OKay so based on the lighting and angle of the shot, the episode number looks like 1144 "Ernie gets thirsty". BUT the content described in the comments sounds like episode 207 where they talk about both fitting in the TV chair. the video I found on Youtube with the right KINEMASTER watermark was a YTP; and all comments in 'kid friendly' videos got nuked due to yt kids :( I only found like 2 videos that weren't scrubbed.

this anon prompted me to search my youtube history to see if i could find it in there, but. not only could i not find it, there are No sesame street fan vids in there at all? granted, i don't think i ever watched any more than once, but it's not like i paused my watch history or wiped any of them after i was done.

YT-DLP: Downloading YouTube Videos the Right Way

There are many YouTube downloaders, many of them awful, some functional, some free, some paid. But very few of them download the videos correctly and are as fully featured for the price of yt-dlp. It does everything you can think of to download video and more and it does it for free! (⁠ﾉ⁠*⁠0⁠*⁠)⁠ﾉ

You better get used to command line because yt-dlp has no GUI! It's frustrating, but it's what we got. I have made some scripts that you can copy-paste and edit. Making a functional script literally took me TWELVE HOURS STRAIGHT to figure out. This was due to people answering simple questions in forums and reddit posts being frustratingly obtuse, unwatchably annoying video tutorials, and me trial-and-erroring my way to success on a slow-as-fuck computer, BUT HEY we got there eventually! ಥ⁠‿⁠ಥ

For a simple download, this should get the job done:

The output files will be in the yt-dlp folder. There is an output command where you can choose where you put the videos, but I could not for the life of me figure it out and 12 hours straight of troubleshooting has left me broken and scarred. ¯⁠\⁠(⁠°⁠_⁠o⁠)⁠/⁠¯

yt-dlp is rife with options. Feel free to look through their commands list and figure out which one works best for you!

Also, yt-dlp works with many other websites besides YouTube! Newgrounds, Facebook, Twitter, news sites, Crunchyroll, p0rn sites; you name it, it's probably on there.

There is also an Android version called Seal 🦭

Thanks to its GUI, it works much more simply!

You could use an FTP server app to transfer downloads over WiFi to your computer in case command prompt shenanigans are too much for you. (It definitely was frustrating for me!)

'Zoomer' humour criticism

The problem I have with Zoomer humour is that it's just rebranded "dur!!! so random!!!" humor. There's nothing wrong with that, but people think they invented avant-garde, non-sequitor and just weird humour in general.

If you ever go to an old ytp, cringe comedy, skit or any weird humour video made in the 2000's or early 2010's, you'll see people going "this humour was ahead of it's time!" or "this is such 2020's humour". It's annoying because they think they invented or it's a modern thing. It's doubly annoying because some of these same zoomers were on the internet in the 2000s and 10s but they ignored that humor or just shat on it.

Like c'mon, a lot of Zoomer humour is just not that creative or straight up derivative.

As an artist, I think ai art is a very complex issue. Yes it can be used as a tool to advance creativity, but capitalism ultimately twists it so that it is not used ethically.

I like some ai generated memes. Its really funny to watch Joe Biden banter with Leon S Kennedy, or watch deepfakes of Preminger singing Lady Gaga. But I feel like the same humor could be achieved without the use of ai. You could splice together lines ala ytp or animate Preminger singing. It just requires more time and skill, and thats really the draw of ai. Ai helps a greater pool of people do things they normally couldnt do because it cuts out the work.

The capability to expand what people can do and create is good! I once followed a disabled person on tumblr who made ai art for personal use because his disability meant he couldn't draw. Ive also used ai art generators in the past, back when the results were super uncanny and whacky, to generate funny images or interesting eldritch horror-y art. If ai art wasn't built upon so much stolen art, that'd be a completely beautiful thing. Id love to donate my art to an ai program that only trains on explicitly donated work. I think thatd be really cool. But most people Ive seen making ai art and ai art generators are tech bros who only care about end results and money instead of appreciating the intent, technique, and artistry that artists pour into their work. And of course, not giving two shits about us getting paid.

Ive seen people make ai to intentionally copy the works of particular artists. It's almost indistinguishable from their art style, and to me, that feels insulting. These artists put so much work into their art, only for someone to churn out much more art in their style, and faster. Copying art you like has always been a thing among artists, to pay homage to creators and to learn new things by studying, but these ai art pieces that explicity train on an artists work and replicate their style feel... really hollow. Wheras among most artists, their replication comes from a place of respect and admiration, and requires truly learning and following the techniques an artist used, ai art just pulls from already existing assets with no real direction to guide it except a simple prompt. Theres no respect for the artist here, just someone who wants more of an artists work but doesnt actually care about the artist themself.

The amount of labor you need to create ai art vs regular art, and how ai art steals work from artists, is a discussion all on its own. This doesnt really have an easy black and white solution because of capitalism. In a world where we wouldnt need money to survive, it wouldnt really matter that ai art takes less effort to make because it wouldnt infringe on artists livlihoods. But as it is, and especially in our "quantity and familiarity over quality" consumerist culture, the attention it takes from artists can cause loss of revenue, and people offering ai art commissions only hurt artists more. The most popular areas of the internet already arent great platforms for artists, even though were forced to use them. Our culture doesnt really value our work, and most artists offer their work for ridiculously low prices just to sell anything at all. My pixel art commissions are $9. $9 for hours of sitting at my computer, working and shaping and reworking the pixels until theyre just right. Color, position, everything has a lot of time, care, and skill put into it. I wish I could charge double what I pay, but I have an extremely small platform, so Im forced to charge barely anything at all. If we did not need money to survive, it wouldnt be that big of a deal. But we do. So it is.

And as things stand, even disregarding the problem of capitalism, theres just too many harmful ways ai can be exploited because theres barely any regulation. The deepfaked nudes, the easy misinformation, etc. I personally dont think regulation will be enough bc the base problem is caused by capitalism, and tbh I think media literacy plays a huge part, but there still needs to be. Its just an incredibly dangerous technology as it stands right now.

Also worth noting, is how algorithms can easily lead to radicalization. A study came out showing that new tiktok users who watch certain "gateway" content will gradually be shown more and more extremist stuff. (Source: x *) Especially on social media sites, which are designed to promote controversial posts because theres more engagement, this can lead to someone potentially becoming part of a hate group. I bet theres ways algorithms could be written to prevent this, but everyone wants money, so its probably not gonna change anytime soon. Consumerism is a bitch.

Also, algorithms promote the most commonly accepted ideas, which causes bias and can cause social and scientific progress to become stagnant at best, and actively harmful at worst.

Basically, ai needs to be better regulated, capitalism sucks, and ai art is a whole can of worms. I feel like humanity needs to keep ai art on the highest shelf until we can work out the ethical dilemmas we already have.

#5: Super Mario RPG (SNES)

Started: Sometime in 2022 Finished: 17/1/23

This game was on my backlog for a very, very, very, very, very, very, VERY long time. It wasn't until I was prompted by a friend of mine to play through it that I finally decided that it was time to experience The Game That Has Geno In It™ and The Very First Time Mario Starred In An RPG™.

I can pretty much say that I loved playing through it, despite the severe lack of difficulty (probably helped by me not being a little child who wouldn't have much game sense developed at that point), everything that was placed before me could be overcome with a bit of strategy and some overlevelling thanks to the invulnerability stars and fighting through a good portion of encounters.

It also has that feel that I just know is in the blood of many a quirky JRPG of this day in terms of writing, it all just oozes character, and it also makes me sad that these days, anything RPG-related with Mario involves having every NPC be a Toad and calling it a day. I can probably remember certain characters in SMRPG better than a character in, say, Sticker Star.

And the music's still a banger, even by today's standards, albeit tainted by the likes of YTPs and the funny guy reading that one wikipedia article that I'll refuse to mention.

And Geno was pretty cool as well, not gonna lie. Before I was a little sad that he kept getting shafted by Nintendo but now I'm just a little bit more sadder knowing full well that Nintendo are doing the bare minimum to acknowledge his existence (Seriously, he should've gotten a deluxe Mii costume instead of the not-so-good costume ported from Smash 4).

All in all, I like this game, what more can I really say about it? Well, I guess I can better understand why people like this funny Mario RPG so much, so there's that.

As someone who’s deeply into remix culture but also has a lot of friends who are very serious illustrators, I’m not entirely sure how I feel about AI art. Though, I think with things like YTP it’s implied instantly that you created the offshoot but not the original components. By the very virtue of it being a YTP that’s implied at the get go I’d say. It seems the fear with the AI art is that you can’t necessarily tell instantly that “hey this is a collage art piece it’s a remix” which is valid concern, like art theft sucks major ass I know from being a victim of it. Music is more of a grey zone I think, in so far as how obvious/ethical the sampling is? That’s where I get conflicted because lots of great and valid art is collage-style remixed work?🤷‍♀️ and I’m very like pro remix and and all that? But I guess one of the main issues with AI art is because you’re putting in a prompt rather than splicing the images together urself you don’t really have any clue what the original source material even was? At least based on what I know about AI art that’s the case? And that leads to an inability to acknowledge the OG work.

I think another thing too that’s part of why it’s so controversial is how AI art is prompt-based so like, the process isn’t the same as other remixing where a human placed every portion in the spot they want themselves? Idk

But anyways, I think it would be cool if there was an art AI that was trained specifically on libraries of images from places like pixabay and public domain pictures, since those places are already pretty much remix repositories in a sense. I don’t necessarily have a problem against AI art categorically but I think there’s a lot of valid concerns around it too.
