Here is my tentative timeline with all the webisodes in chronological order.

Within series canon at least I think it’s right, I’m going to have to watch it in order to make sure there’s nothing out of place.

The next step is adding the books + diaries which I think will mean shuffling around the order.

You might be thinking that that won’t work because the books conflict and are a different timeline. But there’s a perfectly good explanation for that … I just haven’t thought of it yet.

WTW Relationships Week | Love Interest

Vlad Draculea | Former Voivode of Wallachia | Member of the House of Drăculești

She was twenty when she laid eyes on him. Her father’s family had thrown a ball in honor of her visit, and it was an open invitation. She met with nobles from England, France, Ireland, and Scotland, as her family had ties to all of them, but none impressed her. She’d resigned herself to simply observing the party when an exceedingly tall and distinctly foreign-looking man approached her. He was pale, with beautiful blue eyes and long black hair, wearing a black suit and red cravat, with a red overcoat. His voice was deep and smooth, and his accent was thick. When he spoke to her, his tone was soft and he was humble, as if he knew he was undeserving of her presence. He got down on one knee and bowed, then asked her if he might have the honor of a dance. She had smiled and told him to rise, then offered her hand, granting his request. He took it and brought it to his lips, before leading her to the center of the room. They danced for the rest of the night, talking between breaks in the music and song changes. 

They married after a month of courting. Her family was delighted and relieved, though he was not who they imagined for a son-in-law. She was happy, happier than she had ever been, and it showed. He was devoted and worshipped her like she was a queen, or a goddess. They spent their newlywed years in his castle in Romania, but visited her family in Paris with frequency. They were exceedingly happy, and even though the castle was far too big for two people, it felt like home. 

He told her the truth a month into their marriage. She had always suspected, always known something was different about him, but to hear it said aloud was something else entirely. 

“So, you are a vampire.” she said, standing next to her boudoir, looking at him as he sat on the edge of their bed. 

“Yes, I am.” Vlad affirmed, then bowed his head, avoiding her gaze. “I am sorry I did not tell you before, and that if it were not for the guilt, I would never have told you.” he admitted. 

Rose tapped her fingers on the furniture’s surface, then shrugged. “So what?” 

“I beg your pardon?” Vlad raised his head, looking at her in bewilderment. 

“So what if you are a vampire? Why should that matter?”

“I… I feed on the blood of humans to survive. I am a creature of the night, an abomination of nature. A product of a deal with the Devil.” 

Rose shrugged again, arms now folded. “So what?” she asked again, walking towards him. “So what if you drink the blood of humans? So what if you are a creature of the night? So what if you are an abomination of nature? So what if you are a product of a deal with the Devil?” 

Vlad blinked at her. “You…. You do not care?” 

“Of course I don't care.” Rose replied, now only a few inches away from him. She took his hands and offered a small smile. “You're my husband, and I love you.” she leaned down and kissed his cheek, thumbs stroking the tops of his hands. “Besides, do you really think I would've married you without even considering the possibility that you weren't quite normal?” 

“You knew? All this time, you knew?” 

“I had my suspicions. And there were… incidents, shall we say.” 

Vlad winced. He knew what she was talking about. “I am sorry for those. I never meant for you to see.”

“Don’t be. The world's not going to end if I don't wear silver.” Rose assured. She studied his face for a moment, trying to see if there was something in his features, a telltale sign of vampirism, that she had missed all the others times she'd looked at him. “Vlad, let me see your eyes.” 

“You are seeing them.”

Rose rolled her own at that remark. “Let me see your real eyes. I know they have not been naturally blue for a long time.” She took a seat sideways in his lap and wrapped her arms around his neck, waiting patiently to see if he would oblige. 

Vlad closed his eyes and inhaled deeply, then squared his shoulders and exhaled slowly. When he opened his eyes, they were a startling shade of red. “There.” 

Rose stared at the color in awe, a delighted grin on her lips. “How beautiful.” she murmured, her hands moving to cup his face. Thumbs brushed the top of his upper lip, and she laughed softly when his tongue flicked out and licked the digit. 

“Beautiful?” Vlad repeated, withdrawing his tongue. “I stand before you, a monster, a creature of the night, and yet…” 

“And yet I want to be like you.” Rose smiled, lowering her hands to his shoulders. “Will you change me?”

“Absolutely not.” Vlad straightened up, bristling at the mere thought. 

“Aw, why not?” Rose pouted, looking a bit like a child who had been told they couldn't have the toy or treat they wanted. 

“Because it's a curse, Rose.” Vlad sighed, rubbing her back. 

Rose ran her fingers through his long hair, affection in her eyes as she gazed at him. “My love, you are worth any curse. You are worth any sin. You are worth a ‘deal with the Devil’. You are worth it all.” she smiled, pausing the movement of her hand. “You are my life, Vlad, and I will follow you anywhere.” 

“Even into the deepest, darkest pits of Hell? To the end of the Earth? Into battle?” Vlad asked, his hand cupping her neck. 

“Yes.” Rose answered, placing her hand over the one he had on her neck. “You can pose as many scenarios as you like, but my answer will always be the same.”

day 9; candy corn ↳ Tell us how you chose the title for your WIP.

The thing to know about me is that I cycle through titles like a washing machine, so Burning of the Apiary might not be the final title. That being said, I chose it because symbolically it reflects on the themes well, I think, especially regarding burning down the old, starting with a clean slate, and the feelings of the protagonist toward the end of the novel.

day 10; witch ↳ Write or brainstorm the opening paragraph.

Notes: Dolores’ mother dies, leaving her with no ties to her home or the land around her. She dies after a particularly rough winter, one full of floods and poor crops and a sickness that swept the valley. Dolores believes the valley is diseased, so she leaves it for the safety of an isolated convent.

day 11; bats ↳ How would your WIP change if a minor character became the protagonist?

For this exercise, I decided to view the story from the point of view of Abadesa/Abbess Ana Isabel, and realized wow it would change a lot. The reason for this is that the Abbess is a minor character because she’s got her own plot going on, technically separate from the main plot, though it is related. From her perspective, she would be less focused on the cult and the well-being of the students (though she tries to remember to ask about them), and she would be more focused on the eerie premonitions that haunt her. Bad news for her, though, because if she’d paid a little more attention to her students, she might have figured out what her visions were trying to tell her to prevent.

Ana Isabel - Anna comes from the Hebrew Channah, which means “favor” or “grace.” Isabel is derived from the English Elizabeth, which itself is a derivative of the Greek form of the Hebrew name Elisheva/Elisheba. Means “my god is an oath.”

Adriana - Feminine form of Adrian, which is derived from Hadrianus, a Roman cognomen that meant “from Hadria.”

Thanks to work and having limited access to certain places, I don’t have a favorite place to write. Basically anywhere I can get decent wifi and focus on writing is the best place for me. When I was a student, I often wrote either in my dorm room when no one was around or in the library. Now, I typically write at home, sometimes at work (when I can sneak onto Google Docs) and wherever I go. I’ve even written during a road trip. Fun fact: the year I won NaNo with Saintless, I was writing in the car on my laptop as someone else drove lol.

A short description of the convent from my WIP notion: The Abbey of the Sacred Heart is a small, isolated religious school located in the high mountains.. Girls of all ages and from across the country attend the convent’s school to become proper ladies. It is a combination finishing school and temple to the Mother. Sacred Heart is known for its apiaries and sweet honey, the latter which is used as a source of revenue and sustenance for those who live there.

day 15; black cat ↳ Flesh out your antagonist: Who are they? What are they? What do they want?

Highlights: The antagonist is Sor Adriana. She is second in command to the Abbess and oversees the school. She is also one of the last nuns to have joined this convent and stayed. Her main goal is to serve the Mother, and her surrogate mother, the Abbess. With an unwavering devotion to her deity and the woman who oversees the convent, she is willing to do anything to please them.

Using the one I pitched for another server.

On the same day that the Valley’s eligible debutantes arrive for their first term at convent school, a young woman arrives begging to be taken as a novitiate prospect. Isolated and far from home, the young woman has no choice but to befriend the seemingly vapid group. But as she develops feelings for the top debutante, something dark lurks in the corners of the abbey. The Valley’s daughters have brought their world of secret societies with them, and soon, the novitiate may be forced to choose between destroying them or succumbing to the terrifying, yet seductive, realm of the elite.

October 23, 2077 (wait, is it 24th already? hard to keep track of time here; nah, couldn’t have been here more than ten hours)

Are you fucking kidding me?

Yeah, how’s that for a first line? Well, it was gonna be my last. Not bad as famous last words go, but there wasn’t anyone nearby to take it down, so I figured I’d stick around. Shame to die without an audience and let a good line go to waste. 

The mushroom cloud in my window made for one hell of a backdrop, though. The oranges and the blacks, all swirling together, like a sunrise, but more badass. Except, you know, sunrises usually signify beginnings, whereas this one… yeah. Still pretty, though. And you thought there were no upsides to being in the office at 6 a.m. 

It wasn’t a total surprise. Like, I couldn’t actually believe it till I saw it—hell, I don’t think I believe it now, even. But I knew it was coming. Got a 30-minute warning like the rest of the city. Didn’t run for the hills like the rest of the city, though. ‘Cause there weren’t any hills I cared to run for. None I could reach in half an hour, anyway.

Okay, whoever’s reading this, I don’t expect you’ll ever get a say in designing a nuclear strike early warning system, but I’m gonna tell you this anyway. 30 minutes is a really, really shitty warning period. Not enough time to get anywhere you might wanna get to, and way too much time to think. To wish you were somewhere else. Like, say, a suburban two-bedroom with a Vac-Evac link. 30 minutes to really appreciate what an idiot you were to stay at the office, stay in the city, stay optimistic, stay hopeful, stay invested in the idea that there was a shred of reason left in the collective humanity ‘cause c’mon, it’s all just talk, they’re not actually gonna do it, humans have scraps, always have done, always will have, but they’re NOT actually gonna blow up the fucking world, c’mon, what kind of FUCKING IDIOTS would actually, ACTUALLY do something like that??

Anyway. 30-minute warning is bullshit. Put that into your feedback form and smoke it.

Hokay, I already know this isn't gonna be a fun update :P

TL:DR: I'm taking a sorta hiatus from writeblr. Basically a hiatus except for a couple of events at the end of November/beginning of December, and FebruarOC. No clue when I'll be back.

Longer version:

If you've been around here for any NaNo season since 2020, you may have noticed something weird happening, aka I stopped posting daily snips, and stopped giving excuses for it after the first two times. It was just a lotta hitting roadblocks with Knighttime Dreams and not wanting to push myself into writing something I'd be okay with sharing, and then falling out of the habit by the time I was writing stuff I'd be okay with sharing.

Which is probably because of the mild/major problem I've been having for at least the last year where me and actually writing down the shit I've plotted in my head have not been getting along. At All. And it really fuckin sucks! I took a break after last year's NaNo and after FebruarOC, and that didn't seem to do shit, and I tried writing every day and that still didn't do much (tho the fact I stopped when I went on vacation probably didn't help, but also. they were contextless snips. I like writing those, but there's a difference between that and Actually Plotted Shit), so. yeah. I dunno.

So yeah. Gonna step back from writeblr and make it official this time rather than just vanishing. I'll still be lurking as usual, I might try and fill some of the Find the Word tags and other assorted not-last-line tags I have sitting around, but I'm gonna be pretty quiet in terms of my own stuff. I'll do my usual NaNo roundup at the end of the month, I wanna do some Spotify Wrapped drabbles again, I have a thing planned for Dec 1 that I've been looking forward to since like... July, and I'm gonna come back for FebruarOC bc if I want it to become a widespread writeblr thing then goddammit I gotta do it myself (also it's fun. I'm not just doing it outta obligation lmao it's just a longer form of the contextless snips), but yeah. Other than planned events that I'm actually hella excited about despite this burnout/whatever the fuck my brain is doing to me, I'm just gonna dip for a while. Can't say when I'll be back for good, I don't wanna make promises and then feel bad when I can't keep them.

I'll be hanging around Discord tho, with my usual level of lurking/occasionally popping in for a comment, so in order of my likelihood to engage, you can still find me in CANS, North Haven, or WTW. I have channels in all those servers and I've been using the CANS one more for stuff that hasn't made it to tumblr, so uh. If you really wanna keep up with my writing you might have better luck there lol

I just found the event and I'm several days back, so I'll try to be brief. I'll be using my WIP The trees don't let you see the forest because I think it's the one I'd like to try for NaNoWriMo and the aesthetics fit with the season.

It tells the story of a young witch cursed with blindness due to a failed spell and her journey to find the way to reverse it, aided by friends, fought by foes, and realizing the might be more important things than getting her sight back. It will be a challenge to write using every sense but vision! I have written the synopsis here, if you are interested. Yeah, I should probably do an official WIP intro.

Right now, without having planned much, I choose Mauve. She's the secret keeper and sooner or later the past catches up with everyone.

Let's just try the first scene so we can compare what I plan with what will later come up:

1. Juniper wakes up and sees nothing. Elowyn is there tending to her wounds. Crying, stress, oops she messed up so bad, she can't be a Sun Sage anymore. But she deserves it, and Mauve, her mentor, lets her know. Periwinkle, the cat, is silently judging June so hard she can feel it.

2. Laurel comes in, distraught because he played a part in the situation (unknowingly??). Maybe he argues with Elowyn and Mauve because of inner guilt + they accuse him. But June crashes against something and they focus on stopping her from falling head-first into a boiling pot.

3. Same scene or after some struggles?? Mauve (or Periwinkle, why not) mentions the Wildfire Hollyhock, the burnt lands, and the town there, but doesn't tell what happened in those cursed places.

4. June wants to go, Laurel joins, and Elowyn is told by Mauve to go with them because she is the BEST. There are obvious reactions. Witchy stuff.

5. I'm bad at this.

There is a flower that only blooms after wildfires. The seeds lay dormant under the surface until the soil is burnt and then they sprout. They don't last long, just enough for bees to pollinate them and drop seeds which will stay dormant until they are awakened.

🧄Vampire - Tell us where you find inspiration or motivation.

This is what I struggle with the most (along with planning).

Inspiration comes in dreams, random shower thoughts, a single word in an extensive paragraph, Pinterest aesthetics, little things I see in my daily life, name generators (that I never end up picking), and simple things. Like, "Oh, this would be fun to write about."

Motivation uh, comes when my brain hyperfixates on an idea. And reading. Reading lots.

💀Skeleton - Have a favorite plot structure? If not, share how you plot.

I have no idea how I plot. Usually, I start writing and let the story take me where it needs to go (yeah, there's lots of editing later). I get ideas on the go, maybe a whole scene, and I add it to my evergrowing list of ideas waiting for the auspicious moment when it comes into play. Somehow, I managed to be very cohesive, though. And I surprise myself with how everything seems to flow as if I had previously planned it.

🍬Trick or Treat - Set some writing goals and milestones for your WIP.

This crashes a bit with the last answer, but I really really want to be more disciplined and focused. I just want to manage to plot the story and get to the NaNoWriMo final milestone. Let's do it!!

So yeah, I have been listening to the current season of Within the Wires, and I’ve poked the tag a little now and then, and there’s just one thing that’s nagging at me a little: a few people putting Elena’s scavenger hunt at the same level of boundary-overstepping as Hester’s tapes or even Freya’s bullshit and... no? It’s not even close?

Look. However good Hester’s intentions were, Oleta was literally a captive audience so yeah, I absolutely get the discomfort about that. Freya... might have had an actual good intention in there somewhere but she sold her whole Cradle AND HER OWN KID!!! out for martyr points--or, given how unreliable a narrator she was, she very well could have dropped a dime on the Hedmark Cradle as part of a deal to save her own ass. Either way, that was so far out of the average WTW narrator’s creepster behavior league it’s not even the same game, y’all.

So on a scale of “well-intentioned attempt to save childhood friend from horrible experiments”  to “sell out your own daughter for martyr points or maybe just to save your own ass” where, IMO, does Elena fall? 

Pretty fucking low, my dudes. Like... just because of Oleta being a literal captive audience and Anita presumably out in the world living her life and free to do what she wanted about a strange tape showing up, I’d even say she’s lower on the creeper scale than Hester.

Elena would have sent one tape directly to Anita. Which, sure, would have required enough stalker behavior to know where to send it. But the rest were scattered all over the world. Anita would have had to decide, for herself, whether or not to follow the trail and how far to follow it. At any point in this scavenger hunt, Anita could have said “hmm no I think I have had enough of this” and gone home. For all we know, she could have listened to that first tape, went “hmm no thank you” and tossed the whole box in the trash and gone on with her life. For all we know, she might not have even listened to that first tape. 

(Hell, for all we know, Elena might have made all the tapes at home, died before she even made it to Miami, and all of them could have been sitting there unheard and gathering dust all this time but for our purposes here I’m going to assume Anita at least received the first tape)

(ETA: ...rrrrrright yes Elena also clearly engaged in enough stalker behavior to know some details about Anita’s life, like, shit she would have had to put effort into finding out. That’s definitely Weird but given what we now know about her motives and the fact that, you know, unlike Rose, she wasn’t given the Potion of Don’t Get Attached To Your (Wife’s) Kid honestly I... can’t really blame her for being interested and also she doesn’t insert herself into Anita’s life to act on anything she’s learned, just... leaves one tape Anita might or might not choose to listen to)

Of course we’re coming up on the season finale and as we know all kinds of bombs get dropped in WTW season finales but going by what we know Elena’s scavenger hunt is, so far, pretty benign as far as WTW Narrator Stalker Behavior goes.

I think it’s normal to wanna take a break from WTW she has done so many of them maybe she just wants to do some different things. Or maybe the WTW contracts/plans were all arranged way earlier this year when she was still dating someone in LA and she had been planning to spend more time at home next year before they broke up. I remember her posting about being sad to leave and go back to the Vegas show. Or maybe she’ll be doing the Vegas show instead of WTW. Or another all stars shore season! That was filmed in the fall i think? OR maybe Shanjie’s giving her the dancing with the stars hookup! I would LIVE!! Or maybe she is trying to kill us all and will do another season of her dating show haha

I LOVE that she’s gonna be in biancas movie im so ready for her movie career era!

They put the gay sex ed episodes up as podcasts. I would loveeeee if they started it as an actual podcast and did weekly eps. I know there’s been speculation on whether she liked being on youtube haha but she should totally start a youtube channel like trixie and laganja. She has so many fans and would be really entertaining to watch in a vlog format.

I do think she seems to be kinda spiralling out in her personal life since the break up like posting cryptic post and deletes and posting with random guys who she’s all over and then they never show up again, being quiet on social media and posting memes about sadness and circling back to the same ru girls she flirts with publicly when she wants to make a scene like brooke and aquaria. But a lot of people are like that after break ups, and maybe she’s still getting over it since it was very sudden.

It makes me kinda sad for her cause she seemed really calm and happy in the relationship for the couple weeks we saw it, I think being in a relationship was good for her? This was one of her best years yet career wise moving into mainstream on all star shore, having her own WOW show, and even her boy looks glowed up but also the look and performance of her drag really elevated this year. (I am actually gonna kinda credit that to jack - sorry jack haters haha - not directly but i think you can really see beyonce influences on vanjies look and performance style this year and i bet it comes from the person she was closest to all year being obsessed with beyonce. I know V liked beyonce too before she met him and had used her songs before but even aside from him probably sharing videos and stuff that might have inspired V i can totally see V making it her mission to embody the qualities the icon the guy she loves is a huge fan of so that he’ll be impressed by her just as much, you know?)

I have been wondering if she would go on all stars next year. That would be cool! But i also want her to wait until she’s fully ready to go in there and tear it up and have an amazing redemption arc and leave no crumbs. Now that she seems kinda distracted by her personal life maybe it’s not the best time to go on until her life is more stable. Unless she wants to give us another drag queen romance season haha. But i would actually love for her to have a really professional season where she is charming but that’s not her main storyline she also slays the looks and challenges u know??

I would love to see her happily settled in a relationship again too. She’s never made it a secret that it’s something she wants and I really do think it’s a good look on her and brings out her best qualities like her charm and sweetness. And I think having that steadiness and support will help her achieve bigger and bigger things in other areas of life. I know she has her mom and friends but most of her friends are performers and creatives too and busy with their own lives, so I doubt they see each other that often. She’s so used to touring and being away herself I wouldn’t be surprised if on a normal night in LA she doesn’t have many people to hang out with. I think it would be good for her to have someone who’s her person who she can rely on and will be around for her a lot of the time. (And hopefully talk her out of things like face tattoos! Haha)

Whatever 2023 has in store I hope she does some cool things! And doesnt get more face tattoos!! Haha. And that we’re ready for whatever she does next to gag us! (I’m probably not! Hahaha)

A look at something I wrote every month in 2021. All of the above excerpts can be read in order at this link, and I've included a few notes below on the pieces and months in question. It feels as though I spent so much of my time writing for Patreon and editing Forest Castles and so on, but there was still a lot of fresh content every single month!

JANUARY - In Her Arms (unpublished)

COVID's been pretty bad, hasn't it? I think it's been pretty bad. Wrote this piece almost a year ago now to deal with it, and have workshopped it several times since. Eventually I'll get a version I'm happy with, and then you'll see it published!

FEBRUARY - KAY Valentine's Drabble 2 (read online)

I made sure to come up with something to post for Valentine's Day 2021-- a cute little moment between Kay/Atlas, and then Constantine/Julia. Still warms my heart to read over this... that transphobic dad of Kay's isn't always completely useless!

MARCH - mortālēs (unpublished)

I've had a lot of ideas for erotica this year (all excerpts here are SFW!) but haven't managed to post them yet-- I'd probably put them on a separate NSFW writing blog, as I've mentioned before. Well, here's one, inspired by my sudden apparent interest in historical m/f.

APRIL - Silvia (unpublished)

While in the car on the way to a more wintry setting, I listened through the entire Miike Snow self-titled album, and was struck by a sudden intrigue caused by this song. Here was something out of the box, intense, explosive in its unrequited emotion. I could see it all playing out in my head, so clearly I knew I was coming up with a 'true' narrative totally disconnected from the original... but, no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't set it to paper. I'm going to let it percolate.

MAY - Forest Castles (first two chapters)

Again, I did edit FC year-round, so I only displayed it here in months where I honestly couldn't find any other new writing (probably hiding in the depths of my Drive.) This was a fun scene to write, though who knows if it'll survive later cuts.

JUNE - THE LOVER RISES FROM THE ABYSS・恋人が黄泉から生えてくる (read online)

I wrote this flash piece in either early June or late May, and then I was stuck revising it for quite a while. You can read about the process of that on Patreon! I worried over it until I felt it couldn't be worried over one second more... and then I edited it as I posted it on Tumblr ^__^

JULY - Something Weird I Heard About Rebecca (available in BLOOD&BREATH zine)

I wrote this so long ago! And, honestly, I expected to spend even longer editing and submitting it, but when the Blood & Breath submission form came around, I knew it was perfect. Preorder the LGBT vampire zine before January 5th to read the story in beautiful, physical form!

AUGUST - Forest Castles (first two chapters)

Day One Hundred And Seventeen Billion: Eliza Is Still Stuck In White Castle. To be fair, though, I remember when I thought I'd never reach White Castle! I hit quite a block around here, which I am still unsnarling, and I like that I've chosen to lean much harder into Eliza's princess nature.

SEPTEMBER - WTWBingo drabbles (read online)

Oh, God, what a timesuck! In addition to The Death of The Author (more shortly), in joining the WTWBingo event, I found myself tormented by hundreds of ideas for drabbles! Thanks so much to the WTW folks for inspiring me to write 10,000 words of these stories.

OCTOBER - The Death of the Author (read online)

I love Halloween. I love Halloween writing, and I love Halloween Episodes. More than all of that, though, I love murder mysteries, and so I am thrilled to present to you, with no further context whatsoever, The Death of the Author.

NOVEMBER - The Proposal (unpublished)

More erotica, with an eerie amount of people waiting on it. Very, very simple romcom MILF nonsense, which apparently is not only a thing I can write but something other people might want to read. I absolutely loved this piece, and it was responsible for my incredible 8K start on Day One of NaNo.

DECEMBER - Exhaustively (read online)

Exhaustively's had a big edit, and I'm now formatting it to release in limited edition paperbacks, in honor of beloved Archivist Max @goose-books! I highly recommend taking a look at it in this graphic (instead of just in the transcribed version) for full formatting joy. Also, I wrote 10,000 words in a day... but that didn't make it in here.

Man, was I prolific this year! I really enjoyed my writing, and I explored all sorts of artistic nooks and crannies (as Patrons especially will appreciate, what with all the experiments and behind-the-scenes things posted to Patreon this year. Fun Patreon surprise coming for free shortly...)

I also spent a lot of time on non-writing writing things, such Exhaustively's formatting, and, well, this Year in Review! I tried to show myself how much of my work wasn't just sitting and writing but reading and thinking and promoting and posting, and I think it worked... though I do miss just-plain-writing this week, as I wrap up all these New Yearly loose ends.

This upcoming year, I want to work more steadily on Forest Castles. It's hard to fit in with all my other priorities, especially when I don't have too much time to write a day. Do I need to set aside an amount of time daily to get it done, or is it better to dedicate full days? That's something I am still exploring.

WTW GHOST GALA ; days 1-8

a review of all this week's prompts!

day 1; pumpkin carving ↳ You have to kill off a character; who do you choose?

Without getting into spoilers, certain characters die within Burning of the Apiary. Seems unfair to use them to answer this prompt, and not just because they’re spoilers, but because it just feels too easy. I already accounted for the impact of their deaths in the plot so…

That being said, if I had to make another character die or swap one death out for the other, it would be Camila. Out of all the side characters, she represents life the most. She is fun-loving, and generally optimistic, which would make her death all that more bleak. That and, out of all the characters, she is least invested in the actual plot and mystery, happy enough to keep out of the whole issue. It certainly would affect Dolores a lot, since she is doing her best throughout Burning of the Apiary to keep the rest of the convent school safe from whatever is slowly poisoning their minds and relationships.

day 2; raven ↳ Create a tagline for your WIP.

Love the sinner.

I couldn’t think of a tagline at first, but then I remembered the whole Christian saying of “love the sinner, hate the sin” or whatever it is. I grew up Catholic, though this was never explicitly said; just implied. And it made me reflect on some personal things where that sort of ideology was present and the disastrous effects it had years down the line, especially when it comes to love in all forms. I thought it would be fitting for Burning of the Apiary because, ultimately, it’s about love and its destructive nature when tied to ideologies like that. In world, the religion might not be Catholicism, but it’s still highly dogmatic and devotion based.

day 5; jack o' lantern ↳ Share an interesting fact you found while doing research for your WIP.

While researching bees, I found out that there is a type of moth that acts as a predator/invasive species to bees. The wax moth, both lesser and greater, eats beeswax, pollen, remains of larval bees, and more. However, the most interesting fact is that they often only target hives that are already diseased or declining. They’re a great indicator of underlying problems in a bee colony.

I thought this was cool and they may or may not make an appearance in Burning of the Apiary.

day 6; vampire ↳ Tell us where you find your motivation and inspiration.

I find most of my inspiration from other types of media I consume, including movies, tv shows, and, of course, books. Even photos and the rare hike I take give me inspiration. I think part of being a creative person is finding inspiration anywhere and everywhere, and that’s very true with me.

Burning of the Apiary is one of those WIPs I’ve had on the backburner for a while, and I’ve tried writing it several times. The original inspiration was a mix of a few dreams I had written down and Coraline. Since then, it’s evolved to pull more inspiration from the classic gothic novels I read (and loved) in high school college, most notably Villette and Jane Eyre, along with Guillermo del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth and Crimson Peak, mixed with whatever I find cool and want to throw in there.

day 7; skeleton ↳ Have a favorite plot structure? If not, share how you plot!

My way of plotting is sort of throwing things and seeing what sticks. I tend to get ideas very piecemeal and random –– a scene or piece of dialogue or character. This can make it difficult to plot sometimes, which is why my outlines tend to be written, rewritten, and then usually tweaked even during the writing process.

I’ve tried several plot structures, like the 3-Act, 7-Act, and Save the Cat method. None of them quite worked out for me, but I took pieces here and there to figure out a general plot, or at least plan major beats and fill in everything in between. Knowing the genre is always the most important for me, though, since certain plot points are “standard” for genres (and for good reason). Plus, the better I know the genre, the easier it is to choose what rules actually apply to my WIPs. For Burning of the Apiary, I definitely researched and read a lot of horror and mystery novels to familiarize myself with genre-plot conventions and beats (and also found some new favorites). It’s been fun and I’ll be using that to figure things out!

the overall goal for Burning of the Apiary is about 80-90k, so I am trying to get at least half of that done during NaNoWriMo. we'll see.

WTW BINGO - ROYALTY

Dear, whoever finds this next.

I am pleased to report that today was a good day. A fantastic one in fact. One where everything went right, and nothing went wrong.

The world turning upside down couldn't ruin my mood right now. Nothin could, because I feel so far above it all.

Elation. Is that the word I'm looking for? If dad were still awake, he'd probably know.

He usually does.

On the topic of him, though. He plays a very big part in why my day turned out the way it did. As usual. Everything we do, we do together.

Today was no different.

I suppose I'm wasting page space, though. Talking up a storm about how absolutely wonderful my day's been without actually writing down what happened. There's just so much I want to say, I don't know what to do with it all.

The words spill out of me, almost beyond my control.

I should stop myself. Refrain? Refrain myself.

The day itself is more than worth the page space it'll take up. Otherwise I wouldn't be writing any of this to begin with.

Although, maybe the unimportant days deserve more space to speak as well…

I'll ask dad in the morning, over breakfast.

Till then, I'll be content writing about today's events. Something that definitely is important, at least to me.

It all started out with breakfast, as any day does.

Today, however, instead of our normal routine of frozen pastries. One that is, as dad would put it, easy and reliable. We had eggs and bacon. Toast with butter and jam.

It was nice. Different.

Almost like how it used to be. Before-

It was a good breakfast. Really good. And it was then that I knew today was going to be different from a lot of our other days.

I was right, too.

Because today, instead of studying or research, long hikes in the woods, dad suggested we take a break. If you can believe it.

I almost didn't.

Because as much as I enjoy what we do, I'm pretty sure he enjoys it twice as much. The discovery of the unknown, the creation of new things. Those are things he passed down to me out of love.

So, to hear that instead of exploring the woods for new life, or reading another long, boring book, he wanted to relax? That still shocks me, if I'm being entirely honest.

(Something I'm trying to be more of. Lying is a bad habit, no matter how beneficial it might be.)

Still, I would've felt stupid to say no to such an opportunity. Especially when it opened a door to things I've yet to have time to do.

Things like finally make use of the crowns that I created. Wire and those little plastic gemstones. Paper and glitter. They aren't anything like Sally and her one arm, or Robert the bear, but they're creations nonetheless, and I'm very proud of them.

Four crowns. Enough for each of us to rule over a kingdom of our own making. Just like I did once when I was younger. At some girl's birthday party. Though I can't remember her face or her name, I can remember the elation the game brought.

How I really did feel like royalty, for those few hours.

I wanted to know if that was a feeling I could have again, I think. Or if those memories were just that, and I was going to be stuck reliving them in order to feel something different.

Not that the life I live now feels bad, of course. It's just-

Things used to be different. And I don't know if I wish they were different again or not. If I'm really happy with the way things are now, or if I've just settled.

These are the kinds of things I try not to dwell on. They just make me feel bad, and I don't like feeling that way.

Not if I don't have to.

Which is why it's a good thing that I can report, the feeling of royalty was not one I'd be unable to obtain. Quite to opposite, in fact.

Though our tea party was really much the same as it always had been, there was something about the way we went about it. Something about the energy around us. It was different. It was bright and fun and-

My dad smiled today. More than he has in a while, actually.

Crowns glittering atop our heads, I really did feel like a princess. f not just for a few more hours.

It felt good.

I was happy.

I should probably stop writing, and go to bed. Unless I plan to stay up till the sun rises, and sleep through the day like some nocturnal animal.

So, for now, I say goodnight to whoever reads this next.

Camp Nano Check-In; Week One

Date; July 1 - July 3

Projects; Mainly Saints and Sinners (title pending) and another personal project

Overall WC; 2293 words out of 25k

SaS WC; 1747* words out of ???

First week of nano is over! Admittedly I didn't get as much done as I might have because this week I also finished one of my summer courses so I was pretty much brain dead for most of the week. But I did write something down once everday this week which is pretty good. I'll be doing these weekly progress reports/check-ins to keep myself accountable, so keep on the look out if you guys are interested <3

Outside of the wtw server I haven't really talked about Saints and Sinners. And that's because I haven't introduced it....because I got this idea literally a couple days before Camp Nano started and it wouldn't leave me alone. So instead of working on WCTD, TSDNBU, or rotating between other shelved projects, I decided to just jump right on in to SaS with 0 plans. Ok maybe like 0.25% of a plan.

*Total words written for SaS is probably a lot higher but I switched POVs from 1.5 to 2nd person midway through a chapter because I just...could not write in that POV, so I rewrote most of what I had.

You wake in the barracks with the scent of burning flesh in your lungs and the taste of ashes on your tongue. The words of a psalm are already forming on your mouth, ready to spill from cracked lips. Holy holy holy. Praise be to the gods. You lick your lips and wonder if this is how it felt when god feasted upon the flesh of their brethren.

The barracks are a dark and damp place. Quiet except for the smattering of snores from the other soldiers around him, lined up in thin cots, unaware that one of their own had been blessed by Diarum with a second chance.

You sit up, divesting yourself of your linen tunic to feel around your right shoulder. It is smooth. Clean. The pucker of the scar that plagued you in the past, gone.

The siege of Villon, then. That was where you were. But the siege had been going on for the better part of a year before She came, and so you were still at a loss as to exactly when you were. A whisper in the back of your mind assured you that She would come soon.

And you must be ready.
