Makoto: Today I learned that NASA has been launching jellyfish into space since the 90′s. Originally 2,478 were sent up and there were 60,000 orbiting Earth by the mission’s end 20 years later. The jellyfish that have returned reportedly “hate life on Earth.”

Morgana: Do you want to birth an Eldridge horror? This is how you birth an Eldridge horror.

Ann: I want to know how they decided that they hate life on Earth.

Ren: I mean, who doesn’t?

Makoto: The “jellyfish that have returned” are the offspring of the ones they sent up; they “hate life on Earth” because they were born into a world without gravity- no direction, different kinds of pressure, so when they return they have trouble adapting and “jellyfish babies, at least, have to deal with massive vertigo on Earth after spending their first few days in space,” which you can tell because you can measure how disoriented a jellyfish is compared with normal behavior. TL;DR your cthulu is an infant with a migraine.

Haru: I have SO MANY questions, re:the jellyfish space habitat. I mean I guess it’s probably just an airtight aquarium on board the ISS, but I read it the first several times as the jellyfish were just floating in open space.

Ryuji: To be honest, when I read “NASA has been launching jellyfish into space for years” my initial mental image was just NASA with a giant slingshot flinging jellyfish after jellyfish into the void.

New #review The Blood-born Dragon by @jcrycroft #TheBloodbornDragon grabs you by the throat right from the start and takes you on a wild ride straight through to the end. My emotions were all over the place! But I can't wait for the next book to see where the story takes us. This is such an interesting new universe and concept. I thoroughly enjoyed the book, despite my tumultuous feelings. While there is some sex, it's well-written and adds to the story. It's mostly fantasy, though, and adventure aplenty! **POSSIBLE SPOILERS BELOW** I loved watching the bond between Des and Squid grow as they travelled and Squid matured some. After reading the little prequel, I had hoped that Des would have some better luck in love, but it wasn't to be, unfortunately. And now, I want to strangle Liv even more than I did after the prequel! I imagine the second book is going to be just as dramatic as this one and I'm eager to see what happens after the cliffhanger of an ending! P.S. New #review #AHiredBlade by J.C. Rycroft Oofdah, this was not what I expected. This little book is full of big adventure and some spicy lesbian love scenes, but I did not see the ending coming. And I'm not happy about it at all, lol. New #review #AsFireRainsDown by Toni Griffin Whew, it took me a bit to get the kindling going on this book, but once the flame caught, I raged through the rest of the book like the wildfires it's written around. 😉 I actually give it 4.5 ⭐. It's definitely a fast burn, but I loved watching Luke start to heal and let himself love Ollie, the sexy, semi-amnesiac, Yurok demigod. Their relationship with Wren was an interesting dance to watch as well. New #review #SoYouWantToTalkAboutRace by @ijeomaoluo This book is a great primer for delving into conversations about race with anyone. It's not the first book I've read like this, but it is one of the better ones. Not only does Ms Oluo provide information explaining the issues, but she also provides many opportunities to put your new-found knowledge into practice. This ranges from things you can say and do, and things you shouldn't, to a handy discussion guide for your book clubs at the end.  The chapters are laid out thoughtfully and cover a lot of info without being too dry or preachy. Many of her personal anecdotes broke my heart and/or made me enraged. New #review #FreedomDreams: The #BlackRadicalImagination (20th anniversary edition) by @rdgkelley I think this has to be one of the weightiest activism books I've read so far. I suggest getting the 20th anniversary edition simply because of all the additions that provide even greater context.  It took me longer to get through it because the history provided is so rich and dense. I had to go back and re-read/listen to several parts simply because I found myself getting lost in the history. There is a lot of inspiration to be found in these pages, but I'm actually at a loss of how to even begin to describe this book. I'm still reeling from it.  I will have to reread it several more times to take in all of the lessons on "the power of imagination to transform society" and all the inspirational freedom dreams discussed in its pages.  Because if you can't imagine the kind of future you want, you can't even begin to build on it.
