Background:

As a follower of Zolena, Jove has the rare ability to manipulate luck. He lives with the Archmage Petrelli Wittenfeld, a powerful mage who rules over the city of Trenilo. To both the local and foreign nobility, he is the Archmage’s son who has only recently joined political affairs. However, to the citizens of the city, he is just another guard working in the market district. Jove is extremely energetic which often translates to impulsivity. He likes people and making friends, but he also is a thief, liar, and gambler.

As someone who also read Earth's Children, did you ever get the feeling that Zolena/The First was also manipulative towards Ayla? Like, from day one of her time at the Ninth Cave, Ayla is firm in saying she doesn't want to be in the zelandonia and just wants a family, but the First keeps pushing and eventually entices her with Ayla's curiosity. I always found that... idk, distasteful and wrong? It seems to be an unpopular opinion, though.

Thanks for asking, I'm doing as okay as I can be, I hope you're doing okay too!

Okay so, Selena is an interesting case since I am trying to revamp her to be a better character. So you get two of these, her old backstory and possibly the new one?

Originally, Selena was some sort of royalty or at least an aristocrat among her family of werewolves. She was meant to be the person who inherited the family's status and wealth, thus a target amongst her own relatives. She met Zoe in the Victorian era, one night after one of her family's balls where she tries to escape. Tired of her family's status and how it literally was putting her in danger. I like to imagine their dynamic being unwilling partners (perhaps werewolves have a distain for hedgewitches and thus a slight sort of rivalry), maybe with Selena giving Zoe some money in exchange for help to travel somewhere far far away but ends up with them being friends and fast lovers.

In the newer origin, Selena is a cupid, sent down, disguised as a mortal to help them with their love lives. She meets Zoe, perhaps in the same era and was determined to help her find someone, maybe they became sort of acquaintances and then when Selena was outed or Zoe finds out who she is, it becomes sort of a rivalry given... I don't think Zoe would very much like the idea of a cupid trying to control her love life and it becomes a source of tension for them.

But yeah, I'm not entirely sure which to go with for Selena. I've wanted to finalize things for her for so long but uni came and kicked me down so it might be a while.
