Eternal Love - Episode 6

So I must say... I never recognized Lian Song in his war apparel. Wow. That was like a totally different person. Now that I’ve seen Eternal Love of Dream, it makes sense since he likes to create new weapons and stuff, but well, yeah, I guess the first time I watched the drama I only noticed Yao Guang. Who seems not so happy to see Si Yin. Well, they bow politely and then both Lian Song and Yao Guang leaves. The fact that they came worries both Si Yin and Ling Yu. They wonder if there are bringing bad news, but Mo Yuan says that Lian Song never got to experience war, so he came for that reason. Ling Yu is to go at the front line, while Si Yin will stay with Mo Yuan. I have to say here... Mo Yuan’s head piece for war is really... interesting? I wonder how come it doesn’t fall off his head. Okay yes, there is some sort of elastic band, but honestly, it doesn’t look extremely secured in my opinion.

Mo Yuan decides to teach Si Yin how to control the Donghuang bell. Well, seal it. Does he sense something? Si Yin looks so happy that he’s willing to teach it to her. He’d rather not teach her actually, but she’s the only one amongst her disciple with a high enough rank? status? cultivation potential? I don’t know how to translate it well, but basically, the others wouldn’t be able to use this method even if they knew how it worked. Si Yin is wondering then if he didn’t realized her real identity.

Time for the battle came. The Yi even have some kind of weird creatures in the back. But Mo Yuan is like, yeah like I care, I am going to invoque some lightning, split the water in two and freeze it. So the Yi rush through the river. And I am wondering, why didn’t Mo Yuan just put back the back in it’s place? It worked well for Moses. Then huge disgusting creatures comes from beneath and kills the masses, and Mo Yuan’s tactical plan gets destroyed.

Yanzhi tries to stop Li Jing from jumping in the battle, but he rushes in anyways, even though he knows they will lose for sure. Oh boy I love fighting scenes. Bad ass Ling Yu and bad ass Die Feng. Li Yuan comes for a fight with Ling Yu. I am so stressed TT I love how they always spit blood. Then it gets bad for Ling Yu and Si Yin jumps in to save him. Ling Yu is like don’t come and Si Yin doesn’t make it on time to save him. Si Yin is crying over Ling Yu’s near coming death and then Li Yuan is about to strike her, but Li Jing stops him. He says since his wifey was useful, doesn’t he have the right to protect someone? So Xuannü stole the plans for the tactical, that’s why they can win. But even so, protecting the enemy is out of question. Si Yin is like, Li Jing you made Xuannü steal my stuff? But they don’t have the time to explain, someone, I am not sure... since it’s a phenix, is it Zhe Yan? But that person looked more like Bai Zhen. I would recognize Yu Menglong’s face anywhere, such a cutie. Well that person takes them away. Yep, it’s Bai Zhen. I knew it was him.

Si Yin is devastated by Ling Yu’s death and she begs Mo Yuan to save him. But he only tells her to get Die Feng so they send Ling Yu’s corpse to Kunlunxu. I the book, he doesn’t die by the way, actually the novel doesn’t spend that much time on when Bai Qian was still a disciple at Kunlunxu. Si Yin is sad to no limits and blames herself for the death of Ling Yu. She tells Mo Yuan that Xuannü stole the plans. So they realize they are sure to lose. And then so many officers come to report bad news. Mo Yuan asks Bai Zhen to take Si Yin away. Well he probably knows she’s Bai Qian and if he wasn’t sure, the fact that Bai Zhen, fourth son of the Qingqiu king came to save Si Yin when they are not implied in that war... well it says a whole lot. I love Bai Zhen’s outfit though **

Bai Qian seeks comfort in her brother, she blames herself, saying that if she didn’t keep Xuannü in Kunlunxu, if she didn’t met Li Jing, Ling Yu wouldn’t have died. Bai Zhen says he’s the one who sent Xuannü to her, so he’s to blame too then. She also says that if it weren’t for her sister in law, wife of her big brother, she would have killed Xuannü way before and Bai Zhen says she’s no Qingqiu people anymore since she chose the Yi and next time Bai Qian bumps into her, she should kill her without mercy. She deserves it.

The three princes of the Tian want to participate actively in the war, but Mo Yuan says it falls to his responsibility to fight it and he has sixteen disciples to lead the armies with him. Then he says he need 10, 000 people to sacrifice themselves. Sangji asks Mo Yuan to rethink about this, but Mo Yuan says it’s the only for the rest of them all to survive, otherwise more people are going to die. The leader of Sujin clan offers his men to do it. Than Yao Guang says that if they use an unknown general, Qing Cang is going to guess it’s a decoy. Apart from Mo Yuan, the only other person would be her. So she volunteers to lead the 10,000 soldiers. He reminds her that doing so she’ll die for sure, but she says she knows and she’ll do it.

Bai Zhen will lead Ling Yu’s troop at the front line and Si Yin Yao Guang’s troop at the back. At first Mo Yuan doesn’t really want to let Si Yin do it, his baby disciple. But since Bai Zhen offers himself... I guess he does to keep an eye on his little baby sister. Because Qingqiu isn’t part of the conflict.

Fighting choreographies are just so beautiful in a way. I can only admire the hard work of the actors for that. Well they manage to defeat the army and Mo Yuan says that if they retreat, they still have a chance to live. But Qingcang isn’t willing to give up, as long as he’s king, the war won’t stop. He takes out the the Donghuang bell. Si Yin jumps in, trying to do I don’t know what... Bai Zhen is like noooo! Mo Yuan goes after her, fortunately because she’s definitely no match for Qing Cang. He sends her back to Bai Zhen and rushes to stop the Donghuang bell. He ends up having a fight with Qing Cang. This aerial fighting scene is just too beautiful. However, there’s one moment, I could clearly see it wasn’t Chao Yuting, but a double, even though they did a very good job overall, never including any face shots and everything. I wish he could do those stunts himself though. That would be awesome. The only problem is Mo Yuan’s headpiece. It looks so terrible that it makes it a little too... oh well. I can’t take it as seriously as I should. Mo Yuan pushes Qing Cang in the bell and then flies towards. Then he tells Si Yin to wait for him before getting in the bell too and sealing it. Only his corpse comes back. Si Yin catches it.

The Yi comes to say they won’t fight anymore, as they don’t want to be the Tian’s enemies. Sassy Bai Qian is up hehehe! She turns looking at Li Yuan with those killer eyes. She decides to attack everybody, they should all die too. Yanzhi begs Si Yin. Si Yin is restrained back by her older disciples. Bai Zhen is just standing there being pretty, until he knocks her out. Bai Zhen is such a bad ass and takes her back to Kunlunxu.

Siming tells Donghua that Mo Yuan died while sealing the Donghuang bell. Donghua is shooooook. And dismisses Siming before calling him back to send him go to Ziming palace as soon as possible. They can’t delay.

Li Jing is drinking his problems away. When Xuannü comes next to him, he slaps her away. He doesn’t care she did that for him, that war had nothing to do with him. She says he’s her only support now and he tells her she’s relying on the wrong person. As Li Yuan will probably ascend as the king now, he’s most likely to die very soon. Li Yuan never hid the fact that he would rather have Li Jing dead.

Siming comes to help Li Jing take over Li Yuan as king of the Yi. Li Jing refuses at first, he’s not interested, but then Siming tells him in that case he’s most likely to die. Plus he has to avenge for his mother’s death.

The lotus flower dies. Si Yin asks Zheyan when will Mo Yuan wake up?

210503 My favorite moments & translations of the SHL concert including the warming up livestream

1. Zhao Jing calling fans adopted sons and daughters during the livestream and revealing that there will be a game where they hug each other, telling fans to look forward to it (he knows what we want to see haha).

2. Gong Jun arrived at the livestream first, but he still waited for Zhang Zhehan and told Zhang Zhehan to introduce himself first.

3. Zhang Zhehan saying he will talk less as he needs to take care of his throat for the actual concert, so Gong Jun talked mostly in the livestream (translation is here).

4. In the beginning of the concert, ZZH introduced himself: "I'm your Ah Xu." (T ^ T)

5. The MCs asked the casts to write down their top 1 iconic scene, some of them picked the scene where Gao Chong died. GJ & ZZH were having a discussion and the MCs were like "why do these two have to discuss their top 1 scene?" (yeah, you just need to write your own fave scene, it's not pair work LMAO) ZZH picked "you're not worthy" scene where they had to fight against Ye Bai Yi, and GJ picked the sun basking scene where they called each other 'Lao Wen', 'Ah Xu' 3 times. ZZH said: thanks to Gao dage's iconic scene, they got to rest haha.

6. Gao Chong, Zhao Jing & Shen Sheng sitting behind GJ & ZZH wrote "Lao Wen ♡ Lao Zhou" on their whiteboards, they were laughing so much while holding it up.

7. When they played the sun basking scene, the MCs asked GJ "you were pretty focused when watching the scene." GJ replied, "it reminded me of the time when we were filming, it felt so warm just like now, I'm being surrounded with love."

8. MCs said that ZZH added the part where calling Lao Wen's name 3 times. ZZH said: "yes I even asked GJ to call Ah Xu 3 times, I like the number 3 and calling the names 3 times shows 3 different emotions". When MCs asked them to reenact the scene, I heard CWN saying he wants to see it. (I hope I didn't mishear it lol and the MCs were smiling so much while watching them)

9. After ZZH finished singing Gu Meng (T ^ T), the fans were all screaming 'lao po'. XDDD

10. At the beginning of the game segment, when the rules came up on the screen. Fans were screaming loudly and ZZH said: "did you guys even read/ understand it to be screaming like that?" And one of the MCs said: "shouldn't that be Ye Bai Yi's job to diss people?" (The MCs definitely did a lot of prep before the concert haha XD and that is the hugging game Zhao Jing talked about in the livestream)

11. GJ & ZZH were laughing hehehehe when they found out they got the same number.

12. The MCs had to say a number, they have to find enough people to make that number. At one point Ye Bai Yi was with 3 actresses, and ZZH said: "Ye Bai Yi you're a guy and you're hugging 3 girls??? I didn't expect you to be like this." (AHAHAHAHA)

13. I missed out on what happened with CWN & GX, but it seems that they wanted to get eliminated together. (T ^ T)

14. So at the end, ZZH and Cheng Ling won the game and GJ was like: "the person who won the game will sing until tomorrow's concert." (LOL)

15. GJ said: "I feel like you guys planned it out to make me lose the game." (ZZH called 'Lao Wen' 3 times here ahhhh GJ kinda just gave up lol) "Am I right, didi?" Cheng Ling replied yes. ZZH asked GJ to dance as a punishment but GJ forced ZZH to dance and ZZH was like why do I have to do it when I won the game?? Then ZZH sang and GJ danced to 爱的恰恰 (so cute I cry) GJ couldn't do the dance properly, he explained: "I need to save my energy, I have to sing later."

16. When they were picking the winners for the prizes, GJ said: "it's so unfair to the bottom floor, they haven't won anything." ZZH then jokingly added: "the people on the bottom floor, they're super fast at getting the tickets and they're pretty rich too." (because the tickets are more expensive) GJ jokingly followed: "then let's pick someone from level 3, haha I actually did pick out level 3 (from the bag)."

17. Another game, the MCs asked them to say something fierce to the other team, GJ was facing his teammates and kept saying (I can't remember what he said) really loudly. And ZZH was like did you not understand (the instructions) why are you shouting at your teammates? (AHAHAHAHAHA come on I don't think he would say anything fierce to his lao po XD)

18. I can't remember what happened but Ye Bai Yi shouted: "卧槽 (fuck)" during the game segment. (really loudly!!! and I haven't heard any Chinese actors/ celebrities say that in public lmao)

19. GJ couldn't find all the nails on ZZH and asked: "where did you guys hide it?" Ye Bai Yi lifts up ZZH's clothes and said: "here". GJ said:" I can't reach there, they won't be able to broadcast it." (asdfghjklfuuuuu)

20. When they reenacted the "you're not worthy" scene and still bickering like 3-year-olds XDDD

21. When Cao Wei Ning & Ah Xiang were singing Yuan Mie, Ah Xiang got so emotional she cried and messed up, so Cao Wei Ning sang her lines and held her hand really tightly. (I CRIEDDDD)

22. Afterwards, ZZH & GJ walked out with Cheng Ling (then everyone came out too). GJ forgot to bring the red bracelets and ZZH was like "where are the red bracelets? Lao Wen did you give it to someone else?" (AHAHAHAHA)

23. When they had to put the red bracelets on each other's wrists, CWN's hands were shaking so much, you can literally feel how nervous he is through the screen. (sobs) CWN called Ah Xiang "Cao furen (my wife)" and GX called Cao dage "my husband". (T ^ T)

24. When Xi Sang Gui came into the centre, she said: "Ah Xing (WKX) when will it be your wedding?" GJ just smiled and side-eyed ZZH. XDD

25. GJ said that SHL means a lot to him, it's a special, irreplaceable drama to him. I think he also thanked ZZH. ZZH said: "thank you shanrens who're here and watching in front of the screen for giving us the chance to dream and made our dream come true. (no, thank YOU for bringing Ah Xu into our lives T ^ T)

26. Picking winners again and CWN was trying so hard to find the bottom/ centre area card. (so cute)

27. ZZH & GJ singing Tian Wen, ZZH got confused at the start and GJ helped him to get back into the right key, they both laughed and it was just so cuteeeee. And GJ said: "everyone together" which made ZZH laugh cuz you don't usually say that during a slow song lmao.

28. Liu Qianqiao presented 嗑 upside down which is phonetically “嗑到了/ kdl” and it means my ship (cp) is sailing.

Xu Jing, let’s have a child. Okay. Would you want a boy or a girl? A girl. It’d be great if she had big eyes and neat, straight hair. Like a doll, haha.

This whole relationship makes me so legitimately sad and it literally lasted one episode. Just one episode.

The writers shove these two in your face as a “kind” relationship. They even make the McDonald’s cashier directly address them as father and daughter—and might I say, the laughable awkwardness that surfaces there is phenomenal. Ah, yes; what a picturesque family! A murderer and his blackmailer “daughter.” Warms one’s icy heart.

On first watch, this might make you a bit antsy. How uncomfortable it is; this idea that a killer and an orphan are mimicking the bond between a parent and child. Yet, you might catch yourself seeing the potential; and that’s because you’ve been subliminally brainwashed since the first episode.

In episode one, Zhang Dong Sheng and Xu Jing attend a full moon celebration for the baby of Xu Jing’s sister. At the time of this event, we already know that the relationship between Zhang Dong Sheng and his wife is estranged, and the party seems to rubs salt into that wound. No one mentions it directly, and that lack of words is precisely what produces the most discomfort: Zhang Dong Sheng and Xu Jing are childless, yet not one person asks when they are going to have kids. I’m not sure whether this is the same in other cultures, but I can guarantee that at Chinese gatherings, married couples without kids will always be badgered about when they plan to have children. That this topic is glaringly absent in Zhang Dong Sheng and Xu Jing’s company is a sign that something is awry.

Though we’re meant to assume that their lack of children is the main culprit behind their relationship growing cold, it does not receive “confirmation” (in quotes because, like most aspects of this show, it’s an unverified implication) until the end of episode nine, when Pu Pu and Yan Liang seek shelter at Zhang Dong Sheng’s home during the typhoon. The credits roll, and you hear a voiceover of Zhang Dong Sheng and Xu Jing discussing having a child (quoted in the caption above). A couple that made sunny plans to have kids, but one party ends up cheating before that happens? The major conclusion this points toward is that Zhang Dong Sheng is not capable of having children, which drove them apart and led to Xu Jing’s affair. (As a side note, I love this “twist” on extramarital affairs. In most dramas, the husband cheats because his wife is infertile. And that “standard” of the man usually having the power to run around, doing whatever he pleases, must contribute more to Zhang Dong Sheng’s inferiority complex.)

Then, along comes Pu Pu, a girl who matches the description of Zhang Dong Sheng’s desired daughter to a tee. The timing of the voiceover being played right after we see Pu Pu and Yan Liang, drenched after being in the rain, is crucial. Up until this point, we are still wary of Zhang Dong Sheng and we find it foolish of the two kids to turn to him for help. But after we hear the voiceover, we can guess that he’s going to allow them to stay in his home, even without seeing them step through the front doorway—he will help them because Pu Pu reminds Zhang Dong Sheng of the daughter he never had.

The reason this supposed “familial” bond works is primarily due to Pu Pu’s personality. She’s naturally dependent on others. A tiny girl with asthma and no capabilities of her own has to rely disproportionately on other people in order to survive. (Ironically, her helplessness makes her the target of a lot of viewer scrutiny which suspects her to be the most manipulative character in the entire show...which I think is straying too far down Conspiracy Lane, but an interesting theory nonetheless.)

Most importantly, Pu Pu is lonely. While Zhu Chao Yang has his mother and father (even as terrible at parenting as they are), and while Yan Liang has Chen Guan Sheng; Pu Pu has no adult who looks after her. She constantly laments her lack of family. As the most vulnerable of the three kids, you cannot help but feel sympathy for her and wish that she had somebody to take care of her. Hence, when Zhang Dong Sheng pets her head, it’s very difficult to not wish that these two could get along via some miracle.

Even so, while Zhang Dong Sheng definitely begins projecting a “daughter” image onto Pu Pu, I don’t think it’s accurate to say that Pu Pu views him as a father figure. And I know this appears to be a contradiction to all the father-daughter stuff I mentioned, but I think we need to look at this relationship from both parties’ perspectives. Zhang Dong Sheng can see Pu Pu as a daughter because that kind of bond is something he’s wanted since he married Xu Jing. His emotional reliance on Pu Pu exceeds her dependence on him. On the other hand, Pu Pu remembers and misses her real family, so I don’t find it possible that she feels particularly “close” to Zhang Dong Sheng. Rather, she trusts him and sees him as someone who keeps his word. She’s willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that he isn’t a bad person. With more time, who knows how her view could evolve. Of course, more time will never come.

Pu Pu’s death is a result of the whole memory card debacle, a plot devised by Zhu Chao Yang. The kicker is, it would not have worked if Yan Liang told Pu Pu about the copy. That’s what’s so infuriating about Pu Pu’s death; it’s fundamentally caused by the same lack of respect and trust that create the issues of the adult world. If Pu Pu had known about that extra memory card, would she have let them keep it? No, because she would find it extremely unfair of them to deceive Zhang Dong Sheng after the guy fulfilled his end of the deal—and I suspect Yan Liang didn’t tell her because he knew she would not agree. His sense of “justice” is what prevented him from telling her. Ironically, that’s why Pu Pu dies. Until the very end, she does not understand why Zhang Dong Sheng is angry with her. Even now, I can hear her confusion when she asks him, “Didn’t we already give you the memory card?” Hmm...that’s the grave smell of tragedy in the air, alright.

Zhang Dong Sheng and Pu Pu may have had a chance at becoming “family”; but their relationship started with too much distrust to survive any tests. For Pu Pu, maybe it’s easy to learn to trust Zhang Dong Sheng because he has done a lot of good things for her. The other way around, though? As much as he starts viewing her as a daughter, he has spent more time watching the three kids work together. Under dire circumstances, the illusion of family disintegrates. It doesn’t make sense for him to consider that Pu Pu does not know about the two boys scheming with the video. So as soon as he finds out about that extra memory card, his blind trust in her vanishes.

We do not see Zhang Dong Sheng show remorse for Pu Pu’s death because the writers leave us with the “fairy tale” option to believe that she’s still alive. The final remnant of his humanity comes in the lie that he sent Pu Pu to the hospital, a lie that is intended to soothe our anxieties. But it’s just that—a lie. So does Zhang Dong Sheng feel guilty over not saving her?

There’s an interesting BTS scene in which Zhang Dong Sheng is shown in the McDonald’s by himself:

As he’s eating his meal, he’s crying—bawling, to be more accurate. On the table are the other dolls from the collection that Pu Pu was struggling to choose from when they came to this restaurant together. When she first got the pink one, Zhang Dong Sheng promised that they could come back so that she could get the rest. But in this scene, he is notably alone and heartbroken.

You might remember that in the show, there was a character who cried in a similar fashion: while having a meal and after somebody passed away. This character was Zhu Yong Pin, absolutely distraught after the death of his daughter. His daughter. These parallels are going to be the end of my sanity.

The McDonald’s scene above was to follow Pu Pu’s death, but it too obviously broke the facade of the fairy tale ending and was cut out (this is my conjecture). Still, I like to think that this scene happened canonically and we just didn’t see it. It wouldn’t be the first time that the omission of a scene has been a key part of the story.

This deleted scene adds heaps to the duality of Zhang Dong Sheng’s character. From the scene where the police say they found Pu Pu and then are shown sweeping the in-laws’ house for evidence, it’s safe to assume that Zhang Dong Sheng did not send Pu Pu to the hospital at all—rather, she died in that house and stayed there. Well, then, where’s her body? Where could she have been that Yan Liang, upon arrival at that house, could not find her? I don’t like to think about this.

Yet, in the deleted scene, Zhang Dong Sheng is clearly...remorseful? Perhaps he’s in grief? Maybe he genuinely did not want Pu Pu to die, but he was momentarily too afraid of what saving her would mean for him. Once he calms down and thinks about it, though, that decision of his to let her die causes him so much regret. He ends up going on that killing spree afterward, no longer caring about protecting the “normal” life of his that he used to value so much.

We also can’t disregard that Zhang Dong Sheng’s first instinct is to save Pu Pu. When her asthma attack begins, he accuses her of faking it. The moment he realizes what’s happening, though, he immediately abandons his search for the extra memory card to look for her inhaler. When she loses consciousness, he didn’t think twice before calling for an ambulance. His natural inclination is to help. But his cruel, learned response—to protect himself from this world that is constantly against him—is what wins. There’s some depth to this; that he maintains some innocent, almost childlike reaction to these situations. But other people have turned him into the terrible person that we see.

What I like about the deleted scene in particular (other than how utterly heartwrenching it is) is that it adds to the symbolism of the band-aid on Zhang Dong Sheng’s hand. If you look at the timeline of that band-aid’s life, it goes something like this:

Pu Pu applies the band-aid after Zhang Dong Sheng gets in a disagreement with the loan sharks. After this point, Zhang Dong Sheng’s personality takes drastic turns for the better.

The band-aid remains on Zhang Dong Sheng’s finger for the remainder of the episode. He ponders over it in his car, marveling at how someone has noticed his pain and gone to lengths to alleviate it. He begins to see hope in other people and in himself.

Zhang Dong Sheng finds out about the extra memory card. Pu Pu has her asthma attack. The scene when he rushes to her side is set so that he cradles her head with the hand that has the band-aid on. This is visible to us from an angle that puts the band-aid in plain view, its colors almost more prominent than Pu Pu’s face.

In the deleted McDonald’s scene, Zhang Dong Sheng still has the band-aid on his finger.

Officially, you see him next when he’s driving and having a curt chat with Zhu Chao Yang over the phone. We see his left hand on the steering wheel, where the band-aid is now glaringly missing:

From this, we can tell that sometime after having that emotional breakdown in that McDonald’s and shortly before going on his rampage, Zhang Dong Sheng removed the band-aid. The band-aid served both as a symbol of Pu Pu’s kindness and as the possibility that Zhang Dong Sheng could become a good person. As soon as the band-aid is gone, he is back to being a monster. Just picture a scene where he ponders over Pu Pu’s death as he stares at the band-aid, recalling the short period of time in which he got a tiny taste of fatherhood and received an inkling of a fortunate life. And he slowly peels off that final, clinging symbol of compassion with a stern and empty expression. I am. So sad.

The reason I’m enraptured by this relationship is because of how it makes you sympathize with Zhang Dong Sheng, but does not forbid you from condemning his actions at the same time. To say that he deserves what he gets may be true, but is a simultaneously a gross oversimplification of the circumstances. Zhang Dong Sheng is not your run-of-the-mill psychopathic villain who became a killer for fun or in the name of distorted justice. His victims are first and foremost those who perpetuate his sense of self-loathing—his in-laws and his wife. And honestly, they’re not the type of people you’d like to be around, either.

I’m not defending Zhang Dong Sheng. I don’t think that his in-laws and his wife’s actions warranted them being killed. But I also believe that their terrible behavior supports the underlying message of this show: treat people with respect. If everyone were as honest and sympathetic as Pu Pu, would Zhang Dong Sheng have spiraled the way he did? And would Zhu Chao Yang be going down as dark a path as he is by the end of the show? You can’t control how bad people will behave. But you certainly don’t have to be one of them and give others a motive to despise you. Hatred takes a circular motion, and to avoid that cycle is to be wise and fortunate.

Also, Pu Pu’s question is an interesting one: is a criminal, a criminal forever? At what point, at which line should we allow forgiveness? I’m sure the answer will vary between each one of us.

Anywho. I miss Pu Pu. And now the sight of a McDonald’s prompts my heart to drop. The fairy tale ending wasn’t even fairy tale enough for me...

a. S2E10: After Zhang Xin Zhe and Tai Yi’s 2nd performance, a rock arrangement of a song by Zhang Yu Sheng, Zhang Xin Zhe talks a little about his experience when he first debuted, along with other young artists at the time. This included Zhang Yu Sheng.

ZXZ: Of course, when we first debuted, we were all young. And there were many areas in the arrangements that the music company had for us which we were actually really unhappy about.

LKQ bursts out laughing, but really genuinely and loudly, making both ZS and CSL smile at him.

CSL, holding LKQ’s arm: Is that a laugh that says “I can relate”?

LKQ, agreeing: I can very much relate!

CSL: It was a very loud laugh...

ZXZ, noticing the laughter and pointing at LKQ: Right? Wasn’t it so? (LKQ nods, still laughing)

b. S2E10: Still commenting on Zhang Xin Zhe and Tai Yi’s 2nd performance:

LKQ: I think the most amazing thing about the stage of “Wo Men De Ge” is that...for example, I’d have very little opportunity to see this kind of performance from Zhe Ge. There’s a feeling like he’s stepping out of his comfort zone. Perhaps in your concerts, there’d be a little more of this, but other than those occasions, usually you’re the very elegant type. So today, looking at you gave me a huge surprise.

ZS: What left a deeper impression on me is that feeling of protection coming from teacher A Zhe. I thought, aiya, if I were the one singing with teacher A Zhe, I’d also feel a very large gush of strength coming from him, consistently supporting you to sing. For example, in the middle *looks at LKQ and MC* teacher A Zhe was rapping, right? In that moment, you’d think eh? Is this some kind of support for the part coming after? You’d constantly feel teacher A Zhe’s very strong arm behind you -- you feel like you can lean on it.

c. S2E10: Commenting on Rong Zu Er and Xilinnayi Gao’s second performance, which was a song in Cantonese:

LKQ (to XLNYG): It was really good. When you sang, I tried closing my eyes, and I could totally understand what you were singing. It was really good. Really very good.

ZS: Yes, I can testify. As soon as they finished singing, he said to me: “oh, her Cantonese was very good!”

d. S2E10 Extras: Backstage scenes, Qin Shen Shen reunion and rehearsals. Zhou Shen goes to find Li Keqin in his backstage room:

ZS, listening at the door and hearing LKQ rehearse their song in there: Oh. (to the camera) He’s practicing in there! *prepares to open the door but stops midway* A Cantonese speaker practicing a song in Cantonese -- how to interpret this? Is that a jab at me?

ZS finally opens the door, crosses the long hallway separating the outer door from the actual backstage room, and waits by the inner door without announcing himself. LKQ is still sitting at a table in there, singing. ZS waits for the right timing before singing along with him.

LKQ, noticing him and standing up: HEEEY!

ZS: *jumps into the room, hopping towards LKQ* LONG TIME NO SEEEEE!

LKQ: Long time no see, long time no see-

LKQ turns off the music on his phone and ZS goes for a hug.

LKQ, patting his back: Aiyoooo. *lets go and immediately backs away* Hey. Actually, don’t come too close to me. (ZS: Huh?) My throat kind of hurts today.

ZS: Oh, okay. *sprints all the way across the hallway and past the outer door, speaking from there* TEACHER KEQIN, HAVE YOU BEEN DOING OKAY?? (LKQ laughs)

LKQ: I’ve been okay. (ZS laughs and comes back to the table) I’ll be relying on you later on.

ZS: What’s that, relying on me?? We’re relying on you!

ZS tries to grab LKQ to make him sit back down, but LKQ dodges him:

ZS: It’s okay, sit, sit, sit (LKQ, pointing at his chair: No, you sit down there, I...) Sit! ....No worries! I’ll sit a little further away from you. (LKQ: I...Ok, let’s do it like that)

LKQ sits down, while ZS takes a seat a little distance away.

ZS: Aren’t you thinking too much about my well-being? *exagerratedly* I’m so touched!

LKQ: The sore throat problem comes as soon as I have to sing...

ZS: Isn’t it always like that? Has it happened to you before? I feel like for me, it’s always - often like that.

LKQ: Maybe this thing (as in singing on the show) is giving me too much pressure. *blinks exaggeratedly, as if troubled*

ZS: No way! What pressure??? (LKQ: *guffaws*) Jeez!! Teacher Keqin do you know about a term that’s recently being used a lot -- it’s called “Versailles”. That means...exactly what you said just now “Oh, I don’t know, I feel like coming to sing here gives me a lot of pressure”... That’s called “Versailles literature”. Because even though your singing is clearly at the top already, and really good, you’d still say to everyone “Singing makes me very stressed”. *pouts*

LKQ: After a year, do you still have to talk about those things? (T/N: Not clear what he’s referring to)

ZS, wide-eyed: ?? After a year, your Ma- your Mandarin....?? (LKQ laughs) It’s becoming worse and worse! What have you been doing?! *laughs* Teacher Keqin, lately you haven’t been speaking much in Mandarin, have you?

LKQ: No I haven’t! I’ve been in HK constantly. (Both laugh) Well, yeah! What opportunity did I have to come here? (i.e. public health restrictions)

ZS, face instantly falling: Mmm... (LKQ: That’s right....)

ZS, changing subject: Hey, teacher Keqin, have you been watching this season of “Wo Men De Ge”? (LKQ: I have) Ooh? Aren’t a lot of your good friends here? *smiles slyly*

LKQ: A lot of them! (ZS: Yeah.) I really like that newcomer.

ZS: Ohh, which one?

LKQ: Alan Tam *laughs*

ZS: ......I also really like that “newcomer”. *looks at camera* Can I say it like that? (to LKQ) You can say it like that, but can I?

LKQ just giggles.

ZS: Eh, is there anyone in the young singers this time that you’d like to collaborate with?

LKQ: They’re all very good, in my opinion.

ZS: Then go to them! *unimpressed look* Why only sing with me?

LKQ, looking up and scratching his neck: No, no. I think this--

ZS: You can’t make up for what you said anymore. Just go find them and sing a duet with them. (LKQ: No, no, no, no, no, no-) I’m not listening anymore. *stands up*

LKQ, with a sigh: Ehh!

ZS, heading out: I’m leaving. *waves* Bye bye.

LKQ tries to speak, but ZS makes it to the door.

ZS: Take care. *scoffs and shuts the door behind him* BYEEE.

LKQ follows him, mildly tired.

LKQ: A handful. (to the camera, while pointing at the closed door) What a handful. *opens the door to follow ZS* That little friend is such a handful.

As LKQ steps out, in the background, you can hear ZS say to someone “Waiting for teacher Keqin to come out”.

LKQ: Eh.

ZS, going to him: It’s okay now! *laughs*

Both hold each other by the shoulder as they head outside.

e. S2E10 Extras: Onstage rehearsals for Fu Shi Shan Xia.

Staff (to LKQ): Do you need the lyrics on the screen to be any bigger?

LKQ: It’s ok. I am not Alan Tam, I don’t need them to be too big.

ZS, who’s next to him: !!!!! *speaks to the audience* Teacher Tam, you saw this didn’t you? You saw it all...

LKQ (to ZS): The bigger the position (in the industry), the bigger the lyrics are on the screen.

ZS: Then mine should be *motions with his fingers to mean that it’s tiny, and LKQ imitates him, giggling*

The staff tries to arrange LKQ’s earphone monitor, but LKQ is not getting any feedback. Meanwhile, ZS just waits, leaning on and using LKQ’s shoulder as an armrest.

LKQ (to the staff): Ah, now the feedback’s gone again. It’s gone again on this side...

ZS (to LKQ): If you listen to it with your heart, you’ll hear it. (LKQ: What?)

LKQ: ...Does this have anything to do with you to start with?

ZS: Whoa! ... In a year, you’ve become fierce.

LKQ: Not so~..... (ZS: Really?) I’ve always been very fierce. *laughs*

LKQ examines the stage props onstage, which look like blocks of fake ice(?). ZS wanders close by.

ZS (to no one in particular): *sighs* Is there dry ice?.....Eh? Earlier on, there wasn’t even dry ice. One only smiles at the new. *laughs to himself* (T/N: Not sure about this last one, sorry but I guess he means ‘the nice treatment only goes to the new people huh’)

ZS, later (to LKQ): If we come again in the 3rd season, we’ll have to sing and dance. Because there’ll be no stage design, no dry ice, no dancers. (LKQ nods) There’ll be nothing. Maybe we’ll even have to play the music ourselves. Are you ready?

Back to field Season 5 episode 11.5

- Narrating a fight between Caideng and the goose inside the enclosure XD I do this too lol. When I see a bunch of geese at a supermarket parking lot I’m always like “ooooh shit’s gonna go down.”

- Ah yes, He Jiong and Yixing’s old photo. Yixing said that it was when he’d participated in Happy Camp at age 6, and his mom had asked him to ask He Jiong to take a photo.

- Lmao Yixing asking Pengpeng to help him re-enact how his mom used to be with him, and on top of Pengpeng the editors wrote 張加帥 which is apparently Yixing’s birth name. I kind of love how Jiashuai is kind of a meme thing now instead of a name that must not be spoken. I wonder when the name change happened and whether it was for any reason other than his parents just liking the name Zhang Yixing more. Not gonna lie, Jiashuai isn’t the greatest name though lol. Yixing is definitely a better name.

- Peng Liangzai and Zhang Jiashuai XD

- Then the parents were like what if we changed our names to He Gaoda and Huang Miaotiao? Gaoda means big and tall, and Miaotiao means slender.

I’m a bit confused by the rewards though If they win, they can take what they want from the store (but I thought they already had the store, so I wonder if it’s the items that were taken away). Plus, they get Director Xixi on their team lol. If they lose they have to return shares of the store.

- Yixing didn’t want to take the crew up on the challenge because they could lose the store lol. Playing it safe.

- Yixing agreed in the end, but I think he only said it because Pengpeng wanted to play so bad haha.

Eternal Love - Episode 4

Si Yin is really embarrassed by Li Jing’s love confession. She doesn’t have that kind of feelings for him and she rejects hi. He says he wants to live with her like it was in the Ziming palace. Si Yin doesn’t really know what to say, she seems agitated, and says that he could sleep in the guests room that night and she’ll send him back down the mountain the next morning. She apologizes for disappointing him. Right then, Diefeng rushes in: he knows he’s Li Jing and wants to fight him, but Si Yin step the between of them. Diefeng won’t let him go and fights Li Jing. Si Yin begs to let him go and even Lingyu begs too, saying he helped them while they were in the Ziming palace and without his help, Lingyu might even have commit suicide. Si Yin tells Li Jing to go and Diefeng sends Zi Lan after him. It’s so nice to see Liu Ruilin in another role when I just finished a drama with him. Zi Lan is so less self asserted than Chiwu, it makes such a difference! Well, he didn’t catch up on Li Jing. He flee towards a cave that has a big evil aura and which Mo Yuan forbid his students to go near.

Si Yin takes Xuannü on a walk. Then Li Jing’s mount comes to get him and asks him to save his master. They both leave Xuannü alone behind. He was attacked by a fire bird and Si Yin helps him fight it away. She’s about to slay it when an elder man tells her to have mercy. So he kept that phoenix there to eliminate it’s evil spirit, he didn’t think it would hurt them. So he’s going to take care of it. Then he gives to her another fan: Poyun fan.

Li Jing isn’t in the best of state and Si Yin takes care of him. She thanks him to have put himself between her and the phoenix. He says it was useless that he did. Si Yin tells him it’s normal that his cultivation would be oppressed in Kunlunxu when he’s from the Yi tribe. He feels worthless, but asks her a way to see her again. She gives him a piece of paper with markings on it (I can’t seem to remember the word and it’s like... so dumb) which will let him come and out freely of Kunlunxu. She tells him to be careful as her shixiong don’t know that she’s a girl and it has to remain that way.

Xuannü’s mom came to get her. She says she doesn’t want to go back and get married. Her mom says she’s only a second wife, she can’t be married like her big sister in a nice family in Qingqiu. She hides behind Diefeng who tells the mom why keep on forcing her on that marriage. She’s like, will you take responsibility for ruining my daughter’s wedding? Then Diefeng is like euhh... So Si Yin comes in to help. Siyin says he’s the second prince of the west sea and that he doesn’t have any engagement. So the mother is ohhh so you were opposing me because you are interested in Xuannü! Diefeng is like what no? But Si Yin and Lingyu stops him from talking and says he’s shy because they just developed feelings for her and if she rushes him that’s no good. Why not let Xuannü stay for a while to let their feeling grow? hahaha. When the mom leaves, Diefeng is really unhappy and tells Xuannü he isn’t interested by her.

Li Jing sends poems to Si Yin. She’s really upset when Xuannü starts reading them aloud.

There’s a little flashback. Xuannü used to always tell Bai Qian how envious she was of her face, that she wanted so bad to look like her. Tired of her complaining, Bai Qian says she’ll just give it to her, Zhe Yan knows a spell for that.

Actually, Si Yin is really happy about the poems. Until one morning Li Jing’s mount sends him a letter in which Li Jing says he’s tired of living, goodbye this cruel world! Si Yin rushes to him, he’s lying down, eyes closed. Si Yin is super worried. She tries to bring him back with her fan but it doesn’t work. The mount says his affection his of the heart, not the body. So she says that if he wakes up, she’ll agree dating him. He starts smiling. She’s really mad about it and he says you can’t take back your promise, if you do I am really going to die. She’s like, suit yourself, I am going to class now. He’s so cheesy. He’s complaining that in the two weeks he has stayed in Kunlunxu, he has only seen her this time and promises that for the rest of his life, he’ll only love her, if he goes against his word, he’ll never have kids and lead a lonely life.

Xuannü is really jealous of Si Yin. She asks him why is he avoiding her? Si Yin is super uncomfortable. She tries lying but it doesn’t work at all. So she says lately she has been busy going to see her friend. Xuannü asks if she can go too. Si Yin doesn’t really want to, well I wouldn’t want either to bring someone extra on my dates too... She’s such a manipulative woman. Si Yin ends up agreeing to take her with him. But when Li Jing sees her, urrrgh. I didn’t remember he was mesmerized from the first sight. This makes me so sad, I loved Li Jing ): He says that when Si Yin’s too busy to come and visit him, she should come so he’s not bored. She then tells him that in the next day she might be busy because Mo Yuan is going to come out of isolation. She asks him if he will go back to his concubines but he promises he’ll stay in Kunlunxu and only have her. Li Jing is jealous that Si Yin talks so much about Mo Yuan. He also blames her for bringing someone with her when she comes to see him, so he can’t talk freely with her. Then she hears some birds and she leaves Li Jing right away. He follows her and hears her conversation with Diefeng. She thought that Mo Yuan came out of isolation, but it was just Zi Lan. Diefeng praises him for his piety, but she says it’s not that, she just wants Mo Yuan to be out as soon as possible because it’s all because of her. Li Jing is heart broken and goes back to his grotto.

Xuannü wears Si Yin’s clothes to go and see Li Jing. At first, he thought she was Si Yin but he recognizes her fast enough. She tells him that it’s impossible for two people from the tian tribe and yi tribe to be together. Then he says that he knows, if she wasn’t form the tian tribe, he would have married her into Ziming palace. It’s nice because here Li Jing talks of Si Yin as a woman while Xuannü speaks of Si Yin as a man, she still hasn’t figured out that Si Yin is Bai Qian. Then she says that if Si Yin loves someone, it’s most likely Mo Yuan. Li Jing gets angry at hearing that. And then Xuannü takes Bai Qian’s appearance. Yang Mi here is doing such a good, imitating Xuannü’s facial expressions. Those characters are so different. It yikes me so much that people take Xuannü for Si Yin, they have nothing in common, except maybe that they are both petite.

Xuannü and Li Jing go together in the mortal realm. She says that if she was half important in his heart as Si Yin, she would feel contented. He feels really bad about that night they slept together. Oh no, actually he wanted to see Si Yin, but she was delayed so she sent Xuannü first to keep him company. As soon as Si Yin comes, he has no eyes for Xuannü, and she’s so pissed off. He asks Si Yin how long before he can leave his master and she says about 70 or 80 thousand years. He’s again jealous, saying that she just doesn’t want to leave Mo Yuan’s side. She gets a little concerned and wonders would told him something like that. Xuannü leaves, they are a little bit angry at each other. Uneasy moment. He takes out a little gift he made for her. It’s already a little better. Then she asks him if he ever went to Donghuan junji mount. She says next time they should go there together and he’s happier.

Qing Cang learns that Li Jing is gone and Li Yuan tells him he guesses he went to Kunlunxu to follow Si Yin. Qing Cang really isn’t happy about that. He says that if it is so, he’s not his son anymore.

Li Jing met with Xuannü again. Synopsis :

Xiang Qin and Zhi Shu switch to medical school to become nurse and doctor. During that time, Zhi Shu meets new rivals who wish to outdo him and Xiang Qin makes four new friends, and one of them likes her and wishes to replace Zhi Shu.
