Yummy lavender soap is back!

At the beginning:

PLEASE DO NOT EAT LAVENDER SOAP AT HOME. NOW IT'S JUST CHEMISTRY.

So I was browsing Tumblr and I haven't found any post like that (if there is any post then sorry to repeat) so let's begin!

Everyone who watched OFMD remembers the scene with 'yummy lavender soap'. It's funny: Ed ate the lavender soap (there are other posts about the symbolism of, for example, lavender). But as a little history freak I started to wonder what the soap was made of in the 18th century (OFMD takes place in 1717 soooo).

And now, a few facts:

obvious one: lavender is edible and - that's funny - it tastes like soap coincidence? I don't think so!, it's often used in confectionery (for example lemonade, doughnuts, cakes, ice creams, cupcakes, muffins...),

in 1717 in England almost all soap (at least as far as I could find the information) was made of animal fat,

in the 18th century soap was made of natural fat (one of the most expensive ones - Marseille soap - was made of olive oil and let's be honest - Stede must have used it), not like today,

natural fat is edible too - maybe not so yummy but edible,

soap was a luxury item and a person like Ed probably couldn't afford them (or didn't want to).

This means that 18th-century lavender soap could be 'yummy'. For Ed, it could be something like a bar of chocolate. Not poisonous. Yummy if you like lavender flavour like me for example.

So yeah, in conclusion - Edward Teach could eat lavender soap and like it, just as we like chocolate.

Stede: Well, he kept holding onto it whenever he was in here, so I figured he'd like to have it.

Lucius: Captain, this box is meant to be a way to let yourself be petty and throw it in his face that you don't need any part of him and he doesn't get to have any part of you. You don't put stuff in here just because you think he'll like it.

Stede: *sigh* alright.

Lucius: *nods*

Stede: Can I at least put some of the lavender soap in there? I think he'd really appreciate it-

Lucius: IT ISN'T A CARE PACKAGE!

List of different theories I’ve thought of for the new promo pics except it keeps getting worse

Box is full of beauty products and jars of makeup and whatnot and Ed is going absolutely maniacal full on bridezilla for his wedding day which is why he’s got his hair up and the earring and no black face paint on except bridezilla Ed is more terrifying than the Kraken so Frenchie fears for his life when Ed tells him “you’re gonna use all this stuff and make me look like a million bucks and you’re gonna do it in the next hour cause we’re doing this thing before sundown and I don’t care if I have to kill all of you to do it, ‘kay?”

The jars in the box contain the “yummy lavender soap” mentioned in season 1, Frenchie kept some from being thrown overboard because he also loves it but Ed finds out and confiscates it from him under the guise of being pissed, of “needing to follow orders” or “stede bonnet’s posh shit not belonging here anymore” but then secretly keeps it for himself to smell like stede again when he’s sad

The box is of food and supplies for Lucius hiding in the ship. Frenchie’s figured out Lucius is alive and is helping him stay hidden, but Ed takes the rations box from him while pretending to know nothing about it hoping to draw Lucius out

Box is filled with nothing of real significance to the plot but Ed threatens Frenchie with it by saying he’ll throw Frenchie overboard like he did Lucius, and it’s the first time Frenchie discovers Lucius is dead and not abandoned on an island like the others and that’s why he’s almost crying because he grieves for Lucius

The gloves are to prevent rope burn which Stede needs to use somehow as part of his pirate training montage with Izzy, and he drops the rope and something disastrous happens which is why he’s comedically shocked

Sort of the same idea as theory no. 1 except instead of rope it’s dealing with birds or something outlandish and crazy

Reunion gone wrong, Ed shoves Stede to the ground and tries to kill him hence his shock and fear in his eyes

Stede starts hallucinating again and this time it’s Ed, but then when he gets back on the ship he sees Ed and falls down because he looks exactly like he did in Stede’s visions and Stede thinks it’s just another hallucination OR another accidental (or maybe this time intentional but just creates blowback which knocks him over?) murder
