Truly some of the best I’ve read among fic. I’ve raved about it on my blog, as it’s quite rare to find a story that balances its themes as well as this does. Also Fortune’s Favorite is very dear to me. It features another monstrous Lucien who is undeniably gross and predatory. He’s not the main focus, but the story is otherwise full of angst and sadness. So too light and love and oof, I got misty eyed at several parts. There are multiple relationships in this fic, each of them juicy, but Lucien’s relationship with the MC is a horrific descent, quite a disaster (in the best of ways) and truly so entertaining to read.

So yeah that was... a lot lol. Hope it helps. Also please tag me in anything you write! I get so excited to see new Oblivion fics and would love to talk shop and writing. It’s how we learn knew things and improve :))

This week, I thought a lot about the word 'forever' and it did sound scary. Infinite. No stopping. Just go on and on.

I think I'm going to stop watching Hidden Agenda. Because I never convinced there was a hidden agenda. I genuinely think it's going to pull up a plot twist a la David Fincher. But nope. No surprises either.

Am I hoping too much?

Perhaps.

Besides the missing hidden agenda (for now, who knows for the next 2-3 episodes), I have a tiny bit problem with how Dunk recited his dialogue. It wasn't bad acting per se, but it sounded to me like he read a script. The way he uttered words by words, especially during banter with Joong, or when their characters having overlapping sentences, it just didn't come out natural. Dunk particularly slow down his words so that Joong can caught up to him and making it as it seemed that he was interrupting him. And that happened so many times. I was like, in real world, no one ease off their chatter unless they were finishing their speaking or they predicted their listener about to interfere. I mean if you're engaging a very hefty conversation, would you care about your listener that much so that you could predicted that they were about to against you? I don't buy it.

It's like you have a script and yet you chose to let out words as if you read it and not trying to make it as sound as you in your normal fucking life. It was weird. I got agitated just by watching people speaking like they were in first grade's play.

I'm angry for the little things, in particular towards Thai BL. The lack of continuity between the scenes. The illogical choices in set designs (remember there were so many candles during the sex scene in La Pluie? yeah, what's the point?). Plenty of unnecessary characters to make up the episode. The shortage of adult stories where adult themes presented such as paying mortgage, or maybe sucked at your job, instead of having everyone just to making out in order to push the agenda of being adult. It's not adult. Having sex is basic necessities, even in high school they can do that. You know there is a life outside love. Show me.

So when Laws of Attraction came to my life, I was like, finally. Goodness gracious. Yassssss. I want to see people going to work and kick some asses and love is just a bonus. Arggggghhhhh.

It was on the same path as Modu which is great. It wasn't mind blowing-ly fantastic. But it was crazy and full of imperfect characters and not trying to be some pick-me girls. Like it's not "well I'm hot, I do smoke, I'm bad and I'm proud of it" kind of attitude. Charn is questionable and bad in a very messed up way, which is awesome. He doesn't want to be fix even in the name of love. Because if he wanted to be fix I hope he's going to psychiatrist.

My only beef is that it was very lakorn-y. It was so damn lakorn to point I laughed pretty hard at some scenes while watching it. The singing at the market? The cringiest thing I've ever watched. Crap, why did they have to do this?

At last, I'm about to share you a song and feasibly one of the main reasons I'm looking forward to Friday.

Please DeeHup for the love of god, you cannot mess this up. YOU CANNOT FUCKING THIS UP. Because you already have the base, which is an extraordinary story. The color palette and cinematography are top notch. The music is freaking wonderful. For the first time in my life of watching Thai BL, finally a good sound mixing. One of the fundamentals of visual media is a fucking sensible sound mixing. It is essential thing and can be very annoying if production just set aside that in favor of what, handsome people who cannot act. The hell.

I Feel You Linger in the Air is wet dream for technical maniac like me. Audiophile in me pleased. Cinephile in me satisfied. Acting? Come on, it's starring the great Nonkul.

Furthermore, the first 5 minutes of this show, is a cinema. The sound that comes out of it. The creeks on the stairs. The muffled bedroom voices. The eerily atmosphere created by a haunting score. Darling, sound can do wonder.

Sometimes I never cared on how story unravel before our eyes. And it's kinda sad for me because everyone having their own interpretation about stories, compositions, and frames. But rarely talking about sound and how critical it is to storytelling. Sound can tell you so many different things before characters uttered their words. Sound is the door between realism and fallacy. Good sound is able to make a visual presentation become such an immersive experience. Bad sound is a joke, a laughable attempt to making me trust to everything you presented.

Favorite Final Fantasy Music (FFIX)

Oh fuck. It's the best one. Officially stated by Sakaguchi himself to be the best one. IX is absolutely in my top 3 FFs. I love this game, it makes me cry, it makes me smile, it has a wonderful cast, a heartwrenching story, and it has an absolutely amazing soundtrack. There's something about the way this game sounds that's almost... echoey? and it makes it feel magical in some way, like this is right out of a storybook being told to you and you're imagining it in your mind.

This list was so hard to pick. A part of me was almost like "let's do more than 5 songs" because of how difficult it was.

5. Battle 1 It's been a minute since I've picked a main battle theme, but this one is absolutely deserving of its place. This song I think encapsulates the sound of FFIX, which is just the thing I guess I'm doing with these top 5s. It's like a synth rock orchestra, which I think is just Uematsu's jam (have you ever listened to The Black Mages cause the same sound goes over to there but with more rock/metal). The intro has the perfect sound for how the battle transition scene Looks, and the slower (key word -er, not slow) tempo matches the speed of the battles (I'm phrasing this in a good way here but FFIX battles are slooooow). I love the horn going higher and higher into a short guitar interlude, then repeating with even more instruments. This whole song sounds like you're continually building up and up, it absolutely rocks.

4. Vamo'alla Flamenco I certainly never would have expected my medieval fantasy game to have a flamenco song, especially during a play, but I absolutely fucking love it. It's absolutely perfect for the moment it happens, with the played up sword duel, the show for the people; it's like some Princess Bride Inigo Montoya shit. I love the guitar and the constant clapping, like the audience themselves is playing the song alongside the show orchestra. I feel like my words are just saying the obvious, they were clearly aiming for these vibes but I guess what I'm saying is they absolutely succeeded.

3. The Final Battle Also known as Grand Cross. Say what you will about this fight and how the final boss makes no sense (it makes some sense but yeah I get it), this song slaps. You have this Minute Long creepy intro where it's like "oh yeah my favorite instrument? the souls of the damned" and then it goes into this heavy rocking banger. This game has killer synth instruments, man. I love the organ in the back absolutely rocking out, especially on the off beats, I love how the song sometimes goes back to its creepy opening with some more souls of the damned and some haunting instruments. I love the main melody and how everywhere it goes, and I love the drums going ham. This song is hype as fuck.

2. Not Alone How do you make an emotional moment even stronger? Music. ....That's a stupid statement, literally everyone knows that. BUT YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN. The scene this plays in is incredibly powerful; Zidane finds out what he truly is, pushing all his friends away, and they come to his side regardless to help him. It's LITERALLY in the name; He's Not Alone. This friendly ass monkey looking motherfucker who has been an absolute joy to everyone has his breaking point and his kindness is repaid. I should talk about the actual song and not the moment, but the moment is part of why specifically I love this song. You have this somber opening with this really neat pipe sound in the back, and this plucking noise (I think it's a harp? I'm not sure) with a deep, almost empty flute. It gives you the emotion of what Zidane is feeling. And then the guitar and the synth comes in, and it feels stronger. The choir comes in, and it gets even stronger. These are his friends! This is the backing of strength he needs! The song makes itself more powerful with friendship!!! aaaaaaaa!!!!

1. Over the Hill I swear to god. Uematsu was doing something magical with all of the PS1 overworld themes. All 3 of them made their respective lists. Over the Hill is my absolute favorite Final Fantasy overworld theme in the entire series; I could honestly listen to this song for hours. The quiet boops in the background with a slow synth violin playing like the wind across the fields, then one of the main melodies of the game playing with a really cute synth piano. The song builds up more and more, with more layers dancing with each other; a little guitar, a pan flute, a horn, some shakers and quiet percussion, and another dream-like wind instrument playing as well. This might just be me, but when I think of every part of this song, I think of the main cast of characters, each instrument being one of them, and all of them together creating something more than what they are individually. I swear to god dude I'm honestly tearing up right now listening to this song and writing my feelings down that's what this does to a motherfucker

We're doing a second fucking paragraph for this song alone. Listen to the Dissidia version too. It keeps that same magical feeling that IX has, but throwing some heavier noises in there, befitting of the fighting game that it's in, with a quiet droning guitar playing in the background intensifying this soft ass song but also making it really work??? It's incredible. The other song that I'm plugging in here because they share the same leitmotif, is Melodies of Life, the credits theme. It takes that same main melody but makes it a vocal track. The reason I bring it up, is to me these songs are inseparable. When I listen to one I think of the other, and it lifts it even higher.

Honorable mentions go to the entire goddamn soundtrack, but if I had to pick a list; Oeilvert (which was so close to making it onto the list you have no idea), Battle 2, Festival of the Hunt, Quina's Theme, Black Mage Village, Iifa, the Ancient Tree of Life, Aboard the Hilda Garde, Pandaemonium, Crystal World, The Darkness of Eternity, and Behind the Door. (yeah it's fucking bad man this entire ost is a masterpiece) (also shoutouts to The Sneaky Frog and the Scoundrel)

Updated favorite commissions as of Hoshi wo Tsunagu + general commission opinions

Ichika - Made to Order. Overall her commissions are fine, though I prefer the VS versions of both Pulse of the Meteor and Hoshi wo Tsunagu (the tuning man... the tuning). Still not the biggest fan of her

Saki - Teratera/Show Off. Commissions overall are great. Stella is a close second place for me; I prefer the VS version of From Tokyo; and Aioi made me cry, it's beautiful

Honami - Still very close between Stage of Sekai and Flyway. Not a huge fan of Hare wo Matsu, probably because I'm just not big on Orangestar. Then again I'm not super huge on halyosy and then we got Flyway and it blew me away so. Edge still goes to Stage of Sekai though

Shiho - Voices. Yuyoyuppe is one of my favorite producers. However, Shiho literally does not have a bad song. You could put any of hers in the top spot and it would be correct

Minori - Tenshi no Clover. Worldwide Wander is right behind it. Dream Place and Teammate are both fine, but the latter especially really isn't my thing. I'm not a huge HoneyWorks fan. My opinion on Dream Place may go up when the full version is released

Haruka - If. Ai no Material is dragged down by MEIKO, and Float Planner is fine. Don't have much to say about her, but I do hope her next song is better. Her commissions tend to be more just good rather than great imo

Airi - Momoiro Key. Icedrop and More! Jump! More! are also very good. Still don't like Parasol Cider. Something about it just annoys me and I don't know what. It's just not for me

Shizuku - It's between Metamo Re:born and I Am, We Are. Color of Drops is fine, and Luka's tuning is surprisingly good in it

Kohane - Hitsuji ga Ippiki. Very funky, very Kohane. Beat Eater is also fantastic, and I think I'm in the minority of people who actually genuinely like Flyer. It makes me happy

An - Gekokujo/Giant Killing (yes that is the official translated title at least according to Apple Music). So... this song and event leaked around the time of my grandmother's funeral. I'm still grieving the loss, but this song has helped so much. Awake Now and Machi are both fantastic, and Forward is fine, though I want more of the guys

Akito - Kashika. Can't wait for the full version in three weeks (as of posting this). Akito is like Shiho, though; you could put any of his commissions as the top one and they'd be right. Let's hope that continues

Toya - Rad Dogs. Still hasn't been topped. Mirai is good though, and I recognize why people like Utsuro wo Aogu, even though I still don't like it that much. Hoping this Hiiragi Magnetite commission is his and it's good

Tsukasa - Mr. Showtime. I do not like Tsukasa--or WxS, really--that much. It's the character voices that get me most of the time. However, HitoYama made a banger. I can't stand Tondemo Wonders because of the sound effects, and I prefer the VS version of Eighty-Eight

Emu - Hoshizora Orchestra. Yeah I'm revising my opinion there. I cried when I listened to it with the lyrics. Made me feel warm. Once Upon a Dream is criminally underrated, and Niccori Survey Team's Theme is rightfully loved

Nene - Hakoniwa no Coral. Hot take, this is her first good commission. I do not like OSTER Project or kinoshita much, so that really knocks down Nijiiro Stories and Glory Steady Go for me. I wanted to like Hoshizora no Melody so badly because I like Polypho, but I can't stand them speaking in rhythm rather than singing, and I think MEIKO's tuning is some of the worst in the game here

Rui - What Kind of Ending Do You Want? I honestly flip between his songs though. He's like Shiho and Akito; any of them ranked as the best is the right answer

Kanade - Samsa. Don't get me wrong, I love both Kanade Tomosu Sora and Tricologe. But... KAITO. And Teniwoha. But yeah you also can't go wrong with Kanade

Mafuyu - Engeki. This song. I cried. Enough said. Jackpot Sad Girl is one of the best early game songs, Saisei is criminally underrated, and while bug is overrated and overplayed, it earned that. You can't go wrong with any of her songs in my book, though I'm aware I'm in the minority there. Still don't get the hate for Saisei though

Ena - Nomad. Just... beautiful. But her other songs are also great and again you can't go wrong. Do you see a pattern here?

Mizuki - Kitty. So funky. I think you know what I'm going to say here based on the last three though. Also don't get the hate for kimi no yoru wo kure. Like, at all

Dunno why I haven't asked already (maybe I did and forgot) but if you had to pick which strive themes are your favorites and least favorites what would you go with? If you don't want to do the whole listing then maybe just a couple of standouts? I'd like to hear your opinion on stuff!

hey izzy i used this ask as an excuse to just listen to all the Strive themes for the first time in a while. So here's every character theme and my thoughts:

Find Your One Way: for the longest time I thought it was "own way" but whatever. Okay so this is where I put my cards on the table and say that Strive's overall kind of metal is kinda not my thing. Or at least it took a while for me to click with it since I still use the Rev2 soundtrack as a workout mix so I kinda have a bias. As such I think this song is fine but Give Me A Break is peak Sol so it just sounds to me like its trying to reach that same level and it. uh, doesn't for me. still cool though.

The Roar Of The Spark: and in a complete 180 from the previous song THIS ONE FUCKING ROCKS. Christian Hair Metal, fucking wonderful. From that keyboard intro, to that fucking sublime guitar solo, this one is so fucking good actually.

The Disaster Of Passion: In contrast to the metal (ironically enough) I adore Strive's "pop" themes. Every one of them makes me smile like a doopy dope. Seriously when May's trailer dropped I had "NONE. STOP. LOVE SONG!" on repeat in my head for like a month. So catchy. Really good drum work here also, underrated.

Out Of The Box: This song kinda passed me by honestly, so this was the first time I really sat down and listened to it all the way. Brit Rock can be hit or miss, but this is pretty fun! the Engrish is just bad enough that its really charming and the chill vibes fit Axl really well.

Play The Hero: You're saying this is the theme of a weeb? Never would have guessed. Okay real talk I fucking LOVE this one. Catchy, cheesy, uncomplicated Anime Butt Rock, if that doesn't describe Chipp Zanuff I don't know what does.

Armored-clad Faith: SOCIETY. YOUR SOCIETY. Okay meme-ing aside this one's great too. Gonna be honest though Bass Heavy Metal isn't really my cup of tea, but even despite that its still really catchy. Sometimes memes blind you to how good a song actually is. Chorus is the best part tho.

Alone Infection: To be honest this took a very long time to grow on me. Verging on Screamo didn't help it, and its honestly kinda weird. But hell, it did grow on me eventually. Not my favorite by any stretch but not bad.

Love the Subhuman Self: God what a banger and a half. If you don't sing along to the chorus there's something wrong with you. Also this is a song made in the current century that uses the phrase "bee's knees" in the wonderful way only people who don't speak English can manage. What a fucking miracle this song is, damn.

Let Me Carve Your Way: Bad news, horrible greasy shadow man has a pretty good theme he absolutely did not deserve. Tragic. Okay seriously this is pretty good, strong beat nice chorus and the end bit is nice contrast overall. Yeah its alright.

Necessary Discrepancy: Part of me still prefers Diva Of Despair, but this bangs so hard holy shit. From that weird ass electronic intro to the guitar and that climax, bro. Bro. Not my favorite but I'd say...third place.

Hellfire:

Ky:...Leo, I think you might be suffering with depression.

Leo: Depression!?!? What kind of nonsense are you spouting!?!? Can a guy with depression have a theme this rocking!?

Ky: Leo. Half of that song is you calling yourself a liar and hoping you die.

Seriously though another song I kinda slept on but its really good also can someone tie Leo to a chair and take him to a therapist? Thanks.

What do you fight for: Lesser than the sum of its parts. Like the chorus is good, the melody is nice, a few verses are cool. But its kind of a mess. There's a really nice solo, but it just kinda stuck a bit too early in the song for it to really built up to the climax properly. Crawl is better anyway.

Trigger: probably one of my least favorite, honestly. It just kinda meanders around without really coalesing into anything substantial and just like. refuses to pick up any momentum at all. it just changes itself up too often and its kinda tiring to listen to. Also the lyric "don't make a big deal out of me" is so ironic in hindsight when it turns out she contributed a big fat load of jack shit to the story mode of Strive. but that's a pile of meat that was once a horse I am kinda tired of beating so lets move on.

Rock Parade: MY FUCKING BOY IS DANCING AND IN LOVE. FUCKING LOOK AT HIM! God I love love love this one, so freaking good. It tells a story, its rocking, its catchy, and that that more gentle bit near the last third is so evocative. I always imagine him doing a fan dance during that part. Second favorite absolutely.

Requiem: Heavy Metal has always been I-No's signature sound and aesthetic, and mixing that with Alt Rock gives this one a pretty unique feel compared to her other themes. Midnight Carnival still stands on top as far as I-No themes go but this one ain't too shabby. Sick guitar solo, naturally.

Crawl: Intense, rocking, better than Nago's actual theme. Pretty gnarly boss theme.

The Kiss of Death: The only way to do good Industrial Metal is to go All In. And this song does that and then some. How the hell did this head banger get past me??? I'm genuinely baffled that a guy as big as Beef Dickinson managed to evade me for this long. Fuck yeah.

Perfection Can't Please Me: I really appreciate those call backs to Juno in this song since that one was one of my favorites in Xrd. Even with all my reservation with how the Aria plot got resolved I can't deny this song is a ton of fun. Though, hear me out, how fucking funny would it have been if they took Meet Again and remixed it into something this poppy?

Drift: My thoughts about this song are about the same as the thoughts I have about Happy Clappy himself. There are certainly things to like about this song, there are some really cool bits and riffs and the lyrics are cool, but it switches around so much its hard to really get attached to any one aspect of it. Like sometimes its really fun and bouncy, sometimes its rocking out, sometimes its pretentious because Chaos can't fucking help himself. I like it better than I did when it first came out, but still just kinda meh. The "Disney" bit still funny as all hell though.

Mirror of the World: Best song in the game. No. Zip! It is, no arguments will be accepted are entertained here. This song rocks, this song slaps, this song tells a story, not just the story Baiken is going through in Strive but her whole journey up till now. This song is soulful and harsh and beautiful and fucking everything. This isn't my Baiken Bias talking its just true don't argue with me just sit with me as we listen to Mirror of the World on loop for two hours and then You Will Understand.

Like a Weed, Naturally, as a Matter of Course: This song is just vibes honestly. A cool and smooth song about how just living for the sake of it is good enough, because if a weed can be why can't we? Also the pronouns getting changed every few words is like two steps away from screaming "THEY'RE NON-BINARY NOW PRETTY NEAT RIGHT?" and you know what that is neat.

The Town Inside Me: The most Song of all Trans. Seriously though this song is so much fucking fun. Probably my favorite "pop" theme of the three we have so far. Honestly it just feels like a complete, full song. Like you can just take this out of the game and play it on the radio it just feels like there's nothing missing here its awesome. Personally though, the thing I like the most in this song is how triumphant it is by the end. Bridget is out of the box and she ain't going back in, and she is glowing.

The Hourglass: His Xrd theme was honestly just okay so I was more open to give this one a fair shake. And honestly? Pretty fun! Nothing really major to say here except that it's peppy, positive, energetic, and has a nice strong sound to it. So, Sin, basically.

The Circle: I really, really wanted to like this song. I listened to it a few more times and I just. Can't connect with it. It's like Drift in that there's a lot of different things going on and also like Drift nothing really comes together here. I saw a post mocking people who don't like this song as people who only like music with wide appeal and to that person firstly fuck off with the gatekeeping and secondly just because a song has complex things going on or messes with the time signature doesn't automatically make it good and I just don't like this song because its a damn mess that barely coheres into something a bit more solid by the end but only just barely. Delilah deserves to be her own character if only so she can get a proper fucking song out of it.
