Ok first things first, if you want to watch both seasons, you don’t have to watch past maybe episode 18, because that’s where the manga story ends and the filler begins. Season 2 roughly takes place after that and follows the rest of the manga for that arc. I kinda enjoyed it, but it could’ve done better in my general opinion.
I would recommend it if you’ve been eyeing it and wanting to watch it, but the manga is in fact much much much better, and I’ve found myself juggling from it and a certain jjba manga. But do give BE a chance if you’ve been wanting to!

Rin Okumura x Reader: First Bell
Wow...I have not seen any Blue Exorcist content in a while! But I have to admit I am a big fan of Rin Okumura! He is definitely on the list of some of my top fav anime characters!
Considering I am a not so popular writer, I decided to write for a not so popular anime! (I don’t know how it isn’t popular, I freaking love this show!)
Anyways-! Onto the story! As always if you would like a Part 2 to this I will gladly write one! And constructive feedback is always welcome!
Warnings: PG-13 (Spoilers!: This story will be taking place right after Season 1 of the anime! Nothing beyond that point will be talked about however!)
Tumblr media
You remember it like it was yesterday. Rumors of the gates of Gehenna opening, with True Cross Academy being in the center of all of it. Nobody believed the rumors. Why should they? It had been years since Satan had crawled out of the gates of hell and rampaged through Assiah. You had your doubts however. Everyone knew about the son of Satan, how he wanted to become an exorcist. And then...the gates opened. There was panic everywhere, doors to True Cross Academy opened, mirrors were placed to deflect light through the darkness. And then...Your school was destroyed.
Opening the doors and letting in sunlight through mirrors was a great idea and it had saved many lives in the short amount of time that it had been planned. However, nobody had expected demons to lurk in the shadows behind the mirrors. Nobody had expected large demons to find their way through your school and tear it down whilst having sunlight beat down on them, destroying them as well in the process. What in the name of Assiah did they do it for? Nobody knows. However now you had to start somewhere else for Exorcist training.  Everyone in your school then was moved to different schools that offered the same program so you could continue your studies. And of course...Having your luck, you landed at True Cross Academy.
Most everyone who was in your course back at your original school was spread around so that one school wouldn’t be mobbed with exorcists in training. Not that you were complaining about getting into one of the most prestigious schools in the country, it was just the student body that worried you. To say you were scared of the twins of Satan would be a lie, but it wasn’t like you were jumping out of your skin to go meet them either.

The first bell had rung of your first class of the day. Demon pharmaceuticals. You gently held your backpack straps and bit your lower lip. You stepped forward and gently pushed open the large door in front of you. It was heavy, but years of training and working out to make yourself stronger helped out a bit with your struggle. You stepped inside and looked around the classroom. There weren’t a lot of people there, which pissed you off considering you had to leave a lot of friends behind to come here. Your eyes travelled to a boy holding a poppet. A girl with purple pig-tails. A boy with pink hair. There was a boy with a blonde Mohawk. One with a shaved head and glasses. A girl with blonde hair. And finally the two who have had your curious since you entered the school.
One stood in front of the class wearing the official exorcist uniform. His ears were pointed, and if you looked close enough you could see fangs poking out of his mouth. Your eyes however lingered on the tail that poked out from underneath his official jacket. His hair was black and he had two beauty marks directly under his eyes.
“Sorry I’m late!-” A voice called as another demon boy jumped through the threshold of the door. “Holy shit, who are you?!” He asked with wide eyes. Almost like he couldn’t stop the words from spilling out of his mouth. He had the same demonic feats as his brother but his hair was blue and he looked roughed up. Your cheeks involuntarily heated up at the comment.
“Rin! Don’t be rude!” The other demonic twin said and wacked his brother on the back of the head gently with his hand. “Everyone take your seats and I will explain everything.”
“I-...I’m sorry are you my teacher?” You asked softly and a bit confused. He offered a kind and sweet smile.
“Yes I am...Now take a seat anywhere you see fit and I will begin todays class.” He said and went back behind the counter in the front of the room. You nodded slowly and sat down in the far back corner as to not be disturbed. You had known there would be two of them...You did not expect one of them to be your teacher.
“As you all are quite aware, we have a new student today. Miss (L/n) please come up and introduce yourself.” He said, and the moment he stopped talking all eyes were on you. Especially a pair of demonic ones. Slowly you got up and walked to the front of the class. You stood next to Mr. Okumura and started talking.
“My name is (F/n) (L/n) I was transferred here after a demon escaped from Gehenna and trampled my school while supplying light here through mirrors.” You started, but soon got cut off.
“What?! No way! Not one demon from that portal made it’s way through those thresholds!” The boy with the blonde strip shouted as he stood up.
“Bon! Lower your voice!” Yuiko scolded him.
“I assure you it did-” You started.
“Are you sure it wasn’t someone’s familiar?”
    “No.”
“How do you know?!” He said getting defensive.
“Bon!” Yukio shouted. “That’s enough just let her talk...Please continue...What kind of exorcist are you training to be?”
“I want to be a tamer...Well I am a tamer...But I have been studying being a Knight on the side.” You replied softly
“And why did you want to become an exorcist?” He asked. You went utterly silent. What would they think if you told them why you were really here? Would they think you were crazy? Probably. A dream to live in peace with demons was not a dream that people take kindly in this field, and you knew that better than anyone in the room. “If you don’t want to tell us you don’t have to...,” He said placing a hand on your shoulder. You glared at his hand and he suddenly pulled it off.
“...Your so warm...,” You said softly. “Nothing like the other half demons...,” You said softly.
“Well what did you expect?” The girl with the purple hair said sarcastically. “They ARE the sons of Satan...and by the way your reason to become an exorcist doesn’t matter to us...There are two people sitting in this room who want to kill Satan.”
“Kill Satan?!” You asked shocked. “That’s suicide...,”
“Is not!” The other demonic twin stood up. “I can totally do it!”
“I’m going to be sobering honest with you Okumura.” You said and looked straight at him. “Your still half human. You will die.” You said plainly. “Half-demons are mortals...,”
“So what?! If I’m so crazy then why are you here hmm?” He questioned. Now the whole room was staring right at you. Your cheeks heated up from the sudden attention.
“If I tell you....You can’t laugh...,” You said softly.
“Nobody will laugh at you.” Yukio reassured you.
“I-...I believe with enough hard work...And studying...We could...Live in peace with beings from Gehenna...And I know it sounds crazy-!” You said.
“That’s a great goal!” Rin said shooting up from his seat with a sloppy grin. And there was a moment of silence in the room. A moment you took to mark this in your memory. He was the first one to not laugh, or judge, or try to convince you that your dream was not in reach.
“...So is yours...,” You replied softly before sitting back down at your desk.

The next day was your first day doing academic classes at your new school. Currently the first bell for lunch had rung and you went to get food. You stood silently in awe as you noticed there was nothing left for students on a budget. You groaned softly and your shoulders slumped.
“Hey!” You heard someone say behind you. “You hungry?” You turned only to find Rin behind you holding a bento in his hands. His hair covered his ears and his teeth were still fanged like, but normal enough to be considered normal. And his tail was tucked away somewhere, but it wasn’t exactly like you were looking for it.
“Yeah...Actually...I didn’t get to eat breakfast today either...I’m like the last person to show up every day...,” You chuckled softly.
“Wanna split my lunch?” He offered. You did a little double take.
    “You would...Do that?”
“Hell yeah! What are friends for?” He asked and motioned for you to follow behind him. “Follow me!” He called. And soon the two of you were off. After a little while of walking and trying to find a good spot for lunch, you both settled on a patch of grass. “Here...I have an extra pair of chopsticks.” He said and handed them to you.
“Thanks...,” You said softly and took a bite from his lunch. “Wow!” You said with your eyes lighting up. “This tastes amazing!” Rin felt his cheeks heat up and he bashfully looked down.
“Oh stop!” He said gently waving his hand back and forth, then reaching down and taking a bite from his lunch. “Sho...Do you rweally fink shat we can live wif demons...,” He said with his mouth filled. You couldn’t help but giggle a bit at it.
“What?” You asked with a slightly tilted head.
“Do you really think we can live with demons...Ya’know...In peace?” He asked looking up at you. You paused for a moment and hummed.
“I don’t see why not...,” You trailed off.
“Where did you even get that idea in the first place? I mean- not to be rude...But I don’t think you just woke up one day thinking that humans and demons should live in peace...,” You hummed softly at his question and thought about it.
“Well...Way back when I was a little girl...I got attacked by a demon, it latched on to me and slowly was draining my life away...I was only 7 years old at the time.” You sighed and smiled. “But then...An exorcist came and she banished the demon back to where it came from.”
“Why didn’t she just kill it?” He asked sipping on his water from his plastic bottle.
“It was against her belief...I hold some of those beliefs.”
    “What were they?”
“She believed that all life was a precious gift...I believe that too, however I also believe that sometimes things need to die to keep balance...Like how predators kill their prey to survive. I believe the same for demons, that they shouldn’t die unless it’s life on the line.” You blushed. “Sorry I’m rambling.”
“No no! I totally get it! That’s a very interesting kind of thinking...but I like it!” He smiled a wide toothy grin. You blinked and felt your heart pound in your chest.
“Everyone calls me crazy...When I tell them that...,” You said softly and pushed some hair behind your ear.
“People say that about me when I talk about killing Satan...So I guess we’re in the same boat!” He raised his hand to give you a high five. You smiled and gently clapped your hand against his.

After that, your relationship with Rin got much better. You sat next to him in classes, ate lunch with him, did your homework with him, and he even let you come over to his dorm and meet Ukokbach. All in all, you enjoyed spending time with Rin, and he enjoyed spending time with you. And slowly over the course of about three months, you both began to develop feelings for one another, feelings a bit deeper than friendship.
It was just before Yukio’s class when it happened. You were just walking down the long winding hallway with huge doors, when you saw something behind you glow. It was Rin, a bit of blue fire gently licked at the top of his head, and the tip of his tail. His cheeks were a soft pink and his walk looked uncomfortable.
“Rin...,” You said softly. “You okay..?-”
“Your really hot and pretty and I wanna go out with you cuz your really cool and I feel like we would make a good couple so whaddya’ say?” He said really quickly. It took a moment for your mind to process everything that he had just said to you. You gulped softly and smiled, leaning forward and placing a soft kiss on his cheek.
“Let’s start with dinner Okumura...,” You said softly, then you heard the first bell ring and smiled. “We’re gonna be late.” You sang before heading into the classroom. However, Rin stood frozen, with red cheeks. A wild large flame surrounded his body as he celebrated in the hallway.
“Yes! She likes me back! Oh shit I gotta make something good for dinner!” He cried happily, completely unaware...
...that you could hear him through the door.

The Demon’s Keeper
Tumblr media
Author’s Note: If anyone wants to be added to the taglist for this feel free to let me know! Happy to add anyone!
(Rin Okumara x Reader)
Summary: Rin Okumura is a hot headed demon who is hard to keep under control, only one person seems to be able to do it better than anyone, Y/N. For that, she’ll be known as the Demon’s Keeper, but what exactly does that entail for them?
A03 Link
Part One:
Word Count: 2169
Our nightly ritual of sitting on the swings at the nearest park was rudely interrupted when a certain black haired hot head caught sight of some kids preying on some birds. His eyes filled with anger and I grabbed onto his hand, trying to get him to stay back. “Rin, come on, don’t do this. Can we just have one night where we don’t have to pick a fight with someone? Please?”
Rin pulled his hand from mine. “Do what you want, but I have to help those animals. Look at them, they’re helpless.”
One of the boys, the one who looked like the leader, was pointing an arrow straight at the group of what seemed like pigeons by the jungle gym. The boy pulled the trigger and an arrow shot straight through the bird. I turned my head and hid my face. How could someone do that to a helpless little animal?
Rin looked from me to the bird, growing more angry at the situation as he saw my discomfort. Another arrow was put into the bow and that’s when he took action. Rin hollered to them. “Hey, what do you think you’re doing?!”
The boy turned to face us and aimed the bow and arrow toward us instead. Before we could move he shot the arrow. I gasped loudly as the arrow landed an inch from Rin’s face, sticking into the tree that the swings hung on. Rin growled and the boy provoked him. “Get out of my face. I’m just getting rid of these useless pests that just swarm, eat, and crap everywhere. So just shut the hell up.” The boy next to him loaded another arrow for him.
I never had a chance to grab the sleeve of his jacket before Rin was barreling toward the kid, fist in the air. I tried to snap him out of it before something went wrong. “Rin, stop! Don’t do it!” His fist connected with the kid's face and he hit the ground.
The kid backed away from Rin and I ran toward them. I grabbed onto Rin’s arm and hid slightly behind him. The two boys beside the leader grabbed his arms and helped him to his feet. The boy looked at Rin both in terror and in anger. “What kind of demon are you?”
They started to walk away and Rin looked at them. “Who are you calling a demon? You assholes are way more demonic than me.”
Rin wiped his nose on his sleeve of his free arm and looked down. Blood tinged the end of his jacket and there was some drying on his nose. He looked toward me. “Oh crap, I did it again.”
I grabbed his face in my hand and took a tissue out of my pocket with the other, wiping his nose and kissing the end of it.
“What am I doing Y/N? ...Damnit.” He sighed and looked up as the birds he saved flew away.
“You’re speaking up for what you believe in… even though I tried to stop you.” I smiled at him and giggled.
He put his hands on my waist, turned me around, and started walking forward. “Let’s head back to the Monastery before the old man wonders where we are.”
* * * * * *
When we got back to the Monastery we were greeted at the front doors by none other than Shiro Fujimoto. When he spotted the cut on Rin’s face he didn’t look pleased. “What happened to you?” He pulled his glasses down his nose some to take a closer look.
Rin turned his head so he couldn’t see it. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Shiro looked at him with intent. “Into the chapel, now.” I started to turn to walk to our bedroom when he spoke again. “Both of you.” I sighed and the both of us followed him in, sitting in the pews near the front. Shiro looked over at Rin. “Into the confessions booth, no if, ands, or buts.”
Rin groaned and went into one side of it, Shiro sitting in the other. I watched from the pew across from the booth. Rin looked more annoyed than I had seen him in a long time. Rin rested his face on his chin and stared at me as shiro spoke to him. “Oh straying lamb, confess thy sins with true sorrow and pray for forgiveness.”
Rin blew out a breath. “Yeah? Why should I? I haven’t done anything wrong.”
“Where did you get that cut on your face?”
And this is the point where the stories started. “I tripped going down stairs.”
“Your clothes are a mess.”
“It was a mother of a fall.”
“And that trace of a nose bleed?”
“Yeah, well, when I fell, I bumped smack into this super hot chick, and I-”
Rin didn’t even get to finish his sentence before Shiro came running out of the booth, standing in front of me, frantic. He turned back to his son. “What? Let’s go after her! Show me where she is, Rin!
Rin gulped. “Crap.”
Shiro reached into the booth and dragged Rin out in a headlock. “You moron!” Rin wiggled in his arms. “You got into another fight. Admit it.”
I stood up from the pew and started toward them. “Shiro, you’re choking him.” I bit my lip nervously. It wouldn’t be the first time that Shiro had done this and Rin had passed out.
“Why must you always brawl?” Shiro squeezed a little harder.
Rin fought back. “Let go of me you old fart!”
Shiro let go and turned around. “I just received a disturbing phone call from you employers. They told me they have no need for a delivery boy who doesn’t bother to return”
Rin stood up and stepped next to me, wrapping his arm around my shoulder. “So what? Big deal. There was no way I could cut it anyway. As if a guy like me could ever hold down a job.”
I looked over at him and smacked him in the back of the head. “Don’t be a baby Rin!”
Shiro chuckled at me. “I knew I liked this girl for a reason.” He got serious again as he spoke to Rin. “Y/N is right. A day will soon come when you must leave this monastery and strike out on your own. And as your guardian it’s my duty to see that you do so. You can’t rely on Y/N for everything when you leave here. Or do you just want to become a priest and run this monastery?”
Rin looked offended. “Take over this crappy church. Dream on.”
We all jumped when Yukio, Rin’s twin brother, walked into the room and spoke. “Dad? I’m all done getting myself ready to move out. All that’s left for me to do is carry out my luggage.”
Shiro smiled at him. “Well done, son.”
Yukio smiled at us. “Welcome home you guys!” He looked over at Rin. “Get into another fight.”
Rin looked away from him in anger. “Shut the hell up.” I smacked him in the back of the head again. He shot a glare at me. “Ow! Would you quit doing that?!”
“Would you be nice to your brother for once?”
Rin said nothing and the monks behind us spoke as they cleaned the windows. “I swear, for a couple of twins, those guys couldn’t be more different.”
They struck up a conversation without realizing we were listening. “Yukio might be the younger one, but he doesn’t act like it. He’s great at sports, always gets straight A’s, and he’s about to start his freshman year at True Cross Academy.”
“Meanwhile his big brother’s only accomplishment is causing trouble.” They looked over at us. “Rin,” Rin tried his best to ignore them. “You should really try being a little bit more like Yukio and start straightening out your life.”
My eyes grew wide as the other one spoke again. “And you should probably start taking better care of that girl you have on your arm, if you don’t, a good guy like Yukio is going to take her away.”
Rin shot around to stare at him. “I said just shut up!” The furnace next to the two cleaning the windows shot out blue flames, almost like it had been activated by Rin’s anger.
I jumped and looked at Shiro and Yukio. Shiro ran toward the furnace, spouting things about it being junk and needing to be replaced, but I was skeptical. I looked up at Rin who was still staring at the two men and then looked toward Yukio.
Shiro left the room a second later when another monk came in to tell him that someone was here to see him. He turned before exiting the door. “Yukio, Y/N, please tend to Rin’s wounds.”
We both looked over at him and spoke together. “Yes sir.”
* * * * * *
As Yukio put rubbing alcohol on Rin’s cuts on his hand he whined like a baby. I chuckled at him. “That stings!”
Yukio continued without faltering. “I’m almost finished. Suck it up Rin.”
Rin looked toward Yukio’s boxes that were packed near the dining room table. “So you’re moving into the dorm, huh?”
“Yeah, well, since school starts next week and all. I’ll be saying goodbye to sixteen years in this place.”
I looked over at him. “We’re gonna miss you Yuki.”
“Don’t make me sound like a baby Y/N.” Rin spat.
“Don’t try to sound so tough you big baby.”
Yukio chuckled at us. “I’ll miss you guys too.”
Rin changed the subject some. “So I guess that makes this the last time you’ll be treating my injuries”
Yukio laughed. “What I become a doctor I’ll give you all the treatment you want… for a fee of course.”
Yuiko amazed me. He had everything together, he knew exactly what he wanted in life. I loved Rin, but he didn’t know what he wanted in life and tended to just go with the flow. “Being a doctor’s always been your dream, hasn’t it Yuki?”
“It has.” He smiled at me.
Rin held up his bandaged hand and showed it to me, praising his brother. “Then go for it, I’m sure you’re gonna make it.”
“Listen, you guys are gonna be alright without me, aren’t you?” He looked concerned. “You’re going to be able to keep this guy in line right Y/N.”
I gave him a weak smile. Goodbyes sucked. “Probably about as well as I do now. But we’ll be okay Yuki, don’t worry about us.”
Rin didn’t take it the same way as I. “What’s up with that? Are you gonna lecture me too?”
“I’m just worried, that’s all, and not just me. Dad’s worried too, and so is everyone else here. I mean, you’re getting into fights every day. And you can’t seem to hold down a part time job for very long. You can’t even see how worried your own girlfriend is about you, Rin.”
Rin looked over at me with an apologetic look. “I’m really stressed about all that too. I know I’ve got to pull it together, and fast, but I…”
Yukio sensed the tension as Rin fell silent. “I’m sure you’re just being tested in a way, Rin.”
“By who?”
“God, of course.”
Rin’s face dropped some. “You know, you’re starting to sound just like the old man.”
A couple of apprentices came into the room and spoke. “There you are Rin, we heard that the Southern Cross Shopping Mall is hiring part timers!”
“Yea?” Rin seemed confused.
“We called and they want you there right now for an interview!”
“What?” Rin was getting angry again. “How dare you call them without telling me!”
“You better hurry, you can borrow one of my old suits for the interview!” The monk threw a box at him.
Rin caught the box over his head. “I need a suit to interview for a part time job?”
Yukio cheered up some. “What do you say?”
Rin scratched his head. “Looks like there’s no way out.
* * * * * *
As we sat in our bedroom Rin struggled with the tie on the suit. I stood up and walked toward him as he squirmed with anxiety and annoyance. “Rin, let me see it.” I reached for him.
“No. I can do it. I’ll figure it out. I don’t need your help with everything. I have to be someone you can rely on as well. I have to take care of you.”
I sighed. “Don’t let what that guy said in the chapel get to you. I’m not going anywhere Rin. As unorganized as you are in your life I couldn’t see us any other way. I wouldn’t want you any other way Rin Okumara.” I smiled at him and kissed his cheek.
He smiled back at me and put his hand under my chin, lifting my head up to him. He put his lips on mine and spoke. “I love you too Y/N L/N.”

I finally got to watch Kizuna, and honestly, I was surprised how much I enjoyed it! After reading the novelization, I wasn’t expecting much, but the movie really is a different experience. (I feel like the novel kind of tends to emphasize the wrong things?)
But anyway, while I was watching, I kept an eye out for background details and easter eggs, and I listed the ones I thought were the most interesting:
The first thing is the text conversation that Koushirou and Taichi have early on in the film, which gives a little extra context regarding the high-tech goggles.
(This screenshot has a few lines cut off, but I went with it because the more complete one is so zoomed out it’s almost illegible.)
Tumblr media
Koushirou: There's a switch on the side of the visor. Press it for 5 seconds to turn it on. It locks on to the opponent by detecting your line of sight, so it's not complicated to use.
Taichi: Thanks
Koushirou: It's a prototype, so I can't guarantee that it'll work perfectly. You took it without permission in the first place, so use it at your own risk. And don't be careless with it and break it. Make absolutely sure you return it to the company.
Taichi: Takeru and I made it to Nakano. We'll stand by until the Digital Gate opens.
Koushirou: Got it.
Koushirou: Thank you for helping send Parrotmon back. You didn't break the goggles, did you? Please bring them back.
----------
Next, there’s Koushirou’s contact list. The first time it’s visible, most of the people listed are international Chosen, but a few of the names are new, as far as I know. Maybe they’re some of the kids they showed in 02 but never named?
Tumblr media
A few minutes later, Koushirou brings up another section of the list with a bunch of Japanese names, none of which I recognize except for Yamato, Ken, and Miyako.
Tumblr media
I’m assuming that all the people on the list are supposed to be Chosen, so I took a stab at translating the names:
Shougo Asai Touya Amasawa Karin Andou Narumi Itabashi Yuiko (Yuuko?) Imai Shuuto Uchimura Kai Urano Saki Eguchi Keisuke Endou Takuya Ooishi Yuria Okada Eiji Okumura
Most of them don’t look familiar, but some do share a given name or a surname with a character from another part of the franchise. I would assume it’s a coincidence, but “Kai Urano” makes me wonder, since it’s only one character away from “Kai Urazoe.”
----------
Tumblr media
This screen doesn’t require any translation, but it is interesting and a bit weird.
Tumblr media
It says at the bottom of the screen that 306 Chosen have gone into comas, but the smaller text on the map lists a “number of victims” at each location that’s in the hundreds or thousands. It doesn’t make much sense, but there’s enough attention to detail in the screens shown in the background in this movie that I don’t believe that the numbers are random junk.
My best guess is that the map is listing the number of potential victims, i.e. the number of Chosen living in each region, plus their gender ratio (?) for some reason. I’m not entirely sure, though, because unless my math is way off, the numbers given here only total a little over 8,000 people, and even without Africa, the Middle East, or South Asia, that’s nowhere near what it should be in 2010.
----------
Tumblr media
There are a couple of interesting things in the article about Menoa that Yamato reads at the archive.
The first is just a little bit of extra characterization. According to the text, Menoa originally planned to major in biology, which is obviously not what ended up happening. (Losing Morphomon really derailed the poor woman’s entire life...)
The other thing is more of a setting-related detail. When I read the novel, I assumed that Morphomon being in the photograph was an accident, but it turns out that not only were the two deliberately posing together, the caption actually identifies Morphomon as her “partner Digimon.”
That seems unlikely for an article from 2002, back when the Japanese Chosen Children were still trying to hide the Digimon from everyone. I guess it could work if the article were from 2003, if you assume that the public was much more aware of Digimon after they started appearing all over the world in 02?
(I don’t think there’s any way to make it fit with tri, though.)
